An Adam/Blake Gay Subtext in Drunk History Episode 3.13
I've done 15 reviews of Adam Devine's non-Gemstone work. Are you getting tired of them?
I didn't think so.
Drunk History (2013-2019) is a comedy series in which drunken comedians describe historical events to a narrator, in this case Derek Waters (below), who responds approvingly with smiles and laughter. Meanwhile they are acted out by guest stars (with the comedian providing the voices).
In Episode 3.15, "Space," Kyle Kenane tells the stories of Carl Sagan falling in love with Ann Druyan, Werner von Braun inventing rockets, and two Russian cosmonauts becoming the first humans in space. We'll start with the last story.
In 1965, cosmonauts Pavel Belyayev (Adam Devine) and Alexey Leonov (Blake Anderson, his co-star on Workaholics) have nothing going on in their lives, so they volunteer for the space mission. Alexey, in addition, will take a space walk.
They do the standard comedic hand-holding and hugging during the various crises on the flight, but the gay subtext intensifies when they crash-land in Siberia. They are 2,000 kilometers from home, in the middle of mating season. Wolves and bears approach "with raging hard-ons." The guys look at each other, and Pavel says: "I guess we can start with some sweet kisses."
Wait -- do they intend to mate with the animals or with each other? Their expression seems to suggest each other.
Then they are rescued, hug, and receive accolades back home in Moscow. Good luck as a gay couple in 1960s Russia, guys. End of segment.
That's quite a lot of queer codes for six minutes.

What do you think about Alexei Leonov/Pavel Belyayev? (don’t know what the hell the ship name would be, but man they had some chemistry in The Spacewalker)
To be honest with you, I think they would make a cute couple. Still they had a comradely kinship to them, and honestly, when I startes researching stuff about Cosmonauts when I was a kid (about 9 years old) I shipped them so hard. Soviet Union pushed for every citizen to see each other as comrades on the path to socialism. The close bond between Leonov Belyayev, and the Socialist Fraternal Kiss is just evidence of a kinship among comrades (and in Slavic countries you sometimes greet people with a kiss) but I see that is waa nothing more than comrades being comrades. Though I would still kill to ship them though 😉
