Japanese Steamed Egg (Chawanmushi) also comes in two flavours, one plain and the other with salmon roe topping. Other than the odd one out, the rest of us all opted for the roe version. Silky smooth steamed egg custard flavoured with broth and orange balls of umami bursting salmon roe is goodness in every mouthful. You also get slice of narutomaki (cured fish surimi), mushroom and chunks of chicken meat in the cup.

The highlight of this ala carte buffet is of course this plate of Sashimi Moriawase or raw fish slices. We have Salmon (Sake), Yellow Tail (Hamachi), Tuna (Maguro), White Tuna (Shiro Maguro), Swordfish (Mekajiki) and Octopus (Tako). I ordered extra portions of the swordfish since this is my favourite. The shiro maguro is actually not a tuna at all but rather the Escolar (Lepidocybium flavobrunneum), a type of snake mackerel. As you can see, all the fishes are sliced thickly which makes eating them such a pleasure. Dip a slice into the wasabi and soy sauce mixture before sending into the mouth. Oishii, the fish is so wonderful sweet and fresh!

A new Japanese eatery opened in Sun Plaza last year, so I brought mum along to Men Men Don Don (麺麺丼丼) for dinner. We each ordered a different ramen flavour and I topped up S$3 for three pieces of Gyoza and a cup of hot green tea. Mum got the Char Siew Ramen (S$8.90) which was priced reasonably though the portion on the small size. Just two slices of char siew, narutomaki, seaweed and half a hardboiled egg; not even the ramen egg kind.

My Spicy Miso Ramen (S$8.90) had everything in mum’s bowl plus corns. Taste wise, the ramen was not too bad and I especially like the springy yellow noodles. The broth isn’t as salty as those I had in Hokkaido which suited me. Just that I had to find something else to fill my half full tummy after dinner.

Do you and Naruto garden? I seen episodes in the past where Naruto has house plants I feel like that hobby could expand.

I had a huge bush of tomatoes and ended up getting eradicated by caterpillars :(

we do. naruto is more in charge of the actual planting process and i take care more of the maintenance. we still have a few "houseplants" like ukki and maki (bonsai tree), and some succulents the kazekage brings over during his visits. i gave naruto maki when we moved in together. im also in charge of designing the whole arrangement, but we harvest everything together. about half of it is aesthetic and the other half consists of edible things. we're thinking of starting a winery like a real retired gay couple.

i use my hawks to deal with a lot of the pests we get, maybe i could send you one.
