You weren't close to any of your classmates. Both on and off the island you had been distant, an observer for the most part. 

It was like this on the island as well. You'd speak when spoken to, but you never went out of your way to make contact with others. Even with Nanao, it was cruel- you knew this- but you still kept your distance to avoid the others bullying. 

His death shocked you as much as it scared you. It was clear there was a murderer afoot, and you had almost no idea how to deal with it. You were smart, sure, but your talent was nowhere near the level of some of the others.

Nevertheless you wanted to put a stop to the killer, and Kyouya gave you the perfect opportunity to do that. You had seen him take charge during the investigation. It had impressed you, his bravery. Surprising even yourself you had approached him first, asking what you could do to help. He’d been suspicious of you at first, for good reason obviously. Eventually you had both grown to trust each other. There were countless nights you two spent together going over evidence. Countless nights that had turned into personal conversations. 

He’d told you about his sister one night, late into the Saturday night. You didn't know what to say, you were fairly close with your family back home. You couldn't fathom having one of your family members going missing. “I’m so sorry. I hope you find her.” 

It was surprisingly easy to get close to him. He wasn't trying to be guarded, he was just odd. Soon you both started to hang out without the guise of the investigation. However, those moments were few and far between. He had started thinking about his feelings, not sure if they were just platonic or something more. His thoughts would often veer in the romantic direction but the both of you had more important things to worry about, so he kept his feelings hidden.

He had hugged you for the first time that night, when he walked you back to your dorm room. “Goodnight. See you tomorrow.” And then he was gone.

She had shown you mercy. You were too close to coming across evidence that could ruin her mission completely. She couldn't kill Kyouya, that she knew, but she could go after you.

Your death was quick and painless. She had pricked you with one of her poisoned needles while you slept.

He found you the next morning. You didn't show up to class and he got suspicious, this was completely unlike you. Your body was already cold when he found you. His very own crush, the girl he was in love with, just lying there, dead.

He was in a state of shock, completely silent and wide eyed. It was naïve to think that you wouldn't be a target but he held that belief anyway. He knew she did it, he knew Nana was guilty. He just needed some way to prove it.

One thing I've observed about a lot of character polls on Tumblr is that the characters listed aren't really connected by genre or demographic of audience for the media they're from or anything, but more by seemingly nothing other than the likely fact that whoever made the poll happened to be someone who knows and likes both of these characters.

Oftentimes, unless the poll was specifically oriented around a certain theme or topic (like "best yuri protagonists" for instance), odds are, the person who made the poll is one of a relatively small group of people that makes up the overlap between these two fandoms. So, that doesn't leave "a bunch of people who vote on which of the two characters they like more," but rather four groups

Group A (smallest group): people who are familiar with both media sources and know both characters

Group B: People who know one of the characters but have never heard of or know very little about the other character

Group C: Same as group B, but other character

Group D (biggest group): People who do not know either character and thus do not vote (unless they fat fingered their phone touchscreen)

Group A will be the only ones actually voting for the character they like more. Group B and C, however, will not vote for the character they like more, but rather for the character they know. They don't know who the other character is, and they're not gonna do their homework for a tumblr poll, so why would they do anything else?

So, the end result of these polls is oftentimes not a measure of which character is more liked, but rather, which character's fandom is bigger.
