Maniacal Double Life [Group 2-Session 1]

so.

I didn't record the Double Life session and havent really talked about it outside of the discord server for it and i kinda talked about this a little bit and stuff?

so let me fill you in on what happened (except its a little old now)

(there were some other problems besides just my power going out lmao??? so i couldnt join for awhile because it just.. wouldnt let me? and then i realized it was telling me i had an outdated client and apparently it was 1.19.1 and not 1.19??? bRO even the admin didnt know lOl-- rip optifine though, the zoom man sobs??? also i dont know where the fuck the enchanting table went- i think i saw it like once and that was for a split second because i was moving my attention to a tree.)

basically while waiting (because you dont get your soulmates immediately ofc) and there were people waiting for everyone to join i think? (my power literally went out when it hit 6 PM, which was when the session was starting sobs), I just kinda gathered materials LMAO I got really lucky and I got myself into a ravine with a LOT of iron and made tools, and a water bucket w/ a shield?? i dont remember if i had armor or not and then the server had to be put on hold for a moment and kicked everyone??? i dont remember why but i think there were some difficulties- and when i rejoined i just FORGOT i had mobs surrounding me and proceeded to die and i didnt have the coords?? (and the f3 screen got so confusing wtf idk where shit is) so i just lost all my stuff LOL luckily that part wasnt canon though? the deaths dont count until you actually get your soulmate

so then sOULMATE TIME

i kinda found my soulmate after some time and uhh.. -i mean we did kinda okay? we didnt get as lucky and uh.. there were a lot of near death experiences LMAO ALSO ALSO ALSO so when we put down our beds on like this little mountain we're rooming on,

a creeper just came by and fucking blew it up SO WE DIDNT HAVE SPAWN ANYMORE---

and then the SECOND time we put our beds down there was ANOTHER creeper that blew it up and i think my partner was afk or something and i just PANICKED and punched my partner CLOSER TO THE CREEPER AS I SCREAMED????

bro im so fucking glad my partner didnt die sobs that wouldve been a stupid way to go and i dont even remember the way back to the mountain lmAO though theres like only one other pair besides us so its kinda.. a little awkward? i mean if you do something its clear who did it but like i think other people will be joining by session 2 or something? not to mention school happening meaning a lot of more people might be switched to group 2 or something, i dunno how it works but if it does happen, then well-- theyd probably be from group 1?? cause so group 1 for session 1 had ran from 2-4 pm, and group 2 ran from 6-8 pm

but with school happening the time theyre free might be different now??

i dont know its weird

but uh, the other soulmate pair i dont even know where they are? (we're like fuckin isolated id think? but theres this person from that other soulmate pair that kept coming over and giving gifts [they gave us wool when our beds fuckin blew up lmao- fOR FREE???])

AND THEY HAVE DIAMONDS? or someone has diamonds i dont know i just remember seeing a diamond achievement sobs i dont think we even have iron armor ??? we just have fuckin leather boots or something

huge fan of how they did this 1.20 update so far. the changes really do feel like “they are doing things to make minecraft more minecraft”, just adding several small things that makes everything feel nicer is exactly what i want from an update. just… small details! huge fan of that! also a big fan of them going “we are only going to show you features that are done”. it does mean we don’t actually get to know what they’re planning until it’s about to be in a snapshot, which will be an adjustment, but it’ll prevent all the nonsense that happened around 1.19, so I’m a fan. overall, like how 1.20 is looking!

“Alright,” Jevin says, “now you just have to give the egg basket back.”

Grian stares at him with big, black, soulful eyes, and holds the basket closer to himself. “...give... you... the eggs...?”

Jevin closes his eyes and mentally counts to five before opening them again. “Yeah. That was the point of the game, right? Collect the eggs and then give them back to prove you’d found them.”

Grian continues to stare.

“So you hand me the basket...”

“Are... are you keeping an eye on them?” Grian asks.

“Keeping an eye on the eggs.”

“Well, it’s a dangerous world out there,” Grian says. “You never know when some maniac with TNT might show up. Probably best to just keep these in my ne- base. Keep these in my base.”

“A maniac with TNT?“ says Jevin, in a tone of voice he hopes conveys exactly who the maniac with TNT normally is on the server.

“You never know,” Grian says. “You’ve seen the eggs now. You know I found them. Really, what do you need all those eggs for? Surely you won’t miss these, right?”

Jevin sighs. “Yes, but I need the eggs to prove you didn’t cheat. You can’t win unless you turn them in.”

Grian stares blankly at Jevin, big black eyes watering as he tries to decide between winning (a thing Grian is very bad at giving up on) and, presumably, some stupid bird instinct that’s refusing to let him let go of the eggs. Jevin’s not sure which one is winning. He is sure, however, that he is slightly regretting making the egg hunt actually use eggs.

Because, he thinks wryly, it’s hardly just Grian.

“Jevin,” Doc says, landing on the platform to the egg hunt central area. Grian makes a sound somewhere between a hiss and a squawk and pulls his shulker full of carefully-padded and protected eggs closer to his chest. “I have found all of my eggs.”

“Excellent! Now, if you’ll hand them over -”

Doc is holding a shulker close to his chest. “Give you my eggs? Don’t be ridiculous.”

...the worst part, Jevin thinks, as he tries to figure out how to negotiate with a bunch of hybrids who haven’t slept in too long and therefore don’t realize they’re being irrational, is that the others are almost certainly going to insist on playing again next year. Something about optimal hiding spots. Next year, though, he swears: he’s not calling them eggs.

general writing advice, actually: you don’t need an excuse beyond “BUT WOULDN’T THIS BE COOL” to write something into your fic. write things in solely because they make you cackle with the delight of a 12-year-old-boy playing with his dinosaur toys. it’s fun and there’s nothing stopping you or any of us at all any longer.

Through hell and back

Just a small note before continuing, this contains spoiler for the latest episodes of the Double Life smp, especially Pearl and Scott. Please proceed with caution.

Tw: blood mentions, injury mentions, mental health problems. Please don't read if you are triggered by any of this!

The fic is under the cut (if it works)

The next Scott sees Pearl, she looks like she's been to hell and back.

Her hoodie is now red, and there's a bruise under her left eye. Her ankles are blue with frost bite, and her knuckles are raw and red. There's a gash down her arm where a skeleton seems to have shot her.

Tears streaks cut through the grime on her cheeks, and maniacal laughter escapes her mouth. Her eyes scream "murder! danger!" which is normally reserved for red names. Scott does not like that Pearl has lost her mind so quickly.

Even worse, he can feel the cracking of her mind. He can't help but feel it is somewhat his fault, although he can't possibly be to blame for everything, right?

Scott stares at his communicator. Honestly, he's not surprised. What he is surprised by, however, is that when he and Cleo drop by the Box to loot Ren and Bigb's stuff, Pearl is there. Deranged and delirious, she tries to stop them stealing stuff. They relent, and leave. Despite that, when Ren returns, he banishes Pearl from the Box, and Scott can feel the pang of hurt from Pearl. The same he felt when he rejected her.

Yeah, Scott thinks. She's not ok.
