Joseph heard Audie and Rondo return. He dashed to where the main door was, and he stopped in seeing them come in. "Is.. Is she?" He asked, slowly coming to them, his arms raised to try and take Florence into his own arms. Like hell he was going to let her stand on her own if he could help it.

Audie nodded at his father. "She's back. She's still unconscious, but she'll come to soon." The Espeon held Florence out, allowing Joseph to take her.

Rondo walked in behind Audie, smiling as she saw Joseph and Florence reunited once again. "Isaak has also let us know that they've removed Abominae from Mom, so it won't be coming back and cause a repeat of this... Disaster."

OK Agent 32 Side Order drabble GO.

Agent 8 (or Shelly, as they had been told by their close friend, Matt- though, Pearl and Marina still called them Eight.) had become quite accustomed to climbing the Tower of Order at this point. Nearly halfway through all the Pallettes, the difficulty never even surpassed that of Girl Power Station, which still gave them stress dreams on occasion. They had hoped those Octolings had gotten free, but they pushed that thought to the back of their mind for now. There were other things to worry about.

Like finishing Agent 4's Pallette.

"Eight, are you with us?"

Marina's voice shook Shelly back to reality- or as close to reality as one can get in the Memverse.

"Oh, uh... yeah, Marina. I'm fine."

A flash of pink flooded Shelly's eye's- Pearl had suddenly flew right up into their face to get her battle buddy's attention.

"You better be! We're coming up on a boss floor! Yo, Rina! What floor's up next?" The drone yelled excitedly.

"Um... intensifying_harmony.floor! So you're going against the Parallel Canon next!"

Shelly froze. That boss. The one they had extreme suspicions about. The one that strangely resembled their boyfriend.

"Eight? Hello?"

"I'm fine! Let's go!"

"Ahem."

Acht's sudden noise made the group turn to them, as if they had forgotten that they were there in the first place.

"... Am I really that quiet? Whatever. Eight, if you're not feeling up to it, we can go back to the foyer or Marina can switch the boss to the Asynchronous Rondo, it's no problem."

Shelly shook their head. It's not like they had told their companions about their suspicions yet, and they didn't want them to worry... though from the looks on the other's faces, they already were.

"Seriously, it's fine. Come on Pearl, let's go beat these guys!"

"That's what I like to hear! Team Eight rides again!!"

"Well then, stay safe. Marina and I will be here keeping the elevator warm."

The elevator door opened up to the balcony, and Shelly rushed to the cage as quickly as possible. They could see the Parallel Canon in the distance, each of them getting ready to take them on. As soon as they landed, the first wave started- the pair of gray helmeted "Inklings" wasted no time trying to take down their Octoling adversary, but failed miserably as always. The second wave fared no better, each of them going down quickly thanks to the many power chips in Shelly's current Pallette. Though, strangely... the masked Inkling hadn't dropped yet. Odd, it usually comes in the second wave...

"EIGHT, WATCH IT!"

Pearl's shout managed to snap Shelly out of their trance, and just in time, too- they were almost the victim of a Triple-Splashdown. Luckily, they were able to dodge roll away, and Pearl took the Inkling down with an Inkstrike. The next 3 were splatted just as easily... which left the final one. This time, Shelly would get to actually have a look at this Inkling to see if their suspicions were true. It rode the cage and immediately used a Triple-Splashdown, and as the ink settled... Shelly got a good look at him. They'd recognize that dumb spikey hair from anywhere- it was him. Agent 4.

Archie.

Their heart jumped, and not in a good way. They had hoped that Archie had managed to stay out of this, but somehow he was sucked in too, now mindlessly serving as defense for Smollusk just as Marina was before.

"Arch-"

Splat.

He had gotten the jump on them. One life down.

"Eight?! What the heck was that?! Don't tell me you froze!" Pearl said, getting right back into Shelly's face again.

"I... that's... that Inkling, it's... Four."

"Wait. Your roommate? The one who's Pallette you're running right now?"

"Well... we're more than roommates, but..."

"YOU'RE DATING SOMEONE?!"

"That's not important right now, Pearl! Can you just help me free him like we freed Marina?"

"Of course! But we're gonna have a conversation about this later, y'hear?"

"Yeah, I know."

The ensuing fight took up the rest of Shelly's lives. Most of them were wasted trying to reason with the greyscaled Inkling, but now they had a plan. Pearl set her Killer Wail to a non-lethal level, and as soon as Archie's body was just destabilized enough, Shelly would rush in and rip the mask right off his face- it sounded just stupid enough to work. When the Killer Wail ended and the Inkling was practically melting apart, Shelly ambushed him from behind, grabbing the mask from the chin and pulling as hard as possible. Archie screamed in pain- though digitalized through a filter, Shelly knew it was him. The dense, chaotic, lovable squid they loved dearly.

"Sorry, Archie, but this is hurting me way more than it's hurting you!"

A few more tugs, and Shelly heard a click- they hoped it was something good, but the hope was momentarily dashed when Archie threw them off of him.

"What the shell are you doing, Shelly?!"

He actually spoke. Though garbled, that was him, his real self.

"Archie! It's me, don't panic, let me help!"

"Y-you're hurting me! I can do it on my own!"

"Calm down, please! Just let me get the mask off of your face!"

Archie didn't let them. He just kept pulling, and each time, the color returned to his skin and tentacles, but...

"I-I can’t... I can't get it off!! H-Help!!"

Shelly walked back over to him, and kneeled down. There were tears pouring from the red eye sockets of the mask- it was truly stuck. He tried to pull it more, but Shelly stopped him.

"Don't hurt hurt yourself, Archie. It's going to be alright."

They kissed him on the forehead of the metal mask, and it finally fell off. His colors were back to normal, and the greyscaling had been undone. The Tower seemed to count that as a victory, and on the platform behind them, the locker key formed.

But that could wait. Despite Pearl's protests, Shelly comforted Archie in their arms, both soaked head to toe in ink.

It was surprisingly nice.

"Thanks..."

"You're welcome."

"Don't let me go."

"I won't."

considering tsukasa himself is rather loud, the both of you get along pretty well!

sure, you might be considered a strange person, but so is he, and to an extent, rui! when he finally introduces you to the rest of wonderlands x showtime, they're all thrilled to meet you!

not to mention, your cheerful and outgoing personality makes you easy to hear in the crowds when he performs.

and, as always, tsukasa gets even more motivated to put on a good performance. not just for the audience but also for you.

★ track two: otori emu

you see, emu could feel it in the air when you two passed by each other in miyamasuzaka. it's not every day you meet someone incredibly similar to you, after all.

it was almost like there was a second emu when you were there, or a second you when emu was there. many people said you were like long-lost twins, even if you don't look all that similar!

adores dragging you around different areas with her. malls, amusement parks, restaurants... you name it, emu's already grabbing your wrist and taking you along with her.

★ track three: kusanagi nene

considering she's great friends with a certain pink-haired member of her unit, it's no surprise you and nene got along pretty well. maybe not immediately, but the important part is that you got there!

your cheerful and optimistic nature helps a lot with nene's stage fright early on. even if you're a little loud and it might bother her at times, the fact that you're there to support her when she needed it most was special.

★ track four: kamishiro rui

another oddball like yourself, rui warmed up to you almost instantly. in a way, you were like a mix of emu and tsukasa, of course he would!

he tends to worry about your airheadedness, though. which is also why he tries to keep an eye on you as much as he can when you're near his robots. at the very least, rui doesn't add self-destruct buttons to his robots.

I actually really kinda want Castlevania Nocturne to lean into the fact that, technicallly speaking, Maria is one of the most powerful Castlevania characters.

(At least in Rondo of Blood. Yes it was kind of an easy joke route, but I just LOVE the concept that one of the most powerful major characters in the castlevania universe was a little girl who wore pink and then grew up to run around castlevania by herself trying to save Richter. Sure, Alucard gets to do a lot of the cool stuff and ultimately beats her in battle, but you can't convince me Maria wasn't off kicking a ton of ass off screen.)

Just saying. Would be awesome.

I am keen on Valkyrie's lyrics and, since I am an absolute fanatic for symbolism in arts, why not babble, yet again, about how marvelous Mika and Shu's relationship is, like a nightingale's song? I am indebted to Shu for making me learn new English words every time he has a dialogue, thus this is my compensation. He'll be one of the people I'll thank for my C2 (hopefully) at CAE.

"Dragée" is a small silver-coloured ball used in decoration of desserts, usually cakes. It's an obvious contradiction regarding the moon's shape, since it is mentioned to be crescent. Knowing the crescent moon, in alchemy, used to symbolize silver, it might confirm the moon and the dragée are one and the same.

The crescent moon could represent Mika. In the character profile on the fanwiki, it is mentioned that the name Mika might come from 三日月 (mikadzuki), meaning "crescent moon", deduction made from the pun in his solo song, Rondo of Amber and Lapis Lazuli. In Greek mythology, the crescent moon is a symbol of Diana, the goddess of the moon, representing the female principle as a juxtaposition of the Sun, Apollo, the male principle. Knowing Mika is often associated with femininity, even by his name, and that Shu is "his light" to him (him being the shadow, indicated by his last name Kagehira), as stated in Eternal Weaving, we can quite easily deduce that Mika is the crescent moon, missing something(his self esteem and his independence; he thinks he is not complete enough to be anything but a doll), but presenting perfect(Shu's perfect doll) on stage, to the "dormant forest" of art-consuming masses.

These lyrics are simply referring to the nightingale's song, wandering the forests during the night, the time when less birds are awake and it is the most prominent. Apparently, the only ones who sing regularly at night are the unpaired male nightingales, thus the nocturnal song might serve to attract a mate. (suspicious, isn't it? HMMM... )

This far it is clear, Shu and Mika are the nightingales. In culture, the nightingale has become not only a symbol of poetry, but also "a master of a superior art that could inspire the human poet". Knowing Valkyrie's purpose, as stated by Shu, is to inspire people and the future artists through its artistic acts, the analogy seems fitting.

The nightingale singing at dawn is assumed to be important in defending the bird's territory. Valkyrie is using the message in their music to preserve the hope and their artistic relevance.

Always loved when Valkyrie uses turns to sing verses and then sing together. Valkyrie is rooted in individuality and miscommunication, but has come together as a homogeneous whole in the end.

Mika and Shu are addressing the audience, how their music brings both the artist and the enjoyer together and opens their minds to new horizons, perceptions.

"Let go of your fears from that terrifying childhood of yours

Inside this defenseless dream"

It can be unclear who Shu is addressing to because both have suffered their great deal of trauma in their early years, Shu being bullied for his affinity for dolls and Mika feeling like he has been abandoned. Either way, it is clear that Valkyrie is their "defenseless dream" which allowed them both to let go of their past fears.

"I who was waiting beside the window

For you to save my light"

Like in the last verse, it matches with both characters. Mika and Shu regard themselves each other's light and savior. Shu has given Mika an ambition to hold to and a reason to not feel abandoned anymore, while Mika has stayed with Shu after Valkyrie's tragedy even in their most miserable times. Though, I have to say I am more inclined to believe this verse is about Shu, since after the tragedy, he has locked himself into his room "waiting beside the window" for someone to save him from his failure.

Valkyrie's rebirth has given Mika and Shu enough strength to heal their emotional wounds. Through their music and passion for Valkyrie, both won't be anytime soon separated. The horizon is the line that separates, but also binds the Earth to the skies, the arts to the people, Valkyrie to its fans, Mika to Shu and Shu to Mika.

Alike the previous chorus, Valkyrie is singing to the audience and to themselves, how their music gives them strength, motivation to live in this vast world, composed of both brightness and darkness, it's multi-coloured.

"This opaque moon dedicated to eternity, burned my fate

As time passes by, all signs of equal rebirth, can be done by a prayer

In this pure morning."

This time, the moon represents the old Valkyrie, opaque — didn't let the light penetrate it —, which was supposed to be eternal but brought ruin, yet also rebirth to Shu's fate as an artist and as a person. Despite having his fate demolished, time mends things and has proven that both Shu and Mika were slowly healing into a better self with the help of their determination, their "prayers". A new morning, a new beginning, is waiting for the rebirth of a healed and even more magnificent Valkyrie.

This time, the chorus is sung like a pre-chorus and separately by Mika and Shu, as if they are reminding each other of the reason they are "nightingales", each other's savior through their song, before merging into one voice and passing down the message to the audience.

Which design would you prefer for Maria in the animated series? I would personally prefer his look of "The Dracula X Chronicles".

Oh god this is a hard one for me because I love both designs.

The pink dress is iconic for several reasons. One is that fact that at the time there wasn't many female leads in horror games during the time of the original Rondo of Blood. And certainly not too many that wore a dress. There were only two I can think of off the top of my head which would be Jennifer from the NES Clock tower game, she wears a skirt, and Maria in this pink number. I really love the frills and the colors to it, and how it shows both that she's a little girl, but also hides the fact that she's a badass. And it looks good with her long hair and indicates that she was dressed for something special when she was taken and matches the other dresses the other women are wearing. And we've seen Sypha fighting in a dress as well.

On the other hand the pink suit works well when it comes to the high action aspect of the show, and gives the tomboy with a feminine feel to it. It relays that she's an action girl and can take care of herself but also that she's girly in her own way, and makes an easier transition to the green outfit she wears in Symphony.

However, the pink dress to the green outfit would show how much she's grown up and has become a full fledged hunter and matured.

It's really hard. I would kind of hope that maybe we start out with the dress and then she changes into the other outfit when it's clear that she might need to wear something less easily pulled at? It would be nice if they both could show up.

I don't know honestly, but which ever they pick I hope that it can convey all of Maria's personality and allows for very lovely animation movements.

Castlevania is back. But in Paris during the French Revolution

Castlevania: Nocturne Review

When Warren Ellis’s Castlevania ended back in 2021, I was sad it ended but if felt like we have a good story and ending for our protagonists and it doesn’t need a sequel. Who wants to see Trevor and Sypha raising a baby anyway?

Then Castlevania Nocturne happened 2 years later. Now created by Clive Bradley instead. It had a lot of similar vibes as its predecessor. But somehow, I still kinda miss Trevor’s banters.

Our new heroes are Richter Belmont and Maria Renard from the Rondo of Blood game but their designs are from the PSP remake Dracula X Chronicles especially Maria’s pink ensemble, while Richter kept his shorter hairstyle from the original.

I like the backstories for a new character, Anette, who was a minor character from the original, into a former slave girl turned revolutionary with the power of earth and steel. Olrox, another character from Symphony of the Night, was changed from a typical vampire to a vampire with Aztec origins from the New World (the first series was set in Europe so mostly vampires then were pale and white with some Asian looking vampires mixed in so the change to Olrox is welcome). We also have a speaker (mage) and a demon forger character and a paladin type character. They add flavor to the story, I’ll just say that heheh.

For the villains, Dracula is no more, stuck in the corridors of hell from last we saw in the origseries. We have vampire/succubus type character. Morrigan and Demitri from Darkstalkers can never char. Then the new big bad is Erzsebet Bathory, a fusion of the historical countess/serial killer and Sekhmet, Egyptian goddess of war. Idk how that works, does vampirism make your bronze skin pale? Idk.

The combat scenes are ok, they’re good. I like how Richter can fuse magic with his whip, that kinda feels like something Nathan Graves from Circle of the Moon does but who cares. Maria retained her powers summoning cute versions of the shijin (Suzaku, Seiryu, Byakko, Genbu) and idk how she learned that, was she secretly Asian? Well the original game is made in Japan, so that’s the reason probably. There isn’t a fight scene that’s epic like from the original series, like that fight of Isaac vs the Magician and Legion, and the fight with Trevor vs Death. Maybe, they’re reserving the epic ones next season? If we have another one heheh.

Also, I audibly gasped after the final scene. That scene alone warrants a next season.

Overall, i liked it. Has a lot of potential.

Fave color combo? Well for color duos probably Pink and black! But for trios then pastel pink, blue and green! Since yk those are my colors <3

Some days after Audie and Rondo faced off against Abominae, the two received word from Isaak that they were ready for the resurrection of Florence. The siblings made their way out to the Tree of Souls, the sun beginning to set as they arrived.

Audie ran straight up to the Delphox. "S-So... Can she be...?"

"Easy, Audie." Isaak raised their paws, their spell book floating in front of them. "I see her soul in the Tree. If I hone in on it, I should be able to pull her soul out and bring her back to life." The Delphox motioned for Audie to step back. "I need some space for this. Please stand back."

Isaak then began chanting in a language that was unknown to Audie and Rondo. Patiently they waited, watching as a strand of energy channeled from the Tree to the small pool of water that always sat near the Tree's trunk. Audie fidgeted nervously as he watched, needing to be calmed by Rondo singing a soothing tune for the Espeon.

As the sun disappeared behind the mountains, Isaak's chanting grew louder as a body began to form in the pool. A body with black fur, pink rings, and white flame-like patterns on their hands and feet.

"Mom!" Audie quietly shouted, nearly escaping from Rondo's hug. But she had to wrangle her older brother back down, reminding him that Isaak needed to concentrate for the spell to work. So once again he sat and fidgeted, nearly bursting into tears at just wanting to see his mother again.

Fifteen agonizingly long minutes would pass before Isaak stepped back from the pool, Florence fully restored and unconscious in the pool of water. Isaak went inside their home, retrieving a blanket and returning to find Audie already at his mother's body.

"Be careful, Audie. She will be weak, you don't want to hurt her." The Delphox handed Audie the blanket. "Here. Use this to cover her up. We wouldn't want you guys getting into trouble for indecency."

Rondo walked up to Isaak, a few tears in her eyes. "Thank you for this. This... Entire ordeal has shaken our family up."

Isaak smiled. "It is the least I can do. I have a lot of attachments to the team. And her death was not fair... Or natural in any way." They turned to see Audie had wrapped Florence in the blanket, and was carrying her. "Audie... I am sorry that you had to do what you did. I have taken the liberty of removing Abominae from the picture. That way an experience like this won't happen again."

Audie smiled, and buried his head into Isaak's chest. "Thank you... I'm... I'm just happy Mom is back..."

Isaak lightly patted the back of Audie's head. "You're welcome. You three take care." The Delphox waved to Audie and Rondo as they walked back home, taking a deep breath and frowning.

"Her recovery is going to be arduous... I can only hope that the Valkyrie's are well prepared..."
