Motel Living
this idea would not leave me alone, despite me having like three other fics barely done. it is very random. i dont even know what to say lol.
2554 words
enjoy!
Today was officially the one month anniversary of Aelin moving into a three-star motel. She did not think she'd be here for long, a couple of weeks at most, but here she was a month later, and on a Friday night no less. She should have been out with her friends, but she opted to stay inside.
She had to tell herself that she shouldn't complain. That there were people that were worse off than her. Living in a motel was fine.
But it still didn't change the fact that Aelin wished she wasn't living in a motel room. Especially one that was popular with long haul truckers whose snores sounded like chain saws and blenders on the highest level. That right now, down in the restaurant/pub that was only six doors down, an important football game was playing and the patrons inside were cheering wildly.
Aelin missed the house that she had been renting the last three years. Last year she had decided to start saving so that she could purchase the house itself, since it was still on the market since the day she moved in. It was hard, but Aelin was a determined woman and she set her sights on purchasing the house—she felt like she practically owned it anyway—up until the day she received a call from the real estate agency telling her that the house had been purchased and she had to move out.
Aelin disliked crying, but the waterworks started the minute she hung up. She really did love that house. Had created a small vegetable and herb garden to make it feel more homely. Made it hers in the three years she had occupied it.
There was a tiny silver-lining, however, since the new owners were coming from the other side of the continent, she had plenty of time to pack and move out.
But that silver-lining quickly disappeared once she started her search for a new home in-between packing and work. Every apartment, every house, every unit she looked out at was taken by the time she handed in her application. Every inspection starting to become fruitless when she knew that she wouldn't be the one to live in it.
Aelin hadn't realised that the market had become so cut-throat. She knew she was the perfect applicant because in all her years renting she never missed a single day, never received a complaint. Even when the landlord dragged his ass to fix something, Aelin kept her temper in its leash and did not throttle him the way she wanted too.
And as her luck ran out and Aelin had started to truly worry about where she was going to live because while she had multiple people in her life, she quickly realised that she couldn't ask any of them if she could move in for multiple reasons:
Aedion and Lysandra were recently married, and Aelin hadn't wanted to burst their newlywed bubble.
Chaol and Yrene were brand new parents, their baby girl born the day Aelin moved out, and she knew the last thing they wanted was someone else in the way.
Nehemia was in the same position as her, but her parents had invited her back home while Nehemia looked for somewhere else. Aelin's parents were dead, and her childhood home had been destroyed in a wildfire a five years ago, and Aelin had used the insurance money to pay off her debts. She cursed herself now for doing that, but Aelin hated being in debt and she did what she had too.
Fenrys lived in a one bedroom unit and had the worlds most uncomfortable couch, so he was out. And while Fenrys was one of her best friends, she didn't really talk with Connall, his twin. Nor did she often talk with Vaughn.
Dorian and Manon were travelling all over Erilea and Dorian's younger brother Hollin was house-sitting. Aelin couldn't stand Hollin for more than a few minutes at a time and she would rather live in the motel for a year than live in with him.
And then there was Rowan. He had been a close friend for years, until five months ago they decided that they had liked each other too much to keep being friends and officially started dating (at Lysandra and Aedion's wedding, of all places). If they had been together for longer, she would have asked him—but she didn't want to rush anything, because Aelin could so clearly see a future with him and she didn't want to hurt that future by moving in far too early in their relationship.
So that left Elide, her lifelong friend that was more like a sister. Elide was purely on the bottom of the list since she knew her friend cherished living alone after living in a shit-hole with her even shittier uncle—but Aelin knew Elide and if Aelin needed a place to stay, then Elide's door would be wide open. The two had gone to lunch and Aelin had been just moments away from telling Elide everything and asking for a world changing favour.
Until Elide had excitedly announced that Lorcan was going to move in.
And Aelin's plan had deflated. Again, Aelin knew that if Elide was aware of how desperate she was, Elide would invite Aelin to stay, but since Lorcan and Aelin didn't particularly get along, Aelin kept her mouth shut and congratulated her friend for the new milestone in their relationship.
So, all her options completely exhausted, Aelin looked for vacant motels, found that this was the best out of all the options and became a long-standing tenant.
Aelin had managed to keep everyone away from her new apartment by claiming that it wasn't ready for visitors. Most knew that Aelin was house-proud, a trait that she had inherited from her late mother, so they knew that when Aelin was ready, she would invite them.
It was getting hard, however, to keep Rowan away. Each date night and hang out ended up at his apartment and Rowan was becoming curious as to how her new place was looking.
Rowan wasn't judgemental, and he wouldn't look down at her for living in a motel room, but Aelin was the problem; she was too proud to show him her new place. Even when she was at her lunch with Elide, she had to beat down her pride at just the mere thought of asking Elide if she could move in.
Tonight, however, Aelin knew in her bones that Rowan would ask to come over. He had a completely shitty day at work—one that ended up in the hospital because for the first time in his career as a carpenter, Rowan had somehow gotten his hand in the way of his nail gun and shot right through the middle of his palm and was off work until it healed, which Rowan hated the most out of the whole ordeal, since Rowan was the type of person that always had to be doing something.
So when his face finally popped up on her phone screen, Aelin muffled a groan into her pillow (because there was no way in hell she was using the standard sheets the motel provided, she needed her bedding or she wouldn't get any sleep), took a deep breath and plastered a smile onto her face.
“How's the hand?” she asked by way of greeting.
“It'd be a lot better if there wasn't a hole in it,” was his groggy reply. “I just woke up from the longest nap and thought of you.”
“That's sweet of you to say,” Aelin said, “do you want me to come over? I could cook you my world famous grilled cheese.” Please say yes, she thought, please.
“As much as I love the sound of that, I just need to get out of my house,” Rowan said, “I know that you're house-proud and if you don't want me to see it, I understand, I'll even wear a blind fold if that'll make you happy, but I just...” he trailed off and Aelin could see his pained expression even though they were miles apart.
“Seeing all your work tools is making you miserable,” she supplied. Rowan grunted in confirmation. Taking a deep breath, Aelin said, “You can come over, I don't mind. I'd be happy to see you.” And she would be. She'd just have to kick her pride in the corner. “There's a pub right around the corner from mine and the cheeseburgers they have are really fucking good, and I mean that sincerely. Do you want me to get you one? Because I only have snacks and canned food at the moment.”
“A burger sounds good, with extra tomato, please.”
Aelin smiled. “Of course, I'll text you the address, and I'll see you soon.”
After ordering their dinner, Aelin tidied up (even though the space was immaculate) and waited, and waited. When a gentle knock sounded at her door, Aelin took the food from the restaurant worker and was just about to go back in when Rowan's truck pulled up.
Even ten car spots away, Aelin could see his puzzled expression from where she stood. Placing the food on the small, round dining table, Aelin waited by the door and gave Rowan her best smile when he stood in front of her.
His puzzled expression melted away momentarily when she kissed him hello, but it was back in full force when they pulled away.
“Fireheart,” was all he said, and it said everything that he didn't say.
“I know.”
“You're living in a motel room.” There was no judgement in his voice, like she knew there wouldn't be, but it was clear that he was confused about the whole thing. She should have just told him. She loved her late mother, but really hated the fact that she had passed her pride to Aelin. She hated the fact that, deep down, she was embarrassed, even if Aelin told herself that she had no reason to. The housing market was insane, there was no where else for her to go, and that she hated herself for not saving more money to buy her home of three years.
“I am,” Aelin said, “but it's not so bad. It's affordable and clean.” Aelin invited him inside and sat him down the small dining table.
From his spot, he took in the space. Saw the bar fridge that could barely hold a bags worth of cold food, her toaster oven and the dual butane stove she had to purchase because she didn't want to have to use the toaster oven all the time. The tiny closet that held a decent amount of clothes, but didn't make a dent in her considerable mountain of clothes that she had put away in the storage unit she was renting.
None of her candles were in sight and no books either. Aelin was taking full advantage of her library apps, but it wasn't the same. Aelin loved the feeling of a book in her hands, but there was no space and it would have been silly to bring in her bookcases.
“Where's all your stuff?”
“In a storage unit. I considered living in there, but it doesn't have an air-conditioner and this place does.”
Before Rowan could say anything, Aelin turned on the TV, put on whatever movie sounded dumb enough and ate her dinner.
Aelin could see the question burning in his eyes as she stuffed her mouth to avoid answering that very question.
Why didn't Aelin ask if she could stay with him?
Aelin wanted to tell him, she really did, but was afraid that if she showed how serious she was, Rowan might admit that he wasn't as serious as her.
But Aelin knew herself, knew that she was going to tell him at one point or another. She could tell Rowan anything and he wouldn't flinch. It was her own doubt stopping her.
“That really is the best burger I've ever had,” Rowan said when he was finished.
“It really is,” was all Aelin could think of to say. Gods, she felt so damned awkward. The question was still in Rowan's eyes, even as he laughed at the movie and its stupidity. So to avoid it for a bit longer, Aelin took the take-away boxes into the dumpster outback and immediately went for a shower afterwards.
When she came out, Rowan was lounging on her bed, his injured hand laying across his chest, the other arm fiddling with her comforter. Aelin dressed in a shirt that she may have borrowed without asking from Rowan and a pair of sleep shorts.
Borrowing underneath her comforter, Aelin rested her head on Rowan's chest and the awkwardness she felt deflated a bit as he pressed a kiss on her head.
Aelin told him how she ended up here. Including her embarrassment and annoyance at herself. Rowan listened attentively, as he always did. That was one of the biggest things she loved about him, that he listened. And Aelin was in love with him, she knew without a doubt. She was certain she fell in love with him when he danced with her at Aedion and Lysandra's wedding.
When the credits started to roll, Aelin took a deep breath and decided to plunge into uncharted territories. She kept her eyes glued onto the screen.
Aelin decided to bite the bullet. If it all went to hell, she would beat herself up later.
“I don't want to fuck things up with you.” Well, that wasn't how she wanted to start this conversation, but she supposed it was the best way to start off. “I wanted to ask you if I could move in, but our relationship is just so new, and I didn't want to ruin our future, because I can see a future with you, Rowan.” Moving so that she could look Rowan in the eye, Aelin took the deepest plunge imaginable and told him, “I love you, Rowan. I'm in love with you.”
The smile he gave her was the most beautiful she'd ever seen. “I love you, too, Aelin.” Reaching down to kiss her, all of Aelin's doubts melted away. When he pulled back, Rowan said softly, “If you wish to ask, I'll say yes. Because I see a future with you too. You're the one for me.”
“Rowan, can I move in with you?”
He kissed her again. “Yes, you can.”
Aelin's cheeks were started to become sore from all her smiling. Maybe it was a good thing after all that she ended up living here.
Hours later, after another bad movie and celebrating the new milestone in their relationship (which was mainly Aelin laughing as she rode Rowan because he kept forgetting about his injured hand), Aelin and Rowan got ready for bed, and as Aelin rested her head on his chest again, she said, “Just to let you know, I'm going to replace your mattress for mine, because yours is hard as stone.”
“That's exactly why I'm letting you move in, I'm in the market for a new mattress.”
Aelin playfully whacked his chest and muttered what a buzzard he was, but soon fell asleep with a smile on her face, ready for her future with Rowan.

Making Mat: Part One
Welcome to my new Elorcan AU!! Yes, this definitely stemmed from the fact that I’ve watched Cheer like a million times, but I tried to write it so it would make sense if you haven’t seen the show. I’m so excited to share this little mini-series with you - it’ll be three parts in total!
Summary: It’s an Elorcan meets Cheer AU, because why not? Elide Lochan: member of the champion Terrasen University cheer team. Lorcan Salvaterre: serving his country in the army and Elide’s loving boyfriend. Watch their love unfold as their friends try to get him home to see her.
Warnings: Just some language, I think!
.
It was a very big day - probably the biggest day of the entire season. Well, aside from Banjali.
Elide could practically feel the entire squad buzzing with energy as she walked into the gym. She was a member of the cheer team at Terrasen University, which just so happened to be the reigning champion collegiate cheer squad - and the most decorated. They’d won more than any other team, and just making the squad was a huge honor.
But today was the day they could be granted the greatest honor of all - being chosen for mat. Even though there were forty members, only twenty of them could actually compete at the Collegiate Championship Competition in Banjali, Eyllwe. They worked hard all season - basically competing amongst themselves - to prove themselves to be deserving of one of those coveted spots.
Tossing her bag onto the bench, she was just turning to go stretch with some of the others on the mat when she was lifted into a hug from behind and spun around. She squealed in surprise, her fingers gripping the muscular arms around her waist - arms she thought belonged to her boyfriend’s best friend in the entire world. A glance down proved her suspicions were right - a mountain range was inked across his left forearm in greyscale, a perfect match to the one on Lorcan’s arm.
“Vaughan,” she giggled, “put me down.” Expecting to find her feet on the ground, she shrieked when she was tossed into the air. Reaching down to brace her hands on his shoulders, he caught her just before she hit the ground, pulling her into a tight hug as he set her down. “You’re such a pain in my ass, Osten.”
“If that’s your polite way of saying that I’m your best friend,” Vaughan started, tickling her sides and chuckling when she giggled, “then I humbly accept.”
She huffed, but nodded anyway. “Mmm, I mean, I’m basically stuck with you because of Lorcan.” He rolled his eyes, so Elide leaned up to press her lips to his cheek in a quick kiss. “I’m just kidding, love. You know I’m glad of your friendship.”
“I’m glad of yours, too.” Wrapping an arm around her shoulders, Vaughan began steering her in the direction of the mat. “Besides, as his best friend, it’s basically my duty to look after his girl while he’s gone.” Lorcan Salvaterre, Elide’s boyfriend and Vaughan’s best friend, was serving in the army, and he’d been deployed to Adarlan’s base in Melisande for almost nine months. She missed him terribly, but she was glad that she and Vaughan had become close. It was a way for the two of them to bear the weight of missing someone they both loved so much.
She giggled, coming to the stop at the edge of the mat. “And he’d kill you if anything happened to me while he was gone, right?”
“Erm, yeah, more or less.” Vaughan scratched the back of his neck and offered her a small smile. “But that’s not the only reason I’m your friend - I hope you know that.”
Taking his hand as she turned to look at the two people taking turns tumbling across the open space in front of them, she murmured, “of course I know that - but thank you.”
He squeezed her hand in a silent thank you, and then they both immediately started laughing when they realized that the two people tumbling like beasts across the floor were Fenrys and Asterin. They were the two best tumblers on the team, and it was fairly common to see them trying to out-tumble one another.
The fact that they had been dating for almost three years only seemed to make them more competitive. As Elide folded her legs and sank down onto the mat, Asterin flipped her golden ponytail over her shoulder and arched her brow at her boyfriend.
Taking the silent dare, Fenrys winked at his girlfriend and took off across the surface, his body twisting and turning through the air so quickly that Elide almost struggled to keep up. He stuck the landing with a massive smile on his face and stepped back, gesturing for Asterin to take her turn.
She did so, with all of her usual swagger in place, even going so far to blow Fenrys a kiss before she sprang into action. If his pass had been difficult to follow, then hers could only be defined as practically impossible. Elide had always considered herself to be a decent tumbler, but Asterin made her look like she had no clue what she was doing.
Slowly easing herself into a split and feeling her muscles starting to stretch, Elide watched as Asterin rounded on her boyfriend, giggling happily when he bowed his head and held his arms out to her. She launched herself at him, squealing when he caught her and spun her around.
Though she was happy for her friends, watching them be so happy together sent a pang of sadness right through her heart. Though she knew Lorcan was doing something he loved, something he was proud to do, Elide couldn’t help but wish that he was home with her.
Her mind was consumed with thoughts of him as she continued stretching, though her mood improved significantly when she remembered that he, according to his last email, was supposed to be calling her later that night. She was just thinking that she’d have to ask her coach if she could break the no phones rule when the woman stepped up to the edge of the mat and called them all to attention.
“Alright, everyone,” Evalin Ashryver Galathynius started, “I know you all know what today is - it’s Mat day. So, I won’t hold you in suspense. I have the list right here, so I’ll go through who’s actually on first, and then we’ll talk about who’s doing what.” Everyone shuffled off to the sides, leaving the center clear for those who had been chosen. “And remember,” she added, “just because you weren’t chosen doesn’t mean you’re not a valuable member of this team, okay?”
She waited for everyone to nod their agreement before reaching for the notebook on the chair behind her. Elide felt her nerves settle into the pit of her stomach, and she reached for the dark blue scrunchie flecked with little white stars on her wrist. Lorcan had given it to her - well, technically, he’d given it back, since he’d stolen it from the pack before she’d even had time to open it - before he’d left for his last deployment, and she only took it off when she absolutely had to. It was a source of comfort for her, a way for her to keep him close whenever he was gone, and it helped take the edge off her nerves.
Evalin cleared her throat. “Okay, then: boys first. The eleven of you chosen are Sam, Ilias, Enda, Ress, Galan, Luca, Dorian, Nox, Aedion, Vaughan, and Fenrys.”
Elide could see each of the boys let out a sigh of relief when they were chosen, and she realized that the moment of truth was all but upon her.
“And now, the girls.” Her coach looked up at all of them for just a moment, offering them a small smile before she read the names. “Kaya, Briar, Edda, Vesta, Lysandra, Nehemia, Aelin, Asterin, and Elide.”
Feeling the smile pulling at her lips, Elide joined her teammates in the center of the mat, hugging Fenrys quickly before Vaughan was tucking her into his side with a happy little grin on his face.
Evalin offered all of them a very happy smile as everyone else shuffled over to the back half of the gym to keep stretching. “So, I have a feeling you all know why you’ve been selected, but I’ll just go over it quickly. The stunt groups will be as follows: Elide, Fenrys, and Vaughan; Aelin, Aedion, and Nox; Vesta, Ilias, and Enda; Lysandra, Ress, and Galan; and Nehemia, Dorian, and Sam. Baskets will be all but Lysandra’s stunt group, with Lys joining Elide’s, Galan joining Aelin’s, Ress joining Nehemia’s, and Edda joining Vesta’s. Elide, Aelin, and Vesta will be the top girls in the pyramid, with Lys, Nehemia, Edda, and Briar as the other fliers. Luca, Asterin, and Kaya will be our main tumblers, though Fenrys will also be doing quite a lot as well.”
She’d been listening with rapt attention as her coach rattled off their spots, and she felt some of her nerves settle back in. Stunts, baskets, and pyramid, plus the necessary tumbling, was a lot to ask of one person, but Elide knew that she could handle it. She’d spent years training for this exact moment, and she was never one to back down from a challenge.
“Now that everything is all sorted,” Evalin began, “let’s get started on the pyramid. Take five more minutes to stretch and then we’re going to run this.”
Realizing that she’d better talk to her coach before practice really got underway, Elide jogged up behind her and tapped her on the shoulder.
Turning, the older woman offered her a smile. “Elide. What can I do for you?”
“Well,” Elide said, tossing her ponytail over her shoulder. “I sort of have a favor to ask you.”
She arched an eyebrow questioningly, and Elide idly realized that was where her daughter must have picked up on the habit - Aelin had perfected the single-eyebrow-arch before they were teenagers. “What’s up, dear?”
“Okay, so I know you have the no phones rule, but Lorcan told me he’d be able to call tonight, and I was really hoping you’d be willing to bend it a little, just for tonight.” The words rushed out of her mouth in a single breath, and Evalin blinked at her, a slight smile on her face. “I was just really hoping you could keep an eye on my phone so I don’t miss his call?”
“Elide,” Evalin finally said, interjecting before she could keep rambling. “Of course I’ll watch for him to call - I know how important this is, and I’d never want you to miss it.”
Elide grinned, a happy little hum slipping through her lips as she hugged the other woman. “Thanks, Aunt Evalin!” Though they weren’t related by blood, Evalin and Elide’s mother, Marion, were as close as sisters, and the two families spent as much time together as they did apart.
“Of course, love.” She returned the hug before nudging Elide in the direction of the rest of the team. “Now, get yourself over there, miss. I’ve got a winning routine to perfect, and you’ve got a pyramid to run through.”
“Yes, ma’am.” She handed her phone over and jogged back to the mat, taking her place between Ress and Galan for the pyramid. Both of them offered her small smiles. Though she usually stunted with Fenrys and Vaughan, her starting spot took her away from the two of them. Not that it mattered - she trusted every member of this team with her life.
“Alright, let’s do this!” Evalin yelled, clapping her hands twice and starting the music.
Waiting for her cue, Elide took a deep breath and braced her hands on the boys’ shoulders. She nodded once, held still for two counts, and then she was moving.
Being one of the top girls meant that she was constantly moving, constantly twisting and turning and flipping, being passed from one set of bases to the next to being braced on someone’s thigh or shoulders. She was rarely still, only hitting a pose for a matter of seconds before she was being tossed around again. Even though Vesta was the center top girl, the one who would be the focal point of the actual pyramid, Elide and Aelin were both given parts that were just as difficult.
She lost count of everything that was going on in the gym around her, only focusing on the pyramid and her role in it, making sure that she was doing what she needed to be doing when she was meant to be doing it.
It wasn’t until she’d been put safely back on the ground after their fifth - or was it the sixth? - run-through of the pyramid, Nehemia slinging an arm around her shoulders as they both tried to breathe, that she noticed Evalin was holding her phone in her hand. She gestured for whoever was FaceTiming her to wait for a moment before turning to face the team. “Okay, y’all, let’s take a break. Elide, someone’s on the phone for you.”
There was a loud chorus of “oooo” and “aww” echoing around her - everyone knew that she was waiting for him to call, but Elide hardly noticed. She was ducking around her teammates, all but sprinting for her coach. “Thank you, she managed to breathe before her phone was in her hands and her eyes met her boyfriend’s. “Lorcan!” she squealed, tears springing into her eyes.
“Hey beautiful,” he greeted, his normally stoic face splitting into the widest grin. “Are you crying, love?”
She sniffed, sinking to the ground and wiping the few tears that had slipped down her cheeks. “I just missed you, baby.”
He gave her a soft smile, and she noticed that there were unshed tears lining his eyes. “I miss you too, Elide.” They just stared at one another for a few moments, grateful for this time to catch up when they were apart, but eventually Lorcan broke the silence. “So, first things first - did you make mat?”
“I did! And I’ll be doing stunts, baskets, tumbling, and pyramid!”
She could see the pride filling his eyes. “I knew you would, El. I’m so proud of you, baby. Tell me everything.”
~*^*~
Vaughan watched Elide slowly sink to the ground, and the smile that spread across her face was as happy as he’d ever seen her. As he watched her keep talking, an idea was slowly forming in his head.
Grabbing Aedion’s wrist where he was leaning against the wall next to him, he dragged him over to where Fenrys, Asterin, and Aelin had flopped down on the floor. “Please tell me I’m not the only one who sees how happy Elide is right now?”
“Aww, I know,” Asterin sighed, the others nodding along with her. “She really loves him.”
“They both love each other so much,” Fenrys added.
Aedion heaved a sigh. “I wish he could be here to see her - he’d be beyond proud of how talented she is.”
Vaughan nodded, a small smirk spreading over his face. Aelin noticed, and she raised an eyebrow at him. “What are you thinking over there, Vaughan?”
“What if we found a way to bring Lorcan home to see her - and us - cheer?”
The others were all telling him that they thought it was a wonderful idea when Elide’s voice reached them “Fenrys, Vaughan!” she yelled, waving them over. “Get your asses over here - Lor wants to talk to you!”
Agreeing to table the discussion for the moment, the two of them jogged toward Elide, though Vaughan knew that the gears were still turning in Fenrys’s head, just like they were still turning in his.
Whatever it took, he would find a way to bring his best friend home to see his girl.

read to me (part five)
Tumblr media
“I’m telling you, it was perfect. Perfect, like I’ve never ever felt anything like what I’m feeling or felt last night.”
Lysandra clapped her hands excitedly, slightly grainy on the laptop screen where they were having a group FaceTime call. “Yay! I’m so happy for you, E.”
Nesryn appeared behind Borte, the two roommates looking nearly awake as she pressed a mug of kahve into her hands. “Let’s go, El! And, ahem, how were the after dinner activities?”
Aelin groaned at Borte’s question and covered her ears, “I’m not listening to that.” Manon appeared in the background, nodding her agreement.
“Yeah, I don’t need to hear about my ex’s new man, thank you very much.”
The door to her room opened and she looked up to see her roommate, Nehemia, pad through with two cups of tea and a bowl of cereal that she passed to Elide before settling down on the bed, stretching out like a cat. “I saw him coming out of the building when I was pulling up. Looked extremely happy, happier than I’ve ever seen him.”
Elide looked down as Nehemia rested her head in her lap, “Really?” A giddy smile pulled at her lips, her hands clutching the cereal bowl tightly.
“Mmhmm, pretty sure I even saw a smile.”
The girls gasped in mock shock, “A smile? From Lorcan Salvaterre?” Nesryn exclaimed, Borte rolling over to muffle her giggles in Nesryn’s shoulder. “Neith above, did you poison him?”
Lysandra howled, shaking her head, “Ellie’s a sex sorceress!” She nudged Manon, who looked inclined to agree as they all erupted into hysterical laughter as Elide halfheartedly glared, too happy to care about her friends’ teasing.
++++++ ++++++ ++++++
“Thank you, go on in,” the bouncer ushered them in and she smiled, grateful she hadn’t been carded once more.
Lorcan wasn’t in his usual spot, having had texted her earlier in the day and she knew he didn’t have work tonight but he had told her he would be with the boys.
As she hung up her jacket, she heard Fenrys’ open laughter and smiled, knowing Lorcan would be with him.
Sure enough, when she turned, her eyes fell on him sitting at the bar, grinning as his brother regaled one of his tales with increasing enthusiasm. He was wearing his glasses, circular and wire rimmed, the warm lights of the pub reflecting off his specs.
The bar was packed tonight and Elide wasn’t able to push through all the patrons to get to him. She slipped through every crack she could find, freezing when she glanced up and saw a beautiful woman approach him. Her heart sank when he turned to her and the redhead dropped her head to say something in his ear, her hands resting all too closely next to his on the top of the bar.
Her throat closed up and she was stuck in place while the girl toyed with the chain hanging around his neck. Before she could see what happened next, Manon slid in front of her, fire blazing in her golden eyes. “I’ll kill him.”
She shook her head, “No, just, I don’t know.” She looked down at her hands and the iron coloured nails, reading the quote carved into her wrist, My blood runs blue. “Get me to him.”
Her own anger had sparked in her blood as Manon nodded, the crowd parting for the woman who seemed like she would rip our throats with her claws. “You got this, Lochan. Fuck him up.”
She grinned ruefully, squaring her shoulders before she waltzed up to the boys, pushing past Rowan and Gavriel to grab Lorcan, pulling him to his feet as she smiled wickedly at the girl. “I just need to borrow him for a second.”
Without another word, she turned and walked into the far back, knowing he followed her into the alcove. Crossing her arms tightly over her chest, she turned, loathing the way tears pricked her eyes. “What am I to you?” She frowned, her brows snapping together over angry eyes that hid hurt.
“El, baby, wha-“
“Don’t call me that. Am I just a joke or something?” She blinked away her tears, telling herself she had spent too much time on her eyeliner to have some dumb boy ruin it. “I thought this,” she gestured between them, her voice cracking, “I thought we mattered to you.”
Lorcan’s eyes shattered as he cupped her face, stroking her cheekbones with his thumbs. “Elide, you are all that matters to me.”
“But the girl at the bar-“
“She means nothing, I was telling her to leave when you pulled me away.” Elide huffed a laugh and held his cable knit sweater, tugging him with her as she walked backwards until her spine hit the wall and he leaned over her.
“If you don’t kiss me now-“ She didn’t finish her sentence before Lorcan’s lips were pressing to hers, his hand tilted her chin up as he slid his tongue into her mouth.
His other hand ran down the back of her thigh to her knee, hitching her leg around his waist as he ground his hips into her. He trailed his lips over her jaw, biting the sensitive skin beneath her ear. “You are,” another nipping kiss pressed to the other side of her neck. “Everything.”
Elide slid her hands up his chest and around his neck, toying with the hair at his nape, her nails scratching his scalp. “Everything?”
“Absolutely everything.”

Facade: Pilot (Rowaelin Actor Au)
Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Part 5 Part 6 Part 7 Part 8 Part 9 Part 10 Part 11 Part 12
“I’m so in love with you it hurts. And there’s not a moment that goes by that I don’t think of you. Not a second where I don’t imagine what it’d be like to be the one you hold at night. The one you kiss like that. The one you take on dates. The one you can’t imagine yourself ever giving up. And I know that I can never be her for you, but… I need you to know that you’re that for me. You’re the one I want and I just… I couldn’t go on this mission without telling you that, selfish as it is. I know you love her, and I know it’s hopeless for me, but… I just needed you to know.” She brushed her hand over his cheek, tears burning her eyes.
“We broke up,” he replied.
“What?” She asked, her eyes widening in surprise. He set his hand over hers, shaking his head.
“I couldn’t do it. I tried, damn it, I tried to move on from this, from you, but I couldn’t. I’ve been so in love with you for so long and I thought… I thought that I could find someone new and these feelings would go away. I thought I needed to move on because you’d never want someone like me. Someone so… broken.”
“I’d rather it be you, broken or not, than to ever be with someone else,” she said, brushing her hand back through his hair, “Besides… we’re all broken one way or another. But maybe… Maybe we can try to get better. Together.” He nodded, the movement small, but noticeable.
“Together,” he said agreed softly. His hands came to rest on her hips as he dipped down, capturing her lips with his. She pressed up into him as she brought her other hand up, wrapping it in his hair as well as she returned the kiss. Their lips moved in perfect synchronicity and their bodies moved together like two lost halves finally pieces back together. A mix of tenderness and passion and despera-
“Cut!” Aelin and Rowan quickly parted, both of them frowning. "That's a wrap for the day!"
"What did you have for lunch?" Rowan barked, a distasteful look on his face.
"Garlic bread," Aelin drawled, a smirk plastered over her lips.
"You two can't make it look so good," Lysandra said, fanning her eyes as she walked over, "It makes me emotional."
"You guys did so good!" Evangeline said from Lysandra's side, "I wish I could make myself fake cry that easily."
"All you need is one whiff of Aelin's breath and you'll be crying right away," Rowan said to the girl, patting her head as he walked off.
"Or the mortifying thought that you have to kiss a buzzard," Aelin retorted loud enough that she knew he'd hear. Lysandra put her hands over Evangeline's ears and sighed with a smile.
"Ah, sexual tension."
"Don't misuse the ear muffs to spout your bullshit," Aelin said, pulling Lysandra's hands off Evangeline's ears.
"Come on, you two totally have something," Lysandra said, elbowing her friend in the ribs. Aelin pouted, picking up Evangeline and holding her up in front of Lysandra.
"What kind of example are you setting for Evangeline? Encouraging the notion that women should love big, mean men."
"Rowan's not mean," Evangeline said, "He gave me the last slice of pizza the other day!"
"Traitor," Aelin said with a huff, setting her back down.
"Who's a traitor?" Aedion asked, strolling up in sweatpants.
"Evangeline is defending Rowan's bastardness," Aelin said. Aedion rolled his eyes at his cousin. He'd heard more than enough over the years about Rowan's bastardness. Aelin made sure of that. It was bad enough he was her neighbor, but he just had to be her co-star too. Her love interest, at that. The world was cursing her to be stuck with Rowan Whitethorn. She just hoped it didn't last forever.
"You say that as if you're any better," Aedion said.
"He started it," Aelin said with a frown. She still remembered that first day she met him. So maybe she was playing her music a bit loud, that didn't mean he couldn't just ask her to turn it down like a nice person. But not the buzzard. He came over glaring, not even throwing in a please. Aelin despised him.
"He started it, but I'm finishing it!" Evangeline said firmly, "That's what the teacher says whenever kids are fighting in class, and it means you have to stop fighting."
"Hear that? You have to stop fighting," Lysandra said to her friend, putting an emphasis on have. Aelin could see her holding back a smile.
"The only thing I have to do," Aelin said, emphasizing the same word, "Is find more garlic bread." She turned, stalking off towards the food table, the others following. They dodged between workers and cameras and actors as they made their way through to the food.
"That shot is going to make for a killer season finale," Lysandra said, "I'm so excited! The fans are going to freak. They've been rooting for you two since day one."
"They've been rooting for Daemion and Charlotte from day one," Aelin corrected, scanning over the foods absentmindedly.
"Clearly you haven't seen all the things I have," Lysandra said with a wink.
"I swear she lives on those fan pages," Aedion remarked, "We'll be in bed and I'll look at her and there it is. Another fan page. We're out to eat. Fan page. We're in the car. Fan page."
"I like interacting with the fans! That's not a crime," Lysandra said.
"The best part is when they don't know it's you," Fenrys chipped in, joining their little crew, "It's so easy to poke fun with them." He was dressed down far too much to be doing any scenes. He wasn't scheduled to be there anyway.
"Don't you have the day off?" Aelin asked.
"Yeah, but Rowan's car is in the shop, so I told him I'd take him to go get it after work," Fenrys replied. He looked at her half accusing, half teasing as he set his arm on her shoulder. "Can you believe that someone hit it and busted in the window?"
"Okay, I admitted that was an accident!" Aelin said, shoving his arm off of her.
"Only after they caught you on the security camera," Aedion pointed out.
"Well, it's partially his fault for parking like that," Aelin said, "He was more than a foot from the curb."
"Don't tell him that," Fenrys said, "He's already in a pissy mood because of it and the whole kiss thing, so we don't need you two getting thrown in jail for assaulting each other before the party tonight. You are going right?"
"When have I ever missed a party?" Aelin asked with a grin. They were throwing a party to celebrate the wrap up of filming. Season three of their show, finally done. And they'd been renewed for another two, at least, already. A story of a bunch of college kids with magic trying to save the world hooks almost everybody in. Most people assume it'll be a show just like any other, and while it has its stereotypical tropes, it works, all the same, to divert them as well. The party was going to be a welcome relief for Aelin. She had been on set a lot lately, since the end of the season focused so heavily on hers and Rowan's characters Charlotte and Daemion.
"She's telling the truth," Lysandra said, "I remember when we were in high school and she came down with a cold. She was there doing shots of cold medicine and seemed drunker than half the kids there." Aelin and Lysandra had grown up together, both under the overbearing, manipulative wings of their agent Arobynn Hamel. He'd turned the girl against each other young, pitting them against each other for the best movie parts. They'd been serious rivals until they'd both grown up and Aelin had left the business altogether for a while after she lost Sam. Now she was represented by Dorian's father. She wasn't sure he was any better, now that he was the one holding her leash, but she'd at least met Dorian and Chaol in the process, who were also in the show.
Lysandra had stayed with Arobynn a while longer and had turned from client to lover as soon as she was eighteen. Aelin hated her still until she caught them arguing at a party one night and realized that Lysandra wasn't trying to sleep her way to the top, she just didn't have a way out like Aelin did and her career was being held over her head. So when the opportunity for this show came, Aelin discreetly told Lysandra about it. Once she had a part, she had worked up the courage to get a good lawyer and leave Arobynn. It was a scandal for months, but the word on it was finally dying down and she was able to enjoy her newfound freedom. Her and Aelin ended up becoming fast friends on set, and Lysandra had even taken to Aelin's cousin, Aedion, who played her love interest on the show. They'd gotten together a year after filming had started and had been together happily ever since.
Aelin partly believes that to be why she wanted Aelin and Rowan together so badly. So they could have the shared experience of finding love through the show. But Aelin wasn't interested in love anymore. She'd tried after Sam. With Dorian. With Chaol. But they just didn't work, and Aelin was exhausted with love. Losing Sam had devastated her. She'd almost decided to never act again. But she kept going, she kept fighting, to live the dream Sam would never get to. It'd been hard, especially after Aelin lost Nehemia too, not even two years later. Aelin had just gotten the acceptance to the show a few days later. She'd almost declined, almost threw herself into a dark hole, never to come out, but then came Rowan.
Stupid Rowan.
He'd said she'd never last when he heard she got the part and the spite that filled her to prove him wrong pushed her through.
So now here she was. Still suffering, but proving him wrong every step of the way, every single day and making sure he knew it.
"Aelin and I are actually going to go shopping to get new dresses for the party after Aelin's done here," Lysandra told Fenrys.
"Can I come?" Evangeline asked, "Pretty please? I promise I'll be good."
"Well, I suppose if you're good..." Lysandra said dramatically, making the little girl laugh with glee.
"I promise!" She said, "I won't even complain once." Lysandra had taken in Evangeline when she was young after finding out the Arobynn was planning to do the same things with her as he'd done to Lysandra. Both her parents passed and Lysandra managed to get custody of the girl, now taking on the role as her guardian. Aelin knew Lysandra was tempted to get her out of the toxic atmosphere, but the girl loved acting so much that she couldn't bear to do it. Luckily enough, she was able to get Evangeline a role in the show as well and set up with a reputable agent who could really help them both.
She, Evangeline, and Aedion all lived just next door to Aelin, so Aelin often acted as an older sister type for the girl. Watching her when they were out, taking her to school or set when Lysandra or Aedion were busy. She loved her like family. And really, she was.
Unfortunately, her other neighbor was a bastard buzzard whose house she'd physically shove further from hers if she could.
"Well, you ladies enjoy," Fenrys said, "I'll see you all tonight." They bid him goodbye and Aelin watched for a moment as he headed towards Rowan's trailer.
"You grab your bread and go get changed," Lysandra said, "We're losing daylight!"
"I'm going," she retorted, grabbing the food and making her way to her own trailer.

Throne of Glass Thoughts
A discussion of the Throne of Glass series by Sarah. J Maas *Spoilers Ahead*This is not a review, just me talking about the series in general - warning: I ramble
Tumblr media
I stumbled across this series at the beginning of last year, and let me tell you, it was the beginning of something great. I can't remember how exactly I discovered it but I do know it was the best accident ever.
The first book had me hooked immediately, I was no better than an oblivious fish, and this book was the bait that had me dashing to read the rest. I haven't read the series super recently, but I've read it often enough that I can remember most of the important plot points.
The first thing I want to point out is Nehemia and Celaena's friendship. This was one of the first things that made me fall in love with Sarah. J Maas' writing, because while I do love a good romance, a well-written friendship is something I live for (not to be dramatic). The one thing that I love about this friendship is how real and down-to-earth it was - I mean, breakfast in bed with your bestie? It doesn't get much more real than that. I also appreciated the diversity Nehemia's character brought to the series, and was sad and a little angry that her character got killed off in the second book, though I do understand it was crucial to the plot, but still...
Heir of Fire was definitely one of my favourites, along with Kingdom of Ash and Queen of Shadows. I loved the introduction of Manon's character though it was a little random and seemed irrelevant at first, she's now one of my favourite characters along with Fenrys and Elide. Her character development was - in my humble opinion - amazing, the way she goes from not caring about anything to loving Abraxos and the Thirteen... Perfection. Her character really resonated with me as I also find it hard to open up and let people in, and find talking to my dog much easier, kinda like her and Abraxos.
Like I mentioned before, Elide was also a character that really stuck with me. I love the quiet strength she has, and how witty and clever she is. I just really wish her and Manon had been a couple, I mean Manon literally drank the blood of men, don't try to tell me she wasn't even the little bit lesbian or bi. Elide and Manon would have been the ultimate power couple, not gonna lie, I'm kinda mad it wasn't a thing. Besides, I don't ship Dorian and Manon at all, their relationship seemed incredibly forced to me.
And can we also talk about Aedion and Lysandra at the end of Empire of Storms?! Aedion was a character I cherished in Queen of Shadows and the start of EoS, but his behaviour towards Lysandra ruined that for me. She did not deserve to be treated like that, there is no excuse to say the things he did to her. Even his sweetness towards Evangeline couldn't fix that for me. Fenrys was also an amazing character and he deserves the world, and a mate, and someone who will love him to the end of time!!!!! Seriously though, I just wanted him to be happy from the moment he was introduced, and his pain in Kingdom of Ash nearly killed me (okay, now I'm being a little dramatic).
So, I did read Tower of Dawn, and have no regrets. To be completely honest, I didn't have high expectations for the book at all, but was pleasantly surprised. I loved Nesryn's development as a character and it definitely helped with Chaol's character redemption (which I thought was much-needed), as well as the introduction of some spicy new characters. I would completely recommend you don't miss this book because while KoA still makes sense, it's a lot clearer with Tower of Dawn under your belt.
Oh yeah, onto Kingdom of Ash. This book *claps hands aggressively* was the end of me! (speak of being dramatic, get it together Elle) But really, the entire novel was an emotional roller coaster, from Rowan and his little crew searching for Aelin, to Manon rallying the Crochan forces, and Aedin and Lysandra battling the Valg for Terrasen, not to mention the fact that Maeve is a Valg Queen. And the final battle, where a whole lot of sh*t went down... R.I.P the Thirteen and Gavriel. The ending was a little cheesy in my opinion - what with the flowers blooming and so forth, but a spectacular finale to the series overall.
I'd love to hear your thoughts so fell free to leave a comment or start a discussion! ~ Elle

Tog fake dating for the au thing! Btw I love your blog!
IT’S FINALLY DONE. You didn’t say a specific ship so I hope you’re okay with Rowaelin. And tysm darling, I love your blog too! I hope you like this
"Okay," says Aelin, nails (which are freshly manicured, of course) thrumming against the side of her her laptop. "How about this? 'Ms. Galathynius regrets to inform the class of '07 that she cannot make it to this year's class reunion, as she has better shit to do.'"
"No, that sucks," Aedion, her cousin, shakes his head from where he's sitting on the couch. His girlfriend Lysandra, Aelin's ex nemesis turned best friend, lounges on the other side, her feet in Aedion's lap, and she makes a sound of agreement at his claim. "That makes it obvious you're hiding something."
Aelin glares at him. "I'm not hiding anything." She shuts the laptop on 'anything' as if to prove her point and swirls in her chair, knees up to her chest. "High school is a closed chapter of my life that I'd rather not open." That part is true. At a young age, her parents had been murdered, and she and Aedion had been separated in the foster system. Aedion was lucky enough to stay close to home, but Aelin had been shipped to Rifthold, where her creepy foster dad Arobynn had let her roam free. And roaming free for teenagers sometimes equals multiple overdoses, getting arrested, and starting riots at block parties.
But that's not necessarily why she doesn't want to go. Both Lys and Aedion know she's been looking forward to this for years, to show how she's gone from druggie to successful lawyer who, at 28, is already partnered with a law firm in New York City. And she still is damn proud. But also... single. "I don't want to go alone, okay?"
"Jesus, Ace," groans Aedion. "You're in your twenties and can afford a flat-a nice one- in the Big fucking Apple. So what if you don't have a boyfriend right now?"
Lysandra winces. "Um... I know this isn't helpful, but all of Rifthold High will probably care." Aelin nods and throws her cousin an 'I told you so' look.
"Definitely not helpful, Lys." He sighs. "It won't help that we're going to be there, too?" Lysandra was also Rifthold High alumni. She and Aelin-who'd gone by Celaena back then- had hated each other until after graduation, actually, when Lysandra had needed 'professional opinion' on which lawyer to go to help get her now adoptive sister, Evangeline, out of an abusive home. Aelin had seen the girl's scars and gone spitting, pointing Lysandra in the direction to the right lawyer and giving them a place to stay. Six years later, Lys was still her roommate, though Aelin wasn't sure how long that would last. Not after she'd caught Aedion ring shopping.
"No, it won't," she tells them. "I... this is super petty, but both Chaol and Dorian are in relationships." Dorian had been a fling senior year for a few months. They'd agreed to stay just friends that summer, as he was staying in Rifthold and she was going to get her life together, and they'd done quite a job at that, actually. It was Chaol she was worried about. They'd bumped back into each other when she was 24 and he'd just turned 25, a police officer at NYPD. Of course they just had to hit it off. Really well. They stayed together for two years, migrating Dorian back into her life as well, when he proposed. She said yes, but everything fell to hell not soon after that. Though they'd made up and stayed tentative friends, he'd moved on much more quickly, is already engaged again to one Nesryn Faliq, who Aelin desperately wants to hate but can't.
Aedion mutters something that sounds like, 'Yeah, that's definitely petty,' but Lysandra shoots into a sitting position. "Oh Gods, I didn't even think about that. Okay, let's think. Fenrys?"
"Dating Asterin Blackbeak," Aelin tells her.
"Ren?"
"Gay, and since I want to set him up with Nox, I can't pretend he's straight."
"Uh... borrow Lorcan from Elide?"
She laughs at that, hard, and so does Aedion. Elide, her adoptive sister, definitely would let her, but even though she and Lorcan have a tentative truce going, Aelin has no doubt that he'd tell everyone that he's actually engaged to her little sister at the first chance he got.
"Yeah," Lysandra sighs. "I figured."
"Really, I'll just go to the 25th annual reunion," says Aelin, playing with a piece of blonde hair. "Even if I'll be so much less hot."
"You have to go!" Her best friend protests. "Nehemia and Nox will be there. And... Aelin, Gods, you have to go for Sam." Immediately, her heart lurches . Damn it, Lys has her. Sam had been her high school sweetheart sophomore and junior year, until he'd driven drunk, Aelin hopped up on coke in the passenger seat. They'd gone into an intersection without stopping, and, well... only one had come out.
Aelin curses. "I know." She also knows that if he had lived, they'd be going there together, possibly married, possibly already with a kid. The idea of bringing another guy suddenly puts a rotten taste in her mouth, but she knows she's too proud and vain to go alone, even with the thought of Sam looming overhead.
And then an idea hits her.
"Holy shit I'll be right back," she tells them before she's out of her chair and sprinting to the door and across the hallway. She bangs impatiently, because honestly, it's only 7:00 and if he's asleep he's a pansy. He isn't- the door opens, revealing his ridiculously hot and scowling face, and the dyed silver hair that should look dumb but doesn't at all.
"Oh," he sighs. "It's you."
Usually, she'd respond with a rebuttal, but there's already a big chance he'll say no and sassing him won't help in any way. She takes in a deep breath and says, "Whitethorn, I need a favor." -
Aelin is already regretting this.
Not Rowan himself, surprisingly. He'd shown up at her flat in a tux that goes surprisingly well with his face tattoos, contrasting them to just the right amount, and been a perfect gentleman. Aedion's still a little mopey that there's another alpha male in his presence, but he's coming around, and Lysandra had already known him, so it's no surprise she approves of Aelin's date choice. No, Rowan has been nothing but courteous and surprisingly funny, and they aren't even to the reunion yet, so she can't exactly regret him.
What she regrets is what she'd agreed to give him in exchange for him accompanying her to the reunion and behaving.
'I'll owe you' she'd told him like an idiot. They've just gone from hating each other to disliking each other and also wanting to fuck each other's brains out, and so when she saw the way his eyes lit up mischievously and he'd immediately agreed to doing this, she'd known she was fucked.
Oh well. As long as he doesn't make her favor writing to her entire graduating class, 'Hey, you know that really hot guy I took with me to our reunion? Not my boyfriend! I lied, lmao!' she'll be fine.
"I didn't say this before," he murmurs in her ear as they begin the walk up to registration for the reunion. "But you look stunning."
She's not sure if she's blushing or not as she says, "I know. You clean up well too, Buzzard." Had his lips just twitched into a half smile?
The registration doesn't take long, only signing her name to show she was here, as well as clicking an x for 'one guest,' and as they wait for Lysandra to do the same, Aelin checks her reflection in a nearby glass display case. She'd chosen to wear a dress she's had for a while but never been able to wear- it's black and long sleeved, hugging to her body, and on the back of it is a gold dragon that winds up her body, which is evidently her favorite color. Of course she looks magnificent. She'll never look anything less.
Lys and Aedion join them-they're color coordinated, Gods, they're so cute it's nauseating- and then it's the four of them striding towards the old gym doors. Aelin loops her arm through Rowan's, half expecting him to raise an eyebrow at her, but of course he doesn't. Of course he knows they're pretending to date, because duh, it's implied.
She jumps when she feels his breath against her ear, followed by the low timbre of his voice. "Pretend I just said something funny."
Aelin laughs softly even as she grits back, "Or you could, you know, actually say something funny. If you're capable of that."
"Ouch," he chuckles softly. "Easy, Galathynius. Remember I'm doing you a favor." How could she forget? She glances at him, expecting there to be hidden warning in his eyes, but there's nothing but amusement. And it only makes her feel as though he's REALLY going to make her regret this later on, even more than she’s been assuming. "I've never seen you so nervous before. Or, well, I've never seen you nervous at all, actually."
She's sure it's obvious, but she still replies, "High school wasn't the best of experiences for me."
She, again, expects him to tease her, or subtly use that information against her, but instead he starts telling her this story from when he and Lorcan used to work together. She had been aware her sister's fiance had worked with her neighbor, but she hadn't known they had worked so closely. And she's so busy listening attentively that she doesn't notice the few people in the hall that stop, doesn't hear them murmuring. 'Wow, is that Celaena? Twenty bucks says she relapsed.' 'Who is that with her? He's a hunk.' She hears none of it, because of Rowan.
They enter the gym, which is filled with tacky lighting, including strobe lights, and a bar that Aelin will not be partaking in, despite everyone else's beliefs. They're just moving to the sober people punch when there's a shout. "Elentiya!" Aelin's immediately turning, letting go of Rowan's arm, because there's Nehemia, looking radiant in gold. She looks older, more mature, but as soon as she smiles Aelin's pretty sure she's never been happier to see someone in her entire life, except perhaps when she'd found Aedion again after graduating.
They embrace, laughter bubbling over. Nehemia will always have a soft place in her heart, will always be her original anchor. Without her, Aelin would probably still be Celaena, and she'd probably be six feet under. Behind her is Nox, who she embraces as well before leading the both of them back to the group. "You've both met my cousin Aedion." Aedion nods, even embraces Nehemia. "This is Rowan Whitethorn. Rowan, these are Nox and Nehemia, two of the only people I actually liked during high school." And it's true. 'Celaena' had known everyone, but liked very few.
She's thinking 'okay, NOW he's definitely going to screw this up.'But again, stupid Whitethorn with his stupid perfect face and stupid manners and stupid intelligence that has even Nehemia impressed, proves her wrong. "I'm going to go get us some punch," he excuses himself after a few minutes, and maybe her heart skips a beat when he brushes a piece of hair back behind her ear, maybe it doesn't. "Oh my Gods, where did you find him?" Nox exclaims as soon as Rowan and Aedion have strode out of ear shot. "He's so yummy, Ce-Aelin."
"I suppose 'yummy' is one accurate way to describe him," teases Nehemia. "But really, Elentiya. Where did you meet him?"
"I don't see how that's any of your business," Aelin replies primly.
Both of her friends look to Lysandra, who immediately reports, "He's our neighbor."
Aelin glares. "Lys!" Her best friend merely grins like a cat in response.
"Where is it he's from?" Nox asks. "Because the accent is sexy and I've decided I want one of him."
Aelin smirks, and almost feels like she's... bragging when she says, "He's from Wendlyn, Scotland."
"Who's from Scotland?" She knows that voice.
"Dorian!" She's smiling as she turns and pulls him into a hug, which he gladly returns, before turning to his date. "Manon."
Manon dips her head. "Aelin." They've just recently gotten on first name terms, mainly because of the fact that they both love Elide to death and Manon's around enough to make herself tolerable.
"No, really, who's from Scotland?" Dorian asks again, and Nox looks so smug she's half convinced he's going to sing out, 'Aelin has a boyfriendddd!"
He doesn't get the chance, though. Chaol strolls up, Nesryn on his arm, and Gods, Aelin REALLY wishes she could hate her, simply because of the way she looks in that dress. But she can't, and in that moment, she doesn't even feel slightly resentful towards her ex, which she typically does. She smiles in a way that's not pained, and their hug, for once, is not tense. And Rowan walks back over.
The night goes smoother than she can imagine, and she should be worried about how well he's behaving like she was before, but most of the time she's too busy laughing. She introduces Rowan to her friends, and she can immediately tell Chaol is jealous- but not because of her. No, he's jealous because Dorian and Rowan are 'bros' in a solid five minutes. Cain is still a dick, but his remarks roll right off her back, and he only says them until Rowan saunters up with a 'Everything okay, Fireheart?' -which oh my Gods, she's pretty sure Fireheart is her new favorite nickname. And Kaltain... Kaltain is better, less of a bitch. Maybe a little empty (Aelin had heard that she'd done meth for a while), but trying. Aelin, of all people, knows what trying to move passed your mistakes looks like.
And she dances. 'Warning Sign' by Coldplay comes on, and Rowan literally sings in her ear-except instead of the actual lyrics, he's singing about what people are doing around them to the melody, and she has to put a hand over her mouth to keep from ugly snorting, her shoulders shaking with the effort. Still, even though she stays longer than she expected (she'd expected to stay for thirty minutes tops and they're bordering on two and a half hours now), she's ready to go long before Lysandra is. She turns to Rowan. "Want to get out of here?" He raises his eyebrows, and she rolls her eyes. "Not that, you buzzard. There's a pancake house down the street." She'd spent many hungover mornings there in her teens. "They have no real food here and I'm starving."
He doesn't even have to consider- doesn't shrug in disinterest like Chaol would have, either. "That sounds great." She leaves with plans for Nehemia and Nox to come visit soon (and more frequently), and to the sounds of whistling from her friends as she laces her fingers through Rowan's and they exit the gym. Once they've made it outside, Rowan glances at her sideways, their hands still laced together. "You made it sound like it was going to be awful there."
"Well, to be fair, I thought it would be," she shrugs. There's an urge to tell him the real reason why it would be awful- because of Sam, but she still barely knows this man. And 'hey, I'm partly responsible for the first love of my life's death' is not a light first date-fake, she reminds herself, fake date,- topic. Maybe someday, though. If he doesn't do a personality 180 and make more bonding like this impossible.
"Your friends are nice. Did you date the Chaol guy?"
Ever perceptive Rowan. "Yeah, I did. It, uh, didn't end well, but we've worked through it. Ah, here it is." They stop in front of the pancake house. "I'm eating french toast until I pass out." He chuckles-he's been doing that a lot tonight- and follows her inside.
They go straight to their seats, and ten years later, the booth she picks is still HER booth. It brings an ache to her heart, but she focuses on the hot guy sitting across from her in the present instead of heartbreaking memories, and they chatter as easily as they have all night. It's only when she's (finally) pouring syrup onto her french toast that she says, "I haven't thanked you for tonight."
He looks confused. "You have. At least five times."
"No, I don't mean the favor," she shakes her head. "I mean thank you for making it fun. And helping me relax a bit. Also, thanks for scaring the shit out of Cain. I hate that guy."
His lips curl up in a way that makes him look almost... bashful? "Thank you for inviting me." Okay, she's had enough- she can't wait any longer to know what he damn wants. He's been nothing but perfect, and NO ONE acts this way without a price. Not for her, anyways.
"Okay, spit it out," she sighs, spearing a piece of strawberry with her fork. "What's your price?"
He blinks. "What?"
"I told you I'd owe you a favor, and there's obviously something you want really badly, so what is it? I would really appreciate if it wasn't gross, but if it is I'll do it anyways. Because I'm not a wimp."
His face goes from shocked to amused to- ah, there it is- mischievous. "Okay, you caught me." She braces herself. "Go on a real date with me."
Wait.
"Wh-what?" She stammers.
His confidence sputters for a second before he repeats himself. "Go on a date with me. And no, it doesn't include this pancake house."
She's gaping. "Is this a joke?" His confidence sputters again, and he shakes his head. "I... I thought you hated me."
He looks actually affronted by the idea. "Maybe at first, but it hasn’t been that way for a long, long time. I've just..." Maybe it's the lighting, but she can swear his cheeks have gone a little red. "I've been too much of a coward to ask you."
"And that's what you've been planning to use your 'favor' on the entire time?" He blushes harder. Oh my Gods, this is the cutest thing she's ever seen, and she can't wait to tell Lysandra, but she forces herself not to blurt out a 'Yeah, when? Right now? I'm game for now.' Instead, she sighs dramatically. "Oh, I should have never given you that damned favor." But her voice drips with sarcasm and she's grinning, and when he does too her heart leaps in her chest. It feels familiar, slightly. It feels long waited. "Text me when, Buzzard. You've got yourself a date."
Has she mentioned how glad she is she went to her high school reunion?

Earl Grey and Cappuccinos: Part Three
The next part is finally here. It’s short, it’s sweet, it’s fluffy. Also, you’ll notice that this story is mostly just me indulging myself and @nalgenewhore - but it’s such an adorable story that I don’t think you guys will mind. Oh, and y’all can thank Isa for the adorable new couple you’re about to meet.
Summary: It’s a Coffee Shop AU meets Rival Tattoo Artists AU meets Elorcan - do I even need to say anything else?
Warnings: Language and fluff, my friends.
.
Elide had been going through her appointment book while she sat at her desk in the office, trying to decide which sketches she needed to get started on, when her phone lit up with a text from Lorcan. Glancing down, she saw that all he’d written was: send help, the guys are dicks.
She sent him a quick reply - aww, you poor thing - before grabbing her bag and making for the door. “Nehemia,” she called, rapping her knuckles on the counter to get the other girl’s attention. “I’m heading out - you’re in charge of any appointments anyone wants to make with me.”
Nehemia just offered her a wry grin. “And where could you possibly be off to? Going to see the boyfriend, perhaps?”
“I don’t want to hear it,” Elide quipped back, winking as she backed into the front door to push it open. “You didn’t shut up about Sorscha for at least a month after the two of you started dating.”
“Oh please,” she huffed, though her giggles followed Elide onto the sidewalk. “It was only two weeks!”
Chuckling to herself, Elide slipped her headphones into her ears as she made her way to Cadre Ink, only making one stop on her way. She listened to the Dead Kennedys the entire walk, and she found that she loved the music even more because it reminded her of Lorcan.
When she finally pulled open the door to Cadre Ink and pulled her headphones out of her ears, she couldn’t contain the laugh that bubbled out of her throat when she realized the exact same album was playing over the shop’s speakers.
Most likely hearing her laughter along with the jingling of the bell hanging over the door, Vaughan looked up from the front desk. “Hey, Elide,” he greeted, vaulting over the counter as she pulled the door shut behind her. “Something amusing about the ridiculous music your boyfriend picked out this morning?”
Still giggling, she replied, “no, not at all - I love his music.” When he just arched one eyebrow, she elaborated, “I was listening to the same album on the way over here.”
“Ridiculous. The both of you are completely ridiculous.” Vaughan just shook his head at her, though he did wrap an arm around her shoulders as she walked up to him, leaning down to press a kiss to the top of her head. He and Lorcan had grown up together, and Elide knew that her boyfriend was thrilled that the two of them got along so well.
Flicking the side of his head, she wiggled out of his embrace so she could glare up at him. Even though she was a head (and then some) shorter than literally all of the boys who worked at the shop, she still had the impressive ability of being able to glare down her nose at all of them. “You love us and you fucking know it.”
Vaughan huffed a laugh. “You, I’ll admit to. But not the fucker you call your boyfriend.”
“Trying to discourage her from dating the brooding motherfucker in the back, are you?” Fenrys wandered into the lobby just as Vaughan finished speaking, hauling himself up so he could sit on the counter. “What’s good, E?”
“Well, my tits, but we all knew that. And my taste in men, obviously.” When Fenrys just scoffed at her, she leaned her weight against his thigh, digging her elbow into the sensitive skin hard enough that he winced. “What do you have against my mans?”
“Fuck, woman, stop bruising me!” Fen pinched her arm until she backed off, Vaughan just laughing quietly at the two of them. “You mean aside from the fact that he’s a brooding motherfucker?”
“Yes, you asshole, aside from that.”
“He’s just a miserable prick, E. I don’t know how you put up with his whining.” Vaughan nodded along with his words, and Elide just shook her head at the two of them.
“He’s hot,” she quipped, walking toward the office at the back of the building. “And he really knows how to use his hands!” That last bit was shouted over her shoulder, and she heard both of them groan at what she was implying.
Waving at Gavriel where he was busy prepping for a client in his suite, Elide continued her walk into the back, rapping her knuckles on the open door into Connall’s piercing suite as she stopped to poke her head in. “Hey, Con.”
“Hey,” he greeted, offering her a gentle smile as he nodded at the drink in her hand. “Bringing a certain someone his tea?”
“Like any good girlfriend would,” she joked, lifting it once in his direction as she backed out of the room. “Better get it to him before it cools too much.”
Connall just chuckled. “We wouldn’t want his highness drinking cold tea.”
“It would be a tragedy,” she quipped, waving as she moved down the hallway. She walked into the office just as Rowan was standing from his chair, and he grinned at the sight of her. Lorcan was sitting with his back to the door, his hair tied up in a messy bun as he worked on a sketch, the pencil practically flying over the paper.
Rowan brushed by her, knocking his shoulder into hers in greeting even as he chuckled quietly at the tea in her hands. She just smiled and leaned into him quickly, happy that Lorcan’s friends had quickly become her friends, too.
Walking up behind her boyfriend, she carefully set his tea on the desk next to him before she wrapped her arms around his neck. “Hey there, handsome.”
Though he’d startled at her initial touch, he practically melted into her embrace when he heard her voice in his ear. She barely had time to press her lips to the side of his neck before he was turning his chair around to face her. “Hello, my love.”
She realized he was wearing his glasses as he worked, and she was quite taken by the way he looked with his hair up and his glasses on. Though she thought he looked hot no matter what he was wearing, this had to be one of her favorite looks. She’d just stepped back further to really take him in, but Lorcan’s hands on her thighs stopped her in her tracks.
“Damn, mamas,” he whistled, eyes lighting up as he looked her up and down. She was wearing an old black t-shirt of his that she’d stolen from him the last time he spent the night, and since he was over a foot taller than her, it hit her mid-thighs. She’d paired it with fishnets and her Doc Martens, her dark hair in two Dutch braids that fell over her shoulders. He slowly slid his hands up her thighs, under her - well, his - t-shirt, as he said, “if I let my hands keep wandering, will I find cotton or lace?”
Leaning down to brush her lips against his in the barest hint of kiss even as he hands kept moving, Elide just whispered, “denim, babes.” She smirked as his fingers hit the bottom of her admittedly very tiny shorts and he groaned, his head falling against the back of his chair.
“Such a little tease,” he replied, pulling her down into his lap. He lifted one hand to twist one of her braids around his finger, the other pulling her hips down into his. She groaned at the feeling of his hardening length rocking gently against her clothed pussy, and he smirked up at her. “But I guess that’s why I like you so much.”
She rocked her hips into his, laughing when he hissed out a breath. “I just like you for the pretty little noises you make.”
He laughed at that, a loud sort of laugh that echoed around the room. She’d come to realize that wasn’t a sound he made very often, and it sent a thrill of happiness through her every time she made him laugh. Cupping her face in both of his hands, Lorcan pulled her down so he could kiss her, a simple, sweet kiss that cooled the passion that had been burning between them moments ago but was still full of so much feeling.
Pulling back until he could look into her eyes, he offered her a happy little grin. “So what brings you here, my love?”
“Well, you told me to send help.” Leaning over his shoulder, she grabbed the tea he hadn’t seen in his excitement over seeing her. “So I thought an Earl Grey might be just the kind of help you needed.”
A truly beautiful smile spread over his face as he took the cup from her hands. “Elide,” he breathed, ghosting his fingers over her cheek. “This is perfect - thanks, mamas.”
“You got it, babes.” She leaned down to kiss his jaw. “I know how to keep my man happy.”
Lorcan pouted his lips at her for a kiss, which she obliged. “You most definitely do.” He leaned up to kiss her again, this one growing deeper as he carefully set his tea on the desk behind him. She wound her arms around his neck as his slipped back around her waist, and she found herself cupping the back of his head so she could angle his head and kiss him harder.
He’d just started rolling her hips over his lap when someone heaved a massive sigh from the doorway. “Will you two fiends get a room already, for the love of the gods!”
Lorcan had barely pulled his lips from hers before he was grabbing a stress ball from his desk and chucking it toward the door. Though all five guys had gathered in the doorway at Fenrys’s exclamation, it hit him right in the forehead, sending everyone else into hysterics.
Even as she laughed at the absolute bewilderment on Fen’s face, Elide couldn’t help the happiness growing in her heart. Lorcan’s friends had accepted her as one of them, and that meant everything to her. She knew how much this little family he’d created meant to him, and she was thrilled that she got to be a part of it.

Audio
this is one of my all time favourite songs and this one shot is based off it!! so give it a listen and enjoy lovelies (:
Elide cursed the traffic of downtown Orynth as she made her way to the club the Cadre was performing at.
It was their little tradition, once a month, the entire gang would go out and watch them play and afterwards, party until the early hours of the morning. The boys played all over town but they couldn’t always go watch them. The light finally turned green and she tore off, her hair flying behind her, unbound and without her helmet as she wove her motorcycle around the cars until finally she made it, the house music pouring out of the club indicating the boys had yet to take the stage and she breathed a sigh of relief as she parked her bike and smiled at Luca who let her pass the very long line up filled with young people who glared at her as she walked by them and into the club.
Immediately, she spotted a head of golden hair and made her way over to her friends, all dressed to the nines and dancing to the music that played through the speakers. She hugged Nehemia first, the beauty outfitted in high waisted jean shorts that showed off her slim figure and legs that went on for miles, on her feet were high heels with thin straps and a chunky heel, black with little cherries, and a yellow crop top that perfectly complimented her dark skin, the golden highlight on her high cheekbones nearly blinding Elide. “Hello, love! Excited?”
Elide nodded, smiling easily at her friend, her signature braids were half twisted into a bun, the other half hanging down to her waist, the golden rings woven in the braids glittering. Lysandra turned to her and squealed, tugging her by the belt loops of her faded black jeans to wrap her arms around her, her dark green dress of crushed velvet clinging to her curves, matching green Pumas on her feet. Her full lips curled into a warm smile were painted a deep red and she had a killer winged eyeliner that had her captivating angular eyes pop even more. “Ellie! I’ve missed you, how’s work going?”
“Lys babe, you have no idea how much I missed you! Work’s been good, hard but I wouldn’t change a thing. How’s Nesryn? How was the move?”
The green eyed woman blushed and tucked a strand of her dark hair behind her ear. “Good, really good. She’s been working a lot but she’s so happy and I’m so proud of her. I love living with her, it’s been the best thing.”
Elide grinned widely, so happy for the two of them. “That’s amazing, I’m so happy for you two.”
Aelin turned at her voice and pushed Lysandra out of the way to crush Elide to her. “Elide! You’re here, finally!”
Pulling back as much as her sister would let her, Elide chuckled, “Yeah, traffic was a bitch and I lost track of time at work and then I raced home to change. How are you, Ace? How’s Rowan?”
“He’s good, he’s very good. We’ve started talking about moving in together, so I’m really happy.”
“Anneith below, that’s amazing, you two are the sweetest. And you look fucking fantastic tonight, you all do!”
Aelin pulled away to look down at her clothes, a pale blue wrap dress with white daisies that ended right above her knees and flowed when she spun paired with strappy white heels, her long golden locks tumbling free. “Thank you, Mia picked me up this dress the other day, you don’t look too bad yourself there, Lochan!”
Elide looked down at her own clothes, faded black jeans, ripped and she wore fishnets beneath them, platform slip on Vans on her feet and a blood red cropped tank top, a little devil embroidered on the front. “Thank you, A. I just got this top and added the devil.”
“I am living for the whole outfit, E.”
Nehemia wound her arm around Elide’s waist, passing her a cocktail, blood red to match her top. “Drink up, gals! We are getting fucked up tonight!”
They all cheered and drank, starting to dance again until the house music quieted and the Cadre walked on and they screamed joyfully, yelling out to the boys as the took the stage. Fenrys took the microphone and winked down at Nehemia, his smile wide and easy, her rolling her eyes right back at him but a soft grin overtook her features. “We have a little surprise for all of you lovely people! Our drummer, asshole supreme, Lorcan, will be singing tonight, a little diddy he wrote for that special girl of his! Give it up y’all and enjoy!”
They cheered, raising their drinks as Lorcan stalked to the microphone, hitting Fenrys over the ear as they passed each other and he went to sit behind the drums. “As Fen said, I wrote this for the love of my life, the owner of my wicked heart and so I introduce to you guys, Sunflower Seeds.”
The entire club screamed cheerfully as the boys took up their various instruments, the cheers quieting down as Fenrys started on the drums, a soft beat, the bass coming in as Rowan and Connall started on the guitar and bass respectively, Gavriel on the keyboard. Lorcan searched the crowd, smiling once he saw her and started to sing.
It ruined her, his voice. She had always known that he could sing but had only ever caught little snippets if he was working on a song or if he was humming a tune as he did something else around their apartment.
Forty ounces and a pack of ranch sunflower seeds
Forty answers to the questions she's asking of me
Whatcha doin later on, I got nowhere to be
She immediately loved it, the memories of that night when all they could find had been a bottle of rum and a half empty bag of sunflower seeds, sitting on the fire escape of his old apartment, their feet hanging over the edge, the setting sun shining on them as they passed the rum between the two to them, drinking and talking until the sun didn’t shine anymore and it got cold. He had told her months later that that was the night he fell in love with her, completely and irrevocably.
Better get some food on
Cause when I'm hungry I'm a prick
I ate a snickers but a snick ain't doin shit
Once they had finished the seeds, they had retreated to his apartment, tearing through it to only find a Snickers bar, eventually leaving the building to seek food at the nearest convenience store, drunk out of their minds but half of it was the feeling of belonging, the feeling of being so entirely right for someone.
A hand full of cash and a brain full of stars
I'm more thrown than a food fight
I'm feelin too right, margarita by the poolside
Wow, this is all I ever wanted in life
Yeah, this is all I ever wanted tonight
She had told him that, that when she was around him she felt like her brain was full of stars, the entire galaxy shining behind her eyes. His voice continued on and she and her girls danced to it, their hips swinging to the beat, their arms raised as they let the music wash over them and fill their veins.
Near the ocean, near the water
Only good things, no piranha
All the good days of the views I love
Ain't never been so clear
Rowan and Connall joined in on the chorus, their voices fitting together perfectly to make the harmony come to life, so real she could almost touch it.
Yea, Forty ounces and a pack of ranch sunflower seeds
Forty answers to the questions she's asking of me
Whatcha doin later on, I got nowhere to be
The guys stopped until it was just Lorcan again, looking right at her as the melody tumbled from his lips.
Yea, hey
Summer love and summer stay
Summer ready to roll
Divin deeper through the days better rain or a storm
Whatcha doin later on, I got nowhere to go
No no no
No no no
His voice faded out, the cheers of the club loud, almost too loud in her ears but they faded too as he kept his eyes on her, bright and wide as the high of performing hit him and he nodded his head, reaching a hand out to her and she laughed, walking to him and grabbing it as he pulled her on the stage and wrapped his arm around her waist, her hands resting on his chest as he pulled her in to kiss her, his lips soft and warm against hers, his t-shirt clinging to the sweat on his bronze skin.
She heard the cheers of the girls and the little drumroll Fen played and she smiled against his lips, pulling back as he rested his forehead against hers, nudging her nose with his, his piercing cold against her nose, “Well? What’d you think, princess?”
She sighed and rolled her eyes, looking down at her nails and picking at them. “It was ok, I guess.”
Lorcan pinched the skin bare between the hem of her shirt and waist of her jeans and she laughed, “Ok, fine, I loved it, L. It was perfect, absolutely perfect.”
“Just like you, E.”
“Stop flirting with me and get back to your show, babe.”
He let his arm drop and she stepped back, her skin prickling at the loss of his arm around her.
“Yes ma’am,” he said as she hopped down, wincing as she landed weird on her ankle, stumbling a bit when Nehemia caught her, “You good, babe?”
Elide turned back to the stage, leaning onto her friend as Fenrys took the microphone again, Lorcan sitting back down behind the drums.
“I’m absolutely perfect, Mia. Absolutely perfect.”
