Casual and incredibly quickly-conceived update to Honey's basic pokémon outline, starting with the main "team" I could see her keeping on hand, ( though it's actually quite flexible ):

Tinkaton & Ceruledge are the primary battlers, but she's probably literally never seen without her Dachsbun, who spends 99.9% of their time outside a pokéball. Not entirely pictured here, however, is her fairly diverse cast of sous-chef and shop assistant pokés. Shout out to this tag on one of my earliest posts like this, years back: #|| what if instead it was like. fire or steel types. and they're all baking/kitchen assistants in her patisserie.

We're absolutely rolling with that. Vanilluxe and Glaceon to help with the cold desserts, Ceruledge and Tinkaton's hammer & blades seeing far more use as ( slightly impractical ) kitchen tools than they ever do honest-to-goodness battles... in virtually every other verse, Honey's shop assistants are all her own summoned familiars; so really, it only makes sense she'd follow suit with 'mons.

Suppose I should make a personal intro post before I start posting business stuff.

Hello, my name is Scotti, he/him pronouns. I own the Pastries and Pokémon Café in Castelia City. We're not like, super popular yet since we just opened fairly recently, but I'm trying to help find Pokémon from the local shelter some good homes and I figured I could put my baking to use to kind of help make that happen?

Oh, I know I say "we" a lot when I talk about the café and that might be confusing since I'm the only human working there, but that's because three of my own Pokémon help me with the food and drink prep! Custard, my sweet baby boy Alcremie, helps me take orders and assigns the 'mons from the shelter to partner up with customers for their meals. He has a good sense for which 'mons might make a good match for which people. I don't know how he does it! Bruleé, my Quilava, does the drinks. She makes the best cup of coffee I have ever had, and customers love when she perks her head over the counter to watch them drink her creations. Finally, Macaron, my Slurpuff, helps me with the patisserie aspects of the café. He's a very sweet little man who loves to make berry tarts, and he definitely has never once snuck a few berries for himself while decorating them!

Recently as part of my deal with the Castelia Pokémon Rescue, I've begun fostering one of their "Problem 'Mons" to help show my customers that any Pokémon is adoptable as long as they find the right trainer, but... Well, to put it lightly, you might see a lot of vent posts about a certain little bastard in the future. I won't say names for now, but you'll know.

Wait! I have a companion Monkees post for the Who pokemon gym leader AU one! Hear me out!

Mike is a Flying-type gym leader, whose gym is located in a big ranch on the outskirts of town. The place is packed with Miltank, Tauros and other farm pokemon, which Mike is very proud of. He uses his Pokemon to monitor the ranch to look for predators and intruders. He has a Dodrio (which he also uses to travel around the ranch), a Staraptor and a (male) Unfezant.

Davy is a combination actor+gym leader, and because of that he's as popular as Roger, but he tries to keep things separated (aka he doesn't make an spectacle out of his fights like Roger) and his gym is actually pretty modest. A small, inviting gym with decor that resembles a patisserie to go along with his Fairy-type 'mon. Has a Slurpuff, a Daschbun and an Alcremie. He's originally from Paldea (NOT Galar, why everyone thinks so???)

Peter is a very talented Grass-type gym leader who also keeps busy with Pokemon breeding. He loves the intricacies of combining strong stats and such, and while he's a revered figure in the breeding scene, he's very humble and his gym is nestled in the woods next to the town he's the gym leader of, right beside his home/"lab", for the lack of a better term. He's got a Breloom and an Appletun. A Tangrowth too maybe?

Finally, Micky is a teacher (kinda like a primary school teacher) who uses his gym battles as a way to teach his students Pokemon fundamentals. His Electric types are all very friendly looking and approachable so the kids feel safe while having lots of fun!! His team is Rotom (who he often changes form just because) and Ampharos. Perhaps Dedenne too?

“I never danced before,” she said, softly under the wind’s hums as they observed the lace-adorned park from the safety of a patisserie’s terrace; the lanterns hung on the trees painting the dancing pairs in a haze glow.

“Do you want to?” It sounded steady enough, but in truth, his heartbeats were as erratic as the flickers of the malfunctioning lantern at the very edge of the park.

The way she stammered and how her eyes—moonlit under her crimson mask—briefly went askance flattered and boosted his confidence enough for him to remain steady on his feet when he stood upright, offering her his hand and bowing deeply.

“Milady,” he couldn’t resist saying, opening an eye to see her eyes sparkled with muffled laughter.

“Mon Chaton.” She returned the bow, placing her hand in his. Then she glanced up at him, smiling impishly, and grasped both of his hands to whirl him around her, getting a shriek out of his lips before laughter filled the air as he took hold of her wrists and pulled her backwards with him.

None knew what kind of dance they were doing or if they were in sync with the park’s ball music.

So I was listening to the Duolingo French podcast today. I think it was the most recent episode, Jan 30. It's the one about French pastries: Paris - Le goût des patisseries. (Omg, I think I gained 10 lbs just listening to it.)

One of the pastries they mention is Paris-Brest. I don't know what that is. So I looked it up and found various photos. It didn't strike me as being anything special.

It mentioned that it's made with choux pastry. What the heck is choux pastry?? So I looked that up. It's a light and fluffy pastry made with basically just butter, water, flour and egg. It doesn't have any ingredient that would normally be used to make dough fluffy (yeast, baking powder), it's basically the water steaming that makes it puff up.

Wait a minute... This sounded familiar...

My mom used to make cream puffs. They were delicious and they were my favourite of the desserts she used to make. She explained to me once the physics of how the water has to steam out in order for the pastry to puff up.

She got the recipe out of a Betty Crocker cookbook. I have that cookbook now. See photos for the recipe.

So this Paris-Brest pastry sounds delicious after all. 😄

By the way, choux means "cabbages" in French (singular: chou). Apparently the puff pastries look a bit like little cabbages, so that is how this pastry got its name.

Now the term of endearment "mon petit chou" makes more sense. It must be referring to the cute and sweet little puff pastry, not a giant, not-exactly-attractive nutritious-but-boring vegetable.

Did Myles ask for keys to get into Julien's apartment? And did Myles spend the day making an array of desserts in his kitchen for his birthday? Yes. Yes he did. Pumpkin bread, cream cheese stuffed caramel cookies, normal chocolate chip cookies, a strawberry peach cobbler, a few orange marmalade pastries, and kiwi creme tarts. Each neatly boxed or bagged on the counter, still warm. On the table is a rather expensive wine whose bottled date is Julien's birthday and a few orders of take out sushi. "I'd have made dinner but I don't trust myself for that," there's a shy laughter, but he's a bit excited- "once you're settled and we've eaten, I've booked us the evening at the infinity pool across the way - you know the one that overlooks the concert hall? There's a musician performing and we'll get to watch it from the water. I thought you might... enjoy that."

julien's belated birthday ✯ always accepting!!

For most, it'd be unnerving when another asks for keys to their place of living ( especially considering Julien's... hobbies ), but for Julien, he's simply a sucker for Myles through and through, handing over his keys along with an invitation to help himself without a moment of hesitation. Perhaps it's a show of how much he utterly trusts and adores Myles... or perhaps he's grown too soft on the other, as Takeshi would say, but in either case, when he walks into his apartment to the smell of sweets and patisseries in the air, he knows he can't even BOTHER to care.

There's no hiding the warm, soft smile that takes over his face as he takes in the state of his dinner table. Mismatched eyes trail up towards his paramour's face, strong arms reaching out to envelop the other in a hug that he hopes can only begin to convey his GRATITUDE for him. ❝ I enjoy it all, ❞ is his coarse murmur, temporarily choked up with the feelings of contentment coursing through his veins at that moment. After a moment, he pulls back, eyes closed as he places a long, TENDER kiss on Myles' forehead. ❝ Thank you, mon cher, for all of this. You are... incredible. ❞
