I am constantly reminded that a lot of people who are really into fps games have very confusing and counterproductive ideas about what an online multiplayer experience should be like. the vibe keeps coming back to "if the game isn't letting me pubstomp freely then it's bad" and it's very jarring

like it's not just an fps thing and these people do exist in other genres of competitive multiplayer games, but coming from FGC circles I'm so used to like, sportsmanship being a factor in how people think about competition. like if you want to just steamroll through a game with little resistance play singleplayer/co-op games or play bots in tf2 or something, but in multiplayer settings, you have to have some level of respect for the other people in a lobby and understand that they're also there to have a good time.

...which is why sbmm is good! when implemented competently it makes sure that everyone in a lobby is of comparable skill and has an equal chance to learn and do something cool! nothing is more demotivating in a competitive game than being on a receiving end of a pubstomp, and games should try to make sure new players don't just get fed repeatedly into meat grinders for better players' amusement! gah!!

#the concept of sweat gets such a bad rap in some of these circles man #like sweat is the entire point of choosing a competitive game over a co-op or singleplayer one #or something completely arbitrary and insane like a BR or whatever #if you're not up for sweating a little bit then save yourself the trouble and pick another game that night #besides I thought people here were into that kind of thing #also what the hell is the difference between a play of the game replay and a last hit replay #there is no way that 'whatever the last thing that happened in a round was' is less prone to randomly showing off spaghetti plays #that whatever janky algorithm activision has been putting in their stuff lately

He and his team were going to make a move on them until the team’s commanding officer, Vernon, betrayed and ratted out the team. Simon and his team were tortured in brainwashing facilities for months. Vernon couldn’t break Simon and ended up ordered to die by Roba. Simon was buried alive with Vernon and broke out with Vernon’s jawbone due to Vernon’s rotting corpse. Simon ended up crossing the border to Texas and got healed from injuries but suffered from temper-management issues which didn’t allow him to return back to active duty. He later met up with two of his former teammates, Sparks and Washington but he found out that they were both broken and brainwashed by Roba. He ended up trying to kill Sparks but Washington interfered. He returned to his home to find his mother and his brother and his family all dead. He killed Sparks and Washington and then went on his journey to find and kill Roba. He worked solo and killed Roba and his men and ended up being recruited by General Shepard to join Task Force 141."
