His Name Was Bélizaire
The names and histories of black people, especially enslaved people, are really hard to find in traditional documentation. The work made by Jeremy K. Simien when acquiring this painting and then have it restored and researched is incredible, since he got to not only have it attributed to the French artist Jacques Amans but finding the name of the formerly erased enslaved teenager in the painting: Bélizaire.
It was acquired by The Metropolitan Museum of Art, and this fall will be on view in Gallery 756 of the American Wing.

Queen Nefertari's Egypt was an amazing exhibit! Even though I was only able to see it on the last day it was wonderful. It was amazing to find out about Queen Nefertari's queenhood and the rediscovery of her tomb. I couldn't believe how many artifacts were collect in the piece; each telling a different story of life in ancient Egypt.

City Park, 1 Palm Drive, New Orleans (City Park), LA 70124
Tumblr media
City Park covers 1,300 acres and includes several museums (New Orleans Museum of Art, Children’s Museum), Botanical Garden, Sculpture Park, grassy lawns, mature oak trees, lakes, a train, swan boats for rent, amusement park, stadium, golf course, lakes, a fishing pier, coutuerie forest, islands, etc.
City Park’s first 100 acres became a public park in 1854. It’s a peaceful, beautiful place to stroll and spend time in nature. The homes in the area are also nice. The streetcar on Canal St. will take you to City Park. It’s known to be a great spot for birding.
