no okay dust when he first joins the gang is so fucking funny in my au bcs this is like a 30 year old man who has spent his entire life a) in a locked basement b) in a locked prison c) in a locked mental ward
like this man has not a SINGLE life skill and yet he could tell you how the universe works in immense detail without hesitating. but he probably doesnt know what a dog is

the language that is commonly used when you search up any make-up and hair (or just general beauty) tip is so weird and off-putting to me that i almost can't believe how widespread and normalized it is. i mean, i don't doubt that some looks suit some features better than others, but this simple concept is almost always presented as being a correction to some perceived imperfection. it's not '(x) would look good on people with (y) features', it's '(x) will help you conceal the ugliness inherent to (y) feature', as though there is a platonic ideal of a face that we're all trying to replicate and fake our way into looking like

i’m sorry but can we talk about how fucking devastating it is to hear it repeatedly said in the game how godey and cazador found astarion’s screams to be the “sweetest”?
the way he was the one who always screamed the loudest. when he was being tortured for days in the kennel by godey. when cazador was carving the runes into his back. centuries, and no one ever helped him or saved him. for centuries, he was screaming and begging for mercy, and it only egged his abuser on more.
no wonder he disapproves more when you repeatedly help and save people. repeatedly, he has to watch you save all these people, knowing no one ever saved him.
yes, i’m actively sobbing over a video game character. i want something more painful than just death for cazador.

the short stories are actually really provocative and profound, heartrending and disturbing and thought-provoking and funny all at the same time and in such a short amount of space.
but i feel like when n*tflix touched them, they were the first victim of a withering away and soul sapping for me, in which i couldn't bear to be around the kinds of discussions and jokes and everything which were coming up at that time as fundamental misunderstandings of them so it just became very painful and very banal because they were all, in essence, forgotten.
however, that damage is not irreversable.
particularly in the case of a good adaptation, the musical, i have begun to remember all of why i love the short stories so much, just how good and painful to my heart they are, as well as thinking more deeply about some aspects which i had not previously considered or paid a lot of attention to (in lieu of other things which excited me more).
i think the biggest strength of a "good" adaptation and a "good" fandom is that they make you realize things you hadn't, interested in parts that weren't your 'favorite,' and generally expanding your mind and love of the source material. in contrast, a "bad" adaptation or "bad" fandom is that which makes you wish to forget and eventually end up forgetting your love and leaving it behind yourself. "good" is to remember, "bad" is to forget.
