16. A childhood headcanon

She was so speedy, Noroi had his hands full for certain. Just dashing around, causing mayhem and chewing on anything she could find. Also I think she’d be an orange juice kid, but just generally liked attempting to describe the flavors of human foods to Noroi. “These taste kind of like a kidney, but lighter!” and etc. 

21. When do you think they were at their happiest?

During her childhood with Noroi! A better time when she could genuinely believe such things as “love” were real and that she was cared for. I’m sure she still had questions and anger, but she had someone to guide her through it. If V had just left them alone maybe she would’ve grown into a stable and happy ghoul but we can’t have anything nice, can we. 

22. When do you think they were at their lowest?

She was always a bit violent and enjoyed learning what made people tick, but it was an innocent fascination until V “took” Noroi from her and she began cannibalizing, growing more desperate and angry in proportion to her strength. With the closest thing she had to family gone, she only had her mother’s diary and the actions of those around her to ponder, and built up a lot of resentment on account of it. She felt better after turning to taking it out on investigators because it was easier to compartmentalize that way. Also it helped when Noro returned, but she quickly realized he never really came back, and compartmentalized the daughterly affection she used to have for him as well. 

24. What do you think is a secret they have that they never told anyone?

She really enjoys puppet shows! She just thinks they’re adorable and really fun, but she’s not going to bring along anyone, unless it’s self-made and technically a puppetshow, but really just some variety of psychological torture she's forcing someone to watch. (ie: The puppets look like your friends and they slowly get eaten by a puppet of a beast or something, and then surprise she ate your friends.)

Someday they're Noro's children, most of the day they are girl besties, but once in a while when I take the pills I'll acknowledge that Tatara has romantic feelings for Eto but that doesn't matter to me 😇 canon is already dead to me anyways

My main problem with this ship is, I believe that there's no way Eto would reciprocate Tatara's romantic feeling. Not to mention the mouth stitches thingy is kinda suspicious if you ask me so I'd rather not thinking about that (you can see that I rarely draw his mouth stitched).

FuruUi is, the kind of ship that most people won't ship at first sight. But once you find the right person to listen to, you will see that they have so so much potentials it's unreal. At least to me because I'm a sucker for toxic relationship and the kind "two people who will destroy each other if they are placed in the same room but if they got out they will be a menace to the society". Sadly I'm afraid that I might not be able to contribute anything because I can't understand Furuta to do anything about him

1. How many different sketches do you usually have until your piece is finished?

If it’s a commission (that doesn’t require drawing the exact reference), I have 4 stages of sketching:

Stage 1. Ideas sketching. I do stickmans and general shapes that are most understandable to me. Doesn’t have to be clean, just enough for me to understand how I will place my elements in the paper, how movement flows, how the posture will look, etc etc. Here are some of my stage 1 sketches:

This one’s for a collab painting I will do with a friend. That’s our sketches while conceptualizing.

These are my concept sketches for the recent splatoon commission I did. For commissions, I always do 3-6 sketches of different poses when given freedom, which I will then present to my client and see which one they like best and I’ll go with it (bc I’m indecisive too LMAO)

Stage 2: Presentable concept sketch. When I have these ideas pinned down, I’ll make a more presentable version of the sketch to send to the client. That means visible body shape & posture, key facial expressions, mvt indications, etc. Following the splatoon commission sketches, here’s their stage 2:

Stage 3: Initial sketch on paper. When the client chose which posing is best, I’ll sketch it down on paper. I use rule of thirds, mark the margins, make sure the proportions are aligned and correct before I do the last stage (bc it’s going to be tedious to readjust everything once I’ve noticed it’s not centered or smth like that). I forgot to take a picture of the other posing’s stage 3, but it’s like this!

Stage 4: Lineart sketching. DO NOT jump straight to hard lineart, it will leave marks or stains when you erase. Sketch lightly first with an HB or 2B or any B pencils, honestly it’s in your hand’s pressure control and how you hold the pencil, but personally HB or 2B is good. This stage can be messy as long as the main lineart is shaping.

After that, I can start 1st stage of lineart! But this is all when I do commissions or serious pieces tho. If I’m sketching for fun, I just do 1 sketch then straight to lineart ^^

2. A piece from this year that you’re really proud of?

Honestly, I’m still proud of my concept art projects for my 2D and 3D animation subjects! When I look at it, it makes me feel like a professional concept artist☺️ It’s a warm feeling seeing my old OCs drawn like they’re posted in artstation or something hahah.

3. Something you would like to improve on?

I would like to improve on a lot of things, but getting started & staying consistent is mostly my obstacle when I want to improve. I want to learn how to draw:

Hair and different types of it. Hair is the thing I hate looking at in my drawings bc I can’t get it to look how I want it to.

Backgrounds - landscapes, cityscapes, seascape, etc (and how to be patient drawing it bc I always give up halfway LMAO)

Reflective surfaces

Different textures (fuzzy texture, chrome, rough, etc)

Bokeh & blurs (traditionally, on paper)

Shadows of two or more light sources crossing together.

Plants and flowers. Always so embarrassing to draw a piece with flora in it bc they look so elementary level LMAO I absolutely love flowers, but god have you seen my “Unbosom” artwork, I was NOT proud of how I drew petunias ;w;

Animals. I will not be showing my pathetic attempts in sketching a horse from memory, but you can imagine how horrible it was for me to want to improve on drawing animals.

Musical instruments. Still a struggle, especially when instruments are drawn from a different angle like that one time I did the Issei Noro digital fanart.

Fire and water.

4. What’s something you hope people notice when looking at your art?

I hope people notice the composition! I’m trying to be mindful of space, visual weight, and shapes of the movement or the posing, they contribute a lot to how to make a drawing less static or empty looking. But honestly, if the viewers didn’t notice, that’s fine ^^

i am Deep in zelda brain rot rn and have been thinkin about my characters from the botw days and wanted to draw em again...

in the first photo are Grise and Altair, accidental Korok companion and grumpy Sheikah warrior (who got kind of a significant redesign) respectively; in the second photo we've got Sen and Noro.. i just really think the Zonai are neat and wanted to design one :'3 and my Zora priestess gal got a new outfit/armor deal.

i definitely want to draw more of these guys, i just needed to punch out some quick little references, with Sen being brand new and the others not being drawn in like 5 years lmao

H, J, and P?

H - What is your favorite source text for fandom stuff (e.g., TV shows, movies, books, anime, Western animation, etc.)?: It really depends on what I’ve heard, but typically I prefer to read the manga if I really care about the story/want to get through it faster! However there are some cases like Land of the Lustrous or Jujutsu Kaisen where the animation is so good that I start with what’s out of the anime, then go back and read it to ensure I don’t miss any details. Or alternatively, I go to the anime if I just want it as a background story while I draw. I’ve been doing that with Attack on Titan recently, it was a lot better than I anticipated so I presume the general negative opinion I’ve heard derived from its overpopularity not the quality itself? Or maybe it gets really problematic or something, haven’t finished it yet. As for Movies Vs. Books it’s a similar situation, but I prefer books more generally.

J - Name a fandom you didn’t think about until tumblr: Honestly, I’ve been introduced to a good portion of my recent fandoms by a friend of mine first, and then convinced to actually start them by tumblr art/my mutuals (mostly Quinn) so if I had to think of something that was genuinely introduced to me here… Good Omens? Haven’t watched it but I see them on my dash constantly. Oh also Witch Hat Atelier!

P - Invent a random AU for any fandom (we always need more ideas): Tokyo Ghoul obviously,

maybe an AU where all the folks pulling strings and playing king (Arima, Kaneki, Furuta, Eto) somehow end up in a very uneasy alliance to take down V for good. They argue over the ultimate goal constantly, they all hate at least two of the others, nothing’s really going well but they do get stuff done… somewhat, but they hate each other’s methods and tend to end up fighting after ever decision, and very rarely consulting each other before. The only thing keeping them united is a common goal and wanting to die.

AU where Haise is sent with the Quinx to deal with Noro instead of capturing Shuu on the roof. Shirazu doesn’t die, neither does Kanae (unless Eto decides to dispose of them?) but also, Haise never stops dreaming. But, a King is needed anyways and thus he ends up tentatively playing the role despite shironeki continuing to insist he be let out. I thought this one up right now and I haven’t considered consequences to this yet, but I like it as a concept.

Don’t think I’m inventing this but, AU where someone, legitimately anyone, comes to rescue Kaneki in time, hopefully helping him steer away from the mindset of “No one is able to help me”

AU where Juuzou and Hanbee are a little too effective and end up actually killing Kaneki (or injuring him to the point where he’s unable to dragon-ify even after taking a bite out of Hajime, leaving him only with the strength to flee) effectively throwing a wrench in everyone’s plans.

Not an AU but do you ever think about the fact that every single crucial event in Tokyo Ghoul wouldn’t have happened if Tsuneyoshi was just actually a good dad.

AU where everyone has actually decent parents (This one’s a joke but I actually cannot conceive of it.)

AU were Hide, Kimi, or someone else is the person to get Ghoul’d instead of Kaneki and the consequences thereof.

Very self-indulgent AU where Koori gets kidnapped by Aogiri instead of/in addition to Amon or Takizawa (mostly just writing this here because I’d like to draw it maybe, thematically I’m not really even sure it would work for him to begin with, but I like drawing theoretical ghouls.)

Also not really inventing this but I’d also like to draw a Pokémon AU some time.

Comic Book Saturday

This book, format wise at least, is not quite a picture book, not quite a graphic novel, but, sort of set up as a scrapbook. Which makes sense since it is also a graphic memoir of the author, Allen Say’s life, his inspirations, and his challenges. On the one side a father who didn’t understand his son, and on the other, Japan’s leading cartoonist, Noro Shinpei.

The story was great of course (since it’s an autobiography), and the art was just as amazing as in all the other books he’s illustrated.

You may like this book If you Liked: The Wall by Peter Sis, Boys of Steel by Marc Tyler Nobleman, or Sparky by Beverly Gherman

I redesigned one of my old bnha next gen OCS Noro.

Noro is the son of Tomura Shigaraki and an unnamed female vigilante. He was six years old when his mother died in front of him while fighting with his father. After his mother's death his father took him home with him and raised him. His quirk is called Stardust, an I will leave what it can do a surprise for now. For two years after his mother's death he carried her head around with him, but it mostly stays on his nightstand now. Noro can't sleep well due to nightmares, so he always looks tired. Noro is about seven in this drawing and he is cuddling with his mother's skull.
