the movie mario voice is horrible. and i am not even talking about the lack of "signature mario voice". the delivery of the lines are flat as a floor. no effort to make it sound convincing. no enthusiasm. bowser's delivery is great. luigi's delivery is amazing. but mario. THE mario. his voice sounds like he's trying to encapsulate how would it be if mario was him, not the other way around. the music is fucking amazing. the animation is fucking amazing. the mario actor should have been someone who can and is fully committed to pour his fucking heart and soul encapsulating himself as mario and not fucking vice versa. i have a VERY hard time NOT thinking movie mario as a fucking MANNEQUIN every time i hear his goddamn voice lines.

maybe it IS not really his fault that he got casted when he has no care whatsoever about the character of mario. but the one character who needs and fucking deserves a genuine voice the most, is mario.

The thing for me is that Jack Black really is an artist. The man puts in work to become his character when he voices his lines, makes music, and just acts in general. There’s depth and actual creativity in his roles. Meanwhile Chris Pratt seems to just walk into any project he lands to play the exact same Generic Guy every time

Watching the trailer to that Mario movie, I watched it without realizing Bowser was being voiced by Jack Black. I am so fucking impressed that he pulls off a Bowser role so well to where you couldn’t even tell it’s Jack Black voicing him. But what the fuck, why do we have Chris Pratt as Mario if he’s going to do such a poor job at voice acting????? Jack Black sounds like the kid in class that spent since birth prepping for the class presentation. Chris Pratt sounds like he prepped during the class he’s presenting.

If we can get a studio to redo the entire Sonic character design, we can get this one to drop Chris Pratt. We deserve a Mario film without a F- performance from Chris Pratt

Shadow the Hedgehog needs to be treated CAREFULLY. The backlash of Pratt voicing Mario should at the very least be enough to get Paramount to stop and think before they just cast any random fucking celebrity.

I could write several essays on voice acting (in the united states at least) but I'm not going to. I'm just gonna bring up that the Goofy Movie(s) are really good and the voice acting is too. It'd be crazy to say "no one wants to hear a silly character voice for a full movie" because that's objectively not true. Not even just the Goofy Movies, any disney product with one of their goofy ass mascots. Any of the Looney Toons, The Animaniacs, Who Framed Roger Rabbit. The idea that character voice actors aren't capable of taking these silly voices and making them more emotionally expressive is, in my opinion, a big disservice to voice actors.

The only reason celebrities keep getting cast in these roles that they don't fit or just can't do is because they're already famous and are going to draw in a crowd.
