Smiffina Episodes - Episode 329
Gina's back at work and is shocked to hear that Adam has resigned, however it's all a cover to catch a larger fish. A long term friend of Adam's is a drug dealer and he needs to think that Adam is on the level and no longer a cop.
The Borough Commander steps in as cover whilst a 'new' Superintendent is found. The very same Borough Commander who is married to the drugs referral worker, Rochelle who just happens to be having an affair with PC Dan Casper. Ian used to be Dan's Superintendent at Spicer Street. He very nearly catches them in the act at Sun Hill... Gina uses Ian to very 'casually' work out that Adam is working undercover for NCS. And they work together to find Adam after he goes missing as part of it. Adam is finally safe but badly hurt and let down by his childhood best friend and still grieving for his family he's taking time off and away from the station leaving space for a new acting super. He admits to Gina he doesn't know what he wants anymore and is considering leaving the service all together.
Special notice for Terry's reaction to being given the DCI's wallet:

I'll Wait
Jason wished he could bundle all the anger, hatred, fear and longing into a ball and shove it deep down. It was a skill he once had mastered. But then he fell down into Hell, and the shield that uses to protect him was cracked in half. He tried to reconstruct it but it was no use. It scared the hell out of him.
"Jason!" Salim's voice called to him. His gaze automatically locked onto the older man, who was waving him over.
He was the one responsible for Jason's turmoil. It only took a few hours for them to go from enemies to loyal partners. Jason tried not to think about the choices he made down in the catacombs. He moved to sit near Salim, desperately wishing he could lie enough times to believe he wasn't feeling these emotions.
"You look so different without your hat," Salim observed. "I wasn't expecting freckles."
Jason's eyes snapped up to Salim's face--big mistake. His insides squirmed and fluttered, his heart raced. His counter down there was to get angry, but he couldn't anymore. Not after everything he and Salim went through.
"They let you talk to Zain yet?"
"No." Salim let out a sigh.
"Want me to have a word with them?"
"That depends." Salim caught his eye, a teasing smile on his lips. "How civilized is this word?"
"I can be plenty civilized, smart-ass," Jason insisted, matching the smile. Their banter had a way of relaxing him. He felt a tug in his heart and almost let it pull him closer. Jason jerked away as if he'd been burned. "I'll go right now," he announced.
"Jason, wait." Salim reached for him and he froze. The man's expression was gentle, searching. "Talk to me," he coaxed.
Except Jason couldn't find the words. How could he explain what he was feeling? He denied this part of himself for so long Jason wasn't sure he could.
"Later," Jason said. "I gotta have some civilized words with those assholes first." Salim pursed his lips.
"All right," he conceded. "I'll wait." It felt like he put more meaning into those words. Like he knew exactly what Jason was fighting through.

(@driftward) Glimpes of the past meme. What has AERYN ACHIEVED? A CRITICAL C'ORETTA moment? When was IYNA INJURED? And when Dark, uhhh, Dark.. uhhhh.. AUTUMN AFRAID? And maybe a bonus MORTAL moment with... (wait for it) MEVAN?
Gremlin. All of these prompts on the same doc came to a bit over 4000 words. Half of these words are these scenes.
There's a lot here, so under a cut they go!
send ACHIEVED for a scene from my muse's past in which they completed / achieved something they were proud of
“Top marks again,” Emelia said, smiling brightly. “Even beating out the older students.”
Aeryn shrugged, trying to remain modest but seeing how pleased her parents were made her smile in return.
“Your academic skill has been noticed,” Tanzel said, reaching over to squeeze her skinny shoulder. “My old friend at the High Crucible has been following with interest. He is willing to sponsor your continued studies, on the condition you apprentice with him afterwards.”
“Truly?” Emelia asked, while the grandmothers murmured in the background.
Aeryn frowned. “I like alchemy, but I want to study magic.” She ignored Nani Shaila’s derisive snort.
Tanzel nodded. “I told him so, even with how…difficult, casting has been for you,” he said diplomatically. “But he thinks a well-rounded education in the current theories will be an excellent foundation, given the work they must do for the satrap.”
Her heart beat a bit faster. She could still study what she wanted—she was so close to figuring out how to tap into her aether, she just knew it—and would have secured herself a position in the High Crucible as well. She nodded eagerly, trying to contain her excitement.
Even better, Zaine was coming home on leave in a few days, and she couldn’t wait to tell him.
send CRITICAL for a scene from my muse's past in which they thought about / were reminded of something they're insecure about
C’oretta paused just inside the door of their house, hearing the nurse Master Hamon had insisted upon talking with her mother. “Now then, Miss C’leiha, let’s get this done before your daughter gets home.”
“I told you before, Mida,” C’leiha said. The nurse’s name was not Mida. “Khell wants a big family, but I am not interested in having children.”
C’oretta bit her lip as the nurse took in a deep breath. “Is that so, Miss?” The nurse said mildly.
“Pregnancy is awful, and the changes to one’s health and body, even lasting after, ugh,” C’leiha shuddered. “And I’ve missed opportunities with my career I wouldn’t otherwise. No, we shall not be having a big family. I’d be happy with just the two of us.”
C’oretta forced her smile back on and called “Mama, I’m home!” before she stepped into the room.
C’leiha sat up, beaming. “Oretta! Welcome home, darling, did you have a good day at school?”
Reminding C’leiha that she was training at the Pugilist Guild now wouldn’t be useful, so C’oretta only nodded, still smiling, shrugging slightly at the nurse’s apologetic look.
send INJURED for a scene from my muse's past in which they sustained a significant injury
To all of my children in whom Life flows abundant…
The sky burned. Iyna’s head ached as if struck, though it was her side that felt every flame.
…To all of my children, to whom Death hath passed his judgment…
She had been returning to the Citadel when something had obviously, terribly gone Wrong with the transmitter, Dalamud distantly pulsing red in the sky above.
…The soul yearns for honor, and the flesh the hereafter…
Her flesh was certainly yearning for relief of some kind, though not that of the Lifestream just yet. She pulled herself to her feet, wincing and holding the gushing wound at her side. That wasn’t good.
…Look to those who walked before to lead those who walk after…
Her ears rang, the words hard to make out, but she turned back to where her contacts had risked dropping her off and hobbled that way.
…Shining is the Land's light of justice…
The land was twisted and torn, what parts of the city that hadn’t collapsed burning. She blocked out the sounds and scents of people dying, as she had hundreds of times over the decades.
…Ever flows the Land’s well of purpose…
What the fuck had Garlond done?
…Walk free, walk free, walk free, believe…
She stumbled on, holding her side, calling on years of training and discipline and hate and stubborness to keep going, the ringing sound almost like a song in her ears urging her forward…
…The Land is alive, so believe…
“Iyna!” The familiar voices of her rebel contacts drew near, and she almost wanted to weep in relief. They were still there. They had come to find her, knowing she wouldn’t have gotten to the city proper yet, in her circuitous route to throw off suspicion.
Caution was no longer needed. There would never be a better time.
“Let’s get out of here,” she said, swaying into her allies’ arms. “They’ll think I died with the rest.”
“You still might. Gods, this is a lot of blood!”
“Carry her, we have to go.”
A hrothgar scooped her up, and they ran through the burning woods to their transport.
The song continued, a terrible lullaby sending Iyna into dreams of more fiery skies and burning cities.
When she woke days later, side stitched and burns covered, she did not remember the dreams nor the song.
(Later she recognized the voice)
send AFRAID for a scene from my muse's past in which they were scared / under threat
Dark shouldn’t have wandered away from her siblings.
They were noisy even when not chattering and laughing and so she had slipped away to hunt for herself, and had found a nice young antelope she could easily take with her bow.
Then the boar had arrived, scaring off her quarry and staring at Dark with its angry eyes.
She stood frozen, hoping if she just didn’t move one way or another it would go. At thirteen summers, she was taller than many adult Hyurs, but still unmistakably adolescent in her gangly limbs that did not match the size of her hands and feet, nor her still plank-straight torso. Her shortbow’s pull was strong, enough for wildlife up to small deer, but a boar?
It was larger than her, its hide thick and tough, its yellowed tusks long and pointed. It huffed out a heavy breath.
Dark swallowed a whimper and tried to stop her trembling.
It rushed forward. Dark screamed, loosing her arrow instinctively. It pinged off a tusk.
There was a shout, and the boar was body checked by a large roegadyn man, his spear driving into the creature’s side. Dark let loose another arrow. This one, luckily, pierced through the boar’s eye, finishing its ferocious death throes.
She fell to the ground, shaking and choking out a little sob.
Cold Autumn pushed himself off the boar’s twitching, whimpering, dying body. He stood there for a moment, shaking himself, muttering prayers and curses to both Nophica and the Elementals, apologizing for what had transpired, thanking them for the bounty of the boar’s body while keeping his sister safe, promising to see none of the boar wasted. The ritual helped him calm down, giving Dark the time to settle as well, and whisper her own prayers in response, following her eldest brother’s example.
His broad shadow fell over her, and she looked up. His expression of relieved anger was almost more frightening than the boar had been. “I told you to stick with us,” Cold said.
She nodded. She had disobeyed. The others were calling from the woods, hurrying through the underbrush, asking if everything was all right.
“We’re fine!” Cold called, deep voice easily carrying through the woods, slowing their siblings’ rush. He reached down and grabbed Dark’s upper arms, his hands huge and strong as he hauled her to her feet and looked her over. “Hurt?” he asked, tone gentler.
She shook her head.
“Good shot,” he said. “Finished it quicker than I could alone. Don’t do this again, Mouse.”
She nodded, flinging forward to hug him tightly. He returned the embrace, and then led her to rejoin the others.
send MORTAL for a scene from my muse's past in which they had a brush with death, either themselves or someone close to them
The tunnel’s collapse was sudden, no Earth inspired nearby to sense, let alone stop, it. Mevan’s training with the town physicker wasn’t so much interrupted as changed in its course, following him to the site as people were pulled out of the rubble. She and the physicker were kept busy, hours passing in a blur.
She used the basic cleanse inspiration, many of the miners too injured to hiss at the sharpness of the aether scouring their forms. She used alchemical solutions to dull their pains and medicate scraped and torn flesh. She traced her hands over their wounds as if she were stitching them, her inspiration knitting them together. She set broken bones, weaving torn tendons, ligaments, muscles, flesh into whole pieces before splinting the limbs or wrapping the ribs, the spines.
Through it all, Mevan grit her teeth, mouth full of the taste of copper and grit, bones aching, skin tender, innards twisted. She felt each cut and bruise, each break and tear, that her patients experienced, her inspiration’s sympathetic reactions guiding her to what needed healing.
Her back ached, legs tingling as if asleep as she worked on a broken spine. She wasn’t good enough to deal with nerve damage yet; hopefully Master Ildris would come soon, a message had been sent to the enclave…
A shout, as one more body was pulled from deep in the rubble. They called for Mevan, and she ran to see. The man barely breathed, every attempt a shallow, raspy hiss. He was a mass of blood and bruising, limbs crushed and mangled. She set to work.
Sparks danced in her hair as she cleansed him, more blood welling and pooling in places it should not be. His skull had been mostly protected by his helm and luck besides, so there was no brain damage—not from being struck, anyway. She ignored his extremities for now, seeking the damages in his pulverized and punctured torso.
It was so much. Too much, making her sway as blackness crowded her vision. But she sucked in a breath and set to work. Mevan was only Celestial inspired, but she had aetheric reserves that made even Divines jealous. She could keep going. She had to.
So she began knitting his wrecked organs back together. Clearing and repairing his lungs so he could breathe…but his airways were blocked, so take care of that. That caused a skip in his also damaged heart, so hurry there, finish the lungs in a moment…but now other things were failing, more blood and bile where it shouldn’t be, a cascade that she chased, trying to catch up to the failing pieces. She even tried turning the sympathetic bond around, willing her own organs to remind his how they ought to work—
“Mevan,” Ildris’s voice, soft and sad. Her thin, calloused hand rested on Mevan’s. “Ease his pain. And let him go.”
“But I can—”
“No,” her mentor said. “There are some things beyond even Inspiration. You’ve done more than could be expected, but it’s just as important that we know when to give in to fate.”
Mevan’s vision blurred, from both weariness and tears. The man was too weak to groan, but as deep as she was in his innards, she felt every agony. She withdrew; slowly, carefully, and with Ildris’s guidance, dulled his nerves and released the humors that would make him feel better than he was. Mevan fumbled for one of her vials, pouring it down his throat, sensing further relief as he relaxed, little other sensation left to him as she watched his battered organs fail.
Her own breath paused, briefly, as his finally rattled to a stop.
Mevan slumped against Ildris, who held and rocked her, brushing a kiss across Mevan’s temple, as she had when Mevan was a child and sobbing about how she missed her home, how she couldn’t reach the promise of her inspiration—not until she found her calling to heal.
“I know,” Ildris said. “The first is the hardest.”
“It gets easier?” Mevan rasped, her vision swimming, darkening as she shivered; she had been healing for hours, and this had been the worst. She had hit aethershock.
“No,” Ildris admitted, as Mevan’s consciousness faded away.

Zain: *mumbles something* DM: what was that about prostitutes?
Arora BOARialous
We cast speak with animals on the boar staring at us The boar has run away Mick guessed that it was a wild-shaped druid, Alex does not confirm
We try following the "boar" and come across the logging camp
Sand ants, giant fucking sand ants, apparently called ank heads or something??
Mick asked if they were the same size as a wyvern. They are
Tibor Wester is a pacifist
Juniper accidentally mentioned burning down the buildings at the camp
The lumberjacks are all pussy
The burning of Gnomengarde is still on the table
"Ahhhh I wanna commit arson"
The ank heads spit venom
Juniper attempts to climb into the cabi
"Really?? Right in front of my jellybeans???" - in response to Mick and Georgie joking about knotting
Saying graphic depictions of spaghettification three times fast
We are now in combat
Tibor has a mistress
We traumatise Alex further (jokes about it not being water coming out of the tap)
Iphigenia tried pushing the desk out of the way, it fails
Juniper goes to push the desk out of the way, but ends up hurting herself instead. Alex said that Juniper stubbed their toe. Juniper is a satyr, they don't have toes
Riverlea also couldn't push the desk out the way
The ank head fails at chomping Raven
"First scimitar - oh fuck it's a nat 1"
The desk is still in the way
Georgie smashes the desk They had to roll damage It now has a hole in it
"That is mahogany"
Raven just took 13 acid damage
Raven has done some damage back to the ank head
We are free to leave the office
Tibor fucked off
Iphigenia is a master forger
"Fuck you. Literally" Mick to Zain as Zain is standing in front of the ank head. They thought I meant literal fucking so we had a good laugh
Riverlea slides under Raven's legs and casts burning hands
Georgie aggressively rolled their dice and did 12 fire damage
"Everything screams like the fucking gummy bear" -Lara
"You are prone being under Raven's legs" Alex to Georgie
Riverlea just got chomped by the Ank head
"You're going to fucking die" sad Riverlea noises
Tumblr media
Riverlea just took 33 damage total. The polycule is barely holding on
"That was uncomfortably close to your groin"
Raven threw Riverlea back into the office and then proceeded to decapitate the Ank head
Raven is now Wally West crossed with Geralt of Rivia
Scaring Alex is becoming a reoccurring theme
Tibor is on the cart of supplies
Raven aims a crossbow at Tibor
Zain rolled a 10, it tied, Tibor is hit with a crossbow and takes 11 damage
Tibor is fucking dead
We are burning the evidence that we killed Tibor
We proceed to burn the camp to the ground
There are 3 more killer ants
"I like your funny words magic man" - Mick, Georgie, and Zain
Juniper has somehow survived this long and idk how
"I have a character called Orpheus" "Its Orphen time"
DM.exe not working again
Raven and Riverlea are going back to the cart
Juniper took 12 damage
Iphigenia did 14 damage to an Ank head
One Ank head is dead, the other is on fire
Juniper takes 4 damage
Iphigenia cast magic missile
Riverlea is going for the head
It failed
"Touch the grass"
Ank head 2 is dead. Juniper burnt it into a crisp
Lara casts magic missile again, and it misses
Mick is just casting burning hands
Iphigenia cast fire bolt
The ank head is disengaging
We are still killing it
The ank head is dead
The logging camp has been burnt to the ground
Off-screen they give the supplies to an orphanage in Neverwinter and then go back to Phandalin
Tune in next week for the mid-season finale
And we level up to level 5 as well

Ganilla meme - 9 for Zain and Mave. Former for bullying purposes and the latter just because. :3c
Vanilla Sunday Meme
9. Is your muse attracted to any features in particular?
Tumblr media
Already answered! ^v^
Tumblr media
Sure does! If you describe Cale, that's practically it lmao--
Appearance-wise, Mave doesn't really mind whether someone has inhuman traits, in fact he prefers them-- in life his crush had seamlines and eyes that could glow an unnatural green, and in death he's most certainly see-through, and that's when they met, actually.
As a vamploid, he's drawn to mechanical beings like himself, those that he can form a sort of symbiotic relationship with. Despite how MZ and Zain behave, its in their programming and the Zero-Virus subroutines to have thralls and partners-- they're a type of Robot Master that becomes a Nano Master instead, and they use that hierarchy of power to form a network web with themselves at the center.
(It's thanks to MZ that the network is so empty-- it has MZ himself, Zain, Mave, and Rock, no one else.)
As for personality... Mave likes someone who doesn't mind taking it slow. He used to not be a person, a blank slate, and would mimic others instead of developing himself and his own AI. Someone who's patient and willing to explain themselves and be communicative is extremely important to him.
They also have to be adventurous and willing to withstand all the weird things he does to learn the world around himself, lol.

Thinking too much about Lunar again. In particular about how Ghaleon repeatedly mourns Dyne's magical potential, in spite of Dyne never showing much skill in magic outside of the standard Dragonmaster spell set... and I think the keyword here absolutely is "potential."
Dyne had the potential to do a lot of things, but he seemed especially interest focused. By which I mean: he clearly picked up skills easily if he was interested in them, and he never really seemed that interested in magic. But I do think he must have had an unusually deep well of magic available to him, which was the "potential" that Ghaleon was picking up on.
Headcanon: Dyne has ADHD. (Hyperactive type)
The irony here is Ghaleon shows the same interest based personality quirks. He had no interest in expanding his natural inborn magical abilities as a child - he was focused on becoming a cleric, a healer. What magic he had already was more than enough as far as he was concerned, to the frustration of the older mazoku in his life.
But when the puzzle of completing his recently deceased older brother's life work (and thus perhaps gaining an understanding of "why was Zain like that") strikes his interest, Ghaleon sure as heck picks up artificing and magitek real damn fast.
Of course in the end, due to the church of Althena becoming a bitter taste in his mouth (and new... projects requiring stronger magic), Ghaleon's full magical potential does get developed - he ends up becoming the most powerful wizard to have ever lived on Lunar. (And he masters sword fighting as well, technically making him a Spellsword. Multiclassing overachiever.)
Headcanon: Ghaleon also has ADHD. (Inattentive type)
Headcanon: tbh Lunar is neurodiverse all the way down.
Okay that's about all the thinks I have this morning lol :B

Chapter 79 - Final Mission #2 - The Glitch
With a determined look on his face, Raphael declared, “I’m going to free the other guardians. If I don’t return within a week, then you should start praying, because something must have gone terribly wrong.”
I felt a surge of worry and asked, “Do you want me to come with you?”
He shook his head and said, “No, Cyrus and Sol are beyond your reach. You don’t know how to shield your powers from the dark lord’s influence on his lands. You wouldn’t stand a chance there.”
Akira spoke up and said, “I can help him with that. I can teach him how to resist the dark lord’s freezing spell. Just give me a couple of days, and he’ll master it.”
But Raphael was adamant. “I’m not willing to waste any time. I’m going alone. You have another task: gather the other guardians and bring them back to the kingdom of Aura Aetherius. That’s where you’ll find me and the ones I’m rescuing.”
Akira looked confused and asked, “So you’re not coming back here?”
He rolled his eyes and said, “Did you not hear what I just said?”
She apologized and said, “Sorry, right, we’ll see you there then.”
Kryo then asked, “Where are Cyrus and Sol? Are they really still alive?”
Raphael explained, “As I already told you, they’re alive but imprisoned. I know their location and how to free them. I just hope they haven’t moved them in the last decade and that they’re still sane. But I have faith in them.”
Then he ignored our further questions and left, vanishing into thin air on his mission.
Akira looked at me with a determined expression. “We have to find the other guardians and bring them back to the temple, right?” she asked. I nodded. “Do you have any better plans?” I countered. She shook her head and sighed. “I wish I could teach you something new, like I used to do when I was your mentor.” She smiled wistfully. “Maybe we can go back to the waterfalls someday.” I chuckled. “That sounds nice. But for now, we have a mission to complete.” I turned to Fyrenthos, who was watching us with amusement. “Are you ready to go?” I asked him. He nodded. “Sure thing, king. But what about Kryo? Is he coming with us?” Kryo, who had been standing quietly in the corner, spoke up. “Of course I am. Just let me inform the council of our situation.” He walked away, leaving us to prepare for the portal. When he returned, we followed him to the Kingdom of the Crashing Thunder.
The gates of the kingdom were guarded by the same soldiers who had welcomed us years ago. They recognized me and saluted. “King Nox, welcome back to our land. King Zain will be delighted to see you again.” I wondered if they had tried to overthrow him while I was gone, but it seemed they had not. They let us in and escorted us to the palace, where we met Zain. After exchanging some polite and boring pleasantries, I got to the point. “We need to see Taranis. Our guardian Kryo here has some important news for him.” Zain nodded and led us to Taranis’s quarters. As soon as Taranis saw Kryo, he exclaimed, “Kryo! What are you doing here?” Kryo smiled and said, “My friend, the world needs our help once more.” Taranis did not hesitate. “If it’s about the shadow dragons, count me in.” Kryo clapped him on the shoulder. “I knew you would say that. Come on, let’s go. We still have to find Erebus.” He turned to me and winked. He had just persuaded the guardian for us in a second. He obviously knew him better than I did. We thanked Zain and asked him where the portal was. He pretended to be confused. “What portal?” he asked innocently. I rolled my eyes. “The one you used to visit my kingdom. Don’t play dumb with me.” He laughed and said, “All right, all right. Follow me.” He and his guards took us to another portal, different from the one Akira had shown us before.
After a long journey, we finally arrived at an outpost on the outskirts of the kingdom. A few guards greeted us and escorted us to the portal that would take us back to the jungle. As we stepped through the shimmering gateway, we felt a surge of heat and humidity. The jungle looked even more lush and wild than I remembered. It had been ten years since I last set foot in this place, and I wondered how much it had changed.
We didn’t have much time to admire the scenery, though. Suddenly, we heard a loud roar and saw a dark shape darting through the trees. It was a Shadow dragon, and he was running for his life. We quickly hid behind some thick bushes and watched as four other dragons chased him. They were Siveth and her brothers, along with a Water dragon I didn’t recognize right away. What a coincidence to run into them at this moment. They were about to kill someone, and we were about to witness it.
I whispered to my companions, “Let’s follow them from a safe distance. I want to see what they’ll do with the Shadow dragon.” I used my shadow element to turn us into shadows and trail behind them. The Shadow dragon looked panicked as he lost sight of his pursuers. He tried to fly away through the canopy, but then Vexus appeared on a branch above him. He lunged at him and bit him hard, poisoning him and preventing him from turning into a shadow. They both fell to the ground with a thud. The Shadow dragon was still alive, but barely. He had no visible wounds, except for the effects of Vexus’s venom.
“Got him!” Vexus shouted triumphantly.
“Good job, Vexus!” Siveth praised him.
“Good catch!” Caine added.
Siveth approached the Shadow dragon and looked at him with contempt. “Let’s bring this guy to Erebus,” she said coldly. It was exactly what she had told me years ago. They still followed the same orders.
We trailed them stealthily all the way to the village, where they had taken the captive Shadow dragon. Then we decided to make our presence known. The Shadow dragon caught a glimpse of us and attempted to utter something, but Siveth and the others turned around in shock. Siveth exclaimed, “Whaaat?” Vexus greeted me casually, “Hi Nox,” and Caine echoed him. Then Caine asked, “Ehm, how long have you been following us?” I said, “Since you were trying to capture that Shadow dragon,” he said, “Oh, does that bring back any memories?” I replied sarcastically, “Yeah, but he was luckier than me, I see.” She bombarded me with questions about everything and everyone who was with me, but we soon reached the village, where Erebus spotted them with the Shadow dragon. Then the other guardians noticed them too, and almost ignoring everyone else, he asked, “What brings you here, Taranis and Kryo?” They explained briefly, “We’re heading back to the temple. Son and Cyrus will be back soon, hopefully.” Erebus gasped in disbelief, “Really? No way. How?” I interjected, “Hi Erebus, I’m back too. I’ll fill you in on everything in a moment.”
I proceeded to tell Erebus the whole story, the plan, and my second self, while the others interrogated the Shadow dragon for information. Akira had a formidable weapon to threaten him with: the light sword. He probably knew what it could do to him. I could hear a lot of heated arguments. When I finished explaining everything to Erebus, we joined the conversation with the Shadow dragon.
After extracting the information from the Shadow dragon, Siveth turned to me and asked, “What do we do with him now?” The captive dragon pleaded, “Please, I don’t know anything else. Let me go. Spare me!” I shook my head sadly. “We can’t let you go. You’ve seen us already. I’m sorry.” He fell silent for a moment, then desperately offered, “I’ll do anything. Please.” Siveth decided to intimidate him further. She said, “He looks so vulnerable. I could kill him in a second.” He wrapped his coils around the Shadow dragon, who screamed, “No, please, I swear. I’ll say nothing.” Erebus intervened and suggested, “Let’s reset his memory and let him go.” The Shadow dragon protested, “Reset my memory? There must be another solution, right?” I said, “Well, I’d accept that if I were you. The other solution would be being executed by the same dragon that’s keeping you in his coils or running without your wings while bleeding with only a few minutes of advantage and then being chased by them again. The choice is yours.” He looked up at the sky, as if saying goodbye to his life, and said, “A memory reset sounds better. I’m sorry. I was just lost.” We proceeded with the memory reset, and Erebus prepared the spell. The Shadow dragon was paralyzed and watched as the spell took effect. He then lost consciousness, and we carried him away down the river after the waterfall and left him there. But before that, I noticed that he had a tracker on him, which I took and used.
Back at Erebus’s place, we convinced him to leave with us. Siveth, on the other hand, was officially living with the Water dragon. Sometimes she visited the kingdom of the Water dragons, but she spent most of her time here with him. The male Water dragon asked me, “Are you aware, dear King, that Hydra is still searching for you?” I replied, “Yeah, we’ve sent some water dragons in search of her, so she’ll hopefully stop.” Then Siveth said to him, “Maybe we could search for her together. What do you think?” He smiled and said, “Sounds good to me.” She was talking to him, not to us. Then she turned to Erebus and said, “I hope you don’t mind if we leave the village for some time again.” Erebus shrugged and said, “Do whatever you want. It looks like I’m leaving too.” Vexus and Caine asked in unison, “So we’re the only ones staying here?” Erebus nodded and said, “You should stay here and keep an eye on the area. If you find any other shadow dragons, bring them to the portal and to me at the kingdom of Aura. I’ll make sure to give you a safe path there.” They agreed, and we left.
We reached the portal, which was again covered by vegetation and dirt. This time, Vexus, Caine, and Siveth did the dirty work for me and Fyrenthos. Then we activated the portal and got to the kingdom of Aura Aetherius.

Genie part 4
Part One, Part Two, Part Three
Jason started asking him a lot of questions about being a genie. Salim took a long time in answering the first question-- what was the weirdest thing someone wished for-- because he wasn't sure what was considered “weird”. He gave several examples and felt that flutter inside him again when the answers made Jason laugh. Next Jason asked about some of the places Salim had been, and that took a long time in answering, too.
“Guess that's a perk of the job,” Jason mused. “You travel all over the world for free. I'm traveling on my own dime, which is why the hotel room I'm in is so shitty.” Salim didn't bother offering to take Jason on a free trip around the world; he already knew how Jason would respond.
Jason steered them toward an outdoor café where they sat to continue their conversation. Night was falling and their café had a beautiful view of the sun setting. Salim watched the colors shift from bright yellow to orange, nearly red. He didn't realize Jason was calling his name until he felt a touch on his shoulder.
“What do you wanna drink? The waiter's gonna be by soon.”
“Oh, I don't know.” On the rare times he was out of his vase long enough to need sustenance, he usually contented himself with water. But Jason was determined to not make wishes, so maybe it was all right to indulge a little. “Coffee,” he decided at last. “It smells good.”
The order was placed and Salim picked up the menu. He could ask for anything, he realized with a spinning head. His dreams showed him meals before but he never tasted any of them. He picked one at random and nearly moaned at the first bite. He sensed Jason watching him and glanced up, catching a warm smile on the human's face.
“You're fuckin' cute,” Jason told him. “Bet anything tastes good after five years.”
“I've never eaten anything before,” Salim confessed. “I've told you: the humans who woke me before make their wishes so quickly. And the magic in my vase keeps me sustained when I'm sleeping.”
“Jesus.” Jason frowned at his meal. He stabbed his fork into it and dropped it onto Salim's plate. “Try that.” Salim did and found it just as delicious as what he ordered. “Salim,” Jason spoke up. “Hasn't anyone ever tried wishing you free?”
“Yes.” Salim smiled remembering the human who wished it. “He was a young boy named Zain. Before him, I was kept by the same human and awoken once a year. Because of my magic, my master became a very powerful man, but he was not kind to his people. Zain stole my vase; he wished for my master to forget me, that all of his wealth and power would go back to how it was before he began wishing, and lastly for my freedom.”
“But it didn't work,” Jason argued. “You're still in that vase and you still gotta grant three wishes.”
“That's true,” Salim nodded. “But before Zain's wish, I was trapped by that ruler. The magic had no rule about who would wake me; he could keep rubbing my vase year after year and getting three more wishes. I was only granted a year because I lied to him and said I needed that time to rest and gather my magic. Thanks to Zain's wish, my vase moves to new hands every time. I've seen so much of the world.”
“And you wonder why I don't wanna wish,” Jason scowled. “Your magic fucked you over.”
Salim never thought of it like that. It had felt like freedom to him: a release from the one human he thought of as his master, a chance to see the world and meet new people. Salim knew he wouldn't be sitting here with Jason now if it wasn't for Zain's wish. He'd been awake all day and hadn't granted a single wish. Instead he walked with Jason and was enjoying food and coffee. His magic didn't “fuck him over”; it brought him here.
They finished the rest of their meal in silence. Afterward they went walking around again. Jason stopped to buy them both ice cream. Salim now understood why so many humans wished for food: it was all so delicious! They made it back to Jason's hotel room and Jason paused at the bathroom door.
“You wanna go first?” he offered. “It ain't a bath.” Salim didn't understand what the human meant at first. Then he remembered all his dreams of people washing themselves.
Inside the bathroom, Salim fiddled with the shower until he got water to come out. Standing there under the spray was the most luxurious feeling. He could have stayed under there all night if Jason didn't need his turn. Salim settled himself on the chair and watched the television while Jason washed up. This whole day was so strange to him. He wondered if he was still asleep and was dreaming all of this.
But he knew that couldn't be: in all of his dreams, he was an observer. He never got to participate. However Jason felt, he helped Salim enjoy these things. The human didn't seem as annoyed with Salim's presence. Maybe it was talking about Zain that brought this to mind, but Salim realized this was the first time since then that any human felt like a friend. Except his feelings for the two humans were very different. Zain never made Salim's insides flutter or cause Salim's heart to swell.
Jason exited the bathroom and Salim turned, feeling that swell in his heart looking at the human. Jason had changed clothes and was now wearing a worn shirt and sweatpants. His dark hair was still damp from the shower. Their eyes met and Jason gave him a little smile.
“You look pretty,” Salim told him. Jason went red and then he snorted, shaking his head.
“You got some sense of humor, Salim.” Salim wanted to insist but Jason was already looking away. “So... you should take the bed.”
“Take it where?”
“To sleep,” Jason clarified. “You take the bed. I can sleep on the floor.” Salim was confused; he only ever slept in his vase before. “I'd just feel weird makin' you sleep in that chair or on the floor,” Jason went on. His eyes darted to Salim briefly and then away.
“I'm not sure I need sleep,” Salim mused. “Not in the way you do.”
“Well, it's yours whenever.” Jason grabbed a pillow from the bed and dropped it on the floor, sitting on it next to Salim. Salim quickly understood what Jason meant about feeling weird and joined the human on the floor.
Salim shifted back into his normal dress. Jason eyed him but there was no annoyance in his gaze this time. The human's face was flushed red again, his look almost shy. Salim felt an unexplained urge to touch Jason. He moved his hand to cover Jason's. The human watched him with a strangely wary expression.
“Jason,” Salim began, but couldn't think of what else to say. The human truly was pretty: the shape of his jaw, the slope of his nose, the charming splash of freckles across his pale cheeks. Salim had no doubt seen pretty humans many times over the years but he didn't think much of it. With them it was all about granting wishes.
Jason didn't want wishes. Salim thought he didn't want the genie around at all, but that didn't seem the case. They stared at each other for a few heartbeats, then Jason pulled his hand away and wrapped his arms around his legs. The gesture gave Salim a strange pain in his heart.
And when he thought of Jason coming up with a wish that would send Salim away, that pain grew even more.

It's been a while!
Anyway, here's a new character of mine, Adley! Son of Zain and Frank (b. 1997), he joined the Marines at the age of 18, quickly rising through the ranks. At the age of 25, he became a Master Sergeant following in his father's footsteps. His boyfriend, Shane Sparks, and him fight side by side as Demon Dogs.
Hope you enjoy!!
Art and Adley belongs to me
Call of Duty belongs to Activision
I used a MARPAT pattern that I found on google.

Only 2 short shippy prompts all month! All 4 modern girls got a couple spotlights, various family cameos and backstories, a future prompt as is tradition, Zaine had a few posts, a few NPC-only scenes, a LOT of Endwalker, and even Ancient Icarus got a story, tying into 2021's "Destruct" prompt and how/why the siblings' souls have been connected through time and reincarnations.
A few of these are alternate takes on scenes I've touched on before, but it's interesting what a new prompt at a different time can get one to say, how we change as writers in what we focus on and how we say it.
This comes in roughly 300 words shorter than last year, at 18,493. The week of the 18-22 I had off work for my birthday, and that had the most 1k+ prompts, with a word count nearly double the other 3 full weeks. While the longer prompts are good, I'm really happy with how so many of the short ones turned out!
I was again trying to be realistic about my time, energy, not pushing free write days...and also working on an original writing project on the side, so I actually did do more writing over the month, just not FFXIV related!
(Also why some of my responses were in just under the wire...)
But this was a good break and exercise from that other writing, and let me try a few new things.
And comparing to earlier years--especially 2017 and 2018 when I was getting back onto the writing horse and feeling out my OCs--I feel like my growth as a writer, especially to be more succinct yet still evocative when needed, is evident. I've gotten a lot of practice in over time, and this challenge is one of the things that helped me get to where I can write an original story on top of my fanfic!
Breakdowns for funsies: Longest: 21 Grave; 1,652 words Shortest: 14 Clear; 106 words
Between 100-500 words: 1 Envoy; 2 Bark; 4 Off the Hook; 5 Barbarous; 7 Noisome; 8 Shed; 14 Clear; 15 Portentous; 26 Last; 27 Sole. Between 500-1000 words: 6 Ring; 11 Once Bitten, Twice Shy; 13 Check; 16 Jerk; 18 Fish Out of Water; 22 Fulsome; 23 Suit; 25 Call it a Day; 28 Blunt; 29 Contravention; 30 Amity. 1000+ words: 9 Fair; 12 Dowdy; 19 Weal; 20 Hamper; 21 Grave.
I didn't look at the totals until the end; I only checked some of the shorter ones during the challenge to see if they hit my personal "500+ words" cut off for adding a Read More to the posts.
"Grave" honestly could have been a lot shorter; I started the plot too early, and much as I like Zaine making one last visit to his childhood Nana, for the purposes of the challenge, I could have just focused on going to the lichyard to save myself time and energy, and wrote about the visit on my own another time. On the other hand, it's done now!
Not sure which is a favorite; there's a lot I like.
As usual, these will be revised at...some point (some more than others, probably) and added to Ao3, in my various series and threads.

MOURNING OF ZAFAR JINN IN KAR'BALA.
1)"Who is Zafar Jinn?
2)"Why he refused to go back in heaven?
3)"What was he doing in Kar'bala?
Let us analyse the 3 facts about Zafar Jinn .
We all know Jinns relations with Kar'bala and Ahlul-Bait (as) as some Jinns descended for the help of Imam Hussain (as) but Imam Hussain (as) refused their help.
This post is the meeting of Leader of Jinns (Zafar Jinn ) with the Poet of Ahlul-Bait (as) .
'MIR ANEES — The famous Marsiya writer and reciter of Hindustan'.
Those of you who knows Ur'du must be familiar with Mir Anees. He was the greatest poet in the history of Ur'du language a few centuries ago.
If one reads his poetry he/she feel as if Mir Anees is sitting in Kar'bala and writting.
Here's how attained such percise knowledge.
Mir Anees used to teach in a masjid/madrasa. Little children would come to his classes and learn Arabic/Quran/Deen etc.
One day, a young boy came to class who Mir Anees had never seen before.
Some thing seemed different about him from the first moment. His homework was always perfect. The boy was very hard working and very unusual.
One day, as the children were studying and Mir Anees was thinking of picking a pen (or something of that sort) from a window sill.
As he was thinking, the same young boy stood up and grabbed it and gave it to his teacher. [There is conflict among the story here as to what he did. Some scholars say that the boy performed some very heavy duty physical work that attracted the attention of Mir Anees] What ever the case Mir Anees was now sure that the boy was hiding something. So when all the students were about to leave. He ordered the young boy to stay after school.
When the masjid was empty and there was no one except the boy and Mir Anees.
Mir Anees asked him who are you?
Where are you from?
You have unhuman characteristics!!
The boy said I am the grandson of Zafar Jinn. Thus I am a Jinn.
My family has sent me to gain knowledge from you so I can recite majalis. And help my family remember the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (as). My grandfather is the one who replied to Imam Hussain's (as) call for help.
So Mir Anees asked him about his granfather?
He replied ever since the tragedy of Kar'bala, my grandfather roams in the mountains and had been crying, weeping, for he was unable to help Imam Hussain (as) and saw Him get sluaghtered helplessly.
The teacher asked his student to ask Zafar to come to the mosque.
The young Boy promised him to bring his grandfather at night.
Mir Anees was in the masjid alone.
A candle was lighted beside him and he was waiting for Zafar jinn. Shortly a shadow appeared in the court yard of the mosque.
And soon he saw a very old person entering. He was so old that his eye browse were hanging and blocking his eyes.
They exchanged greetings and Mir Anees asked him to tell the story of Kar'bala from the start.
There is a battle known as the Battle of Bair-Al-Alam, In which Imam Ali (as) fought the Jinns in a deep well to get water.
In it thousands of Jinns were killed and many more turned muslims. The evil leader was also killed. I Zaffar was chosen the new muslim leader of these Muslim Jinns.
Zafar Jinn was in Kar'bala.
When Imam Hussain (as) was alone in the plain of Kar'bala..after all His Children, Brother, Nephew and Friends were martyred .. HE said this famous line "HAL MIN NASIRIN YANSURNA" (Is there among you a friend to help Us)..not only once but He said it to four (4) corners of the world.
When Imam Zain Al-Abidin (as) heard His Father, He quicky raise Himself from His bed and said: "LABAIKA YAA IMAM" ( I am coming Oh Imam, I am coming)..but He was too sick and weak, and Sayyidah Zainab (sa) went and urge Him to lie back on bed.
The enemies was firm to kill Him.
No one answered His plea.
and the narations continue with this ..
"When all the Angels from heaven heard Master of the youth of Paradise (Imam Hussain (as)), they beg permission from Almighty Allah to help Him. Rows and rows of Angels came to help Him, just like when His Grandfather Holy Prophet (saww) prayed in Badr. A group of Jinn also heard this plea and they proceed to Kar'bala. They came and all of them stand to help Imam Hussain (as)"
An army of mankind had surrounded a tent.
A lone Man (Imam Hussain (as)) stood in the middle giving speeches. They realized Who it was and quickly went to Zafar Jinn (ra).
Zafar jinn (ra) sat on his throne, the jinns alerted him, he took off his ornaments and said: Get ready, we must reach my beloved Master (Imam Hussain (as)). Oh Allah (swt) please ensure that we arrive in time. Take our swords and let us make haste!!!
The army approached the Euphrates river and Zaffar (ra) said: With care, this is the Body of My Master (Imam Ali (as)) Son (Imam Hussain (as)).
Oh what a tragedy, what has befallen the kindred of Imam Ali (as)?
Then Zafar Jinn (ra) saw the Prophets (as), Messengers (as), Imams (as) and close ones of Allah (swt). He saw Imam Hussain (as) and had a lengthy conversation (Not going to say what). Zafar Jinn (ra) was taken with rage and told his army to attack the evil force.
Then Imam Hussain (as) stopped them and said: I have the power but this is the time of test, My Father's (as) companion (Zafar Jinn), it is unfair that you fight them whilst they can't see you. They are My Grandfathers (saww) ummah. Then Zafar Jinn (ra) went back having been ordered to do mourning and Majlis.
Zafar Jinn (ra) went back, put black in his kingdom and cried. His Mother found out and asked what had happened. She sent him back and told him to help the children in the route of Sham. Then he was sent away because Hazrat Sayyidah Fatima Al-Zahra (sa) was to come.....
P.S: 1- Didn't find any book for authentic reference but Shiite scholars narrate his story during their addresses Specially Agha S.Ali Hassan Qumi.
2- Some spell or call Zaffar/ Zafer or Jaffar.
