just looked at the mariinsky staff webpage and i'm amazed at how old some of the people there are! they have a coach who graduated from the class of agrippina vaganova herself in 1948 which would make her roughly 93 years old?? her page says she coached ludmila kovaleva who is now an elderly woman herself. that's crazy. I can't comprehend having so much passion for one thing to work to the age of 93 and beyond.

I can only imagine the reverence they have for a coach of her experience and wisdom. She is likely one of the last living links to Vaganova. I believe that Tsikaridze has created an ongoing oral history of interviews with these legendary dancers and coaches, getting their stories recorded before they die.

A while ago, I came across this video of Kekisheva, whom I believe you are referring, as she coaches Batoeva as in the DQ PDD. I so wish it were subtitled! But I loved watching it regardless.

honestly? since she came from splatoon it was mostly just the look and vibe of the sanitized octolings but i wanted to crank the unhinged personality aspect up to 11 (since i intended them to be a villain) and throw in some like.. radiation/biohazard aesthetic and y2k (ish) raver gear since she was also inspired by some noisy dubstep remixes i was listening to at the time. heres some splatoon pictures of it + it's fullbody human design

(bottom left pic drawn by my friend) now that they're human and don't really have connections to splatoon anymore they're more inspired by like.. sci-fi stories about superhuman engineering and nuclear disaster fallout and the like :o) shes still a menacing little dj and still ~dubiously~ a villain but she can be niceys if i make her

hey, for CN, do you have like any hc for when xiao, nadezdha and the foxes realize that for all intents and purposes, childe and morax actually became their sort-of adoptive fathers?

i just think it'd be funny if, say, one day xiao slips up and calls childe ''dad'' or ''father'' 🤣

oh god-

i don't think it would come about by xiao slipping up. xiao has no concept of what he should feel towards parents because he's never had one. so if someone were to do it, it'd have to be either nadezhda or the foxes. i can't see nadezhda slipping up either, so my money would be on teucer.

since they all hang out with the children of the assembly, it could very well come around due to the other kids always talking about their parents and the stuff they do with them. and when asked, nadezhda would be like 'yeah my parents are dead' but xiao would have no fucking clue what to say because that all sounds like stuff he does with childe and morax. and like- even if nadezhda pulls out the dead parents card, her first thought would've likely been childe and morax also.

teucer would just straight up be like "oh yeah master childe and lord morax!" and tonia and anton would be like ?????????????????????? and like the five of them would stand in a circle in shock like..... he's right..............

i could also see, after that realization, that at some point nadezhda like- just straight up saying "but you're functionally our dads!" in like the middle of a conversation and childe and morax would be like :O while guizhong laughs her ass off.

after that of course they'd probably all have a very emotional conversation but i'm not sure how exactly it'd go down. probably with xiao and tonia crying. and teucer just peacing out and falling asleep halfway through.

I did the Benchmark and had fun making Kell and his mom (FINALLY!!!) and I love her so much. Hrothgals, my beloved.

First off, please admire my boy. He's my precious bean, i adore him <3 I kinda wish I could have done the Benchmark as Pictomancer for the hell of it, though.

Meet Nadezdha Sorrell, Kell's awesomely purple mom. I also love her. She would totally kick ass as a Viper and I might let that be a class she actually knows xD (OH COULD YOU IMAGINE IF KELL ACTUALLY GOT HIS JOBSTONE FROM HIS MOM???) I've been playing with the idea of her and Kell's dad originally being from Tural and I think that's probably going to be canon now.

I tried out the Anabaseios gear for her and those swords are shiny~

Let's talk about Vivus. Little village in Middle Praenost, right on the way to Sila's castle. It contains a chest with Nadezhda - one of Sila's necklaces - guarded by a bunch of her errant knights. It also contains a number of skeletons sporting said knights' spears.

Upon killing the knights and obtaining the necklace, Cuff remarks on how it might have belonged to Sila, or that perhaps "they" were planning on giving it to her. I assume "they" means the citizens because the knights really don't seem the gift-giving types.

Anyway, this is one of those environmental set-pieces that makes me think, especially when combined with another point of interest close-by.

Middle Praenost Hollow is a cave just a bit northeast of Vivus, and it, too, features a bunch of errant knights. These knights, however, aren't guarding a necklace. Rather, they are guarding the bodies of a number of executed villagers, children included.

Now, there's no clear, canonical confirmation of exactly what happened in these two locations, but I'll tell y'all the story I like to imagine.

I like to imagine that the people of Vivus tried to negotiate with Sila; specifically, they tried to win her over with a gift of a beautiful, power-enhancing necklace. They hoped that said gift would persuade her to let them go free. Some villagers the offering in Vivus. The others took the children and tried to start on the journey north, to Cipal.

Sila - no surprise - refused to negotiate, and those still in the village were killed. The knights then proceeded to stand guard over the necklace.

Those who had tried to make their escape were hunted down, corralled in the cave, and summarily executed. Adults and children both.

Twenty-odd years layer, Frey stumbles upon the aftermath and gets a spiffy necklace out of it while being appropriately disturbed by what was clearly a Tanta-sanctioned execution of innocents.

Two more interesting things to note:

1. The necklace Nadezdha is said to mean "hope." The word is actually similar to various Slavic words for hope - the Polish "nadzieja," for example - just with enough altering in spelling to make it unique.

This adds to the tragedy of the aforementioned imagined story because one can think of the villagers holding onto this necklace as their last hope, thinking that maybe it would save them from Sila. Only for it to not.

2. It's super interesting and very creepy to see the errant knights guarding things that don't need guarding, appearing to follow orders that were probably given decades ago. Unable to deviate from them, perhaps unable to understand their lack of significance at this point. We see that a lot with the Broken and with the Tantas' minions: this mindless adherence to old behaviors with no ability to move forward and out of this undead limbo Athia is in.

It's a haunting thing to see: manufactured soldiers standing guard over the skeletal remains of people they executed twenty years ago. Unable to do anything but follow a senseless, dead routine.

Anyway! I like using Forspoken's environment to piece together and embellish horrible tragedies. Game lends itself so well to that, and I'm making a point of looking for such little stories during this current playthrough.

Grinding my teeth because Witch Vasenka's War very much is not a Stalinist manga even though it has a number of characters that sincerely believe in the official ideology of the USSR, and this is very apparent all throughout the manga. Indeed, one of the basic aspects of its worldview is that Lieutenant Nadezdha Norstein is fundamentally too good for the NKVD and too morally upstanding to really live anywhere except the world of saints and witches and domovoi. But you can't say that in response to people, because it sounds like I'm saying the manga is anticommunist. Gah!

Nadezdha Gonchar announced her retirement from the Mariinsky. I wonder if this is the beginning wave of retirements. The Mariinsky has a lot of soloists whose careers are hitting 20+ years.

Also, does anyone know what’s going on with Kristina Shapran? She barely dances anymore.

Who do you think is going to carry the Mariinsky's name after Tereshkina retires? I honestly think is going to be Skorik and Shakirova. Mainly because Kondaurova, Vishneva, Novikova and Somova are almost the same age and will probably retire soon. Leaving the more younger ones to the next years. I know Skorik had a rough start but oh boy she is a prima!! She is definitely the prima they talk about when they say one is only born in every generation. (I'm gonna continue this in another ask lol)

Also, there is Nagahisa, Batoeva, Evseva, Shirinkina and Shapran, but I don't see them becoming the Mariinsky. There's Osmolkina and Matvienko that will probably retire as well. Among the second soloists I think the good ones will retire, but Bulanova, Iliushkina and maybe Lukina will shine through, but only time can tell. I really like Guseinova and Ionova, but among the coryphees and corps, I keep my hopes high for Chernyvskaya, Mazzi and Smirnova (even though Im not seeing much ofher lately).

It should be Skorik IMO, she has blossomed into a truly complete artist, yet there are roles that mgmt doesn't like to give her. Namely Aurora, DQ, and even sometimes Medora. She went 5 years without dancing Aurora until earlier last year (the performance was fab of course). But I mention that because as fabulous as she is, I don't think is going to be completely 'carrying' the MT because her rep that she is 'comfortably' dancing is smaller. She's not the direct replacement for Tereshkina, it's going to be a combination of people.

I'm a big fan of Batoeva, she's stable and charming in classical AND contemporary and I think she just might end up being in the right place at the right time if she keeps going. I like Shakirova too, but mgmt isn't quite as supportive of her as I think they should be. Where is her Paquita? Medora? Gamzatti? I think she has plenty of capabilities in dramatic roles as well, but mgmt seems unwilling to even give her other soubrette-type roles...I'm hoping she will eventually get promoted but I'm less sure.

Bulanova could end up taking over a lot of Kondaurova's rep, they both excel at the dramatics. And while Iliushkina isn't at Lopatkina's level, I think she could develop quite a name for herself in more lyrical roles. I'm still shaking from her Nikiya. I'm waiting for Nagahisa's full Aurora, I think that will be very telling. I'm also hoping for Khiteeva to have a somewhat Obraztsova-like career.

Smirnova I know was pretty ill, missed a lot of performances but is now back! I have high hopes for her too, someone with that kind of jump doesn't come around all the time. Also she was kicking butt in her very first season at Mik with 3 or 4 principal roles, the girl thrives under pressure.

While Evseva, Shirinkina and Shapran are all gifted artists, I don't see any of them moving up at this stage. I agree that Osmolkina and Mativenko will retire soon as well. The rest of the names you mentioned are too green to make any sort of judgement.

Of ourse, there's a name missing from your question, we all know who MT is pushing to lead the theatre right now.
