[TCR Episode 9]

had to check if this really was the second to the last episode of this show. because it felt like all hope is lost here, and if hope is gone, is there even anything worth looking forward to?

all those 50+ minutes of Episode 9 were devastating in its entirety. you spent the past eight episodes empathizing with this kid, learning about what broke him, who failed him--all in flashbacks. and at some point, you start thinking, at least it's not happenning to him now. he finally has people on his side and the chance to get the help he needs.

except you're wrong. and this time, you see it actually transpire: how everybody keeps failing him. again. and again. and again.

and you feel sick just thinking about how it must feel to be in his shoes. when everything and everyone has failed you, who would you even turn to for help?

anyway, I'm just very curious now about how they intend to wrap this up by Episode 10, especially how they'd pivot to a triumphant end. or will there even be any kind of triumph for Danny to begin with?

some random notes:

because the focus shifted away a bit from Danny, the other characters got to shine this episode. all A+ performances delivered by Emmy, Amanda, Christopher, Will and Carmen. WHAT. A. BRILLIANT. CAST.

which is why it's pretty disappointing that we only got to explore their characters now. I think the show could've benefited from expanded storylines for all of them (apart from Marlin, maybe). learning more about their backstories would've given us insight not only into their motivations but also into how they see and relate to or why they find it easy/hard to empathize with Danny. it could've also driven the "we're all responsible for each other" message further home.

for example, in that blink-and-you'll-miss-it frame showing Stan's fridge, we got to learn that he's apparently a veteran. which means he might've had PTSD, resulting in his failed marriage and his heavy reliance on alcohol and pills. the question is how does this affect his view of Danny and his condition? or his overall opinion on mental health? I think it's interesting to dive deeper into that.

with that said, I wish there were more episodes to do this. or at the very least, I wish the actual trial started at least 1-2 episodes before.

that montage of Candy, Stan and Danny coupled with Rya's monologue in the background about asking for help is a bit...contrived, ngl. the dialogue is a little...hnngg. although, I think it would've packed more emotional punch if, again, we'd already known and empathized with Candy and Stan a bit more before this episode.

the scene with Rya and Candy in that diner/bar was one of the highlights, imo. it was fucking heartbreaking, I literally had to pause because I was sobbing a little too hard. it was powerful in itself, but I think it got to me on a personal level because I'm also an only child born from a single mother who I'm very close with (much like Candy and Danny were when he was little, at least)

finally, I think talking about Candy's behavior especially what she did at the end should be more nuanced and should be treated with compassion. that is what the show is asking of the viewer, tbh. she was a victim, too. and I hope everyone who watches this episode remembers that.

My homie I have amazing news. In one of Finn's past lives he was a butterfly. Fionna is probably dreaming of one of her past lives. Like yeah I know dream analysis and stuff and the shwo is very deep. But maybe it's just a cute easter egg.

Okay, I was actually totally planning to add a lil thing in the tags of that post that I was like "hmmm or maybe it can also be related to Finn's past life as a butterfly" but then I, like, had a brainfart and forgot about it lol??? I literally don't know what happened there, honestly.

But also, there is a reason I only meant to leave this idea as a little-side-addendum in the tags - because I don't consider it very likely at all right now. First and foremost because, yeah, one of Finn's past life was a butterfly - but that doesn't necessarily mean anything about Fionna.

I mean, we know that the F&C verse sometimes flips around characters' species. For Glob's sake, literally the second-most important character in this universe is a cat whose Mainverse counterpart is a dog! As far as we know, Fionna's past life could've been a maggot or a Kiwi bird!

Also, an important thing to remember here is that Fionna isn't having this dream alone. Cake is ALSO dreaming with her

While it's been kinda implied that Finn and Jake keep reincarnating as best bros throughout their lives and maybe you can extrapolate that would be true of Fionna and Cake as well. But there's nothing in this little visual that could be a 'companion' to the butterfly so I think it's worth asking.... why is Cake dreaming of Fionna's past life as well?

Also, I would buy the idea this was just "Fionna dreaming of her past lives" more if, like, the first episode's title sequence showed her dreaming of a shooting star or a pink slime or a genderswapped version of Shoko or anything else also related to Finn's past lives. But instead what we had was this:

What seems to be a simplified version of the Hotel from her dream sequence at the start of the episode (note the little beach chair on top). I mean, if Finn has a comet I guess Fionna's past life could be a building but... yeah I'm pretty sure that's just the hotel from the dream. It seems like the emerging pattern is Fionna dreaming about a location from the episode at each Ending Title Sequence.

Because the most important thing is that Fionna in the EP2 ending isn't just dreaming of a random butterfly....

That Butterfly is sitting on the MASK WORN BY THE 'EVIL BEAR' FROM THAT SAME EPISODE.

So Fionna is dreaming explicitly of a butterfly flying around in the Heart of Ooo. So if THIS is her past life that actually has far more Lore Implications than if the dream is just symbolic of the series' themes.

And you know, I was just kinda spitballing with that "Zhuang Zhou Dreams of Being a Butterfly" thingy. I still think there's something there especially with Fionna dreaming of Ice King and Ice King dreaming of Fionna but... there's a lot of interesting thematic meanings you can take from the butterfly if you don't insist on refusing to engage with it for silly reasons.

The aforementioned 'Butterfly Effect' concept is one. But you can also look at more general symbolism associated with butterflies. Such as Freedom (which is, when you get down to it, what Fionna is dreaming about more than anything) or Change and Transformation. You know, kinda like how the ending of this episode signified an important Change in the status que of both of our main leads?

And Transformation is a HUGE theme in this particular episode. You know, Simon's struggle of having being transformed into Ice King and now back to Simon again and how much it messed up his sense of identity? Or how his trauma Changed him? Or how he has a hard time coping with the Changes in his life and the world in general?

We'll probably need more than two episodes to really see what the pattern is with the ending titles and thus more reliably speculate on What Could It Mean. But with the information we have, I don't think it was just Fionna dreams of her past life. And even if it is, I think it's silly to totally discard all the thematic possibility of the butterfly. There's a reason why didn't just dream of being a Pink Slime, after all.

JANUARY: i was still on my gaymer boyfriend agenda but i also did the the eclipse but it's a comedy. But my favorite gif out of that month is 100% this:

FEBRUARY: bed friend and my school president was omi-present in this month. I also started more to experiment with adding stuff to my gifs. My favorite out of that month is this one:

MARCH: this was the month of midnight museum and my mike in a boss and a babe gifs. This is where doki doki kali style was born (funny because this is also my birth month..so it's fecking fitting ahjsdhasjkd) so my favorite gif of that month is hands down this:

APRIL: april was the same as march with some bed friend gif sprinkled in. but mostly midnight museum and me making fun of khatha. but for this month i will go with a whole gifset as my favorite. it's my khatha matching the artifacts in every episode gifset.

MAY: in may be my favorite joined the ranks of shows i going to make iconic gifsets for. And i was still doing the mike in our skyy gifsets. I think that was the only time i really was crunching out a gifset like on a specific time. Loved it but also it was very stressful hahaha. My favorite gif of this month is this one:

JUNE: be my favorite was in the main focus in that month but i also squeezes in my pan-coded bl people gifsets (looking back i did all of this while working FULLtime..idk what i was on) My favorite gif out of that one is this:

AUGUST: only friends and dangerous romance mayor things i gifed that month. I also started to do so much extra work for my gifs..like create a whole ass dialog wheel for my only friends gifs hahaha. Only friends really was just so mass effect/dragon age coded that i had to. With some of these decisions these idiots did hahah. My favorite out of that month is:

SEPTEMBER: in september i really got in a low of gifing..you could say i was starting the burn out. (because my mental health finally catched up on me and well...) I only gifed 6 gifsets in that month and my favorite out of all of these gif was this one because it was the easiest to do at that time:

OCTOBER: ohh spooky-tober was a treat, i fell into the kiseki: dear to me hole and i think came up with one of the most fun gifsets i have ever made at this point *playboyy looms over my shoulder*. my favorite out of this month has to be this one

NOVEMBER: November came and brought me playboyy and pitbabe and boy did these show change my brand. A stupid brainfart idea about adding peach emojis on gifs turned into well the fruity bunch and me condition people into thinking about playboyy when they see fruit. i can't really say what was my favorite gif for this month because all of them i love them dearly (even the evil gifset i had to make for @kayatoasted) but to not post yet another version of shell with a fruit penis i am going with this one:

OKAY KIDDOS HAVE THIS OTHER BORDERLANDS SHITPOST BECAUSE

WHILE TRYING TO NOT ZONE TF OUT FOR THE NTH TIME, I REMEMBERED A THING MY BRAIN FARTED THE OTHER DAY (the “other day” is an undefined day between yesterday and the cretacean for me, so I’m sorry I have a shitty memory) AND I NEED TO GET IT OUT IN SOME WAY SO I’M HERE SCREAMING AT THE VOID THAT TUMBLR IS (even if sometimes the void screams back, but it’s random I guess).

AND NO TL;DR BC WE DIE LIKE MEN AND HONESTLY I DUNNO HOW TO SUM UP EVERYTHING SO IDK TRY TO SKIP DOWN AND SEE IF YOU UNDERSTAND WITHOUT ALL MY DIGRESSION, GOOD LUCK.

I’ll be merciful and put everything under the read more so I won’t clog anyone’s dash with this long post.

So, the other day I was cleaning up my computer from some really old crap I transferred when I copied most of the folders of my old laptop. Really old crap, some where like idk early 2000s? My first laptop is from 2007 and I used to transfer stuff from my parents’ pc to it and from it to my late laptop, but I’m digressing...

While cleaning up all the old shit farted by my cringey teenager self or whatever, I remembered a thing that happened around the era when I got that laptop.

So, idk, around 6 or 7 years ago. It could’ve been april 2013 or 2014, but it was april bc I was going to a comicon with my childhood friend and that usually took place in april...

AnYwAy. I remember my friend interrupting our chat to point me a person that was walking to the comicon and we both noticed that looked like...me. It was like looking at the myself from highschool. Same hair and hairstyle, same bodyshape, same type of clothes and colors that I used to wear back then. It was unsettling. But funny too? Y’know like that “how i met your mother” episodes where the gang found their doubles (Lily the stripper, Moustache Marshall, Ted the luchador, those episodes).

BUT ZU, WHAT THE HECK DOES THIS HAVE TO DO WITH BORDERLANDS?

Well, the brainfart I had was consequential to me remembering that and remembering that thing about the existence in the world of other people looking like you, i don’t remember the details but whatever.

The Borderlands-related brainfart is this:

If it’s true that in the world there could be other people looking like you (like in those HIMYM episodes and how I saw someone that looked like me back then at the con) what if something like that exists in the borderlands universe?

And my brain farted the TPS gang in a revised and “doppelgangered”(???) version. Like a sort of idk knock-off copy you get on Wish or Aliexpress.

At first it was only a sort of younger HJ lookalike, with some differences of course but still similar. Then my brainfart made him a group of friends and I completed the TPS gang or almost.

James, 27yr, from Dedalus (bc sounds similar to Tantalus, yes). Looks like a young Jack (soul patch included LOL) but with both eyes blue and with freckles, the personality is a mix between Tim’s and Jack’s ones. College dropout, likes studying but at his own terms. Works random odd jobs. Don’t call him Jimmy or he’ll get very angry. Call him John. John is a perfect name for an adult. Not Jimmy.

William, 34. a sort of young Wilhelm, but with no addiction to robotics and this one used to be in a cliché-y gang of bikers. now he owns a pub in the bad side of their town, in the free time likes to tinker with motorbikes and other stuff...says he’s out of the bad circles, but actually sometimes takes part in some illegal fighting rings to make extra money.

Nancy, 25yr: Nisha. but more cowgirl than shooter, and less violent. Her family owns a big farm not far from the town. James’ ex-girlfriend. She dumped him because idk man I didn’t think that deep.

Lena, 27yr: Athena’s lookalike. used to go to the same highschool as James, but then she joined the army because she wanted to demonstrate smth to her father or idk again i didn’t think too deep in this. or maybe family was all ppl from army so she went. idk. after army times she mets her future wife, Jane (that’s Janey, ofc)

If you want to treat yo self, let’s also add a copy for Timothy and we’ll have Thomas. Looks exactly like James, but has green eyes and the hair have more of a copper hue.

I thought to add a version of claptrap but then I went like “naaah whatever”. if you want one, idk if you want a robot or a noisy person or whatever. an half idea was that was an annoying person, maybe younger than the gang, a kid that tried to tag along with the others (like idk 11 while the others where around 16), that called himself Trapper (or Clap) bc wanted to be some kind of Dubstep DJ. OR DUNNO. whatever.

then uhhhhh my brain farted that they where a sort of group of rebellious kids, they played vault hunters or smth and they used an abandoned building as a base. then one day it got occupied by some squatters/bandits and they had to take it back. William the biker got “recruited” in their group in that time bc they needed someone actually strong and intimidating to smash the intruders away. put here and there some names of rooms of the “base” similar to names of Hyperion-related locations like idk hub of heroism or control core or bunker or whatever my dudes this is all random. and they finally where able to get it back. kept meeting in that place to chill and whatever, stopped when William’s ex-gang used him as a scapegoat (as a revenge for him leaving them) and he got stuck in jail for some years. and then idk there has been uni, Lena decided to go to army, Nancy had to spend more time at the farm after idk mother got sick? idk man. I dunno what kind of studies James could have followed before dropping out, maybe something tech-y to make him more of a HJ lookalike? And the twin, Thomas, I just added him while blabbering this brainfart so idk. Yeah, probably James/John did tech stuff but dropped out bc uni is shit and he wanted to learn when and how he wanted. and so he continued studying by himself while working here and there - that’s how he met again Wil, working at his bar - aaaand uhhhh.... after all the time, the “gang” never had gotten reunited and he decided to leave their planet hoping to get luck in finding a cool job with a nice pay on another planet and RUH-ROH-RAGGY [scooby-doo voice] someone idk who probably idk Atlas or directly VH or Crimson Raiders capture him thinking he’s another body-double that has survived like Timtam?

but James/John never had idea of what the fuck happened over there? like «idk man i am from dedalus, it’s not like the things happening over pandora reached there for more than short thing on the news channel.»

«at uni i had some friends telling me that i looked like a pandoran porn star and they kept calling me “tames pandora” and I was like wtf until during a pizza&movie night they made me watch that and i was like “you know what? you are right but still fuck you”»

AND I THINK THAT’S IT. this is it. i finally got out this crap out of my mind. yay.

Name Game Pt. 2

Yeah I have more thoughts since writing this post.  But also, for now, until I settle on something, I’ve decided to go by Jamie.

(I also meant to post this yesterday on my birthday because that was appropriate, but because I’m me...! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I’m not 100% happy with it, but I do like the sound of it, it does have some resonance to me, and because my parents always called me J, it lets me keep that for anyone who isn’t sure what to call me, or wants to address me in spaces where I’m not out.

And the rest, I shall slap under Ye Olde Cutte...

I DO have a shortlist of names I like;

Jamie Nicole Caitlin Zoe

I’m sure there are others, but I am brainfarting right now.

AND HA HA!  I actually remembered!  There IS a female name associated with healers!  And get this, it’s Brigid!  So if I went with that, A) I get to keep the same associations with my old name, 2) it’s largely Irish, and C) She is also associated with fire!  That name popped into my head and reminded me of the associations two days after my first post, of course.

So that sounds like a pretty perfect name, but I’m not sure if it ‘sounds’ right to me/for me, or if that’s just ‘need time to get used to it’ weirdness.

I’m gonna stick with Jamie for the time being though, because I don’t want to get too annoying with “And TODAY my name is...!” plus to just give things a good trial period.

Also, and I admit this is silly, I am really invested in Killer Frost this season on the Flash, as she is on a quest to find her own identity, find out who she is now that she is becoming an actual person, and part of that is picking an actual name for herself besides “Killer”.  So I kindasorta wanna wait to see what she picks, and if I like it. ;)  But since that plot thread got dropped HARD and hasn’t been mentioned in almost eight episodes (Okay fine, Crisis, but c’mon) and they’ve all just been calling her “Frost” it might be a non issue.

Also also, there’s a trans kid showing up in X-Factor’s relaunch whom I am also really curious to learn more about.

Also also also, just because she’s coming out at the same time, I am interested to see what this new female Cyclops inspired character’s name is.

Like I said, those are all mostly silly curiosities (Although I am more serious about KF) that I just wanna see what happens there, more than anything else.  If I’m in a holding pattern and see stuff coming, might as well take a peek.

But for now, Jamie is a good placeholder, so yeah, hi, I’m Jamie.

Possible zhan tiri brainfart I had

Ok, so I know you all don’t know me, but you will soon.

For I, Elis, have a theory that will BLOW YOUR MIND.

Ok, so as you know, Zhan Tiri is being voiced by Tara Fitzgerald what’s-her-name, And well,, boy, do I have some thoughts for you.

The letter etc will be resolved in this theory, I promise you this.

I saw a photo a while back of somebody mentioning that they hadn’t mentioned zhan tiri in awhile, so here.

First, I’ll start off with this-

Varian’s mother is nowhere to be seen. Meanwhile, where’s zhan tiri? Probably roaming somewhere.

Take into account zhan tiri could, no, MUST shapeshift into anything they pleased as long as it was of the female gender, and it’d make sense.

Now, why am I talking about varian’s mother?

Boy, do I have some news for you.

There was no mention of varian’s mother in any of the seasons thus far, even by Quirin himself, and the oath Quirin swore to the brotherhood was likely “I will not tell anybody what my wife actually is.”

Like, say if all members, before joining, had to say SOMETHING, anything that should and MUST be kept a secret.

The letter probably included something along these lines...

“Son.

I am so proud of you, and this is why I am telling you this. You are nothing like the eternal beast your mother thought you would be, a cross between a legend and a human... she thought you wouldn’t live past aged 10. Look at you now! You’ve grown so much. I’m so sorry I couldn’t give you more time to talk to me. Please, listen to me. Read this and keep it in mind for eternity.

Your mother is zhan tiri. I know it’s shocking,, but.. she, she was nice. She was really nice and visibly wanted a child. I agreed, but I took in the complications of you being magical, so I eventfully brought you up in a ‘no-magic’ household when she took her leave. I am so sorry for having to lie to you all this time, but please, it was for your protection.”

Now, where am I going with this? Well, we’ve seen the hair stripe was natural as it didn’t fade while varian was imprisoned or focusing on when he was trying to free Quirin, it didn’t even fade when he fell into the river in season 3 episode 4 (I think?) So eventfully, we’ll call it natural.

Also, in the portrait, you can see the blue strand. Turn your brightness up to see this one.

ALSO ALSO, I found a LITTLE tiny something that proves he is SOMEWHAT MAGICAL.

Question-

Why didn’t varian faint, become woozy or tired when Rapunzel sung the song?

Add 2+2, you get, not 4, wait for it,

MAGIC!

Duh, it makes sense! Unlike ALLL, and I’m talking about ALLLLLLL of the other characters, he didn’t even stumble, and when Cassandra got burnt, it went through the gloves, because it’s practically the heat of 1/10000 of a sun, which is still VERY hot, which would very obviously burn her. But why not varian? It’s rather simple, and I’m truly honestly set on this ideology, and no, I’m not going to falter from my theorising since, well, varian IS OBVIOUSLY magical, so.... yeah! I don’t really need to explain any more, I originally had a brainfart on discord about this and decided to post this, so cìao!

EDIT: Ok, so I just had ANOTHER brain fart, what if, instead of being generated by zhan tiri, the storm was generated by varian’s worry and rage about his father? The storm did worsen as his voice got more powerful in the song, and when he got thrown out it got even stronger! So what if,, wait for it, varian has the ability to generate a storm on the level of ZHAN TIRI THEMSELF? it’d be interesting ngl also also, if it’s based on emotions, that means that the moonstone with cass was actually foreshadowing! Like, if he’s happy, he’s happy, but if he’s TRULY, HONESTLY FEELING NEGATIVE THOUGHTS about something, a storm will brew.

EDIT X2: Adding onto before, I personally believe that varian was actually repelling and reflecting the sundrop’s ability of healing back at Rapunzel. She hasn’t tried it on anybody else, right? So, I think that she still has the ability to- going by recent going over the episodes again and again, varian wasn’t her target, but was in close proximity to her and still didn’t faint. The reason he didn’t block it, however, was simply because, he wasn’t the target. The Amber was. I believe that the reverse incantation releases toxins into the air that make it hard to stand up and breathe, and wears you out, like we’ve seen in previous episodes. Now, I know it’s a bit early to be making theories when we’ve only just gotten him back, but think about the implications! She didn’t wrap her hair directly around him like she did in ‘what the hair?!’ , instead it was all around, which is the exact same when she did the incantation in previous episodes and people were still worn out. This is solely what I believe confirms my theory, but I will add to it if I must. If you like the theory and would love to hear more, consider following and reblogging this post! Now I know I might sound daft, I tend to build theories upon theories instead of theories upon multiple theories and conjoin them like a lot of other theorists do. In destinies collide part 2, ranpunzel’s hair shone like it does when we see the healing inchantation. This is probably a very small sign that she can still preform it, but it did not work on varian due to him being, well, decedant of zhan tiri. Thank you for coming to my ted talk.

The Friday prompt for this week’s @2019grimoirecchallenge deals with replenishing energy and, I’ve been chewing over how to write this post all week... mostly because I can’t find a lot of good literature on the topic, just a lot of “How to Get Rid of Energy Vampries” articles and stuff tied to the actual vampire subculture, which I really don’t want to attempt to speak for. That said, I’m going to wing it.

So first off, what IS an energy vampire? Simply put, it’s someone who feeds off the energy (be it psychic, emotional, sexual, etc. etc.) of others. People who are energy vampires do this for a number of reasons, a lot of the things you’ll see are about people who unconsciously do so. There might be some manner of mental or physical health issue that causes them to sort of latch on to other people’s energy. They might just be low-energy naturally. It might be something that is a passing phase in someone’s life. Others might do it intentionally, whether that be for malicious intent, because they have a consensual relationship with whomever they’re sharing energy with, because they are part of the aforementioned vampire subculture... The reasoning can be sort of endless.

How do you know that you ARE an energy vampire? Well, let me put it this way. Do you feel lethargic and low energy when not around other people? Do you catch yourself coming back to yourself, your experiences, your problems, etc. while talking to people, or have others pointed out that you tend to do this? Do people around you seem irritated, tired, on edge, etc. after you’ve spent time with them but you feel fantastic? Do you often feel kinda ‘blah’ and empty for long periods of time, but spend a few hours somewhere crowded or in a natural place with a lot of energy, and you suddenly have new life? Do you get restless to go places, just to be around other people, whether you’re interacting with them or not? Do you get caught in these self-victimizing, “woe is me” thought patterns? Then, chances are you might have some psychic vampire tendencies.

This can also be something brought about by psychic burnout. Symptoms vary, but can result in: migraines, light sensitivity, body aches, disorientation, etc. And I’m not talking about just the few hours after a particularly large working, I’m speaking something that lasts days.

Okay, so maybe I’m an energy vampire, what do? First of all, don’t panic over it. I’ve seen, in scrolling the internet trying to write this piece, seen some meditations that try to “cure” energy vampirism, telling you that you’re “awful for being a drain on your friends and family, and that you should just...stop doing that damn it.” And it just feels... toxic (which feels ironic given some of the super “love and light” fluffy websites I found these on, but I digress). SO, I’m going to try to give some helpful advice...

Regarding “recharging” because you can’t solve the issue while you’re feeling low/crappy: So. I absolutely do not advocate just taking energy from people without asking. If you’re going to share energy with someone (via whatever method you choose: physical touch, visualization, intimacy, charging an object and using said object, whatever) always always always ask first. Things I’ve noticed that have helped me personally are: holding crystals that have been charging on my altar (or lighting a candle and spending time in front of my altar reaching out to my gods for that matter), going out and connecting with a tree or other part of nature, or getting out of the house or whatever scenery you’ve been in and getting something to eat somewhere. 

In the first few instances, you’re recharging with pools of energy that have developed because of your constant use of the spaces and the energy/spirits that you contact there. Obviously, harms no one, yeah? Going somewhere out in nature also doesn’t drain other people though you should still ask trees and plants before you just go taking energy from them too. But they’re a lot more... sturdy than other people, usually, and I think this is a pretty low-impact way to recharge. You might even draw upon energy from the sun or moon too. 

Now, going and getting food and eating somewhere where other people around allows you, for one, to get some nutrients in your body, increase your blood sugar, and such; but also allows you to sort of tap into what is usually referred to as “ambient energy,” that is, the energy of lots of people bustling about and going about their business. This is not drawing upon the energy of the people around you, but rather the energy of the PLACE you are in that is generated by their presence. This is important, because just drawing on other people you don’t know is shady and immoral. 

My method for dealing with ambient energy is usually to find somewhere comfy to sit- if it’s by a window so I can soak up some sunlight energy all the better. I take a deep breath, maybe a couple bites of whatever delicious thing I’ve gotten, and then ground and center as best as I’m able. Then I focus on the energy of the place: is it buzzy and like TV static? Like waves that seem to ebb and flow? Then, kind of like I visualize energy from the earth or the sun flowing into my own during grounding and centering, I visualize whatever energy is around me doing the same until I feel like I at least have enough spoons to carry on with my day.

SLEEP is also something that helps a lot with this. After doing something that will help raise your energy a bit, nap if you can, because the body and your energy does replenish after sleep.

BUT, I’m not gonna stop there and I’m gonna give ya advice for not being the stereotypical psychic vampire. So, the biggest thing I think is to get to a place where you’re not feeling bogged down and energetically low yourself first. It’s a lot easier to get going on the rest of this work when you’re not running on E. 

After that, though, I really want to emphasize taking time to identify what triggers this behavior in yourself. For me, it seems to flare up in times of stress, and is usually hand in hand with my depression episodes. I am cognizant of this, and can work to minimize the things that trigger the stress and anxiety. In my life, this has meant more careful planning, making sure I’m communicating my plans and feelings to the people I’m around so that if/when things go wrong I either have a plan B, or I’m not blindsided by it -which makes me less anxious; ya see where I’m going here? A big thing for me was also learning to drive, which makes me anxious, but makes me less reliant on other people, and will give me more freedom and control over my life in the long-term.

Another thing you’ll want to do (and this takes time but as long as you make an effort, I think that counts for something) is try to be aware of how you speak to other people and really listen to them if they tell you you’re being negative / toxic. Sometimes, my humor comes across as flippant and harsh. Sometimes I chuckle about a brainfart and then am compelled to correct them which can be hurtful and grating. I, like many, hear someone’s story, and will often jump in with my own example from my life. But by trying to take time and JUST listen to people’s stories, and stopping myself from adding my anecdote, or apologizing when I realize that I’ve come off as mean and judgmental, I work towards being less of a psychic vampire to the people I’m in contact with. Exercises in mindfulness and positive thinking can really work wonders in this case.

And finally, take care of your health! Go to see a therapist if you’re able. Make sure you’re taking care of your hygiene. Eat things that are healthy and nutritious. Keep your living environment clean. You would be surprised how much those things help!

So! That’s my little spiel. I am hoping this can help people who realize they’re draining to others recharge and maybe work towards becoming... less draining/drained themselves. And I’m hoping it’s less... cringe inducing than some of the other things floating around.

MORE Sex, Love and Robots. A Darling in the Franx Analysis Part 2

Now we wanna clarify an interesting detail that we spotted in our Part 1 post. For those who haven’t read Part 1 yet you can click on right here to catch up with us in this crazy train of thought and discussion.

We all know the city is just underneath the surface level of the dome and not literally, but it’s still funny to see this trope still fairly common, alive and still giving people brainfarts.

“wait but..underground? But doesn’t it move? But it’s in the dome? Skyscrapers?Bu...buuwat.”

Last time we left off we were talking about Zero Two and her interactions with Hiro. We can tell you from the get go that Hiro isn’t as much of a solid character as Zero Two is, which is kinda very disappointing, and you’ll see this with other characters that haven’t gone through proper development (yet).

We are introduced to Hiro as he pounders on his inability to pilot EVAs a Franxx with his partner Naomi and getting a boner. This isn’t some teenage angst, this is literally a boy thinking about how his limitations are affecting his teammates and his life purpose, and without being able to fulfill it and not having any other reason to live logically, he falls into a deep depression and describes himself as a Jian bird; a Chinese mythological bird that has one eye and one wing. Due to this condition the birds have to find pairs that they largely depend on to fly, kinda like how 2 pilots are necessary to ride a Franxx and successfully “fly”. 

-”2 birds that make 1...Doesn’t it remind you of something else?

HECK YES WE DID. With the power of love.”

When he was a child though, he was considered a prodigy as he would be quick to question his controlled environment, scored high on the tests he was given and gave the children in his plantation individualities by giving them proper names made with their number codes. When he meets Zero Two and has a wider look at what the “Cage” really is, he decides to escape with her but ultimately fails at the attempt and gets his memory wiped clean, turning him into the empty shell of depression we get at the beginning. What we disliked about Hiro is the fact that his personality ends here, at least as a stand alone character. His interactions with Zero Two gives us a peak on how desperate he is to fulfill his duty as a parasite and help out his squad, even sacrificing his life for it and causing him to make life threatening decisions. What snaps him out of this toxic conduct however, is how much not only Zero Two relies on him but how his whole team needs him and how he can’t afford to die if someone genuinely needs him, which is the first time he’s ever felt that as he had been a constant failure. All in all what makes Hiro an interesting character is simply the relationship he harbours with Zero Two so far.

The next character on the list would be Ichigo... we say this as we feel the death stares from the thousands of Ichigo haters that made a scandal over episode 14, waiting for us to say something negative about her or completely trash her as a character. Sadly, for those of you who fit the description, we won’t be doing that because 1) This is a serious and objective (as objective as we can get) analysis where, if we need to trash someone, it’s because they really don’t make sense and are not considered people; just trash because 2) She is not a bad character and specially not a terrible person.  

We know what you’re thinking; Ichigo DOES let her flaws get the best of her. She’s an anxious, selfish wreck that takes advantage of Goro and Hiro on an emotional level, tends to meddle in other people’s choices, sometimes putting her interests and feelings before anything even at the cost of everyone’s well being and is generally not honest to her squad, or even to herself, about her personal motivations. She constantly tries to get Zero Two removed from the squad even though Zero Two is the only pistil that Hiro can ride with, as well as the fact that her presence greatly increased the team's battle effectiveness and her perfectionism makes her stress over any and every mistake which has interrupted the flow of important missions, leading to moments like this:

...And it makes sense.

But while we list these characteristics and your hatred towards her does not change, we also want to clarify 2 points that reveal major details about her:

Firstly, she’s the leader of Squad 13 and the responsibility of hiding her own feelings to prioritize certain agendas causes all this inner stress, anxiety and perfectionism in the first place, as she has to carry the dead weight of commanding on her back at such a young age. This also explains why she’s generally not honest and usually has her panic attacks inside the Franxx, where only Goro can see her, who effectively knows how to calm her down and acts as a positive influence in her decisions as both are mature and quick to share their true feelings and opinions with each other, making their relationship relatively more healthy than any of the others on the team.

Secondly,  you know who else has a hard time making decisions between harming the people they loves and harming herself? Who also is selfish and sometimes puts their objectives before others and ends up hurting everyone on the way?

That’s right

Zero Two.

...Jokes and fanon aside, it’s also this girl:

You know who else? Real, normal people. So trashing her for her reactions is a lil toooo much. It becomes justified later on since Zero Two almost willingly killed Hiro before she eventually came to her senses and treats him like a tool. We need to remember that Hiro has been Ichigo’s friend and crush for probably most of her life, as well as one of the only remaining friends she has; imagine you are in her situation and you are seeing someone you are clearly in love with self-destruct over an addiction they have, you just want them to notice how much of a better partner they would be if only they’d give you a chance….That, hit a very hard key for us on a very deep emotional level and you can’t help but hear this song in the background once you think about it. Hiro and Zero Two had harboured an abusive relationship no matter how rose colored you want to paint it.

Speaking of Ichigo and relationships, we stated that her interactions with Goro were very mature, communicative and understanding. Ichigo, while not openly admitting it, likes to ride with Goro as she feels at ease with him and they complement each other perfectly; she as a leader has to take stone cold decisions that might seem cruel, but behind the scenes this genuinely wears her out emotionally. He is the emotional assistance that looks after everyone’s well being and works as a strong pillar of trust for her when she’s weak. Since the start, Goro is shown always worried about the others and gives as much support as he can, so much that he was fine with Ichigo doing a test-ride with Hiro and despite being in love with her, he is just fine if she just sees him as a partner. His flaw is essentially the fact that he is so giving and selfless, to the point where loyalty between his 2 best friends Ichigo and Hiro starts to become emotional baggage as he realizes he is in love with Ichigo, while the latter is head over heels for Hiro. We also HAVE to comment on how beautifully the love triangle was resolved: Goro decides to confess to Ichigo regardless, and is relieved in realizing that he loves both of them equally and values their individual choices, which was just SO sweet that once the episode ended our tears were just cubes of sugar.

Goro is the true MVP.

Moving onto our next set of characters, we’ll be talking about Mitsuru and Ikuno.

Mitsuru was a very interesting character for us and getting to understand him was one of our favorite parts. He is introduced as that one arrogant friend in our group that is an unlikable pile of steaming hot pride with a stick up his butt (more or less like Zorome as they both constantly bashed on Hiro for his “inferiority”) that likes to think highly of himself, disregards his partner entirely and blames all his failures on the people around him.

*sips milk* *stares down at plebs*

As the episodes progress however, we realize that as a child, Mitsuru was fragile and he was deemed not apt to pilot a Franxx for his condition. This stresses him out as he was a great admirer of the prodigious child that was Hiro, and since his dream was to pilot alongside him, he had to push himself into taking the lethal Elixir Injection, that has a 15% survival rate, and came out miraculously alive, only to be greeted with a now empty shell of the former Hiro who had long forgotten about the promise they both made to each other after the memory wipe. This devastates Mitsuru and he grows into the lil sour boy we see in the series; never wanting to be looked down upon for his weakness and hides this by being a snob, unable to trust anyone but himself to do the job right. We also get that because of his fragility and how strongly his self loathing weighs on him and it makes him constantly gamble on his own health and safety to obtain power. He knew the Elixir Injection had the slimmest chances of survival, yet he took the risk. He knew Zero Two was the infamous “Partner Killer”, yet he rode with her and took the risk, in a desperate attempt to amplify his self worth and prove that he was a match for his now fallen idol. Then again, we all knew how well THAT went for him:

We found that scene complementary in general but what we disliked was how it had a lack of build up to it, making it feel rushed and completely out of the blue. It’s only later on when we truly understand why these events took place, but it had the potential to be presented in a more... Fitting and understandable manner.

While he and Ikuno are not particularly fond of each other, they have similar backstories to their ways of being and mannerisms, making them easily communicate with simple glares, nods and small talk while also acting as professional as possible. Ikuno wanted to be able to pilot a Franxx with Ichigo while Mitsuru also wished for the same thing with Hiro. For different reasons however, that didn't happen, and it left them crushed. Ikuno so far has not gotten proper character development, at least not as much as Mitsuru and the rest of the people we’ve mentioned so far, which we would just LOVE to see later in the series as she has soooo much untapped potential to dive into. We know that she’s a very reclusive, quiet and literate girl partially due to her orientation and how hostile her environment is towards such thing. In order to fit in and fulfill her duty as a parasite, she is forced to pilot alongside a stamen. While we know we should only focus on the Anime since this is a review of the Anime and not the Manga, we feel that the Manga had added an extra depth to her much earlier into the series:

The reason she “suddenly” couldn’t connect to Mitsuru before he decides to pilot with 02, was because she was given a pep talk by Ichigo before that same mission, distracting her, unable to sync up.

Then she realizes she needs to fix this problem to avoid being a burden for the team, so her resolve of coping with these conflicting feelings she was having was to do this:

This was not explicitly presented in the Anime, but in the Manga they explain that the only way she can possibly connect to Mitsuru is while fantasizing about Ichigo, which adds a little more depth to how real and relatable she can be as a character, as they display an actual coping method people use to escape their undesired current relationships, in contrast to her blandness so far in the Anime, where she only occasionally appears and conveniently disappears into the background like a satellite.

Their unstable relationship will end with the partner switch that was being foreshadowed with anticipation, thus we will be covering Kokoro and Futoshi... In paaaaaaaart 3! Since this is an ongoing series, episodes 14-24 will be discussed on the series finale so we can pour in more thought and time into it. Can i rely on this blog to have Bepanah (that's the spelling that the channel uses) updates? But anyway could you mention what tags you will use for the show, just in case? Among the recent lot, this show seems nice; let's see.

Lol anon, you shouldn’t rely on me or this blog for ANYTHING. I sometimes watch and lb, sometimes have no energy for lb-ing while watching, and sometimes have no energy to watch at allllllll. Plus, my method is more reactions to what’s happening onscreen + random brainfarts than traditional informational updates in lieu of watching the show. My posts are very much meant to be read during/after watching the episode yourself. So, choose wisely; I wouldn’t put your tellywood eggs in this basket if I were you.

Liv Question

Only because this season is making me forget what I used to know about SVU, and Genes is making me think about Liv.

I clearly remember Amaro finding out about Liv's conception/lineage, and that’s always been one of my favorite moments between them. I loved how understated it was, and how he reacted, and how she walked away. But Amaro is gone now, so he can’t offer any input on the “born to be a rapist” theory, he can’t reassure Liv.

Who else knows? I assume Fin does, from back in the early seasons, but he’s not in the episode either, lol.

So, who else?

Does Barba know? Did it come up during Noah’s adoption (Noah being Johnny D’s biological son, of course)? How about Amanda? I’m fairly certain Sonny has no idea. I can’t actually remember any of them finding out, but S15 is pretty hazy for me, so maybe that’s why I’m blanking?

Anyway, is it possible we’ll have an entire episode about the “rape gene” and none of the other characters will know how it relates to Liv? Is it possible only the audience will know and appreciate the context? Is it possible I’m having a brainfart, and all the other characters know?

Might Liv have to reveal her backstory, all over again? Repeating an old storyline, because coming up with new ideas is overrated? Might that be a good thing? Might we see the reactions of the other characters, as they find out the truth? Might we see them supporting their leader with compassion, or is that just wishful thinking?

Wait, as I was about to post this, I saw Julie Martin posting on twitter about Liv’s therapist being back (the awesome Bill Irwin) in this episode, in what seems like another last-minute reshoot.

So, I’m guessing Liv will work the case as normal, and keep everything to herself, and she’ll only open up to her therapist in the final two minutes of the show. Because who needs a great scene which would strengthen the squad, and showcase her relationship with the others? A moment which would show she trusts them? Sigh.

(I do hope the show proves me wrong, by the way. If anything, she could - and should - talk to Barba.)

While I see others in the Tinfoil Hat Society are using The Abominable Bride and The Geek Interpreter as decoder rings for this episode, I've been inspired to go even bolder and more daring. To understand The Final Problem, I will use... The Final Problem.

What? you say. But they already adapted this story, and this episode is TFP in name only. Or is it? Think about it, why is this titled exactly like the canon story? When have they ever used an exact title like that? The Great Game comes to mind, but that was about the meta game within the reading of the stories. So what if this is a meta game? What if they kill the show instead of the character? What if this is their answer to Doyle's final problem?

We've talked about Doyle not being able to tell the story he wanted to, and killing his character off in frustration. But the public weren't satisfied. And they're not now either, because what the hell? This is what we waited years for? Not just johnlockers but casuals as well.

We know it's "gay or trash" but the general public still doesn't/didn't. They needed to see how bad it is when the real story isn't told. It is important to remember that we're an unexpected casualty, too clever for our own good. Too well versed in queer subtext from our hunger for representation. If we hadn't seen the conspiracy, we wouldn't be devastated, only flabbergasted like the rest of the world. This is when we become martyres in the war. It's not right, and it's not okay, but it is what it is. Me writing this is not a way of excusing what they've done, but rather explaining it. Don't read further if your heart can't take any kind of hope or faith right now. Take care of yourself first, you don't have to jump into the rabbithole with me. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong, and I can dealwith that. This is I think the essence of tinfoiling at this point.

So if I'm Charles in the mail room, then the title is my Pepe Silvia. Barney, who got me looking into Pepe, is Eurus Holmes. I already mentioned in this post here, that Eurus is the modern equivalence of what Doyle did with Moriarty. It's hard to wrap our minds around, because a hundred years of pop culture has firmly established Moriarty as Holmes' great foe. But if you reread The Final Problem, and keep in mind that the character was invented for this story, it all starts to sounds eerily familiar.

"You have probably never heard of Professor Moriarty?" said he. "Never." "Aye, there's the genius and the wonder of the thing!" he cried. -snip-

"What has he done, then?" "His career has been an extraordinary one. He is a man of good birth and excellent education, endowed by nature with a phenomenal mathematical faculty. -snip- But the man had hereditary tendencies of the most diabolical kind. A criminal strain ran in his blood, which. instead of being modified, was increased and rendered infinitely more dangerous by his extraordinary mental powers. -snip-"

"As you are aware, Watson, there is no who knows the higher criminal world of London so well as I do. For years past I have continually been conscious of some power behind the malefactor, some deep organising power which forever stands in the way of the law, and throws its shield over the wrong doer."

Never before mentioned character suddenly has been in the background all along? They're the greatest brain Holmes ever encountered? They're just evil for evil's sake? It should also be pointed out that the idea of a criminal mastermind running their own criminal empire undetected by the poice was a ridiculous notion at the time. Now it's so commonplace in both reality and fiction, we don't bat an eyelash at it. What we would find ridiculous is everything about Eurus. She's Moriarty in this scenario.

It doesn't end with Eurus. There's several details like Watson conveniently being alone at the time because his wife/daughter is away with friends, Sherlock disguising himself/the show (because it's the show not the character being killed in this version), a convenient posthumous message. The convenient posthumous message, which was left by a character that a later installment showed not to be dead (Mary and/or Moriarty). The tone of it, the slight absurdity that Moriarty would just go "oh sure write a message, I'll wait here". (Especially when the message includes instructions for the downfall of what is left of Moriarty's criminal empire, and this supergreat mind didn't think that might happen?) Compare this to both Moriarty's and Mary's clipshows, they're also laced with absurd convenience.

This reading of "The Final Problem"ing the show indicates self sabotage, which goes both with the reading that they were denied by BBC to tell the story they wanted and with the idea of a secret episode yet to come. My money is on the latter for one reason:

We joke about how she must not have seen Orphan Six if she attributes this quote to Siân Brooke's performance. But I'm more interested in the pronoun problem, because it's hard to argue that that was any real group effort. If "we" pull off what? Honestly, canon Johnlock didn't ever fully sit right with me as an explanation either. Because why would that still be a question of "if we pull it off" if the film is in the can? You know what would be groundbreaking television history, that requires a lot of luck and hard work to still "pull off"? A secret episode that no one out of the loop would know about. That's something that could go wrong, be discovered before its time of revelation.

I want to point out that this still doesn't necessarily mean johnlock is going to be canon in this secret episode, and that this means we weren't queerbaited. I think it's possible that johnlock happens, but it's not absolutely tied into this reading, since the point is that it's a secret episode being groundbreaking.

You can say that I am in denial or bargaining here, maybe you are right. What I think is that this episode doesn'tmake sense unless it's deliberately bad with the canon story as inspiration. And that I am just looking for a logical explanation that satisfies if not all the facts, then at least more than "they're just bad writers which we didn't see before because accidentally good stuff" does. 

Because take johnlock entirely out of the equation, say we just saw unintentional subtext. And this episode still doesn't make sense. It's still too poorly written, badly executed, and nonsensical. Especially in comparison to previous episodes, whether you saw johnlock in them or not. At some point, it has to be deliberate. Too many odd details and plotholes, that no one picked up on? Simply because the writers had big egos being fed on by the mass appeal of the show? I guess that is an explanation, it's definitively possible. But it doesn't feel like it satisfies all of the facts.

Anyway, it was fun to write a longer meta (if still not on par with others' work) at least once for this show. It’s not good, I could probably go into more detail. But I just wanted to get this brainfart out there, you know?
