Started watching What We Do in the Shadows and these are my initial thoughts/favourite parts.

Theme song slaps.

They're literally just a bunch of cats.

Pretty sure I'm related to an Energy vampire. May in fact be half one. Soz.

Guillermo as a concept is cracking me up cause he's just this little guy that wants to be involved in cool vampire stuff stuff but the vampires he's serving are a bunch of dysfunctional idiots that seem to be spending eternity devising ingenious ways of killing time.

Adding to that, I love the fact that he saw Antonio Banderas Interview as a kid and instantly though "If he can do it, so can I." and dedicated his life not to becoming an actor, but a vampire. Like....girl, same. lol

I'm just now realising the Collin Robinson is likely the one paying the rent.

Nandor is strait just a gothy himbo.

It's weird to recognise someone by how they move their hands but "Hi, Doug Jones."

The glitter portrait is genuinely really sweet and the proceeding conversation about how long Guillermo has been there is a really clever way o0f showing how time just doesn't matter to these creatures. They don't have to think about it. They don't have to worry about it. Basically I'm concluding that they're all suffering from a very severe case of executive dysfunction and I vibe with that.

Probably the same reason Nandor seems to view Guillermo as some kind of pet rabbit.

Scout : 

He tries his very best to be gentle with you. Even though he loves teasing and bothering people, he doesn't do it to you too because he knows how much things like that can affect you. If you ever lash out at him accidentally because you’re feeling stressed or angry, don’t worry, because he won’t take it to heart. He knows that it’s hard for you to control your emotions sometimes so he’ll never blame you or push you away. When you’re feeling down, Scout will be right there with you, hugging you until you calm down. If you have a tendency of doing dangerous activities such as gambling or self-harm, Scout will check in with you periodically to ensure you’re safe. 

Soldier : 

He very quickly realised that his usual loud tone of voice stresses you out, so whenever you’re around him, he’ll switch to a softer and more calming voice. After he found out that you have a negative image of yourself, he started a habit of complimenting you whenever he can, “You look very nice today, Y/n.” Noticing that you get anxious and sad when he leaves your side, he sticks with you whenever he can. He likes hanging out with you anyway so it’s no big deal for him. He is protective of you, very protective. Someone said something that upset you? Yeah, they’re going to be scampering away in a matter of seconds with a black eye and possibly a few broken fingers. 

Pyro : 

They are just as attached to you as you are to them. Their room is like a safe haven for you - full of cute and soft stuffed toys, sweets, colouring books, markers, big warm blankets and of course, Pyro themself. They make you feel so loved all the time with their cuddles and little doodles and flowers they give to you as gifts. If they ever catch you in the act of doing anything dangerous, they’re immediately dragging you off to the nearest safe place, be it their room or just any quiet little area, so that they cheer you up with hugs and soothing pets. Like I mentioned earlier, they give you little doodles sometimes. These doodles are often of you with lots of flowers and hearts around you with little compliments at the bottom, ‘You are amazing!’ They think you’re great and don’t want you to feel bad about yourself. 

Demoman : 

You're the only thing that sobers him up immediately, even when he's so drunk that he can barely walk straight. It's surprising how motherly he acts with you. If you’re having a really bad day, he'll cook up something nice for the both of you, listen to you and comfort you in the form of both words and hugs. He doesn't like you talking bad about yourself. "Ay, laddie.. don't say those kinds of things. They're not true." Like Scout, he won't be hurt if you lash out at him unintentionally. He is a very empathetic person, so when you're sad or hurt, he is as well. He cares a lot about you and will never be pushed away from you. 

Heavy : 

He doesn’t mind that you’re attached to him, having some company is nice. Your time together is often spent in a calm silence, reading books while soothing instrumental music plays in the back. To be honest, he doesn't know much about disorders like BPD, but he knows what upsets you and when you're upset and that's enough for him to know to take care of you. When you're going through a really tough time, he'll write some poems, sit with you, and read them to you. He also doesn't mind reading your favourite books to you until you calm down. If you want some hugs, feel free to ask him, he's always ready to help you out however he can. 

Engineer : 

Since he's very well-read, he already knows about BPD, so he always checks if you're feeling alright. He really enjoys your company and encourages you to come by and hang out with him at his workshop. If you're going into town, he'll ask to tag along with you. He knows that impulse buying can be a struggle for you sometimes, so if you allow it, he'll come with you to ensure that you don't do it. Feeling down? Engie will be right with you, holding you in a big warm embrace. He always reminds you that if you ever want to talk to someone, he'll lend a listening ear.. and more hugs. 

Medic : 

Well, being a doctor, he's very knowledgeable about BPD and other disorders. If you want, he's more than happy to be your (unlicensed) therapist and give you advice on how to calm yourself down when you're overwhelmed by your feelings. He doesn't mind if you want to stick around with him, he's just a bit worried that you might be uncomfortable due to all the blood and organs he works with. He made you a little 'comfort corner' as he calls it in his lab for you. It's got pillows, blankets, your favourite books and a small radio. If you're being hard on yourself, he'll write and give you a 10 page essay on how wonderful you are so that you can read it again if you're feeling down. 

Sniper : 

You and him both love nature and quiet. Whenever you can, you two will drive out to a nearby forest and sit outside his van on foldable chairs with drinks, just enjoying the view. He doesn't always know how to help you with BPD, but he knows that you enjoy your little quiet outings with him so that's what he does. If you're going through a rough time, he'll give you a very uncharacteristic hug and say to you, "Mate. I'm here for you, alright? I'll listen to you and help you however I can." He always bottles up his emotions and he knows how much it hurts to do that, so he really doesn’t want you to do the same. He’ll give you all the support you need that he never got. Even though he’s very much not the type of person that likes hugs and whatnot, if getting one makes you feel better, then alright. 

Spy : 

He helps you however he can. Most of the time though, he buys you things to boost your mood such as your favourite food, little trinkets he thinks you’ll like and anything else you’ve shown interest in. He doesn’t really understand why you’re attached to him, he doesn’t think he’s much fun to be around, but sure, whatever makes you happy is alright to him. (He’s actually happy that you like being around him.) If you’re upset, he’ll approach you with your favourite drink and a glass of wine and sit down with you. Talking is optional, he hopes that during that time, you’ll open up to him and vent your frustrations so you’ll feel calmer. He always reminds you that if there’s anything he can do to support you, just tell him and he’ll do it.

Even someone as skilled as Leon needs help every now and then. Like now, when he’s struggling with this one damn zombie. It’s a moment later before Leon realizes what had happened. Blood splattered across his face tells him that someone had shot the zombie. It drops to the ground and Leon makes a scoff o0f disgust, bringing his hand up to wipe away the blood with the back of his hands before blue eyes find Irving.

Next, there’s a chuckle of amusement from Leon. “Let’s get out of this alive and then we’ll talk about dinner, yeah?” He drops his hand, only to put another clip in his gun - something he couldn’t do struggling with a zombie.

“What’s your name? You really shouldn’t be out here.”

Mm, yes, you know a fandom has latched into my brain when the inevitable “but what would their P4-style Shadows/Personas be?” question wafts into my brainmeats.

Which means, welcome to Yu-Gi-Oh Persona Hell, in which my brain decides, if Yugi was tossed into the TV World with the Millennium Puzzle, the result would be both he and Atem (who suddenly has a body because Weird Shadow Bullshit(tm)) both get to face their Shadows!

Yugi handles it shockingly well, because he’s self-reflective enough to know he’s a bubbling mass of suppressed rage and hurt under the surface.  His Shadow is borderline feral with rage in a very “we’re tired of being nice, we wanna go apeshit” kinda way, and Yugi is like... “yeah, pretty much.”  Because he is angry.  He’s pissed about how he’s been treated by his peers.  He’s pissed how people treat his friends (e.g. lookin’ at you, Jounouchi’s dad).  He’s pissed there are people who look at the unfairness of the world and go “that’s just how it is” and do nothing, or worse, use it to justify being shitty.

But Yugi’s also like, “but that’s what’s kept me going.  That’s what drives me to be a kinder person.  Someone has to take the first step to making things better, and it might as well be me.”  And his Shadow never goes Full Blown Symbolic Horrorterror(tm) as a result.

Atem’s experience?  ... not as peaceful.  He is a writhing mass of insecurity under the surface and the lack of firm identity makes it 500 times worse.  His Shadow looks like he was as a Pharaoh, but... constantly shifting, like multiple layers of a picture being moved in and out of place all at once, like it has anime afterimages even when it’s standing perfectly still, speaking with multiple out of tune voices,  like the voices of the people sacrificed to make the Millennium Items are trying to speak with it in an out-of-sync chorus.

Poor Atem, he can’t deny or accept his Shadow, because who is he, really?????  Is the past he’s forgotten one as horrible as the literally ill-defined Shadow is making it out to be?  Is it lying?  He doesn’t know, he can’t possibly know, and he just... kinda breaks down trying to sort it out and that waffling does make his Shadow go Full Blown Symbolic Horrorterror(tm).

Congrats, Atem!  Your Full Blown Symbolic Horrorterror(tm) Shadow is a big outline of you!!!!  WIth a hole where your face is!!!  And where your heart is!!!!  And swirling, howling, shifting forms of the people sacrificed to make the Millennium Items rising and falling like waves about it!!!!!  Mostly likely all adorned with gold decorations!!!  \8D/

Good thing the others are probably not to far behind to protect you from it, Atem, plus Yugi 100% accepts his Shadow and pleads with it to help him help you.

Yugi’s new Persona, by the way, is 100% Agi-based, i.e. fire-elemental.  Because.  Y’know.  There was a lot of people being set on fire in the early days of the manga.  Lolol.  Want to say it’s Anubis, because further lolol, but will do research later.  Yugi is 100% the squishy wizard type, too, and possibly a navigator-type.

If Atem can ever resolve things with his Shadow, I don’t know what the resulting Persona’s name would be, but it’s 100% dark attribute.  Because also lolol Yami.

Have not sorted out anyone else’s stuff, aside from Seto’s Full Blown Symbolic Horrorterror(tm) Shadow would be a horrible skeletal dragon with a puppet-like version o0f him dangling from a string on his arm and a collar and leash around his neck connected to the rib-bones, while puppet-him clutches a doll that suspiciously looks like Mokuba protectively with its free arm, and the resulring Persona (which would take FOR-FUCKING-EVER to happen because Seto is in denial of any weakness) would be light-element, because lol dark attribute’s weakness and weak to dark itself.

Also, one last note: Atem does get spit out of the TV world after being rescued still with a body.  It.  Takes getting used to.  Grandpa Muto is surprised but takes it in stride; he grandson gets caught up in the weirdest things sometimes.

... and I’m dome for now.  Hi, Persona 4 had a really fucking cool concept for character-building in Shadows and Personas.
