Strap in. This is a long one.
Tumblr media
I could have broken this into three posts, but it was all served on one plate, so it's all going in one post. Logic.
I bought my meat from a local place, and I do think it improved the quality. Going to try to do that as often as I can afford to for these recipes.
So this meatloaf is fucking massive. Tony says to cook it in "a loaf pan" but I don't know who has a loaf pan big enough for that much meat. Splitting it up would mean fucking with the cook time, so instead I just built myself a loaf pan...
Tumblr media
This is a 2:1 mix of beef and veal. I could have diced the onion and celery a little finer, but my knife isn't so hot and I was honestly doing too many things while cooking this meal. People were texting me time sensitive shit while I was prepping, it was a whole thing. I can find excuses for anything.
Couldn't find the fresh version of the herbs I needed, so I used dried marjoram and some thyme springs I had in my freezer.
Tumblr media
Pretty typical mushroom gravy. Beef stock instead of veal stock. Dicing a pound of mushrooms is quite possibly the most annoying prep task ever.
Tumblr media
Now this one is 2:1 potato and butter. It called for a ricer or a food mill, which I don't have. So I took one for the team and I pressed the cooked potatoes through a perforated strainer. By hand. It took some time. Well worth it though.
Tumblr media
This one, I had the recipe roughly in my head. Hadn't checked the book right before shopping, and I thought it needed pancetta. So I bought a 9 dollar bag of pancetta that I didn't need. Luckily I almost always have bacon at home.
Tumblr media
These are the most butter filled mashed potatoes I've ever made. This meal used an entire pound of butter.
The sprouts were a tiny bit over done, but that's totally on me and my timing being a little off. Will definitely be making these again.
Next time I really need to do my prep the day before. My kitchen is too small for this shit...
Tumblr media
I have to resort to using my toaster as a shelf, and my sponge holder to set my salt down on. My beautiful no name™ brand kosher salt. It'll likely be a recurring object in more than a few of my reviews.
Tumblr media
Everything just about done, kosher salt still at the ready. It feels illegal to take ground meat out of the oven when it's only at 150°, but it really turned out perfectly after resting.
Tumblr media
Not gonna lie, that mushroom gravy looks like a pile of cat puke to me. A few of my friends reassessured me that once you know it's mushrooms, it looks better. I think they're being nice. Look at the fin on those potatoes though. These babies are holding so much butter, it's insane.
| Meatloaf and Mushroom Gravy + Sides |
Taste is a 5 out of 5. Yep, I said it.
Difficulty is a 4 out of 5. If you do all three simultaneously. The potatoes are the hardest part.
Time was about 3 hours, give or take.
This was an amazing plate. The hint of lemon juice on the brussels really cut some of the fat and butter flavour nicely.
Even as leftovers, freaking delicious. It kinda looks like a sad tv dinner - which is totally what he was going for with this recipe - and he nailed it. In the end, I'm not mad that it made such a monster meatloaf. Leftovers for daaays.

Just a Few Interesting Lore Connections in Pikmin
Intro
There’s a lot of points in Pikmin’s lore that connect in interesting ways. Unfortunately, there’s not enough information to connect them in a solid theory. There’s just too many blanks in what we’re given. It’s almost like Minecraft’s quasi-lore (to borrow the term from the YouTube channel Minecraft Ideas Academy), just more frustrating sense this isn’t a sandbox game with infinite possibilities but rather a series that seems to be trying to tell a specific story. So instead of proposing a theory, I’d just like to show off and discuss some of the interesting connections I’ve noticed. In particular, a thread of connections between four enemies encountered across all three mainline games. This will thus be regurgitating a lot of information you may already know, and for that I apologize, but I think it would help theorists to have it all in one spot.
I’ve done my best to organize this by topic, but as some of these connections are circular this proved difficult. I hope the order these are in at least makes some sense.
These connections are made mostly with information that is indisputably canon, coming from the main three games themselves. I also utilize the direct translations of creatures’ Japanese names where relevant. The only disputable points of information are ones obtained from the Prima Guides. These guide books often share information not in the games themselves. They have the Nintendo seal of approval but also contain many errors, leading to fans questioning how canon their unique information is. These points of information will be clearly stated to be Prima material so that those who wish to disregard them can do so easily.
Lastly, I’m heavily relying on the Pikipedia for information I cannot easily find on my own. While it is a high quality source, if there are any errors presented in its information regarding these topics then they may have been repeated here. This is especially true for translations of Japanese text, which I do occasionally utilize here.
The Mamuta
The Mamuta is an optional boss in Pikmin, who can be fought at the Impact Site on even-numbered days starting on day 8. This rock-like beast will pound pikmin into the ground, planting them and immediately converting them all into flowers. The enemy reel in Pikmin states that it likes flowers “… only for their decorative properties”, and in Pikmin 2 Olimar states that “...the mamuta is the only species so far known to actually cultivate fields of plants.” In Pikmin, Olimar also states that “[The mamuta] seems to be a gentle, flower-loving creature…” (all maybe implying higher-level thought? Maybe???) In line with this, the mamuta found in Pikmin is neutral towards Olimar and the pikmin, attacking only if attacked first (it will also attack Olimar if he attempts to pluck any buried pikmin sprouts). However, the mamutas in Pikmin 2 are more hostile and will attack any pikmin or leaders it sees. It is unknown if this is a retcon made for game play reasons, a retcon from writers wanting to tell a different story, or a canon occurrence of the creatures’ nature changing between games.
The most interesting thing about these creatures is that the pattern displayed on their wrists is somewhat similar to the one wrapping around the onions. (The Pikipedia states them to be identical, but after looking at them myself that doesn’t seem to be the case – far from it, actually.) Lastly is a point pulled from the Prima Guide, so the canonicity is debatable, but the guidebook states its technical name to be “The Great Protector (God of All Pikmin)”.

That went from 0 to 100 really fast, but I mention all of these because they indicate a relationship between the Mamuta and the pikmin. One that was once positive, though it’s unclear if it changed in the actual timeline of the Pikmin series or if the developers decided they wanted to tell a different story after Pikmin was already released. Unfortunately, it is hard to discern anything else from the pikmins’ normal relationship to the Mamuta as there isn’t enough points on this thread to give a clear answer. I specify “normal relationship” because the next point on this thread leads to the Smoky Progg.
The Smoky Progg
The enemy reel in Pikmin states that the Smoky Progg is “Thought to be a malformed larval Mamuta.” There’s a lot that can be debated regarding that point alone, to the point I feel including it would make this post longer than it needs to be. All I’ll say in regards to this is that the Pikmin series is one that values fun and interesting ideas over scientific accuracy, and if players can suspend their disbelief at the impossibility of Planet Hocotate’s rings then we can do the same for how possible it really is that the Progg may indeed be the offspring of a Mamuta. The Prima guide also supports a connection of some kind at least, as the book labels this beast as the “Piku-Lord (Lord of Pikmin)”. Again the title is… extreme, but it is also interesting if nothing else.
The Progg is an aggressive optional boss found in the Distant Spring before day 15, able to instantly kill pikmin with its poisonous gas. It can also use its roar to uproot pikmin from the ground just to kill them, a complete inverse of what the Mamuta does for the pikmin. Its egg if found in the center of a group of islands shaped like a flower, potentially calling back to the Mamuta’s love of flowers. When killed, it drops a golden pearl-like object that is able to create 100 pikmin – rather ironic in a way, given how the Mamuta cares for the pikmin and the Progg is a malformed Mamuta. From here, we can connect the Smoky Progg to two other points, though I’ll admit the threads connecting them are rather weak (which is why I’m merely pointing out their existence and not trying to craft a theory out of this).
One: The Waterwraith. The Waterwraith is a technically optional boss (required only for the true ending of the game) found in the Perplexing Pool, which is heavily implied (if not stated, but I don’t feel like going through Olimar’s treasure notes right now) to be the Distant Spring after a series of rapid changes. Upon the wraith’s death it drops the plukaphone, an upgrade that allows you to pick pikmin from the ground using your whistle. In this way the pluckaphone is similar to the Progg’s roar. Because the plukaphone is merely dropped by the wraith and does not reflect any of its own abilities, it is entirely possible that this connection is a coincidence caused by the devs attempting to balance what bosses drop what upgrades (or in better wording, the upgrade and boss may have been developed separately, and the pluckaphone was assigned to the wraith later on based on the usefulness of the upgrade compared to the difficulty of the cave). This is where the direct connections between these two enemies end, however we will next discuss an enemy both the Smoky Progg and Waterwraith have connections to.
Two: The Plasm Wraith. The Plasm Wraith is the final boss of Pikmin 3, a monster that obsesses over Olimar for unknown reasons. Its arena has rocks embedded in the floor in the rough shape of a flower, somewhat similar to the islands of the Smoky Progg. However I will admit the resemblance is rather weak. The wraith itself seems to be made of gold, much like the pearl that the Progg drops. However, once again this is where the direct connections end.

While these are very weak connections, their existence is very interesting with a lot of lore and theory possibilities.
The Wraiths
Quite obviously, both the Plasm Wraith and Waterwraith are classified as, well, wraiths – spirits or ghosts. The relevance of the fact there is a space in “Plasm Wraith” and not “Waterwraith” is unclear. The Waterwraith is stated by Olimar in Pikmin 2 to be a “...ectoplasmic incarnation of a kind of psychic phenomenon”, a psychic phenomenon being “phenomena that appear to contradict physical laws and suggest the possibility of causation by mental processes” as defined by The Free Dictionary (tossing that definition in there mostly because I find it fascinating). However, in Pikmin 3 Deluxe Olimar states that “[The Plasm Wraith] reminds me very much of the Waterwraith, and at first I wondered if it was also an ectoplasmic incarnation. However, enough others have seen and encountered it to dispel this theory.” What does this mean? Again, I’m just gathering interesting points of information.
Now, a quick note on how the Japanese names seem to work before I move on. Each enemy is listed on the Pikipedia as having a “Japanese name” and a “Japanese nickname”, effectively giving us more names (and in turn, more information) to work with. Most English speaking players are more familiar with enemies’ Japanese nicknames, so I’ll be sure to distinguish them as needed.
The Plasm Wraith and Waterwraith have similar Japanese nicknames. The Plasm Wraith’s nickname is アメニュウドウ (Ame Nyuudou), translating directly to “candy bald head”. To be more specific, ニュウドウ/Nyuudou/”bald head” is used to refer to bald-headed yōkai (put very simply, a type of Japanese spirit). The Waterwraith’s nickname is アメボウズ (Ame Bouzu), which also translates to “candy bald head”, though this time ボウズ/Bouzu refers to monks, meaning “candy monk” is another possible translation of its nickname. The katakana for bouzu is also similar to the katakana for umibōzu, a particular type of yōkai said to live in the ocean. In fact, I’m pretty sure that “umibōzu” can be translated as “sea monk”, but I don’t really know any Japanese. I’ve only been able to share this much thanks to the Pikipedia. I mention all of this mostly to confirm that the association between wraiths is indeed intended by the original writers (see how the Crammed Wraith has a name connection to the Plasm Wraith and Waterwraith in English, but no such connection is found in the original Japanese name or nickname for the Crammed Wraith – instead, the Japanese version connects the Crammed Wraith to the more common Hermit Crawmad enemies). Also, these names have already given rise to the “umibōzu theory” as to why the wraiths do… wraithy things. I’m not getting into that here though.
It is also worth noting that the katakana for “candy”, “ame”, is also the katakana for “rain”. The game is programmed to force rain on days you are fighting the Plasm Wraith, while the Waterwraith is… water. Just a neat note.
I also find it noteworthy that the Waterwraith is the only wraith to have a scientific name, as the Plasm Wraith was never given one in Pikmin 3 DX. The Waterwraith’s scientific name is Amphibio sapiens, implying a connection between it and humans – Homo sapiens. Both it and the Plasm Wraith take on oddly humanoid forms. While it has no scientific name, Olimar does state the following regarding the Plasm Wraith: “It's currently unknown what caused the hole in its torso—some sort of manifested psychic wound?—but the search for this cause may lead us down the path to unraveling the history of evolution on this planet.” The Plasm Wraith’s Japanese name is セイヨウコガネアメビト/Seiou Kogane Amebito, which translates directly to “Western European Golden Rain Man”. This isn’t necessarily a direct connection between those two points, but let’s be real: it’s too interesting not to at least mention them in the same paragraph.
And while we’re here: the Japanese name for the Waterwraith is ヤマトアメビト(Yamato Amebito) which translates to "Yamato Rain Man". Just strengthens previous connections pointed out, but probably worth mentioning.
The Plasm Wraith Specifically
Time to use music to make connections. As a result these are fairly loose, but worth mentioning anyways.
In its “mysterious life-form mode”, the Plasm Wraith has a dynamic track. That is to say, the music changes to reflect the situation. This is most noticeable when it gets too close to Olimar: a warning tone will slowly get louder and louder based on how close it is to the captain. But if it does manage to capture Olimar, it’s not yet over! You can attack the beast to make it relinquish him. After successfully defeating it, it will enter a “cool-down” state where you’re given a chance to get away from it. You can listen to the entire track here, with the “cool-down” song starting at the 3 minute mark. This “cool-down” song uses bells, similar to the ones that the Formidable Oak’s sunset theme (links to song) uses. Thus it is possible that these bells and the wraith are associated in some way.
The Oak’s rainy theme also references The Final Trial’s theme (each link will take you to the area’s respective song). The Final Trial from Pikmin has two parts: the “creepy” part and the “hopeful” part which overlap with one another to give a vibe fitting for this final area. As the Formidable Oak’s theme is usually just creepy, I find it rather charming that the hopeful half only comes into play when it rains in the desert. And then sunset hits (once again, a link to the song). The hopeful tune of The Final Trial is instead played with the bells I mentioned earlier, making the once hopeful part sound distorted and creepy. I’m mostly mentioning this because it’s super cool and has a lot of implications on its own, but it is yet another way the Plasm Wraith is able to link back to the first Pikmin game.
I’ll also mention that the final boss of Olimar’s Comeback is a golden monster (or rather two golden monsters) that isn’t the Plasm Wraith (maybe??? Probably not but possible I guess) but fought in its arena and whose boss theme references a song from the first Pikmin game – this time the title theme. I don’t think mentioning this adds much, but it may still be worth it to bring up.
The Goolix
The Goolix is an optional boss in Pikmin who appears in the Impact Site on odd-numbered days starting on day 9. It is hard to say if it really has any connection with the Mamuta as it simply just seems to share one habitat with it. This creature is made entirely of water and has two nuclei suspended in its gel-like mass. Its watery composition makes many to connect it to the Waterwraith, but no further connection can be made. It looks like an amoeba, a creature that the Plasm Wraith’s and Waterwraith’s Japanese nicknames may be referencing with “ame” (note that in katakana “amoeba” is spelled “ameba”).
The connections are there. I’m just not sure how to make them fit in with the rest of this odd web I’ve found, as it leads to its own dead end.
What About the Geiger Counter?
This thing is just too broad, and can be applied to so many things in Pikmin in so many ways. But these applications rely on so many headcanons due to the large blanks in Pikmin lore.
Okay, lets step back a bit. The Geiger Counter is an item from Pikmin that is a required part of Olimar’s spaceship. He states that he doesn’t know what it really does (as he never read the manual), just that it’s always going off. Indeed, we do see it constantly detecting something and can hear it making noise whenever we go near it. He may want to read that manual at some point, as in real life Geiger counters are used to measure radiation levels. The fact that it is always going off indicates that there are large amounts of radiation on PNF-404 (at least in the areas Olimar explores). An equally possible (if boring) answer is that it simply broke during the crash landing. I have also seen people propose that Hocotations use it to measure oxygen levels given how deadly oxygen is to them and that it always going off is because PNF-404 has deadly levels of oxygen.
However, that's it. There might be radiation on PNF-404. What caused it to be so abundant, we don’t know. Nuclear bombs is the most common cause applied, both by Pikmin fans and in post-apocalyptic media in general. But it doesn't have to be the only answer – after all, Olimar did explore only a small portion of PNF-404 with the Geiger Counter in tow. How do we know its not just that part of the planet that is irradiated? What if the radiation is from an abandoned nuclear power plant? The truth is that we don’t know. All we know is that PNF-404 is Earth after the humans vanished for an unknown reason, leaving behind their ruins and garbage and maybe even radiation… and maybe possibly wraiths but that’s theory territory.
And this isn’t even getting into the fact that the ways in which radiation are used in media are often super unrealistic, resulting in radiation being a sort of “cure all” for plot holes and plot conveniences. This could mean literally anything Nintendo needs it to so long as it exists within the suspension of disbelief.
Conclusion: What Does This All Mean?
I don’t know. That’s my point in making this: there isn’t enough here to craft a super solid theory regarding the relationship between these four enemies. There’s only enough to indicate that there is (probably) a relationship. I mostly just wanted to gather my thoughts here in one space so that more daring folk could have a crack at this. And who knows, if we get a Pikmin 4 it may give us more points to make a theory. Or maybe just more loose ends, who knows. Either way, I wish well to anyone who decides to try and tie these threads together, and I hope this has been useful. Or at least entertaining.

homemade banh cuon
Originally, I was going to post this as a photo post but I decided no. .. it’s gonna be long, I think lol so I made it into a text post.
Take a look at this spread =D !!
Tumblr media
This was in mid-June, at my friend DQ’s parents’ home.
I used to play badminton quite regularly with DQ - until she moved to Montreal a few yrs ago & *counting fingers* .. . we haven’t seen each other IRL for almost 5 yrs!!! She was here visiting her family & friends, & she invited me over for dinner bcos it was just easier (she has 2 kids: one turning 3 in Sept & one is just a few months old).
Her mom prepped most of the stuff already but I did help roll a few banh cuon’s. It was so good!!
Okay, now I’m gonna about banh cuon.
Banh cuon is a Vietnamese dish, & it is basically the Vietnamese version of Cantonese dimsum item “cheung fun”, aka Vietnamese rice rolls. You use (pre-steamed) rice paper to wrap pork & other things inside, & then it’s eaten with some greens & either dipped &/or drizzled with fish sauce. I say rice paper bcos it’s easier to understand but it’s not the type of rice paper you’re imagining (the spring roll or salad rolls kinds). It comes from a rice flour batter, & is poured onto a tray & steamed into a thin sheet. The ones at DQ’s home were purchased from an Asian frozen foods shop called Delta Foods. I have yet to visit this place... but they have frozen & fresh noodles & other items like dimsum as well. I will visit this place soon & try making banh cuon at home too!
The filling.. . traditionally, it contains a mixture of pork, fresh &/or dried shrimp, & onion. These are the most common, from what I’ve read. DQ’s mom used pork, onion, & wood-ear fungus so it’s kinda juicy & a bit crunchy as well. As for garnishes, basil, mint, bean sprouts, cucumber, lettuce. .. what’s not in the photo is this heavenly fried shallot oil that came from DQ’s aunt. She deep fries the shallots & puts it in oil & somehow, the shallots stays crunchy! o_O that stuff was so good!!  * the prepared fish sauce by DQ’s mom has sugar + water + regular fish sauce + fresh lemon juice.
Note: restaurants typically do not use fresh lemon/lime juice in their ‘prepared’ fish sauce mixture that they refrigerate bcos the solution will turn murky over time & it’s not visually appealing when it is served. But if it’s freshly made, they will (or they will cheap out & use the bottled juice). Since this fish sauce was homemade the morning of, you can see in the background that it’s slightly murky bcos she used the real stuff!
With the leftover rice papers, we ripped it into smaller pieces so it’s just basically shreds of rice paper. With these, we kind of made a ‘salad’ out of it, mixing all the garnishes with Vietnamese deli meat. Also very tasty!
Thank you for the meal =D
PS: auntie packed me a box to take home hehe

New Monster Ideas
In the Pink Human AU, there are a few more monsters that we didn't get to see in Undertale. A few are of my own design; a few others are based on cut content from Toby that I've altered to fit into the Pink Human's story. They are:
1. Gourdin (mine, enemy) -> like vegetoid, but throws rings and gourds and shoots squiggly lines across the attack box. It looks like a spaghetti squash with four little legs and a smiling jack-o-lantern face. Their tail is a little vine ending in a squash leaf. Gourdin is one of the monsters that uses PINK attacks. It wants to be a "squash" player, although it doesn't realize squash is a sport. Gourdin hates sports. But it likes sprouts! They're present in the Ruins, and they don't like Vegetoid (despite their similar veggie themes...maybe because squash are actually fruits, not veggies!)
2. Cepapod (mine, enemy) -> tears and onion rings attack the protagonist. Cepapod is a monster found in Waterfall. It is a mix of "cepa", the Latin word for "onion", and a "cephlapod". It resembles a large onion on its side woth roots that resemble tentacles. It is another monster that uses PINK attacks. Given its name/theme, it might be related to Onionsan. It wants to start a band and is a very good drummer.
3. Gerry (mine, enemy) -> a creepy version of Jerry who is a brony/anime freak, found in Hotland. I don't know why I came up with him. He sucks. I don't wanna talk about him anymore. You can imagine what he looks and acts like......probably shaped like a fedora. Probably acts like Toby's original Papyrus ideas.
4. Mouse Man (mine, uses candy cane to walk) -> NPC in Snowdin. When in a battle with Gyftrot, they might have a small, striped cane stuck in their horns. When you remove it, the flavour text describes an attached note that says "I use this little cane to walk". In the Pink Human AU, a tiny mouse-like monster is present in Snowdin and the protag can give him his cane back. Or they can eat it as a healing item. Grateful to have his cane back, Mouse Man will give the protag 10 G. He also vows to stay away from teenagers.
5. Love Crab (cut, enemy, pink attacks) -> a crab with a heart on it that wants to cuddle, based in Waterfall. Based a bit in the crab from the show Bee and Puppycat (if you know you know), it is another monster that uses PINK attacks, this time in the form of tiny projectile hearts and pinching claws. It walks sideways, as crabs do, and it wants to befriend everyone it meets. To beat it, you have to let it get rid of your PP (Pink Points/Protection Points). It will then use a green attack similar to the Royal Guards, or Tsunderplane. If you try to run, it tells you that you can't escape love.
Tumblr media
6. Frowning Jester (cut, explains orange attacks in Waterfall) -> The NPC that was supposed to explain orange attacks never even got a physical design if their own, and Toby says he just forgot to integrate the frowning jester character, so why not combine the two? Unlike the smiling Naracat Jester in Snowdin, this frowning jester refuses to smile in these troubling times (since, they say, "There isn't anything to smile about, so why bother?"). There is also cut dialogue of the orange attacks being explained:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
7. Coraler (cut) -> a humanoid monster made of coral, present in Waterfall. Smaller pieces of coral say "We're his family". I thought of something sinister when I decided to add this character to the AU, but decided not to go through with it. The name "Coraler" makes it sound like "someone who corals"...I thought maybe the reason the small corals say they're his "family" is because they were other monsters Coraler turned into coral. But, uh, that's too dark. So instead he just stands there and introduces his family, kinda like the Temmie's introducing their friend(s). And the tiny corals just say "We're his family". And that's literally it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
8. Larpy (LARP Harpy, cut, enemy, pink attacks) -> describes narration like you're in an RPG game, casts "fireball" and other elemental attacks. It is kinda funny to have an NPC cast "pretend" magic spells when she's a monster that can cast actual magic. Larpy doesn't mean any harm, she just wants someone to play with. She used to play with Madjick, Knight Knight, and Whimsalot, but they got separated when the puzzles in Hotland were reactivated. She has the chance to appear in battle with other enemies. However, Tsunderplane and Pyrope thing she's weird and will leave when the battle starts. Vulkin will stay to encourage her.
Tumblr media
I'm not a fan of Toby's original idea for Larpy's sprite, which may be one of the reasons she was cut from the game to begin with. I would redesign it to be cuter.
Those are all my ideas for the Pink Human AU monsters/NPCs so far. Next I'll post about pink attacks and the pink SOUL mode.

free space for you to talk about literally anything you want! rant about something?? write out a thought that you haven’t had the time to translate into words?? post the song lyrics or poetry you scribbled on the back of a paper?? idk just whatever you want. you’re cool :)
Oh oh this is perfect!! Also thank you, being cool is such a lovely descriptor!! Anyway, all the searching through my camera roll for pet photos recently has taken me back very far
Far enough that I ended up seeing some of my old photos of art from an intro level art class I took back in spring 2021, and looking at it I went…this is kinda good! But the only person whose ever seen it is that professor, so I’ve been considering sharing some!! And now you’ve given me the perfect opportunity!!!
i haven't included any of the reference photos I used for the art, but if you'd want to see them I can share them as well. Moving forward, I’ll put everything under a cut to save space :)
(all IDs are in alt text)
Okay so this one's a negative space drawing of some plants! Fun fact the one on the far left is an onion that had sprouted because we hadn't eaten in in time, because at the time I didn't have a third houseplant I could use for the reference and I needed 3
Tumblr media
This one is a line weight drawing of a glass jar filled with water, a wyvern figurine, and an ornament! The ornament shows up a lot because it was required
Tumblr media
This was just some notebooks, cloth, an ornament, a jar, and a piece of folded paper. A random arrangement drawn in charcoal but I think it looks nice. the cloth in the back is actually a pillowcase because that's what I had on hand:
Tumblr media
And then this is another random arrangement of things, but this time drawing with white on black paper instead of the other way around! And it's got a twilight book in it so :) very me
Tumblr media
then this one was done on a scratchboard! essentially I used an exacto knife to scratch away the black and reveal the white to draw this owl:
Tumblr media
this isn't everything I drew in that class, as some of it is mundane line exercises and such, and some of it just didn't turn out in a way I'm proud of.
like my final. ugh. the requirements for that one fucked me over because she wanted us to have a certain number of things in the piece, but in doing so I was just cramming things into the composition. The sketch was cool! But the inking...not so much. I might still have the sketch if you're interested
but yeah!! these are some of my realism art pieces/studies from that one art class I took to fill a credit over a year ago. that class actually turned out to be my most difficult and stressful one that semester due to executive dysfunction, but I learned a few helpful tricks :)
thank you for the opportunity to share them, Nonsie! I miss doing art more often, so I can't wait to explore it again when the wings au is finished
hope you enjoyed! i will now be taking compliments about how cool and awesome and talented I am (that's a joke you don't need to do that)

Interesting and cool objects
The white blade - also known by fancier names such as The angel's cry, The white death and The divine's apology (Or any Mashup of those). It's a lengthy, crescent shaped blade with an ornate, intricately detailed handle. The handle contains things such as prayers, curses, divine commands and profanity. All of this is carved in small text that can only be read in a very certain way, and only by angels (or very specific demons). Decorations on the handle also include a long haired weeping humanoid, whose hair and tears dissolve into an ocean pattern. By shape, the handle is interesting to grip, seeing as how it's bubbly and bumpy, but it adjusts to the wielder. The blade is of course, pure white, and very reflective, being an almost perfect mirror. It emits light when in the presence of angels, and becomes a sort of liquid material that's hard to describe by scientific terms. The way it adjusts to whoever wields it, is not only by size and whatever limb is used to grip it, but also function. While it's most usually a blade, it can also morph into scissors and a meathook for example. The blade was crafted by an infamous fallen angel who switched sides at a certain point in her life and became the Pride district's Judgement (at the time). The blade was forged specifically after falling, and it's primary purpose was a weapon that could truly hurt angels, in the way only an angel would know how. It was also made specifically safe for demons to use, but to wield it you do require a certain amount of grace and knowledge about the blade. Perhaps the most famous case of the blade's use was to cut the angel Iskayah in half as retribution. After that the blade has been lost, demons argue that the angels stole it and the angels argue that it was destroyed during the act. It's current residence is actually in the Void district but only Judgement Hart knows of this. They took it under their care, since the fallen angel was a good friend of theirs.
The sprout of renewal - a slightly larger than average onion bulb, very unassuming and ordinary looking on the surface. It has three small buds emerging from it. It's ambiguous as to what plant the onion is from, most common guesses are leek or tulip. One of the few telling unusual features, is that those who wish to destroy or misuse the Sprout, suffer from it smelling like paralysingly strong garlic. Even if one didn't have a sense of smell, it'll hit your eyes or mouth in some way. Those who wish to use it's powers for good, or are unaware of them, describe no smell emitted from it. The sprout will only grow and flourish in completely dead, barren soil. If planted in normal fertile soil it stays completely unchanged. This is due to it having the power to regrow and revive dead barren lands, and return flourishing flora native to it. Even if planted into a garbage dump, it'll work it's magic and recycle everything in one way or the other, and make it a beautiful greenery. The sprout only has three uses, hence the three buds on it. After that it dissolves into the last place it was used. It'll regrow itself from the resulting plants it caused, but this will take anywhere from 10 to 90 years. If the greenery around it is destroyed beyond salvage during this time though, the sprout will die for good. It's origin is unclear at best. Amongst human legends, the bulb of renewal is considered to be the property of The Slumbering titan Torpor, specifically it's active form, Fervor. Whether she actually owns it or not hasn't been confirmed or denied. The sprout tends to get carted from place to place, obviously due to lots of people wanting to use it.
The Godkiller - a bombastically named scythe, previously known as The golden thorn, and before that known as The rageforged. All the separate names are due to the fact that the scythe has been stolen from user to user multiple times. It's not entirely clear what it's original name and owner was. Although most suspect the original name to be The rageforged, obviously because of the word forged being included in it. It's a relatively short scythe (in scythe standards), which is gold at least in color, material is more complicated to figure out. It's blade is curved a bit at the end, giving it a fish hook shape. The handle ends into a sharp point. A little before the blade begins, the scythe has a row of spikes for extra pain to inflict on whoever it's used, although this also makes it tricky and slightly risky to wield. The scythe isn't known to have any significant supernatural qualities, other than a spell of resilience which guarantees it'll last functional for a long time. The current wielder is the abomination Unjust, who has it attached to her severed arm. She performed the 'operation' herself. She stole it from an entity called Avarice, who is a member of the Dissing order only technically, though not part of the family. Avarice hasn't made significant attempts to get it back, since he also stole it from it's previous wielder, but they have very fiery relations with Unjust. It's more personal, than about the actual object by this point. The current name gives the scythe a largely exaggerated image, since on a large scale it's not actually all that impressive of a weapon, just well known. The reason for the current name is apparently because "It's not telling of what it has done, but it is telling of what it will do".
The shield of neutrality - also known as the Persecutors shield, or more briefly Neutral shield. It's a large, wide shield, possible to be hand-wielded but also attached to the body. It's black in color but has a silver shine to it when light reflects on it. It's not very impressive looking, which is largely intentional. Created to match and combat the staffs hell's high judgements have, to be wielded by the Persecutor. In older times, the Persecutor was partially in charge of governing the neutral district but the practice has been lost to time. The shield remained nonetheless and was in active use up until a few generations ago, where it was lost due to the unexpected passing of it's current wielder. Of course others see it as lost, but High judgement Hart has it in their possession, tucked away and forgotten somewhere. The shield is only slightly newer than the staffs, having been created a bit after them due to political conflict. Symbolically it's purpose and meaning is to shield it's wielder from any harmful biases others may try to inflict on them, to cloud their judgment. It detects lies, or whenever someone is trying to twist the narrative to their benefit. The way it does this is autonomously moving closer to it's wielder, and sort of bucking at the direction of whoever is trying to distort the situation. As if protecting it's user. It can become scalding hot or freezing cold depending on what's needed. It's, quite obviously, a very effective shield against the judgement staffs. Regardless of the wielders strength or ability, it cannot be broken by any of them. It's not invincible of course, as a shield it physically has it's limits, but it specifically will not take a scratch of damage from the judgment staffs. If it detects it's wielder to be injured or unable to move it on their own, it moves by itself at least for as long as the Persecutor is alive. A few stumbling blocks to the shield is that it tends to detect most all biases, harmful or neutral. The Persecutors have been trained extremely carefully to detect which is which (according to whatever code of honor they've had at the time). But oftentimes it's really not up to the shield to decide what perspective should and shouldn't affect the Persecutors decision, unless it's something actively malicious or destructive. Nonetheless it works as a tool to aid the so called Neutral Judgment, and not only to make sure justice occurs for the doomed souls, but also the inhabitants of hell itself

i just want dune 3 to end with paul walking off into the desert. that ending image just resonates so strongly with me: paul atriedes fucking off, leaving behind fire and ashes behind him.
chani’s dead. he has two newborn children. hayt’s regained his memories. irulan has realised she’s in love with paul. alia doesn’t wish to be alone.
and what does paul do? blind, unable to see the future anymore paul atreides?
he just leaves.
so leto ii has to pick up the pick the slack, be the sandworm, and be a tyrant for 4000 years, in a green paradise that paul was meant to be

Character Intro: Tithonus (Kingdom of Ichor)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Nicknames- The Bug Whisperer by Hermes
Jitters by Aphrodite
Crawly by Chelone
Age- 19 (immortal)
Location- Hearthwood neighborhood, New Olympus
Personality- He's a shy introverted guy of a few words. He's generally non confrontational and is more open & honest through texts than face to face communication. He's currently single.
He has the standard abilities of a god. As the god of insects, he can summon/shapeshift into/communicate with all species of insects. Other powers/abilities include web generation, wall crawling, web breath, silk generation, pestilence manipulation (locusts), parasite creation, honey generation & manipulation, compound eyes, antenna protrusion, becoming a living hive (transforming his entire physical body into a swarm of insects), and being able to adopt features of any particular insect to his physical form (like being able to produce venom and having four extra legs- like a spider, or generating stingers from his fists- like a bee).
Tithonus lives in a spacious house in the Hearthwood neighborhood of New Olympus. There's a few acres of gardens as well as an apple tree. He has a wide array of different species of insects as pets- including a tarantula named Webster. Inside, the color scheme are shades of cream, blue, green, light brown, & yellow. He's a fan of using humidifiers and there's decorations of golden ornate bugs along the walls. There's lots of bug shaped furniture (including a caterpillar shaped bed in his bedroom).
His favorite color is light green.
He's also a great ukulele player and he can play the mandolin.
Tithonus loves snacking on kiwis, pears, & green grapes!
Tithonus started his life as a young mortal guy living in Troy and working on a small farm. Things changed when he got swept up in a relationship with Eos (Titaness of dawn). Their time together was short, fiery, & passionate. They once spent a month on a private beach on Shimmering Tail Island & he had sex with her for the first time in a nearby cove. Word of the relationship made its way back to Eos' father Hyperion (Titan god of heavenly light). To spare him her father's wrath, she went to Zeus for help & he ended up turning Tithonus into a cicada- where he remained as such for a few hundred years before he was offered the chance at immortality and to become a part of the pantheon. He and Eos ended things not too long after he was officially made into a god.
His go-to drink is a honeydew smoothie. He also likes sparkling water, cucumber infused water, beer, the grasshopper (a drink made with heavy cream, creme de cacao, & creme de menthe), lemon-lime soda, cucumber martinis, and pineapple-coconut margaritas.
In Olympius, Tithonus has his main business- a few insectariums (live insect zoos). He also has his own merch which includes bug themed T-shirts, sweatshirts, & rubber phone cases as well as a bug spray brand called Ecoshield, which is non toxic to beings and insects.
He usually gets around in his teal VW bug (which is environmentally friendly) or by riding his bike.
His favorite frozen treat is the salted honey ice cream. He buys a few pints of them at the supermarket.
He's a fan of the cleaning products brand Pure Clean Co., started by Hygieia (goddess of hygiene & cleanliness)- which are all natural, plant based, and most importantly, non-toxic to bugs & insects.
His favorite meal is the breakfast burrito (added with sharp cheddar cheese, spinach, potatoes, & guacamole). He also likes the wheat bread veggie sub (made with a chive and onion spread, mashed avocado, spinach, cucumbers, kale, lettuce, sprouts, and tomatoes) along with the split pea soup and mighty greens salad (topped with walnuts & pomegranate seeds) from The Bread Box.
Tithonus has very few friends in the pantheon. He's friendly with Matton (god of meals), Techne (goddess of arts, crafts, & invention), Eurus (god of the east wind), and Chelone (goddess of tortoises)- having become quite close with her, as they share many similarities. He sometimes finds himself looking up Eos' profile on Fatestagram- being more than surprised when he discovered that she was dating Ares (god of war). Tithonus used to have huge crushes on Hestia (goddess of the hearth) and Livádi (goddess of meadows). His official mentor was Gaia (goddess of the earth).
Some of his favorite desserts include hummingbird cake & carrot cake from Hollyhock's Bakery. He can also make peanut butter chocolate chip cookies made from cricket flour.
In his free time Tithonus enjoys bike riding, gardening, surfing, beekeeping, yoga, acupuncture, painting, reading, and doing pottery.
"Bugs are the real individualists of the animal kingdom."

Garden Log #4/17/2024 - Evening
I'm only a little annoyed that my browser crashed while I was writing this text post (I hadn't typed much yet), so I will try to write it out again. :P
For starters: drip irrigation kits! I understand why someone recommended just getting the cheapest one as a starter because it's really just a way to learn how to hook everything up and what pieces you actually need for your uses. I'm a little more than halfway finished with a basic setup and everything is working like it's supposed to.
As I was setting the tubing up, I did sneak some peeks at some of the things I've planted and I noticed at least one onion is shooting, the single garlic I moved the dirt around to check has rooted (I didn't know that's what garlic did and was checking for rot/dryness), the potatoes have all developed roots, and the two different dahlia roots I planted are also starting to grow new shoots even though I definitely thought I'd killed them by not watering enough on those random ass summer heat days. The cherry tomatoes are still alive, and the sunflowers are doing really great, as well.
The only thing (in the garden itself) not showing any progress are the marigold seeds, but a store-bought packet I found says the germination time is 10-14 days, and I only planted them a few days ago.
I think some of the catnip and rosemary I planted it starting to sprout, and my cabbage sprouts are looking really nice. When I get the drip irrigation set up I will try to transplant the cabbage/broccoli and plant lettuce, spinach, radish, beets, beans, and a bunch of miscellaneous herbs and flowers that are supposed to be good companions for more of the garden. I'm really excited to plant the white yarrow sprouts because even the seeds had an amazing smell, and hopefully my chamomile seeds will germinate soon, too.
I'm going to be a lot more careful with how I store my seeds this year so I won't have to spend so much on restocking again OTL
Oh! I forgot to mention because I'd already typed it out in my other text post attempt that I finally planted the seeds that needed planted! Finally!!! I do also plan to replant some herbs that are having trouble germinating from last year's seeds, but I won't need to go through as much trouble with the seed starting mix.
I also found a packet of Parisian Market carrots that I'm a little excited for because they basically look like orange radishes and should be easy to grow anywhere there's open space in the garden and I've never grown carrots before.
I'll need to make sure I get the electric fence put up tomorrow because the cats are trying to use my garden as a litter box and I'm also worried opossums or raccoons will bite or pull out my irrigation tubing or dig out the bulbs and tubers
The game-plan for tomorrow should be: 1) finish setting up irrigation, 2) finish setting up the electric fence, 3) plant whatever I remember to plant where spacing allows, 4) fix ripped greenhouse screen windows
Tumblr media
I just found out that tumblr autosaves posts as drafts... but I already typed all this out and I'm not about to edit it all just for something I already went over.

no comedian
In the morning the dawn was special and a mist mingled in the woodland with the initial sprouts of leaves on the spring trees and he watched it all with wonder from his window.
And for some reason his mood plummeted. Down all of these drops, these caves and tunnels, and he couldn’t stop falling. He imagined all of these memories as if they were still real. Just could not handle the past and all he did, to combat it, as he fell, was poison himself. And then sleep.
For a few hours. Not real sleep, mock-rest, just a cessation of the body: but at least that’s what it achieved.
Then there was the afternoon. Bicycles and car horns elsewhere in the suburb and a shout and jingle of folks and dogs and of course the psychotic birdsong in bells and trills. And none of it could cheers him. For hours, he was just violently miserably. Against himself: Down as Hell. Couldn’t lift himself up, and yet he wasn’t falling anymore.
By early evening he ate some sandwiches. White onions. Then tried to sleep again. He couldn’t. Wasn’t quite possible, his mind all raging.
So he gave up with that but somewhere amongst the hours of that second sitting it got dark and something changed in his thinking. A joke – somewhere in the past. We all must have moments that make us giggle. And he giggled, in the darkness.
He was no comedian [probably the antithesis of that] but he was able to laugh.
Opening his phone, he found that his friend had texted him. His mate was a charismatic, clever chap; and he thought that he should appreciate the small things which were really big, if you considered them: because at least he had a friend, and wasn’t entirely alone.
Because – he’d gone on all day with this morose macabre misery about the past. And then in the evening, there was this friend texting him about some silly funny stuff. You know – internet banter, soccer news, whatever, trivial things. They cheered him up.
Then he wondered why he’d been so pessimistic for fourteen hours.
Ah well. It just happens sometimes. He was not a perfect man. But he was still alive, for now.
