Valero employees directed police to the motel next door where the “suspects” were believed to be staying. Officers following that tip spoke with motel employees who directed officers to the room where this sister and friends were gathered. It was the wrong room! Here in North Texas, as is the case throughout the country, the black community is on edge concerning policing. The learning curve for trigger happy cops making fatal mistakes relying on faulty information is fresh on our minds. It’s a daily threat. We have in mind #BreonnaTaylor. We are thinking about #MargaritaBrooks. She was shot to death last year because of a “mistake” of an @arlingtonpolice police officer. Her 4 orphaned children are the victims of their “learning curve”. #BothamJean was killed in his own apartment because of a “mistake.” #AtatianaJefferson was murdered in front of her nephew while playing video games because of mistakes based on faulty evidence. In each case officers failed to follow the law. The 4th Amendment doesn’t allow the invasion into a place of residence wielding deadly force absent (1) exigent circumstances/hot pursuit or (2) a warrant. These officers had neither therefore they were breaking the law. We are lucky they didn’t kill anyone but this is serious. I hope the new @arlingtonpolice Cheif Al Jones gets this right.
