So! Rant!
I've loved RWBY since I started watching during the volume 6 to volume 7 hiatus. Volume 7 was the first I watched live.
I'm still watching it on Crunchyroll. That's not stopping anytime soon. No, I don't support Rooster Teeth any more than I support Disney for having The Owl House, Amphibia, or Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur under their banner.
I stopped buying Ubisoft games after the sex assault scandals at the top came out. I never played League of Legends, and love Arcane as much as the next guy, but am not supporting Riot Games. I may have bought The Witcher 3: GOTY edition at one point, and had Cyberpunk 2077 brought for me as I gift but I haven't played Cyberpunk nor the Witcher 3 at any point recently and don't support CDPR.
I may have been a Harry Potter fan since I was a kid, but JKR's whole descent into bigotry of all flavors turned me off anything past book 7 where HP officially ended. I may have liked Ender's Game, but Orson Scott Card is blacklisted for me when I found out about his rampant homophobia.
As far as other things go, the only problematic thing(s) I have are a Spotify Premium subscription for my phone's music and a Crunchyroll subscription for anime since I have multiple devices I like to watch anime on and piracy wasn't working for me.
Assuming that everyone who may otherwise enjoy things like...I dunno, Assassin's Creed or Watch Dogs or The Owl House or RWBY or something else like that automatically supports the horrendous practices of the corporation that owns in it is not welcome here. Especially if you're like me and you either A) Pirate the thing, or B) Avoid it altogether.
Point being, I believe in Don't Like;Don't Watch. I believe in leaving people in peace to enjoy whatever they may, provided whatever it is doesn't cause real harm or contributes to harm. If you wanna pirate, go right ahead. If you wanna avoid things altogether, please feel free.
I will not judge you either way, as I've done both in the past and continue to do so with certain things. Harry Potter related stuff is on a blacklist, for instance, due to JKR's rampant bigotry and real world harm even if I still kept my books and movies. I can't watch Dave Chappelle's newer stuff either, for another example.
I can always get whatever I need of Watch Dogs or Assassin's Creed by watching a twitch stream or reading the wikis, or the cutscenes on youtube.
Anyhow: TLDR - Don't Like it? Don't engage with it. Pirate if you must, avoid if you must. Pick your battles wisely, as some folk don't respond well to being yelled at.
I'm gonna go read my Legend of Korra comics in peace. Thank you for attending this rant. Have a happy Pinkie Pie for your day.

I hope one day the general view on feet in art changes online, both because they're just a normal part of our body, but also because you can create such beautiful symbolism around them in narratives.
They're our connection to the earth and everything that is our reality (and the reality of generations to come). The state of one's shoes (how worn they are) could speak for not only the character's wealth, but also how in touch/detached they are with/from the world around them. In that same vein how often a character is seen walking around barefoot could also say a lot about how free they are compared to characters who cringe at the thought of touching grass without anything on. And then that also gets me thinking about the state of a character's feet themselves. How worn are they? Are they well taken care of?
I'm thinking about this, because I've noticed older stories aren't afraid to mention feet at all. And by mentioning a character has sore feet or blisters, they become more like real people to me as a reader/watcher, too... Instead of being these invincible fictional creations you know will win at the end of a story no matter what.
We used to laugh about how people used to freak out about seeing an ankle, but sometimes the reaction to feet in non-sexual art feels the exact same. I wish it weren't so!

I’d like to take a moment to appreciate the score behind the scene where Mat summons the Heroes of the Horn, because after rewatching it literally four times I finally realized why it hit me so hard – it’s scored like a modern movie or show of the genre usually would be.
This is the part where I admit that it took me most of the first season to warm up to Lorne Balfe’s compositions for Wheel of Time; I am an ardent enjoyer of the more classical, leitmotif-laden scores for things like Lord of the Rings and Star Wars, and for a while I felt a twinge of disappointment that WoT wouldn’t be getting the same treatment. But! I eventually came to my senses and realized that Balfe’s compositions perfectly suit Wheel of Time’s setting. WoT’s world is post-apocalyptic, risen from the ashes of an unimaginably technologically advanced society to form its own unique landscape – that’s wild!! It’s different!! And Lorne Balfe recognized that it warranted a different musical style to match. He relies on compositions that lean into synthesized, eerie reverbs, and substitutes the classic leitmotifs seen elsewhere for rhythmic choral chanting in the Old Tongue to explain characters and their motivations – if you have the ear to understand it, of course. ;)
This brings me back around to our good friend Matrim. As he summons the Heroes, something happens to the score. The choral element is still present, but the slow music beneath it is… a regular orchestra. Slow, soaring strings, the kind of sound western audiences typically associate with decades of moments of glory and victory on screen – the music we typically hear for our heroes. As Mat calls these warriors from past Ages, and as he says “I… I remember”, the music steps back with him, connecting Mat to them all. This is a moment that straight up would not have worked if Wheel of Time was scored like the Lord of the Ringses or Game of Throneses it’s so often compared to – there wouldn’t have been any contrast between this section of the score and all the others. But because the score is usually on a completely different plane, doing weird, unique, “out-of-genre” stuff, it clicks PERFECTLY. Even if you don’t consciously register it, the music has momentarily stepped into a style that’s completely different – but completely familiar.

Cardassian conlang (part 1?)
Finally started making my Cardassian conlang and I'm having so much fun already. Get this:
There's a distinction between alienable and inalienable possession, something that occurs in many natural languages. An example is, like, "my nose" vs "my hat". My nose is inalienable because it will always be mine, while my hat is alienable because it can stop being mine. So in languages with this distinction, you'd use different words for "my" in those two situations.
In my Cardassian language, possession is indicated with suffixes attached to nouns and people's names. People are "possessed" in the sense that, y'know, they're your mom or your friend or your orthodontist or whatever. Generally, you'd use the alienable form for people. Your orthodontist might not always be your orthodontist, your friend might not always be your friend. The exception is that you always use the inalienable form(s) for family. Your mom will always be your mom.
So, to use the inalienable possessive for a friend would be to say that they are as close to you as family, that you trust that they will always be your friend. This is often, like, a milestone in dating. To start saying "my girlfriend (inalienable)" marks that your relationship is serious. (Traditionalists will say that you shouldn't use the inalienable form until you're properly betrothed, but kids these days have their own ideas.) In this way, it becomes a pretty straightforward term of endearment (or, rather, grammatical particle of endearment).
Since there's no equivalent in Federation Standard, the translator often renders it as "my dear."
Here's a table of the 10 different words for "my"
Tumblr media
So, presuming that the speaker is a man, and the person they're referring to is also a man who they don't have to use the honorific form with...
/alʊk/ - "friend"
/alʊkɬei/ - "my friend"
/alʊkxa/ - "my dear friend"
/ilɨm̥xa/ - "my dear Elim"

Would you ever make a non-graphic comic on Donnie laying the eggs?
I mean, I'm not opposed to exploring such concepts, generally speaking, (as I've repeatedly showcased lol), I just don't really know what a comic like that would really entail. I don't have a good story in my mind atm about this, so I don't have any plans r/n. 🤷🏻‍♂️ If y'all have specific questions about his experience and such, then maybe I'd get an idea for something, but right now I have no plans for it.

It’s pretty much cannon that different gangs in Lowtown are associated with different colors right?
Does anyone remember seeing orange mentioned before? Or is it free for grabs?

being a somewhat strange person, your friends and family get used to hearing strange things about you rather quickly, until you say something that would knock an unsuspecting classmate or coworker flat but your well-acclimated closer companion simply nods and says "stands to reason," so there's a certain joy in occasionally saying something so unusual that your own mother of twenty-one years puckers her lips in shock and says "marina... that's not normal..."

I finally found the source for the interview between Satomi Tadashi and Kazuma Kaneko (main writer and artist) where they literally call Tatsuya and Jun gay - (”homo” - english loan word). It’s from the Innocent Sin World artbook (pub. in 2000). Here is the translation, and here is a link to the artbook. It’s on page 32. It’s not like this is anything new, but I feel like it’s important to have the original text onhand when sharing stuff like this! Translation under the cut for ease of access/archival purposes:
— What do you think Jun thinks of Lisa and Tatsuya’s relationship? SATOMI: I think he wants Lisa to be a bit more gentle with Tatsuya. KANEKO: She’s really got a jealous nature, doesn’t she? “Shaddup, woman.” Didn’t everyone expect Jun to say that? And then he’d say “Tatsuya, hold my hand a little bit tighter please.” SATOMI: Well, everyone is free to think what they like about that. *laugh* Personally, I don’t think he’s necessarily gay. KANEKO: Jun isn’t gay…but he likes Tatsuya, right? SATOMI: He likes him. If Tatsuya asked, “Do you like me?” Jun would say, “I like you!” KANEKO: Tatsuya would ask “Do you like me”? SATOMI: I think he’d ask like that. KANEKO: I think he’d say something like “What do you think of me?” And then Jun would say, “I like you!” SATOMI: If Jun said something like that, he would turn his back and seem happy. KANEKO: Who would? SATOMI: Tatsuya would. KANEKO: Tatsuya would turn his back and say, “You do?” happily? Well then, he’s gay, isn’t he! SATOMI: *laugh* …that’s why I said that everyone can think as they like about that issue. KANEKO: Well, I don’t know much about that field, anyway. I’ll have to do a little more homework. Hey, does Jun have thick hair? SATOMI: It’s not thick. KANEKO: And Tatsuya’s hair isn’t thick either? SATOMI: Right. So even if it gets tangled together, they’ll be okay. (NOTE: This refers to old, old literary references in which two people slept together in the same bed, so close together that their hair got tangled together.) KANEKO: What, so they really are gay. I see, so they’re gay, huh…Well, then Jun’s probably thought of assassinating Lisa? By setting some sort of trap for her…

Where comes the idea that Kirby "needs adult guidance?" When has Kirby been shown to ever need guidance by anybody outside of the extraordinary circumstances of Rainbow Curse and Mass Attack?
Kirby is always the one doing the guiding. He's at the head of the party. He also isn't native to Dream Land and we're left to assume he cared for himself perfectly fine before arriving there in DL1.
(Let's not be so quick to remove "traveling" from "traveling youth." Remember that the travels Kirby have been on are inter-planetary ones. This isn't the anime where he was a sleeping infant. The series tells us he's been on galactic adventures before arriving on Popstar.)
Kirby IS a childish character, of that there is no doubt. They are quite likely to be a childish child! But Kirby is no one's dependant.
Kirby is perfectly capable of surviving alone, on their own, in situations that have toppled kingdoms. He can also logic out what is going around him with only loose context. In fact, he picks up on complex situations like Susie's and Taranzas really fast.
Kirby can be young. How young is up to each individual person. If it's your HC or you want to write familial relationships with him and the cast, by all means, write him as whatever is cutest/most fulfilling!
But for the series in a general sense? The evidence of Kirby needing other's supervision, protection, and guidance isn't there.

The “badboyhalo is dappers egg” jokes rub me the wrong way. It does two things, devalue the amount of work qbbh puts in to being a good caretaker and specifically dad for pomme and dapper while also forcing dapper in to the role of an adult. Dapper (and pomme) were forced to grow up really quickly being the last two eggs with two lives. People will ask dapper for things and favors all the time to the point where the poor egg felt stretched thin. I feel like people neglect to realize dapper is still just a baby because he doesn’t show his childish mannerisms in public as much as he does with the late night crew but he still is very much so a kid. I know it’s not that deep but the other day with bagi and tina made me see how new islanders didn’t see the same struggles old islanders did and so they were finding some truth in the joke that isn’t really there imo. Bagi hitting him with the frying pan saying who is he to talk when she takes care of two kids or Tina about her concerns with bad right in front of his son as if he was not there. It felt like dapper wasn’t seen as a son in those moments.

A little unpopular opinion on something I've seen happen more commonly throughout November/December and wanted to address quickly for my own blog: Please never hesitate to reblog anything from me. You see me reblogging a sentence starter list that you like? Go for it and reblog it from me directly without any pressure on you whatsoever to send anything into me before doing so. You like a GIF-set or musing that I reblogged? Nab it from me, it'll brighten my day to see that we share an interest in something. I like to see interaction between me and anyone who follows me. I like to see that little activity notification light up.
Honestly, it simply reminds me that we're all part of a community, and more specifically, a fandom that consists of characters and nations that we all came to love and then share that amongst ourselves. And honestly, seeing a reblog happen shortly after me but it's from the source, creates (in my opinion) an odd sense of chosen disconnect between people that can feel awkward, it's as if we're walking on eggshells as to not rub each other the wrong way. But what's wrong about going 'Hey, I see what you reblogged, I like it too!', it even gives you potential common ground to start a conversation. We're a community, and I don't know about you, but I like seeing people interact with each other beyond merely threads and notes. It's the little things that matter, after all.
#[ psa. ] seeing isn't always believing. and if you can't trust your eyes; you certainly can't trust rumors.#[ i feel like this whole 'reblog karma' rule has scared people so much into stopping with behavior that... ]#[ i think was healthy. interaction; no matter how small; makes it so much easier and comfortable for people to... ]#[ interact because you almost become 'familiar faces' through these tiny little asks. ]#[ the amount of times i've entered dms kindly/respectfully after someone's reblogged something from me-- ]#[ and the person and i proceeded to just gush about the reblogged fanart in question. or something similar. ]#[ which then makes any further ooc interaction so much easier and nicer-- the initial anxiety people may face is lessened. ]#[ because you've already found common ground. ]#[ like i don't mean to force anyone to reblog from me-- but it's like it's so obvious so often when people... ]#[ see something from you but then reblog it from the source. i dunno if it's just me but it feels odd. ]#[ it feels as if someone thinks reblogging from me would step on my toes or rub me the wrong way and i don't see?? ]#[ why that's a thing? it's so silly. reblog from me; feel welcome to do so. we all love this fandom. we all love our characters. ]#[ and each others' characters. it's why we interact; right? ]#[ any way. hi-- yes. i just mean never feel odd to reblog from me. if anything i encourage it. ]#[ i'll smile and nod at you in my activity; and you'll also pique my interest to be like 'hey! good taste 💙 ]#[ any way; i hope people are having a good weekend! ]
