Blake and Sun lose their feelings because MKEK wrote them to. This would be fine if they did it in a realistic and respectful way. But they didn't; so the volumes of gradual romance is instantly reduced to friendship (this is debatable as Blake promptly forgets about Sun) in which both of them suddenly come to the conclusion that there were no true feelings at all. It was a shallow attraction at most with zero depth despite doing almost every romance trope. They move on without a second thought!

I don't think Blake and Sun's feelings were shallow at all, because we got not one but two/three songs (not fall in love with you, LMFN and this time (which is arguably either sun or ghira depending how you look at it) which pretty explicitly said how much they meant to each other. what happened was that they both got a plot induced lobotomy (or at least Blake did) to forget everything that happened between them and the significance of those moments.

That's the really hard thing is that Sun's going to have to stomach the fact that he lost Blake to Yang and forget about ever having feelings for her, or he'll be forced at gunpoint to say that he knew bees was a thing all along like all the other characters.

I mean Sun literally risked his life for Blake, and she was genuinely devastated that he got hurt because of her. they had a deep heart to heart that actually managed to get through her defenses and affected her, and Sun pledged his unwavering support to her no matter what. that is real love.

Yang has never done anything like that for Blake to that degree. sure, she saved her from Adam, (kinda), but besides that, they haven't had any significant moments like Blake and Sun had on that level. their deepest conversation was just "Killing is bad, let's never do that again unless we have to,"

not to mention how blake and sun left each other, with the expectation that that effort would be paid off. she kissed him on the cheek, ffs, which is something super important for a character like blake who isn't touchy feely like that.

my heart is still broken that all of that development was thrown out for fucking bees which has 0 substance and didn't deserve canon status.

It’s pretty wild when people try to argue that interpreting Nevermore as being Ozpin to Salem is just as valid as interpreting it as being about Blake and Yang to Adam because a handful of lines, when taken completely out of context, could maybe fit their situation and “all art is open to interpretation.” There’s obviously a limit to that and people are going to tell you you’re being ridiculous when you’re going out of your way to misinterpret something.

I'd potentially be okay with Sun coming along if they made it an express purpose to expand his character beyond Blake (in a reasonable share of screentime). Like I realize there's much better things to focus on but at this point I'd be happy if something finally happened with Sun. He's such a weird, unnecessary anomaly and I need some kind of justification for his existence. I'd much rather have half his screentime be useless than the entirety of it.

i still don’t think i would be, he’s been a screentime sink since volume 1 and has contributed very little (it’s been 5 years since he was introduced and he hasn’t developed or gained any depth or had any really meaningful moments since that time - hell the fact that unlike every other student we’ve seen since the end of volume 3, he’s the only one whose outfit hasn’t changed, indicative that the Fall of Beacon, which has traumatised and heavily affected the rest of them, hasn’t really affected him in the slightest, is almost like a symbolic representation of how little he’s grown or changed), so bringing him along to eat up more screentime (and an arc to expand his character would eat up even more) would be detrimental when we’re at a point where the focus really has to be on the girls and their relationships with each other now that they’re all back together

#rwb/y #like they could've done a 'negative character development' route #where him seeing that Blake feels more for Yang than she does for him #sends him in this negative jealousy spiral #especially given how he's always the first to propose a violent solution to a problem #'not if we /destroy/ the white fang first' #and that line in LMFN which sounds like 'i'll force my company on you until you learn to love me' #and we get some negative parallels to Adam as a result #because sometimes character development makes people worse - not better #which could even work as a point about how abuse survivors unfortunately wind up with other abusers #because their ideas of acceptable behaviour has been so warped by their previous abuse #which would explain why Blake isn't /more/ outraged at his creepy obsessive stalking #because god at least it would have made him somewhat interesting #but i think the ship sailed on that score #Anonymous
