The Diary of Penny Polendina
The other day I was inspired to try working on a different NeverFell Projects installment, one that would probably be a lot shorter and quicker to write, because it's not like I care that deeply about Penny, right??
Well, I was incredibly wrong. ^^; So wrong that I'm actually having trouble with this story now...essentially, Penny goes through a bit of a 'rebellious phase' (gross oversimplification, but that's all you get for now) and there are, surprisingly, a lot of aspects of that character arc that I want to explore. Plus, a pivotal connection with Pyrrha, the climax of which I haven't quite figured out yet...
God only knows if I'll be able to finish, or if I'll just write the first 2/3rds of the story and leave it at that. But I figured I might as well warm up by talking about the designs. ^^
Penny's new look is basically 'Disney's Pinocchio, color picked from Arthur Watts' character design'~
I didn't necessarily want her to look evil, just...bolder. Like she specifically picked 'daring' items that maybe her father or Ironwood's PR team would rather she didn't wear, at least not compared to the more innocent frilly pastels she had on before. Between the chest window, midriff, and short sleeves, she's actually showing a lot more skin than before, despite still being 90% covered up. ^^;
Those multicolored wrist accessories are prototype weapons invented by Dr. Watts, that mix and pressurize Dust from the cartridges to cast "artificial magic". This way I get to do a bit of the 'Winter Maiden Penny' stuff in this Vol. 3-locked AU~
Penny's magic usage is one of the things that stumped me when writing this story...In NeverFell, magic isn't just glowy rainbow lasers or weather powers-- it essentially allows the user access to any conceivable semblance at any time; its potential is limitless. Being a beginner, Penny would probably just come up with one signature 'spell' to use in tandem with her Floating Array...but I can't decide what I want her to do. ^^; I think I'd like for her to do something connected to dance, because I feel like that's something unique to her, the way she dances with her weapons before striking. Nobody ever points out how the "robot" in the cast is the one who chooses to spend energy on unnecessary movements that aren't even used to maneuver around an enemy; they're just cute and fun. ^^ I think that's a great encapsulation of who Penny is~
Redesigning Pyrrha is always super difficult, because her original design is so perfect. But I like this end result a LOT. ^^ I may need to adjust the pant legs a bit, but overall it feels like a very believable alt outfit that keeps the spirit of the character.
Pyrrha is another one of the stumbling blocks in this story, because I'm now forced to create at least one malleable personality trait for her-- i.e. one that isn't intrinsically tied to Jaune and/or the plot. Something that she could actually take into a meaningful relationship with a different character... I had the idea to expand her "I'm sorry!" gag into a real guilt complex, where she has trouble letting go of instances where she's made mistakes or hurt someone. In this case, dismembering Penny 1.0 and essentially ending her life. :T She seeks out 2.0 in a desperate effort to make things right, and ends up helping her with ...things, and growing as people or whatever, and all that other stuff I have yet to write. ^^;
I just realized that Pyrrha could use her polarity semblance to pull Penny towards her in a situation where they need to reach each other...that's so cute. ^^ I gotta remember that~

Since 2023, three articles have appeared in scientific journals, with 45 authors in all, arguing that the claims made on behalf of the wood-wide web have far outstripped the evidence. The objections are numerous. Many studies of inter-tree transfers have found only minuscule amounts of sugars shuttling between the trees – “statistically significant” but not necessarily “biologically significant”, one group of authors says – and most don’t rule out the possibility that the resources travelled through the air or soil rather than fungally. Despite Wohlleben’s insistence in Hidden Life that in a mycorrhizally conjoined forest “it is not possible for trees to grow too close to each other”, studies have not generally shown that seedlings ensconced in fungal networks do better when close to older trees (they often do worse). And although many trees are colonised by mycorrhizae, there is debate about whether those mycorrhizae actually form a durable network through which nutrients and signals could pass. Nature, the original venue for Simard’s research, recently ran an explosive news feature by Aisling Irwin on the “groundswell of unease” among ecologists with public discussions of mycorrhizal networks. Irwin reports on the scientists’ general scepticism and on a particular episode that has raised concerns. In her memoirs, Simard makes much of the idea that “mother trees” favour their kin. She describes in detail field research by her graduate student showing that seedlings placed in a fungal network “survived better and were noticeably bigger” if they were genetically related to nearby older trees. But that field study, the critics have noted, actually showed the opposite: the related seedlings were likelier to die, though the trend was not statistically significant. (Simard says that other studies by the student, from the laboratory, support her claims and she’d merely made a narrative choice to describe the results as emanating from the forest. “I do not, and would never, imply anything misleading when presenting research,” she told Irwin.) What makes the recent criticisms of Simard’s work so striking is that some come from her former colleagues and admirers. The first critical review of evidence was by three scientists – Justine Karst, Melanie Jones and Jason Hoeksema – who had all co-authored papers with Simard. The lead author, Karst, has discussed how she was inspired by Simard’s research to become a mycorrhizal ecologist. The second, Melanie Jones, appears in Simard’s memoirs as a hero who supported Simard when few others would. Jones co-authored the 1997 “wood-wide web” article, though she no longer stands fully by it. It was the cultural obsession with intelligent trees, from television shows to airport books, that impelled Karst, Jones and Hoeksema to reconsider their own earlier work. Simard, who is preparing detailed replies, regards these in-the-weeds debates as distracting from the urgent task of protecting forests. She has described the attention that Karst, Jones and Hoeksema’s criticisms have received as “an injustice to the whole world”. Perhaps, but it is exceedingly hard to read the recent reviews of evidence and retain faith in the wood-wide web as settled scientific fact. “Why do we so badly want this to be true?” Karst has asked. Maybe the unrelenting news of global warming and its attendant catastrophes – wildfires, hurricanes – has driven readers for respite toward calmer environmental stories. Or perhaps recent political cruelties have led us to seek reassurance that, in nature, beings are thoughtful and kind. The connective aspect seems important, too, as if trees’ fungal friendships could release us from our phone-checking isolation. Fairly or not, we’ve loaded our aspirations on to the forest: be the tree you want to see in the world.
[...]
A tree, Farmer writes, is “a radically nonhuman thing”, and a large, old tree is especially one. If trees have conceptual value, it is not because their similarity to us elicits our sympathy, but because their difference from us enlarges our horizons. They are the most visible markers on the evolutionary road not taken. Trees stand in for all the photosynthesising, carbon-dioxide breathing, fixed-in-place species that share our world yet have fundamentally different ways of living in it. Contemplating trees should be, above all, an exercise in humility. The mountains and woods, Santayana told his California audience, allow you to “take yourselves simply, humbly, for what you are, and to salute the wild, indifferent, non-censorious infinity of nature”. Perhaps the presence of beings older, larger and more numerous than we are – whether or not they resemble internet users or our mothers – can be a reminder that we are not everything, and that everything is not us. “Let us therefore be frankly human,” Santayana enjoined. And let the trees be trees.

Ok but I'm really curious I wanna hear your Wish rewrite ideas!!!!!!
What we were promised: "An origin story for the Wishing Star!" What we got: not an origin story, the Wishing Star just happens to be a character.
So, here's how I would rewrite it to honor the original premise and the finished film. (And no, there's no Starboy.)
Tumblr media
🌟 Asha and the Wishing Star 🌟
Asha tells the story of Rosas, of how Magnifico learned magic, married Amaya, and founded their kingdom, primarily as a prologue to the (movie) audience but also revealed as a story for the new visitors to Rosas, whom she still greets and leads on a tour like in "Welcome to Rosas". After the tour she visits her friends in Dahlia's bakery where the whole "King's apprentice" ambition is revealed, and Sakina and Sabino arrive - a bit early for the Wish-Granting Ceremony, but they also wanted to come and wish Asha well in the interview. Sabino is still turning 100 that day, and has been waiting for his wish to be granted for 84 years (if my math is right.)
Queen Amaya still comes to retrieve Asha for the interview. Of course, Asha continues to hold the true values of Rosas at heart, just as in the finished movie, and Amaya sees this in her. In the king's study, Asha is very interested in all of the alchemy equipment, etc. but instead of approaching the dark magic book, she is repelled by it, staying away and then immediately being drawn towards the glowing wishes even though they are hidden from her at first. This is what gets King Magnifico's attention swiftly, rather than Asha touching the evil book's glass. Both of them hold wishes in very high regard and know them to be incredibly precious and needing protection ("At All Costs") - for very different reasons, of course, but that's not obvious yet. Asha still hopes for her grandfather's wish to be granted, but Magnifico refuses, still saying that Sabino's wish - to create something that inspires people - is too dangerous and vague, and that Sabino is better off not even remembering his wish. At the Wish-Granting Ceremony, King Magnifico still makes a show of refusing Asha's wish and dismissing her as a possible apprentice.
Later that evening, after the disagreement with Sabino who doesn't want to remember a wish he'll never see granted, Asha makes "This Wish," and of course, Star answers. He's a little hurtling ball of boundless energy which leaves Asha so confused at first, but then when she understands he came here because of her, she tells him about the wishes trapped by Magnifico, and they're resolved to find Sabino's wish and free it. Asha, however, already questions her own abilities compared to Star, which leads to the song "I'm a Star," about how every living thing has stardust in them - but Asha herself has always been able to perceive wishes in a way that few humans are truly able to. However, no star is able to use the full extent of their magical power without a wish being made to them, and once that wish is granted, a star must return to the sky to watch over all the world.
King Magnifico is alarmed by the light that shone when Star first arrived, and like the movie, has to be persuaded by Queen Amaya not to turn to the book. Instead, he gathers the people to claim Asha to be a traitor and ask them all about the light; Dahlia and the rest of Asha's friends cover for her with endless questions as Asha and Star get into the tower to get Sabino's wish, and Star is curious about the dark magic book, only for Asha to pull him away, saying she doesn't know how, but she's certain that it's incredibly dangerous. They retrieve Sabino's wish and escape - but not before witnessing Magnifico's spite towards the kingdom for questioning him and his turn to use the dark magic book ("This is the Thanks I Get?!")
Asha returns Sabino's wish to him, and asks Sabino what wonderful music he'll create first, only for Magnifico to arrive and confront them, crushing Sakina's wish as he does in the movie and Asha pulling down a bookcase on him for her and her family to escape. Asha sends Sakina and Sabino to a nearby island as she knows that Magnifico is a danger to all the kingdom, and that she must free all the wishes so that people are able to leave. She enlists her friends' help.
Queen Amaya witnesses King Magnifico with the dark magic book and staff and understands swiftly that a line has been crossed there's no coming back from. Worried but initially uncertain, it's not until the gathering in which Simon's wish is "granted" and he names his other friends as traitors helping Asha, when Star is able to get a message to Queen Amaya.
Asha and her remaining friends regroup, alongside Star and Valentino, and resolve to defeat Magnifico, joined soon by Queen Amaya ("Knowing What I Know Now"). At nightfall they enact their plan, with Asha once again acting as bait in the forest and aided by a magic wand while Dahlia and the others getting into the tower with Star and Amaya's help while Magnifico is seemingly distracted. But the trick is revealed as Magnifico sent Simon to pursue Asha and the real king has been waiting in his tower to catch them all in their treachery, trapping all the wishes and blocking out the sky. Asha's friends alone manage to escape him.
Star initially fights Magnifico and actually does fairly well for a few minutes, being more zippy and annoying than actually a threat, before Asha makes it back to the kingdom and is dragged to the top of the King's tower so he can make an example of her. Star attempts to interfere as Magnifico attacks Asha with magic, but Star is thrown aside as Magnifico derides him, saying "how could [Magnifico] have ever thought [Star] was a threat? He's nothing to be worried about at all, how can he grant even the measliest wish?"
Asha attempts to defend Star, challenging Magnifico, only for him to carelessly throw her from the tower - seemingly to her death. Star dives after her, too late to rescue her before he finds her motionless on a roof below, surrounded by Dahlia, Hal, Safi, Bazeema, Gabo, Dario, and even Simon who had been freed from Magnifico's control and come to find his friends. As it seems all is lost, Star mourns with Asha's friends and tries to comfort them all with gentle nose-boops, before he lays himself against Asha's heart, and begins to glow, brighter and brighter until both of them are blinding golden - then the glow fades, revealing only Asha remaining. She stirs and wakes, bewildered at first before her friends tell her what Star did. When Asha sees her heart glow the way that only Star had made it possible, realizes that not only has he had given himself to restore her, but he had also bestowed her with his magic, that he trusts her deeply to be able to defeat Magnifico. Wiping away her tears, Asha vows that she won't let Star down, and looks up to the tower under the darkened sky. She says she needs her friends, and that since Star touched them with his magic as well, she knows they cannot fail.
Having disregarded Asha and Star the moment they were out of sight, Magnifico descends to the stage where he always has them gathered and taunts the kingdom, snaring them all in his dark magic, saying there will be no more wishing on stars and none of them will ever escape - before Asha appears. She attempts to fight Magnifico, but he overpowers her again and throws her to the stage floor, and as Asha looks out at the trapped kingdom, she remembers that stars can only use their full powers to grant a wish, and she entreats the people of Rosas to make a wish ("This Wish (Reprise)"). As the people make a wish, Asha shines brilliantly and transforms into a radiant form (I particularly imagine this redesign by by @princess-ibri but you all are of course free to imagine her design however you want but it's definitely more than just sparkles!) and is able to rival King Magnifico's powers for the first time, disarming him and causing him to actually fear her. He attempts to flee from her, disappearing into the palace and charging up the tower. Asha does not pursue him, but as she commands, starlight breaks through Magnifico's dark clouds, causing them to begin to thunder and lightning.
Magnifico flees up the tower and finds all possible escape routes blocked by Asha's friend armed with magical weapons that were taken from his own chamber, determined not to let him get away. Upon reaching the top of the tower once more, he attempts to threaten the kingdom, trying to restore the darkness over the sky. However, the wishes of Rosas as granted by Asha's power are too much for him, and as he backs away from the seven friends, raising the staff, a lightning bolt of sinister green dark magic strikes the staff, causing a reaction that causes Magnifico to fall from the tower as the staff breaks into pieces. He is trapped in the mirror-like jewel, unforgiven by Amaya, and will be locked away behind the protected glass that once housed the dark magic book.
With Magnifico defeated, however, the wish that Asha made and Star answered is fulfilled, and now Asha must ascend to the stars in Star's place to continue watching over the world. She breaks the orbs containing all the wishes, allowing them to be returned to all of Rosas, and begins to bid good-bye to her friends, who will all miss her. Most of all, Asha says, she is sad that she will never be there in person to hear all the wonderful music that Sabino will write to inspire the world.
Sabino tearfully embraces her, and says she will know of it, he will make sure.
After seeing that the kingdom is in good hands under Amaya's care - that the queen still holds all the values of Rosas at heart - Asha rises into the air, transforming into a beacon of light that soars away through the stars. The star she becomes glows brighter than the rest in the sky, so the people of Roses will always know her.
For the ending scene, Sabino and Sakina sit outside their home, looking up at Asha's star self in the sky, as Sakina says "Asha will be happy. Her greatest wish was always to help people. So long as people wish, she will be there." "Yes, she will be," says Sabino, and he picks up his lute, picks a few notes, and then begins to compose the first lines of 'When You Wish Upon a Star'. "And she will be there to grant wishes wherever they come from."
The end credits shows Asha's star overlooking moments from all the original Disney animated films throughout history. Maybe she didn't actively participate... but she was there, watching over them all.
~~~
🌟 This was lots of rambling and no it was not proofread lol. Anyways I just think that Wish missed a lot of potential and this at least is my perfect rewrite. 🌟
Hope you don't mind me referencing your redesign @princess-ibri! It's just my perfect idea of Asha getting the incredible transformation she deserved.
Weirdly enough, I’m with Twilight on this, not necessarily on the setup possibility, but on the idea that Melinda’s fishy and that, maybe, she figured out who Yor was (Anya’s mom/Loid’s wife) as she initially invited her to come along.
After all, the main theme of this story is about fake identities, lies and deceiving others. Since the Desmonds and the Forgers are clearly mirroring each other narratively speaking, as the antagonists vs main characters, it just wouldn’t surprise me if Donovan and Melinda were as untraditional, as a married couple, as Loid and Yor are.
Let me explain: until two weeks ago, almost no reader really thought Melinda would appear any time soon nor that she would be as relevant as she’s turning out to be. Why is that? Because Sensei had a lot of fun so far writing a story in which Berlint’s high society is depicted as very traditional (with the men having the important jobs while women... idk, take care of the house or go shopping?).
Of course, that’s something the made-up family of Loid, Yor and Anya only pretends to live up to, as they subvert all these tropes with pride. For example, Loid is the one who cooks and sews, Yor is the strongest character in the whole series and Anya’s on a whole other level of "gifted”.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
That’s why I just wouldn’t be surprised if the Desmond family only pretended to be on the same level of “traditional” that the rest of their peers expect them to be, only for Melinda to weigh as heavily in the plot as her husband (if not more!).
In other words, sure, Donovan Desmond is the head of an ultra nationalist conservative party, but does this mean Melinda was just introduced to play the dutiful wife act?
maybe (after all, WISE has nothing on her and she does sound lonely, with most of her friends being from before she was First Lady)
but maybe not because that’s only a cover that she deceives others with, as she plays a big part in her husband’s war plans or in an entirely different business
TL;DR
Tumblr media
If the ladies are actually stronger and scarier than their husband in this series, then Melinda is a real foe we’ll have to watch out for, as a good match up for Yor.
Stay tuned, this chapter was insane lmao.
random firewatch au detail that has basically no impact on the story unless you want to psychoanalyze fw!grian even further than i did as the author, but it's very intentional that i always refer to both of mumbo's parents but only grian's mom. did i give him daddy issues? i guess so, but not in a way where i really deeply examined the implications as meaningful to the story. it was just a detail i stuck with from the beginning as a way to keep fleshing out the story's background subtly. the idea behind grian's dual citizenship was always that he was born in america to an american dad and british mom, and that his mom moved back to the UK when he was very young since she wanted to be closer to her family. perhaps his dad didn't go with them? or perhaps his dad did, and then later they split and he went back to america? whatever the cause, grian never even mentions his dad in the story, and it wasn't because i intended him to be dead (because that would have come up in a story about grief) if you get me
#i have no idea why but i normally HATE thinking about cubitos' parents in like. normal mcyt settings sjlfjslkfjs#if i'm writing a hermitcraft-setting fic i'd rather have them all just spawn into the world fully formed than dealing with their parents LO#but in a real-world au it made more sense for the characters to mention their parents occasionally#i just similarly didn't spend TOO much time worrying about it because it was not really the focus#everybody's relationships with their family is a bit less important here than their relationships with their Friends here you know?#i also think that ivi inspired this a little because somewhere early in the fic she was like hey what Made grian react to things like this?#like what experiences in his life primed him to react like This to the story events?#i was like. oh yeah.#cause i normally approach writing grian from the perspective of watcher!grian#but normally him on hermitcraft or life series AFTER he escaped them and it's more of an old trauma that informs his present actions#with firewatch au there is like....none of that pretext. there's no context that he might have had other trauma in life?#but i WAS writing him like that. out of habit. and i'm not saying he DID have prexisting trauma in firewatch au#that's very much something i haven't bothered to flesh out because it's in the zone of things where my time was better spent elsewhere#but i will say i think i only starting doing the one parent detail AFTER ivi mentioned this lmao#i mean. if the guy's got abandonment issues it probably explains a lotttt of his fear of giving up on Mumbo. just sayin'#hc_firewatch_au
So I just finished watching the 2022 adaptation of Persuasion and like
It's a good film. It was fun and enjoyable.
It was also a TERRIBLE adaptation.
It would have worked so much better if they'd just used original characters. 'Inspired by Jane Austen' stories exist in the hundreds if not thousands. It wouldn't have been a reach to say "oh hey we took inspo from Persuasion for this new thing" and no one would have batted an eyelash and the film probably would have done better. Because it feels like an original story. It has the bare bones of Persuasion, yes. Also the character names. But so many of the characters feel so divorced from their novel counterparts that I kept forgetting that this was supposed to be Persuasion until someone got addressed by name again. Half of the motivations feel different, some of the changes to the storyline are baffling if you're making it an adaptation rather than just loosely inspiring it and the kitschy "talking to the camera thing" would have worked so much better if it had been literally any character other than Anne, like, say an original character. Also, the anachronisms would have been much more accepted in any film that was not an attempt at a Jane Austen Adaptation (see: the Bridgerton series as just one example)
If this film had been an original film that was only inspired by the plot of Persuasion it would have been well-loved. As an adaptation, I was cringing in minutes.
@yuelun // you have nobody but yourself to blame for this actually. the rite of parting. final goodbyes, letting go & forgiveness. inspired by : this version of lovers oath.
Tumblr media
𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐄𝐍𝐃 𝐎𝐅 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐑𝐈𝐓𝐄 𝐎𝐅 𝐏𝐀𝐑𝐓𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐇𝐀𝐃 𝐂𝐎𝐌𝐄; while many in Liyue were saying goodbye to their Archon and wondering what the future would hold for them without Rex Lapis. Zhongli was saying goodbye to his past. While sad for many of the residents, perhaps some were even a little fearful. For him, it was bittersweet. A chapter in his story finally coming to a close. Perhaps it had been long overdue, for how long had he held on to his past, clutched tightly within the palms of his hand. So tightly, he barely lived in the present. The people had long since proven to him that they were fine on their own; they no longer needed him to hold their hand or guide them. But what of him? Holding on the way he had done; living within a memory -- he missed so many things in the here and now. It was time to truly let go. While the thought had his heart ache in ways he could not even begin to put into words, it felt right. As though now was the time he'd been waiting for all those thousands of years.
Perhaps this was where it was all supposed to end. There was a smile upon his face, Goodbyes are never truly forever, after all. It simply marks the end of one journey; making way for the beginning of another. Had she not once said that to him? Many years ago? Her voice still as fresh in his memory now, as it was back then. Her laughter echoing in his ears as he allowed himself to recall memories he usually pushed further back in his mind. Remembering a time he knew little of mortal emotions; a laugh escaped him. Causing one of the residents of Liyue to glance to him almost scornfully. "Apologies." Eyes drawn to the glaze lilies, amazed they lingered; though now scattered across the land and far more sparse than they had been.
Memories of banquets held, laughter shared; debates had. A time where things had been both much simpler, and yet entirely more complicated. Morax had to learn to navigate the ways of the mortals to truly understand them, to become the Archon they needed and the one they deserved. With her help and guidance, he had done just that. Leading their people into a prosperous future, never once forgetting any of the things that she had taught him. And neither will they. Though our names may fade from their memories in the future; this land has become what it is, in part; thanks to you, Guizhong. I hope that you would be happy with all they have achieved.
A final look to where the lilies lay, the smell of the incense in the air; not known to many, but so hauntingly familiar to him. He was at peace with his decision, more than. Zhongli had no regrets in laying his past to rest, no regrets on finally ending the chapter that had prevailed for much too long. She could rest now, as could he.
Movement caught his eye from atop a cliff; her figure there, looking down over Liyue, over them, over him. Another smile would tug at his lips, how perfectly I recall you, even now. He thought, simply a memory; one he'd had many times over the years. How befitting that she should appear to him like that on this day of all days. Thank you, Guizhong. He would remain looking at that cliff edge for a while, not daring to look away in case she would disappear. But in the goodbye, in forgiving himself, he knew he had to.
One day our paths will cross once more... until then...
And he turned away, walking slowly through the crowd and making his way out of the harbour. He would not look back, after all; that was not the point of a goodbye. No, instead; he would simply look ahead. For he had all the time in the world now to see new things, new places; experience things he had yet to experience.
And when that time came that they would be reunited; oh, how many new stories would he have to share?
I will live this life for us both.
Wilbur really likes Tommy as a baby. He wonders if he'll like him when he gets bigger.
That's silly. Of course I'll like him when he's bigger; I'll like him for always, no matter what, even if he gets really tall and stops liking dandelions.
I think he'll always like dandelions, though.
Wilbur takes a peek around the side of the stroller, looking for mum. She's walking down the sidewalk, and she still has a cigarette in her mouth. She removes it to blow out smoke. Wilbur looks back at Tommy.
"Hey."
Tommy makes a thoughtful noise, though that probably has more to do with him shoving his empty hand into his mouth.
Wilbur watches him evenly. "I just want you to know that I'll like you forever. Even when you stop being a baby and everything. Even when you get big. I'll always be bigger than you, so that means... that means my love will get bigger, too!"
Wilbur brightens, eyes widening. "Yeah! Every time I get bigger, my heart will get bigger, which means that I can fit more love inside it! That means that the bigger I get, and the bigger you get, the more I'll love you!"
Tommy pauses trying to gnaw on his hand to gaze up at his brother, eyes brilliant and blue. A lot of spit dribbles down his chin, but Wilbur's going to wait a bit before he wipes it away.
"Tommy, will your love get bigger too? I hope it does. I hope both of our loves get so big that we don't know what to do with ourselves, and all that we can do is hug each other and say, 'I love you soooo much'!" Wilbur smiles, and a breeze strokes his face. The sky is light purple now, and most of the sunlight is fading away. It's getting cooler.
Wilbur leans forward and kisses Tommy on the forehead. "I love you so much, Tommy. I love you now and I'll love you when you're big. And even though you can't talk yet, I'm pretty sure you love me, too. Right?"
Tommy pulls his hand out of his mouth, slick and shiny with saliva. Wilbur laughs.
Then Tommy spreads his mouth into a wide smile, letting out a happy squeal.
"That's cool, that's cool. I'm like that, sometimes." Tubbo takes a deep breath and lets it out, sagging lower into the bench. "Serious conversations can be weird."
"Very," Ranboo adds, chuckling breathlessly. "Very, very weird."
Tubbo smiles. "So... maybe we don't talk serious this evening, then? Talk about something else?"
"Yeah! I mean, um, yeah. Th-that is, if you want."
"Hey, I'm fine with whatever, big man. Whatever floats your boat."
"Whatever floats my... what?"
Tubbo turns to him, and Ranboo quickly averts his eyes. "Oh, that's an expression. It basically means, 'do whatever you want' or 'do whatever feels best for you'."
"Then... why don't you just say that?"
"Say what?"
"What you just said. Do whatever you want, instead of the boat thing."
Tubbo purses his lips. "Because the boat thing is more fun. Gives it flavor, y'know?"
Ranboo doesn't know.
"Oh yeah, sure. Obviously."
Tubbo nods, turning back to watch the sunset.
A minute or so passes, and Ranboo briefly closes his eyes, letting the gentle breeze blow back his hair. It feels really nice right now; not cold, but not hot either. A wonderful in-between.
"My house. You're in my house, Ranboo." Tommy takes a step forward, and Ranboo quickly rises to his feet. The flower tumbles off his legs, landing in a crumpled heap on the ground. "Why are you in my house? Who did- who let you in here?"
"I-I think, um, Tubbo," Ranboo replies, voice quivering.
Tommy stares at him. "I think you're lying."
"N-no!" Ranboo draws his hand towards his chest. "I'm not- I'm not lying, Tommy! Why would I lie?"
"That's what I want to figure out."
Ranboo's brow furrows, and his chest fills with warmth again—a very different kind of warmth. Not like sunshine, but like fire. "I'm not lying, Tommy. I wouldn't- I don't lie. I don't do that."
Tommy stares at him, nostrils flaring. Ranboo flicks his eyes away.
And then:
"Were you hanging out with Tubbo?"
Tommy doesn't sound loud and angry anymore. Instead, he just sounds quiet.
Ranboo nods minutely. "Yes. Well- well I was, earlier. He's not here now."
Tommy doesn't say anything.
Ranboo swallows. "Do you need, um, need him for something? Because I can send him a message if you want."
Ranboo immediately knows that he said the wrong thing. Tommy's eyes turn fiery, and his jaw tightens.
Ranboo doesn't know what he did wrong.
Post the fic summary for a fic you haven't written/published yet. It can be hypothetical or something you really plan on releasing...
OOOOOH okay, hmm…
AU. Alright? AU in which Ghostbur and Tommy go to the prison to kill Dream, but instead of Ghostbur dying, Tommy’s invisibility potion wears off a little too fast, and Sam panics and locks Ghostbur and Tommy into Dream’s cell!! So now Ghostbur, Tommy, and Dream are stuck together!! Wow!! Totally nothing bad is going to happen and no one will get hurt and no one will experience PTSD/traumatic memories!! Totally!!
I’ve gotten really excited about this AU lol. It’s the one I wrote 1,500 words for last night :0
The Atlas Paradox is boring and I don't like Olivie Blake's writing style
things that are fascinating to me right now: a character looking at the situation they're in, realizing they've gotten in over their head, and then picking up a shovel and starting to dig
Every now and then I regret not being more out there because I love the idea of being someone’s muse… and then I think about it, and I realize I’d probably come to hate that
