Publisher Koei Tecmo and developer Kou Shibusawa have released new information and screenshots for Nobunaga’s Ambition: Awakening, introducing Province War Tactics and castle support.
Get the details below.
The 16th entry in Kou Shibusawa’s historical simulation franchise, Nobunaga’s Ambition: Awakening mixes military might with political diplomacy in a quest to conquer Japan’s Warring States.
Province War Tactics
In Nobunaga’s Ambition: Awakening, players experience Japan’s chaotic Warring States Period by taking over the role of daimyo—a powerful Japanese feudal lord and land owner. As players progress and begin taking over larger pieces of the map, their tactics expand through the cooperation between daimyo and officer provinces. Here, a regent, who is the leader of a province, will propose Province War Tactics, with various scenarios playing out depending on the regent’s ability. Tactics include: joint offensives, with all troops marching towards the same target as the daimyo province; ranging attacks, where provinces attack multiple castles of the same enemy clan all at once; bolster, where troops in the rear send soldiers to the allied units in the frontline; and feint, where troops march near enemy borders, luring them out of their castles to create opportunities for an allied units’ attacks. With so many tactics to choose from, it’s key for players to choose their regents wisely in order to outmaneuver enemy forces!
Castle Support
In addition, players can now appoint roles to castles, helping add new lines of strategy within the castle network. A castle that is deemed a “defensive base” is crucial for defense, setting up a stage for sieges. Meanwhile, having an “assistance base” near the defensive base can help increase the number of protecting soldiers when attacked by a large force of enemies. On top of that, a “resupply base” will help support marches and long-term expeditions with additional supplies when troops are passing through on their way to the next fight.
Nobunaga’s Ambition: Awakening is due out for PlayStation 4, Switch, and PC via Steam on July 20 worldwide.

Honestly I am shocked the first DLC for Samurai Remnant was Ibuki Douji and not Oda Nobunaga, considering everything.

Does Vesselblood have VNs?
VNs definitely exist in both ADV and NVL form, although ADV is presently much more popular. adventure games as a whole, especially text adventures, enjoy a climate where most of the people who would be looking for games have fairly powerful computers (comlinks) on their person that can only sometimes display images, with most of the processing power being specialised into their on-board cryptography
terminal games in general are very popular and jump borders quite a bit, by virtue of being small and easy to smuggle between weavenets. one of the more popular text games among younger people, in both the Divine Solis and the KHU, is a historical (albeit heavily fictionalised) strategy game depicting the unification wars of the sects which would later become the Divine Solis Imperium. gameplay-wise, imagine Nobunaga's Ambition with more dialogue sections
of course, KHU users tend to favour heavily modded variants of it. one of the most popular has a BL skew to it, with simulated relationship and erotic mechanics. the general consensus on those erotic mechanics tends to be that they're "clunky, repetitive, and not especially sexy"
and yet, there's still a dedicated playerbase and about thirty different subvariants of it, so clearly the base gameplay changes are worth suffering through the worst of it
but to get back on topic, there are definitely plenty of proper VNs with art and all. most tend to work best on stationary terminals, especially ones that were built solely for entertainment rather than long-distance communications over the weavenet
and mind you, even then, VNs remain a niche among niches

#365DaysOfVGM Day 203:
Map Theme 2 (Pokémon + Nobunaga's Ambition/Pokémon Conquest [2011])
Not only is this one of the best “Eastern”-based compositions I’ve ever heard on the DS, but I can’t think of a better way to hype the player up for the very final battle. The constant melody is like your army marching towards the very last area, with full confidence.
Just when you think it’s going to end, it keeps going for about 26 more seconds with another emotional section that loops so well back into the beginning so well that it’s mind-blowing! Even if you don’t like this crossover, the music was well worth it, just listing 1 track from it isn’t enough for me to express that, let me tell ya!
(Length before loop: 1.5+ minutes)

Even though I don’t play Nobunaga’s Ambition, I do still pay attention to the releases sometimes, because I enjoy looking at the cutscenes and character videos and such.
I’m a little curious, because in this trailer there was a brief snippet of what looks like a scene depicting the Battle of Komaki-Nagakute, and a Nobukatsu that looks... unusual:
Tumblr media
I tried looking for in-game footage from the Japanese version, and so far I could not find a version of Nobukatsu that looks like the above image. This was how he looked, in the scenes I saw:
Tumblr media
That was how Nobukatsu has always looked like in the previous Nobunaga’s Ambition games, so that’s why it’s baffling when it seemed that he was made to look different that one particular blip of a scene in the trailer.
Of course, I could have just been mistaken, and that fellow isn’t Nobukatsu after all. However, the armour he was wearing was certainly the outfit identified as Nobukatsu’s, which was preserved in the Kaibara Museum of History and Folklore:
Tumblr media
Besides, there’s the yellow Oda mokkou-mon war banners behind him, and Hideyoshi and Ieyasu looming over the scene, so it really just screams “Komaki-Nagakute” to me. However, I wasn’t able to find that scene in the existing gameplay footage of Komaki Nagakute of this game online. How mysterious. Surely they didn’t order their artists to draw a relatively-complex scene such as that, and then just throw it out?
If anyone among you who sees this post actually play the game and can tell me if I just missed something, I would be very grateful for the info.

Publisher Koei Tecmo and developer Kou Shibusawa have announced Nobunaga’s Ambition: Awakening for PlayStation 4, Switch, and PC (Steam). It will launch digitally on July 20 worldwide.
In Japan, Nobunaga’s Ambition: Awakening is titled Nobunaga’s Ambition: Shinsei with Power-Up Kit and will be available both physically and digitally. It is an updated version of the title Gematsu has previously referred to as Nobunaga’s Ambition: Rebirth.
Here is an overview of the game, via Koei Tecmo:
Initially launched in 1983, the Nobunaga’s Ambition series has cumulatively shipped over 10 million units worldwide, fast becoming a favorite among virtual military strategists throughout the globe.
In Nobunaga’s Ambition: Awakening, players will experience the life of a daimyo, a powerful Japanese leader, in the troubled times of the Warring States Period, 16th century Japan. As the head of their own clan, players will have to make the best decisions in in key areas ranching from the economy, to diplomacy, and military might in hopes of eventually unifying the country. To do so, they will be supported by retainers, AI officers who think and act on their own judgement. Retainers will provide submissions to the players to help them plan their battle strategy.
Players will issue policies which will impact the entire clan, and appoint land holders who will develop domains by themselves. In addition, they will also be able to appoint conservators, who can change the overall trend of the clan, as well as council officials to guide them when issuing policies. Players can even have direct talks with their officers to strengthen their allegiance and stop them from absconding, and these direct talks have the potential to open up new strategies as players deepen bonds with their retainers.
One of the series’ most popular features, siege, also makes its comeback in Nobunaga’s Ambition: Awakening, but in an entirely new form. For the first time in the series, sieges will take place on a single map with different types of terrain and totally different castles or castle towns, allowing players to enjoy dynamic sieges and a new level of strategy. When attacking, players will need to decide where to break through and which route to take while, when defending, they will need to decide where to deploy defensive equipment and how to intercept the attacking force.
In addition, Nobunaga’s Ambition: Awakening will include various features that befit the 40th Anniversary of the series, including landmarks and achievements that will affect the strategy. Players will also enjoy a large variety of scenarios, events, policies, and more, as well as elements from the previous titles such as an editing function that will allows them to change officer status, background music and scenarios, or create new clans.
