How many hours do you work on your comic per week, and how do you manager to balance that with other responsibilities?

heheh So we are.. cheating a bit Both me and my coworker are unemployed, and is working on hour comic, like was it a full time job. It is our passion project, and dream that we can work and live of makeing comics. In Denmark you can apply for grants from the government, but you need to have releashed a book before that is possible. We are useing the comic, to show potentional clients in the future what we can do. For now we are working on it from 09:00-17:00 ish (with a long lunch break) while applying for other kinds of grants, and also does all the things we are supposed to to get our unemplyment money, and searching for jobs, and freelance gigs, gathering the courage to start our own small company (not right now though) and yeaah time will tell

Haha also not cheating! It’s great you’re using the time to chase the dream I’m curious what’s your breakdown for those time working on the comic? As for me, usually 1-2 hours a day with a bit more on the weekend if time permits. These days with the quarantine it’s about 2-3 h a day

Since I'm unemployed until who knows when I've been working on my comic between 40-50 hours a week about 6 to 7 days a week... most weeks. Some days, like update day or chore day, I hardly work on the comic or don't work on it at all. Admittedly I'm not the best at balancing drawing with other responsibilities, sometimes I get so into it that I forget about daily house chores, other weeks I do the opposite and only do house chores which makes me totally behind of comic stuff. I can't seem to find a good middle ground, it always turns into completely focusing on one or the other.

So I have no school or work, so the webcomic has become almost a fulltime project for me

I average about 10 hours per day working on it, not counting on chores and exercise

Another thing I worry about is the possibility of carpal tunnel syndrome, which is why I've been relentless with exercise, too

I guess it's just a combination of relentless reminders and also sheer willpower that gets me to do other responsibilities haha

So since my school had to cancel, I have to be more responsible for my online course. Sometimes I give myself 2 days off each week to work more into my upcoming webcomic but I have to switch my mind for school work, online classes. Also extra time for food. I need to get back into exercise or I feel exhausted more easily. I keep a wall schedule so that I make it a routine to write what I'll do every 3 or 5 days, to keep my active brain reminded(edited)

I spent the majority of last year (fun)employed (partially by choice, partially not! my previous job let me go rather unceremoniously... and I needed a hiatus anyway... so it worked out) so I poured a lot more hours into that chapter of Phantomarine than I usually did. I worked on it almost every day - at least for a couple of hours, but sometimes up to a full eight-hour day. That number has dipped tremendously since I’ve gone back to work, but I’m spreading the same amount of time out in a broader way. I’m trying to get a good buffer during my hiatus, so I can work and draw in a healthy balance. I don’t have crazy overtime at my current job like I did at my last one, so that’s already a comfort. I’m confident I’ll be able to hit a good stride once the comic returns in June (edited)

What’s everyone’s tips for breaks/stretches/balance? I feel like I certainly need to revisit these to avoid burnout and continue feeling motivated!

Actually there was a cool manga artist who's tip was literally he only worked working hours. His mornings are free and since manga was his job, he worked form 12-6, giving him 2 hours to do other work he needs to get done, and takes morning walks and stuff.

Another person I know had "No working weekends" as a thing becuase they are a freelancer.

I personally have try to make sure I ahve a routine, and actually, stretch before drawing.

Streetch before, during a break, and then after, to keep that body nice and warmed up

Health-wise there's this hing for your : every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds. I'm not good at following this, but when I do it, it helps a lot.

Despite the current pandemic, my work-life hasn't changed much (unless you count stress getting in the way). I am currently "unemployed," but I do consider comicking my full-time job. I am also not very good at balancing work and life. Something's always gotta give. Last year, I worked at a job that basically ruined my ability to work on my comic. I worked 30-40 hours typically, ruined my sleep schedule, took work home sometimes, and was constantly exhausted. This is what resulted in my year and a half long hiatus, and it's what drove me to work like hell on my comic when I quit. Now (when I'm in the groove and not suffering from art block), I typically spend 60-70 hours on my comic and get 2-3 pages done: - 30 hours sketching (I know, ridiculous) - 5 hours filling in base colors - 20-25 hours painting - 5 hours adding text, speech bubbles, sfx, and finishing touches - 1-2 hours formatting for Webtoon I also spend some time throughout the week typing up the script, doing concept art for things coming in the future of the comic, and preparing for conventions, but I can't tell you exactly how much time.

and I also like to hold my arm out parallel, point my fingers up and using my other hand to pull the fingers back so i'm stretching the wrist

then I point the fingers down and pull on the fingers until my wrist is stretching

I'm pretty fast. 2-6 hours per page, depending on how detailed it is. Average of 3-4. I could probably do 2 pages/ week easily enough, but don't want to do more than that. I'm the kind of person who always needs to be doing a million different things. I need to leave time for my other hobbies and my paintings and my academics and extracurriculars. Otherwise I'd get burnt out doing one thing only

@eli [a winged tale] So since it is both me and @Q (Wayfinders: Off Course) working, we start with working on a rough each, our goal is one step (so rough, ink, color) for two pages pr day, pr person. So in a weak the goal is four finished pages a week, and then we upload 3 pages per week. So it is divided that in the morning we start at 09:00 in the morning, maybe checking mail, being practical or whatever. Then we work until 12:00 were we eat lunch, go for a long nice walk and then we go back to work between 13:00 and 14:00 ish and then work until 17:00 when we begin to prepare dinner. Then of course breaks inbetween

@shadowhood (SunnyxRain) You know the 80-20 rule? You can get 80% of the result with 20% of the effort? My comic is very messy if you zoom in. I don't spend time making sure the linework or the coloring is perfectly clean. Also, I'm pretty fast at drawing figures. I used to practice figure drawing a lot by rushing to draw strangers irl before they moved, or by drawing a bunch of fast figures from the free figure drawing model websites online. I've also taken a figure drawing course (didn't even have to pay because it was part of my university! Even if you don't have that option you can probably find free life drawing sessions on Meetup or similar!) which really helped me streamline my process for drawing people

Oh I see! Yes, I used to take life drawing classes too! And your response makes me feel a lot better

I tend to be a bit messy with inking, and since i'm a perfectionist a lot of my time is wasted on editing/clean up

I've seen cronaj draw, and while I think the results look excellent, I think her method is a kind of inefficient. She draws like a printer, nearly finishing one detailed body part before moving on the the next. I think maybe if she drew in a more classical way, going from a gesture drawing to progressively more detailed, it might help her be faster and her poses more cohesive and dynamic. Maybe working on 1 or 5 min figures would help? Practicing things like this?

I've heard some people say that life drawing is either way easier or way harder though. Because of your depth perception when looking at a real person

But the bruises on my legs can attest to my horrid depth perception haha. That might be why I don't notice a difference

I would recommend you try both but right now we pretty much only have the online option haha

Yeah I’ve done both and I think irl creates complexity with depth and the interactions with others etc is helpful but online is my go to for flexibility

I think having a process streamlined will make things more efficient. The downside is that it might feel tedious and I do switch it up from time to time for variety

Brain: sees a real model in front of me Brain: translates 3D to 2D, result: drawing Brain: sees a photo/video of a model Brain: SHIT. That's supposed to be 3D, isn't it? Brain: Translates 2D to 3D (basically re-constructing it in my head, or attempting to re-construct) so that it can translate it back to 2D Brain: BSOD

There's some online resources out there that have "3D" photos... you know, two near-identical images side by side, so if you look at it cross-eyed, it becomes 3D?

But I can't do those because I get a headache X'D

Once this coronavirus thing is over, there's lots of ways you can do gesture drawings from just random people -- bus stops, cafes, museums (I have not done this, but people who have done this report this is really good because others assume you're drawing the artworks. XD)

@Eightfish (Puppeteer) While I agree that my method of drawing is "inefficient," I do not draw like a printer. There are videos of people drawing like a printer and it's not what I'm doing. I have done gesture drawing before, but it always looked incredibly abstract, and not quite like people, which is fine, but not what I'm going for. I treat gesture drawing like a warm-up exercise. It doesn't really do anything for my end result, but gets my drawing muscles stretched out.(edited)

Perhaps it was an inappropriate analogy. What works for me I guess wouldn't work for everyone. I was trying to offer advice because whenever you talk about how much time you spend on art and you work life balance it's commendable but also dismaying. I do like a lot but this kinda thing is most of it

anyways as for the question at hand, I do a lot of different things for my comics weekly. My millennium pages take me 2-6 hours i would say, but I also have patreon things I need to do so I'd say i spend 10-15 hours on it a week. for my other comic, I spend about 6 hours an update, and it updates every other week. but honestly, all of my free time goes to assorted comics. If i'm not working on school work or chatting with people, I'm working on things for patreon, potential merch, or other comics I want to start sometime.

My answer for the prompt question has changed a lot since I started quarantine lmao... I used to do about 10 hours of work throughout the week on my comic page (usually after work, I have an office job) but ironically it’s gotten harder while I work from home. I’ve been struggling to find time since I don’t have a separation between work and home now, and putting the boundaries up of “I’m not always available” to coworkers is difficult.

Also on figure studies: they’re a great way to practice speed. I use the concepts of figure drawings all the time.

@kayotics As someone who always works from home doing remote contract work, I have to say I think this is something a lot of people underestimate about work at home life. In that it's sometimes really difficult to establish boundaries with ppl and make them understand you aren't always available and also aren't gonna work billions of hours of overtime. So I'm sorry to hear that's affecting your comic work.

I work anywhere from 6-8 hours a day on comic stuff. That’s an average though. Sometimes I slack and need to pull all nighters to make up for it. Yes, I am terrible at time management. They say entrepreneurs are the only people willing to work 80 hours a week for themselves so they do not have to work 40 hours a week for someone else. I guess webcomic creators are the only people willing to work 80+ hours a week so that they can... go to work for someone else afterwards

This is a hard question to answer because it varies a lot depending on my energy levels. Ideally I’d spend several hours a day on comics, but realistically I draw as much as possible when I have the energy (5+ hours a day for as many days in a row as I can handle it) and then go weeks or months too tired to do comics. On average, barring any long periods of exhaustion or other interruptions from RL, I spend about 20+ hours a week making pages for my comics.

I prefer to work on my comic for about an hour ever morning and maybe 2-3 hours in the evening, that's the ideal routine for me. Right now I sadly have a lot of schoolwork to do (writing my thesis) so i might get less than 30 minutes in the morning and then feel rlly tired in the evening so I dont get as much time then either. but oh well!

I can still work for 4-5 hours on the weekends so I manage ^^(edited)

Who would have thought local goody two shoes, Jung Jaehyun, was interested in the likes of you?

While he aced his classes and studied at the library until sundown, you barely passed yours and partied until sunrise. He was known in campus as everyone’s first love and you were labelled as resident heartbreaker. His hair was always brushed, seldom times styled, and his skin was flawless while you kept yours either wild and free, or up in a messy bun and beneath your clothes, your skin was marred with tattoos.

No one would have ever guessed that Jaehyun would have even considered you as a candidate to be his girlfriend, let alone catch the two of you in the same room at the summer vacation kick off party.

You honestly didn’t bother with him, assuming he thought you were nothing but a troublemaker. So when you locked eyes with him and saw the faintest blush tinge his cheeks, to say you were curious was an understatement.

You had thought he was embarrassed for getting caught at staring at you, but you notice him following you around the party and your interest was piqued. You decide to gauge his reaction towards your behavior; you danced to the loud bass music, seeing his eyes twinkle when your friends laughed along with you as you sang loudly to the lyrics of the song. His face grew stoic, gaze dark with jealousy, when you danced with guys, grinding your ass against their crotches and letting their hands roam your body.

When you’ve had enough, you stumble to the kitchen and grab a drink. As you pour yourself a cup of tequila, you see Jaehyun amble into the room from your peripheral vision. Smiling to yourself, you hoist yourself up on the kitchen island, letting your dress bunch up your thighs, and take one of the pre-sliced lime wedges from the bowl.

“Hey, Yuta! Up for a body shot?” You yell, voice just louder than the music. A few guys cheer and Yuta grins, walking up to you.

“You know I’m always down for a body shot if it’s from you.” He jams his body between your legs and you roll your eyes, handing him the cup of tequila.

“Requests on salt and lime placement?” You ask in the fakest, sweet voice you can muster.

“Tits and lips, baby, you already know.” Yuta winks, tipping the cup at you and taking a small sip.

With another roll of your eyes, you take a pinch of salt that’s already served by the limes. Yuta leans forward, licking a wet stripe between your breasts that are revealed from the plunging neckline of your dress, and you press the salt particles there, successfully sticking them on.

He waits for you to place the lime between your lips before leaning back down, collecting the salt from the valley of your chest, pulling away to take a gulp of tequila, and finally pulling your face towards him to bite into the lime--and Yuta, being the sly boy that he is, made sure his lips grazes yours.

As you discard the lime from your lips, Yuta is already handing you a new one.

“Nuh-uh, twice in a row isn’t as fun.” You scoff, letting your eyes wander over to Jaehyun, who you had momentarily forgotten. His head is low while Sicheng talks to him, but judging from his red ears; he must have been watching the whole thing.

Yuta groans, looking around, “Hey, Sicheng! Want a body shot from [Y/N]?”

“No, thanks.” He declines, shooting you an apologetic smile.

You shrug as a reply. Sicheng might like parties, but he’s always been the most conservative in your circle of friends.

After a disappointed frown was sent over Sicheng, Yuta’s attention moves onto the man by him. “Oh, hey Jaehyun! How about you?”

“W-what?” Jaehyun looks over with a flustered expression and you were sure by now that he had been watching.

“Take a body shot with [Y/N]!”

He hesitates, eyes drifting towards you.

“Come on, Jaehyun! Summer is here, you gotta loosen up! It’s rare enough for her to invite guys to do body shots, but it’s even rarer for you to be at parties!” When Jaehyun doesn’t move, Yuta steps away from you to go over to him and drag him over. “You guys know each other right?”

“Of course, who doesn’t know our university’s golden boy?” You drawl, tilting your head to the side.

Jaehyun continues to blush, “Uhm, yeah, we went to the same elementary before.”

This makes you gawk at him, trying to remember his face from years ago. “We were?!”

He’s a bit disheartened to know you didn’t know that fact, but nods his head to confirm.

“Enough chitchat, take a shot, [Y/N]. Maybe it’ll help you jog your memory.” Yuta pushes Jaehyun towards you.

“Yuta, stop.” You groan, “Stop forcing others to take shots with me. Besides, I wouldn’t want to ruin the image of our golden boy.”

“I-” Jaehyun chokes out before Yuta can complain, “I don’t mind. I’ve just never done a body shot before.”

“Well lucky for you, I consider myself an expert.” You place a hand on his shoulder and lightly urge him to stand in between your legs. You bite back a knowing grin when Jaehyun’s gaze lingers at the sight of your bare thighs, curious eyes wondering what it looked like beneath the folds of your dress. “Would you mind if I did the shot on you?”

He shakes his head, finally bringing his eyes up to yours. “Not at all, do as you like.”

“As I like?” You grinned widely, glancing briefly at Yuta who is equally amused. “Are you sure?”

“Oh, man, Jaehyun, what I would give to be in your place.”

“Why? How do you like your body shots?”

Instead of answering, you pop the few buttons of his dress shirt until his collarbones are exposed. He didn’t seem to complain, but you can feel his body go rigid from your touch. “Relax, okay? I like my shots with salt on your collarbone, tequila in the dips above your clavicle, and a peeled lime wedge in your mouth.”

“In... my mouth?”

You nod your head, “Are you sure I can have it my way?”

“Y-yeah...” He mumbles and you honestly didn’t expect that response.

While Yuta cheers him on, you prepare for your shot; instructing him to tense up his shoulders so the dip between the base of his throat and collarbone can be deep enough to hold a shot. You pour the alcohol into the small well of his body and placed salt in the other. Quickly peeling a lime wedge, you pop it into his mouth, not missing the harsh breath he exhales.

“Here I go.” You whisper into his ear before ducking down, licking up the salt you placed. You felt him shiver, but you continue to the other side, slurping up the tequila. You throw your head back to let the alcohol burn down your throat, cupping Jaehyun’s cheeks to pull him closer. You slip your tongue between his lips, searching for the lime wedge you fed him, but was met with only the sour juice it produces.

With a weak indignant noise from your throat, you coaxed his tongue into yours; gently sucking the wet muscle and stripping it of the flavors of the fruit. His hands have settled on your hips, gripping tightly whenever you tried to take control of the kiss. Your hands have slithered over his shoulders, amazed at how broad they were and how the muscles beneath his shirt felt firm.

If it wasn’t for the rude wolf whistle from god know who, you wouldn’t have pulled away from Jaehyun’s lips.

“Sorry, I juiced the lime in my mouth.” He says, a little out of breath.

“Don’t be. I think I liked that better.” You whisper back.

Yuta snorts, reminding both of you that he was still very much present. “Well, I know when I’m not wanted. That was hot, by the way, I should have recorded it.”

“Ew, Yuta.” You grimaced at him, but he only laughs at you, walking away to wherever.

Jaehyun moves his thumbs around, drawing circles on your hips and bringing your attention back to him. His eyes are dark and glazed over, “Do you want head upstairs?”

Your lips quirk up into a smirk, “Sure.”

It didn’t take long for the two of you to find an unoccupied bedroom and have Jaehyun hovering over your frame. He straddles your hips, gliding a hand over your abdomen to feel your dress’ fabric.

“This is practically a night gown.” He remarks.

“That’s because it is.” You giggle. When your roommate had reminded you of the party, you were already dressed down to enjoy your Netflix marathon that would eventually bore you to sleep. You didn’t think you were out to impress anyone so you threw on a denim jacket over your pink satin nightie, slipped on your sneakers, applied some lip gloss, and deemed yourself ready. “Had I known I was seducing the university’s golden boy, I would have dressed more accordingly.”

“Oh no, this is fine, this is,” He starts to push your denim jacket off your shoulders and you sit up a bit to take it off, “Hot. God, none of my wet dreams about you can compare to this.”

“About me?” This knocks out the flirty tone of your voice and is replaced by genuine surprise.

“I’ve always liked you, [Y/N]. Since we were kids. I changed my name a few years back--I’m Yoonoh.”

"You were the fat back then!” You blurted out, recoiling a bit when Jaehyun’s expression falls flat. “Wait, no! Sorry, I didn’t mean it that way, but you were! Damn! Puberty has been kind to you.”

“I can say the same to you.” His hand travels up your chest, lightly brushing his palm over them. “I was always curious about your tattoos, you know.”

You hum, “I only have one. People keep adding non-existent tattoos on me.”

“What is it?”

“Why don’t you look for it?”

His eyes glint, accepting the challenge. He hooks his fingers to the flimsy straps of your dress and drag them down your arms, low enough until it exposes your boobs and he lets out a soft groan. He takes a breast into each hand, softly palming them.

“So the rumors about you getting your nipples pierce are fake?” He brings his mouth over one of them, lightly licking your nub while his fingers tweaked the other.

A gasp escapes you, “Oh, I got a piercing, and you can go find that one, too. It’s not that far from the tattoo.”

He peeks at you through his lashes, chuckling a bit. He pushes the skirt of your nightie up until he exposes your belly, expecting to see the piercing but is dumbfounded to see it absent. “What?”

You bite down a laugh when you see his eyes travel lower, finally spotting your tattoo just above the garter of your panties.

“Eat up.” You read the tattoo for him. You got it after losing to a dare with your roommate. She chose where and what to put, but at least you were able to decide the design; keeping it simple with a san-serif typeface.

It makes him smirk, the quirk of his lips bringing out his famed dimple onto his cheek. But then it dawns him: the piercing.

He looks at you in silent affirmation of his suspicion, but you only bite down on your lip and lift your hips up so he could get your panties off.

Once they slid off your legs and tossed aside, his eyes see it: the small pearl-like gray metal piercing on your clit.

“Shit, that’s so hot.” Jaehyun sighs, gently sweeping the pad of his thumb over it.

Your hips buck up involuntarily at the stimulation, “It feels good, too.”

“Yeah?”

“Not only for me,” You rest back on the pillow and spread your legs wider for him. “I heard it feels nice on tongues, too.”

sabine grew up w/ a single mom in Detroit & they were basically skating the line between lower class and poverty, meaning they had like a proper house, but they were definitely behind on mortgage always and living paycheck to paycheck :// like when they went grocery shopping & sab would put anything but the basics in the cart her mom would look at her like ‘that’s a joke, right?’ and never could afford like birthday/christmas presents or cake or anything rip ( honestly not that sab’s mom gave enough a shit to even notice smh ) ! so everything was always a little .. hectic ig ? her mom couldnt ever relax unless she was blackout drunk so uhh that’s p much that on that sighs

even worse?? when sab was about eleven her mom got injured at work ( dont ask me How cos i have? no idea hibgfnjd i’ll flesh it out at some point.. maybe .. probably not.. ) so she and sab lived on disability checks and whatever small money sab could make helping her neighbors with like yard work/babysitting/shit like that until she was old enough to get a real job smh meaning she’s been working as long as she can remember god im exhausted just typing it

this basically left sab to raise herself, which .. most likely left her better off than if her mom paid her more attention tbh? cos her mom is selfish and doesnt care about anything but the next drink & the next man she’ll be inviting home smh !! the whole thing w/ her mom is that she Never Wanted kids but it wasn’t an option to abort or give sab up for adoption so she was Stuck raising a kid she never wanted .. truly .. rip ..

that said, sab’s mom was .. promiscuous to say the least .. all thru sab’s childhood there were countless nameless men in and out of their lives ranging from a day to a few weeks at most SIGHS anyways this of course led to sab having a seriously warped idea of what a healthy relationship is HELLO hvicnjm it’s super flawed to the point where she thinks the height of healthy relationship goals is to be exclusive for more than a few weeks smfh its wild tbh .. romance? dont know her! love? WHOMST? to sabine, there’s no point in bothering to rely or care for someone else because you’ll just end up disappointed so she ? keeps her distance for the most part.. relying Solely on herself cos thats the only person who wont let her down ( while also suffering from deeply rooted self-hatred? wow .. legends only .. )

ill be real.... my very first actual oc (ash) was meant to be a harry potter self insert oc to use for roleplaying... that idea fell apart though so i repurposed her and made a bunch of others. creating a story for them was when i first really decided i wanted to be a writer actually. back then everyone was white, cishet, emo, could shapeshift into wolves,

i still have those few original characters though. i focus on other ones mostly but they’re still sort of The Iconic Squad im still perfecting them but theyre a lot better now and i like them a lot

35. How is your character’s imagination? Daydreaming a lot? Worried most of the time? Living in memories?

hmmmmmm well glitch comes to mind because something like this applies to him a lot ... for nearly his entire life he was forced to daydream, literally, and it took a massive toll on the state of his mind and body. it can be hard for him to tell reality apart from his thoughts. he does also worry a lot and has debilitating anxiety that makes him unable to properly function for a while at the beginning of his story. so i guess his imagination is pretty wild. but i’d say it’s more that he’s overall ruled by his past and his mental health

dreams and daydreaming and vivid imagination is very interesting to me though so its sort of a recurring theme in my characters and stories. i have a currently unnamed character who is the god of a universe in his mind and when he sleeps he’s awake in that world. so he never actually gets to rest. probably very exhausting. his good friend ginger also daydreams constantly, they nearly exist in two places at once as these daydreams serve as a portal to the nether realm

50. If your character was presented with imminent and unavoidable death/fatality, how would they react? Would they try to avoid death anyways? Would they try to make their last days count?

this question made me teehee because this is actually sort of a plot in one of my stories. don’t want to spoil anything but ... i’m going to spoil it jDSNDSNJ it will probably be forgotten by the time i get anything written

as the magician (a “servant” to a goddess, allowing him special abilities to protect his people), nox is presented with a prophecy that predicts his death. he knows this for a relatively long time before it happens but i think he just pushes it down. he struggles a lot with ... emotions, i guess, and it’s easier for him to bottle things away so that he can continue being a positive influence on his community. it’s sort of part of the job? but it got way out of hand with him, idk, he’s mad depressed and has forced himself to forget how to express that. he almost ignores the prophecy so much he’s caught off guard when the time finally comes.

it gets a lot worse when you bring his apprentice into the picture - glitch, who has more or less become dependent on him and only has nox to thank for slowly being able to recover from what happened to him. he effectively taught him how to be a real person so he idolizes him a lot. when it finally happens and glitch realizes he neglected to warn him of his death, despite knowing how much he mattered to him, that would ... sting a bit, to say the least. he completely shuts down, all healing progress seeming to be instantly lost. from beyond the grave i feel that would make nox regret his decision to keep it secret, but what else could he possibly do, yknow? there’s no way you can make everybody happy when it comes to death

i feel like this answer is definitely cheating but im all out of ideas. thank you for coming to my ted talk

FINALLY IM DONE WITH THIS OH MY GOD. My SAI crashed while I was finishing the painting one of the images and my stupid past-self hadn’t save literally since I had finished the lineart, which meant I had to start doing the colors all over again. Which sucked. A L O T .

BUT, WITHOUT ANY OTHER INTERUPTIONS, I HERE PRESENT, FUTURE!VIRGIL IN MY SANDERS SIDES POKÉMON AU....

Nurse Virgil.

Yes, you guys aren’t seeing or reading wrong, I thought for what I wanted Virgil’s future to be in my AU, and somehow the idea of him becoming a nurse on a pokémon center came to me and I was like “????? it??? somehow fits his character in my AU??? And he would look nice af??? Heck yeah, let’s do this.” Honestly, I was thinking about how he does always try to look out for everyone and everything, and somehow the idea of him in my AU becoming a Nurse clicked and i loved it. So yeah I HAVE thought a little about how and when in his path he decided to follow the path of becoming a pokémon nurse and all, will explain better under keep reading like I always do. But one thing I knew I had to give him, was a new “nurse pokémon” like the ones Nurse Joy always have with her in every generation, and then without even thinking much, I went with Audino simply because it’s shiny is purple. Yes, that was the only reason, and is a valid af reson.

His old pokémon obviously still are with him, and seems like we have a new addiction BESIDES Audino?? my, my how did that little fella joined the team, I wonder?? Perhaps the information is under the read more....~ and warning. It’s DEFINITELY a LOOOONG one. Told you all I imagined the story behind WHY Virgil took this path. :’D

BUT FIRST. TAGGING LIST! AGAIN, IF YOU DO NOT WISH TO BE ON THIS TAG LIST ANYMORE, PLEASE INFORM ME! Virgil ended up taking into the nurse path after taking the job of being Nurse’s joy “errand boy” for a while. At that point in his life, he was actually living with Patton in his daycare, finally deciding to stop wondering the world after something he didn’t even know what was. He did help Patton around the daycare, but still liked to help the old nurse on the pokémon center every now and then. Patton obviously had nothing against it and even encouraged Virgil to do so, always happily saying how he could see Virgil’s anxious and reserved self slowly but surely start to dissapear as he could see the boy slowly start to open up easily to others and trust them a little bit more. The Nurse Joy he helped was already pretty old, having worked on what she loved for pretty much all her life, she was also always happy to have Virgil around even if just for the company, something about how when you worked on taking care of pokémon and seeing trainers come and go so fast, she barely was able to take a break, it was nice to have a helping hand other than from her pokémon. Until one day she asked Virgil if HE wasn’t interested in actually becoming a nurse himself, seeing that without even realizing Virgil DID start to do more than just “get her itens and medicine she had bought from town” and actually helping around with treating the pokémon that trainers would bring. Virgil obviously thought she was joking??? Like, Wasn’t becoming a nurse a Joy thing??? All nurses he had seen in his journey WERE Nurses JOY after all. Sure, he might had helped the poor woman with taking care of the pokémon bringing them their medicine and food, but surely being an ACTUAL nurse of a pokémon center was WAY Different than THAT. And most importantly, he still saw himself as an anxious mess, what if he couldn’t treat a pokémon properly?? what if he messed up and ended up giving the wrong treatment??? Joy answered his doubts. And say that no, while most nurses WERE Joys, it wasn’t actually a “only Joy” thing. Anyone could actually apply and study to become one, the Joys were simply the most famous and best at that, but that didn’t mean ALL Joys were nurses, or that all nurses WERE Joys, she knew the poor boy anxiety problem, but still tried to reasure that he would do fine, it wasn’t like he really needed to if he didn’t want to, it was just a suggestion of her, he obviously wouldn’t be at that boat alone, all his pokémon WOULD be able to help him around, even if he probably would get a new “healing pokémon”. All his pokémon already were pretty much therapy pokémon so, it would obviously be completely fine. But still. The final choice to apply and try out all the studies was his. Virgil didn’t think much of it then, but..the more he tought about it, somehow, the less strange it was??? He even talked with Patton and Logan about it, bringing the deal up as a joke, but then they both actually agreed it could be something he could do??? Again, it took a lot of talking from Patton’s and Logan’s side to make Virgil believe it was something he was capable of, and then a little more on Logan’s side pointing out the positive traits the study would bring, and finishing saying “You might study and finish it with golden stars, but it’s not like that means you ARE OBLIGATED to become a Pokémon Nurse. You can go for the knowledge, but if at the end of all, it isn’t something you want to do, you can come back. We won’t bring the deal anymore and we will support you in your decision.” That Virgil decided to actually go back to the Nurse Joy to ask where exactly he could apply to study, who not only gave him the adress, but also a recomendation letter that surely got him in the Pokémon Nurse university, and eventually finished with golden stars.

Now that THAT Part is out of the way... A little bit more about him once he became a Nurse:

While it is an POKÉMON center, specialized in taking care of Pokémon, he also takes care of trainers who might have been injuired or attacked by pokémon. Like, trainers under effects of a Paralizing Powder and stuff like that.

Virgil as a nurse is literally 30% less anxious, 60% more frustrated and 100% DONE.

Ask him “why there isn’t a hot nurse Joy working here instead of an emo kid”, I fucking dare you.

“Geez, I don’t know Derek, Maybe because the poor woman might have other dreams in mind and don’t want to stay behind a desk wearing all the shit that comes out of the mouth of guys like you??? Maybe she just didn’t want to become a nurse??? I DON’T KNOW DEREK, WHY ARE YOU HERE ASKING STUPID QUESTIONS WHEN THERE ARE TRAINERS ACTUALLY NEEDING TO HAVE THEIR POKÉMON HEALED AND ARE HAVING TO WAIT BECAUSE YOU ARE AN ASSHOLE THAT IS KEEPING ME FROM DOING MY WORK TO ASK QUESTIONS LIKE THIS HUH DEREK?!!? WHY?!?!!?”

Definitely not giving up his dark clothes and make-up simply because he now is a nurse. His uniform is literally more purple-ish than pink, and he only allows himself to wear the white apron.

He honestly just...worries. Which is something he always did. But now he is more worried because of how dumb some trainers seem to be like?? Why would you fight a LV35 Ursaring when your poor Bayleef is only LV17???? WHY Would you look at a dark forest full of wild Vileplumes and Glooms and think “Yeah, I can definitely go through there without a repellent or anything like that, i’ll be JUST FINE.” Seriously. He just can’t take all that anymore.

All his friends are obviously proud as heck of him for becoming a Nurse, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t get frustrated with them as well.

More than once Patton was bought to the center after being poisoned by hugging a Muk. “Patton, tell me..WHY did you hug him?!?!” “HE LOOKED SAD!!!” “PATTON, HE’S LITERALLY MADE OF TOXIC AND POLUTION WASTE!!” “THAT ONLY MEANT HE NEVER HAD BEEN HUGGED, SO I DEFINITELY HAD TO HUG HIM!!!”

The others aren’t any different though.

“Logan, I swear, If you have to be bought here again because you exasted yourself to the point of collapsing, I am tying you up to the table.” “That’s ridiculous, I assure you, I am perfectly FINE! You and Patton are simply exagerating. I can define my working and resting time just fine.” “Logan, You do realize your Alakazam literally knows the pokémon center number right.” “....How does he even know how to dia-” “I gave him orders to keep an eye on you and literally put you to sleep using hypnosis if he sees you overworking yourself again.” “WHA- HOW- HOW DID YOU-” “I talked to him, i know. shocker. Don’t try me Logan. Just do what I say. DOCTORS orders.”

“Remy...what...what are you doing here...it’s...literally 3AM. WHY did you press the emergency alarm?!?!” “...’Cause it’s an emergency???” “... None of your pokémon are with you and you look fine.” “Im out of coffe Virgil.” “...wha-” “there’s none left home! :(” “...Remy, I already told you. The guy that runs the coffe bar here in the pokémon center only comes and open it up at 6:30AM. Go home.” “wait wait! I have another reason!” “...What.” “ I Came...uuuh...to hang?! :D” “Get the fuck out of my pokémon center, before I send you straight to an actual hospital.”

“Aaah, my fair Virgil...isn’t it amazing how after all those years, I’m now a famous Top coordinator, and you are coming out of your shell and helpng so many people! Isn’t it amazing?!?!” “The only amazing thing here Princey, is how the fuck you managed to actually win the Grand Festival when your moves are still mediocre at best. ;)” “ *offended princey noises* “ WHA- HOW DARE- YOU!! I- “Love ya too princey. Now here. Ariel is completely healed, thank you hope to see you soon. ” “....im not sure if you just want to see ME again, or if you want my pokémon to get hurt.” “And that is what you have to think about for the next contest~ Hope to see you in the judges line soon.”

His relationship with Roman still is...strange. They love eachother tho, no one say anything, they probably will realize by themselves.

Yeah...probably.

He does still love contests and all that, he DID grew up around it. So he often is called to be one of the judges of the contests around, which is something he happily do if he isn’t too busy.

He got Audino from the old nurse Joy that got him to apply in the first place. She was a “new recruit” sended to her, but since she was retiring now that Virgil was taking her place in the Pokémon Center, she decided to let him have her.

Hey, she was purple, he wasn’t complaining.

She also is probably 30% of his emotional control now that he works at the pokémon center, so that is a bonus.

As Joy had said, he was able to keep his old pokémon with him and have them help around the center. Even if neither of them had healing abilities like Audino does, they manage to help in other ways.

Most of the time, they help with bringing itens and medicine he needs, but they also help the trainers around the center to wait for their turn so the whole thing doesn’t become a mess in days where the place is full.

Most people were rather...scared of having a GHOST type like Haunter in a place where it isn’t uncommon to have sick and hurt pokémon. But it didn’t take them long to realize that Virgil’s Haunter was literally the biggest goofball and prankster they had seen. He is AMAZING with baby pokémon and young trainers/children that come around the Pokémon center. There are literally days were schools would bring their pre-school studants to the pokémon center just to see Haunter. Virgil had agreed on it. Haunter definitely is happy to entertain the kids and to help spread that Ghost pokémon aren’t “evil” or something like that.

Mimikyu is ALSO a new addiction to the team, but it’s one that happened BEFORE he went to study. Mimikyu was a gift from one of the other guys to him. Who was that gave him a Mimikyu??? Mimikyu’s type is literally the only and big hint im leaving here. ;)

Mimikyu loves to wear bows, so Virgil always make sure to tie his “uniform” in one. The little guy LOVES it. Mimikyu mainly stays close to Virgil during the day though, helping him more behind the desk than anything. He still isn’t really used to big crowds. Virgil can understand that feeling.

In the harsh light of day the weight of the night before is setting in. My mouth is super dry, my head is pounding and I'm having flashbacks, hot flashbacks but it's hard to concentrate on them with the pain.

I can here a conversation going on, I guess Angus finally got that FaceTime call from his sister. I can hear his end clearly but her replies come through muffled. I focus in on what he is saying and I realise they're talking about me.

"No Immie, Im not going to give you her name"

I get up and move closer to the door, I've never been the kind who listens in on private conversation but considering Im the subject matter I can't stop.

He pulls me in closer and brings his lips to mine, I'm anticipating his kiss but he just opens his mouth and asks "Is there a chance that you're still drunk?"

I shake my head, no

He kisses me, lifting me up off the ground.

"Do you have to be home at a certain time today" Angus enquires.

"No but I do have homework I need to do at some stage this weekend so I will need to get our bags from your office" I reply

"You mean those bags" He asks, pointing to the corner where he's carefully placed both my school bag and Tess' too.

"I was thinking we could drive up the coast to Sulani, I know it's winter but there some great spots to grab lunch on the Island"

I check my phone in the car and I'm surprised to see that I only had 2 missed calls, one from home and the other from Tess. That's very unlike Tess, usually she would just keep calling until I picked up, her record was 35 calls in the space of an hour. I call home first and my mother answers.

"I called before to see if you'll be home for dinner tonight and if Angus would be joining you?"

"How did you know I was with Angus?" I asked, thinking Tess must of ratted me out

"Oh, He called us last night, said you had passed out drunk on his couch and he had put you in his sisters bed. Lovely boy he is, we had a long chat too"

I shoot Angus a look and he just smiles, keeping his eyes on the road.

"So, Im not in trouble?" I ask mum

"Why would you be in trouble, we know you're safe and not lying in a ditch somewhere, plus you're our good girl, we know we don't need to worry about you, unlike Tess"

When I hang up the phone my head is filled with so many questions, like what did they chat about.

"We talked about you Zoey, how you're going to University next year and you're hoping to study medicine" Angus informs me, like he's reading my thoughts, "I didn't know you wanted to become a doctor?" he continues

"My parents want me to become a doctor and don't get me wrong, I wouldn't mind studying medicine, my marks are high enough to get in too but I wouldn't mind becoming a vet either, I love animals, especially dogs" I explain

I wish it was that simple though.

The ferry ride from New Crest to Sulani takes about 40 minutes, the water is choppy and the wind is blowing a gail but Angus holds onto me tightly the whole way.

"This place is beautiful" I say when we arrive, the water is crystal clear and the sand is pure white.

"Yeah it is, I come up here a lot in Summer, we have a house on the beach and locals are so accommodating"

"I need to ask a question and I apologise is advance if it comes out rude but you're 22, how do you own so much property, it's like you hit the motherlode" I ask and he laughs

"Immie was a world renowned scientist. she invented a cloning machine, among other things, made Billions from it, retired at 32 and now travels the world, she comes home in the warmer months, helps me out with the gym but mostly she leaves me in charge of making the big decisions, I've got creative control over everything" He explains.

We walk to The Sand Bar, a small bar with a food stall out front. We put our orders in and find a wicker cane lounge to sit on.

"Ok Zoey, I think it's my turn to ask the personal question" he says, I can hear the reservation in his voice but still he pushes on, "You've talked to me non stop about your relationship with Tess and I've met your Mother and Step Father, who you also seem to be really close to but you've not once mentioned your actual father"

It was a painful subject, a wound that had never healed. I can feel the hot tears welling up in my eyes.

"Oh fuck, Zo, I'm sorry, I shouldn't have brought it up, it's none of my business, forget I've asked. Shit, I wanted to have the best first date with you and now I've ruined it and made you cry." He comforts me, wiping my tears away with a napkin

"It's ok" I assure him, "I cry when I'm angry, I'm not angry at you or that you asked, please don't think that. I'm angry because our father abandoned us, left my mother with nothing, alone to raise to two children on her own. Tess and I were only 10 and he just didn't come home, he moved to Oasis Spings with his girlfriend, Eliza Pancakes and they started a new family together, we never heard from him again"

"You wouldn't even know he once had a wild side, he's so devoted to Mum and is more of father to Tess and I than our biological father ever was"

On the drive home from New Crest I receive a call from Tess.

"Where are you? Im bored and have no-one to talk to" she cries

"I'm about an hour away, I'll be there soon, I promise. I just remembered, I forgot to call you back too, I'm the worst sister in the whole world" I laugh

"You so are Zoey, You get a boyfriend and forget all about me, the real love of your life. Nah, it's all good, I called Angus, I knew you were safe" she assures me.

BOYFRIEND? What? I hadn't thought about that label, it was all too new, I hadn't even had a chance to debrief with Tess. I can feel my breathing starting to become more rapid

"I gotta go...see you soon T"

"I'm pulling over Zoey, just hold on" Angus cries, anticipating my oncoming panic attack.

As soon as the car has safely come to a stop I jump out. The cool evening air hitting my hot cheeks. The attack takes about a minute or two to pass but the shame and embarrassment sticks around.

"Im going to kill your sister" He announces

"It's not her fault, she just has no filter sometimes and get excited" I explain

"I was going to ask you, I just couldn't find the right moment today" He rambles

"Ask me what?" Now Im confused

"To be my Girlfriend, to make this offical, I know it's sudden but I'm not the type to be out there dating multiple girls all at once. I want to be committed to just one girl, to you Zoey, I want you to be my girl?" He asks, sheepishly

"I've never been a Girlfriend before though" I explain
