So many readers are so hung up on disliking endeavor on a personal level that they discredit his writing as a character, it’s also weird to see how people feel the need to preface that they don’t condone him/his abuse before they talk about his writing positively what happened to nuance what happened to media literacy

jing yuan and yanqing are giving zhongli and xiao if the latter’s canon relationship was Actually fanon’s made up father figure/adopted child dynamic
#idkkkkkkkkkkkkk who looks at zx and is like 'you know what. this is a healthy parent child relationship'#like girl by fitting them into father son boxes you are actively making their relationship imbalance Worse#if you do that and dont shy away from it i respect that but if you say dad/son makes their relationship more wholesome or whatever like WHY#now i wont deny shippers might do that too but i see the dad son version so much i think im just averse to it by default#also because i think father son makes people actively Try to make their relationship something that its not and it erases a bunch of subtlet#subtleties in it. it's the nuanced r/ship -> entirely unproblematic and flavorless r/ship that i hate#also the number of people who'll block if you ship zx. like damn thats crazy you guys really think theyre father son (fake)???#at their peak they're like. 4000 year old guys who have too much history and repression and some weird entanglement of 'nah im bothering him#too much' and 'gotta protect him w my life' complexes. and then this devolves into theyre never gonna kiss until 3000 more years have passed#listen they just Contain Multitudes idc if you dont ship it just dont make it into dad and son and we will be so gucci#jing.yuan and yanqing are like different i think mostly bc yanqing is actually like a minor and jing yuan is also a normal ish person#plus the light cone and the abouts?? yeah this is an actual like adopted parent/child thing#also good or bad news i caved and am now playing hsr. the plan is to pull yanqing and then go on infinite hiatus in the game 👍#JWKFLJWEK i dont think theres really any draws for me besides him. personally neutral on turn based combat and the open world isn't giving#the only saving grace i have rn is 1) ive gotten to the part where bron.seele is real and man theyre gay 2) trailblazer trio 3) tall female#mc 4) everyone has way better emoting abilities than genshin 5) su.shang's really cute <3#the story doesnt really interest me though its like cool but not mindgrippingly interesting#tbf i think genshin is the same way storyline wise (at the beginning) but the difference is that turn based combat isnt really my thing LMAO#ramblings!#zhongxiao#if you want to filter it out ??

Ok Ok so I've been thinking this for. quite a while like even before Stolen Heir was released. it's kind of controversial because I might be making mountain out of a molehill but -
I think Jurdan fans border on being disrespectful to Holly Black at times... the problem isn't what one chooses to focus on even though that annoys me too, like it's not like people can control the fact that they focus more/love a character more than the other. But I'm starting to see this especially on Instagram and Goodreads, and I think I have good reason to believe HB is more active on insta and Goodreads is like, the book reviewing site, if there's any place she may look for comments or critique it's that.
and my problem lies with the language used . HB can announce she's working on something and can give hints about it and I've seen soo many people just outright tell her "I don't care about [x] and [y] just give me JURDAN!!" or anything along that vein , there's also "I'm only reading this for Jurdan lol I kind of couldn't care less about []".
It genuinely annoys me a lot !! And I wish I could say to each their own but ykw? At some point it starts to feel like if these two characters aren't involved people don't even try to make an effort to connect with the other characters, the new protagonist, etc. To be honest your page was a breath of fresh air because I don't even see a lot of folks focus on ANYTHING in TFOTA other than this ship.
There's also the irony that so many people pride themselves on loving Jude, their morally grey female rage character, but refuse to discuss Taryn with nuance. Or Vivi, sometimes. It's weird how so many people love Madoc (justified, I like him too) then refuse to think that hey, maybe Taryn's way of coping with faerie is different than Jude and that affects her actions! something something fandom misogyny
The above unrelated paragraph is just to say that a Nicasia focused book is something many people just absolutely will not be able to handle lmao and I so dearly wish Jude and Cardan's 'screentime' is few and far in between just so that it's less palatable. But oh well.
(And after Prisoner's Throne it worries me because with the implication that the Nicasia focused book might have Jude and Cardan POVs I feel like she's catering more to these people now.
If that's how things turn out that would genuinely make me really sad because I didn't pick up her books after reading TCP, I started with Spiderwick Chronicles, then Modern Faerie Tales, and I love the way she creates atmosphere, her worldbuilding, her depiction of the weird and creepy and magical. I especially think that's her strongest suit, more than characterization, so something like this that hinges more on specific characters genuinely turns me off.)
AGREED SO MUCH WITH ALL OF ITTT I too noticed the really dumb people in her comments crapping on everything that isn't a new Jurdan book... Like, the woman was writing books and enjoyed fame 15 years before Jurdan happened. She obviously has a lot to say about her world. Why the hell would you want her to stop developing it and only focus on 2 characters??? I was a big Spiderwick fan as a kid, and when I read TFOTA I had no idea it was by the same writer but I could TELL the vibes were all there. I too think that is her specialty and I'd rather get 10 stories on different characters than 5 on Jurdan.
I want the Undersea book to be about Nicasia and part of it is because I agree, I think most of the fandom would HATE it and it would fry their brains, and I want to see it. It is dumb and petty of me, but it would be sweet vindication for all the clowns screaming into my ear that Taryn is problematic actually in case I didn't notice. Ultimately I know it is a fruitless endeavor. TFOTA has the misfortune of being too good and complicated for its main audience of tiktok book fans, but also too bad and simplified to spread into more general, unspecified fantasy circles where its themes could catch the attention of people who would know how to appreciate them. That means there is only a small portion of fans who both like the books AND have the critical thinking skills to appreciate all the things they do right outside of romance/basic female wish fulfilment.
In the end, judging by TPT, we are gonna have to take the L and accept we bet on the wrong horse and minority does not make the money. But at least we will be there together to make a mountain out of a molehill!

wife & I finally watched Killing Eve, and I am just utterly 🤯 by how much of myself I see in Villanelle. the nuances of her reactions, her sense of humor, interpersonal relating, etc., all of it is genuinely deeply relatable. it's the first time I've ever actually truly related to a fictional character overall, rather than just 1 or 2 aspects of a character. as weird as it sounds, it feels like actually very wholesome representation? honestly, I've never really understood why people get attached to fictional characters and even kind of used to make fun of it. I never felt like there was much to relate to. but my wife and I both see it, this dude they consulted for her on-screen character obviously really knows his shit (yeah, this dude, fucking somehow).
Tumblr media
him???? kinda pissed ngl. and I'm definitely gonna contact him lmao
but it's undeniable. it's most clear in the subtlest little moments, the little things she does like dumping salt on the curly fries she's sharing with Eve as a playful reaction to an "offensive" joke, the pranks she plays on Konstantin, the things she finds funny, the lack of response when her life is in danger, being ambivalent about prison. and of course the bigger things are just as accurate, and so much better done than any other media portrayal I've seen before. the constant need for escalating stimulation, the s-tier "commitment to the bit" regardless of the situation, the curiosity about herself, the boredom and resulting curiosity about the "normal" human experience & wondering if you can be like them - maybe even convincing yourself for a while, the truth of having some people truly matter to you but at the end of the day you know you're still able to hurt them, the enjoyment of social game-playing - specifically with others who are also knowingly playing social chess* (manipulating unaware people is not entertaining & frankly reminds me of the ways men tend to seek affirmation of their power/superiority by "punching down").
*and enjoying working + thriving in fields where this is required of EVERYONE
I'm posting this a bit late at night in the hopes it's mostly seen by the mutuals who actually come to my blog not just see this on dash, bc this /is/ weird as fuck for me & I'm not super stoked about EVERYONE seeing this, but I have made a commitment on here to challenge myself with consistent and total honesty to the best of my ability. it /is/ disorienting and exciting in its own odd way. but I'm not sure I hate it.
oh, and in s4 when she kills a bunch of women's abusers? the implication throughout the show that she DOES feel some type of way about (at least) 1 moral issue - misogyny? fuck OFFFFF bro wtffff

I have several questions in just one ask for you.
I think sakura is a fujoshi too lmao did u see her reaction to the boy on boy action? Idk about hinata, but as u said she n sakura forced sasuke and naruto to marry them, even though hinata knows too little of naruto to know hes gay.
naruto and sasuke love each other, there was no one around in sasukes confession, why not say, hey i like you in 'that' way, usuratonkachi? Just confessing, no need to start dating yknow.
There are lots of gay portrayals in shounen now, it wasnt there b4. So kishi couldve let it out anyway right? In interviews and all, but no he has to label them as more bros than blood bros, spitting on the subtle purpose of his story, making his audience get it wrong. Whats the point of writing a love story when hes giving gods word that it is a story about two brothers?
Why WHY did he have to make them reincarnated brothers?
thats all, have a good day sneeze! Sorry if i loaded u up, but i see longer asks sent to u, so it wont be a problem right?
Hi. Hope you have a good day as well. Long ask isn't a problem.
1) Sakura is not a fujoshi, just a hormonal boy crazy girl. I have talked about it here.
2) It's not really a confession, it's Sasuke's thoughts. It doesn't matter whether anyone was around Sasuke's confession. Because the point was that Kishi could not have made his main characters confess their love explicitly in the manga. But it doesn't matter, because he did so much else. SO MUCH. And that is enough. Anyway, the ending was supposed to be tragic so as to facilitate the story line of Boruto, as in with the new generation kids. Naruto and Sasuke were never supposed to end together once Boruto went on board. If it weren't for Boruto, it would have been open ended, and the takeaway/impression would have certainly been that they did end up together. So you can take some comfort in that, but if you can't, I will understand.
3) Most people feel miserly about that one interview where Kishimoto called them blood brothers. But ignore the nuance of the whole piece.
Tumblr media
Look how much he is struggling to explain their relationship. The interviewer was being quite assertive about getting his answer too. I am telling you, Kishi was sweating balls here. He couldn't have revealed the actual nature of their bond, and like I said, a lot of people can tell what the story was about. Like this interviewer. Who is being cautious but smart. Kishi is talking about loneliness and abandonment. Both Naruto and Sasuke suffered from it. Kishi finds it hard to put in words but he is trying to explain the underlying feeling of it anyway. It's not hard to see.
Tumblr media
Look at this. Don't you find it weird that there is SO damn much conversation around defining this relationship? It's there in the manga in a major way and it's there in the interviews because that's what the manga is about. Kishi is explaining how some bonds are taken for granted because they already have quite a strong impression in the intuitive memory of the audience. Like bonds of family. Like Sasuke and Itachi. You can tell in a story who is family. But the bond between Naruto and Sasuke is hard to explain no? Even Sasuke wants to know the answer! Lol. And he gets it, in the end. Friendship is hard to explain, he says. And yet a lot of characters were pointedly portrayed as friends. Like Shikamaru and Chouji. Properly emphatically friends. Kakashi and Obito. Jiraiya and Tsunade, Inoichi and Shikaku, Lee and Neji, Ino, Shikamaru and Chouji.
All FRIENDS. And we got it very easily too. What he found difficult to explain was the 'friendship' between Naruto and Sasuke. Naruto keeps calling him friend. But obviously, Sasuke isn't satisfied. Again, until the end. Like the audience can obviously tell that when Naruto goes absolutely berserk at the mere name of Sasuke, or that Sasuke gives up his life for a person he didn't even like apparently, yeah that stuff is beyond friendship. Audience isn't dumb. Well not all.
One doesn't really have to go interview hunting to find the veracity of Naruto and Sasuke's love. It's all in the manga. It's the real source. But if you have to refer to the interviews, don't ignore the rest of them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Everything depends on how Kishi is able to put their relationship into words. Hmm. He did. He didn't have to make them say 'I love you, let's date'. He made them say different words that were much more significant, that made more sense with them, that matched the quality, nuance and emotional heights of their love. Kishi does stress on the importance of words and communication though. I have talked about it here.
Love triangle? Yes, in team seven. Both Naruto and Sakura like Sasuke romantically. Naruto experienced love and became an adult, he surely did. Thanks to Sasuke. It was his memory and Naruto's feelings for him that goaded him to become stronger and more mature and determined af. It isn't a coincidence vote two was right after it was revealed that it was Naruto's seventeenth birthday, he has literally and metaphorically come of age. And then he tells Sasuke again how much he loves him, how he really truly felt about him. In chapter 698. And Sasuke concedes, he is finally at peace, now that he has heard it from Naruto's own mouth. It was important for him to know these 'words'. Words are what gave him his resolution. Naruto's words that he couldn't very well say before.
Kishi was writing this story at a time when it was not acceptable in shounen to have major gay characters. I don't think that's the case today either. Although what we do know is that Naruto anime did try to hetishize Naruto and tried to distract from many sus scenes by adding non canon stuff to it. From Wiki.
Tumblr media
Especially not the MC. Naruto is supposedly the first shounen MC to have kissed another boy on the mouth. In canon. This was written under the facade of comedy, as a lot of scenes were especially with Naruto, Kishi had to find a way to create smokescreens and red herrings so as not to get caught red handed. It's not an easy job for the writer to do this and make it believable and effective and so impactful. The average shounen consumer was happy with it, those who looked for a fuller and more layered approach, and complexity in their media also loved it. There was something for everyone in it. This was no easy feat. This takes real talent. And kishi was motivated to do it and how. And he did it too. But it wasn't smooth as butter. He had to fight his editors several times on multiple scenes. Like the reverse oiroke jutsu you are talking about. Very sus, wasn't it? It was meant to be. Or the fight at the vote two. He didn't compromise with his story to the best of his ability. But imagine the pressure he was under. We need to dig a little deeper. It's never that black and white. If it was that bad, then it is safe to assume that Kishi didn't feel comfortable revealing the nature of their relationship explicitly. A lot of artists have gotten canceled or blacklisted for less. Plus, if the gay tones were so overt, the anime would have faced difficulties getting distributed in other countries, mainly North America, because of their syndication rules. From Wiki.
Tumblr media
And I have a feeling that Kishi was also reticent because of his own orientation. There has been much debate on this. But I strongly suspect that Kishi relates with Naruto's character. He has said it himself that he sees himself in Naruto. Naruto is his projection, self insert. And Sasuke is his muse, the classic archetypical, dreamy, beautiful but deadly bishounen, that everyone desires, including men. Like Sasuke has been clearly depicted. And I think Kishi is in a similar predicament as Naruto.
4) Naruto and Sasuke are not reincarnated brothers. It's their chakra. That doesn't make them brothers. How exactly does that make them brothers? Where does Kishi make anyone say it or imply it? Madara and Hashirama also had Ashura's and Indra's chakras but people are okay with calling them gay for each other. They were also given very homoerotic scenes. Just like Sasuke and Naruto. But the same people who deny SNS ship Hashimada lol. Unfair, isn't it? They have the special chakras because they are the fated saviours of their world. That reincarnated chakras make them brothers, though is already a ridiculous argument, in no universe cancels out the rest of the story. That's not how it works. The point is Sasuke and Naruto were written as main act of the story. This was the main act, vote two. You know which other thing has a main act just like Shippuden? This.
A double suicide narrative was already in the making, and then Kishi makes sure that his main act is the same as the main act of Chikamatsu's shinjuu plays. Chikamatsu is considered as one the greatest, most prolific playrights Japan has ever produced. His work is pretty much a part of the cultural and literary imagination of Japan. Kishi wanted to pay homage to him, like many other modern Japanese creators.
The main act comes at the end, led by everything that has happened before. The hero and heroine have already tried everything else. But in the main act, they die together after the most profoundly emotional interaction/depiction that rends your heart. Although, in Kishi case, they think they are dead, but they aren't. They live. Kishi had already thought of this ending panel by panel and line by line many years before chapter 698 was published. Hehe. Writers are serious about these things, they have to be isn't it? It's their job. Anyway, that's how crazy this man is. And I love him for it. Don't underestimate him. He did a lot for fans. He is a wonderful artist. He had to give up at the end. And it sucks. But he did his best.
Hopefully this answers your questions.

Tumblr media
Cutting from Dark's tantrum, it becomes evidently obvious Dark isn't angry at Shadow in the way he's seen people show anger.
Smth to consider:
Everyone who's angry so far has been...Explosive. (Vio is like, the only one who's just been steadily annoyed.)
Blue and Shadow both get pretty explosive when they're mad, Vaati too. So...Dark doesn't have much to go off of in the way of nuance in showing he's angry/mad at someone.
Literally zero to one hundred.
Dark even outright asks Shadow Link "Am I mad at you" likely because he's just...kind of mad Shadow and Vio are close and he's jealous but Dark's understanding of his OWN emotions are basically none.
He's even "Embarrassed" and thinks he should have looked at Blue's memories to get a better grasp on anger.
Don't do it Dark-
Dark's flip flopping between his attempts to show anger and his natural mellow personality is night and day.
Switching to having sharp teeth again to reflect Shadow Link.
Tumblr media
1st panel is pretty evident: He's just saying shit that Blue has been feeling lmao.
Dark again speaks in the 3rd person here. Twice now it's been used to try and speak about himself from someone else's perspective.
Vio's afraid of him, but the previous time he did it, his "Yay Dark Link" line if you remember was smth he WANTED Vaati to feel about him.
Shadow is rightly confused as HELL about what Dark is even talking about. Dark not so casually does conform though he was the one who was messing with Vio earlier.
The three panels of Dark's face are some of my favorites because it shows just how little this conversation matters to him from a serious angle.
His act of being pissed breaks immediately with his inability to hold back a grin at how silly he feels he's acting at the moment.
Dude's having a fun time but Shadow's patience has run dry and he snaps at Dark to "just answer me!"
While the Triforce of power glows.
This makes Dark stop what he's doing and freeze up.
Tumblr media
I'm sure this page confused people. Because it's kinda. Weird.
Dark stops talking and is just frozen up.
Shadow doesn't just ask him a question, but an outright demand while his Triforce glows.
Dark starts screaming with a terrified look on his face and elaborates plainly what he's doing there, he covers his own mouth quickly after.
Shadow's disturbed by this interaction and looks down at the Triforce on his hand.
So basically if you were wondering:
Shadow made Dark talk here, albeit on accident using the power of the Triforce.
Which is why Dark started screaming and twitching because he had no choice but to respond.
Tumblr media
With his autonomy ripped away from him Dark is rightfully terrified of Shadow Link.
His fear is so strong he holds his hat close to himself for comfort and hides his face, apologizing his loyalties lie with Vaati and not Shadow Link.
Shadow tries in vain to clear up the identity confusion.
Tumblr media
Okay but from Dark's perspective "Gannon's" just being a lying weirdo. X'D
Dark knows "The truth" and he can't really comprehend why "Gannon" is still keeping up the lie that he's a different person asking plainly if Shadow's afraid Dark wont' like him.
Shadow's obviously very fed up, reminding the audience and Dark that he has no fucking clue who Dark even is at this point.
Fun thing about the panel where Dark mimics Shadow's face, the panel of annoyed Shadow and the panel proceeding it both share some line art. X'D
Dark was "mimicing" again but goes right back to his actual feelings.
He doesn't actually care about Shadow's identity crisis at all when it comes to not telling anyone else about it. Stuttering while he talks.
He's confused why Shadow gets to "Lie" in this instance but Vio's lies were bad and deserving of anger.
Keep Dark's confusion over lying in mind.
2nd to last panel talk:
Shadow just, has no idea how to deal with this dude.
Like it's evident Shadow has a hard time keeping up with Dark's nonsense but it's REALLY evident there.
"Wtf is he talking about?" face is pretty funny.
Dark being shocked they might hate Shadow more for lying than being Gannon is a fun assumption on Dark's part, leading Shadow to ask outright
"Are you trying to give me advice???"
From Shadow's perspective, it sure does seem like Dark is trying to give him advice. X'D When Dark is just saying how he feels.
Tumblr media
Fun questions from Dark...
If Shadow can "Switch around what you are" ...a phrase that's very up for debate wtf he actually meant by that statement,
Can Dark do it too?
Shadow seems to take it as Dark asking if he could be a good guy too, and says "yeah sure why not".
Whatever Dark DID mean by that, he seems to take Shadow's reply well and laughs to himself about it with a very pleased expression on his face.
Keep that, in mind.
Dark sits back down and asks Shadow a pretty...weird question.
"Do you think Vio will still want your kisses if he knows who you are, King Shadow Link?"
Again showing Dark's focus is on really random things that pertain to his interests. Because he doesn't ask Shadow if Vio will TRUST HIM, or still LOVE HIM, or even if he'll still want to be his friend.
He asks if Vio will still kiss him.
Which is like, super specific.
When Shadow's like "idk"
he gets giddy and resounds Shadow FOR SURE should tell him the truth.
Why?
Tumblr media
Well that face really says it all.
Dark in some way thinks Shadow would be an obsticle to Vio's affection... HUh.
Wonder where he got that from...
Cough cough BLUE-
This line is the nail in the coffin for Shadow as he's full blown pissed off now.
Dark's perpetual jabs at Vio have finally made him crack.
There's for sure a hint of jealousy in Shadow's actions too.
Dark exhaling pollen as he sighs is probs only amusing to me.
His SASS in the words "...Is FIGHTING all you two know how to do?"
Clearly referencing Vaati in this statement, clear annoyance in his face.
Dark is already fed up with both Shadow and Vaati's quickness to fight at the drop of the hat.
Dark does take up his gigantic sword and gets ready to fight.
His lines are pretty telling about how he feels this is an obligation to make Shadow Link "have fun".
"...If you have fun, at least that'll make one of us...right?" - Dark finds fights boring and meaningless and really doesn't wanna do this, but since it'll make Shadow "have fun" he's up for playing along.
The eye on his chest looks distinctly bored with this as well.
his next line is kinda, weird.
"If we win, we get to celebrate...so there's that...yay..."
This line is meant to be in reference to Vio and Green's fight, and how afterwards Shadow and Vio celebrated.
His little "...I'm trying to get excited about it" explains his little "yay" to hype himself up.
Tumblr media
Dark focuses on defense in this fight for the most part, blocking Shadow's attacks.
"Are you having fun yet? Can we stop soon?"
Dark's really not feeling this fight and just wants it to be over.
He takes another page out of Vio's book an tries to make his opponent unable to fight.
In this case, he disarms Shadow by parrying his sword out of his hands.
Dark's murderous expression paired with Shadow's face reflecting in his blade is a pants crapping image if you were in Shadow's shoes I'm sure but for the audience it's cool as hell.
Tumblr media
Dark, again, had the chance to hurt someone majorly and chose not too.
Which really reflects the kind of person he actually is I feel.
Dark chooses to give mercy to people.
He just lets Shadow fall onto his ass.
Though, don't get Dark's question mixed up. X'D
He did not ask Shadow "Did that hurt?" out of kindness or concern. He asked it out of genuine curiosity.
Tumblr media
Shadow has a second of hesitation before slamming that sword full force into Dark.
Ouch.
Dark had a hard time with that swing.
His continuous mumbling about how he really doesn't want to fight are just kinda sad.
The visual of Dark swinging this huge ass sword around, and trying to balance again once he got Shadow off him is so oddly cute.
Shadow reflects on how he's filling the role as the "bad guy" here because of Dark's behavior as well get into with the next page.
Tumblr media
I mean. He's right.
Dark's just defending himself against Shadow's attacks. He's not trying to hurt Shadow.
Not actually attacking or retreating is gonna wind up in Dark getting hurt, so Shadow wonders if this is the right choice, considering his options.
If Dark was fighting back, this would be an easier moral fight. But Dark isn't. He's just defending himself or disarming Shadow so Shadow can't try to hurt him.
Dark being a moral mess to deal with is a continuous theme...
As Dark's behavior leads him to be very hard to deal with as an enemy or an alley.
Shadow decides that he IS gonna fight Dark still but gets rudely interrupted by a flashbang.
Ouch. Not the eyes.
Dark covering his chest eyeball. Ouch.
Tumblr media
Shadow cowering in the Shadows lmfao. Poor dude.
Poor dark has 3 eyes that got hurt in that nonsense. Vaati's team spirit just ain't there.
It's a sad thing to consider Dark has gotten almost nothing but pain in his short time existing as a conscious individual.
Vaati very rudely grabs Dark's face in a very possessive manor. Because he sucks. XD He lumps in Shadow Link with Link in how the curse functions... which Dark tries to interject with...Something, but Vaati tells him to "Stfu"
Their interaction through this whole thing is just...This: X'D
Tumblr media
Vaati is very sick of Dark speaking, at all. So just tells Dark to be quiet.
The repeated idea of Dark not liking lies/people misinterpreting things is just a thing to note.
Tumblr media
Vaati thinks he can get hooked up with 2 evil Links.
Little does he know-
Ya know we'll get back to that...
I just wanna point out to the audience:
Shadow is a huge dick here.
In trying to insult Vaati and built himself up he just tore Dark down which clearly hurt Dark's feelings.
There was no need to say that Shadow. 😭
Oh but there was...
To show the audience Shadow's still a bit of a douche bag...
Tumblr media
Dark mimicking Vaati's pissed off expression is so funny to me and only me.
I know like, NONE of yall read the pillowfort excusive comic.
But it's cannon Dark's ears are ticklish so that's why he laughed when Vaati whispered to him.
He gets more serious when he realizes Vaati's sayin' smth important and whispers back.
What Vaati and Dark are implied to have said I'll get into in the next page.
Tumblr media
Shadow ain't a fan of the secrecy.
Turns out Dark just told Vaati what he saw.
Which was smooching and hugging lmfao.
Vaati proceeds to laugh his ass off about affection he'll never receive.
Dark is utterly confused about being patted on the head.
Dark just sits there thinking to himself over what Vaati's saying + Vaati's action.
Tumblr media
Welp. Vaati's being a dick.
Dark plays with Vaati's hair idly while he talks shit.
And we get to a very hilarious panel imo. Dark hugging Vaati and Vaati being utterly disgusted with the action.
Thoughts:
Why did Dark hug Vaati?
Well there's a few reasons he could have
He could have KNOWN it made Shadow jealous. He took Dark rubbing his head as clearance they can touch each other just fine. He just likes Vaati and wants to touch him.
Shadow's blatant jealousy isn't missed by Vaati either.
Just gonna point out, the background hue keeps shifting to match emotions.
Purple for fear, red for anger and the green for jealousy.
Tumblr media
Vaati's an asshole so he rubs Dark's head in an attempt to make Shadow jealous further.
Vaati is nothing if not an emotional manipulator.
Dark appreciates the head scritches at least.
Again Vaati seems to get smth wrong, and Dark tries to correct him and gets cut off.
For shoving his finger in Dark's face Dark unceremoniously licks it.
Which is funny as hell to me, especially how one of Vaati's eyes glares at him for this but he's too busy trying to be manipulative to tell Dark off. X'D
The smug look on Dark's face would lead one to think he knows it pissed Vaati off that he did that. XD
Vaati's persuasion is shit, so Shadow sees right through it.
Tumblr media
Huh...Funny Shadow only seems to humanize Dark slightly when Vaati's abuse tactics used on Shadow are thrown back into his face on full display.
FuNNY HOW THAT WORKS.
Also Shadow's dialogue's important so I'll expand on it.
Him admitting he did shit wrong. Yay character growth. UwU
He can relate to being trapped. Bro was trapped in Link's shadow and SUFFERED so...it's safe to say he knows how Vaati's imprisonment feels.
Shadow dropping the "Family" muhahaha. He loves his dumbass boys. UwU
Vaati continues to suck.
The sudden gripping on Dark's shoulder makes Dark wince. Ouch.
Tumblr media
Omf. That line hurts.
Vaati and Shadow's relationship is one sided pain and hurt with the promise of love that never comes.
Shadow broke out of that cycle by breaking the mirror but still has to put up with Vaati's crap.
Dark views this with expectant eyes.
Vaati's monologue here just reflects his time after the events of the minish cap manga.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Shadow's response, my boy grew up lots.
He clearly feels bad Vaati went through that but say it with me
IT AIN'T HIS PROBLEM.
Tumblr media
Haha oh Shadow's words are very telling about how he feels about the past.
"Vio means it this time...right?"
His wants now are just stuff like "I wanna have a bed!"
reminder from the flashback he DIDN'T HAVE ONE.
He wants to spend time with Zelda and Link in a meaningful way.
visual references to BOTW Link and Tetra because muhahaha.
Shadow's words about "Failure" is kinda telling.
Being a villian in a Zelda story means you fail. The hero will virtually always defeat you and you'll be left with nothing but pain.
Shadow wants no part of that shit...
But his reasons is kinda...selfish?
He doesn't say "being bad is bad because you're bad!" he says "Fuck I don't wanna fail anymore."
He settles on a life he finds obtainable because Gannon and Vaati's dreams are INSANLY UNOBTAINABLE not because he doesn't want those things too.
Because let's be real if there were no consequences...Shadow would do whatever the fuck he wanted. XD
Tumblr media
Vaati's not the only one who can project! SHADOW CAN DO IT TOO.
Failing at the hands of the hero over and over is smth Shadow feels Gannon's emotions on. Dude is so sick of it.
Fun chameo from our favorite hero ever.
Navi.
Jk. Hero of Time...I'm sure he'll never be relevant ever again.
Shadow's acceptance of a lowkey life pisses Vaati off.
Tumblr media
The perpetual failures being slung in his face was just one too many.
Vaati's reached his limits of anger at both Dark and Shadow Link.
Tumblr media
Oh.
He didn't squeeze him like a squeaky toy this time...
If you're wondering "Why didn't Dark dodge?"
Last time Vaati carried Dark off and when he DID try to hurt Dark he tried to slam him into the ground, not CRUSH HIM.
Tumblr media
Dark didn't perceive being held alone by Vaati as a danger so didn't bother trying to escape.
Shadow's terror at this action like, really makes it sink in Vaati means business.
Tumblr media
Vaati's sick of everyone at this point omf. Dark just stays limp as hell which sucks for him.
Shadow channaling the power of the Triforce of power decides to fuck Vaati's shit up.
Tumblr media
This was 100% inspired by the Guardian/Blight lasers lmfao because that's FUNNY.
It really sucks to me we don't really see what the Triforce of Power's abilities...ARE.
So I'm just going with "Shit Gannon can do in other incarnations" because that's all I have to go off of. 🤷
"Turning the wieldier into a pig monster" was smth I saw but that only really happens to Gannon with the explanation that he's losing control over his piece and himself? So...Shadow switching to pig mode here wouldn't make much sense. X'D
And YAAAAY DARK LINK IS SAVED.
Due to pure selfishness on Shadow's part-
Okay look I'm not gonna sugar coat it.
Shadow didn't save Dark because he cares about who Dark is. He saved him because how Vaati treated HIM was being put onto Dark. Shadow's projecting to hell onto Dark due to the abuse he faced and ONLY helped him due to that reason.
Round about say to say: He doesn't pity Dark here, he pities himself.
Tumblr media
"That's not what matters right now." - Shadow said like a liar.
This wasn't a logical choice in the slightest and Shadow has no justification for his outburst in this regards because it was 100% anger at his own past abuse being slung in his face and has nothing to do with Dark the person being abused.
Shadow just as an afterthought asking if Dark is alright kinda sements that.
IMAGE LIMITS ARE SATAN'S MISTRESSES.
So I guess I'll pick this back up later.

i don't really know how to explain myself properly but i feel like some people are really concerned about Getting A Good Grade In Succession to the point where they've adopted a very cynical view of tg's relationship because being too earnest about them is ~not the point of the show~ or w/e. which is funny because every other relationship in the show is allowed to be nuanced but not theirs i guess? so you have people going "oh their relationship was only ever about them using each other from the start" when that's demonstrably not true and like. i have really mixed feelings about this season so far and i feel like anything could happen with them by virtue of weird writing choices and i hope with all my heart this doesn't end up being the case but even if the finale tries to diminish the depth of their relationship i don't understand the point of Us acting like there was never anything deeper there? but anyway, all this too say that i agree w/ you that the way people are very cynical and dismissive abt tg specifically has rubbed me the wrong way and thank u for your service ❤️
hiii sweet anon!
A GOOD GRADE IN SUCCESSION ASHAKJSA god honestly, i hear you.
i'm getting real tired of this "point of the show" shit bc it's like. just because tg isn't "the point", isn't a main focal plot [which it is, or at least is part of it], isn't integral to character development [which it is too; without tom greg would not be where he is now which is at a point where he actually could be seriously considered as a fucking CEO, without greg tom wouldn't have learned any self respect or self worth/we would never have been able to see him express himself beyond servitude towards shiv], it doesn't mean it can't be explored and considered as a serious part of the show?
media is created for us to enjoy. yes it's there to interpret and discuss but it doesn't always have to be that way? literally you can watch the show just for tomgreg and that is A OKAY. why? because you don't have to justify why you like something! surprise! and yeah i've noticed that too - other relationships get to be seen as nuanced, but not tg i guess. idk why, seeing as its dynamic is something to be studied under a microscope and fun to not only shippers but normies too lmao. clearly there is something more interesting to it than just, oh it's mutual corporate climbing.
exactly! there's even more contexts provided by the scripts, THE SACRED TEXTS lol that provide us with more knowledge and insight into the feelings of these characters, that show us that their relationship goes beyond using each other. there is an element of that of course, but that's not all they are. why reduce them to that when so very clearly on paper we are affirmed of what we thought we could read textually on the screen? it just baffles me.
i'm hoping too anon, like A Lot. from the looks of the trailer i have a. i have a little bit of hope. even if say, tom has to choose between greg and shiv, if he chooses shiv and has visible trouble with it, like it takes him time, it plagues him, it takes effort, it feels like a real decision affecting his life, like. that counts for something you know? that would, to me, not diminish his relationship with greg. obviously it would be heartbreaking after how loyal greg has been to tom, but the very fact that it would be difficult to tom would mean that greg is important to him in some fashion, and the show would be at least acknowledging it by doing that. like, it's that easy. i ain't asking for much. i know what i'd like, but what i would be satisfied/settle with, well i think the bar is reasonable, you know?
i'm glad you understand me! i mean, who knows maybe some of it is people trying to go on the defensive like, "it's the hope that kills you" so they are trying not to have any by lessening it, saying oh there was nothing there, there was no romance, nothing positive, it was all for mutual professional gain and that's it. but like, personally that doesn't work for me. i think you should at least acknowledge its importance otherwise we're regressing right back to the oh it's a mlm ship? never mind then. i'm not about that, i guess.
thanks for the message buddy god speed <3

That anon does have a point when saying that lots of Aemond x OC fics (especially where the OC is a daughter of Rhaenyra) use some of the same plot points for their made up character. For example they will have their OC, instead of Luke (sometimes he will not exist at all in the fics and she takes his place), be the one who takes Aemond's eye which is even more startling when, as an adult, he will hopelessly fall in love with OC, is ready to sacrifice everything, abandon his family and switch sides just to marry her something that will almost never happen in the opposite case. While yes, Aemond developing an obsession with the person who took his eye is very normal, falling in love is a totally different thing and seems forced and just…unrealistic? And it's very weird when you see team black stans complaining from time to time about the amount of Aemond fics on AO3 paired with a daughter of Rhaenyra's falling in love with him and betraying her side when 99% of the same fics are written by other team black fans and have Aemond doing the switching sides thing lmao.
Of course people are free to write whatever they want about fictional characters, but after a while these type of fics are quite tiring since they're following the same plot points and tropes, more or less: she takes his eye or defends her brother doing the same without even trying to understand Aemond's POV, is either a Strong or Daemon's bastard masquerading as a trueborn Velaryon, rides Vermithor or Cannibal and knows how to control them unlike Aemond, behaves and sounds like a modern day feminist or is a girlboss who, unlike all the other ladies, knows how to fight using a sword and so on while Aemond behaves like a dumb simp all the time and is constantly villainized by the narrative (as well as most of the commentators) for being a misogynist who hates seeing women in power because why is he not swearing allegiance to his half-sister in two seconds????!!! Not to mention that in most of those fics the greens are villainized to the point where they seem like cartoon characters, especially Alicent who is always characterized as the worst mother ever who doesn't love her children at all or as a religious extremist. I've had to quit reading some precisely because of reasons like these despite them being popular and amongst the fics that were very well written otherwise. Nowadays if I really want to read an Aemond/OC fic (or an Aegon one) I'd probably search and choose one in which the OC is a lady from some random house…at least with these ones you have a lesser chance of being disappointed down the road if you're a green fan.
oh definitely the aemond x oc fics really started to get very derivative after a couple of months and the template you provided is really spot-on. but those traitor!aemond fics (where luke is replaced by another black-aligned OC) were never really written by greens anyway, so it's funny that anon thought to complain about that in the askbox of a green account :)) i also noped out of quite a few fics when they started with the alicent-bashing, i just don't have the patience for that & it was rarely even nuanced criticism anyway, at least not in my travels
i don't really know what the state of the nation is nowadays, if lucemonds really discovered body horrror, but at the time i was complaining about it, their dead doves were, at most, ridiculous dungeon sex slave fics that would be on par, comedic-wise, with Unhinged by Vera Valentine or Stuffed by the Were-Turkey by Tate McKirk. and, like, good for you if you enjoy the silliness of it, bc it's never really that serious, but, equally, be aware that people are going to poke some lighthearted fun at you for it
the thing about lucemond is that, while there is definitely basis in the enemies-to-lovers trope or the idea of obsessing over your tormentor, at the end of the day they have to be honest with themselves and admit that they started shipping it after they watched hotd. it's an entirely show thing, no one shipped those two when only Fire & Blood existed. and, say what you will, but there is no shipping subtext in the show about this either, PLUS the visual discrepancy between the actors' ages makes it really not secksual at all. like, that is clearly a grown man and a barely pubescent teenager, there is no "story chemistry" to speak of :)) and i'm not even talking about the squeamish implications of that taboo topic, but there is 0 such <chemistry> or buildup in the text of FB and there is 0 in the media text of the two hotd episodes where both of them appear. not from the part of the actors and not from the part of the technical crew that filmed and edited it. i would love for someone to point out at least 1 such frame that indicated lust or longing or some kind of repressed romantic feeling. so it's only natural people are treating it as some kind of crackship.
anyway it's funny people are still in the grips of lucemond more than one year on. by all means do what you want, but, man, you gotta make some allowances for the goofiness of it all :))

everyone is involved in the discourse and i wanna be too lmao. on one hand, i’m rooting for satoru and oc. i really think their relationship was salvageable but when i think about it, this was two people who weren’t super in love from the beginning of their situation but tried to make things work. going from strangers to parents with barely any room to truly get to know each other…the relationship was doomed to be strained. satoru and naomi…she got the version of him i believe oc would have gotten had they had more time to flush out a genuine long-standing relationship before becoming parents. raising a baby while simultaneously trying to continuously assert your own identity within being a new parent is already complicated and leaves a lot of room for poor communication as individuals but factoring in a romantic relationship in there…it at times feels like they weren’t ready for each other. and they weren’t going to be ready until they found ways to be okay with this new self they had to become. a part of me feels like a lot of satoru’s attitude is just resentment. like they both love their child but i don’t know if either of them enjoyed parenthood. and that’s a weird hard thing to have to talk about. and it seems really easy to have either overflowing resentment or a complete withdrawal of yourself. ah, anyway i love the story. i don’t have kids but their dynamic has pushed me into really thinking about these types of nuanced, complicated relationships. like naomi! i personally love[d] her. she’s lost her way now, but i don’t believe it was ever her intent to try and replace oc. also! idk if it was your intention to make naomi out to be a almost villian specifically through oc’s perspective in the beginning but it’s very interesting watching her behavior as told through oc’s perception, feeling like great i’m gonna hate this girl and then her behavior as told through satoru’s which made me like her. the stuff with his mom tho. whew lmao. she really had me in the first half then ran straight off the field all together. like girl! what is you doin! where is you goin! this is assault!
hiiii, i enjoyed reading this, especially the part abt how naomi was written. yn doesn't see her as a 'villain', but she doesn't feel comfortable around her bc of how she is w her ex and her child. yn got insecurities which she thought naomi could easily feel and that's why it's painful for her to be around naomi. as for satoru,(before the SA thing), she's like a safe haven bc of how she was there when he was tired of everything going on between yn and him 🥹 i really like how u explained yn and satoru's rs. it's like they started in the middle part and all of it was overwhelming for them, making everything spin out of control so easily. like they didn't get a proper warm-up 😭 anyways thank u so much for this, it took a long time im sorry, but i truly appreciate it <33 have a nice day/night ~

I hated HIM soo much!! something about the way the authors wrote gay and bi people rubbed me the wrong way and I could never get over it. But I will say I loved heated rivalry (the game changers book) with my whole heart, even though the other books in the series were not for me. The main couple never reminded me of sid/ovi mainly because it’s impossible for me to visualize sidney crosby in any kind of sexual scenario :/
✨🌟💕💖HIM haters unite!!!💖💕🌟✨
scream, sorry to sidney crosby but this is so funny to me. i support you. you're so valid.
i told someone else that when i answered this ask that i'd elaborate a little on why HIM didn't work for me, but i'm going to put that stuff under a cut in case there are secret HIM fans on here who are getting really tired of me dragging a book they like, lmao.
ok so it has been a while since i read it so i might not remember all the details, but here were my biggest turn-offs for that book. some of these are things i would let slide if other parts of the book were better. like, i WILL let clunky writing slide if the story/characters are really good (but if the story/characters are also bad i just get more pissy about it the more i read). some of these though... eesh.
the writing. sorry, the writing was not very good!! if i am reading a book and i can't stop line-editing in my head as i go, the story is gonna have to do some really heavy lifting to win me over. the worst part for me was how there were a whole bunch of instances where i would read a sentence and go "hm, that's a weird word choice" because the word choices were just like... slightly off of what they were probably supposed to mean? like someone had pulled then from a thesaurus without actually understanding the nuance in meaning between the synonyms. it was really distracting.
the pacing/worldbuilding. this book constantly did the thing where it introduced a person, place, or concept the moment it became important instead of building those things into the story along the way so that when they became important it didn't feel like it was being made up on the spot. once again, really distracting!
the protagonists. the first few chapters made an attempt at developing distinct voices for the two protagonists but that was all out the window by like a quarter of the way through. they had minor personality differences but other than that were near-identical cringeworthy sports bro stereotypes.
the way every woman was treated in the story???? gross
the way bisexuality was treated in the story?????? GROSS
the HOCKEY. this book actually lulled me into a sense of false security because the first few chapters did a decent job with the frozen four, but after that? absolute nonsense. the main characters are college prospects the summer before they go pro and the book had NO grasp of how that process looks or works. like for example one of them is a goalie and his big existential crisis is "i don't know if going pro will be worth it if i'm not immediately the starting goalie for the nhl team i sign with." WELL BUDDY YOU'RE NOT GONNA BE. BECAUSE OF HOW DEVELOPMENT WORKS. WHICH YOU AS A HOCKEY PLAYER AT THIS LEVEL WOULD DEFINITELY KNOW ABOUT. HOPE THIS HELPS. just, no idea how the player-agent relationship works, no idea how the agent-team relationship works, no idea how the prospect-team relationship works.
the sex scenes read like the author(s) learned everything they knew about gay sex from reading mediocre fanfiction published in 2012
(!!!!!!!!!!SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!!) the part at the end when whats his face comes out to his nhl team's pr guy and the pr guy is like "no problem buddy we actually already knew because we cyber-stalk all of our prospects! we actually drafted you because we'd been getting some heat for letting all our players of color go and thought a gay player would show we value diversity! so when you wanna come out publicly we already have the press release done!" and whats his face is like huh kinda weird but cool ok! ABSOLUTELY B O N K E R S. not that i wouldn't put it past an nhl team to be like that but oh my god don't act like it's cool and normal instead of total nightmare fuel??
okay. sorry. i'm done now. i buddy-read this book with a friend and she couldn't even finish it because she also hated it. i know a lot of people liked this book according to goodreads, and obviously people are allowed to like things that are not to my taste but lordy. what a bad time for me personally!!!

hrmgmgm 4ever situ thoughts
this will probably get messy and personal because that Really informs how i feel and i need to expel it from my body LMAO
i still dont know how i feel. or well. i know how i feel but its nuanced and conflicted and im mad that i cant concisely say how i feel. we Know the initial information didnt come out in good faith. we Know that the girls involved were not asked how they felt prior to the callouts. we also can see from current actions that this doesnt happen anymore. that it doesnt represent who he is as a person in recent years.
and i fully believe that people are able to change and grow from past wrong actions. regardless of if those actions were just wrong jokes or Literal Actions.
this cycle never gets easier. ive been on both sides e.g. being like one of the girls. but also being one of the ccs. so i get their no nuance just anger. because m still mad as hell about ike/ciel. as someone who was good friends with him. but also was the same age as his victims and very easily could be considered one by some people. shout out to being two people removed from ironmouse though 🤪.
but ive also like. been in the girls situation. you dig back 11/12 years on here. theres Going to be evidence of 22 year olds with thousands of followers flirting with 13/14 year old me. some of whom were harmless friends making weird tasteless no intent jokes. and some of whom were genuine pedophiles that either were complete strangers or people i knew in real life and called friends. and id be fucking pissed if any of those were taken out of or even in context without my permission. because its my story. if anyones going to be talking about it it should only ever be because i decided i wanted it to be talked about. not some random person having a vendetta against people i used to talk to and finding and using bits of my story as a way to defame someone whos recent actions do not line up with the deplorable actions of them in 20 fucking 12.
and so i cant help but have 800 fucking emotions. because what we know about is gross. but i dont believe he should be fully deplatformed over shit he hasnt done in 5-7 years. and that is absolutely fueled by my emotions because as far as we know. the girls did not ask for him to be deplatformed. the girls stories are being spread without their input to ruin a guys life. and i would feel violated if i was used as evidence by strangers against my will.
but maybe thats just the victim brain in me who will always feel the need to shield some of the guys from my past because its complicated and messy and humans are complicated and messy. and im just projecting. because i have been in those girls position. a few times.
and thats why ive been mostly silent through this whole thing. because i am a Hashtag Bad Victim and no one wants to hear from the people who think were being too hasty and think information should come from the people involved. not twitter sleuths who really fucking hate a cc.
that said for people who need to see it written out. im not supporting him with views on future videos. i still enjoy 4ever as a character. i will still probably reblog 4ever art every now and then, because ive also gone thru this in a dnd fandom where one guy turned out to be a shitter but i still enjoyed his character so i will engage with the character when i feel like it. because that character is not the streamer.
this whole situation just feels bad and unfair to absolutely everyone involved. no one here is winning. celebrating his removal is weird. because the removal means something Did happen and thats horrible. and watching this turn into a spectacle to see who unfollows next/what the next announcement is, is disgusting. this isnt a game and it feels like some of you are treating it that way. these are real lives, these are real people.
side tangent.
i really fucking cant stand everyone whos been comparing this to the dream situations. because every single dream situation has come from victims or people posing as victims. so of course. listen to them and do your own research but believe them from the get go. THIS THOUGH????? WAS ADMITTEDLY UNRELATED PEOPLE WHO HATED A GUY, WHO FOR MONTHS HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING TO DEPLATFORM HIM. AND FINALLY FOUND SOMETHING THAT WAS ACTIONABLE. of course some of us were going to hold off on forming thoughts and were gonna be skeptical of where the information came from because it was not victims coming forward.
its two different fucking situations and acting like theyre the same is insane to me.

Hiya, it's me again, thanks for answering my ask! And believe me, I am so interested in the degeneracy. I only discovered your blog, like, two weeks ago- and I am having a blast. The brainrot is so real right now.
Long message, but- to go off of what you said- I had a feeling Reaver would be the one a meta-knowledge person would have the most issue with. You already hinted in other posts that he REALLY doesn't like when his past comes up. But it is fun to see just how affected he is by that.
Really, all of the bastards are intriguing. I do have to say, I am biased towards Ilya for my own reasons (they are not reasonable at all, I am shameless and a disaster over that man- especially when you said he's inspired by one of my favorite artist's works??), but each one's reactions to a meta-character are fun to see. Astarion's was surprising, but he also still has the closest attachment to his "empathy" compared to the others.
If you'd want to do a before they find out/make a move, I would love to see more- but I honestly would love to read anything about these wretched men lol! Hope you're having a good day!
Oh good! I'm so glad you enjoy it! I know a lot of people get annoyed because that is not why they followed me but it seems like there's a few people who do enjoy it, so of course I will keep going lmao Any excuse to talk about the wretches, to be honest!
Reaver is very sensitive of his past. He insists he isn't human (you know, all of his friends aren't human, so neither is he) and unfortunately, loving and feeling things is all too human for him. Having a flawed past is all too human. All that pain and misery is all too human. He makes Corvus calm his nightmares so he doesn't experience them anymore. He drinks blood like Astarion does because his vision of himself demands it. He will also try partake in a little one-off cannibalism because he's jealous that Corvus can eat people, but it grosses the others out. He's a... strange man. His goal is to be the most depraved, debauched, wretched man you've ever seen.
Ilya is my special boy. He's absolutely horrible, but in a weird, nuanced way, same as the others. He chases pleasure with the same fever that Reaver does, but is much more subtle about it. He plays puppet master. He thinks he's soooo clever. His desires literally rival Reaver in debasement and just sheer depravity, but he doesn't have the same reputation for filth in the group.
Do you have anything in specific? Like specific scenarios where you would be meeting them or if you're just yoinked in, or anything in specific I can construct for you? A lot of it varies on how you meet them, where they are wandering around when they see you, etc. Like if you get yoinked in, or whatever else have you. I'm happy to explore any of it! <3

I don’t understand why you’re so caught up in what other people choose to interpret as canon what does “acting like this is canon” even mean. we know nothing about steve’s parents apart from slight clues that people take a lot of liberty with interpreting, you included. also fanon popular stobin is way off from canon stobin too. so why is it such an issue when people take details about the other characters and interpret them how they want. the whole tommy and carol thing, you just don’t want them to be shitty people, you love steve so much but you’re fixated on makings excuses for them and trying to downplay how awful they were to him. it makes no sense. he wants nothing to do with them, they were never his real friends and that is canon
I mean I just get frustrated with people taking non-canon things as canon because people use it as an excuse to bash characters and their fans lol. The whole post that prompted this was someone claiming that Steve let Tommy and Carol bully Robin back when they were friends, and that was why she had a good reason to dislike him before (in response to a mutual saying that Robin's reasons for disliking Steve were petty). That's exactly what I mean when I say "acting like something is canon". That doesn't exist in the show! People made that up! But people are talking about it like it's true and not just their headcanons.
Also where did I take liberties with Steve's parents lmao. His dad is a cheater, Steve says that on screen. Can't remember the last time I made a meta or headcanon post about his parents.
I also never said that Carol and Tommy weren't shitheads, I just don't think they were bullies and that I don't think canon supports the common claim that they were bullies. They were assholes but so is.... everyone in the show? The kids spend an entire episode calling El "the psycho" instead of her name lmao. I also disagree that they were so incredibly horrible to Steve or were never his real friends because they seem pretty close on screen but that is something that I think we don't see enough of to tell for sure!
Honestly, even if they were horrible to Steve, I am in fact allowed to like characters my fave doesn't get along with lol. Like I disagree that that is what the text of the show tells us, but it's weird to me to be like "oh I HAVE to hate those characters because they were mean to my fave :((( I'm not allowed to think that they are more nuanced than just being mean to my fave :((("

honestly thank you for saying that about Tamlin. I feel like it's a weird phenomenon the fandom does with most of the characters, where you either have to view them as Saints or hate their guts. In Tamlin's case I think that a lot of people overhate him to the extent of trying to make him out as evil as Amarantha, or on the flip side, act as if he did nothing wrong in his life ever. Same thing goes for Nesta or Rhys or Feyre. I think that only a few acotar characters can be categorized as "has never done anything wrong" (gwyn and emerie for instance) or "pure evil" (hybern or amarantha) and everyone else is morally gray, because those are the types of characters sarah likes to write (I mean, look at tog). This isn't to say that someone can't love or hate whatever character they want, even with a passion, but trying to rewrite the book to fit a certain narrative is annoying.
Anon, it drives me crazy!!!! This is why I never tag anything anti or pro - especially not pro, I'm already in the fandom, I am default pro-acotar series... And with one glaring exception (lmao), I don't spend my time on things I dislike to the point where I would need to tag things anti. Things are not so black and white, it's never that simple except like you said, in the case of Amarantha (although, one could argue that she was justified in what she did to Jurian because of her sister, so even there we can somewhat see her perspective!)
It just seems silly to me to act like we can read a book, make a "Good Guy" column and a "Bad Guy" column and sort the characters into them, and then call it a day. That would be so boring, and I'd also feel like the author had zero nuance and had never met an actual person before.
Loving and hating a character are totally different from this, you're right! I can and will love Mor and Cassian and Feyre and Elain, and say they've fucked up. God, I love to rant about Feyre in the Spring Court in acowar and I still love her character! Because it's not about a morality checklist, it's about being interesting and compelling and sometimes, being able to identify with the character.
If we have to choose between viewing the characters as "interesting" or "compelling" and finding them "good/right" or "bad/wrong", I know which one I'll opt for, every time.

a: right out the gate i just think hes really really pretentious lmao </3 he just kinda annoys me not gonna lie to u rn i find him obnoxious . we would not get along irl . this is not calling him out for the crime of being annoying but its why i personally dont like him
b: he reminds me of times where i was Very Mentally Ill so its not really a positive association, i basically associate his music (especially self-ish) w being real delusional bc thats when my will wood phase was
c: not going into depth on this altho i Do have in depth thoughts but i think people cut wayyyyy too much slack for him on the stuff he got called out for a while back ...... like i just dont think the stuff he admitted to is as Grey and Nuanced as people say it is . this is the primary reason why i dont listen to his music anymore it gave me a real bad taste in my mouth, again this isnt a callout post im just sharing my own personal feelings on the subject
d: this isnt about Him per se but he always makes me think of his brother who ive heard a ton of grooming allegations abt so bad associations again, also as far as ive heard they still actively associate and he hasnt spoken on said allegations altho obviously i dont keep up w him so maybe im wrong
e: a lot of members of his fanbase are extremely extremely parasocial and weird about him, not saying its his fault for it but again negative associations
and thats basically the summary . i used to be a HUGE fan i actually got into chnt on the drive to a will wood concert lol but i kinda really dislike him now so i dont really get much .... Joy out of listening to his music anymore . the chnt soundtrack is still my babygirl tho and theres tons of reasons to like chnt BESIDES the soundtrack even if i got into it bc i liked will wood and no longer do

so sorry about the anon hate; i feel like it happens whenever slight criticism/not overwhelmingly positive opinions are aired. it's happened to me with various other drivers, too :/
but anyway! i have two fairly expansive points for you! and some extra bits of discussion, too :) <3
a) the "lando paydriver" thing seems to have originated from a singular article written by a quasi-"journalist" fan on a fan-based journalism site, with no real evidence and, probably more importantly, hasn't ever been corroborated by any of the actually trustworthy, legitimate f1 publications. it's also been propagated by those who don't particularly like him who've just seen that his father is wealthy and have made assumptions.
he talked his dad's wealth in a quite measured way on a podcast a year or two ago; he essentially had his dad's backing through the junior series (rather than academy or just sponsor funding) which let him be more flexible with what, where and how he was competing (mainly being able to nope out of the general vicinity of helmut marko), but he set a boundary with his dad that f2 would be the last thing he paid for.
lando won the autosport brdc award, which was affiliated with mclaren at the time, which lead him down the path of simulator tests and eventually signing as a junior with them, which lead to the simulator, test and reserve driver roles he had in 2017-2018. which lead to him signing for his debut f1 season in september 2018, when he was still 2nd in the f2 championship.
the paydriver moniker is a strange one nevertheless; as you say we've seen a good number of actual paydrivers and sort-of paydrivers and even not-even-really paydrivers prove themselves to the point where there is no point or even merit to bring up how they got into the sport in the first place. and so at the end of the day... if you had the money, why wouldn't you?! i know i would lmao
b) i don't think i can ever begrudge lando for what can be interpreted as only ever talking about mental health when it pertains to himself. precisely because it does pertain to himself; lando opening up about the doubt, the anxiety and his mental health being at its worst in his rookie year is incredibly brave, and quite frankly inspiring to me. i know it lodged in the back of my mind when i eventually had to stop bottling everything up and talk to my family and eventually go to therapy/counselling for my anxiety. he might not always be the most eloquent about it but it will always be a point of admiration for me.
for everything else i feel that's just up to a lot of interpretation; i think he does genuinely struggle when it comes to packaging his non-driving related press into a way that is understandable or even palatable to those who aren't fans of him, and sometimes he doesn't always hit the mark; he's by far not the most eloquent driver on the grid.
there are nuances to everyone in the paddock, and i think we sometimes forget just how much scrutiny all these guys are under and how much the quotes used in articles can sometimes really miss a lot from the context of tone, be cherry picked or twisted. and even after all of that, lando arguably gives over more of himself to public scrutiny than anyone else with all his streaming and other social media activities.
and, i almost always hate this reasoning but it does have to be said, we forget how young he was coming into f1, just freshly turned 19. and already with a big social media following even then; the maturing you'd go through over 5 years would be very strange and not always linear. it's a weird one.
overall while i do hold lando quite close to my heart (as you could probably tell) he can be marmite-y to those who don't "get" him. and that should be okay, too.
and anyway f1 is just a game of picking your favourite fallable tax dodgers! people often take anything and everything much too far to heart for these 20+ "some guys".
hope you have a lovely day/night anywho, and apologies for the long message :)) <33
hey nonnie. thanks for this! I really appreciate your take on this (and thanks for being so respectful about it!)
I should clarify, I also admire lando discussing his own mental health. The issues I have come from his apparent reluctance to speak out when it comes to the abuse other drivers face, again - I'm only basing this off of what I've seen, and I've personally never seen him go to the defence of anyone else. It only makes me uncomfortable because as an ambassador of a mental health charity I'd just, idk, expect more ? I guess. But like you say, they are at the end of the day just "some guys", and we probably shouldn't expect a lot from any of them.
Anyway. I don't really have much else to add to this, I think you've made some good points
