fon's 2023 in fic

so in order to distract myself from yet another fic flopping miserably i'm gonna do the compilation of all the flops from the entire year! :'D

a big big thank you to those of you who said nice words about my stuff, who left comments on the fics, and who helped me finish surprisingly many works this year. i am truly grateful for every single lovely comment i got! 💖 that is what kept me going, what made things feel worthwhile, and what helped me through many a dark moment.

i do still have works in progress but at the same time this sort of feels like a goodbye. idk. we'll see. but I can't keep pouring from an empty chalice and the fandom clearly does not want to help me fill it so we're at an impasse :'D it feels increasingly much that exiting stage left is the right move, as much as i don't want to and as much as it hurts to let go. but I digress.

on a more positive note, I can, hand to heart, say that I am extremely pleased with pretty much everything i wrote this year :D it's got to count for something, right!

It's bad enough that Krauser is back, but watching him torture Piers to get back at Leon might just be the worst thing Leon has ever been through in his life.

Supernatural is depressing as a rewatch. It has its fun moments, but that show hurts. It wasn’t depressing when I first watched it, but over time…. The rewatches are especially depressing. You just know they aren’t going to get their happy ever after since the life of a hunter is absolute hell. Well, I guess no happy ever after in their actual life, they do get to enjoy heaven together. So yeah, I get you there. What shows do you usually rewatch instead? Have you seen Parks & Recs? It seems like you would like it! Such a comfort show.

Yeah, the Supernatural rewatch can be hard. I have to say though, I’ve rewatched the show more since it ended, because I liked the end and knowing the show ended in a way that made me happy (well, it was obviously a fucking tragedy, but like, narratively speaking, it was a good ending because this entire show is a horror/tragedy), it made it way easier to enjoy the rewatches. The knowledge that in the end, they get an ending that honors the life they led and that they got a period of happiness on earth without apocalyptic disasters and then happiness in heaven. Occasionally, like every few years, I get the bug and start a rewatch from the start, and then at some point, which can vary, I start skipping eps 😅 Mostly though I have a few… thematic rewatches I do.

I either do a Fun Episode rewatch, including eps like Hell House, Monster Movie, Bad Day at Black Rock, The French Mistake (controversial, I know, I know), Mint Condition etc. Then there’s the Extreme Brothering rewatch, which is Sam and Dean being codependent little soulmates and just brothering all over the place, like Scarecrow, The Usual Suspects, Red Meat, Safe House, etc. Sometimes I also rewatch early season Winchesters vs Law Enforcement, which is fun and some really good episodes. So there’s room for rewatches, but except for the Fun Episodes, it’s not really comforting.

I do enjoy Parks and Recs, mostly. Tom is a lot, especially in the early seasons; I don’t do well with that particular brand of womanizing character, and I had to fight my way through season one, but then they really hit their stride. I love Leslie’s and Ron’s friendship, and generally a lot of th friendships and romances in the show are just really well done. I really disliked Andy in season one, but he got good with April. Ron and April is adorable and of course, Ben is just a gem in whatever combo.

I do rewatch Leverage a lot, Sophie is a queen, I loooove the OT3 and watching evil rich people get what they deserve is just very cathartic right now. Plus, I love a good heist and the new characters in the reboot are actually great. Maybe I should rewatch White Collar next...

Recently, I rewatched the Good Place and Schitt’s Creek, though I do have to fast forward through the more annoying scenes with Roland and Moira, sometimes they get a little much 😅

Sometimes, I rewatch old Crime shows, the early seasons of Bones and Castle, before they went too far off the rails lol. Like all procedural shows, they somehow think they need to go bigger every season, with bigger and badder villains, and it just gets ridiculous when an NYPD homicide detective needs to save New York from a bomb and Homeland only sends someone to liaison. Well, you know, more ridiculous than it is anyway. There’s a sweet spot, and small procedural shows saving cities/states/the world ain’t it.

I do also rewatch movies a lot, old romcoms, old action movies, Star Wars and Marvel when it was still good. Easy viewing. And now I just sound really old and crotchety…

I also like new stuff! And sometimes, when I have enough spoons or the right company, I even watch more serious and heavy stuff. It depends a little on whatever is available on streaming, I don't have all services all the time, so sometimes I'm limited in my choices.

A Jamie-centric pre-OT3 Christmas story told in 25 short chapters.

Another fucking draw. At least they’d actually scored in this one (Obisanya 26, Tartt 74), but what good was that when they let the other team net the ball just as many times? Jamie stared morosely at his Lynx collection, trying to muster the energy to change out of his kit. He was sweaty, his hair was a mess, and his side ached dully from a nasty tackle near the final whistle; taking a shower would be heaven. But he was too tired to move.

It wasn’t so much the game that left him exhausted, even though it sure took its physical toll. The past ten days had been a mad flurry of setting up surprise after surprise for Roy, and that had involved more gift hunting, eavesdropping and secret sneaking around than Jamie had ever thought he’d get up to. Between that and football and team Christmas bonding there’d barely been time for sleeping and eating.

And after all that, he still hadn’t called Mummy. He’d tried to, every single night, but he just. couldn’t. do. it. Apparently his efforts still weren’t up to scratch, which was baffling, to be honest: how fucking sad was Roy that not even the truly fanastic stuff Jamie had pulled for him had made him happy? Christmas was only days away, and Jamie was running out of both ideas and time. Could he get Sade to actually write Roy a song… ? Might be too much, though, even if he managed to figure out how to sort it. It’d give the bugger a heart attack or something, and that would make Keeley sad and probably not count as him doing a nice thing, even if it’d be dead unfair of the universe to blame him for Roy being a frail old man.

Perhaps he could invite Dani out for another brainstorming session; it had worked a treat last time. Jamie was pretty sure that Roy had appreciated his gifts and gestures, from what peeks he’d managed to sneak of the man. Just not appreciated them enough, apparently.

It also seemed like maybe Roy was getting a tiny bit suspicious. Yesterday, he’d kept turning his head every this way and that, and sometimes stopping dead in the street and whirling around, looking a little wild-eyed. At one point Jamie had had to dive behind a couple of large rubbish bins to avoid detection. That was a pair of perfectly ripped trousers he’d never wear again.

Fuck, but he wished that—

“Jamie, are you feeling well?”

Jamie turned to look at Sam, who had stopped by his cubby, already changed and with a concerned pinch to his kind face. He looked just slightly, slightly hesitant, as if he wasn’t sure if his question would yield an answer or something sharp and snide. Jamie made an effort to smile. “Yeah, bruv, I’m sound. Just, you know, tired of not winning.

“It is disappointing. But, thanks to you it was a draw instead of a loss. And it was a very nice goal too.”

At the praise, Jamie felt his smile grow easier, more sincere. It had been a very nice goal, hadn’t it? Good of Sam to notice.

“Yeah, yeah, thanks mate. And yours were great too, you know?” he added, remembering what Dr. Sharon had said about how acknowledging other people’s accomplishments did not diminsh Jamie’s own.

The way Sam’s lips curled into a wide grin, mirroring Jamie’s own, and the way the sight of it made Jamie feel warm had him thinking she was onto something there.

“Thanks, Jamie,” Sam said simply, and gave him a friendly nod before walking back to his own cubby.

Still smiling, Jamie finally began to undress.

Once he was showered and changed and Ted had somehow talked them all into feeling determined and hopeful rather than dejected, Jamie hefted his bag and headed for the door. On his way out he passed by Keeley and Rebecca Welton, offering a smile to the former and a polite nod to the latter.

Keeley lit up when she saw him (and fuck, but that still did things to him, didn’t it?). “Hi, Jamie,” she said. “Listen, I was wondering if you could stop by my place tomorrow? I wanted to talk to you about some new tweaks to your brand, now that you’re playing again?”

Jamie perked right up at that. Talking to Keeley and discussing his brand? Fucking brilliant. Much better than spending another day trying to figure out what would possible make Roy Kent happy enough to appease the universe into letting Jamie call his mum.

He’d been working hard. He deserved a little break. Besides, hanging out with Keeley at her place might well yield some new Roy related ideas.

“Yeah, mint, yeah,” he said. Then a thought occurred to him and he frowned. “Or, actually, no, I can’t. The team’s doing a day trip Winchester Christmas Market after our recovery sessions. Sorry.”

He was, too. As much as he was growing to appreciate the lads and was looking forward to the trip, he’d rather spend some time with Keeley (and his brand was in sore need of some brushing up, ‘cause people were still being cunts and hung up about him walking out on City and Amy and stupid shit like that).

“Oh.” Keeley looked disappointed, which cheered him a little. “Tuesday?” she suggested.

“Sure, yeah. I mean, I’ve got training, but I could drop by after? Unless you wanna… “ He nodded towards her closed office door.

“No! I mean… No. There’s been… there’s an issue with the ventilation, yeah, it smells awful in there. Like dying animals and farts and baby vomit. Blegh. You don’t wanna go in there.”

Uh, yeah, no thank you, he sure as hell did not. Jamie made a face. “Yeah, all right,” he said. “I’ll just come by yours then?”

She nodded, looking relieved. “Great! Thank you, Jamie!”

“You’re all right.” He gave her another smile, Rebecca another nod (and noted that she for some reason seemed like she was struggling not to either roll her eyers or laugh, which was kind of rude, considering how hard Keeley worked for her and all, and she really should get Keeley’s office sorted), before heading out to his car.

So. Fun trip with the boys tomorrow – maybe he’d find something nice for Mummy and for Roy at the Christmas market – and then hanging out with Keeley the day after. So-so playing and his mummy issues aside, life wasn't so bad.

We think the same

So do you ever watch something and somewhere along the way you have a thought about what would be fun way for this plotline to go to only to dismiss it as far fetched? But then it actually happens?

Because I've been watching Hazbin Hotel and half way through I realised the same guy voiced two characters and it seemed perfect since both of them felt like they've been misplaced. I kept thinking how they really should swap places between Heaven and Hell. And now they basically did. It was great. Such things make one feel like the person on the other end thinks in similar way.

This is even more true when it happens in a way that would never happen in media before. The kind of solutions and narratives that you only joke about because they never happen. First time I realised this was when I was watching Sense8 and started thinking it too bad one of the characters in a love triangle would get written off. He was more of an obstacle in a star crossed romance than a rival so pretty much disposable in every story. I still thought what it'd be cute if it all could end in OT3 instead. And then rejected it because the show was already kind of doing that with other characters so it can't happen again, right? But it still did. I was as flabbergasted as I was delighted.

I really should remember that I'm now closer in age and formative experiences to people in charge of writing stuff than before means I get to enjoy seeing that random thought fully rendered in canon from time to time. We all do. Because I'm clearly not the only one.

Because there wasn't a single good thing about Adam and Sir Pentious was so bad at being bad it. And they both got what they deserved and are where they belong.

How many works do you have on AO3?

"Only" 21, but I tend to focus on multi-chapter works and collections

2. What's your total AO3 words count?

685,120

However, I must point out that at least a dozen k or so are duplicated, as I slowly fit my event entry chapters into their parent fics. I am tracking my actual word count in an Excel document, but I am a bit behind there as I have not tracked said event entries, just the ones that have been copied into their parent fics.

3. What fandoms do you write for?

Primarily the first four generations of the Love Live franchise. I have done a little with Star Trek: Deep Space 9 and Dungeons and Dragons, but both portrayed as TTRPGs being played by the Love Live characters.

At least that is what I have posted on tumblr and AO3.

4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

How to Handle a Nico: A collection of stories that take place at various points in the lives of Maki and Nico from the School Idol Project generation. There are a few recurring themes that run through things to connect them, but I do try to keep them somewhat able to stand on their own as one-shots or short arcs. It is mostly canon compliant. Other ships in my LL fleet show up from time to time.

Happy Life: Like HtHaN, it is a collection of stories that take place over the course of the focal characters' lives, but this time the main couple is Riko and Yoshiko Yohane from the Sunshine generation. I label this work as an Angelic AU, but I have challenged myself to do so in such a way that it remains canon compliant.

Tri-Arame: Like HtHaN and HL before it, it is a collection of loosely related chapters. This work is also my first foray into writing an OT3 as my flagship for an LL generation, as I was indecisive about which ship to sail as said flagship, so I just put them all together. Thus, Yuu, Ayumu and Setsuna from the Nijigasaki generation are a trio here.

How to Handle a Maki: An RPG styled AU with NicoMaki as the primary pairing. This one was inspired by some wonderful fan art by one of my favorite artists. There's only one chapter so far... one really long chapter... and I've written a few extra things as event entries that I've yet to integrate into the parent fic. But I definitely need to get back to this one soon'ish. I really like the idea.

Promptober-2021: My first time participating in an event in the Idol Fanfic Heaven Discord channel. This collection started my habit of worldbuilding my monster theater AU, Putting on Hairs, in event collections. The AU really lends itself easily to many prompts.

5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

I love responding to comments, and even feel bad if it feels like too much time has passed before I do so. As for why I love responding, it is because it is a way for me to interact with my readers. I also know how much courage it takes to leave a comment, as it is something I myself struggle with, so I want to show my appreciation with a response.

6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

That really depends on how one defines "ending"...

Taken as a one-shot, The Incident in HtHaN would be pretty angsty. The play, Detective Otosu (name may yet change), in PoH, has an angsty/depressing/downer ending; I wrote other scenes from the play for the same event collection. And many of the characters in my unposted D&D story have pretty angsty endings to their arcs; e.g. one has their spirit/soul trapped in a gem where they remain in a state of semi-consciousness but unable to communicate with the world around them.

That all said, I don't really do much angst. I prefer happy fluff.

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Again, this depends on how one defines ending. I focus on collections or anthologies that will likely be added to as long as I retain interest in doing so. As such, were I to choose specific entries in these collections, I would say that the chapters where the primary pairing or trio finally gets together would be the happiest. These chapters are Morning in HtHaN, the Revelations arc of HL, and Change Overnight in TA.

8. Do you get hate on fics?

While I would hesitate to outright call it hate, I definitely reached a point of utter frustration with a thread of comments that I decided it best to delete them. A graveyard of (Previous comment deleted) tombstones remains on a chapter of HtHaN, forever reminding me of the fated exchange, and that I apparently deleted them in the wrong order, according to the FAQ of AO3.

That said I have received more hate via direct message on various social media platforms for having the audacity to ship NicoMaki and YohaRiko, than for any fic chapters I have posted to tumblr or AO3.

However, I have mentioned a time or two that I deleted my first fanfic.net account due to hate/harassment. But I've done my best to move on from that.

9. Do you write smut. If so what kind?

I have written some smut prior to getting into Love Live, but I have never posted it online for others to see. And I likely never will. And the longer I go without writing it, the less interest I have in doing so again.

10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?

Sorta. As mentioned above, I have written DS9 and D&D stuff, but as TTRPGs played by the LL girls. This isn't to say I won't write some crossover AU in the future.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not to my knowledge.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

Again, not to my knowledge.

13. Have you ever cowritten a fic before?

I suppose it depends on how one defines cowrite. My D&D story takes place in a world that was already established by my DM. I take pride in expanding their world with my stories and happily brainstorm with them even to this day, despite not having written much in the last decade or so.

14. What's your all-time favourite ship?

NicoMaki has been established in my eternal flagship, and I do not see that changing anytime soon. And YohaRiko and YuuAyuSetsu are fighting for second place.

15. What's a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?

I honestly hope I can get around to all of them. But with how things are going, what little I've started writing for my Phatom of the Opera crossover of HtHaN, HL and TA, and my Broken Mirror crossover of every iteration of Yohane across my works.

16. What are your writing strengths?

Finding creative ways of saying things; thesaurus.com is one of my favorite sites.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Probably exposition. I'm constantly second guessing myself about whether I'm writing enough or too much. Occasionally rereading my posted works, I will wonder what I was thinking dumping so much as to risk distracting the reader, or hoping my readers know what is going on.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

I mean I happily use Japanese honorifics in all of my posted works, so that may count. I also occasionally use words that I feel translate awkwardly. However, when someone talks a lot in a language other than the primary one of the scene, and the focus character of the scene understands it, I will simply enclose the dialogue in brackets and mention the language used.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

Technically, Star Trek, but that was years before I posted anything online. I may still have the wide ruled notebooks with those handwritten stories.

Lucky Star was the first fandom for which I posted fics. But the account associated with those works has since been deleted, and I'm also fairly certain my copies were lost in a harddrive crash.

20. Favourite fic you've ever written?

Honestly, How to Handle a Nico (1), will forever hold a special place in my heart as it rekindled my desire to write, having not done so for years. When I first posted that short exchange between adult aged Nico and Maki, mostly as a joke, on School Idol Tomodachi, I never expected that it would turn into the 124 chapter, 224k word collection. Nor that I would follow it up with over 400k words spread across multiple other works. Nor that I would retain the desire to continue writing for the LL franchise over half a decade later.

I try to but have been failing to follow through recently just because of...life and fandom still being kind of an uneasy place for me.

6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

most definitely "death is just so full (and man so small)" for Once Upon a Time. henry dies. it's not a good time for anyone but it was useful for processing some personal grief so there's that. but i do trend angsty overall tbh.

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

i have a few fics that i would consider to be fluffier but idk, i think "heaven help the ones who fly away" is maybe what i would personally consider my fic with the happiest ending? others may disagree, however. a few different Swan Queen fics would probably qualify

8. Do you get hate on fics?

on occasion, but it mostly rolls off my back because the issues are really with reading comprehension and a refusal to accept more complicated characterization than the fluffiest fandom interpretations.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

most definitely, yes. 2022 was the year of smut for me, actually. but it's always centered in exploring relationships and characters. like, yes, the idea might be centered around a threesome, but also, i'm going to throw in a character coming to terms with their sexuality and two people growing in their relationship.

10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?

I've only written one true crossover, which is "here to kingdom come" (Leverage crossed over into Hunger Games). i'm actually in the middle of rewriting this one from scratch and really want to build up steam on it because it's going to be a bit of a behemoth but it's also living in my brain 24/7. would love to get part 1 fully written and edited so i can post in 2024.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

not that i'm aware of. benefits of not being fandom popular :)

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

yes, the two fics i wrote for the Suits fandom were translated

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

i was part of a round robin swan queen collaboration and wrote the epilogue for it. (was supposed to do a chapter earlier in the fic but dropped out due to life things and was able to tap back in for the last bit. it was pretty fun) the fic was "Bring Her Home" - Once Upon a Time; Swan Queen

14. What's your all-time favourite ship?

this is hard because the ones that stand the test of time are all my favorites. i think top three are swan queen (once upon a time), nate/sophie (leverage), and tara/sophie (leverage). also, special mentions for the leverage ot3 and dragon queen. also my beloveds

15. What's the WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

probably the sequel to "but i leave in my heart." not because i don't have anything written (10k last i checked) and not for a lack of desire tbh. but after everything, i still recoil when i actually try to engage with any swan queen fic ideas (or once upon a time at all) due to fandom bullshit and idk if that will ever go away. which is deeply frustrating.

16. What are your writing strengths?

i think dialogue and general characterization? i don't like to write fic until i feel like i've grasped the rhythms of a character in my head first

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

actually sitting down to write is always going to be one. and the other is setting descriptions. i think it's because i'm so hopeless at mentally placing myself in a physical space. i'm trying to work on it.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

so, one thing i try to keep in consideration is that i don't speak anything other than English nor can i read any languages other than English beyond being able to pick up on some things due to context clues or my vaguely remembered high school Spanish courses. so i would need to feel comfortable that i was sure that i had translated everything properly. which means, other than small phrases i've gleaned from books or terms of affection, i probably won't bother for fic unless i feel very strongly that it's relevant to the character and that story. and then i would run it by someone who could give me real feedback on it if possible. like most things, the question always comes down to: does this fit the character and the situation and is it the only approach that will work?

19. First fandom you wrote for?

animated justice league series. shipped batman and wonder woman so hard in that show.

20. Favourite fic you've ever written?

i have a hard time picking favorites since most of my fics are written to fulfill what i want to see. i have three because they all fulfilled very specific niches for me. 1. but i leave in my heart - Once Upon a Time; Swan Queen (this fic will always be very special to me because i was so let down by the show's split queen storyline and i found most fics around it to be too driven by regina's relationship with emma rather than regina's character journey) 2. come up for air - Once Upon a Time; Swan Queen (i wanted a fic to address hook's involvement in regina's torture in s2 and since there wasn't one, i wrote it) 3. let's get physical - Leverage; Nate/Sophie and Nate/Sophie/Vlad (there was literally only one other fic about this specific pairing and i had been wanting to write one for it since i first saw that episode when it aired and i finally got around to indulging myself)

dog i cannot explain to you what this is. at all. this night was a blur and somehow i ended up writing a little drabble for this idea we came up with in the ot3 server, and it's not done enough for me to put on ao3 but i want to go to bed and i still want to send it to them so here it is.

cw: mommy kink, next-door-neighbor and milf marinette, university students luka / adrien living off campus, ot3

“You two know I don’t mind homosexuality— oh, Christ, I sound like a grandmother. Please, no, let me explain”—it’s not as if they exactly have a choice, not with the way she raises a single finger to shush them both as if they were about to leap for her throats for the potentially upsetting comment—“I adore you both. I am very much pro-sex underneath our roofs, I’m a—”

“—Ally?” Adrien offers.

“God, no. A bisexual,” she continues, cool as a cucumber, “and I’ve always been ever since I was young enough to figure out that fingering girls in the bathroom at school was like heaven. I have nothing against gay sex and I never have, and I do not ever want my boys to think they’re not allowed to fuck.”

The silence settles again. Luka tries not to look at her fingers, and tries not to wonder how many times they’ve been in someone. He’s doing a shit job. His cock is far too interested to stop.

“But I just can’t let you two fuck without condoms,” she sighs at the two of them, putting her hands on her thick hips. The two of them shrink in their spots, shying away at being chided. “I want my boys healthy.”

“Marinette—”

“Healthy,” she reiterates, almost begging.

They’re on their lovingly used— he refuses to call it old— couch, each trying to keep modest with a single couch pillow over their crotch and a haphazard, itchy throw blanket over them both. Luka knows that the pillow wouldn’t have been enough for Adrien, who seems to move and itch and scratch the fabric all over in an attempt to have a reason to take it off and deliver some bullshit line about how Marinette deserves to see him naked.

Perhaps she’ll see me and think I’m delectable, Adrien always attempts to reason with him. Look at me. Who could resist?

That blanket is necessary. For his sanity and for Marinette’s… eyes. Adrien is a handful, though Marinette’s never not been able to handle him, but this is uncharted territory. Spare glances to one another and sexual tension aside.

She’s twenty years older than us, Luka keeps telling his boyfriend.

To which Adrien always answers back: Come on. Live a little. What other twenty-two year olds can claim they scored their next door neighbor who’s also a literal MILF?

God, how he wants to agree. He’s got it just as bad, though he reasons he’s doing a much better job at hiding it; meanwhile if Marinette wants Adrien to help her with chores around her apartment, Adrien’s at the door already scrabbling for the door handle in order to cross the hall and get into her space. If she calls him Kitty-cat, he’s purring for her.

Adrien is a lost cause when it comes to her. At least Luka hides his mommy kink, but his boyfriend is impossible to reason with when it comes to tits. Marinette’s tits.

Maybe Luka can somehow convince her to turn away. Maybe Luka can convince her to go back into the kitchen where she was mere minutes ago while he’d had Adrien at the bathroom counter— they hadn’t heard her walk into their own apartment, thinking that they didn’t have any guests— fruitlessly calling out their names in an attempt to get their attention. A left-alone Marinette is a dangerous one, and while him and Adrien have always known, they’ve both definitely learned their lesson tonight. The poor woman was just looking to tell them she’d made them dinner and was dropping it off…

Maybe he can stage an emergency.

He was checking my dick, Luka’s mind first comes up with. Or, rather, we just needed to make sure that his ass was in order. He’d complained that he’d lost feeling…

Not working. But it’s better than just staring at her in the same way puppies or kittens do when they’re completely unsure on how to navigate the room. Even sweat drying against the nape of his neck, with his balls aching and begging to be soothed and a dick that is harder than granite while staring at her cleavage, the most uncomfortable thing is how her eyes glitter at them both. He imagines a paddle in her hand, or at least a firm scolding with a lot of ass slapping, scolding them for misbehaving. Maybe Adrien’s imagining it too, though more… sexually… because Adrien’s breath hitches.

They’re screwed.

The more she purses her lips— even bothers to pull on a single lock of hair that she has in that high ponytail fitting for a mother who’s been in the kitchen all night— it makes more and more sense why Adrien’s fingers are moving quicker and quicker on the fabric. Thank god for this blanket.

She breaks the silence. “Also, you’ll fart come bubbles out of your ass if you don’t use a condom.”

Luka does his best not to get whiplash. “Huh?”

“Come bubbles?” she narrows his eyes when he refuses to recognize what she’s saying. She sits herself down on their ottoman, and Luka does his absolute best not to watch that poor little stool flatten and warp underneath such an ass. “You’ve never had come leak out of your ass? It’s so uncomfortable, isn’t it?”

Luka is so brave. He’s the bravest man in the world.

“I remember when I had my first orgy back when I was younger and it happened to me the first time. I was so miserable on that toilet, come dripping out of me like a damp rag.”

“How younger?” Adrien blurts out.

“Good question. I can’t remember where my kid was left with, if I’d left him at his grandma’s, or…” She’s prone to doing this a lot. She seems to misplace her kid everywhere, this poor man. Luka’s never met him, but feels sympathy. There’s a bit of an airyness to Marinette. Something ditzy. It goes with her personality and the way she expresses herself: lots of pink, and elegant little jewelry, like this set she’s wearing now. A simple v-neck dress that gathers and flows at her ankles in an attempt to be summery even though nights in their city dip into chilly weather, and a dazzling little gold necklace with her favorite bead that has a stick figure of a little boy. No shoes on as she digs her feet into their rug, anklets jingling as she bounces all of her weight on her toes, because even though they don’t have that shoe rule in their apartment, she does it anyway.

“Oh, I remember! I didn’t have a baby at the time, because it was my first true sex experience. Everything else was… nothing compared to this.”

Luka does the quickest math he’s ever been able to do. “Oh. Nineteen… eighty seven?”

“Not sure. I don’t think it was even eighty five, though. It certainly felt younger.”

He blanches. That’s. That’s not even legal. “You went to an orgy without being of age?” he asks. It’s a pathetic little squeak, really. He’s still dealing with his hard-on.

“Well, it was the eighties,” she lobbies. Side-eyeing him when she realizes he knows her birth year. “Seventeen and all. Anyway. Where was I?” Finding her point again, she trudges forward. “Ah, right! Come bubbles.”

Adrien squirms. “Marinette, I would really love to have this conversation, I would, I of all people know the importance of sex education, but we—”

“—I really can’t have you two fucking without a condom.” She waves Adrien off. “You know what come bubbles are, don’t you, baby?”

He has the audacity to narrow his eyes. “Why are you asking me and not Luka?”

“Well, I… it’s—”

“Do you think I’m always getting fucked?” Adrien asks honestly, a smile sliding onto his face. “Because I assure you, I like fucking people.”

“Uhm.” Marinette pinks. She has freckles along with age lines on her face, and it’s a symphony of beauty as she blushes. It’s hard to find her doing it, somehow always keeping her cool even when she makes it as far as coming across them fucking each other silly in their private bathroom in their private apartment, but now the reality seems to be dawning on her.

There are two young naked men staring at her under a scratchy blanket.

She found them fucking.

She’d brought them dinner as usual, only to find them like this. Distantly, he wonders if the dinner is actually an offering of peace after she’d woken them up the previous week during finals with her Nutribullet and devastatingly thin walls that had Adrien knocking on her door and begging for reprieve. They’d sent their valiant soldier. She’d been adamant about him trying her new spinach-kale delight. Adrien had promptly come back home and decided that perhaps god was in fact found in morning smoothies, something starstruck and horny on his face. Mumbling something about being ordered to drink from her favorite glass straw, Adrien had only been able to relay the bare bones about how apologetic she was, before burying his face in Luka’s chest, talking about how even at six in the morning Marinette wears lipstick.

Adrien adores her lipstick. Just as much as he adores getting his ass railed in the bathroom, which was what Luka was attempting to do before this divine intervention.

“Well I’m sure you do, Kitty-cat,” she murmurs. “But you’re the one I found bottoming, baby. Without a condom. Were you going to come inside?”

“He usually does.”

“How do you deal with the come afterwards?”

Luka wants to die as Adrien answers: “Felching.”

“Oh,” Marinette answers. Wisely. Smartly. Wide lips made smaller. “I guess you can’t get come bubbles like that, huh?”

And here’s where Luka has to nip Adrien’s next sentence in the bud before it takes root. He knows that face. “Would you like me to prove how effective it is in—”

“—Marinette, we really don’t need the condoms,” Luka tries.

Hihi! ^ ^ Again, thank you for the magnificent writing, it has so much character to it -- and the girlies are as charismatic! A gem, truly, gives awestrucks and will never stop keep on giving them, ever. :3c

I can only wonder how did you come around the very idea; as a fellow ot3 enjoyer, who'd fallen upwards to the girlies heavens and was slammed through the ceiling, I can only say, it was accidental and sudden --and started as, like, came for one ship, side-glanced at another, then stayed for ot3!-- and was, still is an absolutely zero regrets experience. :D

Wish we would've gotten the fully developed companion mechanic in the final game; it would be possible to run around the grounds and the valley with not just one but two companions, just imagining the friendly banter between Poppy and Imelda warms my heart a lot. ^ ^

The second question is going to be fueled by a concern, however: will you back The Two Snakes up, along with some other things, on AO3, at some point? :c Tumblr has just recently purged hogwartslegacyreactions and imeldafckngreyes blogs for no reason, so much stuff including wlw has been lost in just a week or two… :'c

I honestly think I could devote a whole novel to this like… yeah I kinda came from the same place, starting off shipping my Slytherin MC with Poppy (cause don’t even get me started on how Slytherpuff is simply the best pairing ever?) And then I got into my whole Imelda phase, and the more I started comparing them the more it made sense as in – two feisty smoll beans who are both passionate about what they’re doing and have this lowkey introverted side, though they gradually warm up to mc through the progression of their quests? They’re literally perfect for each other.

Then I started reading a bunch of Ominis x MC x Sebastian poly fics and I got inspired and the rest is history, really. And you’re too right, writing these fics has always been my way of bringing to life ships and interactions that I wish we could have seen in the game and it’s just so damn satisfying to do even though I guess it’s kind of niche? (but then again I write most of my stuff for self indulgence anyway, lol)

Also yeah, backing up my content to AO3 is a project I’m trying to get going in the near future!! I was so sad to see hogwartslegacyreactions and especially imeldafkingreyes disappear too, I never got to tell her but she’s lowkey the reason I got into writing Imelda fics in the first place ☺️

Anyway I absolutely mean for my writing to remain a safe heaven for the HL wlw crowd even if I were to eventually move on to other things, so expect some updates on this front soon. Thank you so much for your kind words, it means a lot to me that you’re enjoying my humble brainrot products 🖤

Ehgn. I have a couple that I think about more than others but I don’t necessarily consider them OTPs. If I had to pick a relatively popular one, Utaren is neat!

My NOTP:

Garden Child x Garden Child when it’s encouraged. I don’t really mind when it’s a narrative examining those unhealthy one-sided relationships without endorsing them, because Ihei’s fascination with Arima and Furuta’s with Rize are large portions of their canon characterization. But they’re still all half-siblings and I don’t think I could see them working in an actual requited ship anyways, especially considering it's not really a "romantic" attachment for either of them, so much as a deeply desperate one.

MY OT3:

Seiakimon, Itorizeto.

A currently canon ship I’m okay with but don’t prefer:

Touken, I know I’ve ranted about how much it confuses me but I don’t actively hate the ship, it simply is. It feels a little odd and unrealistic, but so are a lot of my own pairings.

I don’t throw (large) stones from this glass house. You won’t see me making art for it by choice but it’s not hurting anyone so, do what you need to do.

A ship that would only work in an AU but would be awesome:

I think I’ve talked about how in canon Arima feels too bitchless to be shipped with anyone in adulthood, but AU AriEto is hilarious. Also I saw Hajime x Yusa about 6 years post-canon in an AU where the prior survived once, and that was interesting.

A ship I’d like to see explored but not stick around:

Furutui, I don't know why I like it. Leave my brain alone.

A ship that may as well be canon:

Sometimes I forget that Ayato x Hinami isn’t canon, it kind of is right? They’re sweet, I like it sometimes but I feel like both of them are a little overrated, and that extends to my feelings about the ship.

The ships I’d give my OTP pair if the other died:

I don’t want to inflict Furuta on anyone. It feels mean. Anyone would rightfully hate feeling attracted to this guy, and he hates feeling. I want them to die together.

Koori can kiss Ihei in heaven (?) while the other one rots in what I’d say would be hell, but I don’t think the devil wants this bastard around either.

A crossover ship I’d dig:

Platonic Juuzou and Zazie the Beast. Living embodiments of that one meme “THEY/THEM OUT CAUSING MAY/HEM”

A ship that would work great in a Coffee Shop AU:

Canon is the coffee shop AU. I don’t know? I could make a coffee shop AU work for just about anyone but if I had to pick characters that have no relation to Anteiku… Mutsurie and MutsKanae could work excellently either way.

A ship that would work great in a sitcom AU:

Suzuhan, (They’re pretty much a comedy duo already) Shuunaki, (But just about anything with Shuu in it could work well) and whatever the ship name for Saiko x Hsiao is.

Just thinking about Great Moon Hoax ships. Honestly, these are also really good as friendships

Samuel x Benjamin - Classic besties to lovers, or besties with something more and I love that for them. It makes Benjamin picking up the notebook and reading it and returning it and publishing it, so much sweeter. But it also makes the betrayal much more painful. As well as him feeling left behind while the Stratfords succeed. And Sam didn’t mean to make him feel left out, he tried to assure Benjamin he’d be recognized for his efforts too.

Rose x Benjamin - I’ve read that he did have a bit of a crush on her, and who would fault him? Even if Benjamin worked a thankless job, Rose still tells him she appreciates his help genuinely. I don’t think she knew about Thomas’ treatment of Benjamin, but if she did, she might hit him upside the head with her printing press plate.

Samuel x Margaret - Ugh. So good. The Sun and Moon ship. Literally too, cuz the song Margaret and the Moon is followed by Samuel and the Sun. You know how in mythology, beautiful ethereal goddesses sometimes fall for mortal men because they see veneration and learn something about humanity from them? Yeah. Those are the vibes this ship gives. Also, Samuel putting in the effort to win her trust back.

Rose x Margaret - This elicits dreamy sighs and longing. They have the same interests and Rose believed Margaret’s home must be heaven. And Margaret does let her read there as much as she could, heck, she might have even had book recommendations that she was happy to share. Rose happened to also know that Margaret would be on the roof in the end. Also, the girl who loves learning about the stars, and the girl who shines like the moon? Impeccable. Couple this with Samuel x Benjamin or Samuel x John Herschel, and you get mlm wlw solidarity.

Samuel x John Herschel - I feel like there should be more interaction before these two first, but I wouldn’t discount it entirely. Samuel is most likely just as knowledgeable about his work as Rose is, Rose just happens to be more of a fangirl. There’s potential tho.

Rose x John Herschel - The mutual admiration for each other’s intelligence and skills is already there. And then they’re gonna be working together on stuff they’re both passionate about. (Here’s to hoping he recommends her to the Royal Astronomical Society since Rose mentions they’re letting women in)

Margaret x John Herschel - Honestly tho, who wouldn’t be entranced by Margaret Cavendish? Also this is similar to Rose x Margaret in that, it’s the dude who’s dedicated himself to studying celestial bodies and the brilliant lady who gives off her own light. I could also see them possibly subconsciously co-parenting the Stratfords.

Stratfords x Benjamin - Would be a good ot3 imo. Also makes the betrayal even angstier

Stratfords x Margaret - I feel like they’d be soft. Especially with her letting them stay at her place that time.

Stratfords x John Herschel - There’s potential, yeah.

Stratfords x Margaret x John Herschel - Ultimate astronomy polycule, they would be unstoppable.

Margaret x the Moon - How sure are we she wasn’t actually chosen by Artemis or Selene or Diana or Cybele as a lover?

3. What fandoms do you write for?

Started with Warehouse 13 and bering and wells, then wandered into OUAT and Swanqueen, then DWP and Mirandy, then a stint in Pitch Perfect 2 specifically for Becommissar because mmm Kommissar, a blip into Supergirl some for Supercat, more for General Danvers (tangentially also Supercorp but that's more for the fact that I run the chirstmas exchange than anything, love those kids, not my usual ship), and a crossover or two with Legends of Tomorrow with Supercanaary in there too in that same era, two seconds in ot3 shipping in The Greatest Showman because Jenny Lind mhm, one fic in Steven Universe because poly!diamonds, then into Harry Potter for anything to do with the Black Sisters and Hermione and occasionally Lucius which is still on going, but a bit backburnered because I've also fallen into writing fic for The Librarians this year centered around some pairing of Cassandra, Eve and Jenkins for the most part. Basically. It's a lot, and a lot of bouncing around between larger eras in specific fandoms lol.

5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

I try to as much as possible, especially in smaller fandoms. Sometimes I get a bit overwhelmed at it falls by the wayside, but I come back eventually.

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

Uhhhhhh there's usually one in every fandom I stay in for long enough where I just go full nuclear angst and no happy ending. Probably the worst of the worst Offenders is "I Hate to Kill You (I Hate to Die)" for obvious reasons if you've read it, but "of all the things I never told you" and "Halfway Through the Woods" are also up there and in probably last place but still *very* angsty is "Better This Way"

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Hard to pick. Save for those fics I'm a happy ending hoe. Probably the most rewarding happy ending will be for "The Sun Must Set to Rise" but that isn't published yet. I'm actually procrastinating the wrap up that story right now by doing this 😂😅

8. Do you get hate on fic?

Out right "you suck" hate? Once or twice. But there has been whining in the past on my stories about how I never finish anything or that I update too slow and why am I like this. *Those comments get responded to with some lessons in manners*

9. Do you write smut?

*looks at the tab beside Sun Must Set to Rise* I have no idea what you're talking about. But yeah, some pwp but a lot of smut as the pay off in long fics to put that cherry on top of them.

10. Do you write crossovers?

Have before, though they aren't my main thing, and unclear if Supergirl/Legends counts since like. The shows actually did that themselves once a season 😂

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

I think I ended up on a scraping website that people posted about on tumblr all of once. Not mad about not having to fight that lol.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

I've had people ask before, but they're on different databases than ao3 so I haven't really checked on how that went for them.

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

Several! Two of my closest fandom friends have cowritten with me and one IRL friend. Some of them got finished, others did not, but it was fun along the way.

14. What’s your all-time favourite ship?

??????? I know there are people out there who have stuck in one fandom and only one fandom for longer than I've been writing and they definitely have the answer to this, but I have ADHD and doooooo not. If I had to pick at gunpoint, I'd probably say Harry Potter Hat Trick, but unless you point a gun at me I'm not answering.

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but probably won’t?

Probably "Sometimes it's Soft Hands and Mailing Envelopes" it was a big part of my life in 2015 and I obsessed over it and wrote it and its sequel at such a fast pace, especially for going into my senior year of college. But I've reread the prequel and it's cute and I started reading it over again and just went 'I know where I wanted this to go, I can see how I would get there, I don't want to do that though' because it's a very slice of life story about moving in with your girlfriend and both you and your girlfriend navigating a new job/grad school and I've lived both of those experiences now, and especially I do not want to relive grad school, but also I don't usually write long slice of life things anymore. Sci-fi/fantasy and plot heavy for lyfe lol. But I do wish I had finished it at the time.

16. What are your writing strengths?

I think over arching plot, like I'm good at fitting the pieces together where they need to go to make a believable story, which is good when you tend towards writing more mystery-esque 'solve a problem' fic. Also dialogue as a secondary. There is no struggle here to make these bitches say words.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

I have DEBILITATING wordy bitch disease. This could be managed if I edited stories before posting them, but I don't. I'm doing well to edit my original work, thanks. So it leads to a lot of fics that are probably 20-50k too long and drag on the point for a bit. I *have* gotten better at it though. The White Queen is probably 100k too long oh my god, I try to forget she exists, even if it's one of the most popular fics I've written.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

I have before, mostly in Pitch Perfect since Kommissar is German. It was a good experience. I probably wouldn't do it again unless I either knew the language or it was made up. In text notes so the reader gets what was said are the most awkward thing to deal with in the history of ever.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

Warehouse 13. I hadn't known about fic for that long before starting to write for it. I also hadn't realized that I was a big ole homo, which in the late 00s/early 10s fanfic was the only fucking way I was going to see two ladies kiss and by god I was going to leverage the award winning writing skills I had gained writing terrible, original, teenager ficition to do it.

20. Favorite fic you’ve written?

I think for a long, long time it was Of Cats, Giraffes, and Mice. It's just so very soft and caring and for a long while I could just feel that care and sink right into it and it just felt like the best thing I'd ever written. Rereading it now, it's still a very good fic, but I'm starting to see the little holes here and there as I grow as a writer. It's still good! I love it to death, and to talk about favorites without it would be incomplete, but I think that it's important to mention that even your best work eventually loses a bit of shine, no less dear, a huge stepping stone in the right direction, just not the top one anymore.

I think now my favorite is Heaven When We're Home. It has all of those hallmarks that Of Cats, Giraffes, and Mice did, if shorter, and there's a lyrical note to the writing and word choice in it that I have NO idea how I did (not being sober when writing probably didn't hurt) and I'm still chasing that sort of writing even now 2 years later.
