The Veil
If we could see ahead a little way, And know what is in store for us tomorrow, Just peep behind the curtains of today, And get a glimpse of future joy or sorrow, Would we be able to forestall the bad, And in its stead have only the pure and good? Or would that knowledge only make us sad, Now I wonder, as I ponder, if it would? Perhaps 'tis better that we cannot see Beyond the veil, which hides tomorrow's light, And living thus, in doubt, perhaps we'll be Much happier, with the things which are in sight. by E. F. Hayward

Naama Steinbock and Idan Friedman, of Reddish Studio, have created a playful  sculpture display called “Venus of Jaffa”. The goddesses are made from earthenware-colored balloons, inflated within a copper wire frame, creating a natural curve within the form.  Balloons, with their limited life span, give the plump bodies of the original figurines a modern and transitory quality. “While the archeological Venus statuettes have survived tens of thousands of years,” Steinbock and Friedman note, “the new addition to their dynasty is only ephemeral and has the lifespan of a party decoration.”
I just love the everlasting adoration of the Venus figurine!

25.8-IN. SNOW TIES UP CITY screamed the Daily News on December 27, 1947 (as if New Yorkers didn't know). The paper went on to say, "The worst snowstorm in New York City's history struck yesterday—a white fury that brought the nation's biggest city to a virtual standstill, snarling subways, stalling thousands of cars, slowing up harbor traffic, delaying commuter trains, and bringing death."
The second picture, taken on December 27 in Times Square, gives a good idea of how deep the drifts were.

#Traveling Photographer Captures #NaturalBeauty of #People Met on #Streets of #India
Photography affords us the opportunity to #travel without ever leaving our home. #Adventurous souls like #MagdalenaBagrianow use their innate sense of #curiosity to reveal new corners of the world to viewers. Originally from Poland and now based in the UK, she #traveled to India and shot gorgeous #portrait photos of the people that live there.
Bagrianow spent months initially exploring the country and meeting the residents in their #naturalenvironment. The backdrop of her images show busystreets and roaming #animals, but it's clear that her emphasis is on the #face—particularly the sincerity in their eyes. As viewers, it offers us an immediate bond with Bagrianow’s subjects, and this idea is a driving force behind her work. “It is by looking into the person’s eyes that we get the feeling of their character, their emotions,” Bagrianow says, “it allows us to connect with them and get a glimpse of who they really are

At first glance this may look just like a robe but look a little closer and you'll find that this enormous suit of armor is actually thousands of polished military dog tags all put together. Titled Some/One, the art piece, created by contemporary Korean artist Do-Ho Suh, asks the viewer to both understand and appreciate how a solider has his own identity yet is part of a larger troop or military body.
The ghost-like suit of armour also has a reflective mirror body which asks the viewer to think about what this piece means to them.“I wanted the viewer to have an experience with these little dog tags, these thousands of dog tags. It symbolizes each individual's identity…these many dog tags create this one, larger-than-life figure. It's ambiguous whether you're a part of it or not. Whether you are the owner of this robe when you see your own image over there. So that's why I had the mirror inside.” – Do-Ho Suh

Jean-Michel Basquiat   (US, 1960 - 1988)
Tumblr media
Untitled (World Famous Vol. 1. Thesis), 1983. - mymodernmet 2022
“He was incredibly determined and focused on being a famous artist—that’s what he wanted to do.” - Lisane
The artist’s sisters guide us through their family album [Lisane]:
“Everything was source material for him, he [might] walk across the room and see a paperclip and maybe that would inspire him, inspire something.”
His extraordinary ability to see the artistic potential in an idea or object speaks to Basquiat’s creativity and keen intellect. Some critics frustrated themselves trying to draw connections between the elements of his work, unable to fully decipher his distinct process and methods. When Basquiat painted, he was known to keep piles of open books around him while music played in the background. He read all manner of texts and was deeply curious. The books scattered around his studio could range in topic from poetry to art history.
The music that soundtracked his painting was also varied, ranging from classical music to his favorite genre, bebop. And as if that wasn’t stimulation enough, he would sometimes have the television on as well. This confluent mixture of media was a source of inspiration that would permeate his thoughts as he worked, and elements would sometimes find their way onto the canvas as words or images...”

There ALWAYS were Great Women Painters :
Artemisia Gentileschi, Judith Slaying Holofernes, 1614-1620 Wikimedia Commons Public Domain
@art.by.women_women.in.arts
During this time, 17-year-old Gentileschi was rap€d by a her father's coworker, a painter Agostino Tassi, prompting her father to press charges.
While Tassi was exiled for his behavior—which also included separate charges like theft and intent to murder—his sentencing was never carried out.
www.palianshow.wordpress.com/2022/04/18/artemisia-gentileschi/ - see more artworks here (link in bio)
Gentileschi, however, sought her own form of revenge. In 1610, she painted Judith Slaying Holofernes, a piece portraying an Old Testament story in which a widow and her maid overpower—and eventually behead—a lustful, threatening man. Given the timing of the painting's completion, many believe that Gentileschi channeled her own se#uaI assault (and consequent feelings toward Tassi, represented by a bIeeding Holofernes) when crafting the composition. via mymodernmet

Artist Research
Eric Mesple | sculpture elective
Tumblr media
One of Mesplé’s latest pieces, titled Killing Time, features sleek, masterfully crafted metalwork integrated with sensors that react to human presence. As the viewer approaches, their attendance sets in motion an eerie series of events. A deep black ferrofluid—a liquid that’s strongly magnetized when around a magnetic field—produces breath-like motions into the mouth of a polished skull. The surreal kinetic sculpture is mesmerizing in how it both consumes the special liquid and the geometric design that's created as the ferrofluid travels from the glass vessel to the head.---mymodernmet
As part of my research on water/fluidity/flow/changes that occur when water is tampered with, I take inspiration from Eric Mesple whom creates movement from touch with materials that we may not consider so fluid such as metal. But like water, metal changes form and recreates itself over and over.
Tumblr media
The artist known simply as Mesplé creates compelling moving sculptures that combine elements of art, science, technology, and human interactivity. Employing time-honored foundry construction techniques like welding and blacksmithing, he elevates these everyday approaches by using them to produce objects and experiences that we've never seen nor had before.

-N- UPRISING 8K from Thomas Blanchard on Vimeo.
"-N- Uprising" is an experimental video that evokes the cycles of nature. The video highlights several species of insects and flowers on colored backgrounds. For 7 months, I observed insects and mainly the butterfly cycle where we see the caterpillar turn into chrysalis and then the butterfly out of the chrysalis. The Insect videos were filmed in 8K with camera RED Helium 8K.
If you already know my work on paintings, by watching this video, you will understand that I try to work on another theme that is close to my heart while keeping a similarity to my work before. The Colors.
