I really need to stop buying books. I've placed 4 book orders in the past ~2 weeks. I just ordered @caranox's Thirteenth Key, and now I might have to lock my debit card away somewhere. (don't worry, I'm not going broke over this)

I still have 6.5 unread books before I would even get to that book. But given that I average reading at least 200 pages a night, it won't take me long to get through my remaining pile. (Which also happens to include The Girl In The Clockwork Tower by @lou-wilham, plus The Goddess of Nothing At All, Nightstrider, and Veil Us In Gold from these lists of queer/disabled self-pub books.)

#morrigan.text #and after I finish all these I still have a bunch of things I can reread #so many #might do the Lunar Chronicles #or maybe the Villains duology #or maybe some Rick Riordan for nostalgia reasons #there's too many options.#I also need to count my books so I can get an accurate idea of exactly how many are on my shelves.

🧡BOOK REVIEW🧡

Villainous by Lou Wilham.

Villainous is a different type of novel for me and being truly honest, it's the first novel I've read that has a character who refers to themself as both he and she. I don't think there's many out there or at least not in the mainstream.

The chapters in Villainous follow Jericho and it switch between he and she, at first it was a little hard to wrap my head round thinking it was another character but after awhile it became normal and I didn't think anything more of it.

I did enjoy this story immensely and the premise was great, it bordered on the morally grey area of who actually is wrong and who is right, are the heroes actually villains and the villains heroes? Are such things as black and white as they appear?

I loved Jericho - the Hero, the character fought for what was right and was fiercely loyal even when their beliefs were questioned.

Soleil aka Dusk - the villain, was fabulous! I loved him, he had spunk, wit and was just damn adorable.

He always had a game to play and you never knew if and when he was playing it.

The storyline and the build up was great to read and gave an insight into Sol and J's previous relationship, I loved Sol and J's witty remarks and banter to each other and laughed at “You’re not a fucking househusband, you’re a convict.” comment.

The story for me took a surprising turn and the twists were great, I loved that ending - from chapter 19 to the end for me had me on the edge of my seat rooting for the gang.

The previous chapters were a great build up and certainly eye opening - I think my jaw was on the ground with the revelations!!

Right now I'm between books. I recently finished The Scholomance series by Naomi Novik which I cannot recommend highly enough for some exquisite world-building, a protagonist who constantly has to make the difficult decision to do good and a plot that kept me guessing right up until the end. (Also, a Welsh protagonist, which always fills my heart with joy!)

My next read has to be A Rival Most Vial by @ashen-crest. I'd already been looking forward to it for ages, but @red-pen-ally keeps making very pointed recommendations and she's never steered me wrong yet!

Unfortunately I don't write half as much as I damn well should, so let's see if we can find anything even vaguely like these in what I've got 🙃

Tie: She felt the demon tie something around her upper arm. (Unnamed Demons project) (the secret is, neither the story nor the characters have names yet! isn't that fun!)

Past: I hadn’t gotten to trimming back the bushes growing out from the woods yet, and bless past me for being so lazy since they would definitely slow him down more than they would us. (Knotty Magic) (it's a yarn pun, ha)

Killer: (will killed do?) She didn't know what had brought [the only named character, the bastard] to her in or made it stick around longer than it should have, but she was certainly glad its presence hadn't killed her outright. Yet, at least. (Unnamed Demons project)

Couldn't find anything for register or receipt, so here's some others from the randomizer to make up for it:

Move: Some people even crave it after death, which makes tea-time rituals interesting. Those are the strongest poltergeists, the ones who would move heaven and earth to be able to pick up the cup of coffee on the table. (Show Yourself) (i actually have to finish this one, I signed a contract and everything)

Taxi: That was miles away! She’d have to have been walking for hours. “Why didn’t you get a taxi or something?” (Unnamed Demon project)
