In just a few short weeks, I'll be welcoming a new baby into the world. As I prepare to take some time off after delivery, I'm already thinking about the way life will change and what needs to happen in order to make sure everything goes smoothly during my absence. And while thinking through all of these things can be overwhelming at times (especially when it comes to balancing work with new motherhood), it's important that I communicate clearly with both my employer and colleagues so they know what's going on with me as well. That's why writing a maternity leave letter is such an important step—it sets the tone for any discussions about what type of accommodations or other needs you may have once back at work after giving birth (and even before!).

The UK will spend £4 billion more on childcare to boost the economy. Is it enough? Ahead of the UK government’s budget announced by Jeremy Hunt this week, rumours were flying around the country’s kid-friendly cafés. Would the government really extend its policy of providing 30 hours of free childcare for all three- and four-year-olds to children as young as one? One mother on a WhatsApp group in…Read more... https://qz.com/the-uk-will-spend-4-billion-more-on-childcare-to-boost-1850231781

For mums that are going back to work life simply has to fall into some sort of routine Doing things on demand, all day, every day, simply isn't viable any longer But where do you start? and how do you balance your need for the alarm clock and your baby's 24/7 on demand schedule they have nicely got used to 😜 You start GENTLY! Do these 3 things at the same time every day: ☀️ wake, or get, your baby up at the same time every morning 🍼 feed your baby lunch at the same time every day 🛌 put your baby to bed at the same time every evening WHY? Just like your body, and brain, gets accustomed to things like alarm clocks, sun rise, sun set, tea time, lunch time, dinner time so does your baby's body and brain ... this is gently, but systematically, setting your baby's circadian rhythm (to times that best suit your families schedule) WHAT HAPPENS IF: 🤷🏻‍♀️ Wake up, have lunch or put them to bed later one day? - reduce the rest of the day's activities and naps by small increments to get yourself back on track by bedtime 🤦‍♀️ They wake up earlier from a morning nap? - bring lunchtime forward a little 🙋🏼‍♀️ They wake up earlier from an afternoon nap? - bring bedtime forward a little WHAT HAPPENS WHEN? 🥱 Dropping a morning nap? - bring lunchtime forward by 30 mins 🥱 Dropping an afternoon nap? - bring bedtime forward by 30 mins BONUS: for some families these three simple steps are enough to create just enough routine to help them glide through the main transitions ahead of them, namely heading back to work and the 4 month developmental mountain 🎗 SAVE this post for future ⭐️ FOLLOW for more tips on how to handle BACK TO WORK after maternity leave 📞 If you're really struggling, or need more specific answers to the questions raised in this post, don't hesitate to arrange a FREE 20 min Call (🔗 in bio) 📷 @zebrajojophotography #workingmum #workingmom #workingmothers #backtowork #workingmums #maternityleave #parentalleave #empowayourmotherhood #empowasg #doulasg #postpartumdoula #postpartumconsultant #sgmums #singaporemums #sgmummies #sgmummybloger #sgexpat #expatmums https://www.instagram.com/p/ClYcZanJZgP/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Sweden: Where it's taboo for dads to skip...
By giving parents choice and flexibility about how and when to use the benefit, proponents of Sweden's policy point out the practical benefits to both workers and businesses. #parentalleave #benefits #workculture

The new reforms will give the same amount of leave (164 days, or around 6.6 months) to both parents, regardless of their gender, a move the government said promotes gender equality and inclusivity. Pregnant women will get an additional month on top of this quota and single parents will be able to use the total allowance offered to two parents. Marin, the youngest prime minister in the world, admitted at the time Finland needed to reform its parental leave policy, explaining that “too few fathers were spending time with their children while they were young.” Sweden has the most generous paid leave allowance in Europe for both sexes, offering parents a total quota of 480 days, or 240 days each. Zomato introduces revolutionary parental leave policy in Australia
Tumblr media
For women across the globe (working in offices spread around 13 countries including Australia) Zomato will be offering 26 weeks paid parental leave. For the men? Exactly the same – no hint of difference between genders.
In addition, Zomato understands how important the first few months welcoming a tiny new family member can be. As such, the company will offer an endowment of USD $1000 per new child, to assist and empower families as they navigate parenthood.
This groundbreaking policy is also fully applicable to non-birthing parents, cases of surrogacy, adoption, and same-sex partners.  Employees who have had a child within the last six months are also entitled to these benefits.
If both parents work at Zomato, that’s 52 weeks a new baby gets to spend with its new parents.
Why the change? "At Zomato, we believe that people produce their best work when their personal and professional goals meaningfully intersect and align," says CEO Deepinder Goyal.
"We have always taken pride in building a culture of meritocracy – something that starts failing when it comes to equality between men and women at the workplace. This happens for various reasons – societal norms, precedents, and sometimes, even government policies," Goyal says.
"One core issue that leads to fewer women leaders in organisations, the community, and the nation is the lack of universal paid parental leave.
“Currently, it is hard for women to lead a healthy family life and focus on their careers, leading to a lot of women leaving their jobs or putting their careers on the back burner. This results in a pressing lack of diversity across all levels of the organisation, and needs to be solved proactively."
"There’s an African adage – it takes a village to raise a child. And while a village is ideal, a world where both parents are allowed, rather encouraged assuming equal responsibility is a fair start. We will never have truly gender-neutral organisations unless we have gender-neutral communities and gender-neutral nations."

Salary transparency alone won’t close the pay gap A growing number of US states and localities have laws mandating pay transparency, with requirements varying from state to state. Beginning in 2021, Colorado required all companies to include a salary range and benefits on their job listings. A law put on the books in New York City last fall is similar, adding a “good…Read more... https://qz.com/salary-transparency-alone-won-t-close-the-pay-gap-1850222120

Sweden: Where it's taboo for dads to skip...
"Moberg argues that – in professional settings at least – workplace culture has shifted. 'There is now a little bit of stigma on men who don't take leave," he says. 'It's so kind of ingrained now that being a good father, a modern father, is to take at least some leave." #parentalleave #benefits #workculture
