LAS HORAS EXTRA
Mara Pastor
Poesía puertorriqueña, 2024
ISBN 978-987-4430-31-1

sermon notes with some drawings of my hands / pastor, and the 8th day calendar for the month; my pastor said my hebrew name was too bitter to call me by so he gave me the nickname joy and now everyone at the church calls me joy -- feels a little bit like mara erasure, but it:s the first time someone has given me a nickname (i think?)

You Were Marked: Masterlist
<;-You Were Marked: Prologue.
“How much?”
Greef chuckled.  “You won’t believe it.”
“Try me.”
“167 Ossum Aurodium coins.”
“You’re full of shit.”
“I won't argue with that, but that’s what the man says, as far as we can tell.  He’s using a language that we don’t recognize.  I’ve run it through all the translators that I have at my disposal, and it sounds like ‘Dooch ay mi mara thel ay ur dal red woor.’ That’s why no one’s touched it, that and the Aurodium.  No one thinks it’s a genuine bounty.  And the fact that the system is so far off the maps it’s not even on the Empire’s radar.”
“What's the name of the system?”
“Unmanarall.”
“Never heard of it.”
“No one has.  But it has … sketchy coordinates.  It’s way out there …. 4 or 5 days by hyperspace. Perhaps more.”
“Is there an image of the target?”
“No.”
“No?”
“Technically speaking, this bounty didn’t even come through the guild.  It was a sub-space message on a really broad broadcast.  The message starts with “Bounty Hunter”, and then the “Dooch ay mi” whatever.  Over and over.  So, I downloaded it to a puck, but that’s all I have.  Take it or not, I don’t care.  It’s probably not even as worthwhile as a blue milk run, but it would get you and the kid out of town, and you might find something interesting.”
“Or I waste all my fuel and my time and come up empty.”
“Challenge of life, my friend.”
Din stood unmoving for a long moment.  This trip would probably be nothing but folly, but the fact was he was bored and Nevarro was getting on his nerves.  Greef had been continually teasing him regarding a tract of land to “retire” and raise the boy in some sort of pastoral contentment.  Grogu really should be in training at the cloister with the other younglings, but Din hadn’t been able to bring himself to do that, much to his dismay.  “Content” was a word that he was struggling with, and the terms “mercenary” and “aurodium” had a much stronger pull.  Din took the puck off the desktop and plucked Grogu from the spinning chair. “Ret'urcye mhi.”
“Right back at you, friend.”
-- Day One --
The trip was long and uneventful, closer to five days than four.  The coordinates that he had – which were indeed sketchy – seemed to take him to the actual outer edge of the Outer Rim.  There were a couple of rocks in this system, revolving around a mediocre yellow sun, and one of them was an insignificant blue-green ball with a small moon, and that seemed to suit the purpose.  Din deftly maneuvered the Razor Crest through the outer atmosphere and through a thick cloudbank to reveal a large landmass with a brilliant blue sea, many river tributaries, and a mixture of mountains, rocky plains, and dense forest.  It was the same as a thousand other planets in the galaxy.  What he didn’t see, though, was the sign of established life.  No cities, no towns, no farms … not even a castle keep tucked into the crook of a mountain pass.  He began a heat signature scan and immediately found that the planet was full of critters, but nothing that seemed be of a humanoid nature, not that he knew if whom he was looking for was even human.  He had listened to the scratchy message on the puck over and over and didn’t hear any more than what Greef had told him.
‘Dooch ay mi mara thel ay ur dal red woor.’
He knew a smattering of some other words in some old languages, and of course Mando’a, but the words that he knew didn’t make any sense when he used them to attempt to translate the message.  The furthest he got was “cranial tit ovary” and he decided to leave it there.
‘Dooch ay mi mara thel ay ur dal red woor.’
He had even played it for Grogu a few times, but the child made a face, as if he didn’t care for the tone of voice on the recording, and then bit the puck.
‘Dooch ay mi mara thel ay ur dal red woor.’
The planet itself was fairly small, so he continued his scan.  This was probably nothing more than a waste of time after all, but he had to admit that the big blue expanse of ocean was an amazing sight.  For a planet beyond nowhere, it was pretty.  Lush.  Quiet.  Then there was a series of beeps from the scanner: it had found a partially metallic set of structures that resembled buildings.  A further look showed bipedal heat signatures.
“Strap in, Grogu, I think we found where we’re supposed to go.”
As the Crest approached, the tiny fort came into view.  From above, there were two large buildings: one round, about three stories tall, and a long flat building.  A large yard separated the two, and the entire area was surrounded by a tall stone wall.  A large garden occupied part of the yard – this had people working in it -- and a small river tributary came through the walled section.  Small, but fortified well.  There seemed to be no space for any kind of craft to land, and as he brought the Crest over the yard, the people looked up, and then scattered back into the low building.  There was no sizable flat area to land his ship adjacent to the fort, so Din was forced to touch down some clicks away.  After locking down the ship’s systems, Din checked his weapons, slung his familiar bag over his shoulder, and settled Grogu into it.
Coming down the ramp, Din took in a breath of air – clean and cool, with no hint of pollution.  That was a change.  He ambled through a copse of tall, thin trees, the sunlight dappled through the leaves.  Stepping over a low shrub, he disturbed a small furry creature that shot out from under his feet, scurried up a tree, and then hissed at him.  Startled, Din took a step sideways, cracking a stick underfoot, which in turn set off a covey of some sort of brightly colored bird-creatures, their flapping wings sounding like a hurricane. Din watched them go.  Grogu pointed and cooed, entranced.
“Well, it’s at least a nice place, huh, kid?”
Stepping out of the trees, he could see the fort not far away, past a rocky area with tall grass.  As he got closer, he got a whiff of salt air from the ocean.  Yes, this was a pleasant place indeed.  Coming up to the enormous wooden doors, Din pounded on them to announce his presence.
No answer.  Din pounded again, waiting for a face to appear at the small slit in the heavy doors above his head.  But all was silent. He even tried to pull on the doors, although he was certain they wouldn’t open – the manner in which the people scattered out of the garden as he flew over was evidence that they weren’t accustomed to people just suddenly arriving.  He listened at the door and heard not a sound.
Din stepped back to consider the doors and his situation.  He could not confirm that he was at the correct fort, much less the correct planet.  He had no name of a contact or a mark, or even the knowledge of having a mutual language by which to communicate.  Technically, he had naas.  Haar'chak.  Grogu blew a raspberry, almost as a response.  Din absently stroked the child’s head and turned away from the doors.  Gazing out over the rocky field, Din thought he could see a small footpath that led between two larger boulders.  Going to it, he peered between the two boulders and confirmed it was indeed a path.  Following it, he started down a series a switchbacks that led down the rock face to a lower grassy plain.  Here, the path was less visible, but there was enough grass disturbance that he was able to follow.  This led through another section of trees, thicker this time, but the path remained.  Coming out of the trees along another rocky ridge, Din was calculating how far he’d come when a stone the size of a gorg egg careened off the rocks near his head.  He immediately stepped back behind the ridge, removing his blaster while placing a protective hand in front of Grogu.  He waited.  Nothing.  Waited some more.  In time he peered around the rock face, and another stone whizzed toward him, this time pinging off his helmet.
“I DON’T HAVE TO MISS.”
Din ducked behind the rock face again.  A small stone, to be sure, but with good accuracy.  “I BELIEVE YOU.”
A few moments passed.  “WHO ARE YOU?”  A feminine voice.  Slightly shaky.  Definitely frightened.
“A BOUNTY HUNTER.”
Another pause. “WHAT IS THAT?”
What the shab? “WHAT PART DON’T YOU UNDERSTAND?”  No response.  “LISTEN.  HOW ABOUT YOU PUT DOWN YOUR ROCKS, I PUT DOWN MY BLASTER, I COME OUT THERE, AND WE TALK TO EACH OTHER?”  Nothing.  Din stowed his blaster, gently pushed Grogu down into the bag and put his empty hand out to show her.  “SEE?  NOTHING.”  Still no response.  He moved slowly out from behind the ridge, exposing his other hand, free of weapons.  No stones yet, so this was going well.  He continued to move slowly towards the direction of her voice, and then saw a low, flat roofed, open-sided building against the rock face opposite.  The structure was raised above the rocky ground, and the roof was thatched with braided grass.  a thin line of smoke came through a small metal chimney that rose from the roof.  Near the far side of the building, he could see a figure, standing stock-still.  As she stood in the shadows inside the structure, He could only see her bottom-half, wearing some kind of knee-length tunic over loose calf-length pants.  Her feet were bare.  He came a little closer, and she immediately shifted sideways, raising what appeared to be a short spear to her shoulder. Din stopped moving.  “I thought we were putting our weapons down.”
“You said rocks.  This is a stick.”
Din almost chuckled. “Fair enough.”
She shifted again, with the stick masquerading as a spear still at the ready.  She had come forward a bit, out of the shadows.  She was tall, and he couldn’t tell her age, other than that she was not elderly and certainly not a child.  Her hair fell over her shoulders and was a dark silver not unlike the color of his beskar.  Her eyes were wide, and her jaw was set with a look of murder.  They stood off, motionless, for a few moments, and then she said, “Who are you?”
“Like I said, I’m a Bounty Hunter.”
“And that is?”
“I find people.”
She shifted the stick again.  “Are you looking for me?”
“I’m … honestly not sure.”  He slowly reached into his bag and pulled out the puck.  She took two steps forward and raised the stick higher.  He put his hands in front of him again. “Let’s … lower the stick.  Listen to this.”  He set the puck to play the message.  “Bounty Hunter.  Dooch ay mi mara thel ay ur dal red woor.” At the sound of the voice coming from the puck, she gave a small shriek, dropped the stick, and backed up as far as she could.  The message played again, and this time her face contorted into panic, and she pressed her back so hard into a low set of shelves that she pulled herself on top of them.
“That’s The Bishop’s voice!  How is The Bishop’s voice in there?  What is this thing?”
Din stopped the playback.  “It’s a recording.”  She shook her head in confusion. “Can you tell me what The Bishop is saying?”
The woman opened her mouth, closed it again, and then dropped her eyes.  “The Bishop is saying …. Bounty Hunter …. Bring me …. Marathel and the Dahlrhddwhyrs.”
“All right.  Good.  Can you tell me what that means?”
“It means me.  I’m Marathel.”
“Okay.  Marathel.  Who are the Dahl …. Dahl-reddeth-woors?”
“Well ….”  She looked to her right.  “Those are.  Those are the Dahlrhddwhyrs.”  Din looked to where she was pointing, expecting to see more people who looked like her, but instead seeing a pack of quadruped creatures that were chest-high to him.  Their gray skin was stretched tight against their skeletons, with enormous sets of teeth, black eyes, and long talons on their three-toed feet.  They clawed at the ground, softly snarling.  Din immediately put his bag into a protective position, drawing his blaster on the creatures.  The woman ran forward again, shrieking, “NO!  STOP!”  At the sound of her voice, the creatures growled, turned, and galloped off towards the foothills past the building.  Grogu, annoyed with getting bounced about in Din’s bag, poked his head out to see the Dahlrhddwhyrs bound away.  The woman gasped and immediately retreated to her perch on the counter.  “What is THAT?”
Osik, what a jumpy woman.  Din stowed his weapon again, sighing.  Having had enough of this face-off, he said, “This is Grogu.  He is my …. companion.”  Grogu babbled a bit at the woman, and her face softened.
“Your child, then?”
“After a fashion.”
“Not your natural son?”
“He is a foundling.” The woman gazed at Grogu with a small smile. Shab, I should just carry the kid around like he’s armor.  He’s better at deescalating than anything else I can do.
The woman nodded.  “That makes more sense.  His ears, your helmet …. it doesn’t work.”
Din blinked.  Did she just …. make a joke?  The two stood off again, staring at each other.  Finally, Din gestured towards her.  “You are this … Marathel, then.”
“Yes.”
“And this … Bishop wants both you and these Dahl-reddeth things?”
Her face colored and she dropped her eyes.  “The Elders do, yes.  Well, not those Dahlrhddwhyrs.  They want the eggs.”
“Those things lay eggs?”
Marathel raised a delicate eyebrow.  “Of course, they lay eggs.  What else would they do?”
Din tilted his head and considered her.  She put her feet on the floor again, walked closer to the steps, and stood tall and haughty.  For the first time, he noticed that her best feature was in fact her skin … It was as fair as any skin he had ever seen, with an almost blue cast to its paleness.  Her face was pleasing enough: her eyes slightly tilted, her nose straight, her lips full and well-shaped.   He stepped forward himself, but she didn’t move this time.  He raised his foot to rest on one of the steps that led up to the platform.  She glanced at his foot, then raised her eyes to where she supposed his eyes would be.  “I was correct in assuming that was a weapon?” she asked, gesturing towards his hip.
“Yes.”
“What sort of weapon?”
“A blaster.”
“What sort of thing is that?”
Din could not wrap his head around this conversation. Was she taking the piss or was she mentally deficient? “It ….”  He searched his thoughts for a frame of reference that this woman could understand.  “It shoots out fire and makes things blow up.”
Marathel furrowed her brow slightly, as if she had been bitten by a tiny insect.  “Well, then, Bounty Hunter, and …. Grogu, of course,” she said, gesturing towards the child in the bag, “my home may not be much, but you will not bring your weapons into it.  Leave them on the steps.”
Din smirked beneath his helmet.  “But you have a stick and some rocks.”
Marathel arched her eyebrow again, but a hint of a smile curved her lips.  “Don’t make me use them.”
Din stood stock-still for a long time, challenging her to make some sort of move, or to say something.  She did neither.  Finally, he removed his blaster and the holster, laying them on the steps.  He then removed his smaller blaster, removed both vambraces, the vibroblade, and the force whip.  Last, he removed the straps that held his jetpack, and laid it next to the rest of the weaponry.   He then stood at the foot of the steps, looking up at her.  Finally, she said, “You needed all that to come here?”
“It helps to be prepared.”
Marathel blinked a couple of times at the arsenal, and then asked, “Are you hungry?”
“No.”
“The child?”
“Always.”
“Come in, then, Bounty Hunter, I will make something for him.”  She turned away to make her way back to the open hearth, where a small pot hung over the fire, and several earthenware pots sat on the hearth.  Din reached into the bag, pulling out Grogu, settling him into his arms.  Grogu looked at Marathel, and then back at Din.  His large eyes softened, and then he pointed at Marathel. Din took a breath, softly said, “Okay, then,” and ascended the three steps into Marathel’s home.

The grasslands of South America are another biome quite different from today’s Pampas and Cerrado. With the warming climate, after an initial desertification of both grasslands and rainforest, both of the biomes bounced back, with the Amazon rainforest reaching as far south as Sucre in Bolivia, and the Pampas and Chaco reaching as far south as the Chubut province in Argentina.
Thanks to the Great American biotic interchange most of the continent’s fauna were already coming from an extinction event, and were already prepared for it, with most of the losses being ungulates.
Even though the extinction wasn’t such a hard hit on South America, it allowed for rapid diversification, with adaptations unseen in the rest of the world.
Tumblr media
The biggest land animals in the continent are the Pachaucheninae, a lineage of vicuñas that came down from the Andes, and helped by their multi-chambered stomachs became the dominant graviportal herbivores.
Tumblr media
Resembling their relatives in Eurasia and North America, maras here grew bigger, but still have a quite similar behaviour and diet to their modern-day ancestors. Still living in relatively small groups and forming monogamous couples, although with a significant difference: these mara herds have a shepherd, the lobo pastor (Lycalodromeus elaphugion). These maned wolves descendants, already mostly herbivorous, further went down this path, developing a taste for the soft and more easily digestible short grasses that the mara herds uncovered.
Being some of the most solitary canids they couldn’t hide into groups of their own kind, and already being dependant on mara herds, they started hanging around the edges of these herds, before getting incorporated into them and acting both as a deterrent for smaller predators and as a sentinel. Other than protection they also exploit the herds for food, eating the members that died and keeping at bay other scavengers much more dangerous for the herd, like South American foxes or vultures and condors, and in periods of famine snatching newborn rodents while the parents are sleeping. Most species of lobo pastor (Hyppolupinae) specialize in just one or two species of mara, coevolving and diversifying with them.
Other prevalently herbivorous generalists include the Vampire peccaries (Smilosuinae) and the Hyocyons, hog-like coatis, and the howling baboons (Hesperopapioninae), much less violent than their African cousins, with smaller jaws, not used as much for intrasexual competition, and less sexually dimorphic, with only a difference in size of 10-20% between the two sexes, but with substantial differences in colour, with males being very dark in colour with a black mane, and females being more cream coloured. They live in mixed sex groups but they’re still polygamous, retaining their ancestral group structure.
Tumblr media

Other critters wandering through the Pampas, Chaco and Cerrado are the giant tamanduas (Metamandua tetradactyla) descended from the southern tamandua, converging on the same overall body plan of the extinct giant anteater; and the extremely numerous South American foxes, such as Proceravulpes magnauris, a savannah-dwelling generalist; Canimurangustus tenebris, a small nocturnal fox endemic to the Caatinga; and Magnoripervinus caudabrevis, an omnivore that lives between the grasslands and Atlantic forests.
On top of the food chain are two Notopardus species: the Leão gaúcho, or León de las Pampas (Notopardus tiberius), a big felid, the biggest in the whole continent, that hunts in small packs, composed of a monogamous breeding pair and sometimes their cubs; and the Jaguarote (Notopardus panamericanus) that sometimes during the summer gets into the wetter parts of the grasslands.

I don't write a lot of/enjoy smut, so these are fairly tame.
Eric and Donna:
*They're totally done it in a tree house before.
*Neither of them are all that adventurous in bed; it's the speed (The Flash) and the location that gets them going (the kitchen table).
*The first thing they do after getting their house is "house-breaking." Aka, doing it everywhere. First, the kitchen table.
*Along with role-playing as Luke and Leia (and later, as Luke and Mara), they roleplay as Spiderman/Peter Parker and Mary Jane. Eric gets aroused when "Mary Jane" takes off "Spiderman's" mask.
*Donna's whole celibacy thing in season 6 was to appease their parents (and Pastor Dan). Never again.
*Eric writes a lot of fanfiction. Mainly, Star Wars and Spiderman. Some are smutty, and Donna often reads them beforehand. Eric has an...imagination, that only occasionally mirrors reality.
*Eric walks around naked around the house, until a neighbor catches him.
Jackie and Hyde:
*They use car innuendos.
*"Start Me Up" by The Stones is their sex song.
*They repeat Red and Kitty's thing, and amply run up the stairs to have sex.
*Nothing turns Jackie off more than the word "moist." Or Hyde calling her Beulah.

i think part of why Geez Louise made me so emotional- (the second half, i mean, the first half's rapid shifting of s*nny's perspective is obvs compelling, and the repetition of "damn it" is both extremely satisfying tonally as well as relatable for my own past breakdowns)- is that I already knew, like *all* the s*nny lore before i listened to it. like the shit in boneyard, the whole ass story of s*nny set, and Duhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, You Don't Even Know Who I Am, and Johnny Johnny Johnny all being back to back in the album- most of what you learn from all that is the bad shit that happened to the girl, again and again- the people like mara who objectify and worship her, her past as a war refugee that haunts her when the fireworks trigger her ptsd, and the reveal, especially, that she's transgender- I believe that was first revealed in the Cops & Robbers mv, which really recontextualized The Story Of S*nny, what with its absence from the narrative and the pastor's refusal to gender her *at all*- doubly worse when Wallsocket's release revealed she's christian *herself.* all that, *plus* the Cops and Robbers shit makes what little we know about her own decisions mean a *lot*- despite everything, she dropped out of high school to become a rockstar, and *succeeded.* all of this culminates in Geez Louise, the first half a breakdown about god and trans-ness, which slowly, slowly cools down from panic to distain to acceptance- when the lyrics move to s*nny's experience as a whole, giving us the lines:
Must I pinpoint anything to kick up dust? Let it settle in Adorn my skin in accidental patterns Not sure if it matters but it sounds a lot like a life being lived
and this is how she conceptualizes her entire experience, right? it's the sentiment that it was all worth it to live that life, that even tho she was kind of a woobie, she wouldn't have it any other way. and at this point I'd seen so much of s*nny's life... well, knowing that much really gives you the impression of what those words mean, and that *hits.*

That post on Superman made me think why I’m writing my novel. Since it’s from a work that I haven’t got to finish (got sidetracked because I decided that I should write a fanfic where an idol reincarnates as a mech pilot), I’ll put under Read More.
I mentioned in the tags that gentleness is underrated strength in our current time (among others). Maybe I was just being a boomer when saying this, so you can ignore that, but still why do many people complain? I studied heroism and heroes from an academic point of view and I know that the monomyth/hero’s journey is bullshit.
In my novel, Mara is a loser. Both before and after going to Tabula. Before, she’s poor, ugly, unhealthy and perceives herself to be unloved and unlovable (she thinks her mom hates her and she’s only partially right). After that, nothing changes; even if she gets the “solution” to being poor, ugly and unhealthy, everyone there is brainwashed to serve her and those aren’t either freaking hate or pantshittingly fear her.
But one thing that I want to include is Mara losing all intellectual debates and discussions. I always hated the trope of small kid humiliating everyone else. Mara is just a teenager, she only doesn’t flunk because she’s studying in the literally worst school in all of Tokyo, they’re too apathetic to flunk kids there. Of course she has no capacity to win against an intellectual debate (1).
Returning to Mara, she has a few things: faith, kindness, gentleness. She’s the very definition of a good girl and that’s what being tested here. Tojava is doing all those things because, while she believes in the good potential of mankind, she thinks the best course of action is removing mankind’s ability to choose evil, no matter the cost. Mara has to be tempted to either agree with Tojava or become bitter and closed to the world (because she isn’t becoming a villain, she has no drive for that).
But I’m aiming for a third choice. Mara is a devout Catholic, but, in the beginning she’s one because it fulfills a need in her life (God is love), so she doesn’t really know why she is one. Her time in Tabula will test that and many times she’ll feel God has abandoned her. But through perseverance she has to learn she can’t be someone passive; if God is love, you have to put that in practice. Otherwise, her defeat is guaranteed because those fancy powers are temporary.
That’s what makes Superman so interesting as a character: he has a lot of fancy powers, but they don’t really define who he is; rather, they provide even more incentive for him to be kind, gentle, compassionate. And I hope to do something like that in my novel.
(1) There’s an academic edge to this, which is fitting because I work in the field. Aristotle taught us that debates can be won and the one who lost should submit (I only read his Poetics, but this I’m saying from a former pastor of mine who said this to me, who, in hindsight, was a bit too much interested in winning arguments, and whose church I don’t go anymore for a large variety of reasons and I don’t regret anything), but the more I study philosophy of science, the more I see that, from a technical point of view it’s impossible to win a debate because we’re always discovering new things in science that might make old debates outdated. It’s like attributing magical properties, the final word of a debate is a conversion spell. I won a debate once, when I had facebook, against a contact who always won against me; I managed to trap him and win…we stop talking (he was another who put way too much interest in winning debates), but even after “winning”, I felt it was one of the emptiest experiences of my life. Contrast with Ayn Rand, another person who had a bit too much faith in the miraculous properties of debates, and a big fan of Aristotle, who loved to create strawmen for her characters to beat subhuman antagonists; and whose biographers said it was invincible in debates, but her invincibility was more because it made the other realize “why the hall am I taking to her?” and just move on with their lives. This is why I hate the trope of "super genius defeats so-called wise men", because it's just so self-indulgent in a toxic way, even when I agree with the winning side.

G's Reviews:)
Movie: Them That Follow - 2019
Rating: R
Genre: Drama/Thriller
synopsis: Inside a snake-handling church deep in Appalachia, a forbidden relationship forces a pastor's daughter to confront her community's deadly tradition.
G's rating: 7/10
review: This is another one of those deep dive into extreme religion movies. It takes place in Appalachia, and in my mind I imagine that it has to be somewhere in West Virginia (only place I know where Appalachia is). I knew bits and pieces about this movie going into it, one of the main reasons being Lewis is in it. But I also discovered that Olivia Coleman (who stars in the Crown s3&4) is in it and so is Walter Goggins (who plays Venus VanDamn on Sons of Anarchy).
Right from the jump, I knew this movie was going to be about Mara trying to break away from the church. She's a pastors kid, who seems to have a thing for another kid named Augie. Augie's parents are apart of the church but for some reason, Augie has his head screwed on right and is not. However, Mara is set up with another church goer Garret (aka Lewis). But, plot twist, Mara is pregnant, unwed. . . and it's Augie's baby. Mara, like Augie, realizes that what the church is doing is wrong and decides to leave before they can kill her.
This movie shines light on some of the extreme parts of religion and how far some people will go thinking that they are doing right by God's word, even if that means endangering the lives of others.
Alright, now to talk about Lewis, or the main reason I watched this. This man has RANGE. Idk why he plays a villain so damn well. The plot wants you to feel for Garret. They set him up as this sweet boy, whose only goal in life is to praise the Lord and marry Mara. However, you quickly see the ugly side of Garret. The way Lewis takes you on a ride from 'sweet altar boy' to 'I want this man to burn in hell' in point two seconds is amazing. After seeing him in Starling Girl, playing the villain, and seeing him play this character. . . I hate to say it, but Lewis James Pullman was born to play the characters you hate. I mean I love Bob Floyd and Harrison Knott as much as the next person, but holy shit can Lewis give one hell of a performance in these more serious roles.
I literally can not wait to see where his career takes him. The guy is only 30, and really just starting out in his career. I would love to see him take on some more serious roles and maybe play the good-(ish) guy?

S.A.V.E. Award January 2022 was awarded to Jeff Lovering
Conservation Project - Lions, Cheetahs, Caracals & more
WHAT Is The Milgis Trust? Milgis Trust is a nonprofit organization founded in 2004 with the aims of protecting wildlife, habitat and local people in a very remote part of Northern Kenya. Matthews Range, Ndoto Mountains and Karisia Hills, spreading out towards Oldonyo Mara, Mount Nyiru and Mount Kulal; the trust covers approximately 8,000 sq kms and supports a diverse range of flora and fauna and the pastoral livelihoods of several different nomadic tribes including the Samburu, Turkana and Rendille.
The Milgis ecosystem is host to an extraordinary variety of wildlife because of the variation of unique habitats from the desert sands to the mountains and thick rainforests. This promotes incredible diversity and is why the Milgis has such a wide array of species, some being endemic to the area. Amongst this wildlife is wild cats including Lions, Leopards, Cheetah, and Caracal.
Poaching, hunting, and land degradation are all immediate threats to the Milgis ecosystem and the trust is working to combat them. By employing responsible people to be scouts and wildlife rangers, from within local communities, they become responsible for making sure wildlife and the environment are kept intact and not irresponsibly abused. They are responsible for Anti-poaching initiatives, Animal rescues, mitigating human-animal conflict, and acting as a liaison between the Milgis Trust and their communities. In turn the healthy ecosystem is to the benefit of all that depends upon it. A large part of the trust’s conservation strategy is the implementation of projects which help the communities with some of their challenges. They have managed to get people to understand that by caring for the environment, ecotourism will increase in the area creating income for the people as well as allowing the Milgis to implement the health, education, and veterinary aid for livestock and water projects.
Read more about their work here: https://www.milgistrust.com/
WHAT Is The S.A.V.E Award? Big Cat Rescue acknowledges our amazing volunteers each month by making a SAVE Award to a conservation project in their name, in addition to all of the other exotic cat conservation projects we fund. SAVE stands for Scratch’s Award of Volunteer Excellence, in memory of a beloved 30-year-old cougar named Scratch.

Godly Gossip

Tumblr media
After visiting our church on the evening of Jessica Medley’s amazing violin performance the other week (happy birthday), the Duarte Family of Evergreen Harbour are planning to join us despite them clashing entirely with the commandments the LORD has given us.
They have surrendered their son to the SATANISTS, as my mother says, by allowing them to educate him. They have also allowed DEMONS into their home  secular media. For a school that claims to educate boys into GODLY MEN, they do not seem to be doing that all too well. As evidenced by last week when afterwards Gideon and Jessica were flirting.
Though, maybe it is her fault. Her summer dresses are far too short. She should really think about guarding her purity in future and not causing her brother in the LORD to even think of stumbling.
Events
As you well know, there is an ongoing mission to the SECULARIST Mt. Komorebi but there has been news of a mission trip to Sulani. Mr Rews will be taking 8 young men and women to spread the WORD to those heathens after the new year.
Our church’s women’s group will be meeting this Thursday evening, led by Mrs Victoria Snow. We believe that women should be just as knowledgeable as their husbands and fathers on the LORD’s word. However, we as women have separate advice and concerns which need not be addressed on a Sunday. All ages are welcome!
Pastor Banks has been so kind as to arrange a teens and young adults movie night featuring some recent Keith Cannon films, keep eyes peeled.
Jobs
I’m surprised that Mara Medley has time to volunteer with such a lovely house and only two older sisters to take care of it. Perhaps the other girls should join her, if they have the time, what with courting, houses, siblings and their dedication to the house of the LORD.
It is important for wives to please their husbands in any way for wives should submit as unto them LORD! If that means a night alone, c’est la vie. If you have toddlers or boys, perhaps Viviene Duarte might help with the babysitting since she has an awful lot of time on her hands with only her successful husband and son to care for.
Courtships
Before the wedding of her younger brother, I happened to spot Joshua Dressler and Hosanna Medley awfully close to one another while they waited. My suspicions of a courtship were proven correct just as I write this!
With Kathleen Crane (miracle of all of Christ’s miracles) now courting Jericho Quick, I wonder what her parents and the LORD will have in store for spinster Emma. Once upon a time, we all thought whether 4 of the five Cranes will be married to Medleys but the LORD always spites those who try to predict what occurs. Maybe the hilarious Noah Medley or the lovely Robert Weston might be of interest
The LORD’s Ideas
As is with every other Sunday, after Church we’ll be preaching in the streets! Our church may be inviting but unless we actively preach his WORD, people will fall to the will of SATAN and go to HELL.
Some in our church community, who may not attend so frequently may need to recall our dear Pastor’s sermons on music and dancing considering they allow their daughter to be exposed to such SIN. Dancing is forbidden as it is clearly the vertical expression of an unclean, sideways desire!
Mrs Snow has arranged this study specifically as wives and daughters should remember the LORD’s place for them. Some in our community believe that a biblical marriage is where the woman DOMINATES her husband and emasculates him by becoming the breadwinner. It is a woman’s place to be a home, nurturing, not in an office while their children could be exposed to DEMONS!
Godly Clothing
Tumblr media
Lovely Noemy Ingram, soon to be Mrs Quigg, and the ever so compassionate Josiah Longoria modelled for me
How we present ourselves is highly important. We represent the LORD to those we attempt to save by his GRACE and especially us girls should be modest so our brothers in the LORD never stumble. It is key that we should be reminded as it can become addictive to dress in the scandalous clothes our fathers and husbands allow us to wear at home. Perhaps Beulah Banks might also need a reminder after her summer wear.
Pregnancies and Births
We have recently seen the cumulation of a long-expected yet suspiciously short courtship by Immanuel and Charity Medley. While I wish not to cast doubt on why they married as Immanuel has always been one to rush through the great events of life, their pregnancy announcement so soon after a wedding does strike me as slightly odd.
Josephine Medley has given birth to her fourth child recently, yet she has not yet released the gender or name to our community. They choose to attend our close associate Henry Lyle’s Homechurch so we’ll know when and if they post. Another Medley wife, despite the tragic loss in the family, is proud to announce she’s given birth to twins: Deborah and Mariana Medley. They’ve been keeping clear of our church considering it is taking Abigail more time to recover from the birth as well as the grief of losing a sibling.
Political Careers
Speaking of Henry Lyle, despite his dyke daughter has announced he’ll be running as governor of Newcrest in order to unseat the current FILTHY, PAGAN, CATHOLIC governor. I hope that our community can be supportive of the cause of good, CHRISTIAN government.
Senator Wolf is continuing his fight in restricting the MURDER of BABIES which our SECULAR government believes is a right of women. In the same way we do to Mr Lyle, I hope our community can extend support to him.
A Death
Mr Weston and his wife are sad to announce the death of their son, Adrian. He was a great servant to the LORD. Sadly, he has also left behind his fiancee, Delia Cannon. Our community sends great condolences to the family who have decided to take this opportunity to mourn in private

(Linara Carvalho)

hey anonymous; is that so? for me: i take comfort in thinking about ABA(!) -- i have this mental game i:ve been playing since i:ve seen the trailer for her where i imagine wasting my pay on strive and her dlc (?) and then maybe trying her in practice for a few minutes and alt+f4ing 'cause i:m too bored; but it flows further: i imagine maybe if i took a chance and made a connection with another person and grinding Strive together like back when i:d play KOF with friends over voice and had fun; and then ABA becomes a key (ha) to tool me to connect, to may-be be the excitement i need to start having more pits and valleys and hills in my life instead of the same slow march deeper into a quiet boring life (but isn:t that how the control starts? suddenly ABA is another operant lever installed inside to control me to CONNECT!); or so-and-so; really love the design, may-be best to admire from afar and not covet the material to be a simple tool to fix a dear flaw in myself.
any-ways!
it:s orsday sabbath, overlapping with the 7th day sabbath, and i wrote another weekly programming post, + i have sermon notes and some bad sketches of my pastor since i went to church, too;
read it here if you:d like

H-7 then H-5 till I meet you again 광광!!
I just feel like crying, and the song said: amugodo duryowon mara! I'm not afraid of anything that will come my way. Reflecting back since Bali Camp, so much has changed, every areas of my life seem ALIVE, CLOSER TO GOD, VERY PERSONAL, INTIMATE, FULL OF TRUST, FUN, EASY, LIGHT, NO WORRY that what I can say. And God gave me bonus by putting some sort of Godly magical romance too, that I still praying for and willing to believe and surrender to God.
And I witness how God works, He didn't stop working even when I forgot to pray about, when I think someone might not do it seriously, when I think it might just be a wishful thinking. Even now I still not sure about many thing, but one thing I sure of, my life will change forever once GwangHui comes to Bali, which is in 5 days. Really?
Hmm, I said to him today, can't believe I get to say see you soon. Well our communication is quite intense these days as we're counting down the days. Visa, my own misunderstanding, housing, phone, prayer with pastors, etc. He said: nuna im nervous, i'm going to meet Ps Paul tonight. Nuna it's 7 days left. Nuna I'll call you, Buchangnim OoOoOoOo etc.. The funniest thing is when I'm trying to ensure his room @ Tintin: out of 53rooms available there was only 1 room available 205 which next to mine (NOWAY), I asked again, ok 217 will be available on Jan 2nd, oo perfect I said, numberwise its a bit far from mine. Till I checked myself, the room is behind me -__- which means he can see all my laundries and we can have some sort of romeo & juliet relationship (sumpah ya ini impian gw dr smp bisa sbeelah2an di drama korea ky ChunYang, Business Proposal & smua yg kebetulan lainnya -___-). Trus ga lama kemudian sih ada room 223, then I think ok let's make video & make GH choose, but before I did it, someone took the room already. So I told Bella which one is better? Next to mine or behind me? She called me rightaway giggling. OMG this is just so funny.
Well I think what I know is, both me and him we're completely on the same path. We're focus on what God wants us to do in life, we don't go to the left or right but straight according to His words, what we care the most is expanding God's kingdom and be a witness of how God words, be obedient to His command even it doesn't make sense to the world, we both has dream of having Godly family but in the meantime we're working our best to fill our days with ensuring young people to be Jesus' disciples, enjoying God's grace, covenant and promises, we trust God will provide for us in job and financial, we're willing to learn each others' language/cultere/differences/age gap with respect and carefulness to not hurt and make stupid decisions. And what I'm trying to remember clearly here is: if being in relationship with him bring glory to God, if it what God wants and intend us to do, if it shapes us to become more like Jesus and selfless, if it becomes our testimony of how God works in our waiting, if we're capable to be example of building Godly family, then I know it will worth to be pursued. Not only for my own romantic fulfilment, not for filling my pride and own benefit, not because of korean syndrome, not because I want to rush thing as I get older, not because that temporary fling and childish cling, but just because of God's grace, His mercy, His will not mine, so here I state on the 2nd to last day of 2023, NOT MY WILL GOD BUT YOURS :)
And for you Gwang Hui, thank you for appear in my life, thank you for such joy and precious time we spent, for pursuing and being obedient of what God put in your heart, for listening to me and communicate with me while being careful and weird sometimes in my opinion. Thank you for showing what faith looks like in your silence but your action speak louder than any man I ever met. Since the first time to tell me about staying in bali over our trip to GL, when you told your dad when I was in Korea, when you told your relatives during chuseok time, when you handed your resignation letter, when you waited till your time to disciples your Sun is over, when you told me about your last day of work, your willingness to learn Bhs Indonesia, visa, applying to BIH, learn about choir, cafe, korean dermatologist, coming to Indonesia Service, setting up meetings with your Pastor before making any decision, your finance plan, your honesty and transparency with me, for telling me about your days, I RESPECT YOU, A LOT KIM GWANG HUI :) and I can't wait to adventure this journey, another exciting chapter in our lives that God provides, to witness together what God will do through us. May God lead us, protect us, make His will be done GREATLY through us and our ministry. I can not wait to see you again :)
