Happy Mardi Gras to anyone who celebrates!! My God-mother is going to be in the parade with Iris today, and I'm so excited to see her today on the NOLA.com livestream. Luv you, auntie Voodoo!! I miss you and New Orleans, so much!!
One very visible aspect of Mardi Gras in New Orleans (home of Miss Fisher Con 2024) are the parades. And as I understand it, Parade Season really kicks off - in just a couple hours! - with the Krewe de Jeanne d'Arc (Krewe of Joan of Arc) parade. Their walking parade (no floats) features people in medieval costume, music, jugglers, knights and, of course, the Honorary Maid portraying St. Joan of Arc. The parade works its way through the French Quarter, stopping briefly at St. Louis Cathedral where "Joan" is blessed by a Priest - and receives her sword! - before moving on to the Joan of Arc statue in the French Market. The parade ends with everyone singing Happy Birthday to New Orleans' unofficial Patron Saint.
