I went and saw a two-hour play version of Lord of the Rings today* (yeah, the entire Lord of the Rings trilogy). this not surprisingly sent me on a several-hour long lotr rabbithole, which involved rewatching the documentary about Howard Shore’s score.**
and gah it reminded me of how much I love the films and specifically the score. All my favorite scenes-- Arwen's vision, Faramir's doomed last stand, Theoden arming  before Helm’s Deep-- I love for the score. The score illuminates these scenes, lights them up until they blaze the way really good poetry does. Maybe it’s just how I feel about music. but oh, there’s something about these scenes that always gets me.
And now pulling up those clips on youtube for you all has made me cry (because obviously I had to watch them. couldn’t just attach the links.)
the score makes a great scene into an unforgettable one. and makes extremely mediocre movies (cough, the hobbit) into good ones. for me, a really good score does most of the legwork for establishing, hmmm, the characterizations and the emotional weight that may not be conveyed very well by the narrative? Objectively, the plot and the writing may have barely established the character, or failed to give the climactic battle a real stake, or just be really terrible writing that makes you wince. But as long as the score is good enough, as long as I hear the music I believe utterly in what it’s telling me.
like, in the star wars sequel trilogy, the writing is respectfully hot garbage. but the score makes me believe that Kylo Ren is actually a tragic hero, for as long as I’m suspended in that golden bubble of sound. The magic of John Williams can do that.
that's the one thing that makes me really sad about the new Lord of the Rings show, you know? the elf hair (or lack thereof) and the narrative choices pain me deeply. but to be honest I can handle it. I lived though the Hobbit, didn’t I?
But without the score, it's just a pretty but soulless big-budget fantasy series. I heard the score for the new teaser trailer and it was empty. It was just as meaningless as the score for whatever superhero blockbuster they churn out monthly. It was dead.
and that's a tragedy.
*it was wonderful. showstopping. fantastic. talking about it would be its own post but let me just say they not only had Tom Bombadil, they had him sing a funny little tune to the melody of “Margaritaville.” Peak theater.
**if possible, even more showstopping and fantastic. I was absolutely obsessed with the score when I was fourteen with the fiery passion of ten thousand suns. chain piano my beloved...

Trailer thoughts?
I'm not going to get into an indepth analysis like I did the first trailer, and I am going to try and keep this as spoiler-free (beyond info in the trailer) as possible. And I'll do it bullet-point style.
At first I was super obsessed and loving it. I mean, the trailer was really fantastic and shot very well. I even started writing this huggeeeeee post about my guesses about the entirety of the second film's plot (which is still sitting in my drafts).
Then someone linked to me a leak on Reddit, and like an idiot, I opened it. I immediately regretted it because I thought it'd be like, just a scene or two. Nope, this mo-fo leaked an *entire late December/early Jan screening scene by scene*. I then got super depressed because I wasn't happy with some of the directions taken in that leak. That's all I'll say on that. Unfortunately the second trailer gave credence to the leaks that were posted a month before the second trailer. :/
Then I realized that this is probably why there's so much rumor of reshoots and refining even with the movie only three months away (closer to two, now). I wonder if other people were a bit "meh" about some parts of it as well.
I want to know who I need to bribe to get invited into a test screening so I can dish out some nerdy film critique. I'm in LA! They run test screenings here all the damn time! Who do I need to bribe??? They're probably test screening with like, crew members or something who knows. But I can 100% hold an NDA. I'm still under NDA for an entertainment-industry-related item I signed back in Jan of 2020 for instance XD LET ME SEE IT MARVEL PLEASE. As a writer, artist, and Stephen stan I can offer SUCH GOOD critique I promise. Especially if I can take notes during the film, I'd forget half my critique otherwise. (If it was Derrickson, I'd try to find him in a local coffee shop and buy him a coffee, but alas, he's not the director anymore. QQ.)
Tangent done. Back to the trailer. Eventually I figured, ah, fuck it, even if they completely ruin a couple characters, at least Benedict's gonna be amazing. He knows the character well enough that I don't see him doing something grossly out of character. Hopefully.
So now I'm in a "eh I'm not gonna get my hopes up due to these stupid leaks but at least the visuals will be nice and I'll have more Strange content". So in a better place than where I am with the LOTR TV show coming up (which is No Hopes At All That That Will Be Good), but more in a Michelle Jones "expect to be disappointed" so I can be pleasantly surprised if they don't go with some of the twists the leak said. I don't want to build up my hype and get massively let down like I was with Endgame (and on a larger note, the Hobbit, which was sort of one of my catalysts to drift away from the Tolkien fandom).
I'm just trying to keep my expectations more on the neutral side at this point of time.
Also highly, highly recommend that fans avoid these huge Reddit leaks if they're invested in the film. It really killed my mojo for a few days. It's less fun than you think it would be :/

Okay, apparently I suffer from obsessive Not Me disorder 😶, so I checked out both trailers (the official trailer and the teaser from a year ago). And one of the things that struck me is Gram’s hair. In the teaser, it’s still black (as is Mond’s natural hair colour), but obviously he now has the bleached hair look. After getting to know P’Nuchie, the project as a whole and the source novel a bit, I find it very unlikely that this was solely done for aesthetic purposes, to give Gram “a certain vibe.” So, I wondered: what do you think about this?
I have a little theory about this myself. In your analysis, you emphasised that Gram essentially complements something in Black. Something that’s probably been missing ever since White left. And I think Gram’s hair might be symbolic of this. Bear with me. In order to understand this, I think it’s best to let go of conventional (Western) colour theories of black and white, in which black (night, darkness) is inherently evil/ corrupted/ dangerous and white (day, light) is holy/ pure/ safe. (cf.: Gandalf’s vs. Sauroman’s beards in the LotR films). Rather, I think this is more of a yin and yang situation in which two opposites (from dramatic purposes two binary opposites) complement each other. Without the mandatory moral implications of “who’s good and who’s bad.” I am not at all an expert in Taoism apart from surface level, so I won’t go into detail. But I think especially with Black and Gram, this theory could apply. Not to say Gram’s character isn’t else beyond “Black’s other half,” but within the context of Black the dichotomy seems almost too on the nose to ignore. 😌 Which make me think the hair colour was a very conscious choice, within the plot. What made Gram himself decide to dye his hair, is something we hopefully will find out down the line.
Anyways, that was my little theory on the symbolism of colour. I hope you can appreciate it.
Kind regards,
— Thel. 💚
OOoh Hi Thel, that's an interesting observation. I know in the book that Gram also has blonde hair so I thought Mond made his hair look similar to his book archetype while Off chose not to. But I like your colour theory and the idea about the dichotomy of the colors Black and White associated with Gram and Black. In the show the idea of binary opposites as theme is used a lot between most of the couples so this might be also one. Especially the use of Yin and Yang, it's literally finding balance both people in a couple requires, so it makes sense that two extreme sides meld together to form that stability.
Thank you for letting me know your theory, it's so cool you noticed it, you're not the only one with NM obsession, I feel so sad today like there's a void just because it's not Sunday and it feels long to wait, when it's literally 2 days away.
Let me know about any more observations you see from the trailers :)

What do you think about the sudden influx of openly expressed racism in the Tolkien and broader fantasy fandoms following the start of press for Amazon’s new Middle Earth show?
When i saw that there was a new trailer for something coming up in Tolkien-inspired works (that I haven't seen, since I'll admit I am SOMEWHAT pessimistic about them not really understanding Tolkien's themes and I worry a lot about them trying to make something tonally more similar to Game Of Thrones and other grimdark series because its popular, and LOTR functions interestingly as a sort of unbuilt trope directly countering all that) I had wondered what some of the fandom response to it might be.
I'm sad to hear that its apparently a wave of bigotry and racism being revealed in the fantasy and Tolkien-specific fandoms! Like, REALLY sad and disappointed. But at the same time, I'm honestly not surprised.
It's the vocal part of the same people who routinely seem to throw a fit whenever diversity, broader thought and any kind of 'hey maybe we sohuld make this a little more nuanced' shows up in fantasy in general. These are the people who just LOSE THEIR MINDS and its just.
It's really GODDAMNED ANNOYING seeing these troglodytes still in the hobby! And that's an insult to the concept of troglodytes. The morlocks didn't do anything to be associated with these reprobates.
I'd be lying, of course, if I tried to pretend the fantasy community in general hasn't had a problem with people like this for a long, LONG time. They're always present, mostly at the margins, and being the loudest voices of complaint. They also seem uniquely ill suited towards an environment like LOTR (which is actually rather interesting in a lot of ways such as positing humans being inherently flawed in a lot of ways that are ultimately self destructive in the grand scheme of themes, and a somewhat gloomy motif of 'things will gradually decline' in ways that outright oppose the power fantasy people like this obsess over).
I'm reminded of how for a while on Youtube, I kept seeing recommmends for a backwards-sounding channel that kept complaining about a player that was annoyed with orcs being portrayed as mindless beasts and didn't like killing them, and similar things during that period where you kept seeing the worst of the roleplaying hobby throwing a fit over the growth of nuance in the settings so you got things like 'orcs are not mindless beasts' and 'the humanoid beings are not universally Good people' so you got the weird experience of people being mad about there being MORE nuance, but that all says something about them. at worst this is blatant bigotry being shown through metaphor. At best they're whining about their hobby not being simplistic.
So broadly I'm really disappointed to hear about this initial response but again, I'm not surprised that its THAT stripe of fandom being loud and annoying about it.
Ironically the first i heard about this Tolkien stuff was people praising a female dwarf portrayed by a POC actress, and the thing they complained about? They missed Tolkien lore and stated that a female dwarf SHOULD have a beard! "THEY GOT SO CLOSE AND MISSED IT AT THE LAST STEP", essentially. And there's something to be said about the producers trying to be inclusive and diverse, but ultimately shying away from showing non-traditional feminity. I would say that it could also be seen as the creative types here missing what distinguishes LOTR from its imitators and those that were inspired by it (where dwarf women like this are pretty common, like Dragon Age).
I guess this means I'm curating my experience pretty well that I'm not seeing the worst of it! I think its likely that its always there, waiting for an opportunity to jump and expose the terrible opinions beneath the surface. Tragic and a sickening thing but thats why it behooves one to fight it as much as possible!

I know I'm a day late on the 20th anniversary of this film, oh well. 20 years ago, on the 18th I was so excited. I already had my tickets and all the plans laid to go see this film. I was so obsessed with LOTR. I had, at the time, read the book 5 times and was more excited about this movie than I was for my own wedding coming up in 2002. My poor husband.
On the 18th, at work, I heard on the radio that some theater was doing a midnight showing. In my area of Texas, this was the first midnight showing ever. I'd never been to a midnight release of anything or even heard of one. But! I'd missed which theater it was. I called up my husband and our best friend and we began calling local theaters. No, there was no way to look it up. We had to call and listen to the recordings of movie showings. Finally, our best friend found it and bought tickets. The theater was an hour away.
After work, we met up at my parents' house and hung out until about 830. Literally, even waiting until 830 and driving an hour, we were the first three people in line for the movie. We were the first 3 people in the theater. (The hysterical part was that the next person to arrive looked at this entirely empty theater with 297 available seats and sat right next to us. Like right next to us. We almost died laughing.)
Then the movie started.
My husband told me later that everyone in the theater heard me cry through the whole thing. I brought an entire roll of toilet paper and didn't care.
I saw this movie 7 times in the theater. My highest record. When the trailer for the Two Towers was tacked on the end, I started sneaking into the movie just to catch it. (My husband worked at the theater at the time and would let me in.)
I still love this film. I can quote every line. The extended edition is a million times better than the theater release. I'm so thankful it came out before all the CGI stuff. It has held up pretty well over the years. I also feel extremely old.

Your blog has me interested in Dune, but idk how to get into it. Do I read the books? How many are there? Are there like cycles and you have to start with a very specific one, but you also have to skip the 5th and go back to it after reading the 11th? Is there a TV show or just movies? Dune's a big universe and I don't remember how to get into those! How did I go from being a person to knowing everything about LotR and SW? I don't remember. SF universes are oceans and idk how to make a raft.
Hehe you’re right! But i think Dune is waaaay less complicated than major franchises like LotR, SW or Star Trek, to name a few. So here’s what you need to know:
Books (in order):
-Dune (1965): a classic. It’s the beginning of the story and the most famous book of the saga!
-Dune Messiah: sequel of the first Dune, it’s very short and it’s almost like a part 2 of Dune
-Children of Dune: a personal favorite, it’s the last one of the “Paul Atreides part” of the story
-God-Emperor of Dune: this is when things start to get WEIRD. Not a fave of mine but it’s essential (well, all of them are). It’s very different from the first three as it sets the ground for the second part of the series.
-Heretics of Dune: the book i’m reading rn, i’m loving it a lot!!!!!!!! This book is more about the major factions of the story battling for dominance
-Chapterhouse: Dune: last one of the series, i don’t know much about it but i know it ends with a huge cliffhanger and the author died before he could complete the series
Now. Frank Herbert has a son, Brian Herbert, who took over the series and wrote DOZENS of books based on “”””””””””notes”””””””””””” left by his father, his books are definitely optional and many fans dislike them, i read a summary of the sequels he wrote and i’ve decided not to read them lol.
ADAPTATIONS!!!!
-Dune (1984) dir. by David Lynch: this is the movie adaptation of the first novel. Listen. LISTEN. You can like this movie only if 1) you watched it as a kid and didn’t care about how ugly it is because it’s a “”cult”” full of nostalgia or whatever 2) you watched it while you were high. I forced myself to watch two hours of absolute NONSENSE, this movie is not even bad in a funny way, it’s just. Horrifying. I recommend it only if you like ridiculous high budget movies from the 80s. Even David Lynch hates it. The only good thing is probably Sting in metal pants. and Kyle MacLachan’s performance (you can tell he loved Paul). Oh and Lady Jessica looks beautiful as always :)))
-Dune miniseries (2001 i think?): there are two miniseries of Dune for a total of (i think) six or nine episodes maybe? maybe less idk, i started the first one but never finished it due to school work but i will!! These miniseries cover the first three books of the series, the special effects are really bad but i was told they are pretty accurate to the books. the only thing i can say is that Paul is completely inaccurate to me, the actor doesn’t look 15 and doesn’t resemble the character to the slightest, and from what i’ve seen he acts too cocky to be Paul. Let’s just say the original Paul gives huge goth vibes, while in the miniseries he gave me Chad vibes lol. Oh and the Children of Dune miniseries features Susana Sarandon and a young James McAvoy!
-Upcoming Dune movie (2021 sigh) dir. Denis Villeneuve: this is the reason many people are obsessing over Dune in 2020! This movie will adapt the FIRST PART of the first novel, so, again, Paul is the main character. The cast features HUGE names such as Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Jason Momoa, Stellan Skarsgaard, Dave Bautista, Zendaya, Josh Brolin and many more! Denis Villeneuve is a die hard fan of the books and making a Dune movie was his dream so yeah i’m very optimistic we won’t be disappointed! The cast could have been a little more inclusive and there are other flaws, tho. It’s important to aknowledge it. There’s a trailer for the movie if you’re interested. Sadly the movie was delayed to october 2021 (it was supposed to come out on December)
Not to mention there are also comics and games but i don’t know much about them! Hope this helped!

March 7, 2021: Onward (2020) (Part One)
Finding Nemo.
Tumblr media
That’s my favorite Pixar film. Real talk, no arguments, and today’s movie? NOT dethroning it. This movie is so hard-wired into my brain, that the second I typed the words of the title, the theme song ran through my head, where it lives rent-free. It will be a cold day when I don’t find an excuse to shout “NEMOOOO!!!! I HAVE TO FIND MY SON!!” at any opportune moment. I will never stop swimming. Whenever I catch a Chinchou or Lanturn in a Pokémon game, I name it “Goodfeeling’sgone”.
SHARK BAIT OOH HA HA
Tumblr media
YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND THE DEPTHS OF MY LOVE FOR THIS MOVIE.
...Ahem. So, yeah, I love FInding Nemo. For the record, the sequel ain’t bad. And also for the record, there’s only one Pixar movie that I consider to be bad, and it’s the one you’d think. You know, the one about ageism. The one where somebody dies by torture? The bad spy movie?
...the second one about cars?
Tumblr media
Which means, YES. I DON’T THINK The Good Dinosaur IS THAT BAD! Not exactly good, but its gorgeous, and just kinda boring, not outright terrible. That Styracosaurus, though...that dude is great.
Anyway, off of Pixar for a sec, huh? What about fantasy? I’m a big tabletop RPG nerd, and I’m currently the GM for a Pathfinder campaign, a Pokémon RPG, and a Mutants and Masterminds game, while also playing in a Pathfinder game as well. Yeah, I’m a busy dewd. But what I’m saying is, this movie should be preaching to the choir for me. I’m a Pixar lover who plays RPGs. I’m ready for this. I’m ready for CGI Bright. Which is another way of saying, I’m ready for a version of Bright that doesn’t suck.
Tumblr media
So, why haven’t I seen it until now? I mean...COVID-19. This film got FUCKED. But, no matter! It’s on Disney Plus, I’ve got Disney Plus, so let’s get this baby STARTED! Let’s get updated on some Pixar! SPOILERS AHEAD!!!
Recap (1/2)
OK, immediately digging the soundtrack over the Disney logo as we jump in here! Very ethereal, very fantasy, very LotR, I LIKE it, I LIKE it! And then...long ago, the world was full of wonder!
Tumblr media
We get a view of the world of olde, with magic and many mystical, mythical creatures living together and adventuring. However, as magic wasn’t the easiest thing in the world to use, it eventually gave way to technology, fading away in a world now very similar to ours.
Tumblr media
Basically, it’s about the same as our world, except for a few different races, and the fact that dragons are basically dogs, and unicorns are basically raccoons, which is fuckin’ fantastic.
Tumblr media
We enter the home of teenage elf Ian Lightfoot (Tom Holland) and introverted now-16-year-old who lives with his mother, Laurel (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) and his older brother Barley (Chris Pratt). Barley’s a tabletop RPG nerd who’s also a fan of the magical past. Said obsessions cause a strain on his relationship with Ian, and with that of his mother’s boyfriend, centaur policeman Colt Bronco (Mel Rodriguez).
After a discussion about Barley’s recent attempt to protect an old magical monument from destruction, he accidentally damages the sweatshirt that Ian is wearing, which was owned by their late father, Wilder. Ian rushes out, flustered, despite Barley’s attempts to bond with him. Well, looks like we have a sense of the plot for this one.
Tumblr media
On his way to school, Barley stops to get some food when he meets Gaxton (Wilmer Valderrama), an old college friend of his father’s. From Gaxton, he learns things about his father that he never knew, like that he was bold and standout. From there, Barely pledges to try and be more self-confident, like his father.
Whiiiiiiich, doesn’t exactly work once he gets to school. He fails to stand-up to a jerky guy at school, he fails in his driving class, and he fails to ask other high school kids to his birthday party. But to be fair, Barley helps a bit with that last one when he shows up with Guinevere, his busted-ass van with a unicorn painted on the side. Which is supposed to be uncool...but I kinda dig it, not gonna lie.
Tumblr media
After that, Ian completely flubs the invitation bit, confusing the people he was talking to, and disappointing himself in the process. He gets a ride home with Barley, and goes home to talk to a tape recording of his dad. Which is...beautifully sad, and somehow very easy to identify with. So, yeah, it’s gonna be that kind of Pixar movie.
Ian talks to his mom about his father at his age, asking if he was ever unsure. She says yes, but couples this with a surprise: a gift from his late father, who died of a terminal illness shortly after Ian’s birth. The gift is for both Ian and Barley, and was meant to be opened when they were both over 16.
Tumblr media
She gets it from the attic, and they unwrap it, where it’s revealed to be a wizard’s staff. Which is weird, because Wilder was an accountant. In a pocket of the wrapping cloth, there’s a letter written by Wilder with the narration from the beginning of the film (that “Long ago” bit).
Also included is a spell, written by Wilder so that he could see who his sons grew up to be. This “Visitation Spell” would appear to be a way to bring Wilder back for 24 hours. Barley, being the magic-lover that he is, tries multiple times to cast the spell with the staff, but fails to do so, much to his and Ian’s great disappointment.
Tumblr media
However, when Ian tries to read the spell out of curiosity later, the staff begins to react, and the spell begins to work. Barley comes in as this is happening, and the spell works...halfway. It starts to fail, and Barley offers to help, but Ian pulls the staff away, and the spell stops as the Phoenix crystal inside it shatters.
Looks like another bust, but it’s not a complete failure. And if you’ve seen literally any trailer for this movie, you know what happens.
Tumblr media
Although it’s just his legs and feet, it’s still Wilden Lightfoot (Kyle Bornheimer...technically). The boys decide to try and complete the spell, but need another Phoenix Gem to do so. According to Barley’s “historically accurate” TTRPG, Quests of Lore, they will be able to find one by accepting a quest from the place where all quests start: the Manticore’s Tavern. And so, the quest begins!
The brothers and their half-dad board Guinevere and drive to the Manticore’s Tavern. On the way, Barley convinces Ian to practice some spells from the games rulebook, but they don’t work because Ian’s not invoking his passion (or his “heart’s fire”, as Barley calls it). Meanwhile, Laurel figures out where they’re headed, but doesn’t know exactly why...yet.
Tumblr media
After the journey, they make it to the Manticore’s Tavern, which is now essentially a themed Chuck E. Cheese’s restaurant, owned and managed by Corey (Octavia Spencer), a very overworked manticore. Which is pretty great, not gonna lie.
They try to get the actual map to the Phoenix’s Gem from her in order to conjure their Dad, but she no longer sends adventurers on dangerous quests, mostly because she doesn’t want to get sued by any injured adventurers. When Ian argues with her about this, she IMMEDIATELY DIVES INTO AN EXISTENTIAL CRISIS/MID LIFE CRISIS!
Tumblr media
It’s, uh...it’s kind of amazing. Having completely lost it at this point, she basically tears down the entire building with her bare hands and fire-breath. Unfortunately, the map to the Phoenix Gem is burnt in the process of Corey’s literal meltdown. However, as Wilden’s about to be crushed by a couple of falling beams, Ian taps into his heart’s fire.
Tumblr media
Nice. They get out of there, and head out for the Gem, using a child’s placemat replica of the real map to make their way to a place called Raven’s Point. However, rather than just follow the goddamn map, Barley decides to go on much more dangerous road known as the “Path of Peril”, once again following the “call of adventure” and his gut.
Which...yeah, Barley’s not really considering the reality of this whole situation, which fits his personality. He’s a dreamer, despite the rational and reasonable solution in front of him. And, in case you weren’t sure, I’m pretty sure that isn’t a good thing.
Tumblr media
Ian points out the correct point that what actually matters is that they send enough time with their father, and they do indeed take the straightforward path. Good! Barley listened to Ian’s suggestion after all. However, they hit another snag when the car breaks down, completely out of gas. Problem.
Meanwhile, Laurel makes her way to the Manticore’s place, only to find it on fire! She meets Corey, who tells her that she’s met her boys, and told them about everything...except the curse. Also, there’s a curse. Laurel, who is the best movie Mom ever, tricks a policeman interviewing Corey to diverting his attention away from her, and smuggles her into her car to help find (and maybe rescue) her sons.
Tumblr media
Stuck off the freeway without gas, a desperate Ian asks Barley if there are any spells that can get them more gas. They concoct a plan involving a shrinking and growing spell, but that immediately goes wrong as Barley tries to instruct Ian, only frustrating him further, and causing him to fumble the spell and hit Barley with it, making him tiny.
They decide to head to a gas station, where a group of pixie bikers has just arrived. This backfires when Barley, lacking basically any common sense, ends up insulting the biker leader, Dewdrop (Grey Griffin) and her ancestors. Nice one, Barley. As they escape from the pissed off pixies, the tiny Barley is unable to drive, forcing the driver’s anxiety-riddled Ian to drive, overcoming his fears from earlier by force, being chased by the pixies all the way. It’s a pretty good sequence, to be honest.
youtube
Well, they escape the Pixies...but not the cops. And I think that’ll be a good place to pick up in the next part! See you there!

hi I just read all your latest posts about trailers and I loved it! I was totally obsessed with them as a kid too I felt like they were extra short films before the actual film and it was such a LOSS to be late. I used to have some of my faves saved on my hard drives but I lost them years ago. I especially remember this one trailer for all LOTR movies from ~2006 not sure if it was a fan trailer or a pro trailer for extended dvds but it was ~5min long and SO GOOD but I can't find it anymore.
hello!!! thank you, and omg i remember that long trailer!!!! i think i might even have it as a special feature on my lot extended edition DVD set!! i’ll have a look later! but yeah I very much, even now, become a bratty child when I miss trailers but I ALSO HATE how many normal ads they play before movies now??? also maybe its just an Australian thing but they’ve started playing tv trailers in cinemas now and its SO WEIRD? like if I am not going  to be able to see it in a cinema, why show me the trailer in one??? x

So like I’m not a lotr fan and while I enjoyed the Hobbit movies I’ve only watched them a couple times because my sister is obsessed but I still like… feel mad about this new show because of all the posts and shit I’m seeing. I watched the trailer like hmmm this looks interesting I guess? And immediately upon seeing anything about it was like “yeah no they’ve ruined everything 🙄”

@blackbetha  1, 2, 4, 12 💖💖
Thank you !! ♥♥♥

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Which GoT character do you personally relate to?
Oh Hanni this one is hard!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hmmm...
I dont feel “identified” per se with any particular character and I can relate in bits and pieces to many at one point or another. Arya, Jaime, Catelyn, they all strike a huge chord in me. I feel Ygritte a lot as well. I wish I could be in her head and see what she thinks and feels. And I feel a strong Tyrell connection in the sense that I grew up in a household with lots of inspiring, awesome, cultured, wise women while the men have all been... less than stellar let’s say. Lady Olenna could be my granny that’s all I’m saying.
Stepping outside of myself to get some perspective is hard, but I thought about this before and asked and I’ve been told by several ppl that if they had to pick just one Got character to relate to me, it would be Catelyn. I’d have probably picked her as well. That was Mr. Tir’s answer too whenever I asked (cause it had crossed my mind before) till this year. I asked him today again, about an hour ago. And his answered surprised me: He said, “Season 8 Sansa. I can see so much of her in you.” And that left me grinning stupidly idk why cause I love Catelyn so much but :D
2. Which GoT character do you love to hate?
Victarion. He’s just so damn funny, unintentionally so. Euron. Because he creeps and disgusts the hell out of me and at the same time I wanna read more and more and i want him to end horribly. Joffrey! obvs. cause he’s just so deliciously detestable book and show.
4. When did you first get into GoT/ASoIAF?
When the first season had just finished. Mr Tir came home saying there was this medieval show with Sean Bean, knowing that as a lotr fan that would spark my interest and we watched the trailer and I said, “sure! let’s give it a go”. I clearly remember watching the first episode and really liking it but... when Jaime throws Bran of a window saying “the things I do for love”, that’s when I knew. That’s when I fell in love. Powered through the whole thing in a week. Bought all the books and devoured them and then waited what I thought lol was a long time for ADWD and then... here we are. Still obsessed. Still waiting. To get some closure in this story that stole away my heart.
12. What would your choice for a GoT prequel/sequel be?
My choice would be a spinoff! The adventures of Jaime Lannister and Brienne of Tarth, of course! :P
Another one with Arya as an assassin making her way back home from Essos, getting a rag tag “pack” around her and going mission impossible style...
I also wanna know what REALLY happened in the age of heroes like Lann the clever and Bran the builder and all that. Or I’d really like one that does the whole voyage of princess Nymeria. Or perhaps a short horror one with the oily black stone driving everyone crazy in Asshai or something like that

92 TRUTHS - tagging @justaboywithaonemanshow @givemeedplzfanks @edandanniina
THE LAST…
1) Drink: Forest fruit squash. 2) Phone call: My mom. 3) Text message: A friend from uni. She asked me to proof-read her thesis. 4) Song you listened to: I’m A Mess. I’m rewatching Glastonbury. 5) Time you cried: Friday, when I had my mental breakdown. Good news though, I get until the end of August to finish my thesis!
HAVE YOU EVER…
6) Dated someone twice: Nope. My current boyfriend is my first boyfriend ever. 7) Been cheated on: No. 8) Kissed someone and regretted it: No. 9) Lost someone special: I mean, a lot of family members and family friends. But is it bad if I say the worst ‘someone’ that I lost was my previous dog…? I never knew two of my grandparents and I lost one when I was 3 and the last one when I was 7. I feel like I never got to form a bond with them. And I wasn’t very close with the other people that I lost. 10) Been depressed: Never had the official diagnosis, but came close to it. People have been wanting to put me on antidepressants probably since I was 16 – but I have always refused. Let’s just say I have a lot of problems and have been in therapy on and off for 13 years now. It’s a long story. 11) Gotten drunk and thrown up: Nope, I don’t drink. 😊
LIST THREE FAVORITE COLORS…
12) Blue. 13) Yellow. 14) Red.
IN THE LAST YEAR HAVE YOU…
15) Made new friends: In RL, not really. On Tumblr? Hell yes! 16) Fallen out of love: No. 17) Laughed until you cried: Yes. My boyfriend will sometimes make me laugh till a point where I basically can’t stop laughing and start crying. Fun times. 18) Found out someone was talking about you: Like, behind my back? Probably. 19) Met someone who changed you: Does discovering Ed count? 20) Found out who your true friends are: Yes. I’ve basically isolated myself socially in the past few years. The people that still check on my even though I don’t check on them (I know, I should…), those are my true friends. 21) Kissed someone on your Facebook list: Well, I’m friends with my boyfriend, so yes.
OTHER…
22) How many of your Facebook friends do you know in real life?: I don’t see everyone regularly, but I met all of them at least once in RL before I added them. 23) Do you have any pets?: A dog and a cat. 😊 24) Do you want to change your name?: My last name, sometimes. No one ever gets it right. I guess marriage may fix that one day though, lol. 25) What did you do for your last birthday?: Make a Tumblr, LOL. 26) What time do you wake up?: Sometimes I wake up at 7:15 AM, sometimes I wake up at 4:00 PM… My sleep schedule has been all over the place lately. It’s messed up. If I had nothing to do I would probably sleep from 2 AM until 12 PM. 27) What were you doing at midnight last night?: Watching a Supernatural episode with my boyfriend (over Skype, because LDR). 28) Name something you cannot wait for: The day that this freaking thesis is finished!! 29) When was the last time you saw your mother?: Monday morning when I left for uni. I’ll see her again tomorrow when I go back home for the weekend. 30) What is one thing you wish you could change about your life?: My mental health? 31) What are you listening to right now?: Nancy Mulligan (still watching Glastonbury). 32) Have you ever talked to a person named Tom?: No actually? I know a Tim. And a billion Thomases. But no Tom. 33) Something that is getting on your nerves: My thesis. 34) Most visited website?: Facebook? Though maybe now Tumblr… 35) Elementary: Not that great. I got bullied a lot. Didn’t have many friends. Other than that alright, I guess? 36) High School: Okay. Bullying turned into ignoring me. Still didn’t have many friends. But these were the years that I discovered my love for languages and strangely enough I really enjoyed high school. 37) University: Still enrolled at the moment. Hoping to finish my Master’s degree in translation this year. 38) Hair color: Brunette. 39) Long or short hair?: Very long. 40) Do you have a crush on someone?: My boyfriend. And Ed, of course. 41) What do you like about yourself?: That’s a difficult question that I can’t really answer at the moment… 42) Piercings?: None, not even earrings. 43) Blood type?: No clue… Probably should find that out at some point. 44) Nickname?: MG on here. 😂 I don’t really have a nickname in RL. My mom calls me Josephine sometimes, which has nothing to do with my name. 45) Relationship status?: I have a boyfriend. 46) Zodiac sign?: Gemini. 47) Pronouns: She/her. 48) Favorite TV show: I used to watch SO MANY TV shows. Back when I was in high school I would watch 12 at the same time (like, as the episodes came out). For the past 2, 3 (?) years I have sort of stopped myself from watching TV shows. Because I get obsessed with things. Like with Ed right now lol. I will still occasionally watch an episode (like last night), but I’m really behind on everything. My enthusiasm for TV shows is probably what led to me studying English in the end. And Supernatural was the common interest that matched my boyfriend and I. 😊  49) Tattoos: None. 50) Right or left hand?: Right hand, though I can write with my left hand if I have to. But I don’t consider myself ambidextrous.
FIRST…
51) Surgery: Does a lumbar puncture (spinal tap) count? Probably not. Felt like one though. I have a medical phobia and about a year ago they suspected meningitis, so I had to have one. One of the most traumatic experiences I have had. They had to sedate me because I was so panicked. The whole hospital must’ve heard me scream and I pushed a doctor away (not on purpose, but if I’m yelling “STAY AWAY FROM ME” in your face and you approach me with a weird object that looked like something they were going to do the puncture with, well…) So they ended up sedating me and luckily I don’t remember a thing from the procedure itself. But they must have hit something, because my legs were numb and I couldn’t feel whether my bladder was full or not for like a week after. I’d just go to the toilet at times where I would usually go because I just didn’t feel anything. Plus I couldn’t stand up for longer than 10 minutes or my legs would collapse. Luckily all that went back to normal, though I still get this weird back pain from time to time that I associate with that. I don’t know how I will ever survive a proper surgery… 😭 I just can’t handle pain. 52) Piercing: Still don’t have one. 53) Sport: I don’t know which one came first, horse-riding or table tennis. Started both when I was 11. I stopped playing table tennis when I was 20, I stopped riding horses when I was 16. I don’t miss any of my hobbies that I’ve given up, except for horse-riding. 54) Vacation: We used to have a caravan/travel trailer when I was little. We’d go to the same camp site every year where we had our own spot with a shed and stuff. We’d go there in the weekends and during the summer. Later we bought a mobile home at a different camp site, but that camp site closed down when I was 20. Now going to see my boyfriend (and him coming over to see me) just counts as vacation for me. But that will change once I finish uni, I guess. 55) Pair of trainers: No clue? WHY IS 56 MISSING 57) Eating: Of the day? Ice lolly… 58) Drinking: Water. 59) I’m about to: Make dinner, mac & cheese. 60) Listening to: YNMIDNY. 61) Waiting for: My motivation to kick in. 62) Want: To sleep. All day, every day. 63) Get married: I’m not married yet. 64) Career: Don’t really have a career yet… I have a student job at a holiday resort with villas. And before that I worked as a cashier in a supermarket. I’d like to become a subtitler eventually.
YOUR TYPE…
65) Hugs or kisses?: I could live without kisses, but not without hugs. Not that I want to live without kisses... But if I had to choose, I mean. 66) Lips or eyes?: Eyes. 67) Shorter or taller?: If you would have asked me this a couple of years ago, I’d say taller. But my boyfriend is shorter than me. That’s what you get when you date an Englishman as a Dutchie. 😊 68) Older or younger?: Older. 69) Nice arms or nice stomach?: Arms. 70) Sensitive or loud?: Sensitive. 71) Hook up or relationship?: Relationship. I don’t think I could ever just hook-up with someone. Maybe Ed, lol. 72) Troublemaker or hesitant?: Out of those two, hesitant I guess?
HAVE YOU EVER…
74) Kissed a stranger?: No. 75) Drank hard liquor?: No. 76) Lost glasses, contact/lenses?: No. I’ve never lost my glasses, but I’ve sat on them before, lol. 77) Turned someone down?: Relationship-wise? No. In general? Probably. 78) Sex on first date?: No. 79) Broken someone’s heart?: No. 80) Had your heart broken?: No. 81) Been arrested?: No. 82) Cried when someone died?: Yes, obviously. 83) Fallen for a friend?: Yes.
DO YOU BELIEVE IN…
84) Yourself?: No…t really. 85) Miracles?: No. 86) Love at first sight?: No. 87) Santa Claus?: No. Funnily enough most Dutch kids don’t believe in Santa Claus. They believe in Sinterklaas instead. He’s a saint (Saint Nicholas) who gives presents to kids (in the weeks leading up to and) on the 5th of December. Some parents decide to have their kids believe in both, but I think most Dutch kids grow up with the idea that Santa Claus (or the Christmas Man, as we call him) is simply fake. Not sure why little me never questioned the existence of Sinterklaas, though… 88) Kiss on the first date?: Since I met my boyfriend online and the first time I met him in RL was after months of Skyping and already sort of being in a relationship, yes? 89) Angels?: No. I don’t believe in a higher power, though sometimes I wish I did.
EVEN MORE…
90) Current best friend’s name: Merel. 91) Eye color: Hazel? 92) Favorite movie: All of the LotR movies?

11 Questions
I was tagged by @fedonciadale about a million years ago. Thanks for tagging me m’dear!
Rules: Answer the following 11 questions and then ask 11 of your own and tag people.
1. Your favourite book quote?
This is mean. I have TOO MANY...but for one I like at random?
“Hell wasn't a major reservoir of evil, any more than Heaven, in Crowley's opinion, was a fountain of goodness; they were just sides in the great cosmic chess game. Where you found the real McCoy, the real grace and the real heart-stopping evil, was right inside the human mind.”
- Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett
2. What teacher has impressed you?
My 5th grade teacher mounted a production of Macbeth with ten-year-olds and it was actually...kind of good? And rewarding. And challenging. And not as crazy as it sounds. I was one of the witches/Weird Sisters and I had a blast! (and still remember my lines lol).
Leave Dr. Seuss to other elementary schoolers. We were just too metal for that.
3. What time would you like to visit in a time machine to have a peek?
This is SUCH and tough question for me cuz I am history TRASH but also being a lady in the past is just, generally speaking, a raw deal. That being said, I’d definitely like to wander around the 20s (sneak hooch, see the flicks, go dancing...the usual).
4. What person from the past would you like to invite for tea and have a chat with?
Eleanor of Aquitaine. Girl would have some stories, let me tell you.
5. What person from the past would you like to conjure up and punch in the face?
Oh jeez...and I only get one? Um...I mean aside from the obvious murderous assholes (Hitler et al). I’d probably go with (for very personal reasons tied to a specific finals week where reading/writing a paper on one of his books meant I’d be rounding out to 72 hours without sleep) James Joyce (sorry dude).
6. Your first OTP? Canon or not?
I mean...Wee Emmy shipped ALL THE DISNEY THINGS first. I was into Princess Aurora x Prince Philip and Cinderella x Prince Charming in a BIG WAY when I was about three and then proceeded to have a full blown melt down when I met them at Disneyland that year cuz...STARSTRUCK!!! (My mom has pics. I cried. Having my faves up close was too intense.)
7. Your age, when your read or watched LotR?
Confession time: I have not read LotR. *ducks as people throw assorted rotten fruit and vegetables in her direction*. I HAVE seen some of the films...and I was probably about 15, maybe? Not too sure. I just know my sister loves those books a LOT and is forever irritated I did not get onboard with her obsession.
8. Do you have siblings?
YES! Two human. Two canine. All good eggs. (I am well and truly blessed in this department.)
My brother is a creative, super smart dude, who watches classic films with me, loves board games TOO MUCH, and makes me laugh. My sister is bold, and funny, and just SO MUCH PERSONALITY, and is basically my mini-me and best friend. Murphy...where do I even begin? Supermodel good looks. The OG Nap Queen. Best of dogs. And Maisy? Fetch champ of the family. Massive goober. (Oh, and also a super, secret Sith Lord on the sly).
9. The last movie that made you cry? And why?
I rewatched Homeward Bound: An Incredible Journey recently because it was just added to Netflix and CHILDHOOD FEELS and let me tell you all, I was BAWLING.
10. Autumn or spring?
Autumn because...BOOTS! And JACKETS! And BONFIRES! And FOLIAGE!
(I live in the American Northeast and it is a freakin’ gorgeous place to be that time of year)
11. Would you rather have roses or chocolate as a present?
Chocolates. Always.
Tagging: @goodqueenalys, @aureliacamargo, @greengableslover, @misssusanvance, @eliamartvll, @paperflowercrowns, @myriddin, @riahchan, @alienor-woods
My questions for you are:
Do you prefer going in person to the mall/store or shopping online?
What’s your favorite fanfic trope?
They're making a movie about your life. What song is playing in the trailer?
What's your favorite word?
Would you rather: parkour everywhere you go or permanently wear rollerblades?
What’s something you’ve always wanted to learn how to do?
When going on a trip, what is a ‘must-pack’ item in your suitcase?
What historical/retro fashion trend needs to make a comeback?
Pencil or pen?
You're traveling down the Oregon Trail. Do you ford the river or caulk the wagons and float?
What TV show can you rewatch unconditionally forever?

🚨Spoilers ahead!🚨
Stranger Than Fiction
“I learned my husband and best friend were having an affair when I walked in on them having sex while they were watching Stranger Than Fiction.” —melissam458146328
Columbia Pictures
The Departed
“My younger sister loves to spoil all movies for me. She started blowing up my phone towards the end of The Departed, knowing that I would start to worry and think it was an emergency. I opened my phone to a text, ‘EVERYONE DIES HAHAHAHA.‘ Classic.” —ensalinas82
Warner Bros.
Home Alone 2
“Home Alone 2… officially ruined because of Trump.“ —hertzlyd000
20th Century Fox
Up
“The very first time I saw Up was back in 2009 on Thanksgiving. The first 15 minutes utterly destroyed me, and it was made even worse for me when I looked over to see my grandparents cuddled together on the couch. My grandma was in end-stage pancreatic cancer and wound up passing away not even a month and a half later. I can’t watch that movie anymore without going back to that moment.” —hordeoralliancewtf
Pixar
Wonder
“My 8-year-old son has a huge fear of Wonder to the point of obsession after seeing the trailer. He stopped watching TV on the chance they have commercials, and he won’t go into stores that might have it on display. He gets upset if we even say the word ‘wonder’. I read the book and wanted to see the movie, but after all of this, I don’t feel like seeing it anymore.” —catherinev7
Lionsgate
The Wizard of Oz
“The Wizard of Oz used to be one of my fave movies, but then I got a role in the musical and every thing was fine until I got my first fucking period on show night and had to wear white pants. I later looked at the pictures and EVERYONE could see my bloody pants. I can’t ever look at those lil munchkins again.“ —isabelb4357ef45b
MGM
Lord of the Rings
“My ex loved Lord of the Rings. I was sick one time and he brought over the extended edition of the entire series. It was fun watching it with him and we got to spend some quality time together. A few months later, he came out to me as gay while I was in the fucking HOSPITAL! I broke up with him and three weeks later, he started dating my best friend….. WHO IS A FEMALE! I can’t even think of LOTR without feeling angry.” —tammybingbongguidry
New Line Cinema
The Great Gatsby
“I went to go see The Great Gatsby with my crush and my best friend. Half way through the movie, the tables turn and the two of them are holding hands while I’m the third wheel. I still cant listen to ‘Young’.” —srocano
Warner Bros
The Goonies
“The Goonies was ruined for me because of my psychotic sister. She FLIPPED out because I watched her VHS and put the tape back in the wrong way. She threw the tape at me and screamed at me. What followed was an entire summer, autumn and part of a winter of her mistreating me, stealing MY tapes and destroying them. I swear, it was daily hell for me. It was affecting my mentality and making me scared to come home. I still cannot watch The Goonies to this day.” —missgem
Warner Bros.
Prometheus
“My husband and I went on a rare kid-free date to see Prometheus. Unfortunately, the man behind us felt so at home and comfortable, he took his shoes off and propped them up by us. Now, I can’t see anything involving the Alien franchise without thinking of horrible foot odor.” —jordanqc3
20th Century Fox
22 Jump Street
“In college, my (now ex) boyfriend and I tried to plan a movie night. We thought it’d be fun to rent a bunch of movies and make snacks, etc. His three neighbors came barging in, drunk as shit. They turned all the lights on, plopped down, and watched the movie. They talked during the whole thing and ate all the snacks. I kept texting my boyfriend to ask them to leave, but he never said anything to them. Still can’t watch 22 Jump Street without my skin crawling from anger.” —whitneysmith
Columbia Pictures

Warner Bros.
Frozen
“My mom just had to tell me that she cheated on my dad with her best friend’s son, who also happened to be a good friend of mine. I was crushed. We took the kids to see Frozen the next day and I cried silently through the whole thing. Now I associate that movie with heartbreak and even hearing the soundtrack makes me tear up.” —suzannel46f36ed04
Disney
The Godfather
“I was recovering from organ transplant surgery. One evening, I was in tremendous pain and sat up while watching The Godfather hoping the pain would pass. Turns out I had a bad abdominal infection and almost died. To this day, I can’t watch the movie without some emotional discomfort.” —josritson
Paramount Pictures
American Pie
“The first American Pie movie, because every time I went to a party, people expected me to scream “MILF! MILF!” at the family photos hanging up simply because I was Asian and spiked my hair like John Cho did.” —samg4b02cda83
Universal Studios
The Mask
“I can’t watch The Mask with Jim Carrey because halfway through watching it, my dad left and my mom announced we were moving out. Every time I see it, I think about that night!” —bradyg3
New Line Cinema
Kung Fu Panda
“I once agreed to hang out with my friend and her boyfriend while in middle school. We put on Kung Fu Panda and within the first five minutes, the two of them were making out. It was so awkward. Miramax
Old School
“We were watching Old School as a family when my dad got a suspicious phone call from his ‘job’ claiming he was needed at the office. Later that night, while he was still at ‘work’, he accidentally butt-dialed my mom and she heard him telling another woman he loved her. They were divorced shortly thereafter.” —jazzycatsindisneyland
DreamWorks
Rise of the Planet of the Apes
“Rise of the Planet of the Apes was ruined after my little brother had a seizure while my family was watching it. We had to call an ambulance, and when I came back from the hospital it was still paused and on the screen. I can’t even watch the movie without getting stressed, which is a real shame considering what an awesome movie it is.” —londoni2
20th Century Fox
Full Metal Jacket
“My dad and one of his friends got day drunk watching Full Metal Jacket. A friend was dropping me off after school and we pulled into the driveway to find the two of them shaving each other’s heads, poorly, while loudly quoting most of the boot camp scenes. I was mortified. Haven’t been able to watch the movie since.” —riotfoxmommy
Warner Bros.
The Sixth Sense
“I rented it when it came out on video and invited my friend over to watch it. I told her I hadn’t seen it, and she replied ‘Oh, you’ll love it. Bruce Willis is dead the whole time.‘ We no longer speak.” —samanthaholleyf
“If you’ve watched 50 First Dates then you know they watch The Sixth Sense everyday. One scene, Drew Barrymore’s character says ‘I can’t believe Bruce Willis was a ghost the whole time!’ And sadly, right then and there was when The Sixth Sense was spoiled for me.” —tatel4dd4c2d7a
“My mom: ‘Wasn’t it crazy how Bruce Willis was dead the whole time?’ Me: ‘Mom, I haven’t seen it yet!’ Mom: ‘Oh you haven’t? That’s too bad. It was really great!'” —sarapara725
Buena Vista Pictures
