New Brooms & Pantries!!
More 21st Century Post-Punk for Your House
Wub-Fur presents another eclectic mix of new post-punk rock music that you should listen to. 19 tracks featuring selections by Iguana Death Cult, Egyptian Blue, Mannequin Pussy, Yard Act, Pylon Reenactment Society, Uranium Club, Hot Garbage, and a dozen more bands who know what “a new broom sweeps clean” means.
Cover Art by the Photoshop AI (we asked it for "Abstract album cover art for a compilation album of 21st century post-punk rock music"). Apologies to Ian Dury and the Blockheads, whose classic 1977 first album is the inspiration for the title of this mix.

The Isolation Tapes Part 12 - I heard it on the radio, Vol 9
I'm not sure how many more of these I will end up making... I mean, I will still be aimlessly throwing my mediocre mixtapes in to the online void, but the whole 'Isolation Tapes' thing as a title is pretty much redundant now.
I will still be playing my favourite tracks I've heard, or artists I've been introduced to, from BBC6Music's playlist though, as they still consistently play the best selection of music around.
As always, a mix of jazz, breaks, soundscapes, hip-hop, funk, blues, electronica, and a few others that really don't fit in to any discernible mould.
But yeah might do one more after this to round off on an even number, but feel the need for a change soon....
Dunno' why I'm writing all this shit though; just press play and get on with it yeah?

De Algemene Verwarring #101 - 13 November 2023
Episode one hundred and one of De Algemene Verwarring was broadcast on Monday, November 13, 2023, and you can listen to it by clicking on the link below that will take you directly to the Mixcloud page:
Pictured below are De Portables, the Belgian band from Bruges that played its very last show last Friday. They existed for about 27 years and have always been a part of my musical life. Unfortunately that last show was on the same day as the first day of the Sonic City festival here in Kortrijk, so I missed it, but I've seen them numerous times in the past and I've always thought that they would be around for ever. There are only a few bands like that, the ones that have been around all your life and that you assume will be there forever. Sonic Youth was one of those bands, The Ex is still one of those bands, The Cure is one of those bands, and De Portables was one of those bands. I'm quite sure that there will be more musical output from the different band members (I mean, for instance, listen to Wio's excellent Disintegration cover album), but still, this is the end of a musical era. And there are not a lot of Belgian bands with the same legacy as De Portables. I already played on of their excellent cover songs in the previous episode, and this time I'm playing the opening and title track of their album "Rosegarden". Thank you for the music!
This whole episode has a post festival vibe, there's only one very loud track, there's a lot of slow long tracks, a few drones, and a bit of krautrock. Bands in this episode include The Shifters, Sex Church, Stereolab, Lungfish, PJ Harvey, Hydroplane, Ordeal, K-Group, and a new Blod track to open the show. And beneath the photo you can find the playlist for the show. Enjoy!

20 Years of Remark Back to Mine. from Remark on Vimeo.
Two decades ago, I began experimenting with creating and curating continuous, non-dance soundscapes. I have a deep passion for ambient, new age, shoegaze, alternative, and post-rock music and was inspired to combine these elements into ornate aural narratives. I named the project Remark Back to Mine after the popular series of the same name.
To celebrate 20 years of Back to Mine, I am finally releasing the 23rd soundscape, titled “Ataraxia”. Defined as "a state of serene calmness”, this 5-hour journey transcends you into another dimension, free from this sad, painful world, where you can lose yourself entirely in the euphony of the universe. Experience the mix now exclusively via Soundcloud and Mixcloud. In addition, I’ve added five unreleased sessions from the archive to the Back to Mine playlist. “Existed”, “London”, “Couleurs”, “Hopelost”, and “Virtue” all explore a collection of emotions — from despair to heartbreak, indifference to excitement, inspiration to friendship.
Remark Back to Mine sessions reveal some of my most intimate sound selections and are engineered to provoke thought, reflection, emotion, and introspection. Most of these melodic contours are responses to chapters in my life: moving to a new country, best friendship, reactions to the world, heartbreak, contemplating life, equanimity, and falling in love. The sessions tell stories and explore the twists and turns of life — an intimate wander in subliminal emotion, a snapshot in time, a soundtrack to the soul. They often venture from the conscious to the unconscious. Sometimes peaceful, sometimes calming, sometimes mysterious, sometimes rocking. Explore twenty years of these curated soundscapes by listening to the Remark Back to Mine playlist now on Soundcloud and Mixcloud…and enjoy the ride.

Good morning! I hope you slept well and feel rested? Currently sitting at my desk, in my study, attired only in my blue towelling robe, enjoying my first cuppa of the day. Welcome to the working week although, for those of you in the NHS, welcome to just another day!
Another brilliant weekend, if I say so myself, just the way I designed it! Having worked her arse off at a very emotional funeral all day on Thursday, The Trouble needed the night off. So, Friday: we took it easy! Always lovely to have The Mighty Josiah buzzing around the house. It’s a shame we don’t get to see our other grandchildren. (Don’t ask!) Maybe that will change this year?
After the radio show on Saturday, we got on the M25 and we were in Reigate by 5.00. Our beautiful friends are spread far and wide. After many, many months, we finally caught up with our gorgeous friend, Dolly a.k.a. Tash Tillyard. There is only one person we know that is as sarcastic as me: Dolly! That tongue is merciless (and not in a good way!)
In fact, we talked about friendships quite a bit. I try, to the best of my ability, to spend quality time with those I care about but, as you know, it is time consuming! Yes, maintaining friendships is hard work! Meeting people means organising dates and times and places but, even if I have to drive to Reigate, it’s definitely worth it! And we have another dinner with very beautiful people this Thursday.
While walking away from the restaurant, we passed a branch of Richer Sounds! A blast from the past! A shop selling hi-fi equipment to the people of Reigate. “I feel like buying one of those and getting all my vinyl out!” said Dolly. Well, that is exactly what people are doing! On my Twitter feed, I subscribe to someone called The Record Deck. The blurb reads, “A floating record shop. Find our narrowboat full of selected second hand and new vinyl travelling on the canals of England.” Love it! I always retweet his posts. And, on my Instagram feed, I keep seeing this advert for this dude that will send you quality vinyl albums to help you start and build your first vinyl record collection. Love it! This movement is growing back again. People want the sound of that crackle, they want to feel the bass, they want the cover artwork and the sleeve notes, they want to feel that thing between their hands! They want to hear and touch and be consumed by the music! Something real! And who can blame them?
The boat people thing upsets me greatly. These poor people don’t ask for much. Just the opportunity to live a decent life and raise their families. Much attention is focused on them. Our government are Zen masters at wasting public money, so they are not being processed in Essex or Kent, nor in Wales or Scotland, they are being flown to Rwanda, which is a horrendous waste of our money. And what of the evil people that sold them a ticket to paradise? There are these heartless, godless smugglers that sweet-talk these battered and bruised ‘refugees’, and promise them that the streets of the UK are paved with gold. Understandably, these people are so desperate to escape violence, harassment, persecution and possible death, that they pay these smugglers big money to endure the most dangerous journey of their life. Some make it, some don’t. Why are governments not pursuing these smugglers? These are the real criminals.
Many thanks to everyone that listened to the show on Saturday afternoon, and many thanks to those that will listen to any part of it on Mixcloud. Gayle Dumont did a great job, didn’t she? This coming Saturday is The Letter L (Pt. 4). Executive Producer: one of my oldest friends, known him 45 years, Stephen Conway.
Have a marvellous and momentous Monday. I love you all.

De Algemene Verwarring #94 - 26 juni 2023
The ninety-fourth episode of De Algemene Verwarring was broadcast on Monday, June 26, 2023, and you can listen to it by clicking on the link below that will take you directly to the Mixcloud page:
https://www.mixcloud.com/MedialabKortrijk/de-algemene-verwarring-94-26-juni-2023/
Pictured below is a band called The Charlottes, a female fronted shoegaze/pop band from Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire in England. They formed in 1988, released two albums and a few EP’s, and got lost in the enormous amounts of shoegaze bands that were active in that area. To be honest, I had never heard of them before. I usually also don’t buy Record Store Day releases, but this one was smiling at me at a recent flea market in Kortrijk. The seller had attached some much needed “duiding” to the record, calling it ‘a milestone of the whole shoegaze and c-86 Indiepop era’, and compared the band to Black Tambourine and The Swirlies, So yes I was intrigued, especially by the reference to the C-86 cassette that was released by NME magazine in 1980 (later also released on LP by Rough Trade), so I bought it and wasn’t disappointed at all. It collects the LP “Lovehappy” with tracks from the 12″ “Liar” and the 12″ “Love In The Emptiness”. It also has a raging cover of Shocking Blue’s “Venus”. Iwanted to play a track from this record, and because I wasn’t really prepared for this episode, I quickly selected some records of what I call “meisjespop”, or girlie pop I guess. Some of the other girlie bands featured on this episode are Shop Assistants, Ribbon Stage, En Attendant Ana, Moxie, Dum Dum Girls, and Neo Boys. New stuff from Yfory, Annelies Monseré and Tramhaus, and old stuff from Cop Shoot Cop, Myelin Sheaths and My Bloody Valentine of course. Oh, and I’m also ranting about late night Brussels shows that I can’t attend. And below the photo you can find the playlist for this show. Enjoy!
Playlist:
Myelin Sheaths: Stackticon (7” “Stackticon” on Bachelor Records, 2009)
Frankie Traandruppel: Divided By Zero (LP “Castling” on Ronny Rex & Feles Music, 2023)
Neo Boys: Empty My Head (2xLP “Sooner Or Later” on K Records & Mississippi Records, 2013)
En Attendant Ana: I’ll Be Your Mirror (12” “Songs From The Cave” on Nominal Records, 2017)
Honey Radar: Carousel Society (LP “Ruby Puff Of Dust” on What’s Your Rupture Records, 2019)
Ribbon Stage: Nowhere Fast (LP “Hit With The Most” on K Records & Perennial records, 2022)
Yfory: Baled Y Dolmen (7” “Yfory” on Static Age Records, 2023)
Shop Assistants: All Day Long (LP “Shop Assistants” on Blue Guitar Records & Chrysalis Records, 1986)
