Not DL related, just otome but, I've been playing Moshikami recently, and just without doing an specific route, and just playing the prologue, I found disgusting that the special thing about the MC is that Men harass/stalk her on the street, I know it's because she has a god living in her body, but I don't know who decided to label this game as a "sweet adventure visual novel" when it's clearly not lol, sometimes 2010 otomes are obviously 2010 otomes.

MoshiKami - Sasanami Ace Route Review

okay so going into the game, i knew right off the bat that this was going to be intense, so i wasn’t super surprised when things went from 0-100 very quick. in fact, the entire common route is the MC getting bullied at school and harassed outside of school as well. there were SEVERAL instances of her getting stalked by random men on the street, and a lot of the times, they were close to assaulting her. this was probably the most… eventful common route i have come across in a game.

into the actual route itself. i didn’t even realize when i actually got into the route or anything until i saved and saw ace on the file.

overall, his route was surprisingly tame. i was expecting a lot more drama than what i got. however, i do have a feeling he’s going to be my favorite LI simply because he’s just… an undercover himbo 😭

like he and haruka will just be sitting there talking about school and whatnot, and out of nowhere, ace will say something so headass that you have to roll your eyes. it was beyond cute. he’s just a natural airhead. and it made me enjoy his character even more because he’s usually so quiet and serious that when he makes stupid comments like that, it just 😭

the side characters were also really good in this route *cough* akira *cough* (he deserved a route). i really wish they got more than what they did. akira sacrified himself at the end in order to bring haruka and ace back to the real world, and i just 🥲 i have never been so upset over a side character in my life, but here we are.

the romance in this was almost overshadowed by the constant drama (tomoko), but by the end of it, it mellowed out a little bit. usually, some otoges struggle with making me relate to the MC in the sense that i don’t really understand when and why she fell in love with a certain LI, but with ace, i could understand why they both started liking each other, and i appreciated that.

a lot of people who have played the game have said there’s a lot of gore, almost to an unnecessary degree, but ace’s route didn’t really have that. i’m assuming the other routes do, but what got me in ace’s route was just the descriptions of said gore. it can get pretty disturbing, with how they described the oni eating random civilians or when they described how tomoko turned into an oni and ate her first victim.

part of me is a bit worried about the rest of the routes since ace is the tamest, and *this* was part of the route 🗿

overall, ace was a well rounded character. he didn’t really bring anything new to the table, but i ended up really enjoying him anyway. i guess i’m just a big fan of quiet LIs who are undercover airheads, and ace was definitely a huge airhead 💀

Are there any otome games you would recommend?

// Hmm… I’d recommend these ones but keep in mind that some of the games presented here are really dark and treated in a more serious manner than DL, so if you got any problem with that, don’t buy them.

For starters, I feel like Code:Realize is a good game, because all love interests are likeable, it has a good plot and romance, and the heroine is amazing. If you’re into “light-hearted” games, you should play Radiant Tale, Cupid Parasite and Variable Barricade as well!

If you like games with some steamy moments, Olympia Soirée is for you! Despite those, I really like the world building and characters, plus Olympia is just soooo cute. She deserves being the eponymous character uwu. Contains some really shocking scenes but anywayyy. Another spicy yet intriguing game I like is Tengoku Struggle and yeah, that one got some triggers too, but I personally found it enjoyable overall.

How can I NOT mention Piofiore here? As far as I’ve seen, it’s currently one of the biggest otoge out there. The love interests are very interesting, yet they’re not necessarily good people and will do a lot of messed up stuff, therefore don’t play it if you’re into pure white princes. Some very sensitive and realistic themes are discussed there but if it helps, the cgs are stunning and I love how Lili changes her outfits and hairstyles so often!

If you love angst, tragedy, gore and despair, then play Black Wolves Saga, Virche and Moshikami. I won’t dwell on details for obvious reasons. xD

Other games I liked are Collar x Malice, Taishou x Alice, Ozmafia and Amnesia, but I feel like everyone already knows these ones, lol.

Lulu from Wand of Fortune, Cardia Beckford from Code Realize, Little Dracula from Princess Nightmare, Aspasia from Desert Kingdom, Teuta Bridges from Bustafellows, game Tamaki Kasuga from Hiiro no Kakera (wish she was more proactive), Beniyuri and Jed from the Psychedelica series, Haruka Nanami from Uta no Prince Sama, some of Lynette/Cupid from Cupid Parasite, Felicita from Arcana Famiglia (her personality is meh, but I love her design), Yui Shinomiya from Hatsukare, the heroine from the OZ: Himitsu no Ai drama cd, the heroine from the Paradise O Whisper drama cd, Haruka Kurumi from Moshikami, Ritsuka Tachibana from Dance with Devils, Vivian Wingfield from Tsubasa no Oka no Hime, Menou from Jooubachi no Oubou...that's all I can think of so far. I only have a few that I genuinely don't like.

Sorry if this is random, but what are your thoughts on Rejet's other games/cds? Do you like/dislike any of them? I also remember someone on Reddit saying that Rejet took risks with their content in their early years, and in my head I was like "yeah, but most of those decisions were garbage and only some of them worked."

I'm not really interested in their other stuff because dl made me not trust them.

The only other one I'm sort of familiar with is Marginal#4/Pythagoras. But I only listened to the songs to nicotine patch myself off the dl songs because they were addictively catchy but I needed to stop. M4 has the same composer so that's why it worked. I did watch the anime too for the heck of it, which wasn't bad but nothing too special. I know nothing about the game(s?).

The one thing I liked about it was how the songs make them seem so Flirty TM, but in the anime they're innocent and oblivious. 😂 There's an episode where apparently one of their songs is about making udon and it was a hoot.

I have a very vague awareness of Black Wolves Saga and Moshikami but all I know is Somehow Worse Than DL TM So I Will Not Touch It With A Ten Foot Pole.

I also kind of know about Gekka Ryouran Romance, but only the Daria route. This I talked about here.

I don't follow what they've been doing. I only know of the above things through someone mentioned it in relation to dl. M4 is the only one I looked up on purpose literally because same composer please dear god help me stop listening to dl songs because they make me hate life but it's also so dang catchy and I can't stop HELP. (It worked btw :))

Honestly, at this point I don't know if otome was ever really my thing? I mentioned that I got into it because of Arcana Famiglia, but I think it gave me a very inaccurate idea of what the genre was when you compare it to....everything else.

Uh basically TL/DR: I don't know and I don't care lol.

Meet the losers!

Whether it's because they are from less popular, less available, or unlocalized titles, or they just simply weren't best boy material (even for a worst boy) in comparison; these 4 LIs just didn't make the cut.

Here is a not so fun little introduction to these four trashbags and their series, as well as a list of some of their crimes!

Potential spoilers for Princess Closet, Black Wolves Saga, Moshi Kono Sekai ni Kamisama ga Iru to suru Naraba, and Dead Wishes under the cut.

First up, our biggest loser, garnering approximately 0 votes, Akito from Princess Closet! (Now defunct as a mobile app, but available on Nintendo switch through the Eshop)

Princess Closet involves the MC being discovered by a fashion designer randomly and being chosen to become a model. This leads her to having to work with a few new men in this endeavor.

Enter Akito, a professional photographer who is here to help the MC do her best!

.....Except not so much. While normal and nice around others, Akito verbally degrades the MC when alone. He strangles her on their first outing together, and isolates her from everyone else when she moves in with him. He controls her food and diet, and eventually buys a human sized bird cage to confine her in.

A full on abusive and highly volatile yandere, he definitely is the most trash LI in a game that is otherwise rather light.

Second up! Masato from the JP only game for PS Vita Moshi Kono Sekai ni Kamisama ga Iru to suru Naraba (MoshiKami).

The MC and her childhood friends are pulled into a new universe after writing letters to God and throwing them into the ocean, a lot of complicated things happen from there. If you are looking for a detailed description and review of the game and its route, breadmasterlee dot com has an excellent very detailed one!

Masato is the MCs stepbrother, and during their childhood the MC suffers CSA at the hands of her step-dad, which Masato knows about but sadly for the MC keeps secret. Masato becomes obsessive over the MC during this time. Eventually, him the MC, and one of his friends go to the beach. The friend assaults the MC, and when Masato discovers them he kills his friend then SAs the MC next to the corpse.

While the MC eventually blocks this event out, Masato continues to obsess over her.

His actions eventually pile up to include pulling her hair out of the shower to lick it, collecting her finger nail clippings, jacking it to her while she sleeps in the next room, killing her friends and family, and SAing her next to their dead bodies.

He got more votes than Akito....peace and love to whoever voted for this horror show, I hope you stay safe and take care of yourself 🙏

Next up, Mejojo Von Garbaldi! This cat is from Black Wolves Saga, available on PS vita and PC. While the game is unlocalized, an English fan patch exists for PC (which I can't provide instructions on because I never could get it to function, all apologies, Google and reddit are your friends!)

In Black Wolves Saga: Bloody Nightmare our MC is living in a tower due to her illness and weak constitution, until she is accused of being a witch and taken by Mejojo and his brother Auger to their castle.

Mejojo is obsessed with the MC, but seemingly as a stand in for his dead fiance that ran off with another person and was subsequently killed. Mejojo has done a lot of terrible things and is very warped from his past, if you are looking for a well done and detailed description of his route, there is an excellent one by Cherry on visualnovelreviews dot com!

In our MCs journey with Mejojo, he physically tortures and psychologically abuses her. He also is responsible for perpetuating the genocide against the wolves in this universe, and is behind the events that caused the MC to be taken from her home.

Overall, incredibly toxic! If this pretty and cruel cat boy was your choice, I wish you health and safety! 💜

Last but certainly not least....Mateo! Who is from the OEVLN Dead Wishes (available on steam and itch.io).

Dead Wishes is a horror themed romance with men and women as LI options and multiple story paths. The game opens with your MC being dead broke and about to be evicted, from there they meet various people that determine the next events of their life. For better, or worse...

Mateo is a member of the mafia is head of a gang of homeless youth. Unfortunately for our MC and well, everyone, he is extremely volatile, manipulative, and incredibly sadistic. He "helps" the MC but proceeds to commit all manners physical and mental abuse on them. At one point he jokes about SAing the children in his gang in order to force the MC to comply with his demands. Oh and he eventually amputates the MCs leg and leaves them in a dumpster until they lose their mind...

His route feels like a giant "how much more screwed up can we make this?" Writing exercise tbh. He is truly a terrifying sadistic yandere! But to someone, he was best, as he got multiple votes. I hope you are doing well and staying hydrated Mateo stans 🙏.

3. Kino

Being forgotten by your true "father" and abandoned in Rottenberg is a very sad scenario. Kino was also bullied because of his race, since the ghouls did not treat someone like him well. However, after releasing his powers, they began to respect him, so Kino became their leader, and unlike other characters, he also got Yuri, his friend, by his side. Kino is a mentally strong person, but he still struggles with it, especially given his resentment of the Sakamaki brothers for obtaining Karl's "love," even though they did nothing to him. He also gaslights others for "having it better," and dwells on his past to the point of obsession. It feels as if he doesn’t live for himself anymore, but merely for recognition.

2. Kou

Losing your wealth, ending up in a manhole, then in an orphanage where you were assaulted and exploited because you were a pretty child... As horrifying as it may sound, Kou has a very realistic past because the events that happened to him actually occurred in Romania during that time period. Honestly, despite his background, I'm surprised he's generally such a cheerful person. He would have been first on the list, but Kou never moved on from his experiences. He, like Kino, held a grudge against the Sakamakis for having "a better life" than him, despite the fact that he was unaware of their past. Anyway, he was in MB at the time, and based on DF and LE, he's doing much better now and is a sunshine boy, so he deserves this spot.

1. Ayato

I guess it's always been obvious that Ayato is mentally the healthiest Diaboy. His past is almost on the level of Haruka from Moshikami, which says a lot because it's so messed up that I wouldn't have been surprised if he lost all hope, but he didn't, which is really admirable.

Ayato never complained about what he went through, never gaslighted others for having it better, never engaged in a harmful coping mechanism and never projected on others. Yes, he has insecurities; he is afraid of not being loved or not being the best, but he is not dependent on these. He could still live peacefully without achieving them. Furthermore, he doesn't need a person to "fix" or help him deal with his struggles; he simply wants someone to appreciate and believe in him.

He's a carefree person who surprisingly prefers to look on the bright side and holds no resentment toward those who have wronged him as long as he knows their reasons and that everything turned out well. His ability to forgive people so easily is both a strength and a weakness because some people do such horrible things to you that they no longer deserve your forgiveness.

I like Kino but he literally burned you alive, beat you up, stole Yui, and wanted to sell you to the church to be slaughtered, but in the end, you gave him a second chance and were the first to integrate him and recognize him as a Sakamaki?? And normally, I wouldn't mind this since I give a bunch of second chances too but the thing is, nobody is willing to forgive AYATO if things go wrong, and that's painful because it's so unfair. ://

I might have realized why Karlheinz thinks Ayato is more special than anyone else, and this quote from his DF Ecstasy epilogue perfectly explains it:

Karlheinz (describing Ayato): Valuing your life, grieving, lamenting your misfortune, suffering…

And resisting!

That’s what Adam is all about!!

Basically, what makes Ayato the official Adam is the fact that unlike other demons, who are ignorant to death, he still has a desire to live and fights for it. No matter how much pain he has endured, nothing can break him.

One of the reasons his LE route was so reviled in the Japanese and English fandoms is that nothing hurts more than seeing an energetic and strong-willed character who appeared that way in seven games suddenly lose all hope and drown in misery.

I have written a too much about Ayato, but he deserves it. He’s not the smartest or most calculated guy, but he is unquestionably the most mentally strong one, and I doubt any other Diaboy would have ended up as approachable as Ayato if he had been in his position.
