₊˚ʚ ☁️ ₊˚ ♡ ゚. content warnings ⤸ sfw. reigen arataka x gn!reader. can be read as platonic/romantic. comfort from the one we love most. 500ish word count.
₊˚ʚ ☁️ ₊˚ ♡ ゚. author's note ⤸ originally posted on AO3! but i 'm back now :)
“Welcome to Spirits and Such Consultation– ah, hey! Been a while, huh?”
Reigen’s kind smile is what got you through the door the first time and now is no different; you gravitate towards its warmth, much like the planets to the Sun.
“So, what’s on your mind?”
You sit across the desk from him, unsure where to even begin.
“Feels like the whole world.” You decidedly mumble, your gaze averting his.
The smile on his face doesn’t falter but adapts. Something is bothering you and Reigen knows it; while you may have started out as just another client, you’ve become so much more. You have to know that, he thinks to himself as he watches you.
But much to his dismay, Reigen realizes you may not the longer you speak.
This is silly, you think to yourself but that doesn't stop your lips from moving; the words spill out of you faster than your thoughts can stop them and before you know it, you're baring your very soul to the man you once upon a time only saw every so often but now see nearly every week.
Tears have long been threatening to spill over but you didn’t realize they actually succeeded until Reigen leaned over with a handkerchief in hand.
It’s the handkerchief you gifted him for Christmas, which gives you pause. You blink away the water works as the gesture settles in, a look Reigen can read clear as day.
“What, you didn’t think I wouldn’t keep it on me at all times, did you? It’s practically the nicest thing I own!” His laughter earns him a soft smile out of you, a prize he would gladly cherish any day of the week.
As his chuckling fades, so does the levity. “I’m not going to say what you’re going through is easy because it’s not. You aren’t any less than for admitting it’s rough right now and I’m sure the last thing you want to hear is how strong you’re being or how you have to keep persevering but…”
You’re hanging on that last word with your breath caught in your throat.
“So I’m not.” Reigen’s hands cross the table to take yours in. His hold is firm, but comforting. “I’m going to tell you that you aren’t alone. “You have me, Mob, Serizawa… Hell, you know any one of those kids Tome’s always bringing around would go to bat for you anytime, anywhere.”
You snort, knowing damn well he knows each of their names.
“Hey, I’m being serious!” Reigen exclaims, immediately clearing his throat afterwards to get back on track, “My point is, you don’t have to go through any of it alone.”
He could have ended it there and soothed your heart all the same.
But Reigen Arataka is full of surprises, you’ve come to learn over the last few months.
“I don’t want you to go through it alone.” Reigen admits softly, his fingers curling around your hand to give it a squeeze. “Please. Let me?”
Your eyes drift to the sight of your hands being so tenderly cradled by his.
Well, what other answer could there be after seeing something that felt as perfect as it looked?
“Yes.”

I WANNA BE WITH YOU - serirei quick write
The office had been quiet for a bit, only the sounds of deep breathing, shuffling papers, and the click of a keyboard could be heard. Reigen sat in his office chair, his back folded like a shrimp as he tirelessly searched for new job openings. Meanwhile, Serizawa had been sitting at his little desk, looking over the assignments he had to do before his next exam came up. They were both bored out of their minds, to say the least.
Desperate for anything besides silence, Reigen tries to spark up a conversation with his coworker, “So…wanna do something, Katsuya?”
Serizawa's dark eyes peered over the papers and nervously responded, “I mean…sure. What do you have in mind, boss?”
“I told you that you don't have to call me that. Just call me Reigen. And- I was considering playing Truth or Dare with you. We barely get to talk outside of the office, so it might be nice to get to know each other a bit more.” Reigen's hands were flailing around as he spoke and Serizawa watched them, mesmerized.
“Don't you think we know a lot about each other already?” Serizawa let out a polite chuckle. “But, I wouldn't mind playing.”
“Great! Then let's get started. I'll go first.” Reigen displayed a cheeky grin as his swivel chair rolled across the floor to the front of Serizawa's desk. Serizawa returned the gesture with a friendly grin.
Reigen set his hands on the desk, folding them together as he began, “Truth or dare?”
Serizawa sat in deep thought before answering, “Truth.”
Of course, Reigen could be nice and ask questions about his past life as a student in high school. Perhaps talk about his ambitions in elementary school, or ask about his favorite food. But, he wanted to see a different kind of reaction from him. Flustered. It made Reigen's heart race, and he would give anything just to see him in a puddle of embarrassment.
“Have you ever had a girlfriend?” The question slipped through Reigen's lips and Serizawa noticed an obvious aura change. The once laid-back boss turned into…a desperate flirtatious man. But, Serizawa couldn't exactly pick up on the second part.
His face was flushed a crimson red as he mumbled, “No…that's an embarrassing question Reigen.”
“I don't believe so,” Reigen shrugged in response, “I want to get to know you as much as possible. It will improve our work relationship,  I promise.”
“If you say so…I believe it's my turn to ask. Truth or dare, Reigen?” Serizawa had been affected by such a personal question, and he began to fiddle his fingers in his lap. He could feel his face getting hot like a wildfire.
Reigen chuckled and kicked his feet onto the desk, “Truth. Hit me with anything.”
The position made Serizawa's heart skip a beat. His legs were tight in his ashy grey suit, and his jawline was defined as he leaned his head back. The pace of Serizawa's heart continued to get faster as he bit his lip, trying to bring himself back into reality.
“Have…have you had a girlfriend?” Serizawa mumbled nervously.
“What do you think?” Reigen proceeded to slip his jacket off his shoulders, and let it drag to the floor. “Sorry, I am getting a bit hot.”
Reigen was aware of Serizawa's embarrassment and only wanted to feed into it more. Even the slight movements of Reigen could melt Serizawa into a pool. So, Reigen began to undo his tie a bit, letting his bare neck be exposed to his coworker.
Serizawa had begun to form sweat on his forehead, the mix of summer warmth seeping into the office and tension starting to make him hot under his clothes.
“I think so…you're a very charming man Reigen. Any woman would want you.” Serizawa attempted to look away from Reigen, but Reigen tapped his heel on the desk, indicating for Serizawa to look back.
“Would you be surprised if I said that I haven't?” Reigen's grin spoke words as he stared into Serizawa's raven eyes. He looked like he was going to eat him alive. Serizawa nodded in response, his eyebrows curled with an expression of worry on his face. What was Reigen doing to him? This wasn't a normal thing to feel towards his boss.
Reigen took his feet off the desk and scooted his chair closer to the desk, leaning himself forward which made Serizawa squirm in his seat.
“My turn. Truth or dare?” Reigen rested his head onto his palms, continuing to stare into Serizawa's eyes. Serizawa didn't want another embarrassing question. So, he responded with a dare.
Reigen sat in thought for a moment, trying to brew up the perfect dare to embarrass Serizawa before he responded, “I dare you to tell me how you truly feel about me.”
Serizawa's eyebrows raised in confusion before he started to think. His mind became a deep sea, the moments of him and his boss crashing like waves against the sandy shores of his heart. The soft palms of Reigen ran along his neck while he was giving him his haircut, making the hairs on his arms stick up like thorns. Their fingers accidentally touch when walking on the street together, then arriving at the bar where Reigen would tease him mercilessly while he was tipsy. Serizawa would have to end up carrying him home, and he could feel the heavy breaths of his boss slip into his ear and it made him feel something he had never felt before. Reigen’s chest pressed up against Serizawa’s back awoken a fire that had kept growing larger since the first time that he saw Reigen. That fire was admiration for his boss. It would set his whole body ablaze and make his cheeks warm to the touch. At times Reigen thought he was having a fever, and would set the back of his hand onto Serizawa’s head, and then glide it down like ice to his cheeks, and hold it gently.  He couldn’t deny it any longer. This feeling he had been feeling this whole time was…love.
“Serizawa?” Reigen snapped Serizawa back into reality, and as he looked into his boss's eye, he wanted to pull him closer. He wanted to shut him up with his lips- what embarrassing thoughts.
“I see you as…” Serizawa bolted his eyes around the room, panic beginning to rush over him. He didn’t want to lie to Reigen, as he was his boss and he looked up to him a lot. But, if Reigen doesn’t feel the same and he told him… he doesn’t want to know what would happen next.
Serizawa looked at Reigen’s desk and saw the mug that said, “#1 Boss” as he muttered, “A great boss.”
Reigen rolled his eyes and let out a heavy sigh, slamming his head into his palm. Although it may have just seemed like he got friend-zoned, Reigen knew that he was lying to his face. If he just saw him as “a great boss” then he wouldn’t struggle so much to find the words. He wouldn’t have been acting like a fool every time he saw him. The list could go on forever.
“Whatever,” he playfully scoffed, “it’s your turn.”
Serizawa let out a sigh of relief as he asked Reigen, and to Serizawa’s surprise, he replied dare. Shoot- Serizawa didn’t have anything planned for this. He was going to ask Reigen how he felt about him- and now his plan was ruined. So he sat in thought for a few minutes before Reigen chimed in.
“Come on! There has to be something that you want me to do. Anything.”
Serizawa gulped and muttered without thinking, “I dare you to kiss me.”
Reigen couldn’t stop his jaw from dropping and the pace of his heart spiked. He couldn’t believe he said it. And, now that he had said it, he felt like he was melting away like lava below. He was so used to being the more “dominant” one that when Serizawa does it- he doesn’t know what to do.
“Serizawa, that’s very blunt. But, I wouldn’t mind it.” Reigen’s face had become the same shade as a tomato while his palms became sticky. His mind was filled with thoughts he couldn’t even comprehend right now.
Serizawa noticed the change in aura within Reigen and something inside of him snapped. Serizawa finally had the upper hand, and he wanted more of it. He wanted to see Reigen lose his cool over him. He wanted to see the frenzied look on his face once more.
Serizawa rose from his chair and Reigen’s eyes followed him. Reigen had suddenly felt so small compared to the beast upon him. Serizawa’s fingers ran along the desk before they pointed at Reigen. His fingertips seemed to glow violet as Reigen felt a sudden force come upon him. The blond rose from his chair and he almost landed face-first on the desk before his hands caught him. Serizawa’s grin sent chills down Reigen’s spine like a frosty, winter night. The now confident coworker let his hand wrap around Reigen’s tie like vines and he tugged gently on it, bringing the two closer together than ever before.
Their faces were inches apart, and Reigen could feel Serizawa’s hot breath run down his neck like vapor, which continued to make his face even hotter. Serizawa decided to let his hands slide up from the desk to Reigen’s chest and neck, and then finally his cheek. Reigen’s brain still couldn’t even process what was happening, but lord knows he has wanted this for so long. Too bad he couldn’t say it out loud.
“Do you want this?” Serizawa’s tone was now compassionate, which set Reigen at ease. Reigen nodded before verbally consenting. Serizawa leaned in, and their lips finally parted into a kiss. The world seemed to stop for a minute, as the two sat there. All care they could have had about their job, their past, or their future slipped away into the abyss as the two finally became one.
But then- the door hinges whined from a distance, which sent a wave of panic through both of them. WHAT WAS THAT!?
Reigen fell into his chair below him, his face still red as could be, and in a daze, as he saw a familiar face pop through the door. Mob.
“Hello master- uhm…” Mob surveyed his surroundings as he began to talk. Serizawa was…smiling? And Reigen looked helpless in his chair. Perhaps Reigen had gotten sick while he was away? Allergies were spreading around because of the changes in seasons.
“Hello Mob, Reigen was catching a fever due to the allergies, and I thought I would try and help him. You know how he is…” Serizawa quickly made an excuse, a cheeky grin on his face.
Mob nodded, totally oblivious to the situation, “Oh, alright. I was just popping in because I left my  jacket here yesterday. Sorry to bother you.”
“No worries. You’re hanging out with Hanazawa today, correct?” Serizawa attempted small talk while Reigen still had his jaw dropped, his eyes darting back and forth between Serizawa and Mob. What was going on? Could Mob really not notice anything?
Mob nodded and grabbed the jacket before putting it on. He waved goodbye, and the two noticed something before he closed the door. The jacket had an embroidered T on the back of it. They both looked at each other in confusion, before shrugging it off. Then, Serizawa looked at Reigen, his eyes filled with passion and love.
“So, would you like to continue, boss?”  ---END---

In which, after everything that has happened, Tsubomi regards different people.
Version of this post with page-by-page IDs is here. Personal notes under the cut.
i love mob psycho, followed it since before the anime had even started. i remember debating w people whether dimple was being controlled by the broccoli back in what, 2017? it has had a direct positive effect on my mental health. i mean the last arc being all about self-acceptance..... man. and i love comics generally and want to make more. this is the biggest comic ive made so far so im real proud of it as like a tribute especially considering i tried to use ones busted inking style with all the wobbly ass fixed width brushes
and also as like trying to honor the specific characters. tsubomi is cool bc in so few panels/words you get that she can be both stridently herself without caring what anyone else thinks and also deeply unhappy because she has to perform so much to maintain her image. shes just complicated and weird and i thought that was a place i could tell a story from. is mob ooc in this comic? probably a little lmao but only a little! i was fucking fascinated by th question how did they go from Having a Bad Time in a Park to talking on the phone regularly? and this is my take!! im so glad i got to make mob have to call her home phone *again* before he can get her mobile. really i wanted tsubomi to be able to see that despite everything, through all the hours and social pressures and gaps in understanding, you won't always be alone.
anyway. this is too many words for a comic you could read in 2 minutes. i cant say much else because thats what the comic is for. i cant say enough how fucking cool it is that hundreds of people have read my comics and liked them, i cherish all the tags. its a wonderful feeling. i hope you enjoyed reading! peace.

When it comes to the mp100 ageswap AU, the most interesting thing (for me, at least) is figuring out how exactly a storyline for it would work - after all, Mob growing up without Reigen would be a totally different guy, right? Well. I have a scenario that I made up in my brain, and I'm going to do my best to explain it below!
[Edit: this ended up being sort of a prologue/backstory, so I suppose.. it's a fic now? I tried to split the sections like chapters/episodes after accidentally writing too much but oh boy this is not what I set out to do]
---------------------
After hurting Ritsu accidentally as children, Mob becomes afraid of his own power, and anxious about using it. He also becomes awkward around others in general, as he cannot imagine being able to stop himself if he accidentally hits ??? and hurts them. Ritsu is upset and angry that Shigeo has decided not to use his powers anymore, and becomes a bit cold toward him for it, but they are friendly with each other for the most part. [This is pretty much unchanged]
During middle school, Shigeo decides to join the body improvement club in order to cast aside the need for most of his powers - if not all, by focusing on his physical body. As Musashi is a kind-hearted guy, the telepathy club is invited to use the room as a place to hang out, as they cannot exist as a club without a room. Mob, who struggles a lot with physical exercise, often ends up spending a fair amount of time around Tome and the others in the club. Although at first he's bitter and cold toward her for thinking psychic powers are a good/cool thing [bitter and cold in his own way, ie "you,, don't understand what you're talking about.. psychic powers are.. dangerous.." sort of energy], eventually her genuine enthusiasm breaks him down, and he agrees to help her search for espers, while himself not expressing that he is one.
At this point, Shigeo and Ritsu don't speak much, but they are amicable toward one another. Ritsu respects that Shigeo wants to improve as a person, but is also filled with anger that Shigeo refuses to use his natural abilities, and even more anger at himself for causing Shigeo to stop using them. Ritsu becomes a bit of a danger to himself and others, and finds himself tricked/persuaded by Onigawara and crew to assist them in an attack on a neighbouring school.
Ritsu (who was only really acting out, but is generally a good guy) freaks out when met with Hanazawa, an esper that wants to hurt others, and realises why exactly his older brother has been afraid to use his powers for so long. Viewing the destruction caused by the newcomer, he engages Hanazawa in a conversation, explaining that he should be more careful with his power, that people will get hurt, and asks that he stop. Hanazawa is extremely angered by this, believing himself to be the main character of the world, and attacks Ritsu. Through an extremely painful and stressful fight, Ritsu's powers are awakened, and elsewhere Shigeo is alerted to the feeling of two espers exerting a lot of power.
However, he would rather avoid joining the fight, and waits for the energy to die down, afraid he'd only make it worse by being a third esper in the fight. Then the house phone rings, so he picks up (as neither of his parents can come to the phone). On the other end is an already very unhinged Hanazawa, telling him that he'd beaten his younger brother in a fight, and had been asked to call him to get picked up. Ritsu's thinking was partially that Shigeo would be strong enough to protect him and take him home safely, and partially that it would help Shigeo come to terms with the fact he can't avoid his powers all his life. He wants his brother to accept his powers, after all.
The call ignites Shigeo's strong feelings of protection over his younger brother, and he immediately gets up to go to where he is and save him. By the time he reaches the school, he's already at a pretty negative point emotionally, quick to become dangerous. Hanazawa is very quickly beaten up, no exchanging of names or invitations of friendship, as Shigeo clearly sees him as an enemy from the get-go (for hurting Ritsu quite badly), and the feeling is mutual (because he lost and has to accept that he's weaker than someone). Shigeo saves Ritsu, takes him home, and passes out from exhaustion pretty quickly (physcial and mental).
--
When he returns to school the next day, his memories of the previous day are hazy, but he feels awful. Tome shows him a clip from the news of a school being destroyed, where she recognises him - and with an added remark of Inukawa remembering that Mob used to say he was a psychic, she asks if it was Shigeo's doing. Shigeo, who is upset by the events he can recall, and the ones he is being shown, becomes anguished - but the members of the telepathy group say that his actions were, in a way, heroic, and he quickly calms down, surprised to hear their positive response. Tome says he kind of overkilled it and shouldn't have destroyed a school, but that he stood up for his brother and protected him, which isn't that bad a thing to do. She then complains about him hiding his psychic powers from her, though she makes light of the situation and says he's probably got his reasons for hiding them, preventing Shigeo from becoming too upset by the scolding. She suggests that he has to become confident with his powers if he wants to be a real hero-type, and tells him to consider what he wants to do with them now that people know. Luckily as the footage captured isn't too clear, the unpopular Shigeo is not noticed, and the goody-two-shoes Ritsu is considered above suspicion. [Teru may or may not have been recognised by his school board, but I'm undecided. I lean toward him being recognised, but eh.]
Mezato is also interested by the news, and begins searching for the 3 people briefly shown in the news clip, who were hard to make out in the footage (Ritsu, Hanazawa, and Shigeo) but she is no amateur. She stumbles across Ritsu and questions him, but he's dark, angsty, and passive, newly awakened to psychic powers after being extremely injured, and a fair bit traumatised from the event. She pens him down as a possible instigator, and through a cryptic line like "my brother was right about having power being a bad thing," she goes to track Shigeo down, who encourages her to stop looking into it, as it's dangerous. She keeps her eye on both of them from this point on, as she has a faint idea that this could be the scoop of a lifetime.
As a result of the fight with Hanazawa, Ritsu starts practicing with his powers in secret. He's powerful, but new to his abilities, and afraid to bump into others like Hanazawa again without being able to use psychic power properly. Especially now that he knows he's weak compared to his older brother, who was vicious during the fight - even if it was in order to protect him. However, while practicing his powers, he is approached by Hanazawa himself, who tells him he can help him train, using the same justification that Shigeo is so overwhelmingly powerful that Ritsu needs to be able to defend himself "just in case something were to set him off again". They do not see eye-to-eye on this necessarily, but Ritsu sees the use in having a talented esper to help him train, and accepts the offer.
Meanwhile, Tome is trying to encourage Mob to be more confident with his powers, and to use them to help others, like a superhero. Although they usually hung out to search for telepaths in the past, she begins using this time to encourage him to help people in ways only he can, such as tripping purse snatchers, calming down lost children, and fixing broken things, all using his innate psychic abilities. Shigeo is learning slowly to use his powers in ways that make him feel good, and eventually, one of the telepathy club members suggests that he should try to exorcise a local ghost they heard about. Tome declares it a club excursion, and they all go to the abandoned building in which the ghost apparently resides.
Once there, they discover two other espers already on the case. Shigeo is surprised to see his brother there, along with the boy who had beaten him up a month or so ago. Ritsu explains that his powers had awoken, and he's been secretly training with Hanazawa, who seems to be intensely afraid of Shigeo. Shigeo asks if this is why Ritsu has barely been home the last few weeks, says their parents are worried, and that he should go home. Ritsu says he can't go home comfortably until he can control his power, "which you should understand, nii-san" and Shigeo is conflicted to learn that he has accidentally made Ritsu fearful of a power he's recently been making peace with.
Ritsu and Hanazawa go on ahead, and Shigeo isn't sure what he wants to do, wanting Ritsu to feel comfortable with his powers, (aka, let him try and exorcise the ghost, as he had intended to for training) but also wanting to send him home and keep him safe. He also feels apprehensive about Ritsu forging a friendship with someone he considers to be a bad person. Tome suggests they follow them, just in case, and Shigeo agrees with her judgement.
The spirit causing trouble turns out to be extremely dangerous, injuring both Ritsu and Hanazawa, as well as the telepathy club members. Shigeo steps in to protect them all from the spirit, and this also means protecting Hanazawa, who has become like a second brother to Ritsu over the last month. Hanazawa suddenly realises that Shigeo is a good person, but Ritsu becomes even more anguished due to his many conflicting feelings about psychic powers - how he couldn't do anything against the spirit, how Hanazawa suddenly seems in awe of his much stronger brother, and how Shigeo is able to destroy the spirit with ease, when neither of them could do anything special.
Hanazawa leaves with Ritsu, whose personality is becoming more twisted by the minute, confused at his feelings toward himself, and with feelings of fear and jealousy toward his brother, who suddenly seems comfortable using his psychic powers. This troubles him, when he had no idea Shigeo had also been 'training' his powers all this time [aka, he's getting it into his own head that Shigeo is intending to get stronger, rather than what we know; that he's trying to gain confidence].
--
Over the next while, he spends less and less time at home, only there to eat with the family - spending most of his time with Hanazawa, who stays by him, having become increasingly worried about his motivations. On the other side, Tome continues to help Shigeo to use his powers for noble causes, while he also continues activities with the body improvement club, which now includes Onigawara, who had witnessed Shigeo defeating Hanazawa and decided to learn more about him, only to enjoy the daily life of the club and become a member for real. [This is a weak plotline, subject to change, but I like Onigawara joining the club ok]
The telepathy club, other than Tome, no longer go with them on ghost visits due to the harrowing nature of the first. Even so, they keep ears to the ground to help them seek ghost rumours out, and are supportive of the good work they do for the locals. Shigeo is happily led by Tome's enthusiasm and strong sense of justice, and continues to help her search for other espers (especially telepaths) while exorcising ghosts and doing good deeds. He relies on her greatly for her personality, and doesn't feel a need to speak up too much - she views him as her equal and follows his judgement around spirits without making him feel uncomfortable.
During high school, despite being separated, Tome and Shigeo continue to work together on weekends. They are known locally as a pair of psychics, even though only one is an actual psychic - Tome is happy to be considered a psychic by association, however, and enjoys helping Shigeo in any way she can while on the job. This usually ends up in her speaking to the people they're helping; dealing with the social aspects that Shigeo finds uncomfortable, while Shigeo focuses his energy on the psychic work. She however does adopt moves such as Salt Splash after discovering that purified salt can weaken spirits, as a mechanism for self defence in dire situations.
At the same time (high school), Ritsu and Hanazawa have begun to pick up a following of espers who feel that their powers have made them alienated from society, and who want to be treated as normal people (the awakening lab crew), who they have begun to train, also. Ritsu has become more twisted by his need to prove his strength and worth against his brother, but is battling his own thoughts on this constantly - his brother would never hurt him, but what if? [Think: the anti-villain who believes they're an anti-hero and blurs the line as they fall deeper into their mess].
Hanazawa stays by Ritsu's side to remind him not to go off the deep end, and to continue helping him understand that Shigeo isn't his enemy [nobody here is a villain technically]. He tries to encourage Ritsu to speak to his brother about his feelings while he still can, but Ritsu (who is aware that his brother is now a local celebrity due to his powers) has become prey to his feelings of inadequacy. He believes he shouldn't speak to Shigeo until he's ready to fight him and defeat him, proving his worth as an esper, and a person. Hanazawa isn't sure that's for the best, but he continues to stay by Ritsu and support him, as he feels responsible for driving Ritsu to believe Shigeo was in any way dangerous when they first met.
-- timeskip to adulthood --
As adults, (around 24/25 [pssh, "adults"]) Tome opens Spirits and Such, alongside Mob, who has no other career path in mind, and is happy so long as Tome deals with people so he doesn't have to. Outside of his work with s&s, he is a bit of a recluse, shy around others, and still a little nervous about the powers he knows he's holding back, mostly staying in his apartment to avoid danger or conflict. Even so, he continues to regularly exercise, and helps the people around town when he can, while trying not to be noticed too much [this Shigeo is more socially anxious due to Tome taking on the bulk of social activity around him while they grew up].
Shou, who had heard of their work, and shares their strong sense of justice and desire to Do Good, comes one day to visit them. He notices very quickly that Shigeo is much more powerful than he lets on, and asks directly if he's content hiding so much of his power, a little disappointed in him. Shigeo (who has an easier time talking to spirits and fellow espers) explains that as a child, he'd hurt his brother, and has never truly recovered from the trauma, leaving an almost lifelong mental block on the bulk of his power. [This is something he feels he is able to speak about with other espers, and for comedic effect, Tome probably had no idea all this time and is shocked to find out something like that happened, when she thought the first time he used his powers to fight was during the fight with Hanazawa] Shou seems to understand his issue, and takes pity on him, explaining that he'll try to help Shigeo use and control the deeper powers he holds, giving him a business card for an esper research lab, and leaving.
Ritsu suddenly disappears after finishing university, and Shigeo (without hesitation) begins to use his free time to search for him, against Tome's better judgement. He has some leads, like Hanazawa becoming a celebrity psychic, though he's not sure how to go about meeting a celebrity, and Shou's mysterious esper research lab, though he isn't sure if Ritsu even knows about that. Sadly, he doesn't know how to go about following leads, when until now he's always followed Tome's judgements, so he's so far gotten absolutely nowhere.
This is about the time that LOL cult is being formed, and Reigen, a middle school boy, finds himself in the middle of a very dangerous situation. But luckily, S&S have been asked to check the shady organisation out by local reporter and friend of the business, Mezato, and Tome is sending in her best (and only) co-worker to get the job done.

Oh no I accidentally wrote a half-assed ageswap AU fanfiction? [REAL] This ended up being a whole prologue and being waaaay too big for me to tell the rest of the storyline in my head in just one post.......... 😳 So uh,,, let me know if you would want more of it 😳 (I even tried to make it brief!! This is not brief!!)

normally I would just put this in the tags of a critical post to keep it concise, but sadly rbs have been turned off! I guess dogpiling sucks when it happens to YOU, right? anyways,
just wanted to say that, yeah, it's proper fandom etiquette to tag things. even if they are only mentioned and then later confirmed to not actually be happening in the fic. That said ,, and before we forget, it is not a REQUIREMENT. Just as it's not a requirement for fic writers to post and share their products at all. Just as it's not a requirement to read and consume then. When people provide completely free services (like, say, writing, editing, and publishing and entire novel), and it's entirely up to you on whether or not to consume those services, it's a little weird to make extra demands, no? And especially to inflate these demands to the point of character assassination; not only dogpiling on the author, but all of the authors fandom friends, leading them to delete all of their soc med and hard crafted works in the process.
so you didn't like someone's fanfiction. and it was POPULAR fanfiction! that sucks. But arguments about transphobia, racism, pedophilia, etc. have already been well disputed in the very post I can't reblog, and I think it's abundantly clear that the author should not be punished for following established canon (i.e. Claw's canonical torture of children and Toichiro Suzuki's openly proclaimed eugenicist goals in taking over the world for "superior" ESPers) to a logical conclusion and for adding a layer of realism to the work.
It's not their fault you, quite frankly, didn't think very hard about what you saw and understood in both S1 and S2 of mob psycho. it sucks that it makes you uncomfortable. But it's not a stranger's job on the internet to completely wash their works of anything that reflect messy and uncomfortable reality to coddle you, a voluntary consumer of their media. And a fan writer absolutely should not be punished for producing a canon-universe work, when you yourself are a fan of the canon. The fan author, very obviously, does not condone transphobia, racism, pedophilia, or any other accused thing, just by depicting it in their freely made and voluntarily consumed fanwork. Just as ONE, very obviously, does not condone the torture of children, or child abuse, just by depicting it in Claw's organization and in Shou and Toichiro's relationship.
All of what I've said is about Side Quest, but it's absolutely disgusting that for some reason, the backlash over that specific fic went over mere criticisms of the work to harassing the author. Not only this, but to use the final chapter of Side Quest, and all of the produced fan art within it, as a blacklist of Twitter handles and social medias to then ALSO harass the authors fandom friends is purely unacceptable behavior. If you want an author to tag their works better, simply ask them to do so; do not harass them and their friends. If you want your "fandom" and "ship" to stay alive, you MUST learn how to dislike things normally and respectfully; otherwise, how can you expect people to continue to produce novels for free? At a minimum, you need to recognize that your fellow fans are real, live people and do not deserve targeted harassment, and if you truly believe them to be dangerous, contact a moderation team and avoid their fanworks.
on a personal level, I'm offended that you think I, and many others who genuinely enjoyed Side Quest, lack media literacy. I've always been a fan of canon compliant and divergent fics that follow canon implications to their logical conclusions, especially when that involves recognizing the problematic and uncomfortable aspects of reality. You may have watched mob psycho uncritically, but I did not, nor did I read Side Quest uncritically. I'm frustrated that these projections have led to more of my little joys and favorite thought-provoking fic becoming inaccessible to me, but mostly... I'm sad that these authors shared their works while not fully understanding how uncritical, reactionary, and ungrateful their audience truly was.

Short: Slap Jack
(I THINK that's the name of this card game. Heard like 10 diff names growing up. Anyway...)
Alright, it's writing time! Did a short inspired by amazing @mtndw-whteout age swap, detective AU. Freaking love their manic Teru and Shou and the lil esper Mafia.
TW: Blood, Gore, Violence, Slurs
--------------
King.
Queen.
Three.
Seven.
Four.
Shou reached down to take the mini pile of cards that had formed, shuffling them loosely back into his stack.
“Where’s that Jack?”
Blue eyes flicked from the table to Shou’s hands. He clutched his larger deck in his hands ready to start again.
“Don’t accuse me of some sorta fast finger work.” Smoke trailed form his nostrils, more following as he chewed on the near finished cigarette, exhaling to last bits of tobacco. “I’m not a cheater like you.”
Teru held up a card between two fingers in preparation for his first turn. The inside faced Shou displaying the Ace of Diamonds in gold ink amid the black backdrop with the suit in blood red.  “Perish the thought.” He flicked his wrist and the Ace spun on a corner before landing right side up at the center of the desk between them. “Just wondering is all. My three are so lonely without their friend.”
A flick of the tongue. Shou tossed his card next.
Five.
Queen.
Ten.
Ace.
The room hovered in a dusty shadow more brought on by the ash and smoke than any lack of cleanliness. Leave it to him to find a place like this: right out of an old movie with the taxidermy deer and wolf heads and all. Hand carved mahogany desk with matching wall panels, a mirrored bar in the corner all silver flasks and crystal glass ware. Even managed to get an H laser etched into each. Gold framed the pair of stools at the bar with more of the glinting metal acting as a crown finish for the desk.
Shou abandoned his current cigarette and ignored his next few tosses with his hand bloated with trash as it was. The match hissed before flashing, bringing a glow to his face while leaned back to watch his boss take the meager winnings.
“What yah got? Like 13 left?”
“15. And don’t you worry about me.”
Always that grin. Shou rolled his eyes. They continued countering face cards with face cards, building a growing stack. Teru visibly twitched as each of his prized jacks were foiled by some petty ace or king. He never smoked, at least as far as Shou had noticed.  Didn’t ask either in case he’d be in for some rant about hair and skin health. For a moment a thought slipped into his head: then why did he allow me to right in his office?  Better not dwell on that too much- Shou never enjoyed power dynamics and pointless strutting amid social standings. Better to leave that to someone like his boss.
The only source of light came from a single, small lamp on the far side of their playing field. Still, it was enough to reflect off the several swords that hung on the wall directly behind. He always through the clash of time periods looked tacky: a board sword above a tanto with some sabers and things he didn’t really recognize. Then again, knives were not really his thing.
Five.
Six.
Six-
Shou reached out but was too slow. He pulled his hand back and took a long draw of his cigarette while he tried to keep count of card patterns in each of their piles. Teru clenched his finger over the meager win and dragged it back to his side.
“Say, what do you think of the northern territory?” Blond hair swished as he idly played along his ear with a free hand. The piercings that led along the cartilage were just as shiny as the blades that hung on the wall.
More uninteresting wins and losses, Teru always keeping his number of cards steady.
“The one against the industrial tracks?
The grin widened. “Yes.”
“Odd choice. There’s those mules that took up residence there years ago.” Shou threw out his card.
Teru followed. “True, they are very attached to that place. Perhaps they need a bit of convincing.”
Nine.
King.
Ace.
Jack.
“Ah, there we go.” He tossed his next in confidence.
King.
Shou let out a sigh.
Four.
Eight.
Eight-
He was barely fast enough. Flinching, Shou tried to hide his pain as the bottom of several rings dug into the top of his hand right after he has slapped just a moment before his boss. Teru’s fingers were tensed like claws as he released the pressure and gave up his precious prize.
“Bravo.” He clapped his hands together by his face, sitting back in the large, leather chair. So long it had been in the office that the long dead hide was now stained red. “I concede.”
Shou let out a long exhale as the tension finally began to fade, nursing his new bruises. Smoke rose between the two.
“You want us to take them out?”
Teru remained flush in his chair, going over what was left of his cards one by one until he placed them on desk face up. His smile had faded but the glint in his eyes still betrayed whatever chaotic intentions were still at work under those perfectly manicured blond locks.
“How sweet of you to offer.”
He watched his boss swivel around to the bar, gathering up two glasses and some fancy whisky or whatever. Ice clinked before a deep, dark gold liquid was poured. Booze also wasn’t Shou’s thing. But he was more than happy to accept.
“But no. Instead sweep up to the tracks on either side. Put a little fear into our wonderful patrons.” Teru bought the glass up to his face but didn’t take a sip, only hovering it before his nose enjoying the scent.  “I’m sick of dealing with the little rats still thinking they have a chance.”
Shou blinked as the liqueur burned down his throat. “But- wait. Those drug runners are savages. All full of guns and greed. Heard they got these three brothers that lead with an iron fist. Good luck getting them all at once. Be like fighting a hydra.”
And there it was again. That grin. Shou always wondered if his boss had naturally sharp canines or had gotten some under the table dentistry work done to appear even more unhinged. Knowing him, probably the latter.
“That will be taken care of momentarily.”
As if on cue a crash echoed through the wall.  Shou sat up as a window was broken followed by gun fire.
“Shit. I left the new guys out there.”
Teru stood as well, calmly reaching over the desk. Shou glared down at the tight grip now on his arm, his leather jacket not stopping the pinch.
“And I sent them away. It’s just us here, how lovely is that?” Teru sat back down, the chair looming behind him, his long blond locks covering the intent of his eyes. He tented his hands in front of him and gave a single nod. “Please be a good boy and invite our guests in, will you?”
Shou took his arm back. After a long pull he abandoned his cigarette in the ashtray and stormed off. Creepy fucker. Good thing I’m on his side.
The armed men stood in the front office. Broken glass and papers were scattered on the floor. The far window lay shattered letting in some of the breeze. They were still digging through drawers and cabinets before Shou walked in, finding himself not even shocked that his boss had somehow got all three brothers together. He didn’t even have a chance to give a sassy quip before they noticed him.
“Fang scum!”
A gun was already shoved into his chest; some semi automatic junk they’d been selling in bulk all over the city. He tried to see if they had any aftermarket modifications he’s be interested in. Nope. How boring. Knives he didn’t give a fuck about, nor fancy wines that cost more than his monthly rent per bottle. But guns- guns he could handle.  Shou didn’t even raise his hands, instead narrowing his blue eyes and exhaling his lung of smoke at the new guests.
“You could at least say hi first.” A sneer as he licked at his front teeth, glancing back down at the guns. “Or maybe you’re compensating for somethin’?
The barrel was shoved into his ribs, yet he still didn’t react only stared back at the resulting scowls.
“Fucker! Don’t be cocky with us.” Hands took him by the shoulders as another set slipped under his open leather jacket. “Ain’t letting some mulleted punk back stab me. Where’s your weapon?”
Shou was giving his own grin now, jaw tense at the throw away comment about his hair. His hands flexed at his sides but kept his cool knowing the fate awaiting these fools.
“Don’t got one. And don’t need one.”
They finished searching him and shoved him into a corner, guns always threateneing.
“Eh, he’s stupid but honest.”
“Want me to kill him?”
The eldest brother stared into Shou’s eyes only getting a blue, unafraid glare black. “If he’s not gone by the time we leave, I will.”
“Boss will see you now.”
Shou cracked a smirk back as he watched them enter the boss’s office, then stepped forward and closed the door behind them with a purposeful click.
“Have fun.”
The men shuffled inside, eyes trying to adjust to the low light. After a moment they noticed the man at the desk. The youngest stifled a laugh while the older one let out a scoff. Pastel painted nails and a gaudy bright dress shirt and pants against their gruff leather jackets and torn jeans. Teru ‘s expression still remained behind left over ash tray smoke and his long hair, but his confident lips were every visible.
“So, you’re the leader of Fang?”
“The one and only.” Teru opened his arms in an exaggerated gesture. “Welcome! Save a seat. Would you like a drink?”
The three bothers stood fast, exchanging looks.
“Not very talkative, are we? Well that’s alright.” Teru set out three glasses. “I can do all the speaking.”
“What the fuck is this.”
“Is he alone?”
“This faggot’s been giving us trouble?”
Teru grinned at the continued whispering. His back arced and he cracked his neck before rising, slipping around the desk.
“Gentlemen, no need to be so secretive.” Teru reached up with his jewelry adorned fingers and tugged at one of the men’s collars. “We’re all friends here.”
Three guns were pointed straight at his face. Like Shou, Teru didn’t flinch, instead eying the barrels with a bemused smile.
“You’re a bit outmatched to be acting like some puffed up fool.”
A full grin flashed, eyes above the barred teeth wide and eager. “If that is what you think.”
“Why the hell shouldn’t we just kill you right now?
Teru held his arms behind his back. “Oh, please! Don’t you want to hear my proposal?
The men glared, looking at each other before turning back
“Fine. Spit it out.”
“Give up your territory to me. Every last pathetic inch.” He met each of their confused gazes with his own glinting stare. “And I might let you live.”
One of the brothers coked his gun and shoved it into Teru’s face. Not a jerk, not a reaction. Just a smile.
“Cocky little gay boy. You’re done talking!”
The gun wouldn’t fire. One by one, all three of them fussed and pulled at their triggers to result of nothing.
“What the fuck??”
The middle brother had had enough. “Guess we do this the old fashioned way then.”
A knife was drawn. Teru kept his arms behind him as he shifted left, then right, dodging each stab and slice. In the end the man in a miss had shoved the blade into the wall where it remained stuck.
“Oh, tut tut.” Teru leaned right up to his face. “Looks like you need more practice.”
Another brother came in, swinging fists. Teru backed up before bringing on hand up, opened to a palm. The man was forced back in an instant, crashing with a yell into other wall, dazed. That only left the third.
“What- what are you?”
Teru didn’t shift his body, only arced his head at an tilted angle over his shoulder. “Someone who likes to have fun.”
The final brother pulled a spare hand gun and wasted no time. It fired straight, the sound echoing in the small office. But the shot didn’t land. Nor did it miss; instead the bullet hung in the air between them. Now shaking and unable to speak, the man was backing up as he watched the bullet turn and face him instead. Teru’s hand rose in front of his manic grin, fingers utilizing only a fraction of his abilities.
The rest of the gun was unloaded. Each of the bullets hovered in an an natural state, vibrating with the same excitement as the one controlling them. Teru let them hang as the slow realization drew up on the doomed man’s face. With a click of his fingers each round was reflected back at the same speed that had left the barrel, ripping through bone and flesh.  A now battered and bleeding body twitched on the floor. He made sure to miss the heart and brain for a slower, more poetic death.
“No! You fucker!”
The knife user was swinging with fists now in a blind rage. They hit over and over but did nothing, not even push Teru back, as if the blows were beating against sand bags. He flipped his hair, laughing to himself.
“Looks like you forgot this.”
Aura focusing, Teru hovered the man into the air, helpless. The knife jerked out of the wall as if by its own will, hovering by Teru’s shoulder like a little pet ready to obey. Now kicking, the frantic man screamed as his own weapon danced back and forth, slicing with each pass. Blood splattered from arteries to pool under all the writhing and begging. Human sounds devolved into desperate gurgling until the lungs had no more capacity for air.
The last brother was shaking against the wall as he watched the body fall, wide eyes flicking in terror from his dead siblings then finally to Teru.
“I quite like these knives.” Teru was playing with the blade, a butterfly knife with the handle adorned in silver and gold. His fingers skillfully flipped the edge before spinning it over a knuckle then back to his grip. All the while he took slow, purposeful steps towards his next victim. ”Nice and long. Very versatile.” He was now standing at eye level, his gaze leaving the knife to focus on the cowering man. “But I always thought they were a bit too showy.”
The blade was brought up to tap against a nose and cheek, now desperately trying to hold still among the sweat and blood.
“P-please. DOn’t k-k-kill me? I- I-“
Teru interrupted, his voice the same casual, cheery tone as when they started. “You’re the youngest, aren’t you?” He traced a little circle along the man’s face, drawing blood. “Here’s some advice, leader to leader.”
Blue eyes widened. Teru glared ahead as his powers drove the man’s body from wall to ceiling to floor, back and forth, bones cracking and organs rupturing amid flying red that joined the other splatter marks. With every impact, his grin widened until he was laughing, head back and a hand on his chest to steady himself. The fucker was already dead yet he continued to abuse the corpse leaving it an unrecognizable husk in the end. He pocketed the knife.
“Don’t reject a good offer when first given it.” Teru turned, admiring his handy work. “It could be bad luck”
Shou had busied himself with picking up the papers. He rolled his eyes at the horrified screams, checking his jacket pocket for another cigarette. Lighting it, he put a foot up on the desk and waited, mumbling to himself.
“I better not have to clean this up.”
Whistling could be heard now. Shou was about to enter when the door knob shifted.
“Ah, Shou! Here you are. They each had their own handgun, customized too.” Teru piled the red stained weapons on the desk. “Isn’t that just cute?”
Shou tried to ignore his blood drenched, wild eyed boss and turned his attention to the guns.
“Ugh. Why do they always get the crappy shit?” He took one of the hand guns and inspected it. “Hmm. Probably could do something with these the personal pieces though. Nice.”
“You’re so welcome.”
Teru left a trail of red footprints, heading to the front of the room. With a smile he glanced over his shoulder. Shou couldn’t help but tense.
“Let’s go meet our new employees, shall we? I’m sure they’re lonely without their leaders. “
And with that he waltzed off. Shou exhaled hard through his nose. From the cracked office door he could see the twisted bodies laying limp and disfigured. He flicked his cigarette and the closest.
That’s what you get for insulting my hair.

Self-Destruction with Collateral Damage Chapter 1
Everything was dark.
Teru felt himself rising towards consciousness, like a diver coming up from deep underwater, but everything was still dark.
His hands flew to his face, where they met soft cloth and a metric ton of pain. Teru couldn't suppress the sound he made, but he couldn't hear it either. The ringing in his head was only drowned out by the beeping sound that seemed to be coming from all around him.
It took him a moment to register that someone else was talking. The patter sounded family, but he couldn't make out the actual words.
Larger hands covered his, lowering them, and Teru probably would have put up a barrier if he had any psychic energy left. He was completely depleted. Not even the usual yellow glow made it through his blindfold.
Teru was about to start biting when he smelled the familiar combination of sweat, nicotine, and MobDonald's.
"Reigen?" he choked out.
The patter finally resolved into words. "Yes! Yes, it's Reigen. You're safe. Okay, kid? You're safe now."
Teru took another tentative sniff.
"Why do you smell like flowers?"
Reigen snorted. "It's not me. The biggest bouquet is from your class, but there's also a lovely selection of weeds from Tome, a sunflower from Mob, and-"
Teru sat up straight. He didn't even notice the pain until Reigen relieved it by clicking something that raised the bed up to meet him.
"Is he okay?"
Reigen hesitated.
"Is he alive?" Teru could barely get the word out, and not just because his throat felt like dried squid.
"Jesus Christ! Of course he's alive! He's just a little… out of sorts. Turns out he got a love tap from a Subaru right before his big moment, which was at least partially responsible for the whole..." There was a pause while Reigen must have been gesturing. "I'll let him tell you the rest."
"He got hit by a car?" asked Teru. The beeping increased in tempo.
"He's fine," said Reigen. "The doctors released him after one night of observation, which is more than I can say for you, young man."
"Thank god," Teru couldn't help the words, which were almost more of a sigh.
"Stop being relieved. You're in trouble." Reigen sounded exhausted. Teru wondered vaguely if he should budge up and make room. "Confronting Mob on your own… What were you thinking? Sure, he wasn't exactly acting like himself, but you must have caught on after the first broken rib. You do know he's stronger than you, right? Of course all you kids want to be the very best like no one ever was, but Mob is seriously overpowered."
"I know," mumbled Teru, who had no idea what he was being lectured about but definitely knew that much.
Reigen didn't seem to hear him. "You've been to the the office. Mob told me you can even teleport now! So what exactly is your excuse?"
Teru started giggling, which turned out to be a very bad idea indeed. He clutched his stomach, but he couldn't stop. He felt giddy. Shigeo was going to be okay. Everything else was filler. Even Reigen's monologuing seemed funny for some reason.
It occurred to Teru that he was probably on the good stuff.
"I don't know," he finally got out, wiping away a tear that was only sort of from the laughter. "What am I in trouble for?"
"Why didn't you ask for help?" There was a shuffling of fabric, and Teru could easily imagine the finger being wagged in his face. He felt like he was on Ace Attorney.
Teru tried to stop giggling, if only for the sake of his image. "Ask for… help?"
"Yes!"
"I didn't think of it?"
It came out sounding more like a question, but it was technically true. All he had been thinking about was Shigeo.
Reigen heaved a sigh, sounding more exhausted than ever.
"The nurses can't get ahold of your parents."
Teru's brain, which had been processing things so slowly, suddenly caught up to speed.
The blindfold was a bandage. The bed was remote controlled. The beeping was Teru's own suddenly erratic heartbeat.
He was in a hospital.
It was probably Seasoning General, and they probably still had the Seasoning City Child Guidance Center on speed dial. The hospital staff would be busy dealing with the aftermath of Shigeo's explosion, but not as busy as they could be, thanks to Teru. It was only a matter of time.
"Yeah, they work a lot," he said, hoping his even tone would balance out the air raid siren coming from the heart monitor. "I'm sure they'll get the message soon. Thanks for hanging out in the meantime, but you can take off now. I'm sure you have a lot to deal with, and visiting hours are probably almost over anyway."
"Oh, crap, what am I doing?" There was another shuffling sound followed by a light thud, which might have been Reigen smacking himself in the head. Then he clicked something else. Almost immediately, Teru could make out the sound of approaching footsteps. The door opened and Teru tried not to tense up again.
"Hey Ifukube-san," said Reigen. "He woke up. Can you get the doctor to do a concussion check and go over the prognosis?"
"Yes, Reigen-san."
"I can't believe that wasn't your first question, kid." This seemed to be directed at Teru, as the footsteps had receded into the distance again. "You took a hell of a beating."
"How long have I got?" Teru managed to drawl.
"Don't joke like that with Mob," Reigen said, with rare seriousness. "I'll let Honda-sensei give you the gory details, but it wasn't pretty. Lots of contusions and lacerations. Some broken ribs. They got those wrapped up, which is about all they can do, so you'll be on bed rest for a while. The patches are just to keep light out while your eyes are healing. They applied some sort of topical directly to your eyeballs, which was super disgusting, but it's supposed to keep them from hurting too much or scarring."
That was going to complicate things. Teru would be able to sense his surroundings well enough with his powers once they returned, but he had always resented the lessons that he'd learned from Shimazaki.
"They were pretty worried about the head injury at first," said Reigen. "There was some swelling, and they couldn't tell how bad it would be until it went down or you woke up. Maybe both. Either way, Honda-sensei is going to want a game of Twenty Questions, and that'll put you to sleep if the painkillers don't."
Teru nodded. He would have to find a way to stay awake.
"I'll be back in the morning, and Mob- Oh, yeah. He wanted me to ask if he can visit you tomorrow." Reigen hesitated again, only noticeable because it was so unusual for him. "It's okay if you don't want to see him."
"I want to see him."
“Alright.” Reigen patted the top of Teru’s bandages. "Just don’t be surprised if he starts crying.”
