Overheard in an IHOP:
A young girl, about 6 or 7, and her father were having breakfast. He had been speaking with a nearby lady who was there with her daughter also having breakfast.
I’m not sure how the conversation came up but they began talking about the first little girl’s earrings, or lack thereof. The father explained that she had had earrings once upon a time, but her ears became infected, or something like that.
Then he said how they would be replacing her earrings soon, which I guess only meant that they would have to re-pierce her ears.
At the very moment he said that, his daughter pipes up and says NO very forcefully. She kept repeating it over and over again.

NO
NO!!!
NOOOOOO!!!!
She’s getting louder and louder because, I suppose, he’s paying her no mind whatsoever.
And all I kept thinking is…this is where it starts. Here is where we learn the lesson about not having autonomy over our body parts.
Pierced ears is not a life or death situation. That little girl probably experienced a good amount of pain and discomfort. So she already knows that she does not want to go through that again.
She stated how she felt.
And her feelings were not acknowledged nor considered.
She was simply asked to be quiet.
