I really like the concept of "what if the Asl brothers swap parents?" so here is my 2 cents to it:

Ace:

He swaps with Luffy. Obviously that would change his character quite a bit bc his daddy issues regarding Roger are an integral part of his character & how he views the world and himself. He'd still have some issues but well, if you are forced to grow up in a forest full of monsters and mountain badits bc your dad decides to fight the government and dump you with your clinically insane grandpa you'd probably have some too.

Ace has heard a lot of things about the Revolutionaries. The government and nobles would describe them as vicious devils. Some common folk would describe them as delusional.( One small group can't change how the world ticks no matter how hard they try.) Others would describe them as saviours and beacons of hope.

Given his personal experience with corrupt nobles (Gray Terminal fire), Ace understands why Dragon would want to take down the World Government as it stands.So he wouldn't really dwell too much on it and focus on his own ambitions.(Become a famous Pirate). If his father wants to be a Revolutionary then so be it.

(Also he'd definitely remind Garp about it with a smug face whenever the old man brings up joining the Marines.,which never fails to earn him a "fist of love")

Another core difference would be that he probably doesn't try and challenge Whitebeard.

I'm not sure if I remember this one properly but Ace's main reason for going after Whitebeard was that Whitebeard was Roger's Rival and Ace wanted to prove himself as quickly as possible. So if it hadn't been for that I think Ace would have sticked more to exploring the New World, improving his skills and spreading his name. He'd be a lot more laid back and sure he carries a big secret with him but it doesn't fell nearly as much of a burden as it did with Roger.

Naturally Marineford never occurs which would change things up quite a bit.

Sabo:

Sabo swaps with Ace. Sabo is a lot more level headed than Ace and would probably take the fact that Roger is his father a lot better than little Ace. That being said he would still carry certain worries and fears with him for life. What if people find out out about his secret? Would they hate him? Would they leave him?The Marines could show up and execute him any minute now.

I'm not sure whether Ace and Sabo would grow up together since infancy or whether Garp dropped Ace of at Dadans when he was older but either way the two of them would quickly grow fond of each other. Like in canon they only have each other and in a way they can bond over their secret.

Sabo doesn't hate Roger the same way Ace does. Sure he was supposed to be this terrible Pirate but one day he plans to set sail and become a Pirate himself. People would speak and think ill of him anyways he thinks.

I don't want to put him in Ace's position and make him a Whitebeard Pirate bc I doubt Sabo would be as bold as to attack an Emperor unprovoked.

Sabo still sets sail with the goal to be free and explore the world and write a book about it like in canon.

Him and Ace would probably be "rival" pirate captains. Everyone assumes there is some sort of history between them and that they are enemies but in reality it's just two brothers having a pissing contest over who can sink more Marine ships.

Luffy:

Luffy swaps with Sabo. While Ace and Sabo somehow find themselves in a little more favorable position in this Au, Luffy would find himself in a much worse position.

Being forced to wear clothes he doesn't like,restricted meals,being forced to study boring stuff,Luffy would absolutely hate all of this. His parents neglect him and abuse him verbally and emotionally on a daily level so naturally Luffy runs away like Sabo did.

Luffy is loud, eats a lot ,runs around and he loves to explore so the live of a noble would absolutely kill him on the inside.

He goes to the Gray Terminal and meets Ace and Sabo. He follows them around like in canon and when the Porchemy incident happens they finally take him in.

I'm not sure how he gets his df but since Zoan DFs are said to have a will of their own I think the fruit would have found it's way to Luffy with or without Shanks.

The part about Luffy being taken away from his brothers would definitely be different. Luffy is not Sabo. When Sabo got taken Ace trusted that Sabo can take care of himself and that he'll find his way back to them eventually.

But Luffy isn't Sabo.Luffy is their little crybaby brother who still can't protect himself. Who would give up his own live for something as trivial as keeping quite about their stolen treasure stash.

They know Luffy will suffer in High Town. Luffy knows too but he'd gladly trade his freedom for his brother's lives and they hate this.

Luffy would have a tougher time trying to escape then Sabo bc he is younger and clumsier.

Meanwhile Sabo and Ace would desperately try and make plans to free their little brother.

Maybe Dragon's ass actually helps during the fire or they end up forcing themselves to ask Garp but I can't see them leaving Luffy to his fate.

Luffy's pirate journey wouldn't change much though i guess his wanted poster having just "Luffy" means that some people don't view Luffy in the same light.

New York:

-He likes to paint and read. His favorite things to paint are sunsets/sunrises, architecture (CA's Golden Gate, FL's Disney World, his own buildings, etc), and plants. His favorite types of books to read are psychological thriller, fantasy, and coming of age classics (occasionally romance as well, though he'd never admit it)

-He and California have little arguments where they talk about how similar they are to each other. "I have the Brooklyn Bridge!" "Well I have the Golden Gate!" "I have the New York Times, you copycat!" "No you're the copycat, I have the Los Angeles Times!" They're not really arguments though since these conversations usually end in laughter.

-Speaking of the NYT, he likes to journal. Whenever he can't resort to violence to let out emotions, he writes his feelings out on the nearest piece of paper he can find. Sometimes he burns them, other times he keeps them in a special drawer to read for later. He also likes to write little moments that occur in his life that he finds interesting; like eating good food, making a snowman, discovering a new song he knows he'll hyperfixate on for months, etc. He also likes to write books, though most of the time they're just little picture books you could read to kids because that's all he has time for

-I've mentioned this before, but New York plays board games with California. He wins against Cal in Monopoly but loses against him in Uno. New York also plays games (board games and party games) against his northeastern besties and he's very competitive when doing so.

-He's a fashion icon. The other states ask him for fashion advice and he delivers since fashion is a passion for him 💅 He's been told he could be a model, but he never actively pursued a modeling career bc of his statehouse responsibilities

-I feel like he'd be a huge fan of Taylor Swift, especially 1989 TV. Evermore's another one of her albums that he vibes with since a song called coney island's on it and bc it's a calming album for him :)

-He's friendly to Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine. All three states are kind and don't annoy him, and New York appreciates that. They also all play in the snow at times. He also has a soft spot for Indiana, Wyoming, and Alaska.

-This one's a popular one, but my baby over here has insomnia. The only way he can get a true night's rest is if somebody's there to cuddle him ane calm his mind down, like *coughs* California. This fic by @alaskashigh is a great example of this if you want to read one :)

-Him and Illinois get along well. They buy each other coats for the winter and argue a lot about pizza and sports teams. Through this, New York managed to get along with Indiana and Minnesota, and now all three of them like to grocery shop together lol

-When that whole fiasco of the skies turning orange occured in the Northeast, the first person New York turned to was California, and rightfully so. California helped patch New York up and gave him advice on how to deal with stuff like that. New York told the rest of the NE what Cal told him so that they also know what to do.

-He shows he cares through gifts and actions. He doesn't say "I love you" very often, but he'd hurt anyone who hurts his loved ones, give you his coat when you're cold, make you some food, or plants specific flowers when he finds out what flowers you like. New Jersey usually helps New York with the planting part, and that's one of the rare times those 2 get along.

Louisiana:

-Louisiana hangs out in the woods with Florida and Texas just to get away from the Statehouse and to gossip.

-One of his favorite songs ever is House of the Rising Sun, and he never misses an opportunity to sing it. You can hear him sing it while he cooks, cleans, or when he does really anything. The states aren't annoyed about it though because his voice is captivating.

-He's a very comforting person. The states go to him whenever they need somebody to talk to because Loui can do it all: he can listen, cook, and make jokes.. whatever you need to feel better.

-He enjoys learning about old folk tales, urban legends, and superstitions in the US and around the world. The states often catch him watching paranormal true crime documentaries with a grin on his face, and the only state that's not unsettled by this is Florida.

-Speaking of Florida, he and Florida go on dates by doing the most dangerous stuff. Skydiving without parachutes, doing hit and runs, armed robbery in important government buildings just to make Gov mad, whatever crazy things these goons can think of. But on other times where they're feeling relaxed, their dates are just them cuddling or eating. They enjoy both bc they have each other :)

-(TW: suicide, death) If he was a normal person, he'd be dead a long time ago. He's been stabbed, shot at, beat up, hanged, basically killed, but since he's a personification he just sustained the injuries and went on about his day. When he found out he was a personification, he killed himself just to see what'd happen. Would he clearly see the paranormal stuff he likes so much? Would he see an afterlife? Imagine his surprise when nothing happened to him.

-He can read, but he just doesn't want to. He just likes to read his Mama's recipes and children's books. When New York makes a new children's book, Loui usually asks him if he can read it, and New York lets him.

-He was a nice kid in high school. Respectful to his Mama, probably indulged in some sports, escaped to the woods once in a while, and had a decent group of friends that were just as wild as him. He's the type of guy to not make any enemies, and he was one of those rare ones who were good looking in high school (I wish that were me lmao)

-He and Texas are buddies and cook together a lot. When Louisiana needs help with anything, especially natural disasters, Texas is the first one to make sure he's okay and vice versa. When Florida's off doing... something that definitely is a threat to his life and/or someone else's (aka being himself), Loui and Texas go to parties together. Loui gets drunk and usually almost blacks out whereas Texas only takes a couple drinks to make sure he and Loui get back home safe. They got each other's backs, basically.

-He and South Dakota get along most of the time, and the only time they don't is when SD talks about Pierre and pronounces it "peer". Loui doesn't take it too seriously, but they like to jokingly argue about it.

-He has a big heart and it's obvious. He likes to show love through his words and his actions. Like New York, he wouldn't hesitate to throw a punch to someone who has hurt you, but he also would stop whatever he's doing to make sure you feel loved and taken care of. He's almost burned the statehouse down once because he was comforting his buddy Arkansas, but California was around to stop this potential fire. He also likes to say he cares about you, you can occasionally hear him say je t'aime mon amour/mon ami(e) & tu es magnifique. (I love you, my love/my friend & you are beautiful).

lmao guess whos activated ✨blathering oaf mode✨ again (clue: its me)

(cut because length and spoilers, read at your own peril)

so this post got me spiralling into detective mode again and yes i know douglas suggesting it might have been war/pollution but i have certified trust issues™ and i dont believe that for one darn second

BUT

i also don't think it's a kiss. lemme explain horrifically

so i took another look at the two frames we have of The Leaked Smooch™ and the background has a lot to be desired (if you take into account that the boys are taking up most of the frame (duh), plus already fairly average quality video PLUS compression from when i captured it)

but i think we can safely rule out that The Leaked Smooch™ doesn't happen in the theatre here, mainly because even though the quality is bad, the glasses in the Smooch™ are crowley's modern ones, not the ones we saw him wear in the 1941 flashback in s1, plus his hair is differently styled... so yes can pretty confidently say this is not the kiss we are looking for

so i wanted to pinpoint what era the theatre bit is actually set in, and therefore i set about identifying the theatre in question. turns out kids that im not a good researcher (despite it literally being my job) so it took FUCKING AGES but i eventually found set photos of the boys entering a theatre, specifically the hippodrome in bo'ness:

now this was a turn-up for the books, because that's crowley's 1941 costume right??? id recognise that iconic fit anywhere. az's costume is trickier to pinpoint bc he wears the same damn thing but pretty sure this is a match to the church scene:

so we know from s1 that we have the church scene yada yada, and crowley offers aziraphale a lift home... which we know he accepts given that the s2 trailer gives us the ✨Dinner of '41✨ scene:

the other bit however to this puzzle is that there ALSO a set pic of aziraphale at the hippodrome in his magician's outfit. given the frame from the trailer where he looks like he's about to brick it going on stage, surrounded by lovely burlesque girlies and dame siân phillips in period dress, AND there were extras on the set dressed in ww2-type army uniforms, so i think it can be fairly surmised that this bit also occurs in the 40s

so my thought process is that we're getting two separate scenes (kinda) from the 40s, we have the church bit from s1 plus the Dinner of '41 scene as its own entity, but then, like

aziraphale is doing his magic act as a side hustle to this burlesque show? and crowley turns up to watch him, hiding out up in the box?

if we follow this completely made up narrative ive just come up with, aziraphale, im assuming, finishes up and gets changed into his normal clothes, and then goes up to this box to meet crowley?

to this end, i captured and slowed down the bit in the opening sequence where aziraphale and crowley (sorry douglas, not buying it) are in the box... and-

now to my eye, the motion of them in the clip looks like they are dancing? i don't have the source to hand but we've had it confirmed that a choreographer was brought into s2, not impossible az would go up to meet crowley after his magic act, whilst there's still something going on on the stage, and the two end up dancing or something? and az bless his heart gets spooked from that?

im reasonably convinced that this might be the origin of the 'you go too fast for me' line - something happens and ultimately aziraphale gets spooked given that he's only just realised he has Feelings for crowley, and so my boy fucking legs it (a lil post i made a while ago about this exact scenario if you'd care to peruse)

other thing to note:

there is a figure that is lurking behind aziraphale and crowley in the box, which looks like it moves specifically in sync with crowley, so it could be a shadow, or someone/thing is in the box that they aren't aware of 👀 so maybe this thing (?) witnesses it all? whatever went down in the box?

so in my addled feral mind, ive come up with a speculation that even as im breathing life into it sounds unhinged and so implausible it's hilarious -

i put to you, members of the jury, that something was meant to happen in that box, and it didn't... that something being that crowley makes a move of some kind - kiss, dance, hug, declaration, WHATEVER - and aziraphale was meant to accept it/reciprocate/idk, but didn't.

and that fucks with the plan, and for lack of better terminology creates a nexus event (lmao thanks loki) which in turns starts screwing with other events, somewhat like i theorised in this post here tehe

are aziraphale and crowley, essentially, the earth's endgame? idk about u but ive read enough angst fics to know that it's not inconceivable that crowley and aziraphale's mere existence may have been part of god's plan to represent free will on earth, defend humankind, and give balance and meaning to it

so what would happen if aziraphale essentially rejected that? did the most human thing possible and resisted the plan? idk i feel at this point i am just writing a fic and this will all be ludicrously incorrect bUT half the fun is torturing yourself over your own theories right 🙃

Do you think were going to see a Dreadwolf reveal trailer at Dragon Age Day or at the Game Awards?

hello!

I'm not sure, and I'm also hopeful/excited (so.. a regular felassan state of affairs hh..). if it's in a place where they feel ready to show it to the world more then that'd be neat, it'd be cool to see what's being worked on. and ofc anything said here is only speculation.

it's been at TGA before (2018 trailer, 2020 trailer), the last time being 3 years ago in 2020. if the 2024 internal currently-aimed release window mentioned in error on a dev profile recently is indeed still current (I'd guess that the change to "TBD" won't have been because the aim changed since the dev put that there btw, it'll have been because there isn't supposed to be any public info about the currently aimed release window yet but the games press noticed it on the profile, prompting BW/EA to ask the dev to change it. separate note: this being the case doesn't mean that there's no possibility that the window will slip more though), appearing at TGA 2023 wouldn't be a shock. maybe it depends on whether the possible 2024 release window is in early (but still after April 1st 2024 because of the fiscal quarter & FY24 slate stuff) 2024 or late 2024? as if it's later in 2024 (like say November) I could see a world where it isn't at TGA23 but is somewhere in the summer video game event/news expo period instead, because of the recent trend that's been observable in the industry generally and commented on by a former bioware dev re: an industry move towards shorter marketing periods (like more in the realm of a few months-6 months than a year). it's been said that the policy for this for a lot of AAA games has become a lot shorter, tending towards a lot shorter and louder marketing campaigns.

jeff grubb recently said on DA:D, "The Game Awards 2023 sounds right to me, they’ve done stuff at The Game Awards before. I’m expecting them to be there. If they’re not, it better be soon after, because Dragon Age: Dreadwolf, was, you know, there was a chance Dragon Age: Dreadwolf could’ve came out this year. Obviously it did keep moving internally, as I’ve reported before. It’s now, they’re looking at, you know, by the mid of next year, something like that.” and "The reality is, we very well could get Dragon Age: Dreadwolf content at The Game Awards. They’ve had teasers there before, it would make all the sense in the world for something to show up there." [link] this is interesting bc i'm pretty sure I remember a tweet from him last year about TGA22 where he straight up said "no it won't be there" or something basically when he was asked about it.

what I would say is that if it's gonna happen in a substantial way (as in not a codex entry and a blog post) in early December 2023, it'd likely be at TGA, not on DADay. this is based on how it was done previously and also on what's been said about DADay (an unofficial fan holiday event that just happens to occur very close to when TGA is held, thereby being overshadowed by it in terms of scale) vs TGA (a massive industry-wide high publicity event). DADay has seemed to have been more of a community-focused thing, a place to announce something smaller in scale like a tv show or a new book or to have something smaller highlighted like short stories or a codex. it's more of a 'today we are announcing we will be at TGA' with a new trailer-type [hypothetically] context rather than a 'here is a new trailer that isnt an ingame cinematic' type context, if that makes sense. saying that if it isnt going to be a 'big' trailer at TGA23, maybe there's something at DAday like last year where they showed an ingame sequence, which is smaller than a 'big substantial trailer' but still a video.

(idk if this post/ramble made sense but there you go). guess we'll find out in < 3 weeks. (❁´◡`❁)

The leg has always been their worry. . .the broken hip, busted knee, possible broken femur from his leg getting crushed in the car. Femurs are hard things to break. Their also the most at risk when they break due to potential issues that can occur with to all the major blood vessels and muscle networks and nerves and such. The leg had always been their worry, always been the main goal to save cause god forbid Lupin loose it and really have his life screwed up. . .Jigen can deal with rehabilitation, but he cannot deal with the outcome that may occur if Lupin looses the leg

Doctors are worried when infection sets in, but so much shit is wrong with the guy that it’s not surprising. . .what IS surprising is when the infection gets worse and suddenly Jigen is in a room surrounded by a bunch of people in white suits all discussing the idea of the most dreaded word Jigen has ever heard in his life and as they try to convince him that maybe it would be more beneficial for the leg to go

Infection isn't something to mess around with. For his leg to be so badly mutilated to the point of his blood essentially poisoning him, a discussion of possibly amputating the limb must be had. Jigen probably would fight as much as possible against the idea, imploring and even begging them to try every other possible route because he knows just how much Lupin needs both of his legs

like lupin is good at robotics

he could make a new leg

could deck it out and make it work as good as he can

but it's still the idea

not to mention the phantom pain would be nearly unbearable at times

Bit of a gut punch given the choice to attempt to continue treatment for his leg or to simply amputate it altogether, But Lupin asked for Jigen to help him make the decision.

But once again, Jigen finds himself freezing.

He has no idea what to say,

So he tells Lupin that he has to think about it for a little while. Which he has time to do, but he's still on the metaphorical clock, so to speak

But he doesn't "think"

At least not right away

Instead he just dips to cope and put it at the back of his mind for a while by hopefully spending some "time" with fujiko

Of fucking course he quickly learns that that isn’t going to work and he just has to say it to her

Him randomly just walking into Fujiko’s hotel room after dealing with this whole debacle for a few hours and originally he came here for a little “stress relief” but obviously Fujiko notices something is up by how he’s sitting on the end of the bed with his fingers steepled against his mouth and how cold and stone like he looks in his eyes.

Looks that she’d know by now mean that he was internally debating with himself and not liking the outcome of the argument

She asks him what’s up and oh imagine how bluntly he says the next words to her

“They wanna take his leg”

fujiko's heart dropping when she hears it, part of her hopes she misheard him but she knows what he said all she can think to respond with is a soft and fearful "what?"

Jigen chuckling as if in disbelief

“haha. . .yeah not the best news I’ve gotten all week”

Fujiko stopping everything and being like "ok we need to get everyone together and talk about this" bc it's literally pt 2 of that whole 'what would we do if Lupin couldn't thieve anymore' discussion

Jigen just taking a deep breath and nodding when Fuji says they need to talk about this. That all of them need to talk

No amount of "stress relief" would be able to fix this It's too somber, too severe

So they get dressed or whatever they have to do to get themselves situated and start making some calls

Fuji calling up Goe, jigen calling Zeni

Time passes and they all convene in Fuji's hotel room

Zeni probably shows up last, but they tell Goe and Zeni the news at the same time

They feel horrible having this sort of discussion without Lupin here with them-- but at the same time, it's one that they couldn't have if he were here, either.

so HERE are the Oppositions

Jigen and Zenigata: Amputation

Jigen's undecided ofc, that's kinda the whole point

And it doesn't matter if it's majority, they'd all decide pretty early on that the decision needs to be unanimous

Zeni would say amputate. Not because it'd mean Lupin can't be a thief anymore (or that it'd be a while until he figures out how to thieve again), that's the last thing he wants, but because it's the safest option. The best guarantee of recovery and the greatest avoidance of the unthinkable.

Considering how jigen might be frantic to fix it and for things to finally calm back down, he'd probably be leaning towards amputation for the same sort of reasons as Zeni. But the idea of Lupin losing a leg is absolutely terrifying to him, not to mention Lupin counting on him to decide whether to make the call or not.

Fujiko: No Amputation

Fujiko could reason that Lupin doesn’t do well with change and would be on the side of Non-Amputation. Not in the regular sense of people not doing well with change but in the sense that he has so very few constants in his life and he leans on those so heavily even if it’s not noticeable to outsiders. He has those few constants and without those tethers he loses himself. And right now things are already changing so much she doesn’t want him to have to lose anything else.

Fujiko won’t admit it, but Jigen knows how much she cares for Lupin, he’s come to accept the notion, especially in the weeks that have followed since this shit started.

Much like him, she has not handled the stress very well. The reason why Fujiko tends to stay is suave hotels attached to casinos

lots of big headed blue-bloods making it big, lots to swoon over her and lots of idiots she can steal from.

Because Lupin was everything to them. Without him they're drowning in how much they miss him and coping in ways they know

But Jigen is smart because also knows deep down that anyone riding the wave will eventually have to get off or fall

Fujiko just seems to end up falling more often now. Much like Lupin and Jigen, her tethers are snapping and if it makes her feel miserable

god what is it gonna do to Lupin

Goemon: No Amputation

Goemon's a bit tricky, but I'd say he'd be the most against it. He's very into self-improvement (shit way to put it but idk how else to) and would wholeheartedly believe that Lupin would be able to power through whatever sort of recovery might be necessary, no matter how much time it might take and no matter the risk to his health (bc lets be honest, Goemon tends to do the same thing to himself).

Honestly I just really like the idea of Goemon getting the chance to go off for once ;;;

Like, he can't fking believe that zeni and jigen are even considering amputation, it's completely unfathomable to him and he just digs into them for it

They've all been injured severely at some point and this has never been offered up as an option before, he doesn't understand how this scenario would be different from any of those other time

but imagine Jigen digs into the fact that Goemon hasn’t even been up to see Lupin since this happened and questioning him as to why everyone else has been up to see him besides Goemon

………goemon snapping back that jigen never gave him the chance to

which leads to

Jigen and Goemon Argument

Jigen actually ends up getting into a shouting match with Goemon on how dare he judge their decisions when he hasn’t even had the stones to go UP and see Lupin. And how he refuses to allow Goemon to use the fact he’s been guarding his sister as a excuse cause even MADDIE has pushed him to visit but Goemon refused

Jigen saying that Goemon never needed his permission to visit lupin,

but Goemon saying that he had no way of knowing that when he's been avoiding him ever since that fight he had with lupin in pt 5

Only for Jigen to point out how no one has EVER actually tried to kill each other and that’s what Goemon doesn’t seem to get, they have always pretended but no one except Goemon has actively tried to KILL someone from this group and not only that nearly succeeded in doing so

However before he can continue, too Jigen’s surprise, however, Zeni steps into the ring in Goemon's defense for one simple reason

Zeni would probably say that jigen hasn't seen the full extent of Goemon's regret, and the fact that Goemon gave up everything when he believed he had 'defeated' lupin is proof enough that Goemon isn't making some kind of 'excuse' for what he did.

At the end, I'm sure they're all aware that Jigen is just snapping under stress. He's upset, he wants Lupin better, he doesn't want to have the conversation about his leg, he doesn't want to make these choices, he just wants to wake up beside him in bed and this is all just a bad dream

but thats not gonna happen any time soon. . .

Curly Shepard:

° He flirts by being mean to you because Curly's a little shit lmaoo! He's that guy that'll get under your skin so you talk to him. I'm pretty sure at first y'all couldn't stand each other.

° He tries to be smooth, but he's not the brainiest so the lines he practiced either sound corny or dirty ngl. He did get most of them from Tim or his gang members after all. Curly is a bit of a copycat in that sense, but he's original in some stupidity he pulls. He's actually incredibly funny, with a quirky sense of smoothness.

° Deffo tried flirting with you by propping his foot on a stool, missed and face planted lmaoo. You never let him live it down, but it got him a date with you because he made you laugh a lot. So in the end, Curly's stupidity and clumsiness won! (I say that affectionately ofc! We Stan Curly Shepard on this blog.)

° He thinks flirting is also doing something that he knows is gonna get him into trouble right in front of you. Curly's a bit of a show off, isn't he? Nevermind, there's entertainment at all times in your budding relationship. Curly doesn't like to be serious too often, so you'll be in for lots of fun and trouble making!

Dallas Winston:

° Omfg is he a bastard! Flirting with Dallas is one wild ass ride. The president of the, "I Like You So I'm Gonna Be Mean to You Club". The bigger the reaction you give him, the better. And boy will he get it because he genuinely does have a whole arsenal of things. He'll get dirty real fast, though that's more at the start.

° He's very touchy and will sling his arm around your shoulders, a hand in your back pocket… He shows interest. Dallas is not shy!

° His eyes fall to your lips, filled with mischief and interest. An absolute tease when he leans in just a little closer, and when you're ready to kiss him, he turns away smoothly at the last second. All just to rile you up because he likes 'em feisty!

° Dirty jokes galore! He's got incredibly smooth as hell pickup lines too. When he wants to be, he can make a good impression.

Darry Curtis:

° Darry is surprisingly smooth when he wants to be. People are stunned because they don't see it coming as it's not on display often. His grumpiness disappears, replaced by a cheerful charm and smoothed features. Not an ounce of stress on his face. He's inclined to laugh more. He's still got the charm! Oh and his smile is to die for!

° He's old school and very gentlemanly. He wants to make a good impression even if you've been married for decades! Darry enjoys taking care of the one he's interested in. That'll never go away, so flirting can almost come in the form of checking up on you too.

° Darry pulls out all of the romantic stops that he can. Expect lots of flowers and stuff - Soda had to help him arrange it all because he's so damn busy, but his intentions were definitely there. No one can deny that. He even gave Sodapop strict orders, otherwise he'd have beaten the tar outta him because Soda gets distracted easily. (Obviously that last bit isn't me being totally serious.)

° Lots of eye contact and smiling. He's got a beautiful smile - and yes, I know I mentioned that again. Darry shows interest through looking into your eyes, having a gentle arm around your shoulders and just being the gentleman that he is.

Johnny Cade:

° He's clumsy and it can be insanely challenging to pick up when he's flirting. However, he has more colour to his face than what's normal. He's a glowing tomato!

° Johnny is genuinely interested and will say the most sincere compliments to you when he's worked up the courage to do so. I feel he would stammer a lot, but he means what he says. You can tell, and it makes you have an explosion of butterflies in your belly.

° Pda isn't his thing really. Touch in of itself can be challenging to experience, but he does try to hold your hand out in public. He always sticks by you the closest, so much so that you can practically feel his body heat. Don't take offense to this, he's way more affectionate when it's just you two. It's just that all these curious eyes on you both freaks him out.

° He goes out of his way to help you with things, even if he's not really good at it. It's his way of showing you he cares about you. Johnny wants to feel like he's worth something, and how he does this is by getting his hands a little dirty for you. It leads to a lot of wholesome or even funny moments. The more he does this without you protesting, the more comfortable he gets around you.

Ponyboy Curtis:

° He's clumsy too in his approach. He blushes sm but he tries to be flirty. He fails, but not without you giggling. He gets real mopey, but adores your sudden affection. Pony is just embarrassed.

° He's kind, helping you with any of your school work as he enjoys spending time with you. Gets all dreamy eyed when you're there, and you'll catch him daydreaming - even when you're talking. He just sorta gets lost, guys. Earth to Pony!

° Compliments you sincerely and smiles a lot more. Suggests that you guys go see a movie together. This is a huge step, because as we know, Ponyboy doesn't like watching movies with other people. However, he feels comfortable with you, knowing you won't intrude in his mental space by gratingly talking through said movie.

° Ponyboy shares things with you that he never shares with anyone like movies, books, sunsets, etc. If he's talking passionately about something to you then it's a good sign. He loves listening to your passions too. He can wrap his head around a lot of different topics all at once. All I can see now is Ponyboy just swooning over you silently with a whimsical sigh as you chat about your latest interest. Absolutely wholesome!

Sodapop Curtis:

° Sodapop flirts to the max with you! He makes it very obvious that he's into you whilst also remaining cool and smooth. He's got a knack for sweeping you off your feet, it feels like you're in a romance movie!

° Sometimes it can be challenging to see when he's interested or just flirting for the fun of it. The lines can be blurred because of how friendly he is. Yet do not let that deter you. When Sodapop is seriously interested, you can tell with the sparkle in those gorgeous, dreamy eyes of his.

° He gets your number with a smooth pick up line! He's also touchy since his love language is touch. Not inappropriately of course, but what you're comfortable with: Holding hands, his hand in your back pocket, an arm over your shoulder, etc. Sodapop is drawn to you like a fly is drawn to honey, but not obsessively. He knows the balance and picks up quickly what you are and aren't comfortable with.

° Asks you out or takes you to a party. His entire attention is on you. He wants to show people how much fun y'all are having. Sodapop is very direct, but he can also be coy. He likes a bit of a chase, but he carries himself with sweet gestures, yet flirtatious advances. He knows how to have you swooning over him in seconds.

Steve Randle:

° Oh boy, you're not prepared for Steve Randle. He's smooth asf and that wise cracking attitude either grates on your last nerves or makes you think he's slick enough to date. There's no in between, but whether you hate him or not at first, it doesn't matter, he somehow gets you to be fond of him soon.

° Soda is his wingman for sure, helping him feel better about himself. He gasses him up to you, which makes him feel less nervous about asking you out. He wants to make a good impression. Besides, Sodapop helps ease your nerves too! The bridge that causes you both to meet.

° Steve is more physical. He likes to have a hand on you at all times. He isn't shy at all, but he tows the line of respect very well. Only gets more dirty if you're into that kinda thing lmaoo.

° He's the type to wink at you and shit lol. It's actually not embarrassing or cheesy at all. Sometimes you'll look up from across the room at a party and he's half listening to Soda while he's getting your drinks. You catch him looking at you with those pretty blue eyes and he just winks in a way that makes your heart throb. You have to look away. It only makes him approach you, whispering, "Whatchu hidin' those pretty eyes from me for?" right into your ear as he hands you your drink.

Tim Shepard:

° He fights Dallas for the presidential spot of the "I Like You So I'm Gonna Be Mean to You Club" lmaoo. However he has a lot of charm. His handsomeness also helps. He's a ladies man after all! Tim is swooned after by many women, but he's got his eyes set on you.

° Once again, physical touch and flirty comments galore! It's the one time Tim is the most talkative. He is adventurous, pulling you in tow. He's eager on the inside, but smooth and mysterious on the outside. Everything you say and do he notices, he just might not make it apparent.

° Really observant so he knows quite quickly how to get you into his good graces. It's like a gift he has. He also is the type to tease you a little mercilessly when you've done something cute or whatever. He can't help it. Any excuse to get you even a little embarrassed without outright humiliating you gets a kick out of him. He enjoys it when you smack him playfully on the arm when he's made a dirty joke, because you're relaxed.

° Tim is the type to walk or drive you home. It's sort of sweet, but he just says he's going in that direction anyway lol. He usually isn't. He's a protective boyfriend, and wouldn't be able to forgive himself if he let you run off on your own and you got jumped. He's adamant about it too, and when he can't, he gets someone he trusts from his gang to walk you home.

Two-bit Matthews:

° Two does what he does best, which is to make you laugh. He loves to see and hear you smile and laugh. Bonus points if you're crying and wheezing! He enjoys someone that can have easy banter with. So the more that you poke fun back at him, the more he's gonna be into you.

° He's such a dork with his cheesy pickup lines. He has no shame, people! Two has the corniest jokes and lines, they make you roll your eyes and shake your head. He's so much fun to be around, because one moment you could be talking, the next you're swing dancing like no tomorrow! Absolute chaotic spontaneity.

° Puts up the charm, loving how you keep up with him. He's witty and likes witty people too! Two enjoys your sense of humour - even if it's a little quirky. He can do quirky without any trouble, just be warned he's got a dirty mouth, especially when drunk. So dirty jokes are definitely on the menu.

° Physically affectionate to the point where he may not get that he's going a bit overboard. He's not out to make you uncomfortable, but being boozed up all the time and not taking things so seriously can get in the way. But nothing funny I promise. Besides, I think Two-bit just likes to be around you so much anyway.

i'm going to assume these tickle wars occur in a dream bc well black swan does not have a body and she has the ability to choose who gets to see her so you probably can't tickle her irl and that's just not fair lol but even in a dream it's still black swan! like have you seen her burst?? she summons those giant arms and they have claws too!! and she can make people forget things for a moment, so they're like what were we doing again?? but ya black swan is the tickle monster if black swan chooses to play fair, then it's kafka because kafka comes from a place where the people do not feel fear (her backstory makes her sound like some eldritch horror) so she will do absolutely anything to win. also she still has the ability to influence people's minds and can use that to turn the tables when things do start getting bad like "listen, you will tickle luocha"

I had a legitimate question/complaint that I wanted to send you and I'm still going to do so but while I was thinking about it something else occurred to me and I wanted to share it but I wanted to tell you something first.

The change in Rhaenyra and Laenor’s relationship is the ONLY change I am willing to wholeheartedly accept because it was a wonderful change.

The canon versions aren’t much related to speak of. Rhaenyra has her reasons for not wanting to marry Laenor and at one point she makes a homophobic comment and Laenor did the bare minimum by showing up to a couple of events and visiting so he could say “oh yeah, that baby is definitely mine🤭 Can we call him Joffrey?☺️” (which still means he recognized them as his own and they were legally Velaryon)

But in the show Rhaenyra and Laenor quickly create a mutually beneficial partnership, Rhaenyra cares for Laenor very clearly during 1x05 trying to reach him and I interpret her expression while they are getting married as her acknowledging Laenor’s pain, Laenor is obviously much more present in the children’s lives and at court, we can see a little how complicated that dynamic must have been with Laenor having the freedoms of a man and Rhaenyra being technically superior to him (and none of them seem resentful of each other!), Laenor also worries about Rhaenyra and blames himself for some of their problems (it’s not them, it’s Alicent) and failing Rhaenyra and the children. Rhaenyra in turn takes the time to assure him that she doesn't blame him, that she doesn't see him as defective or wrong.

A I have no idea where the shot came from that Laenor was uncomfortable holding Joff (I thought he was uncomfortable because of Alicent, you know, the woman who made his wife walk after giving birth and that insults him at least twice) but I don't think he is any more uncomfortable with children than most parents of that time, I would even go so far as to say that their relationship is close. We see Laenor carrying Joffrey both on the way back and when Rhaenyra leaves the court, in the second case they could have given him to a nanny but no, Laenor was the one carrying their son. Another moment I really like is the low-key shot of Laenor and Luke holding hands during Laena's funeral or the whole thing with Laenor, Rhaenyra and Harwin with the kids. There is no discomfort, children are not distant or uncomfortable when dealing with him.

In all the ways that matter Laenor claimed the children as his own, he had a pretty good relationship with Rhaenyra despite it not being sexual in nature and the problems that brought about for reasons and it is shown that he loved them.

The real queer friendship in the show was Laenor and Rhaenyra not Alicent and Rhaenyra. And that's my controversial opinion today.

I talk about Rhaenicent HERE, how it didn't and still doesn't make sense to me due to the writing not bringing enough reason as to why it exists. I also must remind people that I am not queer (I don't think bc IDK these days) or of the LGBTQAI+ community. So if I am missing something that could explain some stuff about queerness in fiction or real-life sexually-incompatible relationships, let me know, please!

I am torn about this relationship--book AND show-wise but what I am sure of is that this relationship wasn't as "mutually" beneficial as some might think. Most of it was neither of their faults, but Rhaenyra's situation vs Laenor's is enough reason for her to be resentful not just of her father but him as well. Their relationship was consequently emotionally distant from Laenor even while living in the same spaces as him for a decade. So instead of being a "sweet" thing, it was more a "bittersweet" thing.

Book!

Context for the comment Rhaenyra made against marrying Laenor ("A Question of Succession"):

"My half brothers would be more to his taste".

And Laenor naming their last child ("A Question of Succession"):

"Laenor was at last permitted to name a child after his fallen friend"

And these are when and where the V boys were born (114, 115, 117).

There are layers to each part of these quotes: Laenor is "permitted" to name his own child. More likely barred by Corlys than Rhaenyra because the first two have Velaryon-sounding names and Laenor thus has been made to push aside his first (known) great love/disconnect from his own gayness/"repress" for the sake of patriarchal-heterosexual tradition WHILE Rhaenyra's comment about Laenor reveals a parallel to the preference shown towards boys and men in her society. He would "prefer" someone else, a male, over her. Her concern is not primarily "owning" him sexually but it mirrors/parallels/reminds her that her father/patriarchy diminishing a woman's importance or decentering her for the man's centering and sociopolitical elevation. The "man" here is Viserys and Corlys.

But in the inverse, Laenor named their kid after his past lover when Rhaenyra couldn't give a Targaryen name or any name of her choosing to their last two boys.

Of course, that is a little self-centered of Rhaenyra but the bubble of resentment comes from a valid place and is not completely unfounded and she sorta has to be bit more self-centered...more tragic for them both.

And Laenor naming their last child after his dead lover when he's supposed to keep his relationships a secret for the better of their kids if not for himself is also sort of self-centeredness. Again, when Rhaenyra seemingly couldn't name her own first 2 children.

In a way, Young!Book!Rhaenyra takes Laenor's sex acts (bc Westerosi do not have the conceptions of sexuality being an identity element so much as an act of pseudo-taboo sex acts) as his being another person/obligation/worry who is forced on her, not going to add to her life and not caring for her or prioritizing or supporting her to a certain degree that she needs--another "burden" aside from the one political benefit of tying the Velaryons to her...which is necessary in the first place bc she is female and Viserys pissed Corlys off.

It's like it touches on that wound girls/women carry. In-text/world, I felt it moves through Rhaenyra-the-person/character as unconscious resentment towards another instance where she cannot access what she desires and becomes stuck with a person who cannot even desire her at the very least, as she finds Harwin can later. The show actually does well enough to bring out what was likely true from the original story here when she's talking to Daemon in episode 7 about Harwin: "It felt good to be desired". To have someone be there for her.

(bc despite that injury he had that might have taken months to heal, I still think it's too strange and non-coincidental to ignore how Rhaenyra's first three kids all do not look at least like herself in coloring, not in eyes or hair...Alysanne was one Targ with Andal blonde hair and blue eyes while Alyssa had one purple eye for goodness sake! and the Targs after Daeron II's generation had traits from either one or both parents, Targ or not Targ...this is a fiction piece and while it models real life, it is less random as real life, and "85-90%" of stuff is done for a reason)

And with Laenor, as I mentioned, he must have felt pulled apart from himself--resentful of his forced marriage and further repression from such marriage to Rhaenyra, thus his staying away.

I don't think that they didn't come to respect each other or even not care about each other in the book NOR that they were horrible people for how they felt feelings and their circumstances, how they moved around each other, and probably interacted. Especially after Laenor began spending more time with Rhaenyra after their sons' confrontation with Aemond at Dragonstone.

But it never came across to me as particularly close or Laenor taking up the responsibility to those he apparently did see as a family until said family was hurt. And I have not seen anything to suggest Rhaenyra was concerningly hurtful or homophobic towards Laenor after they marry in canon. So, do we really know if she actually hated him in the original story, or thought his queerness made him less than or worthy of hate, esp with what I said about it more about expressing her frustration?

Show!

You:

It seems like Rhaenyra still got the shorter end of the stick to breed a stronger sort of resentment. I think that their relationship was actually more or less the same as it was in the book, and the space they shared only affected Laenor's time spent with the kids and not time spent helping Rhaenyra elsewhere. I could argue it should have been even a little worse bc they live in the same space and Laenor is doing the same things as his book counterpart.

That unequal position, in my view, actually kept them emotionally apart enough for Laenor to not really understand Rhaenyra as a person while Rhaenyra seems to understand Laenor pretty well. To look at this doylistically, honestly, this could be a fault of the writers and the time jumps, but let's dive in.

FIRST - We have not actually seen, at any point, Laenor approach Rhaenyra to ask what's up/check-in. Any time he's there, he's there for either the most dramatic things (birth of a son and climbing the stairs), complaining, or inadvertently make her seem an anomaly (comments about breasts). At the end, again like in the book, he offers to be closer to her and focus on her and the boys...and that is the only time we see some sort of action of the sort of support Rhaenyra sees she will get from Daemon, thus her decision to have Laenor "killed".

After Joffrey Lonmouth's death, Laenor found Qarl Correy and Rhaenyra had allowed the man to be close to Laenor despite the rumors. Laenor doesn't mind and even seems to like Harwin. But unlike Rhaenyra, Laenor does not need nor want a good image as much as she does. Rhaenyra needs Laenor more than the reverse.

SECOND - In the 5th episode after Joffery's death, yes, she is acknowledging his pain but you'd have to be self-involved to a particular degree or just plain unobservant to not sympathize and acknowledge that pain...plus she knew they were together as Laenor told her and they made that a private arrangement on the beach presumably just a few days before. Finally, in that episode, she has not actually lived with him yet.

THIRD - Due to the time jump, we do not know how Laenor got to be a permanent resident in the Keep of King's Landing when he should have been at Driftmark as he is in the book before Laena's death/Vhagar's "claim". Does either Viserys or Corlys order him to stay with Rhaenyra? Did Rhaenyra order him to stay by her side with her? Did Laenor choose freely or under a nonverbal pressure from those around him and what exactly did that look like? Did he have a confrontation with his father concerning his sexuality and the image its open-secretness presents to the family and he just needed to get away from Corlys--did he and Rhaenyra bond over that? Even so, how does the court treat both Rhaenyra & Laenor, both of whom are in court with their respective lovers: Laenor being cuckolded (doesn't matter that he's gay, he's a man and "gayness" is not an identity to these Westerosi) and Rhaenyra, as the future ruler, cannot be made to be seen as weak through her husband's/partner's open "infidelities".

More Notes

Many have noted how unaware Laenor is in the show. Both are resigned, but Rhaenyra is less..."blind", I'd say, because she has to be "on" and aware of others all the time. This alone shows that they cannot be as close as some people claim, because they are not on a similar page of observation of each other or their situation.

This is Rhaenyra & Laenor says about his desire to go to war:

War is afoot again in the Stepstones, Rhaenyra. The Triarchy takes new life from its alliance with Dorne. They're waylaying ships and cargo. Qarl's been fighting there. He showed me a... ( laughing ) He showed me a sack of sapphires big as walnuts he took from the pirate he slew. Ah... After all this time, this is just what I need, a little adventure. Aside from me not liking how Rhaenyra's decision to go to Dragonstone is compared to what Laenor meant by leaving (bc she is doing it for the sake of family and people's lives versus him trying to abandon said family...this is not some modern tale where the newly out and thriving queer person incidentally has kids who can survive their absence or at least not have it threatened after all):

Laenor had been trying to get out of being in KL with Rhaenyra for, as he calls it, "adventure" as if he weren't already in some sort of agreement with Rhaenyra to protect those he himself decided to treat them as his own sons. If it weren't for the fact he sees those kids as his own AND that agreement before they were even born, I wouldn't 100% begrudge him. Add to the fact that, because he's a man, if he weren't so lower-ranked or actually cared for his non-trad family he could have just gone and no one would disparage him in the slightest. Her having to remind him of his promise and stop him from making comments about her body to--who is to her--a stranger while she's trying to stop herself from leaking and coming back from a council where her stepmother/former friend has tried to humiliate and undermine her the whole time -> her reminding him it was not her who put him in their position so as not for him to make it seem as if she were the one imprisoning him in the first place when he said he had the right to is itself a stack of emotional labor. It truly read to me that Laenor was trying to escape the life he has with Rhaenyra as much as he did in the book. It wasn't actually much of a real change.

At the same time, we must remember that show!Rhaenyra is a very different person from book!Rhaenyra. This is a woman who would not go to war for the throne her father gave her because her father was a man who tried to be as nonconfrontational as possible AND for a prophecy that she should have reasoned her father never would have told Aegon, of all people, about and how he took the time to drag himself out of bed for her & her kids' rights/protection in episode 8. The show unconsciously makes a more quietly repressed woman of Rhaenyra in an attempt to make her more "likable", to her own, more-avoidable detriment.

One reason why show!-her may not feel like ordering Laenor more--other than realizing his being forced like her--is the inevitability of his freedoms despite his queerness. Why make a "fuss" when it will not actually go anywhere and it will actually hurt Laenor? Another reason is by how she looks at Laenor, she feels guilt at being the person Criston was actually angry with--thus indirectly leading to Laenor losing his lover so traumatically, thus maybe trying to take it upon herself to make sure Laenor has little reason to either resent or begin to actually hate her more (bc he is both one of the only people there in her camp to keep her some sort of company aside from Harwin in some way) and/or she feels like she must take the responsibility of making him happy. Both of these can give another "responsibility" along with being a mom, the court images, Alicent, her father's social self-blindness, etc even though Joffrey's death is not her fault as much as it was Criston's. All/more eyes are on her and her behavior and she is the one having to birth a kid one minute and walk up a flight of stairs the next. And she was absolutely going to do it alone because Laenor was not there until he decided to be. She is the one who will receive the least grace or attention and thereby the most blame. This is definitely not Laenor's fault...but his using that ability to be away, it certainly adds to the burden, potentially becoming a polyp of the main problem. This is, why again, they both decide that Laenor should "die", to repeat myself.

These things are inevitably going to breed resentment from Rhaenyra and travel against Laenor, esp when he's deciding to make it that much harder without acknowledging that he is or thinking how it could be. And if she were more resentful, or really even a bit more expressive towards him than she was in the show, I do not think that is a moral flaw on her part, doesn't make her the bad guy. Not expressing your anger more often doesn't make the relationship closer/better...in fact, it shows how disconnected they are emotionally. Not only is it possible she cannot feel as if she has all the right to "too much" of Laenor after Joffrey's death and how it went down, but she nevertheless "needs to" demand "more" from him because he's still not doing much, he agreed, their kids' lives and reputations are in danger, and by the near end of epi 6 he's even trying to get out of that much. No man could really understand or appreciate all of this, but again, that distance and trying to get out of things really clinched it for me.

Just because she doesn't hate him or lash out at him, doesn't mean the resentment against him isn't there and that it isn't strong. It shows itself in her sarcasm at his asking her if it hurt; her looks at his drunken talk about her leaking and swollen breasts to Qarl Correy (how fond would one be of a person after that tactlessness because it also shows how little Laenor really minds how his words will come across to her at specific moments?); her having to make it clear to him he must stay by her side and explain to him why she must (the mental load we modern talks about is paralleled here), etc.

And just because show!her was more accomodating, doesn't make her an actually better human than her book counterpart. Same with Laenor--just because he seems like he was around more often--especially since they here share the same space--doesn't mean he is there with her because he absolutely wants to be and is performing the duty he said he would. This is what Rhaenyra was talking about after she dismissed Correy so she could demand Laenor stay.

If anything, Laenor's proximity to Rhaenyra and still not being as there as he should makes it easier for him to be closer to his sons and have a relationship of sorts with their elder selves (because in the show those kids are also older--by appearance--than their selves in the book by this time, and thus they have had more time with Laenor as their dad). It didn't bring the married couple closer so much as give Rhaenyra visible, everyday proof her husband was not her partner.

Thereby, again, it wasn't actually all that "mutual"--he didn't have to put as much energy as her and he didn't and he didn't really think of how he could...but like you said, he did more than most fathers in that the little initiative he does give is more than what most fathers in his position would give Laenor does take a bit of initiative than most men would give in his position even if they wanted to be her Prince Consort for the influence, title, and power alone. He tries.....but then that still makes me question if he actually is there by circumstance, order, or choice and how he feels about that. Still, it's not good for him, so does he, if ever, blame or lash out at Rhaneyra and how does he express that.

The show tells us "unlikely", but that doesn't seem psychologically or emotionally realistic to me. On Laenor's end, he's told he cannot be that one masculine thing--be a brave adventurer/traveling knight--because his class/station has to lead him to marry a princess who depends on his voluntary discretion the balance between security and public respect when he never asked for any of it but he's told that he's a horrible person if he doesn't do this for his ambitious father.

It is because of all this that I do not see Rhaenyra as necessarily being hateful toward Laenor in either book or the show for his sexuality as much as his not being compatible with her needs after a whole life of subtle and unsubtle constraint while acknowledging that it isn't either of their fault...until in the show Laenor was headed there.

Their kindness (to a degree) for each other and Laenor's obvious willingness to at least perform when told or encouraged certainly make things easier. It's still far from what's needed, with it not quite meeting the bare minimum.

So for me, the change that I liked was their coming to a verbal agreement for them to look for other intimacies. It could have happened in canon, but we'll never know, GRRM chose to write this like a very unreliable history book written by misogynist, homophobic, etc. "men of learning". This wasn't a dumb choice, without its own storytelling merits (there's a reason we continue to use frame narratives), or even fun to read through...it's that you're trusting your readers a lot to know what's in their hands and some are just not going to get it or want to.

omg so one thing i noticed about the latest his man 2 eps was, like you said in another ask reply, seonwoo stuck his nose into hyungjun and minsung's business for absolutely no reason AND spilled stuff to hyungjun that minsung told him. he even told sungho what junsung said in the kitchen - the whole "i don't like people touching what's mine" and okay yeah whatever, apparently he loves creating drama even though he says he doesn't. however, on the other hand, when jeongwook asked junsung if he was the one yoonghee called, junsung just explained the whole misunderstanding and didn't even reveal who yoonghee actually wanted to call. isn't that common courtesy? isn't that also something seonwoo absolutely just doesn't think of doing? i'm really trying my best not to dislike seonwoo but every time he pulls someone to the side or corners them into a room to talk to them/reveal stuff people said to him, i just have to pause and ask myself "was that really necessary? why? what was the reason?" he's trying so hard to be the main character and it's getting on my nerves because this is a dating show. please focus on the person you're interested in, not your "rival" that you're forcing him to be and just let everyone else do their own thing naturally. god. anyway sorry for the rant, just needed to get this off my chest. 😭

this comparison of how seonwoo and junsung handle information in the house is so beyond telling ESPECIALLY when you consider how they both handle sharing their own feelings vs sharing gossip/drama about other people, bc junsung handled that whole yonghee situation so perfectly, which sounds like an exaggeration bc it also wasn’t especially difficult, like yes if you know an error has been made, just sort it out with that person so they can do what they want with it and don’t share it with anyone else. you’re exactly right, it’s common curtesy, but also shows how seriously good hearted he is bc it never once ever occurred to him to use it against anyone or share it around as gossip. no, he just simply resolved the situation bc he does not care for the drama. let me say it again; HE DOES NOT CARE FOR THE DRAMA. seonwoo keeps trying to get under his skin and start shit and it gets on his nerves that junsung remains unphased. he entered this house and said I’m here for sungho, everyone else can do whatever, I’m gonna do my shit and just try and stop me. bc that’s the thing, he won’t disclose anyone else’s information or gossip but with his own feelings he will be so forward and direct and clear, precisely bc he doesn’t care for drama or misunderstandings, and bc he remains primarily concerned with himself and what he’s doing, knowing that if he stays true to himself and does what he wants, whatever happens at least then he won’t have any regrets.

seonwoo, on the other hand, will play so high and fast with other people’s words and gossip and drama and yet will hardly say a word about how he’s actually feeling. he will stick his nose into any situation and finds it so easy to just share not just what he’s said but what others have said in private conversations to others, and from what we see he doesn’t clarify whether this is information he can share. so yeah, sure, it’s cute he’s playing matchmaker for minsung and hyungjun, but did either of them ever ask him to? did either of them say hey can you help me out and be the go between telling him what I just said? bc minsung is still considering two options, and seonwoo just seems to be pushing hyungjun down his throat for i don’t even know what or if there is an ulterior motive, but no one is intruding on his situation with sungho and junsung so why he’s doing this I truly don’t know. I’m glad he seems to have a good friendship with minsung but at what point does he just start looking like a stirrer, like I swear how many of the conversations in eps 6 and 7 started bc seonwoo pulled someone to the side. and on top of that, from how many of those conversations did we actually learn how he feels about people. whenever he talks about sungho or yonghee, he says nice things that encourage his relationship with them, sure, but there’s only so many times I can hear “he’s special and not what I expected” and “I would like to try and date you sometime” before I’m asking ok but what does that mean?? how much are you interested and to what extent are you committed/willing to commit to this person??? the stuff that actually matters to the other people involved in these relationships. every conversation with him reminds me of jaewon in the eighth sense saying I’m not just gonna tell you my trauma, you have to coax it out of me and I’m sorry but you do not get the jaewon trauma pass.

and just to say… sungho isn’t out here starting drama either. in the kitchen, he simply says I talked to seonwoo to junsung, and doesn’t really go into anymore detail, bc he doesn’t feel the need to disclose everything. and in that conversation, they both hold a level of respect, junsung respecting the privacy of sungho’s conversation with seonwoo and sungho respecting the privacy of what seonwoo said. and yet without disclosing anything they manage to have a fruitful conversation that establishes where they’re all at, which is what the situation needs, clarity. and it just makes me mad that seonwoo doesn’t afford that same privacy to either of them. like it’s gone past a matter of intent for me, like whether he intends to or not, he is starting drama, and it’s too much.

random thoughts dump of the week bc none of this deserves its own post

coming down from a smol john kearns kick and really enjoyed it, guy has a ridiculously sweet presence and i really like his voice. it also brings me great joy his previous career was working in museums and as a tour guide. i would like that life, i think (i worked at universal orlando for a little bit in 2013 and was always super jealous of the vip tour guides lol). he mentioned on one of his rhlstps that despite winning arguably the biggest (british) comedy awards there are, he never released a standup special or dvd, and he kinda wants to keep it that way so he has something special between him and his live audience — and that really made me sad face. like, my guy, what about those of us who can't see you bc won't leave that damn island. (also ed gamble's new tour having no nyc date felt personal...) in another episode, he talked a little about, in great part due to social media, people want comedians they can know everything about, get the whole look of; comedians who are the same people onstage as off. he's not like that and doesn't really like the idea of that. i think there's a lot to say about that subject but i'll just leave it for now...

speaking of touring ed byrne next week!!! and jimmy and alan carr coming up!! what a fun time :')

speaking of rhlstp and ed, one thing that occurred to me and i thought was quite funny upon listening to his recent episode is that both richard and ed have that self-aware side of them that admits to bitterness, professional jealousy, annoyance with critics/haters, believing they're not as successful as they deserve to be, etc. while it can come off whiney here and there, it's not too obnoxious or anything, i just found it amusing they had this (often concealed or private) quality in common. i might even put jenny eclair in that camp (others too but that's a discourse i don't really wanna start lmao)

if another youtuber, following amelia dimoldenberg (and munya? does he count?), had to go on taskmaster i would probably vote for ollie kendal off of jolly. in my mind he and alex would be genuinely good friends outside of the show

speaking of back in the day — and i do mean back, like 15+ years ago — and my main panel show obsession was buzzcocks, there were a few non-comedians who would come on panel shows who were properly fucking funny, like martin freeman and josh groban, and i'd always pray they'd eventually come on again. and i think at the time the person at the top of my list was professor green. how random is that TT he was just always up for laugh and just so likable. i also LOVED the song "just good to be green" with lily allen in like 2010 lmaooo this really ages me :)

been really enjoying some old angus deayton-hosted stuff, like old hignfy and wilty. i got into panel shows after he'd stepped out of the spotlight, but i remember being crushed when i found out about his scandal. i also remember stephen fry standing up for him and chastising paul & ian publicly after That Episode of hignfy — which absolutely blew my mind, even though stephen has always said what he thinks — and i agreed with him and am not sure even today if i fully forgave paul & ian for how they treated angus. ik he's still here and there, but i wonder if we'll ever see him in any properly notable capacity again

i've been making a lot of typos in my gifs lately for literally no reason other than not proofreading my rushing and it's embarrazzing i'm gonna do better

speaking of gifs i have NOTHING!!! in my drafts folder. nothing. no content. nothing is made. nothing in the queue. [sigh] sounds like tonight we be bustin it out huh. idk about other gifmakers (i actually don't follow any other panel show blogs, but this isn't necessarily a panel show blog thing, just a regular original content thing) but i don't usually make gifs throughout the week — instead, like, marathon gif like two times a week and build up 10–20 drafts to post throughout the week. if you gif every single day or to keep up with all of the new content, it starts to become a chore, which is never fun :(

speaking of which i probably won't gif outsiders too much because people don't seem to care too much about it + the webrips are just...so ugly in gif form, even at 1080p! it's a dave thing fr, taskmaster used to be the same way -_-

gep playlist explained.

safe and sound / taylor swift & the Civil Wars. thinking serval lullaby sort of vibes here. general war vibes is also very much gep coded in my brain bc fight fight war war.

would anyone care / citizen soldier. very much leaning onto the when you are strong for so long you are also suffering. people not seeing what he's enduring, how exhausting it is to push and push and the battle has no end in sight.

heavy is the crown / draughty. it's for this one verse specifically about soldiers for me, see those who are sent to war die like lambs sent to slaughter, the toy soldiers being the guard upon the preservations altar. there's a couple of other stray verses here which feel gep shaped to me. a shield always withstanding.

Army Dreamers / Kate Bush. there's alot of tiktok edits going around with this song rn and they're all regarding soldiers who die early and that's very guard shaped to me. the chorus is also showing what they could have been and what they won't be because they will die young, they will always die young.

Running up that hill / Kate Bush. again, emphasising the encouragement to not express how it feels, about how it does hurt, about how the deal they made is going to cost them their lives. and the if I only could make a deal with god to change their places being regarding those who have died and Gep could not save them.

hymn for the missing / red. this is very much grieving the lost, what it feels like to march on as a soldier when people you care about very dearly die and you see them die. the only place they meet again is in renditions of their death and life in dreams and it's just reaching for them but being unable to touch. you took it with you when you left being the bond and the happiness that others create in your life. scars referring to the ones that litter alot of gep's body from conflict.

little lion man / mumford and sons. the not as brave as you were at the start really does speak to the way Gepard was when he joined the Guard and was filled with zest for protecting and where he stands now, the weeping could be grieving. you know that you have seen this all before, death, death more death.

avalanche / bring me the horizon. Am I broken, what's the chance I will survive reflecting onto processing grief, what it means to exist beyond the death of comrades, what it feels to be broken for the first time. the square doesn't fit the circle is very much Gepard needing to fit the paragim that's been inherited by his name and how he's not the perfect fit. the whole chorus just really reflects on inner turmoil, I cannot think how to precisely articulate it but it's like, the shaking of his world to the core by death and fighting and anguish.

monster / epic the musical. this is very much self reflecting on the things he hasn't prevented, the supreme guardian's corruption, working in tandem with that and realising how much you stand for isn't what you thought it was. men dying, again.

ruthlessness / epic the musical. this is sort of a aha the vibes are there for me but it's also Gepard father reprimanding him for being weak willed when you listen to it in my brain atleast.

my goodbye / epic the musical. thinking conversation between Gep and his father, thinking about how not viewing others as assets and weapons leads to being soft, sentimental, that he did not teach him this way. Odysseus' s part in this is him talking back to him, telling how he's enduing every single death that occurs on the front lines, that his father is blind to that reality.

just a man / epic the musical. survivors guilt !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

remember them / epic the musical. this is very much the preservation of the will of those who perish on the battle field, even the way he sings it really slams that home to me. the fire they continue to stoke is the will they preserve and the way they push on is for the sake of their fall brothers.

playing his game / death note musical. i added this last night thinking about sampard LMAO i don't have an excuse this is just sheerly the vibe of understanding each other getting under each other's skin.

i need your thoughts on the new episode/s bc i genuinely don't wanna watch it myself

i am not going to rewatch the episodes if i can help it so i'm going off memory here but. sure thing anon <3

ep5: i've said it before but i forgot around 80% of what was happening in this episode as i was watching it. lucifer is a nothing character. at best, he is stolas but even less interesting. he does not serve any purpose but to repeat the doubts that have already been expressed around charlie's project. his reconciliation with charlie comes out of nowhere and there's no reason for them to have fallen out in the first place since he is clearly loving and wants to compromise with her. he's boring and so was the episode.

i feel like it was also trying to be an alastor episode but doing a very bad job at it. alastor has had no character development occur on screen at all. there's a bit with husk thag doesn't work because it needed to be established earlier; as-is it feels like a way to try and show that alastor IS on a similar level of abusive to valentino, but that 100% should've happened before ep4. more to the point, he implies to mimzy that he cares about the hotel project, but this (again) does not make sense because we have not seen him grow to care at all. the dad/daughter angle they try to push with him and charlie also has zero setup. they've spoken maybe two sentences to each other in the season proper.

ep6: dumpster fire. the exorcist vaggie reveal is poorly handled and there is no reason charlie shouldn't know about it, let alone have it be this big liar revealed moment. the scene of vaggie being demoted is extremely fast and difficult to follow because there is no time to sit with the drama at all; the reason she defects is so cliche there's no point in commenting on it.

"nobody knows how people get into heaven" when it was angels who created heaven is a confusing plot point and a bad way of saying the criteria to get into heaven is arbitrary. it fails at being morally gray because there is nothing about heaven worth protecting, and the only reason sinners are killed is to prevent an uprising. emily realizing heaven is wrong over the course of one song is terribly rushed, and the reveal of vaggie's former angel status to charlie, as a moment, is silly. the b-plot with cherri at the club is bad all the way through. cherri's character is assassinated and treated like an after-school special villain, the rivalry between her and pentious is dissolved in favor of a crush that was not properly established at all (and which retcons their dynamic from the pilot), the SA joke with pentious is conceptually awful, and angel's character development is badly handled in every way. he's rejecting drugs and standing up to valentino out of absolutely nowhere, and it's presented as if husk is the primary reason for his progress, which is bad for all sorts of reasons. i've talked about why the b-plot is so bad already, i think, so i don't want to ramble on about it too long.

the overall pacing of the season (ep1-3 taking place over 2 weeks, ep4 taking place somewhere between 2 weeks-almost 5 months later, and ep5-6 taking place 5 months later) is also the worst i've ever seen.

idk what happened with the writing but it's bad.

hello, what would you say to someone who very much thinks about stepping away from the renewal movement bc our fandom keeps being associated with slavery, racism and zionism? and people just take it at word value and feel morally better that they don't consume that media taika did while probably watching 1665 tv shows from disney and mcu. i do not care to be associated with zionists and racists and be told i ship slave owners, but everyone outside of fandom seems to have made up their mids and i don't need my tweet in supoort of a silly tv show i love to be used in some ofmd guys are dicks bullying campaign

Oh boy. I don't typically delve into this because I'm cautious about saying the right/wrong thing and being misconstrued. But I'll do my best*. Let's break this down:

Slavery - I understand people are uncomfortable with the show depicting characters based on real life pirates who were connected to slavery in the 1700s, and that is incredibly valid. If someone doesn't want to interact with the show because of that, that's fine! It's great! However, the show basically takes the idea of these pirates and makes them into entirely new characters which never themselves touch on the idea of slavery. The show depicts itself as pretty anti-slavery given the immediate violence that occurs against people who are racist to the non-white characters (Officer Whatever getting knifed after calling Frenchie slave, Abshir and the servants helping burn down the French ship and leaving happily with money after one of them called them "my Africans", which, yes EW, but was very pointedly saying he was wrong). I will also say to the slavery point that kids play pirates/love pirate stuff, people don't tell them not to because the real Blackbeard was involved in that? Idk, please take my opinion here with a grain of salt (and I'm very willing to be wrong on this) but it seems a bit...reactionary to say the show is pro-slavery.

Same goes for racism - MOST of the actors and characters are not white in this show, and that I think is portrayed very well through many different backgrounds. And as I just mentioned, every time a character is racist, they almost immediately get their comeuppance. Stede never treats any of his crew in any way which is racist, and the one time he and Pete are racist towards the Indigenous tribe, they're called out on it explicitly and never do that again.

Zionism....sigh. This is unfortunately a loaded argument these days. Yes, Taika signed a letter that said "give the hostages back". Taika is also half-Jewish and describes himself as a Jewish Polynesian man. At the time the letter was making the rounds, October 7th had just happened, and a very real, terrible kidnapping/murder of roughly 1,000 people happened, which is shocking and terrible to see as a Jewish person. It was the deadliest day for Jews since the Holocaust. Of course that does not excuse the >20,000 Palestinians who have been killed. Absolutely not.

Taika also gets a lot of unnecessary shit because people just don't like him and want to find some moral high ground to stand on and berate fans of his work with. I'm Taika neutral, but the more hate he gets the more I'm willing to back him because it's waaaaay disproportionate to anything he actually says. Plus, many, MANY actors on the show are openly pro-Palestine, and those people are close with Taika (see: Vico), so I'm very against the idea that OFMD is zionist? At least, I don't see how it can be any worse than any other piece of media those screaming about hating OFMD watch.

So, ending my ramble....I say do it anyway. You can't please everyone. People on the internet are mean. You don't know them, and they don't know you. They probably haven't seen the show and are dogpiling, because that's what people on the internet do. In addition, the renew as a crew movement has raised money for Palestine and for other charities close to the shows themes - LGBTQ+ youth and rights and amputees come to mind from what I've seen over the past few days. All extra money from the renewal campaign is going to charity. Everyone I know who donated and emails Zaslav and Co are also active in the campaign for a ceasefire, calling reps and MPs, being loud on other sources.

I'm sorry if this didn't make much sense and if anything I said was wrong. Again, very willing to listen and dialouge on any of it. As always, my DMs are open.

*Please note that I am a white American who lives in Canada and was raised Catholic (although in a very Jewish area with many Jewish friends so I do have a lot of background on Judaism, but again am not Jewish so), therefore I don't want to speak over anyone more qualified on any of these matters.

Mirror world concept drawings that I might mess around with and change later if I come back and realize I don't like them for whatever reason.

Notes on them and stuff like that under the cut bc. Well. Brainrot.

Shadow Marx is. Something. He made his wish for power and got his ass kicked like his non-mirror counterpart, but he's? Surprisingly not too fucked up from it? At least not in noticeable ways.

Whereas Marx won't really say much in terms of Weird Shit, Shadow Marx will just casually say the most vaguely threatening stuff and then just go back to doing whatever he was doing. The guy has zero filter and will just. Say his thoughts out loud no matter how absurd they are. Shadow Magolor has (mostly) learned to tune this out.

Shadow Marx's wings are more similar to Marx Soul's wings in terms of detailing. I didn't draw them here but they will feature in other drawings I may or may not have planned.

Shadow Marx is a lot more genuinely friendly than his counterpart. Sure, he's still an absolute bastard, but he does actually care about the people in the Mirror World. He's just got a weird way of showing it. (Very Dangerous Pranks)

Shadow Marx has blown himself up on more than one occasion while testing a mechanism for a prank.

Shadow Marx's body destabilizes easily, and as a result, you can see where he tends to split more easily than you can on Marx. It looks more like a seam on a plush toy than a scar, though.

Shadow Magolor is really only on Mirror Popstar because he didn't have much of anywhere else to go. While he lives on the Mirror Dimension's Lor Starcutter, he can't go anywhere without Lor's agreement. Which is difficult, considering the ship is surprisingly adamant on staying on Mirror Popstar.

Shadow Magolor wound up on Mirror Popstar when he decided to take Shadow Marx back to his home planet after he was blown up and the Lor just. Wouldn't move after that.

Cue Shadow Marx being absolutely ecstatic because not only is Shadow Magolor still going to be around, but they can also live together!

Partly because Shadow Marx does not want to explain to his ma how he survived being blown up because that would be a conversation and a half.

Shadow Magolor is in over his head here. Someone help him.

In all honesty, Shadow Marx reminds Shadow Magolor of a family member he hasn't seen since he was a little kid.

While Magolor is a very tidy person, both in his living space and his appearance, Shadow Magolor is a mess, for lack of a better word. It's mostly that he hardly has much energy to do more than keep himself from crashing into things and keep what's visible passably clean.

This is partly due to him using most of his magical energy on spells to keep Shadow Landia from reaching him with the power of the crown. He's unaware that the reason the Lor won't leave Popstar is because they're out of range there. The Lor tries to tell him this, but with it communicating via hearts (and Magolor's being very much closed off after losing or losing contact with most of his family), it's difficult to be on the same page with a lot of things.

Even with the spells, Shadow Magolor finds himself dealing with anxiety relating to being reached. Manifesting primarily in flashes of light like the ones that would occur when Landia would try contacting him when he lived on Halcandra.

Shadow Marx is one of the only people Shadow Magolor trusts to tell him Shadow Landia isn't contacting him. Mostly because he knows Shadow Marx isn't joking by the way he doesn't smile. And he always smiles unless he's being genuinely serious.

Shadow Magolor likes messing with the little magic he has leftover after his daily casting, though this usually ends up with him collapsing and having to sleep more, which he hates.

Both Magolor and Shadow Magolor have night terrors regarding their experiences with the Master Crown, though Shadow Magolor has never been in direct contact with it. Shadow Landia being awake most of the time made it difficult to even get near Haldera Volcano back when he lived on Halcandra.

Often gets himself injured while messing around with machinery or a new project he's working on.

The fur beneath Shadow Magolor's hood and cloak is matted terribly. He doesn't have the time or energy to fix it, though. Nor does he trust anybody he knows to do it for him.

Shadow Marx prefers to carry things in his mouth over his talons. Mostly because his wings being out uses magical energy and he doesn't want to risk his body totally destabilizing in the Lor again.

Shadow Magolor mostly speaks in halcandran, though he does use standard with those who don't speak halcandran.

Shadow Marx learned halcandran mostly by trial and error because he really wanted Shadow Magolor to think he was cool for learning a new language on the fly. Shadow Magolor is honestly too tired to care though.

Neither Marx nor Magolor have met their mirror counterparts, but I feel like they'd get along at least decently.
