I really wish the writers had further explored that ‘nutriment drink’ that the Inspector and Phil were served in ‘Frown’.
What was it *really* made of? Algae or the former inhabitants of the colony?

hate how much i enjoyed that horrific ice spice drink they sold at dunkin. just a mealy mess of cold caramelized blended munchkins in my nasty little maw. i felt as if i were but a chickadee being fed by my nurturing mother, comforted in some wholly true and hereditary way by her regurgitated nutriment but not long from the genesis of real and authentic life beyond my nest.

Nilonii Character Details!
Tumblr media
Sooo I liked the questions from this post so much that I decided to randomly pick one from each category to answer! These were really fun to answer, I love thinking about the smaller details, they really make a character <3
-
💍 RING — does your oc have any piercings? do they want any (more) piercings?
It doesn’t seem like it, but Nilonii has had her ears pierced in a few places! She just chooses not to wear any most of the time for reasons relating to combat; her ear cuff is always worn though. I’ve been thinking about Nilonii with nose piercings lately so I think those would be her next stop, specifically a septum or multiple nostril piercings!
The rest are under the cut :)
🚫 PROHIBITED — does your oc drink/smoke? do they do it regularly, or is it more on occasion or for special events?
She drinks, but doesn’t smoke. Nilonii is a complete lightweight so while she does enjoy her sujamma, shein and cocktails she tends to only drink by herself or in the company of people she trusts, and she doesn’t drink often either. At any sort of event she sticks to grape juice, because who can tell the difference between that and wine? She’s very convincing about it :)
🐈 CAT — does your oc prefer a wide circle of friends or a few close friends?
Her charisma and charm do tend to draw others in, but she absolutely values having a few close friends over a wide circle of friends. Having a lot of friends would make her feel anxious, she much prefers keeping others at arm’s length - unless of course they give her a reason to keep them closer.
🧡 ORANGE HEART — does your oc tend to prioritize family or friends?
Definitely family! To her, friends come and go, like the changing of the seasons. But family always remains, and what makes her family unique is that she chooses (and in the case of her biological mother, removes) every member of it herself. Close friends are like family to her as well!
🥯 BAGEL — what does your oc's typical breakfast look like? do they usually eat breakfast?
Nilonii never skips breakfast, and will usually have a bowl of nutriment paste paired with spices, and a variety of different toppings like fruits, nuts, oats, and honey or syrup. It all just depends on what she fancies on the day! She’ll usually have a cup of tea with it, such as matcha or something floral/fruity like rose tea or the TES equivalent of Earl Grey.
🤔 THINKING FACE — what are some of your oc's quirks/mannerisms?
Here’s 5 random ones!
🍇 Nilonii sometimes struggles to sit in chairs properly, and hates it when they don’t have armrests for her to dangle her legs over.
🍇 She loves hair! It doesn’t matter the texture, length, colour or style, it’s all interesting to her. Sometimes when she has nothing to do she’ll brush and style Sil’s hair while he’s working, and he’s more than happy to be a hairstyling client for his daughter <3
🍇 Literally cannot hide her disgust when it comes to things she doesn’t like. She always curls her lip and scoffs, or when it comes to food/drink she dislikes she’ll put on a dramatic show of coughing and face scrunching.
🍇 She loves to use creative insults! While she does enjoy using “s’wit” every now and then, nothing beats insults such as “you’re about as useful as a wooden cooking pot”.
🍇 Nilonii purposely walks with weight in her heels, so her boots make that loud clomping noise. She likes the way it sounds and that it draws attention to her, and people will always hear her coming before they see her. This works in her favour very well, as she can then play on this expectation of loud walking to trick others when she’s trying to be sneaky.

Something I've rarely seen addressed in discussions about food insecurity is the importance of education about nutrition. And by that I don't mean moralizing food choices, but giving people access to information about what their bodies' basic nutritional needs are and how to fulfill them even when living with food insecurity. In fact, doing this should mean less moralizing about food choices, because getting your basic nutritional needs met doesn't require eating expensive, "natural," or even fresh food.
And this information may also help people who have broad food aversions.
Some examples:
Your basic loaf of cheap-ass white bread is fortified with vitamins.
Any food that says "enriched" or "fortified" has probably had vitamins added. That includes most bread, milk, quick cook rice, and many other inexpensive foods. This trend started specifically as a way to help low-income families get a more healthy diet.
If you have little money for food, buy some fucking peanut butter if you can eat it.
A peanut butter and jelly sandwich is incredibly good in terms of providing necessary nutriment.
Canned veggies are just as good for you as fresh ones, just don't toss the water from the can! A lot of the vitamins from the veggies end up in the water.
Mixing a can of beans (I use a combination of fat free refried & black beans) with some salsa and eating it with corn chips is actually pretty damn ok.
Anything pickled has prebiotics, tasty food for your gut flora! I have been known to drink pickle juice you would not believe how good it tastes when you've been doing yardwork in the heat.
If you're going to splurge on anything in your food budget, I cannot recommend sugar-free or unsweetened foods enough. Artificial sweeteners are not the demons we've been led to believe (that's a whole other post), and once you get used to them, unsweetened foods are really yummy! We're all just used to things being astoundingly over-sweetened.
If you can't eat a particular thing (gluten, dairy, peanuts, etc), you don't need to pay for fancy alternatives like gluten free bread, plant-based milk, or whatever. There is no single food you can't live without.
If all else fails, buy some vitamins. I recommend a B-vitamin complex that includes B-12 specifically and a basic Vitamin D capsule. But your regular multivitamin, like a generic brand of Centrum, is gonna be great. My roomie has a ton of food aversions and gets by pretty well on Taco Bell and vitamin pills.
(if you have Medicaid try asking your doctor to prescribe vitamins, Medicaid will cover them in most states if you have a prescription)
Those are just things I can think of off the top of my head. I'm sure there's more that I'm forgetting. When people don't have access to this kind of information, they aren't able to leverage the choices that are available to them. And while we work for everyone to have better choices, we need to be able to make the best of what we have.

Morning and Evening by Charles Spurgeon

Morning Devotional, October 20th
"I will meditate in thy precepts." — Psalms 119:15
There are times when solitude is better than society, and silence is wiser than speech. We should be better Christians if we were more alone, waiting upon God, and gathering through meditation on his Word spiritual strength for labour in his service. We ought to muse upon the things of God, because we thus get the real nutriment out of them. Truth is something like the cluster of the vine: if we would have wine from it, we must bruise it; we must press and squeeze it many times. The bruiser's feet must come down joyfully upon the bunches, or else the juice will not flow; and they must well tread the grapes, or else much of the precious liquid will be wasted. So we must, by meditation, tread the clusters of truth, if we would get the wine of consolation therefrom. Our bodies are not supported by merely taking food into the mouth, but the process which really supplies the muscle, and the nerve, and the sinew, and the bone, is the process of digestion. It is by digestion that the outward food becomes assimilated with the inner life. Our souls are not nourished merely by listening awhile to this, and then to that, and then to the other part of divine truth. Hearing, reading, marking, and learning, all require inwardly digesting to complete their usefulness, and the inward digesting of the truth lies for the most part in meditating upon it. Why is it that some Christians, although they hear many sermons, make but slow advances in the divine life? Because they neglect their closets, and do not thoughtfully meditate on God's Word. They love the wheat, but they do not grind it; they would have the corn, but they will not go forth into the fields to gather it; the fruit hangs upon the tree, but they will not pluck it; the water flows at their feet, but they will not stoop to drink it. From such folly deliver us, O Lord, and be this our resolve this morning, "I will meditate in thy precepts."

on diets:
because of different locations and physiologies, each quiver will have different food sources and ways of eating
coast strikers: living by the coast, their main source of sustenance is obviously sea food. fish, crustaceans, mollusks, sea weed, anything they can get their claws on. on some occasions bigger creatures are hunted like sea serpents, though this is usually done only for festivals, rituals or on lean times and always in groups, since these huge snakes pose a considerable threat to dragons. the only thing never hunted is sharks, as to them these are sacred animals, believed to carry the spirits of the dead to The Depths (the streaker version of heaven basically) and killing them is strictly forbidden, and some say it brings a curse upon one's deceased ancestors. as i said in a previous post, they have a highly developed sense of taste, so making complex foods is a very important cultural aspect in the coast. many dragons from other quivers flock to the markets or even to the Roaring Coast territory itself just to try these fabled dishes. they are usually served raw, but cooking, drying, smoking and pickling is a common way of preparing foods, and salting is useful for winter, since storms and broken ice can make the seas dangerous for even the most experienced swimmers. trade with other quivers for ingredients is their main commercial activity
moor runners: at first glance the grassy plains may not seem to offer much, but runners have learned to make the most out of them. herds of large animals and smaller fauna are hunted or even kept for a steadier source of food. grains, grasses and tubers grown by farmers make up a pretty large part of nutriment here, and bread baking techniques have been rapidly evolving. hunting with wyverns is not only a big tradition, but can make this activity easier and less energy consuming. some wyvern species have also been domesticated and selectively to obtain eggs and meat (though the latter isn't usually reaped). insects are also frequently consumed
swamp lurkers: the bayou-like environment is dangerous, so anything useful is to be appreciated. lurkers are opportunistic, and have developed incredibly strong stomachs, able to eat rotting carcasses and poisonous fauna and flora. many say it's almost impossible to poison a lurker. their main source of food is hunting whatever they can find, but aquatic plant life is more readily available, therefore a frequently consumed foodstuff. fermented drinks are very popular here though, and small quantities of different lurker venoms are added to give them varied –usually recreational– effects, some even medicinal. the bog areas are also used to preserve food for harder times, and sometimes for growing hardy crops too. because of them being more closed off than the other quivers, trade isn't really common here, though not unheard of
lowlanders: vegetation is a huge part of their diet, so they're pretty well known for developing new varieties of vegetables and making savory dishes with them. meat is also consumed but on smaller quantities compared to other quivers, usually coming from livestock such as goats and cows, as well as a few fish from the river flowing in the middle of the valley
highlanders: their diets are almost a complete opposite to their lowland counterparts. high meat consumption, but birds are completely banned from the menu –many would find eating something with such a high resemblance to themselves as uncomfortable, besides birds, especially raptors, being of importance to them as symbols of certain deities or attributes like strength or good luck–. bones are usually discarded by other dragons, but mountain gliders eat them pretty frequently, as both have the bite force (or sharp beaks in the case of highlanders) to get to the marrow inside. because of their mountainous landscape, most of their food is farmed from the lowlands in the valley or sometimes traded from outside. there are running jokes about highland glider food being very flavorless and lame
wood walkers: resources are abundant in the forest, so their diet is varied. meat, roots, mushrooms, bark, seeds, plants and fruits are big staples here. sugary sweets and berry pastries are popular here, but spicy and salty foods are not at all, preferring more earthy and mild flavors. their candies and honey are valuable goods sold to other quivers

change however necessary.
“The All is alive.”
“Man is a piece of the universe made alive.”
“There’s only one corner of the universe you can be certain of improving, and that’s your own self.”
“The ultimate stuff of the universe is mind stuff.”
“The universe displays no proof of an all-directing mind.”
“There is nothing uncultivated, nothing sterile, nothing dead in the universe; there is no chaos, no confusion except in appearance.”
“Considered in its concrete reality, the stuff of the universe cannot divide itself but, as a kind of gigantic atom, it forms in its totality the only real indivisible.”
“The universe is so vast in relation to the matter it contains that it can be compared with a building twenty miles long, twenty miles wide, and twenty miles high that contains a single grain of sand.”
“The universe ought to be presumed too vast to have any character.”
“It’s embarrassing that 90 percent of the Universe is unaccounted for.”
“The universe: a device contrived for the perpetual astonishment of astronomers.”
“All places are alike in the universe.”
“We do not really ‘come into’ the world; we come out of it, as leaves from a tree.  As the ocean ‘waves,’ the universe ‘peoples.’”
“That the universe was formed by a fortuitous concourse of atoms, I will no more believe than that the accidental jumbling of the alphabet would fall into a most ingenious treatise of philosophy.”
“I do not pretend to understand the universe.  It is a great deal bigger than I am.”
“The only carrots that interest me are the number you get in a diamond.”
“A cucumber should be well sliced, and dressed with pepper and vinegar, and then thrown out as good for nothing.”
“On the subject of spinach: divide into little piles.  Rearrange again into new piles.  After five or six maneuvers, sit back and say you are full.”
“Lettuce is divine, although I’m not sure it’s really a food.”
“I have no truck with lettuce, cabbage, and similar chlorophyll.  Any dietitian will tell you that a running foot of apple strudel contains four times the vitamins of a bushel of beans.”
“An onion can make people cry, but there has never been a vegetable invented to make them laugh.”
“A world without tomatoes is like a string quartet without violins.”
“If there is one vegetable which is God-given, it is the haricot bean.”
“I confess that nothing frightens me more than the appearance of mushrooms on the table, especially in a small provincial town.”
“A mind of the caliber of mine cannot derive its nutriment from cows.”
“I won’t eat anything that has intelligent life, but I’d gladly eat a network executive or a politician.”
“A vegetarian is a person who won’t eat anything that can have children.”
“You put a baby in a crib with an apple and a rabbit.  If it eats the rabbit and plays with the apple, I’ll buy you a new car.”
“Caesar’s armies marched on vegetarian foods.”
“I was a vegetarian until I started leaning toward the sunlight.”
“I am not a vegetarian because I love animals; I am a vegetarian because I hate plants.”
“Vegetarians have wicked, shifty eyes, and laugh in a cold calculating manner. They pinch little children, steal stamps, drink water, favor beards.”
“If we aren’t supposed to eat animals, then why are they made out of meat?”
“I’m a student of violence because I’m a student of the human heart.”
“Violence, naked force, has settled more issues in history than has any other factor; and the contrary opinion is wishful thinking at its worst. Breeds that forget this basic truth have always paid for it with their lives and their freedoms.”
“Even within the most beautiful landscape, in the trees, under the leaves the insects are eating each other; violence is a part of life.”
“Always do right.  That will gratify some of the people and astonish the rest.”
“He that does good for good’s sake seeks neither paradise nor reward, but he is sure of both in the end.”
“Virtue has its own reward, but no box-office.”
“Search others for their virtue, but yourself for your vices.”
“I have found that the best way to get another to acquire a virtue, is to impute it to him.”
“A healthy appetite for righteousness, kept in due control by good manners, is an excellent thing; but to ‘hunger and thirst’ after it is often merely a symptom of spiritual diabetes.”
“Nothing is more unpleasant than a virtuous person with a mean mind.”
“He who is too busy doing good finds no time to be good.”
“To be able under all circumstances to practice five things constitutes perfect virtue; these five things are gravity, generosity of soul, sincerity, earnestness, and kindness.”
“War is God’s way of teaching Americans geography.”
“No bastard ever won a war by dying for his country.  He won it by making the other poor, dumb bastard die for his.”
“War is cruelty.  There’s no use trying to reform it.  The crueller it is the sooner it will be over.”
“To a surprising extent the warlords in shining armor, the apostles of martial virtues, tend not to die fighting when the time comes. History is full of ignominious getaways by the great and famous.”
“One of the main reasons that it is so easy to march men off to war is that each of them feels sorry for the man next to him who will die.”
“I can picture in my mind a world without war, a world without hate. And I can picture us attacking that world, because they’d never expect it.”
“War is not nice.”
“Dulce bellum inexpertis.  War is delightful to those who have no experience of it.”
“There are only three principles of warfare: audacity, audacity, and AUDACITY.”
“One who conquers himself is greater than another who conquers a thousand times a thousand on the battlefield.”
“The world began with war and will end with war.”
“The condition of man is a condition of war of everyone against everyone.”
“There has never been a kingdom given to so many civil wars as the Kingdom of God.”

“To subdue the enemy without fighting is the acme of skill.”
“Being in the army is like being in the Boy Scouts, except that the Boy Scouts have adult supervision.”
“I don’t know what weapons World War Three will be fought with, but World War Four will be fought with sticks and stones.”
“Water is H2O, hydrogen two parts, oxygen one, but there is a third thing that makes it water and nobody knows what that is.”
“Thousands have lived without love, not one without water.”
“Water is the only drink for a wise man.”
“Ever wonder about those people who spend $2 apiece on those little bottles of Evian water?  Try spelling Evian backward.”
“You know when you put a stick in the water and it looks like it’s bent but really isn’t?  That’s why I don’t take baths.”
“Expect poison from the standing water.”
“I bought some powdered water but I don’t know what to add.”
“Wealth is like seawater; the more we drink, the thirstier we become.”
“There is no wealth but life.”
“It is better to have a permanent income than to be fascinating.”
“Who is rich?  He that is content.  Who is that?  Nobody.”
“No one can earn a million dollars honestly.”
“It isn’t necessary to be rich and famous to be happy.  It’s only necessary to be rich.”
“I will tell you the secret to getting rich on Wall Street.  You try to be greedy when others are fearful.  And you try to be fearful when others are greedy.”
“It’s years since I gave a mink coat to anyone except a member of my own family.”
“To suppose, as we all suppose, that we could be rich and not behave as the rich behave, is like supposing that we could drink all day and keep absolutely sober.”
“At the back of every great fortune lies a great crime.”
“Never esteem men on account of their riches or their station.  Respect goodness, find it where you may.”
“Riches appear to me not at all necessary; but competence, I think is.”

Tips for your Health
Drink 2L of water a day, if you forget to put your water to fridge or if you don't like the odor of your bottle, put a slice of lemon in it
Speaking of water : do not drink the same brand of water everyday ! This is no good for your organism, you can end with gallstone if you overdrink calcium water. You need to vary !
Try to sleep between 7h and 8h. You can also do power nap during the day (just close your eyes during 10min, 20min max), you will feel refresh !
Sometimes, you need supplements to achieve better mental health, sleeps ou physics. No shame in that ! If you need guidance, ask a doctor or at least a pharmacist (its also work for medication)
Pilates and yoga only need a sport bra and a mat, so you can totally do your excercice in pyjamas straight out of the bed
Speaking of pyjamas, a common tips is to sleep in legging so you can work out first thing in the morning. If you prefer to sleep in something more comfy, you can buy suitracks, sweater and jogging so you have an outfit that is both comfy and that suits for sport
Tea and herbal tea are great for your health but don' forget to drink water aside of it ! In particular for green tea that is a diuretic drink, thats mean you will eliminate everything included water ! Oh, and don't drink them to close to your bedtime, if you have trouble to sleep
But green tea is also a great ally if you have trouble to digest : 20min after any meal, you can drink green tea to help you digest !
Matcha > coffee, why ? Because its will wake up you the same but softly. You don't have to buy the most expensive matcha to have good effect and taste
Try to move everyday : it can be taking out the trash, cleaning your space, walking. The idea is to no spend the all day sitting.
You have to eat three meal a day, this is no negociable BUT you can choose the size of the portions. If you don't like to eat on the morning, you can eat a fruit around 10pm so you're not starving until lunch
Writing your toughts on a journal help with stress : its like a Pensieve, you leave whats in your head so you can enjoy the present. You don't have to constrain to a journal, if don't like to. You can record yourself fe
You need some fresh air but you don't have to go outside for that matter : you can read on your garden or with your window open. You can stargaze on the night. You got the idea
You need to know how to cook basics meal, what i mean by that is meal that can fulfill you with few ingredients. Recipes idea to search (i will consacrate a full article to this subject in the future, i promise) : banana bread, avocado toast, noodle base meal, curry, tofu based meal, three ingredients salads... Pinterest is your friend on this one
And you aslo need to know how to cook from unrefined ingredients (fresh fruits and vegetables, raw meat and fish...) : fresh food is better for your health and you can totally adapt it to your preferences. Even if process food are better than they were yesterday, they stay pricey and you can never control how much fat, sugar and salt there is in it. As a bonus, if you cook with the season, you can save some money without even thinking because it will bea cheaper !
Speaking of fat, sugar and salt : we need them to be healty because our body can't produce some of them (fe omega 3 wich you can find in fish or in certain oils) but there is diffrent types of nutriments and some of them are unhealty. I recommend you to learn of this subject with neutral sources (aka scientific articles but avoid the one with title like "the role of [insert a random nutriment] in weightloss" because you can be sure that it will be a biased article writtes for some shady reason). And if someone try to convince you that fruits have to much sugar in it and you should avoid it, RUN !!!
A good way to stick to your nutriments needs is to vary oil depending on what you cook : for salads use olive oil, making a asian vibes meal ? Use sesam oil, ect..
You can also eat everyday a handful of nuts (almond, walnut...), but just one.

favorite time of year
The part right between autumn n winter. That’s when I’m optimal (can’t handle heat disease). I just like it. Fresh, big coat moment, but also not winter yet so none of the inconveniences of Frost or Snow to ruin my groove of Going places.
comfort food
ooooooh hard one. mmmmmmmmmh....my mama rarely does couscous cuz its a pain in the ass to make and always is like, huge quantities, and we’re not enough at home to justify that or like, we’d be eating it for a week straight + lamb is expensive these days, but whenever she does make it...the girl hits different. taste of joy. otherwise i got that messy quick recipe that i call NUTRIMENT HUNGER that’s basically rice with fuckton of shit in it (rice, condimented with bunch of stuff depending on my mood, n then usually its eggs and nuts slapped in -i like doing almonds chestnuts and peanuts they have a vibe.- and raisins. never forget the raisins. if i’m feeling unlazy or there’s some already chopped in the fridge i give it veggies too).
do you collect something

there’s been a few lately but moreso in a “fave albums” kinda way (i’m puttin there only things i listen to for musical enjoyment NOT mental illness -i’m proofing myself against poor leca sending me her lawyer like ‘why do i have to hear about cheese 949300200 times a day and then it’s not here- because it’s about me being sick in the head). So for music these days I’ve been hard repeating Steve Lacy’s Apollo XXI (crunchies my brain mmmh) Moses Sunmey’s grae (mmmmmmh crunchies my brain too) and Tyler the creator’s Igor (fell back in it...crunchies me...)... OH also that one perf of Persuasive doechii did..... the way the song is not my fave on the album at all but this live reset my brain. the arrangement...the seamless transition onto crazy........and even though it’s been what feels like decades i’m still not unlatching from the taste of pomegranate when that opening melody hits my finger can only hover away from the skip button.

🇫🇷🗣️Description du Domaine 🇫🇷🗣️

🇬🇧🗣️Domain Description 🇬🇧🗣️
The Alsace wine region has a unique combination of major soil types that form a true “kaleidoscope” of geologies. Pink sandstone, blue shales, limestone, granite, gypsum and volcanic rocks are some of the most interesting soils. We can find them all on the big one. We think Riesling is perhaps the best grape variety to translate these characters into wines.
In 2011, Olivier Biecher and I launched the estate exclusively dedicated to Grands Crus wines from Alsace. From Andlau to Thann, we discovered many interesting vineyards, all with a strong individual character.
Today Sophie and I are doing our best to integrate all the power of the vineyard into the style of wine we love!
A cellar dedicated to Grands Crus wines.
At the foot of the Vosges hills, just below the Château du Haut-Koenigsbourg, we have set up our wine cellar in the village of Saint-Hippolyte.
All harvested by hand, the grapes are carefully sorted and delicately passed through a pneumatic press. A long pressing of at least 12 hours is necessary to extract the best possible juice without pushing too much. After decanting at low temperature, the juice begins a long alcoholic fermentation (wild yeast) which can last up to 4 months. No sulfur n is added before the following spring to let the wine open up as much as possible. The result is a wine less sensitive to oxidation and much more aromatic.

🗣️🇮🇹Descrizione i Dominio 🗣️🇮🇹

Daily Words for Zion's Wayfarers by J.C. Philpot
Tumblr media
September 23rd
"He humbled you, causing you to hunger and then feeding you with manna, which neither you nor your fathers had known, to teach you that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord." — Deuteronomy 8:3
This is the grand lesson which we have to learn in our wilderness journey--"that man does not live by bread alone," that is, by those providential supplies which relieve our natural necessities. Thanks be to God for any bread that he gives us in his kind and bountiful providence. An honest living is a great mercy. To be enabled by the labor of our hands or by the labor of our brain to maintain our families and bring them up in a degree of comfort, if not abundance, is a great blessing. But God has determined that his people shall not live by bread alone. They shall be separated from the mass of men who live in this carnal way only; who have no care beyond earthly possessions, and the sum of whose thoughts and desires is, what they shall eat, and what they shall drink, and with what they shall be clothed; who never look beyond the purse, the business, the daily occupation, the safe return, the profitable investment, and how to provide for themselves and their families.
God has planted in the breast of his people a higher life, a nobler principle, a more blessed appetite than to live upon bread alone. We bless him for his providence, but we love him for his grace. We thank him for daily food and clothing, but these mercies are but for time, perishing in their very use, and he has provided us with that which is for eternity. What then does he mean the soul to live upon? "Upon every word that proceeds out of his mouth." But where do we find these words that proceed out of the mouth of God? In the Scriptures, which is the food of the Church, and especially in Scripture as applied to the heart, in the words that God is pleased to drop into the soul by a divine power, which we receive from his gracious mouth, and lay hold of with a believing hand. That is the food and nutriment of our soul; the truth of God applied to our heart and made life and spirit to our souls by his own teaching and testimony. And see how large and ample the supply is. Look through the whole compass of God's revealed word, and see in it what a store there is of provision laid up for the Church of God. How this should both stimulate and encourage us to search the Scriptures as for hid treasure, to read them constantly, to meditate upon them, to seek to enter into the mind of God as revealed in them, and thus to find them to be the food of our soul. If we were fully persuaded that every word of the Scripture came out of God's mouth, and was meant to feed our soul, how much more we would prize it, read, and study it.

Days of Heaven on Earth Devotional: February 25th
“I am the vine, ye are the branches” (John 15:5)
How can I take Christ as my Sanctifier, or Healer? is a question that we are constantly asked. It is necessary first of all that we get into the posture of faith. This has to be done by a definite and voluntary act, and then maintained by a uniform habit. It is just the same as the planting of a tree. You must put it in the soil by a definite act, and then you must let it stay put and remain settled in the ground until the little roots have time to fix themselves and begin to draw the sustenance from the soil. There are two stages, the definite planting and then the habitual absorbing of moisture and nourishment from the ground. The root fibers must rest until they reach out their spongy pores and drink in the nutriment of the earth. After the habit is established, then by a certain uniform law, the plant draws its life from the ground without an effort, and it is just as natural for it to grow as it is for us to breathe.
Lord, help me this day to abide in Thee, and to grow into the habit of drawing all my life from Thine so that it shall be true for me, “In Him I live and move and have my being.”
