Nem vagyok róla meggyőződve, hogy sok értelme van erről a megjelenésről beszámolni. Mondom ezt úgy, hogy a trágár és enyhén szólva sikamlós (valójában inkább pornográf) szövegek ellenére az első két lemezt kimondottan szerettem, a harmadikkal pedig jól elvoltam (istenkáromló borító ide vagy oda). Azután elkezdték az amúgy sem magas lécet egyre lejjebb és lejjebb állítani (lásd a 2017-es lemez prófétai címét!). A legutóbbi, 2019-ben megjelent „Heavy Metal Rules” nálam már az értékelhetetlen kategóriába csúszott; egyetlen dalának sem sikerült megszólítania bennem sem a rajongót, sem – általában véve – a zeneszerető rockert.

Némileg azért reménykedtem, hiszen a csapat legvisszataszítóbb fizimiskájú, imidzsű muzsikusa, Travis „Lexxi Foxx” Haley basszugitáros lelépett, akinek helyére először ideiglenesen, majd némi kínlódás után véglegesen a banda turnémenedzsere, Joe „Spyder” Lester lépett. Naivan azt gondoltam, ez majd ürügyet szolgáltat a régen esedékes fazonigazításra, hiszen a fémpárducok már egy ideje jól láthatóan elindultak az ellaposodás, eljelentéktelenedés útján. Nagyot tévedtem, sőt kiderült, hogy Lexxi Fox volt az egész brigádban talán a legnormálisabb arc, aki a gusztustalan, gyomorforgató ökörködés helyett évek óta a békés családalapítást, gyermekvállalást szerette volna előnyben részesíteni. Micsoda csapást mért ezzel a szívós munkával fölépített aljadék arculatra!

Az „On The Prowl” a 13 szám ellenére gyakorlatilag ráférne egy bakelit lemezre (kb. 47 perc hosszú). Némileg meglepetés az itt-ott haloványan kontúrozott punk rockos beütés amúgy korai Mötley Crüe módra (Never Too Late, One Pump Chump), de az Aerosmith ’70-es évekbeli munkásságát idéző dalok is újdonságnak számítanak (Put My Money, Is My Dick Enough). Érezhetően keresték a kitörési pontokat, de szerintem nem jártak sikerrel.

Továbbra is állítom, hogy Ralph „Michael Starr” Saenz nagyszerű énekes, Russ „Satchel” Parrish pedig nemcsak technikás gitáros, de szólói szinte kivétel nélkül élményszámba mennek. A faszinak a teljes eszköz-, dallam- és stíluskészlet a kisujjában van. Ez azonban még kevés; a dalok tényleg egyre jellegtelenebbek, a dallamok pedig egyre kevésbé fogósak. Mindössze három nótát szeretek az albumról (ebben a tekintetben már jobb az előzőnél!): a „Friends With Benefits” hatalmas, hol White Lion-ízű, hol annál karcosabb rockhimnusz bámulatos szólókkal, a klipes „1987” hangulatos, nosztalgikus tisztelgés a ’80-as évek legnagyobb bandái előtt (mint egykor a P. Mobil „Az óra körbejárt” című dala az eggyel korábbi évtized legendái előtt), a „Pornstar” pedig – ha valaki el tud vonatkoztatni a csacsi szövegtől – meglehetősen dögös kis rock ballada. De ennyi. Ki is fújt.

Eddig a „szerkesztőségünkben” is egyre tapinthatóbb ellenszenv, illetve értetlenség ellenére védelmeztem őket, de végül a zenészek maguk minden eszközt, minden érvet kicsavartak a kezemből, és csak állok a Steel Panther föliratú kipukkant lufi színes, nyáltól csöpögő cafatai előtt szomorúan.
