if stefan turns out to be, like, some level of not good, I'm gonna drop kick him into the fucking sun.
#i was dubious about him from the start tbh but he's grown on me a lot#but damn can that man annihilate a hoard of enemies like it's nothing#i send him over to a group of like 5 or 6 enemies and half of his hits are either crits or astra activations#he also is The Dodge Tank™ like holy shit bro#man will be getting swarmed yet dodges 9 out of 10 attacks at him#he's become part of my core four tbh#which is high praise bc the other three are characters i already knew about before i actually played the game#i knew very little abt steffy other than to be able to recruit him you have to meet the most specific and bizarre conditions ever#well i guess that's not quite the right wording but like why tf do i have to send one of the two furries to stand on one very specific tile#a tile that is lowkey very out of the way as well#i sent mordy and he was like ''why does it smell like somebody is buried in the sand here?'' and this green ass hippie wanders out#and he's all just suave and chill and kinda sexy but also why is he not wearing one of his sleeves of his coat? is the other dangling loose?#i do not know#and then fucker is like ''i will have 2 supports only. mordy bc he's curious and kind. and soren bc he's got issues up to here.''#i've only watched their c supports so like idk for sure but i'm 97% sure he's also Branded?? his and soren's support alluded to it#just drops in and gives soren a lil spook and is all ''dw i'm of your kind'' and thr lil emo just acts all aloof and tries to avoid it#idk i think it's sweet that stef wants to make it clear that there's silent solidarity between them given the way the Branded are treated#but of course no one knows abt soren other than the two of them and i'm pretty sure soren is still in denial abt it? idk but i blame nasir#fuck nasir me and my homies hate nasir#the minute he disappeared below deck with soren when we wrecked in goldoa i heard sirens going off in my head man#like okay mr dragon why do you hate dragons and feel like u gotta hide form them? is it bc they'll recognise u? bc ur wanted for crimes?#and idk man i doubt soren would've ditched ike when he decided he wanted to wander about and get off the ship cuz he was bored 😭#like. if soren were present i doubt ike would have even left the ship bc he is his impulse control and also probably knew it was a bad idea#but noooo he suddenly disappeared... hmmm....#anyway yeah fuck nasir but i do like stefan. he's just a silly lil guy (i hope) and is just here to vibe and obliterate bitches and be hot#and get absolutely dogshit levelups omfg he got three in a row that were just +1 luck and that was IT#regardless. love me that guy. that is all.#gabe plays#fe por#nqp

Author’s Note: Okay, so this chapter was originally 13K words, but it felt ridiculous to post a chapter that long when all the others are around 4-7K. I decided to split that giant ass chapter up into 3 chapters, so you guys are going to get pretty regular updates over the next few days. 
WARNING: I know I have this up in the warnings, but I want to make it VERY CLEAR in case this is triggering for people. This series is very dark and very horror based and since we’re starting to dive deep into the plot, very triggering topics are going to start popping up in the future chapters. 
THIS CHAPTER MENTIONS RAPE. It is very brief, and it passes in conversation, but I feel like this needs to be said in case it’s triggering for some people.

“I love you!” 
Hyunjin’s heart skipped a beat at your sudden confession. Surely you didn’t love love him right? There was no way…
Hyunjin pursed his lips as his mind swarmed with possibilities. There was a real chance that you didn’t actually love him. 
There’s this thing called The Suspension Bridge Effect — where trauma victims mistake the feeling of trust, security, and admiration for a feeling of love. All of your small confessions — your little phrases, “I trust you,” “I adore you,” and “I care about you,” could be a HUGE sign that you just felt safe with him. Odds are… you’ve fallen into this trap.
But if you really did love him…
God, if you really did love him, Hyunjin would have to admit to himself that he loves you. Then he could finally kiss you, hold you, and love you the way you should be loved but… it would also force the two of you to keep your relationship hidden from the institution — which would be really difficult judging by the nosey people who work in the building. You two would either have to keep your relationship a secret, or he would have to work hard and come up with an escape plan, so the two of you could finally be happy out in the real world. 
But what if this feeling wasn’t love? What if Hyunjin loved you as a friend? The boy never truly experienced love the way many other people do when they’re younger. His family didn’t take care of him — he took care of himself. He didn’t fall in love as a teenager — he studied to become a doctor. 
After thinking a bit longer Hyunjin decided that no — no he didn’t love you in that way. You were his friend — a patient, not a lover. Besides, you were probably just telling him you loved him as a friend. “I love you too sweetheart.” Hyunjin smiled softly. “I’m glad you trust me. I promise I won’t let anything else happen to you.” Hyunjin ran his thumb across your cheek. “You’re the best patient I’ve ever had.” 
Oh…
Did you just get friend-zoned? Well actually, the two of you had a professional relationship, so you technically got patient-zoned. 
You were still just a patient in his eyes. Every fiber of your being was fighting the urge to facepalm and yet… you were completely and utterly embarrassed about blurting out your love for the beautiful man. Hyunjin clearly didn’t understand what you were telling him. That boy was a genius but he’s got to be the world’s most dense guy.
Well, you couldn’t fault him for it. From what Hyunjin has told you, he’s been alone most of his life. He was either taking care of his mother or studying to be a doctor so he could dedicate his life to helping those who suffer from mental illnesses. Hyunjin was such an amazing guy. He was so relatable, yet — so untouchable. You wouldn't be surprised if Hyunjin confessed that he wasn’t interested in romantic relationships. 
You would still love him anyway. 
Sure… you could just confess once more — hold his cheeks in your hands, plant a kiss on his lips, tell the boy that you loved him more than life itself — tell him that he’s the reason you’re alive to see the moon rise and the stars sparkle. You could do all of that but… you wouldn’t dare ruin the soft moment. You enjoyed the feeling of his arms around your body, the feeling of his thumb rubbing soothing circles on your arm, listening to the soft thumping of his heart as you curled up in his chest. You didn’t want to ruin that. Besides, if he didn’t love you back, you just dodged a bullet. 
“Can we just talk?” You mumbled, suddenly feeling awkward at the silence. “Your voice sounds nice.” 
As if you could be more obvious…
“Sure. What do you want to talk about?” Hyunjin smiled and ran his fingers through your hair. The soft strands slipped effortlessly through his fingers, making his heart swell. 
You sighed, searching your brain for any answers. No particular topics came to mind — you really just wanted to hear his soft voice as he talked about everything and anything. “Anything.” You leaned closer in his embrace as you grabbed his other hand, tracing one of the veins with the tip of your finger. 
Hyunjin couldn’t help but smile as you fiddled with his hand. It felt oddly nice, being this close with someone. Throughout his life, Hyunjin never really felt physical affection. His father was out of the picture from a young age, having committed suicide when he was a young boy, and his mother lost her mind soon after. Most of his childhood was spent taking care of his mother, and/or making sure she doesn’t kill herself. When he wasn’t taking care of others, he had his nose in a book. Feeling soft touches, hugs, and small caresses were brand new to him — and he enjoyed it more than he was willing to admit. 
In fact — the boy was practically touch-starved. Every single time you had your arms around him, Hyunjin felt safe, cared for, and loved. When your arms weren’t on him, he felt lost. “I want to hear about you.” Hyunjin smiled softly. “What can you tell me about yourself?”
You paused for a second, fingers stilling on Hyunjin’s hands as you tried to remember something — anything that would give him an idea of who you were. Unfortunately, your mind was blank. There was nothing. You couldn’t remember a single thing about yourself. “I don’t remember much.” You sighed. “I guess there is one thing.”  Your fingers started to move against Hyunjin’s hand once more. Wait... was that weird? You quickly dropped his hand, mumbling a quick, “Sorry.” 
“Hm?” Hyunjin’s brow raised as he looked down at your hands. “No, keep going. It feels nice.” Hyunjin slid his hand back into yours as he asked, “What do you remember?”
You pressed your thumb into Hyunjin’s palm gently as you kept talking. “I keep seeing flashes of something.” You sighed. “I think it’s a kidnapping…” You trailed off, trying to find the right words. “It might be mine.” 
Hyunjin’s breath hitched as the words left your lips. 
So you were kidnapped… 
Of course, there was a chance that this was just a frequent recurring nightmare you were having, but… Hyunjin always had a feeling you didn’t belong in the institution. Someone at the asylum kidnapped you and brought you to the hospital… Who could that be?
“I always get a really bad headache and I get scared when I think about it.” You paused, taking a deep breath to control your emotions. “Hyunjin… I’m scared to find the truth.” 
You were terrified. What if you found out your entire life was a lie? Your mind was filled with memories of the institution — almost none were from your past. You could remember meeting Minho, Chan, and Changbin. You also remembered the day your eyes met Hyunjin’s — the chocolate orbs driving deep within your soul immediately. 
“That’s understandable sweetheart.” Hyunjin’s arms tightened around your frame. “Do you…” The boy paused, wondering if he should even ask. “Do you remember murdering someone?”
“No.” Your eyes welled up with tears. “No, I don’t.” Your breathing started to speed up as you wiped your eyes, hoping to hide any traces of tears. You were so sick of crying, sick of being afraid, of being alone… You just wanted to get out of Rosewood so you could live a normal life. That wouldn’t be possible if you were a murderer — and if you were a murderer… God, that means you’re a horrible person. “Hyunjin what if I did?” 
Hyunjin rested his chin on your head. “Shh, it’s okay sweetheart. You aren’t a horrible person.” Hyunjin rubbed soothing circles on your back with his thumb, hoping the small gesture would make you feel less afraid. “We don’t know anything right now. There’s no use in worrying about it until we figure out what happened. For all we know, Dr. Douglas could have been lying.” 
“Can we please talk about something else?” You mumbled into his chest. You needed to change the subject before you wound up having another attack. “Tell me something about you.” You paused, wondering what to ask him. “Something deep.” 
Wait… would he even want to talk to you about his life? Sure, you tell Hyunjin everything but, he was your doctor. Maybe it’s weird for a doctor to share their stories with a patient… Fuck, you never should have asked. “Only if you want to though.” 
“No, I don’t mind.” Hyunjin smiled. “It’s only fair. I’m always in your business.” Hyunjin chuckled, the deep laughter sending a wave of calm over your being. 
“Yeah, but you’re my doctor.” You giggled, “I’m just nosey.” 
Hyunjin smiled softly, eyes crinkling as he mentally snapped a picture of your bright smile. Ah, but you were right. He was your DOCTOR. Nothing more, nothing less. Hyunjin needed to start treating you more like a patient. 
But was it that wrong to be close with your patient? You were getting so much better thanks to the way he treated you. But was he treating you like this because he cared about your mental stability? Or was it something deeper? Perhaps it was just pure instinct. Hyunjin couldn’t tell. 
No… Hyunjin knew exactly what this was, he was just in denial about it. He loved you with all his heart. He trusted you with all this information. Something deep inside him WANTED to tell you everything. 
“You’re not nosey.” Hyunjin chuckled. “I guess I’ll tell you about me and my family.” Hyunjin took a deep breath, scanning his brain for memories worth sharing. “When I was young, my mother discovered that I was a bit different from all the other kids.” Hyunjin smiled. “I was reading at a much higher level, I could solve complex math problems in my head, and I knew the entire English dictionary back to front.” Hyunjin’s eyes crinkled as he grinned at you. “That was when we found out that I was classified as a genius.” 
“Wow.” You smiled. “That must have made school pretty easy.” 
You couldn’t remember anything about your school days. Perhaps you were a closet genius? Nah, that wasn’t possible. Judging by how complacent you are in the institution, you were probably one of those kids who went through the motions just so they could get out of school. 
“Yeah…” Hyunjin paused. “It comes with its own set of problems. My father worked in a dead-end job. From what I heard, he was always unhappy.” The boy sighed. “One day he just decided to end it all.” Hyunjin pursed his lips. “I was five-years-old when I found him dead on the bathroom floor surrounded by tons of pills.” Hyunjin’s hand ran across his jaw as if to wipe away any emotion from his face. “He always smiled when he was around me, so it felt like his death was out of the blue.” 
“God, Hyunjin.” You looked up at him, noticing the faraway look in his eyes. “I’m so sorry.” You adjusted your position, straddling his hips so you could hug him. 
“Thank you.” Hyunjin wrapped his arms around your frame. “But don’t worry. This happened such a long time ago. It doesn’t really bother me now. Besides, I don’t really think he was my real father. I didn’t look like him at all.” Hyunjin chuckled darkly. 
“Jinnie, he was still your father.” You pulled away to look him in the eyes. “That shit doesn’t just go away. It always sticks with you.” 
Hyunjin’s cheeks flushed slightly as he pulled you closer. “Thank you. I still had my mother at the time.” 
“Had?” Your face fell. “Is your mother?”
“No.” Hyunjin interrupted you. “My mother is alive.” He smiled. “I miss her very much.” 
“How did she handle your father’s death?” You asked. 
Hyunjin’s eyes shifted away from your gaze. “Not well.” He sighed. “Her anxiety slowly started to eat her away. When I was young, I didn’t really have any friends because I was either studying or taking care of my mom. It was my job to make sure she didn’t kill herself.” 
Oh, God…
That shouldn’t have been Hyunjin’s job. Your heart broke for the boy. He never had a chance to be a kid — to go fall out of a tree and break his arm, to play tag with all the kids on the playground, to enjoy a bunch of toys during Christmas. The poor boy was trying to keep what was left of his family together. 
“Hyunjin, you’re such a good person.” You rested your hands on his cheeks. “Please remember that.” God, you wanted to kiss him right now. “Minho and I couldn’t imagine a life without you.”
Hyunjin froze. Sure, Minho had been a good friend to him so far, until… Until it really mattered. Until he was about to risk it all to break you out of the padded room — then Minho decided to bail. Suddenly his reputation at the institution mattered more than justice. 
Was Minho really trustworthy? At this point, Hyunjin didn’t know. Anxiety was slowly bubbling in his chest. If Minho really wanted to break out of the asylum, he wouldn’t care about his reputation. What if the older boy was planning to rat Hyunjin out?
Part of Hyunjin knew he was being unreasonable. Of course, it would look suspicious if all the doctors started to act out. They need someone on the inside to help them escape that godforsaken place. Still…
What were Minho’s intentions?
For the first time in his life, Hyunjin had a friend — someone he trusted with his life. He’d be devastated if Minho decided to rat them out. At Rosewood, who knew what would happen. With all the trouble Hyunjin has caused, he wouldn’t be surprised if he ended up dead in a ditch. 
“Hey, you okay?” You tilted your head, the cute movement shaking Hyunjin out of his negative thoughts. 
A sad smile took over Hyunjin’s features. “Minho and I just had a little spat.” 
“I’m sure you two will figure it out.” You hugged Hyunjin once more. “Anyone can tell that the two of you care about each other.” 
“I hope you’re right.” Hyunjin couldn’t help but smile as your body grew heavy on top of him. “Did you fall asleep on me?” Hyunjin chuckled when he heard no response. His eyes drifted shut as he held you close, exhaustion making him pass out underneath you.

After having back-to-back shifts, Hyunjin was exhausted. He slowly trudged back to the dorms, ready to plop in bed and sleep for a whole damn day. Thank God Chan agreed to cover him for the night shift so he could get some much-needed sleep. 
Hyunjin opened the door to the dorms and headed down the hallway, eyes widening when he spotted Minho unlocking his door. The older boy looked worn out, stressed, and upset — like he’d break down and cry any minute. If Hyunjin wasn’t so tired, he’d consider hiding behind the corner until Minho disappeared in his room, but frankly… Hyunjin was ready to drop any second. The boy strolled down the hall, heart dropping when Minho’s eyes landed on him. “Hey.” Minho waved, a fake smile taking over his features as he turned towards Hyunjin. “Long day?”
“Long day and night.” Hyunjin chuckled as he entered the code to his room, mentally cursing at himself when his index finger pressed the wrong number. “I stayed for the day shift after breaking her out of solitary confinement.” 
“Wow.” Minho’s brows creased as he fiddled with his thumbs. “Do you mind if I come in for a bit.” Minho paused. “I know you’re tired… I won’t stay long.”  
“Sure.” Hyunjin entered the correct code to his room, sighing as he pushed the heavy door open.
Minho walked in and plopped on the bed, ruffling the neat blankets — something that would have seriously irked Hyunjin if he wasn’t so tired. The boy was known for keeping things nice and neat. Every single morning, he made the bed, put his clothes in the hamper, tidied up, and then every night Minho would pop in and disrupt the clean environment by bouncing on the bed and checking out every picture frame Hyunjin had in the room. Oh, but Hyunjin enjoyed the boy’s company. 
“Yeah, make yourself at home.” Hyunjin chuckled as he neatly hung his jacket in the closet. “I wasn’t planning on sleeping tonight anyways.” 
Minho smiled — a genuine smile that made Hyunjin feel a little bit better. “Don’t be salty.” Minho’s face dropped as his gaze shifted to his hands. “I wanted to make sure we’re good.” 
“What do you mean?” Hyunjin figured it’d be best to play dumb vs. telling the boy how frustrated he was. 
“Don’t be an idiot.” Minho scoffed. “You left the room all pissed off. I didn’t want to upset you but —” 
“I get it.” Hyunjin pulled his uniform shirt off, tossing the garment into the laundry hamper neatly tucked in the corner. 
“No, you —” Minho paused, eyes widening as he scanned Hyunjin’s body. “Hey, are you taking care of yourself?” 
Hyunjin frowned as he looked down at his body. Sure he’s thinned out a bit, but he’s had a lot going on. “Yeah.” 
“No, you’re not.” Minho rolled his eyes and stood up. “I’ll be right back.” Hyunjin sighed as Minho ran out the door, cocking it open with one of Hyunjin’s shoes so the boy wouldn’t have to let him in again. 
Hyunjin quickly pulled on one of his hoodies, yanking the hood off his head before he slipped out of his work trousers. After throwing on some sweats, Hyunjin plopped in bed, fighting to keep his eyes open while he waited for Minho to get back from doing… whatever he was doing. 
Hyunjin was fighting a losing battle. 
“Oi, wake up.” Minho smacked Hyunjin’s shoulder, startling the boy awake. 
“I wasn’t asleep, I was just resting my eyes.” Hyunjin chuckled as he sat up, yawning. 
“Eat this.” Minho handed Hyunjin a bowl of ramen, decorated with various seasonings, hard-boiled eggs, and tons of vegetables and meat. 
“Did you seriously cook this for me?” Hyunjin took a big bite of the noodles, closing his eyes at the delicious taste. “It’s really good, thank you.” 
“Well, I put it together, but don’t give me too much credit. I just fancied up the packaged stuff.” Minho waved off Hyunjin’s compliment. He sat beside Hyunjin as the younger boy devoured the food. “I know you want to take care of her, but you need to make sure you’re eating properly. You’ll drop dead on the ground if you don’t take care of yourself.” 
Hyunjin sighed. “I know. You’re right.” Hyunjin set the empty bowl on his night-table, instantly dropping his head on Minho’s shoulder. “I just feel like something bad will happen if I leave her side — even for one second.” 
“If you need a break, come get me.” Minho leaned his head on top of Hyunjin’s. “I’ll watch her for you. You can trust me.” 
“Can I?” Hyunjin’s heart shattered as he sat up. “Oh my God, I didn’t —” 
“No, I get it.” Minho chuckled at Hyunjin’s pure panic. “I get it. It looks bad.” Minho sighed. “This institution is more fucked up than you know.”
“What do you know?” Hyunjin’s eyes bore into Minho’s. 
“When I first started working there, Jisung was my best friend.” Minho sighed. 
“Wait… Like your new patient Jisung?” Hyunjin’s eyes widened. 
Minho nodded. “Actually, Jisung has been my main patient for years. I took over David’s care as well because his caretaker disappeared.” Minho pursed his lips. “Jisung and I found one of our coworkers, Dr. Greg, arguing with Dr. Henry in the hallway. Dr. Greg was trying to quit and Dr. Henry told him that wasn’t an option.” Minho sighed. “Security came in and took out his knees Hyunjin. They almost beat him to death.” 
“Oh my God.” Hyunjin rested his hand on Minho’s shoulder. “I’m sorry you had to see that.” 
“The next week, Dr. Greg was a patient in a wheelchair.” Minho chuckled darkly. “No one fucking questioned it. Jisung and I decided that the institution was fucked up and we needed to leave.” He sighed. “We knew quitting and walking out wasn’t an option, based off what happened to Dr. Greg, so we came up with a plan to escape and we set a date to leave.” 
“Jisung found another doctor who wanted to get out of there, so he met with us a week before we left and changed up our plan a little bit.” Minho sighed. “I didn’t really trust him, and he changed our plan…” Minho trailed off. “I was afraid that he was sharing our plan with security or something. I couldn’t stop seeing flashbacks of Dr. Greg getting beat near death.” Minho’s hands shook as he grabbed Hyunjin’s forearm. “I decided I wasn’t going to go with them.” 
“You were scared you’d get killed.” Hyunjin held the boy’s hand. “That’s understandable.” 
“Jisung didn’t think so.” Minho scoffed. “He got upset and he said that he’d leave without me. I told him that was fine.” Minho started to tear up a bit. “I tried to look out for him the best I could, but when he tried to climb the gate, the guards found him.” 
“Oh, God…” Hyunjin trailed off. He knew this story wasn’t going to have a happy ending.
“I watched my best friend get beaten and I couldn’t find the courage to go help him.” Tears ran down Minho’s face. 
“No.” Hyunjin grabbed the boy’s shoulders. “Don’t you do that to yourself. If you went down there, you could have gotten killed.” 
“Even that would have been better than me standing there and watching him take all those punches.” Minho wiped the tears off his cheeks. 
“No. Don’t say shit like that.” Hyunjin pulled the boy into his chest, comforting him the best he could. “I would have been murdered the first week if I didn’t have you.” 
Minho couldn’t help but chuckle. “Yeah probably.” 
“So don’t say stuff like that.” Hyunjin rubbed soothing circles on Minho’s back, making the boy’s eyes drift shut. 
“You’re a natural comforter aren’t you?” Minho chuckled, trying to change the subject. “You’re good at this.” 
“I’ve had to be.” Hyunjin smiled sadly. “I used to have to do this for my mother when I was a kid…” Hyunjin trailed off. “If I didn’t, she’d lose her mind.” Hyunjin paused. “She’d get violent and hurt me…” He couldn’t find the right words. “But it wasn’t her fault. She had PTSD from the time she was raped.”
“Oh my God, Hyunjin I’m sorry.” Minho sat up, looking the younger boy in the eyes. Hyunjin looked lost, sad, and afraid. 
Hyunjin’s eyes dropped down to his lap. “I think I’m a rape baby.” 
Minho’s eyes widened. “What? No that can’t be true.” 
“There were so many signs Minho.” Hyunjin pursed his lips. “I don’t look like my father, my dad wanted nothing to do with me, my mother was afraid of me.” He scoffed. “I had to put her in a home because she tried to kill me one day.” Hyunjin leaned back against the headboard. “I must look just like him.” 
“Is that why you took this job?” Minho’s brows creased.  
“Yep,” Hyunjin mumbled. “I could work anywhere, but I couldn’t afford rent since they were all entry-level jobs.” He sighed. “This one gave me room and board and enough money to survive.” 
“Fuck.” Minho sighed. “We’re both fucked up but you take the cake.” 
“What a fucked up competition to win.” Hyunjin chuckled darkly. 
“You know you’re nothing like your father, right?” Minho rested his hand on Hyunjin’s shoulder. “If your theory is true, you’re nothing like him.” 
Hyunjin smiled at Minho. “Thanks.” 
“Seriously. You’re the kindest person I’ve ever met, you care so much about others, you’re the prettiest guy on earth, and you’re super smart.” Minho tried to comfort the boy the best he could. 
“So are we going to kiss now or what?” Hyunjin burst out into a fit of giggles when Minho pushed him off the bed. 
“I try to be nice and you gotta do me dirty.” Minho crossed his arms over his chest. 
“Thank you.” Hyunjin smiled and hopped back on the bed. “Can you stay the night?” He felt awkward asking the boy to stay over, but he really didn’t want to be alone. “I feel…” 
“You don’t need to give me a reason.” Minho chuckled. “Just give me clothes to wear and I’ll stay the night.” 
Hyunjin laughed. “Just go through that dresser over there and pick out whatever you want lazy bones.” 
Minho panned through the dresser before picking a pair of shorts and a hoodie. After changing Minho plopped next to Hyunjin. “I hope you know that you’re a ray of hope in that damn hospital.” 
“Hm?” Hyunjin cocked his brow. “How so? It feels like all I’ve done is fuck everything up.”
“I always figured I’d stay at the institution until I died, but you gave me hope. After you showed up I started to think that maybe, we have a chance. Maybe we can live normal lives outside this place.” Minho sighed. “I miss my family.” 
“I bet.” Hyunjin sighed. “I’m scared too.” 
“Who said I was afraid?” Minho scoffed. 
“Your eyes.” Hyunjin laughed. “Your eyes are the windows to your soul. I can always tell how you’re feeling through your eyes.” 
“Well damn.” Minho chuckled. “That was straight-up poetic.” 
“I try.” Hyunjin shrugged. “But when it comes to Y/N, I fumble like an idiot.” 
“Oh?” Minho leaned forward and wiggled his eyebrows. “Did something happen?”
“Well, she told me she loves me.” Hyunjin grinned, a light blush coating his cheeks. “I don’t think she meant it in that way though. I’m happy she trusts me.” 
Minho physically facepalmed. “You’re kidding me right?” 
“What?” Hyunjin chuckled. 
“You realize she like, love loves you right? Like, she wants to make out with you under the stars and marry your dumb-ass and live the rest of her life with you.” Minho rolled his eyes and leaned back into the headboard. “Oh my God, you seriously don’t know?”
“Don’t know what?” Hyunjin flushed darker. “She doesn’t love me like that.” 
Minho grabbed Hyunjin’s shoulders and shook him. “Yes, she does!” 
“Well, it doesn’t matter.” Hyunjin sighed. “I don’t love her in that way.” 
“Bullshit,” Minho smirked. “You grin like an idiot every time you talk about her. Plus, what you do for her isn’t normal.” 
“I would do those things for any patient.” Hyunjin chuckled. 
“Nope. I doubt you would.” Minho laughed. “Please just admit that you love her so Chan and I can stop trying to get you guys together.” 
“Oh my God, please tell me you haven’t —” Hyunjin groaned. 
“Yep.” Minho chuckled. “I’ve been telling her how awesome you are during my shifts.” He laughed. “I’ve hyped you up, so grow some balls and kiss her or something.” 
“It’s complicated.” Hyunjin giggled. “But thank you.” 
A comfortable silence passed, until Minho asked, “Do you want to meet Jisung?” 
Hyunjin smiled. “Of course. Can she come?”
Minho chuckled. “Yes, the love of your life can come too.” 
“Hey, she’s not the love of my life.” Hyunjin couldn’t stop the stupid grin that took over his face. 
“Mhmm. Keep telling yourself that.” Minho chuckled as he laid down, turning his back to Hyunjin. “Get some sleep so we can function tomorrow.” 
Hyunjin laid beside Minho, the feeling of the older boy’s back against his being oddly comforting. He couldn’t help but wonder if Minho was right. Did he love you? 
Yes — yes he did, but how on earth was he going to tell you? Before Hyunjin could come up with an answer, exhaustion took over, putting the boy to sleep instantly.

Summary: After worrying about Thor, Hulk, Scrapper 142, and Loki in their fight against Hela, [Y/N] finally gets a response from the trickster god. But it’s not an answer to her question. In fact, it just raises more questions for her!
Note From Author: I finally finished this part! Thank you so much for being so patient with me and I hope that this is worth the long wait. I know Endgame came out nearly a whole year ago and I wanted to get the parts about Infinity War up after watching Endgame, but it’s been hard to find the motivation to keep going during these times. I hope all of you are healthy!
Part 11 - Warning
Since Loki’s visit, a day had barely passed.
[Y/N] could hardly calm down, let alone eat, as a foreboding feeling kept nagging within her heart. She couldn’t shake that ominous premonition that deeply rooted itself in her mind and her imagination ran wild on all kinds of scenarios that could have been happening. Thor, struggling to help both his people and fight his overpowered sister at the same time. Hulk rampaging around, mindlessly attacking whoever he was supposed to fight, possibly getting overwhelmed with numbers and destroying a large portion of Asgard. Scrapper 142 struggling against Hela, someone who had scarred her many, many years ago… And Loki with his rebel forces he claimed were with him as backup for his brother.
She had no idea how strong Hela was, the forces she commanded, and the state Asgard was in but she knew the Goddess of Death was very strong. Powerful enough to wipe out all of the fearsome Valkyrie at least, and Scrapper 142, the last surviving Valkyrie, was by no means weak. However, all [Y/N] could do now was anxiously wait for any news.
Throughout the day she desperately tried to get her mind off of Ragnarok. She tried taking a walk, visiting Peter and Ned, watching TV, amongst other things, but nothing helped. Not only that, but an overwhelming sense of drowsiness had washed over her a few hours after her talk with Loki. It nagged at her, forcing her eyes closed only to have her jolt awake before she collapsed from sleep mid walk.
Peter was very worried about her when she nearly fell over while walking down the busy streets of New York. He insisted that she go home, not giving her any room to argue. Defeated, she tried coffee, but that didn’t help either as her eyelids grew heavier and heavier by the minute.
Finally giving in to her exhaustion, [Y/N] rested her head on her bed and was out like a light.
Though sleeping should have been blissful, given that she was very mentally drained from all the stress and anxiety, something strange happened to her. It felt as though she was floating, rising up from her own body and flying out of her small room. She could see the world shrinking below her as she continued up higher and higher into the sky, gradually increasing in speed, but she was too tired to fight against this. So she followed the will of whatever force was pulling at her, shooting her through space and past the stars, towards a destination unknown.
Then, she came to an abrupt stop.
She blinked a few times, her eyes adjusting to the dim lighting. Her body felt foreign, as though she wasn’t actually there. Her feet felt like they were on solid ground but… They also felt as though they could sink through the solid material without a problem. She could hear things and yet… They sounded distant. [Y/N] could feel heat radiating around her, the sound of fire crackling in her ears, but at the same time… It also felt cold. She could still feel the gentle breeze of home, the window being slightly cracked open and the air brushing against her sleeping body.
Finally, [Y/N]’s eyes adjusted just enough so that she could make out her surroundings and in that moment… She desperately wished she hadn’t.
The carnage around her was brutal and cruel. She could feel her heart race inside her chest, but it felt as though it were beating miles and miles away. Someone was talking, but she couldn’t register the words at all. The only thing she could focus on were the lifeless bodies scattered on the floor around her.
Walking around, avoiding stepping on the fallen, she steeled her nerves and bravely examined their faces. She didn’t know these people. All of them were strangers to her. It made her stomach, the one lying in her bed so far from this place, churn uncomfortably. She could hear someone screaming, but who wouldn’t in all this destruction?
“Oh my God,” she breathed out, her legs growing weak.
No one seemed to hear her. No one seemed to notice she was there. No one… Except for one man.
[Y/N] locked sights with the most beautiful pair of eyes she had ever seen. They were so golden and bright, brimming with a sort of power she could never hope to understand. Those eyes belonged to a wounded man who was lying on the floor. Injured but… Alive.
She hurried over to the fallen man, but when she reached out to help him, her hand phased through his body. [Y/N] couldn’t touch him or anything else. Confused and a bit frustrated, she looked back at the stranger, who seemed to be much wiser and older than her. Maybe… Maybe he wasn’t human…
“Did you send me here?” [Y/N] questioned, her voice gentle, though internally she wanted to shake him for answers.
“Who are you? Why am I here? Why can’t I touch anything? What happened here?!” The questions swarmed her, but she masked her internal distress and showed only a picture of calm with a tinge of worry.
But the man said nothing. Instead, he looked over at something else. No… At someone else.
“Alright, stop!”
[Y/N] knew that voice. She recognized it immediately since she had heard it only hours ago. Dread filled her as she turned around, facing the man who had yelled out those words. That was when she saw him.
Loki.
The God of Mischief was exactly how he was when he had visited her. His clothes. His hair. Everything was the same. But she couldn’t see his face. He wasn’t turned towards her. No, he was facing…
“Thor!” She gasped, but no one reacted to her voice. They all seemed to be deaf to her words.
Everything about Thor seemed unchanged since she had last seen him. Everything… Except his eye. It was covered by some sort of patch, indicating what must have happened after they parted, but [Y/N] couldn’t focus on that right now. Instead, she concentrated more on his head being firmly held by large hands of an alien she did not know.
The stranger’s whole body was a light purple color, though it looked darker in the dim lights of the broken room. His golden gloved hand, perhaps a gauntlet of some sort, stopped glowing with that unnatural power, moving away from Thor’s head. Thor stopped screaming in pain, going limp in the alien’s hand. He looked so… So defeated… Drained of so much energy.
She wanted to hurry over to Thor’s side. She wanted to force her powers to pry the alien’s hands off of him and save him from all this pain, but no matter how much she struggled to send out her energy, she could only feel it distantly react way back where her actual body lay. Nothing happened.
Since the discovery of her powers, this was the first time she was unable to use them. It was like her armor and without it… She felt utterly naked.
“We don’t have the Tesseract,” Thor coughed out, his voice rough from all the screaming. “It was destroyed on Asgard.”
Tesseract? [Y/N] quickly looked over at Loki, but he still did not face her. Please… Don’t tell me that thing you used on Earth…
Going against her silent prayers, the god lifted up his arm and in his open hand slowly appeared a glowing blue cube. The energy radiating off of it hummed with power and the purple man smiled in satisfaction as [Y/N]’s heart plummeted.
“You… really are the worst brother,” Thor huffed, out of breath from whatever struggle had led him to be in the hands of this monster.
“I assure you, Brother,” Loki began, stepping carefully over to the alien with the Tesseract in his hand, “the sun will shine on us again.”
“Your optimism is misplaced, Asgardian,” the stranger said, his low voice rumbling throughout the whole place.
“Well, for one thing, I’m not Asgardian,” the god replied, the Tesseract still in his hand as he looked up at the towering enemy, “And for another…” He paused, taking in a breath, “We have the Hulk.”
As if on cue, Hulk barreled into the purple man just as Loki jumped onto Thor to get him out of the way. The Tesseract clattered onto the ground, but no one noticed it as the focus landed on the fight between Hulk and the alien. Hulk threw his fists and landed many punches onto the stranger, seemingly winning, when the words of another alien broke that glimmer of hope.
“Let him have his fun.”
The tides turned against Hulk as the purple man threw his own punches and dodged all of Hulk’s. He seemed ultimately unfazed by Hulk’s earlier bombardment of hits and fought him as if he were heartlessly fighting a child. As the battle continued, the spark of hope grew dimmer and dimmer.
“Stop,” [Y/N] began, moving forward while forgetting that no one could hear her.
She tried to run at the alien, to use her body weight to at least knock him off balance, but she phased through him and stumbled onto the ground. She tried to grab onto the purple being, but her hands merely passed through him. She tried to stand between him and the Hulk, but they couldn’t see her and continued fighting. Fists and blows phased through her as though she were air, and nothing she did stopped them. Finally, on the brink of despair, [Y/N] fell to her knees with tears streaming down her face.
“Stop! Please!” She begged, knowing that her pleas fell to deaf ears.
[Y/N] felt so useless as no one heard her beg and plead.
Then, she noticed another pair of eyes on her. She looked up to find Loki’s eyes briefly on her, staring right into her, before swiftly turning away. He could hear her. He could see her. That was when it clicked. If the golden-eyed stranger wasn’t the one who had brought her here, then it must have been Loki. But why?
Confusion, anguish, and rage bubbled in her heart. Her breathing became ragged as she tried to control her chaotic emotions. She made a move towards him but-
The sounds of the fight broke her concentration on the god as she quickly turned back to the alien and the Hulk. With one last hit, Hulk was knocked unconscious and no longer got back up. His bloody, beaten up face and the alien’s uninjured body showed just how strong the other side was.
Thor, ignoring the odds, hit the purple man with some sort of metal rod. It clattered onto the ground, echoing in the open space, but it didn’t even faze the alien. He merely turned to Thor and with a swift kick, he sent him flying backwards.
“Thor!” [Y/N] cried out, but her voice could not reach him. She knew that and yet she still screamed.
The god grunted in pain, barely standing up, when the other alien - the thinner, more pale one - moved his hand and metal went flying at Thor. The pieces of the ship latched onto him, imprisoning Thor and stopping him from making any more moves.
“Allfathers…” She heard the fallen man mutter, turning her attention back to the golden-eyed stranger. He strained to speak through the pain that seemed to radiate from his abdomen, “Let the dark magic flow through me one last…” He winced, holding out his hand, towards where the Hulk lay, “time.”
A rainbow of light streamed in, phasing through the metal walls of the ship, and engulfed the Hulk. His eyes slightly fluttered open, briefly regaining a bit of his consciousness, before floating up from the bright beam, and then was sent flying to the other side of the ship, vanishing without a trace. Everyone turned to the injured man, who breathed heavily from the efforts of the act he had just committed. It was clear that the purple giant, who had walked towards the fallen golden-eyed man, was not happy.
“That was a mistake,” he said as he grabbed the weapon another alien offered. With one swift, heartless blow, the stranger plunged the pointed staff downwards, straight into the already injured man.
“NO!!!” Thor roared as the monster plunged the weapon deeper while [Y/N] helplessly turned away.
She didn’t want to see anymore.
[Y/N] was right there, invisible to everyone else, and yet she could do nothing to stop it. So much blood had been shed. So much she couldn’t prevent. She wanted to return to her body back on Earth. She wanted to curl up in her bed and cry. She wanted to throw up all the contents in her stomach, which wasn’t much, but she couldn’t even do that. Something was keeping her there. So she had to stay. She had to watch. And it killed her inside.
“You’re going to die for that,” Thor promised, his rage seeping out from his tired and imprisoned body, but the aliens didn’t look bothered by his threats. Instead, that thin alien, who seemed to be the right-hand man of the purple one, waved his hand. The metal pieces around him followed his silent command as they wrapped around Thor’s mouth, preventing him from speaking anymore.
“Shhh,” the alien hushed, raising a long, bony finger in front of his mouth.
[Y/N] finally stood up from the floor, casting one regretful glance at the fallen man, before making her way over to Thor’s side. If she couldn’t be seen, heard, or touched, she might as well be beside her friend who must have suffered greatly from all this carnage. Her hand brushed against him to confirm that he didn’t notice her at all, and then she settled next to him. While she stood beside Thor, the Tesseract was given to the purple alien, the cube crushed in his bare hands, and the glowing stone from within placed in his golden gauntlet. She witnessed it all, yet she could do nothing about it.
“There are two more stones on Earth,” the giant alien spoke, admiring the stone’s power, “Find them, my children, and bring them to me on Titan.”
“Father we will not fail you,” the one female alien answered as they all bowed before him.
“If I might interject,” a voice rang out, interrupting their show of loyalty, as the God of Mischief called attention to himself, “If you’re going to Earth, you might want a guide. I do have a bit of experience in that arena.”
“Loki,” [Y/N] huffed, sending sharp glares at the god. “Why did you bring me here?! Why are you making me watch this?! What exactly are you planning?!”
But he didn’t answer. Perhaps he couldn’t answer her. Not without alerting the others, anyways. Still, she had grown impatient. How could she not when being forced to watch this massacre?
Instead, Loki made his way over to the purple man, his smile unfaltering as their conversation continued. [Y/N] didn’t know what Loki’s intentions were, but she knew he was always full of schemes and ideas, so there had to be a reason for bringing her here. For making her witness all of this. And it had better be a good one.
“Almighty Thanos, I, Loki, prince of Asgard…” He began, then paused, looking down at the floor, “Odinson…” Loki glanced over at his brother, the two making eye contact as something was shared between them with that one word, “the rightful king of Jotunheim,” he continued as he faced the purple alien again, “God of Mischief,” a blade appeared in his hand, hidden behind the rest of his arm but clearly visible to Thor and [Y/N], “do hereby pledge to you-”
“No!” [Y/N] cried, realizing what he intended, “Stop! I know you can hear me, you bastard! Don’t you dare-”
“-my undying fidelity,” Loki finished, ignoring [Y/N] as he bowed his head slightly.
Taking in one final breath, the god thrust his blade upwards towards Thano’s head. However, the blade stopped before it could reach flesh, the blue infinity stone obeying the purple giant’s command and preventing Loki’s hand from moving another inch.
“Undying?” The monster - Thanos - repeated, a smug smile on his face, as he used his gauntlet-free hand to grab onto Loki’s extended arm. “You should choose your words more carefully.”
The god winced at the amount of force and unwillingly let go of his blade. It fell to the floor, clattering with the sound of metal on metal. Pulling Loki slightly forward, Thanos used his other hand to wrap around the god’s neck. The infinity stone was no longer needed as he raised Loki higher off the floor. Loki struggled against Thanos’ grip, but it was a futile effort. The alien was just too powerful.
“No,” [Y/N] whispered, crumpling to the ground. “Why?!” She hated seeing this. She hated not being able to do anything. She hated being so useless. So why? Why did she have to witness this? What was the end goal? “Why are you making me watch this?!”
But as she expected, no one would answer her.
“You,” Loki strained to be heard as his throat was slowly being crushed, “will never be…” He struggled to finish, the veins on his head visible as life was gradually being choked out of him. “...a god.”
Midgardian, she heard him whisper silently in her head, a voice that was so weak and quiet yet still having that signature sly tone of his.
“Alien,” [Y/N] murmured back, her voice breaking slightly as she stared at Loki’s struggling figure.
Though it was very faint, she heard him chuckle. It was a tickling sensation that brushed across her mind, but she wasn’t granted enough time to even register it.
There was a soft crack, and then everything seemed to spiral out of control. [Y/N]’s body was thrown off the ship and was propelled through space at a sickening speed. She barreled towards her limp body, slamming into it and then suddenly wheezed as she jolted up on her bed.
Sweat covered her body as tears streamed down her face. She gasped for air, as if she was the one being choked by Thanos, and stumbled down onto the floor. Though she felt weak all over, she managed to stagger into the bathroom and heaved up everything within her stomach, her head just above the toilet bowl.
It took her a few minutes to gather her thoughts.
The cool bathroom tiles felt nice against her skin and she flushed before finally getting up. Washing off the bile that coated her lips, not even bothering to wipe off the excess water, she wandered back to her bed. Looking around the quiet room, alone in the sunlight streaming in through all the windows, she noticed that the whole place was a mess. All those times she had tried to use her abilities to help must have affected the surroundings here and not where Thor and Loki were… Everything was in a chaotic display, but still silent. Well, except for the sobbing that had escaped her.
Unable to do much else, she hugged her knees to her chest and cried. She desperately wanted this all to be a dream. She wanted someone to tell her that it was all just a nightmare, to have Loki just materialize out of nowhere and laugh at the sick joke he had just played. But he did not appear. And she knew that it was all real.
[Y/N] wished she could continue to bawl and tire herself out so that sleep could erase these memories. To let all these bottled up emotions out and forget the whole thing, but… This wasn’t the time to cry. Thanos had told his “children” to go retrieve the other two stones on Earth.
They were coming.
Wiping away her tears, she bolted off the bed and hurried to dress up, throwing on whatever clothes she had lying around, and ran out the apartment door. There wasn’t even time to close or lock it, as she continued to race out into the open streets of New York. She wasn’t even sure she would return there, knowing the battle that was coming ahead, but she couldn’t allow herself to think too hard on it.
[Y/N] now knew why Loki had made her watch that whole event. He had known he would die and that Thor would be left alone. Hulk was sent somewhere by that golden-eyed man but she didn’t know where. All she knew was that Thanos was heading towards Earth. She had to warn the Avengers, both ex-members and current ones, but how?
Reaching for the phone she usually kept in her pocket, her heart sank when there was no familiar bulk there.
“Shit,” she cursed as she continued charging down the street, not turning back for the forgotten phone.
Tony has a way to reach Steve, [Y/N] thought to herself, He needs to know this too so I’ll just have to find him!
Suddenly, a familiar, sparking circle opened up right in front of her. This time it wasn’t like a wormhole but a link to another place on Earth. She could see people on the other side, some moving out of the way, but she was unable to stop at this point. Bracing herself, she ran straight into the portal and crashed into someone. She didn’t even have time to activate her powers and faced the full tackle head-on. The two groaned in pain, landing on top of one another after the collision.
“A little warning next time,” [Y/N] grumbled, rubbing her sore head.
God, I really hate magic.
“[Y/N]?”
The voice that called out her name wasn’t the one she was expecting. She looked down at the person she had toppled onto and was in for another surprise.
“Bruce?!”

recap step 1: using brain hurts for rec

Recap step 4: bakery or morgue first? Meco wants bread, but Rax claims all bread eventually goes to the morgue.... but as we're here for crocnappings there was an unanimous agreement to visit the tavern
Recap step 5: everyone is wearing crocs. if you're not wearing crocs you get thrown out
recap step 6: we look at everyones crocs for way to long and then notice a man with scuffed crocs. we ask him about the crocnapping and he exclaims his families crocs got stolen and he got cast out of town. rax blesses his crocs and makes them hella fresh B)
recap step 7: meco has a black dog familiar recap step 7.1: dont pet the dog dont pet the dog not right now dont pet recap step 7.2: but it's such a good dog, must pet the dog!! recap step 7.3: decided to go push to talk

recap step 23: we went in the mines and found a spooky box covered in vines. we investigated and found that it was weird and magic. then some bats attacked so we did the most prudent action possible by adding a music bot to our channel and booming pokemon battle music on max volume

recap step 25: theres a swarm of bats but charlie just fucking DEMOLISHES one of the bats in particular
Recap 26: Rax takes out a magic croc, and aims a guiding bolt at one of the swarms of bats. Rax instantly fucking kills it. the bat corpses are still glowing

Recap 32: Rax attacks the bat swarm and it dodges (probably??). Meco eldritch BLASTs the swarm and it is eviscerated out of existance.

Recap 34: Charlie swings at the bat and misses. Rax casts a spell that turns the bat swarm to mush. combat FINALLY ends!!

Recap 36: FINALLY WE OPEN THE CHEST COVERED IN VINES AAANNNDDD... its full of pickaxes ;-;... Charlie opens the next chest AANNNDDD... its a mimic oh god oh f!! The party books it back into town and decides to sleep.
Recap 37: Our DM hopes we get hit by the mimic and says fuck when the mimic misses ;-;
Recap 38: Meco totally obliterates the mimic by shooting an eldritch blast right into its mouth. Rax marvels at the beautiful destruction and prays to it. Leq recites some poetry about crocs to soothe our souls. Charlie meanwhile takes a short rest and the wounds slowly heal up

Recap 39: Our DM finds out that the fight created at 2 AM had a challenge rating that translates to our current lvl as deadly and this thing practically 1 hit kills us all. It has fake shoes. And stolen crocs

recap step 48: Rax tries to throw his shining pristine divine croc relic in the cave to distract the shambling mound, after all it has been stealing them all along. The shambling mound is blind and dumb and it aggravates the shambling mound. Rax cries
recap step 49: Charlie blasts the shambling mound with lightning and supercharges it with health. Charlie runs away while crying. Charlie was the only one fit for saving us as they have full hp. We are all crying
recap step 50: The council absolutely refuses to go down and keeps getting back up. Rax is dragging a prone Meco and Charlie is nimbly avoiding the shambling mound with a disengage whilst dragging Leq out of there

Recap step end!!: Shambling mound destroyed, Charlie saves every and single one of the crocs from the rotting burned chopped up corpse. Rax mends all of the crocs to return to their families whilst. Rax pours oil on the corpse while Meco burns it with a torches while appeasing the great void. The mayor is told of what has happened and the council returns after a mission accomplished.
