I kinda want to reread Dune and maybe finally read all the Herbert penned ones, but

There is something that bothers me about it that I can't quite put my finger on. Like, I'm not sure, broad strokes, what Herbert was fuckin getting at. There's some (kinda awkward but I think well intentioned) anti racism and anti imperialism but beyond that ??????? Why is this story like this.

And I guess it's mostly the gender essentialism that makes me so pained about it. Like how much wisdom can a guy whose worldview rested on something this fucking wrong really impart. Like, Lord of the Rings mostly avoids this by there barely being women in it at all.
