Unveiling the Stunning Seguin Island Light Station in Phippsburg, Maine, captured from above with my drone. by Barry Mullin
Fun Fact: Rumor has it that Seguin Island is haunted. A Lighthouse Keeper got a piano for his bored wife, but her repetitive playing drove him to madness. Tragically, they both met a grim fate. Today, eerie piano music and the playful spirit of a young girl linger on the island.

World Laughter Day
It boosts your mood, and even lengthens your life. Watch your  favorite comedy, read a funny book, or gather some friends to tell jokes  and get your diaphragm working.
Everybody knows that laughing feels good, but few realize how  valuable these simple tools can be in improving our everyday wellness  and wellbeing. Laughter cannot heal or solve anything, but it can help  to heal and dissolve everything. That’s what World Laughter Day is for!  It’s a day where people can relieve some stress and laugh. Discover a  new happiness workout and learn about what happens during World Laughter  Day!
History of World Laughter Day
World Laughter Day is an annual event celebrated worldwide to raise  awareness about laughter and its many healing benefits, as well as about  thousands of community groups around the world who regularly practice  comedy that promote wellness and overall well-being. World Laughter Day  is celebrated in most large cities around the world. Hundreds of people  gather worldwide on that day to laugh together. It has been celebrated  in Los Angeles since 2005 and has since spread all over the world as a  way to express people’s love for comedy and laughter.
World Laughter Day is celebrated also by a congregation of laughter  club members, their families and friends in their city like big squares,  public parks or auditoriums. Laughter clubs usually have a variety  entertainment program of music, dance and laughter contests. Winners are  those with the most infectious, natural and effortless laughter.  Laughter club members during this day participate in a peace march and  carry banners and placards such as “World Peace Through Laughter, The  Whole World Is An Extended Family, Join a Community Laughter Club – it’s  free!” etc. During the march all chant “Ho Ho, Ha-Ha-Ha” and “very  good, very good, yay!” clapping and dancing. This is known to be one of  the best ways that laughter clubs help you have a good time and join a  laughter club for special benefits.
Health benefits of laughter
Is there any better feeling than a deep-rooted belly laugh? Not only  does it help us to connect with those we’re laughing with, but there are  a number of health benefits that are associated with laughing as well.  This includes the following…
Produces a general sense of well-being – One of  the main benefits associated with laughter is that you’re generally  going to feel better! If you laugh a lot, you’re going to be more of a  positive person, and this can impact your life in so many different  ways.
The release of endorphins is triggered –  Endorphins are the natural painkillers within your body. They are  released when you laugh. This can help you to feel good all over while  easing chronic pain at the same time.
Boost T-cells –  Laughter can also boost T-cells. These are specialized cells in your  immune system, which are simply waiting to be activated. When you laugh,  T-cells are brought to life, and they can help you to fight off  sickness. So, next time you feel like you have a cold coming on, why not  add some giggling and chuckling to your prevention strategy?
Improve cardiac health –  Laughter is an exceptional cardio workout, particularly for anyone who  is not able to do other types of physical activity because of illness or  injury. It will get your heart pumping, enabling you to burn around a  similar amount to the calories you would burn while walking at a slow to  moderate pace.
Work your abs – One of the  advantages associated with laughter is that it will tone your abs. The  muscles in your tummy begin expanding and contracting when you’re  laughing. This is similar to when you exercise your abs intentionally.  At the same time, the muscles that are not in use when you are laughing  will get the chance to relax. Is there any better way to get a toned  stomach than having a good laugh?
Reduce stress hormone levels  – Aside from this, a reduction in your level of stress hormones is  another benefit! This helps to cut the stress and anxiety that impacts  your body. Moreover, the reduction of stress hormones can cause a higher  immune system performance.
Lowers blood pressure – Last but not least, laughing can lower your blood pressure. This can reduce your risk of a heart attack or a stroke.
How to Celebrate World Laughter Day
Want to have a good laugh? Go to a laughter club. Through them, you  can preview new comedians and see what they have to offer in terms of  comedic fun. If you want to be a comedian, learn from the best by  joining comedy acts and taking part in improvisation classes. If you  want, share some funny jokes on social media through the hashtag  #WorldLaughterDay and have a good laugh with your friends by watching  your favorite comedians on Netflix.
Here are some other ways that you can bring some more laughter to your life on World Laughter Day…
Start a Joke Jar – This is a good activity to get  the whole family involved in. Simply grab a jar and get people to write a  joke on a piece of paper and place it inside of the jar whenever they  think of one. Next time you have a family dinner or someone needs  cheering up, you can grab some jokes from the Joke Jar.
Learn to laugh at yourself – Take this day as an  opportunity to teach yourself how to laugh at yourself properly. Most of  us take ourselves too seriously! Learning to laugh at yourself enables  you to be more vulnerable and more authentic – both are great traits to  have.

Walk in Philipsburg
Yesterday after work I went with another intern for a walk in Philipsburg. We was going to meet with another friend that we saw on Saturday to. We wanted to sit somewhere, talk about our day and relax. Many things around us were already closed because of the time. But there is also the boardwalk, with plenty others things to see and we ended up here. At the Holland House Beach Hotel, what is very nice to drink something. Without staying in the hotel, your welcome to come here, to sit back and relax. After this we went home and eat.

🇸🇽 NATIONAL FLAG DAY 🇸🇽 The flag of Sint Maarten is the national flag of Sint Maarten, a country within the Kingdom of the Netherlands occupying the southern half of the island of Saint Martin. The flag, designed by 17 year old Roselle Richardson, was officially adopted on 13 June 1985.   Sint Maarten, as a Dutch possession on the island of Saint Martin, had been solely under the Netherlands national flag until, after becoming a component of the Netherlands Antilles, it also began flying that territory’s flag when it was introduced in 1959. However, Sint Maarten wished to have its own flag. Many suggestions for a flag design were made, including incorporating a number of distinctive symbols, before the government decided upon the final version. That flag, which included the coat of arms of Sint Maarten (established for the territory on Nov. 17, 1982), was introduced on June 13, 1985. Upon the dissolution of the Netherlands Antilles on Oct. 10, 2010, Sint Maarten became an autonomous state within the Kingdom of the Netherlands, and the flag of Sint Maarten replaced that of the Netherlands Antilles as the territorial standard. The design of the coat of arms is centred on a rendering of the distinctive courthouse at Philipsburg (Sint Maarten’s capital), which is set within an orange-bordered light blue shield. There are also a bouquet of yellow sage blossoms (genus Lantana) with green leaves, a rendering of the white monument demarcating the border between the French and Dutch parts of the island, and a gray pelican superimposed on a yellow sun above the shield. Wrapped around the lower portion of the shield is a yellow ribbon containing, in light blue lettering, the territorial motto: “Semper progrediens” (“Always progressing”). The colours of the flag and coat of arms symbolize blue for the sea, light blue for the sky, green for the fertility of the island, red for the blood of the inhabitants, and yellow for the energy of the people. #stmaarten #philipsburg #sintmaarten #nationflagday #stmaartentourism #june13th #beeksphotos #6132022 (at Philipsburg, Sint Maarten) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cev-sNuOXyC/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

National Happiness Happens Day
Read on to see how happiness happens and see how you can make it happen today, on Happiness Happens Day, August 8. Happiness — it’s what people want most out of life. If we aren’t actively looking for it, we are talking about it, spreading it, dreaming about it, or, hopefully, experiencing it. For many, it’s a goal to be happy. Then, there are those who always just seem happy. How do they do it? Is it naturally in them or do they work at it?
History of Happiness Happens Day
The Secret Society of Happy People, founded in 1998 by Pamela Gail Johnson, was originally a ‘secret’ society to allow members to talk about everything that made them happy because they were genuinely happy people, but they did so secretly so as not to allow overhearing Debbie Downers to rain on their parade. From this came their slogan, “Are you happier than you admit you are?.”
They created Admit You’re Happy Day in 1999, which eventually evolved to Happiness Happens Day. In 2000, they declared the month of August as Happiness Happens Month because, well, why limit a celebration of happiness to one day? Every year, a theme is chosen for Happiness Happens Month. In 2019, they encouraged everyone to acknowledge people who make them smile, also known as our ‘Smile Starters.’
The Society offers many tools and resources to promote happiness, personally, at work, and in the community. For example, they created a Happiness Counter to help you recognize daily happy moments that tend to be overlooked. It lists 31 ‘types’ of happiness that people often feel or experience throughout the day. At the end of each day, you can reflect on how many of them you experienced and realize you had more moments of happiness than you acknowledged and embraced during the day.
Over the years, more and more people have talked about happiness — how to get happy, be happy, find happiness, spread happiness. With that, the popularity of the Society grew — so much so, they outgrew the need for secrecy! So, in 2019, the group became simply the Society of Happy People.
Happiness Happens Day timeline

Happiness Happens Day Activities
Be a smile-starter
Give kudos
Make a list
Make others happy through small, smile-inducing gestures: write a handwritten letter, call, send flowers, or bake cookies. The list of ways you can spread cheer to others is truly endless but be sure to mention today is Happiness Happens Day and that they can make it happen by passing it on!
Seek someone out to thank or compliment them for a job well done. When we let people know how much we appreciate or admire them, it exponentially increases happiness, not only for them but also for you.
Make a list of things that make you happy and things you see as happiness zappers. Knowing the zappers may help you avoid them or, at least, better prepare for responding to them. Also, when you recognize happiness zappers for what they are, you can more quickly reframe your state of mind and move thoughts to the list of things that make you happy.
5 Amazing Ways To Choose Happiness
Gratitude
Volunteer
Give
Encourage
Reminisce
Expressing gratitude leads to an overall optimistic attitude; it is consistently and strongly correlated to feelings of happiness.
Giving of your time to help others has been shown to decrease feelings of depression and improve optimism and a sense of worth.
We’ve all heard the phrase: it is better to give than to receive — yes, giving is another action that leads to happiness and benefits the giver as much, if not more, than the receiver.
Lifting others up brings about a reciprocal effect — put out positive thoughts and feelings and this is what you will likely receive in return.
Spend some time looking at old photos, flipping through high school yearbooks, or reading old letters and you will find feelings of happiness overflowing as you stroll down memory lane.
WHY WE LOVE HAPPINESS HAPPENS DAY
We want to be happy
Happiness is contagious
Happiness helps you live longer
In a 2016 survey, when Americans were asked which they would prefer: to have a happy life or a life of achievement, 81% of people answered they would rather be happy! Being happy is important so we love having a day dedicated to making happiness happen.
Studies of social networks have revealed that not only does your direct circle of friends impact how happy you are but people you know indirectly can, too, so we want happiness to extend well beyond our innermost circle.
Medical studies have shown happy people are more likely to live longer due to having a stronger immune system, fewer aches and pains, and decreased stress, blood pressure, and heart rate.
