How do you work out dosage for shrooms? Is it by weight/set number of mushrooms or is it based off body weight?

My own body weight and the psilocin content of the shrooms. For my body weight (~65kg), a normal dose is 2g for dry shrooms or 20g of fresh (for P. cubensis, the most common species of shroom grown in captivity). Generally the rule is 1:10 from dry to fresh, but most people consume on dry. So 1g of dry shrooms is equivalent to 10g of fresh. Also: caps contain more psilocin than the stems.

But also it ranges from person to person.

The general GUIDELINES are (for P. cubensis--these rules will vary by species):

Micro dose: 0.05-0.25g dry/0.5-2.5g fresh. Mood enhancement, increased concentration, better mental stamina.

Mini dose: 0.25-0.75g dry/2.5-7.5g fresh. Mild euphoria, physical depressant ("stoned"), visual enhancement, memory anomalies, altered sound perception. THIS IS THE HIGHEST THAT BEGINNERS SHOULD START AT.

Museum dose: 0.5-1.5g dry/5.0-15.0g fresh. Vivid colours, visuals, distracted thoughts, enhanced creativity. This is generally considered to be the threshold where you're "high".

Moderate dose: 2.0-3.5g dry/20.0-35.0g fresh. Warped visuals, mild hallucinations, minor synaesthesia if you're lucky, distorted sense of time.

Mega dose: 3.5-5.0g dry/35.0-50.0g fresh. Heavy hallucinations, ego dissolution, mild disconnect from reality, loss of time, synaesthesia, out of body experiences.

Heroic dose: 5.0+g dry/50.0+g fresh. Complete sense alteration, ego death, complete disconnect from reality. THIS IS FOR EXPERIENCED VETERAN PSYCHONAUTS ONLY. YOU WILL DESTROY YOUR MIND IF YOU TRY THIS AND AREN'T READY FOR IT.

I'm currently on a mini/museum dose at 0.5g dry of P. cubensis. Over the years I've done this I've slowly worked out the levels where I start having a change in effects, so I know what my limits are. If you're inexperienced or ever in doubt, always dose low.

Any advice on p nats? Trying to grow them for the first time and my tubs are all covered in thick overlay. Only getting a few fruits to pop through on the sides.

Hey mycopal! Thanks for the question! I’ve seen many who work with P Nats say that they experience overlay more than with Cubensis! I’ve been fortunate that my strain isolated haven’t seemed prone to that. Imo: if you are getting overlay, a good step is to increase your fresh air input while maintaining 90% humidity. You can mist walls as they dry, but don’t mist the mycelium directly to not bruise nor splash spread unseen microbes :) If you increase the fresh air early on when observing mycelial surface shifting to overlay, i believe this will slow it down and or reverse it :) overlay is, afaik, a colony defense mechanism most often response to environmental inadequacies, with less likely but possible: contam response. If the overlay is… hardened, for lack of better word, your best options are either fork scrape or fork perforation :) if you are going to scrape, take a fresh plastic fork, spray with iso let to dry, then gently scrape the surface layer of overlay and sort of… redistribute it evenly over the surface, then cover with a loose .25” casing layer of substrate :) if perforating, which is what i prefer, do same with the fork except instead of scraping, you gently poke holes into the overlay, only far enough to peirce the overlay mat, exposing the substrate and inner mycelial strands often directly under overlay, to fresh air and humidity dropping down the newly created holes :) — no casing needed for this method and this method can lead to pins forming inside the holes and fruiting occurs albeit it maybe more confined but still comes up out the holes :)

@mondayhares yes! Ty for saying so! I took these genetics out of a year cold storage just to get some fruits and make prints. I have another tub of them coming in for me to do golden swabs ^_^ haha. This variety is special for the golden brown spores! Many Cubensis usually will have black spore prints! The P. natalensis i posted in recent weeks are purple/black ^_^

I went to a mushroom and wild food foraging festival over the weekend and it was just... exactly what I hoped it would be and perhaps even more so.

a pair of middle-aged lesbians who were there with their dogs shared a raw vegan apricot and ginger macaroon with me

I befriended two members of a polycule (who apparently live quite close to me -- we instantly started making plans to hunt feral asparagus next spring; I'm hoping to spin this into an actual friendship)

I learned how to us federal data to map ideal spots to hunt burn morels and felt the Morel Madness rising in me again

there were barefooted old men who could instantly identify just about any mushroom they were handed (and usually had a fun fact about them as well)

there was a lady who hikes 100 miles to a different mushroom festival each year while only eating what she can forage from the wild along the way

a P. cubensis made its way onto the ID table and some guy traded for it lol

I brought home a bagful of hawk's wings and made lentil and mushroom soup with them. I feel well-nourished in more ways than one.

Yes I'm on mushrooms. Psilocybin cubensis for today.

Yes I eat them. The only way to do shrooms is to ingest them. Some people grind them into a powder that they use to bake stuff like brownies or cookies, other people steep them in tea/put the ground powder into tea and drink it, most of us just eat them though. They're a little bitter so I usually measure out my dose (I consume dried) and then put them on some toast with jam, peanut butter, or Vegemite.

It's just doing a lower than average dose so you don't trip but instead just have a pleasant muted effect. You can read more about it here. :]
