i'm sorry you felt excluded from the writing poll :(( i had made it with other fanfic/fiction writers in mind but it Breached Containment! if you don't mind me asking, could you describe what writing is to you? i'm curious to see what a nonfiction writers perspective might be
Im not hurt or anything, I just dont often ppl talking about non fiction writers even though we literally write a huge bulk of written information. Writing for me is hard to explain, but also used to do documentary films and the feeling is much of the same. Its the journey to find the story the pieces and information want to tell, sorting through pieces of information that will never be "important enough" to make an edit or be in a final copy but i enjoy knowing all the parts of research that gets cut out or gets "kept to myself"
When i had to write scripts for films that were not abstract or documentaries, it was hard for me to enjoy a limited scope of writing but if i wanted to write or have a documentary about rice i could talk about; Rice farming in Asia, rice farming in africa, rice as a food, as a culture, rice wines of the world, rice trading, rice relating to X culture, rice, Rice of the Gullah people and the Trans Atlantic Slave Trade, Rice and its important to ATR's and on and on.
I seriously i find wading through the ocean of information so enjoyable, and when i get to put all of what ive collected in my own words, it feels like i get to build a resource rather than an imagined/emotional experience like fiction writing.

MQ-9s drones chased by Russian fighters eliminate the main leader of the Islamic State in Syria 🇸🇾
Fernando Valduga By Fernando Valduga 10/07/2023 - 08:45 in Military, War Zones
An ISIS leader in eastern Syria, Usamah al-Muhajir, was killed as a result of an attack led by an MQ-9 Reaper drone of the U.S. Central Command on July 7.
The recent news marks the culmination of three consecutive days of tense encounters, with the U.S. military strongly condemning the actions of Russian fighter pilots accused of "shatying" Reaper drones involved in anti-terrorist operations in Syria.
The U.S. Central Command revealed on July 9 that the trio of MQ-9 Reaper drones, which were subjected to "harassment" by Russian fighters over Syria, were the responsible drones themselves ?? for executing an air attack that resulted in the death of a high leader of the Islamic State group.
Tumblr media
Throughout Wednesday and Thursday, there were two separate incidents, generating criticism from the U.S. Air Force Center. In addition, on Friday, there were more interactions between Russian fighters and American drones, with the U.S. Air Force Center reporting 18 instances of non-professional Russian aircraft passes, forcing the MQ-9 to take evasive actions to avoid unsafe situations.
Tumblr media
"We make it clear that we remain committed to the defeat of ISIS throughout the region," said General Michael "Erik" Kurilla, commander of the U.S. Central Command. "ISIS remains a threat, not only to the region, but far beyond."
Tumblr media
"There is no evidence that civilians were killed in this attack and the coalition is evaluating the reports of an injured civilian," CENTCOM said.
Last month, the U.S. Air Forces published their monthly achievements in operations against ISIS. According to the report, there were 30 operations in partnership in Iraq and 7 operations in partnership in Syria. No operation in the U.S. alone took place in any of the countries. In Iraq, 12 ISIS agents were killed and 7 were arrested. In Syria, 1 ISIS agent was killed and 14 were arrested.

Viruses, Vol. 15, Pages 785: EV-A71 Mechanism of Entry: Receptors/Co-Receptors, Related Pathways and Inhibitors
Enterovirus A71, a non-enveloped single-stranded (+) #RNA virus, enters host cells through three stages: attachment, endocytosis and uncoating. In recent years, receptors/co-receptors anchored on the host cell membrane and involved in this process have been continuously identified. Among these, hSCARB-2 was the first receptor revealed to specifically bind to a definite site of the EV-A71 viral capsid and plays an indispensable role during viral entry. It actually acts as the main receptor due to its ability to recognize all EV-A71 strains. In addition, PSGL-1 is the second EV-A71 receptor discovered. Unlike hSCARB-2, PSGL-1 binding is strain-specific; only 20% of EV-A71 strains isolated to date are able to recognize and bind it. Some other receptors, such as sialylated glycan, Anx 2, HS, HSP90, vimentin, nucleolin and fibronectin, were discovered successively and considered as “co-receptors” because, without hSCARB-2 or PSGL-1, they are not able to mediate entry. For cypA, prohibitin and hWARS, whether they belong to the category of receptors or of co-receptors still needs further investigation. In fact, they have shown to exhibit an hSCARB-2-independent entry. All this information has gradually enriched our knowledge of EV-A71’s early stages of infection. In addition to the availability of receptors/co-receptors for EV-A71 on host cells, the complex interaction between the virus and host proteins and various intracellular signaling pathways that are intricately connected to each other is critical for a successful EV-A71 invasion and for escaping the attack of the immune system. However, a lot remains unknown about the EV-A71 entry process. Nevertheless, researchers have been continuously interested in developing EV-A71 entry inhibitors, as this study area offers a large number of targets. To date, important progress has been made toward the development of several inhibitors targeting: receptors/co-receptors, including their soluble forms and chemically designed compounds; virus capsids, such as capsid inhibitors designed on the VP1 capsid; compounds potentially interfering with related signaling pathways, such as MAPK-, IFN- and ATR-inhibitors; and other strategies, such as #siRNA and monoclonal antibodies targeting entry. The present review summarizes these latest studies, which are undoubtedly of great significance in developing a novel therapeutic approach against EV-A71. https://www.mdpi.com/1999-4915/15/3/785?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=tumblr

Intersex
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Intersex is a term for those born with physical sex characteristics that cannot be traditionally classified as male or female. Variations may appear in a person’s chromosomes, natural hormones, genitalia, gonads, secondary sex characteristics, or some combination of these things. Intersex variations are observed in many animals including humans. According to the ISNA it is estimated that as many as 1.7% of people are born with intersex traits, however this may be an incorrect estimate, as many individuals are unknowingly intersex due to the fact that external genitalia is the only sex characteristic noticed at birth (in most cases).
Intersex does not describe a specific body type but rather is an umbrella term for a broad range of variations/traits. Some intersex individuals may closely resemble one of the binary sexes, while others are closer to in between. An intersex person may have characteristics of both the male and female sexes, characteristics that fall somewhere in between male or female, or characteristics that don't fall into either.
Intersex individuals may have any gender identity, including male, female, and non-binary. They may identify as cisgender or transgender, or possibly another gender modality such as ipsogender or ultergender. Intersex people can have any assigned gender at birth, some may be AMAB or AFAB because their variation of intersex was not noticed at birth. Others may be corrosively assigned male/female at birth (CAMAB/CAFAB), meaning they had nonconsensual surgery preformed on them so their body more closely fits one of the binary sexes. In some rare cases they are AXAB. Each intersex person has a unique relationship to their gender, assigned gender at birth, the gender they were raised as, and how that relates to their experience being intersex. Intersex is included in the LGBT+ community, though not all intersex people consider themself to be LGBT+ on the basis on being intersex. This is largely a personal choice based on how one's status as intersex has (or hasn't) affected their experiences.
Someone who is not intersex is called dyadic or perisex. Intersex is not an identity, but is something one is born as. Some intersex traits are identified at birth, while others may not be discovered until puberty or later in life (although, the variation was always present, just unnoticed). One cannot "transition to intersex". Dyadic people who desire mixed sex traits may identify as altersex.

hi!!! I’m a puertorriqueño/nicaragüense enby looking into resources for learning bruja stuff, any good place you know to start?
I’ve gotten a couple of asks about this lately, and i’m so happy to know there are more latinos finding their way to the practice, tumblr’s brujeria tag often gives the impression that theres so little of us out there reclaiming our practices but getting asks like these brings me a lot of faith that thats not true :) first and foremost:
GETTING INTO BRUJERIA IS HARD.
it really is. baby brujos like us know that better than anyone- getting started, is often the hardest part of doing anything, and its no different with brujeria. it can feel so overwhelming and feeling lost is natural. from my experience, although i am still a newbie ive been able to find a lot of information out there, here are the best places to find info, sorted by priority:
FAMILY! a little self explanatory, but brujeria at its best is truly is an inherited, familial practice. If you can, before delving into internet resources, definitely connect w your family if you’re able to and ask them for guidance and about their experiences!
Your family is always the best resource over anything you can find online; theres so much misinformation out there or information not relevant to your region and if someone in your family already has established practices, always trust them first
Do some thinking back to all your cultural traditions, quirks, stories, and superstitions that you’ve  learned from your family across time and never thought too much about- and rediscover them under a new light
KEEP IN MIND: brujeria is NOT a singular , concrete practice w concrete rules in itself, the term blankets a lot of traditions across latam, the caribbean, mexico, but imo its always best to stick with brujeria related to your heritage and where your connection is.
this can be hard for people (like me!) with huge family taboos toward brujeria that make it unsafe to ask around about, and/or limitations in family connections (also like me unfortunately). I personally can really only get the tidbits and stories that my family accidentally slips out when I occasionally see them. i try to write them down as much as possible, but the info i can get is limited... and thats where the following comes in.
ONLINE COMMUNITIES. i.e, youtube, tumblr, instagram brujx communities. notice I haven’t said “internet” in general- the reason why i trust community based social media more than random individual websites you find on google is because, in the case of brujeria and honestly any non-european craft, you’re often gonna find a LOT of white people writing blogs, books, etc about their “spiritual experiences” in latam countries and wrongly/incorrectly taking ATR or indigenous traditions (like with smudging). I know, with social media, although those same white people are also on insta and tumblr, it’s a LOT easier to see the face behind the accounts and differentiate who to trust, who’s legit and has real experience to share, rather than a nameless, faceless, website that is actually some colonizer sharing colonized ideas who thinks theyre on a spiritual journey taking traditions all willy nilly. And the fact that in social media, its much easier to find a lot of good brujas at once bc they tend to follow each other lmao.what ive personally done to find information tho is essentially SCOUR tumblrs, insta accs, and watching tons of youtube videos for posts, accounts, videos, etc, and narrowing down good info from there through , namely:
CHECKING WHO YOUR SOURCE IS!!!
ASKING YOURSELF FROM WHAT EXPERIENCE THEYRE SPEAKING FROM
ALWAYS TAKING EVERYTHING WITH A GRAIN OF SALT
AND STICKING TO INFO FROM CULTURES OPEN AND RELEVANT TO ME.
again, brujería is different depending on where your family is from in latam, and if you have an established connection to indigenous and/or black roots, so it’s useful to use keywords relating to that when searching (like if ur black, you can look into ATRs(african traditional religions) which tend to mix deeply with brujeria, if ur indigenous, finding other people from your tribe is great, and if youre not pursuing your already learned traditions you can think about connecting to them more deeply(altho indigenous traditions are their own thing, sometimes they do mix with brujeria too), and apart from familial roots, if ur catholic/christian and/or want to explore it, saint work/catholic brujeria might be a good fit for you!)
tumblr: there are a couple of fantastic brujxs on this site with great blogs and resources who have sadly left the site, but i still go through their posts heavily for spells, rituals, scraps of info! etting started w brujería is hard bc there’s really not that much info out there right now, but i compile as many good brujeria posts i find on my acc.
@brujeria-n-bongs great for catholic brujeria, now at @Upliftherbs on instagram
@brujeria-lost @barberwitch @reina-morada @highbrujita
@naomi121406 is by far the most active and informative tumblr resource ive found, shes an afro-indigenous diaguita curandera from argentina so shes also really helpful if ATRs are in your path!
Im not black myself and dont follow ATRs so i don’t really know many good blogs for afrolatine brujxs out there but if anyone would like to tag some in the replies thatd be awesome!
instagram: Ive found that instagram #brujeria tags has a pretty healthy active stream of posts. You’re gonna have to sift through a lot of them to get to the good stuff though- imo a lot of hispanics use the brujería tag not to mean “latine brujería” but just the spanish word for witchcraft, so a lot of white hispanics will put wicca/neo witchcraft in the tag. imo that’s really not something i’m personally interested in bc it’s not true to brujeria’s traditional nature, is very white/eruropean , and that wicca shit basically just got here. its a relatively a recent thing😭 so i try to stick to bruja accounts that aren’t influenced by that.
youtube: The youtube brujería tag is hit or miss? and again, contains a lot of wicca. But there are some good practitioners on there like The Mexican Witch! You just gonna look around, and dont be afraid to click on videos by really really small youtubers; they often are the ones with the most informative and legit things to say!
Everyone’s path as a bruja/o/x (sjdf trying to be inclusive w gendered language is difficult) is different but here are some topics i think are great to look into as a beginner!
ancestors: start at the bottom and figure out who they are, where theyre from, and set up an altar. it’ll help you a lot with figuring out your identity and path as a bruja later on.
setting up a grimoire
divination: tarot is actually what got me into brujeria at first! tarot isnt strictly traditional and is european in itself but its a wonderful tool for connecting to dieties, saints, etc as well as super fun and helps a lot with introspection
ritual abrecaminos, aka road opening spells!
amarres (love spells... proceed with caution)
limpias, mal de ojo
saint work: even if you’re not catholic (im ex catholic), a growing number of us (especially lgbt latines like @/upliftherbs on instagram) are starting to take back and decolonize our view of saints like La Virgen Maria and removing her from the rigid european/colonized interpretation thats been forced into us
candle spells in general (i fucking love candles tbh, cheap, easy, fun, and WORKS)
spiritual colognes, how to cleanse
finally, here are some helpful posts yall should definitely read and think about moving forward!
about using tumblr as a resource
about looking into brujeria as a part-white part latine
bruja psa + about reclaiming lost indiginety
honestly naomi’s entire brujeria tag is great and super informative for beginners and basically holds answers for almost anything at this point
hope this post helps yall out!

EDIT: oh lord now that this is posted the outline format i tried to use is all kinds of fucked up please dont mind the odd numbering lmfao tumbr hates organized formats

you always talk about casting spells and looking for unfalsifiable proof afterwards, so i was curious what have been occasions in your personal practice or just any examples you could give of casting a spell and being proven 100% right that it worked?
In terms of operative magic specifically, here are a few from recent years:
Target A was extorting Friend B for a large sum of money. He had been hounding him daily asking for the money which B absolutely did not want to pay and frankly had no reason to owe. B asked me to make A forget about the money. Within two days of the ritual, not only did A completely forget him calling B, the cash, and the original situation that arose that made him go after him in the first place, he also randomly sent B the same amount he had been asking for over PayPal just because he felt like he owed him money, though he couldn’t remember why. He never contacted him again.
Someone had been harassing a good friend of mine. Through a series of well-timed curses taking advantage of immigration bureaucracy, his own lawyers and closest confidants within the system began to ignore him past every deadline and he was unable to renew his visa. Needless to say, he was Hot Footed out of the country. The list of residual misfortunes that waited him upon his return is extensive.
I had an extremely specific list of characteristics, personality traits, ambitions, qualities, etc. in a romantic partner which I included in a petition to draw an ideal lover. I met my now-boyfriend out of the blue shortly after enchanting it under the guidance of a guardian spirit and the archangel of Venus, and he checked off every single one.
I have also repeated this working for a friend, who met his now-wife the week after. They now have two children as well.
I conjured a demon to bring me the monetary resources and personal connections to knowledgeable and powerful adepts of a particular tradition I knew was obscure and difficult to initiate into, whose personalities I would get along well with, respect, and genuinely care for. When the individuals were made known to me, I confirmed their validity with a corresponding angel. I have since then become close friends with these people and have learned secrets and ingress far beyond what I had initially even hoped for.
An abusive landlord was trying to evict a friend of mine who lives in Nigeria. He had hired men to intimidate him and tried to bribe other individuals to testify against him as well. My friend asked me for help, and I began my court case work, targeting the judge, the landlord, the landlord’s lawyer, and my friend’s lawyer all separately. The landlord didn’t show up for all three court hearings, his own lawyer began to give advice to my friend and advocate on his behalf, the hired thugs disappeared, and the case was decided massively in my friend’s favor.
I personally do a lot of weather magic, which is a really easy way to test for results. I check to see report so I know what’s likely to happen, and then do something radically different. Pulling hail in the summer, sudden rain, precise winds up to a desired strength, etc. are all possibilities to practice with.
There are a lot of asks floating around this blog that essentially repeat the same question: what is the most powerful spell for X goal? I would offer that it is more helpful to consider operative magic along a spectrum of factors far beyond recipes. The actual structure and technique of the ritual is one aspect, but so is the divination done prior to working magic to see potential outcomes and how they would change if you adapted the spell differently; which targets you focus on and how (who do you charm, who do you curse, who do you bless, what do you do to which area first and in which order?); the physical links you have (hair, nails, spit, etc.); and most importantly the relationship you have with the spirits you are relying on.
If a stranger asks me for $500 on the street, I’m not going to give it to them. But if my best friend did, I happily would. Look at who you already have relationships with and ask them - if you needed to manifest this result, how would you do it? I would caution anyone from shopping around for different spirits for every single ritual, and similarly to not over-assign roles to spirits. You can conjure for money using every single planet, not just Jupiter. Sol can make you outshine all your competitors for the job, garbing you in brilliance so bright only you remain visible in the eyes of those who have the power to award you what you seek. Venus can sweeten all parties to your favor, while Mars grants you victory and expels all opponents. Absolutely do explore other spirits and powers you’re interested in cultivating working relationships with, but do not forget how nuanced and deep your existing alliances go. Always divine on what you are missing, what information you need that you lack, how your working would be improved upon, etc. Where is there room for what you are looking for? Oftentimes I’ve enchanted directly for the financial success and prosperity of my bosses and academic advisers, so that the new money and grants they received would both relieve them of stress (making them more useful for me in the long run) and have more resources immediately on hand to pass on to me in the form of raises, new opportunities, projects, travel funding, and so on.
Now with that out of the way (and I’m aware I’m giving way more than what the OP was asking for, but I do hope it will be helpful for people!) - there’s an implication in questions like these that relates to more than just verifying spells, but rather about proving that magic itself is real and tangible. I would offer that the possibilities of spirit contact described in both literary grimoire magic and among traditional oral lineages of witchcraft and sorcery are most definitely not being exaggerated in their testimonies. What follows are examples I have either personally seen or facilitated through conjuration:
A spirit manifesting visibly so that everyone in the room could see and hear it. It could also catch objects thrown at it and suspend them in the air plainly for all to see.
A spirit physically manifesting an object from thin air that I to this day keep as a powerful amulet. It can move on its own and never rusts or tarnishes.
A spirit manifesting to fill the sky with its body, with numerous witnesses who did not believe in any kind of non-physical entities witnessing it.
Spirits manifesting as physical, concrete shadows that could be picked up with the hands and manipulated plainly for all to see.
Within the context of mounting/spirit possession in ATRs, mounts (or horses, aka possessed persons) when incorporated with spirits have: spoken languages fluently they have no knowledge of but which the spirit speaks; been cut with knives/stabbed/had their hands placed in boiling oil/hot peppers rubbed on their orfices and so on without any injury, pain, or wounds/blood; defied gravity; suddenly healed major diseases and illnesses; caused all the animals in the room to die suddenly at the same time upon possession, physically transformed in skin and eye color; and more.
Not every working requires physical spirit manifestation. Not every magical goal requires the same amount of effort. But it is always possible to push deeper, as we are inclined to do. For as occultists, we pursue the hidden, especially what is hidden from us, no matter how practiced we are. That hunger for knowledge and ingress into the unknown defines magicians of all skill levels. Whether you end up initiating into a living tradition or working a grimoire that promises visible spirit manifestation by the book, there are myriad ways of discovering just how viscerally tangible and “real” magic is for yourself, if you’re willing to put in the time and exercise the diligence and cunning for it.

I think it would be worth having a discussion about how like. The Satanic Panic and the overall need to sell books impacted the kind of magic-related books that were written, got published, and were readily accessible (i.e., found in most bookstores or libraries for a reasonable price), basically from Witchcraft Today to... today.
Because the Satanic Panic and other public perceptions of witchcraft prior to the 80s absolutely made authors want to sanitise and make magic appealing to the general public, which is where we get a lot of stuff like:
Witches never ever worshiped a devil, especially the Christian one, we promise.
Cursing is bad and evil and real witches never do it! Rule of three!
Just, a general focus on ‘love and light’ and a complete disregard for anything (especially history) that doesn’t fit into that specific aesthetic.
The overuse and over-reliance on foreign secret mysticism to sell books, aka appropriation. You see this in a lot of books on chakras and various ATR, ADR, and other non-white practices written by and for white people.
But it’s hard to find proper sources for such a discussion even though we are absolutely feeling the effects of it now, and I feel it’s only barely being acknowledged in a constructive manner.

note to my fellow black witches
first of all there are black roma people
i am not one of them but they exist just as there are black people part of every culture we are the indigenous people of the world
that doesnt mean ALL of us have claim to EVERYTHING an im seeing more of us(non romani black ppl) using the G slur (g*psy)
its not a term for spiritual people it doesnt mean free spirited it doesnt mean divine its a slur a violent digusting ignorant slur non-roma esp yt ppl use to erase and dehumanize people
if ur not roma stop using it
i get that this info is erased p enthusiastically in witchy circles and i dont hear this spoken about in rootwork circles hardly at all
and it only became a visible problem to me recently now that there's a (needed) influx of black spirituality/ATRs
we're not caucuses we don't need to enact their violence to be great
also related is the push for smudging and using palo santo
smudging isnt just burning a bundle of herbs with ur window open and honestly idk what it actually entails because i'm not native american
palo santo is harvested without killing or falling trees, theres a method and cultural importance to it that i know little about past its not for me and the trees are disappearing because its the new wave and i see many witches of color and black witches no longer discussing cultural ways to cleanse or do work because once something is popularized it is abused we're hurting our planet our people and ourselves
we need to be conscious in our search to be conscious

Features Are Not A Priori
This is in my opinion a significant general problem in language typology: many current-day theories tend to falsely conflate descriptive economy within a language with descriptive economy across the entire theory.
Continuing with the example of featural phonology… Within a single language or even a group of closely related languages, it can be often a good idea to bundle together various slightly different articulations under a single feature (a good example is probably “emphatic” in Semitic, which covers at minimum pharyngealization, uvularization and glottalization). But when comparing different languages, it’s important to not be too hasty in assuming that any unusual phonemes encountered in them work the same way as similar-sounding ones in some language you’re already familiar with. Each language should be analyzed first as its own system, not as an extension of some other unrelated language. If we can find that familiar near-universal categories like “vowel” or “labial” or “nasal” emerge, that’s all good and proper. But preconceptions on what categories can occur at all leads every so often to forced misanalyses.
Consider that linguistically naive speakers quite often treat Slavic / Romanian /ɨ/ and Germanic / French / Northern Finnic /y/ (I have no data on how Albanian compares) as “the same thing”: a vowel that is between /i/ and /u/. And if you chart them on a 1st versus 2nd formant phonetic vowel chart, that‘s indeed where they both fall. But they’re different in their articulation (mid~back illabial versus front labial), which is in fact audible in their 3rd formants, and which can be also reflected in different phonological properties (e.g. /y/ is sometimes palatalizing, /ɨ/ to my knowledge never is). You can even find a handful of languages that distinguish the two of them, even in Europe, such as Southern Sami, South Estonian, arguably Turkic. We have indeed ended up with linguists universally avoiding calling /ɨ/ and /y/ the same thing. Similarly we distinguish between central and back vowels instead of lumping both as “non-front”, or between implosives and ejectives instead of lumping both as “glottalized”, even though these contrast only in very few languages indeed.
But both the IPA and featural phonology regardless remain at least a bit Eurocentric, and I think many distinctions along the lines of the y/ɨ example remain conflated. The IPA still has plenty of ill-defined wastebasket symbols like “ɪ” that just mean “kinda like /i/ but different”, for which there’s not that much consensus on how they work featurally. I believe in many cases this means that there are various contrasts going undetected or underappreciated. If you’re in NW Europe, /ɪ/ means a phonologically short /ĭ/, with slightly centralized articulation; wheras if you’re in sub-Saharan Africa, it means phonologically RTR (retracted tongue root) or at least non-ATR /i̙/, with no necessary centralization or shortness. And anywhere else in the world — good luck figuring out what’s really going on from just the IPA transcription. Selkup for example has an “ɪ” that is the non-palatalizing equivalent of plain /i/, while its neighbor Khanty has sometimes been described as having “ɪ” that is however rather schwa with front harmony. Both new senses entirely, with not much else in common with the previous two cases than the notation.

African Traditional Religions
Tumblr media
I see a lot of references to and posts about Vodou and Santería online, but there are so many more African traditional religions (ATRs) that almost never get discussed! For anyone of African descent who wants to learn more about the diverse set of African-based traditions around the world, here’s a still incomplete but much longer list. If any information is incorrect, message me.
AFRICAN RELIGIONS & CULTURAL APPROPRIATION
🔴Closed  |  🔶Semi-Closed/Initiatory  |  ✅Open
The vast majority of ATRs are semi-closed/initiatory, meaning that you cannot fully engage with and practice the religion without being initiated into it or at least joining an in-person community of initiated practitioners. Some of these communities will choose to initiate people regardless of their ancestry or race and some will not. The only way to find out is to respectfully find a community of practitioners and ask about the possibility, but if the answer is no then it’s no. If you are a part of the culture and/or have a significant amount of heritage from the group that developed the religion, it’s okay to worship/interact so long as you do so in a way that’s appropriate for non-initiates. If you aren’t initiated, aren’t a part of the culture, and don’t have any heritage related to it, please treat it as a completely closed religion!
RASTAFARI
➡ Abrahamic, monotheistic, originated in Jamaica
🔴Closed religion, must be of African descent to practice
An Abrahamic spirituality that developed in Jamaica during the 1930′s, Rastas don’t refer to their faith as a religion or “-ism” because that would be contrary to its core ideas. They worship one God, whom they call Jah, and many regard Haile Selassie, the former emperor of Ethiopia, as a messiah. As an Afrocentric movement, Rastafari focuses on the African diaspora and the oppression of black people in Western societies. They refer to Western Society as Babylon and Ethiopia or Africa as a whole as the Promised Land of Zion. Smoking cannabis, wearing dreadlocks, and living naturally are all a part of livity, which is what they call the Rasta lifestyle and sacred practices.
YORUBA IFÁ
➡ Indigenous, shamanism, diffused monotheism, originated in West Africa
🔶Initiatory for everyone, partially open only to those of African descent
A form of West African indigenous shamanism. Many thousands of years ago, the Yoruba people of West Africa (primarily in Nigeria) developed an oral tradition and sacred literature called Ifá, which through the slave trade would become the origin of many diasporic ATRs around the world. Worship of the orishas as well as olorisha, babalawo, and iyalawo/iyanifa all come from the Yoruba people’s Ifá traditions in West Africa. The orishas are spirits of nature representing certain personalities and divine powers of the one supreme deity Olodumare. Though many people in the US practice Santería, there are also plenty who choose to practice Ifá traditions the Yoruba way and even fly to Nigeria to be initiated by Yoruba priests.
SANTERÍA/LUCUMÍ
➡ Afro-Cuban, Catholic syncretism, shamanism, diffused monotheism
🔶Initiatory for everyone, partially open only to Africana/Latinx people
Also called La Regla de Ocha (”Way of the Saints”), Santería developed as a distinct Afro-Cuban religion when the slave trade brought many Yoruba people practicing Ifá traditions to Cuba. Those Yoruba descendants in Cuba became the Lucumí people, who developed their own version of the religion syncretized with Catholicism. Most slaves were forced to practice Catholicism, and so pretending to worship saints was a survival tactic to preserve ancestral traditions in a new form. Santería is still widely practiced in Cuba, the US, and many other parts of the world.
PALO
➡ Afro-Cuban, Catholic syncretism, animism
🔶Initiatory for everyone, partially open only to Africana/Latinx people
Also called Las Reglas de Congo (”Ways of the Congo”), Palo is another Afro-Cuban religion with several different denominations including Monte, Mayombe, Briyumba, and Kimbisa. While many ATRs are derived mostly from West African traditions, Palo's roots are in Central Africa and the Congo Basin. Developed by the ancestors of many Kongo slaves brought to Cuba, Palo's liturgical language is a mix of Spanish and Bantu languages called habla Congo or lengua. Palo Cristiano are practitioners who syncretize with Catholicism and Palo Judio are those who do not. The Kimpungulu and Zambi are worshipped not orishas.
CANDOMBLÉ
➡ Afro-Brazilian, Catholic syncretism, shamanism, diffused monotheism
🔶Initiatory for everyone, partially open only to Africana/Latinx people
An Afro-Brazilian faith derived from Yoruba Ifá traditions as well as Fon and Bantu practices. The way Santería developed in Cuba out of Yoruba Ifá practices through the slave trade is very similar to how Candomblé became a distinct religion in Brazil. Like Santería, Candomblé is also blended with Catholicism, using saints as covers for the worship of African deities. Some noticeable differences between Santería and Candomblé include the orisha Nana Buruku and unique Brazilian terminology and spellings (i.e. orixa).
WEST AFRICAN VODOU
➡ Indigenous, shamanism, diffused monotheism, originated in West Africa
🔶Initiatory for everyone, partially open only to African descent
Acceptable spellings of Vodou include Vodun, Vodon, Vodoun, Vodou, and Voudou (not “voodoo”). It is the traditional religion of many West African cultures including the Fon, Ewe, and Kabye peoples. Vodou has many similarities to Yoruba Ifá in that spirits called the loa or lwa similar to orishas are worshipped who represent the natural divine powers of one supreme deity called Mawu or Mahu similar to Olodumare. Some loa and orishas are similar or even nearly identical, but Vodou beliefs and practices with the loa are very different and particular to the religion’s traditions. West African Vodou also spread through the slave trade around the world and became the originating religion for many diasporic traditions. It is possible to travel to Benin or other countries to be initiated into Vodou by an Africa priest or priestess, so West African Vodou is practiced primarily in West Africa but also worldwide.
GLOBAL DIASPORIC VODOU RELIGIONS
➡ Haitian Vodou, Dominican Vudú, Cuban Vodú, Brazilian Vodum
🔶Initiatory for everyone, partially open only to Africana/Latinx people
As listed above, West African Vodou spread around the world and developed into many different diasporic traditions just as Santería and Candomblé developed from Yoruba Ifá traditions. The most well-known diasporic branch is Haitian Vodou, where the religion’s formation by African slaves in Haiti also played a role in helping liberate the nation from French colonial rule. However, Vodou can also be found in the Dominican Republic, Cuba, Brazil, and the United States (particularly Louisiana where the term Voodoo is also popular). Across the many different diasporic Vodou traditions, Catholic syncretism and using the saints as a cover for worshipping loa is also significant.
KEMETICISM & KEMETIC ORTHODOXY
➡ Reconstructed, polytheistic, monolatry, originated in Northern Africa
✅Kemeticism is open, but Kemetic Orthodoxy has a conversion process
Kemeticism is the modern reconstruction of the religious traditions of Ancient Egypt. Kemetic Orthodoxy is a specific tradition of Kemeticism, which was founded by Rev. Tamra L. Siuda in the late 1980′s. Their official website says, “Kemetic Orthodoxy is an African Traditional Religion, and bears similarity to other African Traditional and African Diasporic religions (such as the West African religions of the Yoruba, Akan, Congo, and Dahomeyan peoples; and Afro-Caribbean practices of Vodou, Candomble, and Lukumi) as well as spiritual practices from northeastern Africa and the ancient Near East. Practicing Kemetic Orthodoxy requires a commitment to understanding a cultural heritage established in the past, which Kemetic Orthodoxy continues to respect and represent, even in places and times well removed from its original practice.” [x]

Work this into ATR
lie[F] ATR + new chapter poem for another chapter.
To win at failure is a failure of needs. (work on it) [complete] Pastern: What aspect of potential prevails when you’re living in a world based on poor standards? There are people born with handicaps due to no fault of their own because life is an extended bad dream built on mountains of bad medicine. Winning here is a losing game, and to win at failure is a failure of needs mired in wants and wants mired in needs. Especially when it comes at the cost of ourself and those around us. Failure to understand beyond our desire to understand is the worst of failures.
One day someone dressed a certain way to point at something and everyone got obsessed with the hand pointing. The garb and the glam but not the aim. Then some someone created caste and clique animosities to prevent people from getting together on anything. To jam them up and jam them up right good they did. Persons acting ridiculously creating traffic jams on the streets of life. Ain't nobody got time to be held up like that. A tesla valve faced wrong ways for fevered egos building up false distinctions based on pretty patterns that someone naughtily bent towards petty separations instead of understandings. A diversion of messy priorities. You can afford that when all your needs are met. And when they aren’t, left warring and wanting for all manners of addiction based oblivion half-priced in every bodega bin or dark and hidden alley. Hook remains the same though, needs met or withheld. Some pained with luxury and some pained by pain. Sometimes both. Obvious pain or hidden pain, it all hurts in the end. Now this may seem like a tangent, Lasturn. But follow me with it with what’s prior in mind.
Worms lack sensory understanding of what their role in their world is. Only capable of consuming and consumption. The expanse of their experience is the taste of what’s rotting. How incredibly unfair for them. Not as bad as the ants of this world, all bite and build. Failures and mistakes are the smallest points of strain under which someone you care about dies. Ants do not care much if the one next to them lives or dies. (Though they have collective concerns.) Pastern: I do not stand between other persons and what they desire. What I desire is singular. Magister: I care, even about the ants. I mostly care that they are far enough away from me to grow out of it, which millions of years evolution hasn’t changed them much in a way that matters in an optimistic light. But I do know I do not want them around biting at everything, and I do not want to hurt them. They persist in this world in a sad state at their own expense. What a miserable existence; they know nothing else. Wish the non-bitey ones were still around. Lasturn: Where did they go? Magister: All bitten by the bitey ones. Lasturn: We’ve no time for this, why are you mentioning ants, Calendar? Response: A mirror for your pains, how you do not know them, and how others suffer for it. You were never meant to know certain things. Not allowed. Born to be a have not, and how I so desperately wish that not for you. Older Pastern Pastern: The notion that people lacked knowledge of their external existence in relation to others until they were able to perceive it, which not only took a mirror but a greater understanding of self as separate yet still existing in relation to others. Some persons lack an awareness of an internal and external landscape and sufferings that lay hidden from them. They fall in love or hate with the pain and romance the prison they grew up in. If you look at the world outside or see yourself in the mirror, do you only perceive the bars or do you see your soul moving in the spaces between that refractory? Never make love to the bars of a cell. The soul is its own, but it is bound to contexts that can not contain its spirit. Forced into a hall of mirrors; confounded in solipsisms. Many are trapped in conditions that are beneath them, and Hell is simply a place where individuals are taught to accept the worst circumstance as the most they could hope for because they have never been allowed to know anything else. Tired of all the things they call strength in both Heaven and Hell. I aim to turn a prison into the armor of my own design, both inviting and protecting—of all I love, inside me and out. An eternal combat of my own love’s design. Heaven is for lazy people and Hell takes a lot of work to get into.(contextualize this statement, so it’s not just funny and doesn’t just lead people to the wrong conclusions)
Hopefully the good work. I did a lot of the stupid work, and that was hard. But I learned from it. (Notes to coauthor: You’re trying to justify yourself, aren’t you?) Calendar: Ah Daedalus, crap dad kills son to prove point. That is an A+ arsehole. Could have tried talking to him more. Poor little one, pent up in a fakkin’ cage, and got to be free for a sad moment. That dad is exceptionally crap and a real pap. Such shame, failing heart 101 with such a gross win. Called his son’s pain ambition and labeled himself a teacher. And for all the time after, such sad tale: it was like a line of jackholes tossing their two cents, lots, and thoughts in on the matter like some gross wishing well built on a child’s death. Come hear the story about a son’s failure and a father proving a rather gross and dull point, such dullards building on hallowed hollow wasteland of ersatz truth. Should have been a night flight, the low light would have helped in more ways than one too. You want to teach someone to understand failure intimately in order that they may avoid it, not to engage in it or teach them to fail. Yikes, that's literally planning for failure, that's worse than regular failure. Wow, that’s literally what literally means. Not every time someone gets that right. Caendar: (after inebriation) I feel like someone attempted to make coitus with my brain. This is extremely unpleasant And I do not have enough arms to keep proclaimed sapiosexuals away. It might make it worse. Lastern witty retort point out it was the drink Is this the same God who secretly watched people naked and got angry when they started putting clothes on? Hard pass. There aren't enough people or not enough sense between them to think things through?

Ultraviolet Spectroscopy: An Effective Method To Authenticate The Purity Of Yemeni Sidr Honey
The use of honey for medicinal and magnificence purposes can be followed to the antiquated beginning for its excellent mending properties and disposal of contaminations and sicknesses. Honey is viewed as the sweet liquid gold among our progenitors and wellbeing specialists. The forests have created a wide assortment of honey across the globe. In any case, the mysterious advantages and nature of Sidr Honey from Yemen can't be disregarded.
Honey creation and beekeeping are extremely old callings in Yemen, tracing back to the tenth century B.C.E.4 Yemen produces, yearly, as much as 5600 tons of a few regular assortments, of which the most renowned is the Sidr or Elb nectar (Ziziphusspina-christi L. Desf. Rhamnaceae), which is basically sent out to the Gulf States with yearly total gross incomes of U.S. $40 million.
The normal specifications of the Sidr honey created from Dawan and Gerdan valleys in Hadramout and Shabwa governorates, separately, are very much protected because the honey bees construct their hives with no human obstruction, making this specific honey one of the finest and best quality monofloral honey varieties around the world.
Like numerous other great honey types, restricted accessibility and high estimating of Sidr honey are presumably the greatest allurements for its adulteration with other neighbourhood polyfloral honey types. Subsequently, identification of realness is significant for the financial reasons in addition to buyer and producer security.
How to Test the Authenticity of Sidr Honey?
Numerous different procedures are utilized in authenticity testing of honey including pollen investigation (melissopalynology),which was utilized as the customary strategy to decide the honey's botanical origin. In the previous few decades, new analytical strategies were carried out for the determination of honey’s plant beginning in an effort to find alternative methods for honey confirmation. These strategies were based on factual assessment of their physicochemical data or the determination of certain synthetic constituents to be utilized as biomarkers by applying different chromatographic and spectro-scopic techniques. Recently, logical procedures in conjunction with multivariate examination and chemometrics have been generally carried out in the quality control of various foods and natural drugs. Reports on the verification of honey tests utilizing this methodology have likewise gotten wider recognition where different honey attributes were associated with chemometrics for organic and geological classification. Analytical techniques utilized incorporated the estimation of physicochemical boundaries of honey, application of GC-MS for the portrayal of unpredictable compounds, and quantitation and portrayal of sugars utilizing Ramanspectroscopy and HPLC and of flavonoids utilizing LC-DAD-ESI/MS.
Ultraviolet Spectroscopy for Authentication of Sidr Honey
Ultraviolet spectroscopy was utilized to classify floral origins, to identify honey contaminated by the addition of fructose, glucose, and corn syrup and to develop adjustments for the quantitative expectation of physicochemical estimations of honey as protein, fat, and moisture. Fourier change mid-infrared (FT-MIR) spectros-duplicate was set up for investigating physicochemical parameters of honey whereas MIR-ATR spectroscopy was shown to offer a significant way to deal with nectar authentication. The use of UV spectroscopy in the examination of food products has expanded during the previous decade, likely due to its benefit of being straightforward, fast, nondestructive, and relatively reasonable to convey. Although there has been a consistent development in uses of nectar authentication using IR spectroscopy just as other spectroscopic methods, little research has been done utilizing bright (UV)spectroscopy for this reason regardless of its many benefits of simplicity, quickness, and low cost. A study utilizing size exclusion chromatography (SEC) coupled to UV diode cluster detection(UV-DAD) for natural and topographical classification and another applying front face fluorescence for the botanicalclassification of nectar tests in Switzerland, both combined with chemometrics, were the nearest to the introduced approach. The work introduced in this examination targets creating and establishing a basic model, in light of chemometric investigation ofUV spectroscopic information, to confirm any organic case made on Yemeni Sidr honey. The planned model will take into consideration the detection of contamination coming about because of admixture with honey of lower quality and cost just as the validation of genuine Sidr honey. This model may likewise fill in as a premise for implementing this strategy to other honey types around the world.
The UV assimilation groups of the introduced tests are usually associated with the presence of different chromophores exemplified in different parts as phenolics, flavonoids, and conjugated systems as well as other UV-absorbing systems, and as of late these mixtures have been utilized as markers for the assurance of the natural beginning of honey. The UV range of each of the contemplated honey samples was recorded (20 reproduces for the 13 certifiable Sidr samples and 5 duplicates for every one of the 25 advertised samples) versus 200 factors addressing the receptiveness in the region between 200 and 400 nm.
The chemical composition of the honey will change as per the contaminant nectars, which inconsequence are influenced by the variety in the chemical composition of similar plant animal groups developing at different altitudes. In the spring season, on the off chance that it rains, an enormous number of plants, including Ziziphus, will flower in Dawan valley where honey creation happens and, henceforth, the constituents of the polyfloral honey may resemble that of the genuine Sidr samples. In harvest time (September−November), the flowering period of Ziziphus trees, a couple of different plants will bloom at the same time; therefore, the honey delivered is considered of premium quality (Bagheah Sidr nectar), while that produced in spring is called Marbaee and is generally polyfloral and thus of less quality.
Conclusion
All in all, considering the numerous factors associated with the production of Yemeni Sidr honey, for example, geographic location, botanical origin, and harvesting season, the methodology of using UV spectroscopy combined with chemometric investigation methods was confidently ready to segregate certified Sidr honey from non-Sidr and somewhat substandard polyfloral samples accessible in Yemen and even achieve classification inside the genuine Sidr samples. Applying HCA to the spectroscopic information resulted in the effective segregation of certified Sidr honey from polyfloral and non-Sidr nectar just as the differentiation of Sidr Honey as per collection elevation. Both HCA and PCA showed clear gathering examples and high similarity of most of the 14 promoted tests to the Sidr tests. SIMCA was effectively ready to arrange the genuine Sidr nectar from non-Sidr honey samples with a reasonable outline. Additionally, the model had the option to recognize admixture of real Sidr honey with closely related polyfloral honey by identification cutoff points of >10%, which possibly serves the exchange of honey in Yemen. Finally, the model was fit for recognizing veritable Sidr honey collected in Hadramout from that gathered in different locales as far as KSA and India. Mr. B A Barry, CEO & founder of Geohoney says that, further examinations on the under-investigated Yemeni Sidr honey including the fusion of considerably more samples, of different natural and geological origins, into the model just as compositional examination of the honey would definitely emphasize the model and is considered for future work. At long last, embracing the model for the authentication of other honey types overall is suggested as a simple and modest methodology.
