spoilers for the latest dungeon meshi ep but oh my GODDD i love marcille my pobrecita.. i think ryoko kui wrote sexism's effects on marcille really well, i think it's neat how she's a silly little guy and other people kind of underestimate her and it seems she is often down on herself about her failures or, "burdening" others in a way that feels very authentic to how it feels to be a woman and have that extra pressure of perfection to dispell suspicions of your inferiority. it's just very much the feeling i gather from it which makes marcille so relatable. and then to put another layer on it when it came out that she did black magic, she's literally A Bad Ass she is LITERALLY a Badass which makes her doubt of herself even more starkly inappropriate, and in this new episode despite the Fact that she is A Bad Ass when everyone's being a BIG MEANIE to her she's like a sad puppy when people don't let her help with revivals and like idk if i missed something but she doesn't even push back against them saying they're going to turn her in in like, a threatening way, she is just... scared. which hurt me i just wanted everyone stop being so MEAN TO HERRR my POBRECITAAAA. MY TINY LITTLE BABYY
i also laughed a lot and freaked out catching up on the two latest episodes today. DEVASTATING miscalculation on chilchuck's part to protect senshi when laois has No sense of Social cue. really happy to see laois and kabru meet, they're really funny together and i see why people like them so much as a ship now!! i am ECSTATIC that shuro is out of the game in terms of ehem. courting falin. bro COULDN'T HACK IT gEDDEM marcille. get that red dragon lady.. and omg it made me SOOOO MAD that they tried to blame marcille for that like how could that even b her fault!!! >:((( its obv the mad mage's doing. i dont get it they r just big meanies!!! stop shitting on my girl!!!
i like how kabru is like laios if he had more social awareness and was a litle Conniving... and omfg i thought it was so funny and sweet how shuro and laios just fucking beat each other up 😭 shuro said i hate autistic ppl fr. no but im glad he showed up for laios & co. in the end.. sometimes you just gotta talk ur feelings out over a fistfight lol
it was soo so fun seeing everyone interact .. all these fun characters... i cant wait to see what happens next!!! i love this show literally one of my fav animes EVER now definitely its so good its SOOOOOO GOOOOOOOD!! im terrified not knowing when its gonna end and how im gonna cope when the season ends 🗿 methinks i will have to read the manga instantly after or i will go insane from dungeon meshi withdrawal..

I get the impression that money was a bit tight on clouds on the horizon in general, what with the uneven time put into the lumity kiss vs the hexsquads fight outside blight manner w/ the infamous cha cha slide, plus background details going wonky (like baloony hunter), but my favourite semi-wonky frames are the closeups on Hunters face when he's talking with Luz about him being a grimwalker.
bc the proportions are just. So funny to me. Why is his nose so long. Why are his eyes in the middle of his face. When did his forehead get so big. What's happening. Did I die. Is this purgatory. I unironically love this bc it reminds me that this show was made by people who were trying their best. And sometimes their best looks the Bunter Vs hexsquad fight in thanks to them and other times it looks like this
[ID: a screenshot of a close-up on Hunters face from clouds on the horizon. The placement and proportions of his face are slightly off. End ID]
(although in searching for this image I was informed that a different studio than normal animated clouds on the horizon. Which is probably at least part of the reason why there's so many bungled frames. Also probably why the cha cha slide got animated the way it did. God I love animation)

god Merlin 1x04 is still peak. Merlin drinking poison instead of Arthur to save his life. Arthur disobeying his father to look for a cure no matter what. Merlin spending his whole suffering, dying, mumbling Arthur's name in his sleep begging for him to come back lest he falls into a trap. Arthur refusing to give up. Merlin casting magic to save Arthur and lead him away from the cure to save him instead. Arthur refusing to listen and endangering himself for the cure still. Arthur smuggling and hiding the cure, begging his father to give Merlin the cure even if Arthur had to be locked away for months as long as saving Merlin was possible. Arthur still smuggling the cure back to Merlin at all cost. episode 1x04 my beloved.

Ohohoho, now this is some excellent, excellent, excellent foreshadowing!
We've just had a really heartwarming scene of the group celebrating New Year's together. And sure, there was that one moment where Ami was very much out of her depth and looking uncomfortable, perhaps even accidentally left out of the party banter due to it. (See this post.) But Ami also got to have lots of fun and share her beloved pudding with her new friends, so it's all good, right?
But now this happens. Luna clearly states that only Usagi herself can fight this affliction (although Luna can also be dead wrong sometimes, so...) and yet Makoto and Rei can't stand to wait around. They charge off to do whatever they can and leave Usagi in Ami's care. Ami knows a medical thing or two, so this looks like a logical setup.
However, this is not some regular sickness. This is magical in nature and both Ami and Luna are severely out of their depth here. Ami's panicking fast! She instinctively looks around for support...but Rei and Makoto aren't there anymore. It makes sense for them to do what they did--if anyone hates feeling helpless I wager it's those two--but they've just unintentionally abandoned Ami.
And that's not all! Take a good look at the setup of the room in that last shot:
As you've doubtless noticed, everyone has a colour-coded chair they usually sit in. Usagi is pink, Ami is blue, Rei is purple/lavender, Makoto is green, and Minako is white. The table is also circular, meaning no one is ever left alone at the far sides.
Like Ami is now. And notice how Rei and Makoto's chairs are on the other side, separated from Ami's chair by a barrier: Usagi's chair.
Moreover, the framing of the balloons here also immediately struck me.
Green is most prominent in the foreground, with two balloons at the front, one in the middle and zero at the end. Makoto ran out first.
Rei left second, with the same spread but with one red balloon partially obscured by a green balloon. (This is also how the chairs are ordered, by the by.)
Pink is equally represented in all three layers, although the one at the front is also partially hidden by a green one.
There are only two blue balloons in this shot. One is at the front, but it's almost entirely hidden by the mass of green and red balloons. The other one lingers at the back, left behind with a pink one, the purple balloon of darkness encroaching on the pink while the blue reaches helplessly for its friend.
In conclusion: I hate it, thank you so much!
