With the hockey fic finally finished and not looking over my shoulder anymore, I’ve been putting my efforts into my COBB fic and my “for fun” fic. Thank you @aristocratic-otter for betaing my for fun fic. I’ve looked forward to your feedback and it’s motivated me to write.

Having said all that, who’s ready for a little angsty Snobaz knight action?

“Lady Wellbelove, could I be so bold to ask for a token to give me luck today?” Baz asks Lady Wellbelove with a flirty smile.

To my surprise, she not only responds, but looks mildly interested in Baz’s request. A spark of jealousy ignites in my chest and my mind is screaming “why him?!”.

“Do you rely on luck, my Lord? Or skill?” She asks with a coy smile of her own.

“Both. As most men do,” he says.

“You don’t need luck if you have the skill,” I interrupt.

And we’ll stop there as it gets a bit spoilery after that.

hey, what's up— *record scratch* *freeze frame* yep, that's me. posting a wipsday for the first time in months. you're probably wondering how i ended up in this situation.

lmfao no but yeah ngl i've mostly just been chilling on my own a lot lately. like, don't get me wrong. i love winter. but i would love it a whole lot more if it didn't marinate me in darkness sixteen hours a day, yk?

n e way i posted the first chapter of Without Sun a few days ago after having it sit completed in my drafts for over six months, and i already have the next 10k words written but it's still in shambles, i've gotta cut this whole chunk out the middle and rewrite it from scratch bc the pacing is off and i'm trying to do something really specific with Agatha in this chapter that i dunno if i'll be able to pull off—

and so i've opted to completely ignore it to inaccurately draw this scene from the first chapter instead. happy wednesday!

Hi everyone! I’m climbing out of my cave and scheduling this in advance to spread the good word about vampire angst. Because, as anyone who’s read my blog title knows, I am a fiend for vampire angst, and there is some cracking vampire angst in this fandom.

Here's a selection of fics that dive into the tasty vampire stuff, especially ones that come with a serving of ‘this sucks actually’. I love all of these, but I’m sure I’ve forgotten or missed other great fics, so please feel free to reblog with your own recs!

The Eternal Life of Baz Pitch by @monbons

I am asking you all, please, hop on board and join me in reading along with this WIP. Monbons has a wonderful writing style; well-paced and impactful. She’s made some inspired choices in this AU. Angsty, clever, and so, so engrossing. Tasty angst so far, and we still have many chapters to go!

Lamb is a character who really fascinates me. This ficlet imagines a conversation Baz and Lamb would have if Lamb discovered Baz was a mage under less bloody circumstance. This short and sweet fic is something of a hidden gem, and I’ll cry forever that this is a 600 word fic, not a 60k one.

Crowding out the Bad (with Good) by twigs_in_my_hair

Another WIP, and if you are a fan of lore, this is one for you. This AU involves Simon trying to improve his diet with the help of nutritionist (and reluctant vampire) Baz. Twigs devotes so much to exploring Baz’s feelings about his vampirism, and how it has left marks on his life, behaviour, etc. And, of course, there's a lovely bit of slow burn Snowbaz along the way!

Joy and Trust by @bookish-bogwitch

Bogwitch constantly surprises and impresses me with her range. This short (400 words), sweet and heartbreaking ficlet sees Baz receiving a Visiting during the events of Carry On. I love it so much.

Proof of Life by @roomwithanopenfire

What if Natasha Pitch survived the vampire attack, but Baz still got Turned? What would that mean for Baz and the World of Mages? In this WIP, it means a Baz who is even more angsty about being a vampire than he already is in canon—and with good reason. Added bonus is the consideration for the wider canon divergence. What would Watford be like if Natasha is still headmistress but Davy is the Mage? Very intriguing fic so far, especially now we’ve landed in eighth year!

This is where it ends by LakeWitch

The least Baz-focused on the bunch, this fic is about the Mage taking Old Family children prisoner for leverage and the aftermath. It sees Baz hit his lowest point (gave me the big good sads), and then follows how he and Simon recover from all they’ve been through. Love it.

Good morning and thanks for the tag @thewholelemon, I'm living for your quippy V!Baz narration. Since I was already here procrastinating the procrastination ask post, I figured I might as well not procrastinate this post. So, some more from the upcoming Ch 5 of Hiding Out in the Open, for which I have my full POV-by-POV zero draft of done (P.S. thanks for that term @valeffelees it perfectly encompasses my process).

The question hangs in the air, and I wonder if I’ve got it wrong. If I were the old me, I’d just take the plunge. Take what I want. Steal the kiss. But I’m not, and the me I am now is terrified. Not because I might be gay. (Or whatever this would mean I am.) Not of kissing a boy. Of kissing Baz. And fucking this all up, this thing between us. The part of it that’s working.  The part of it that feels like the only thing keeping me alive.

Happy Wednesday! I’m on spring break and blissfully alone at a cafe writing for a few hours this morning. The weather is just starting to turn nice (though its supposed to rain tomorrow) but I can feel spring coming properly, which makes me happy. I hope y’all are getting some nicer weather soon, too.

I’m plugging away on my new WIP. I previously mentioned I’m tentatively titling it Back and Back and Back. I also quite like Start at the End, though I’m not sure if that description will end up strictly accurate, so might not work. We shall see.

I’m going to go ahead and share the premise now (or rather, the inspiration) because why not? I was reading through @carryonprompts and found this one and quite liked the idea. I started daydreaming about it in earnest right away. This was the first thing I wrote:

BAZ age 6, 2003

When I get home from school, Vera always makes me a snack. After that, I’m supposed to do my homework before I’m allowed to go outside and play. There’s always pages and pages of it, and it’s horrid, because it’s so easy, it makes me want to rip it to pieces, or hide it under my bed. And if I have to read one more book about Dick and Jane, I think I might scream. (I’ve read every one of the books in my Beatrix Potter collections. Doesn’t my teacher know that if I can read words like presently, I shouldn’t need to read these baby primers?)

Even though I could do this stuff in my sleep, it’s going to have to wait because today he is here.

Or at least, I think he is. I only saw a flash of red out beyond the trees, but that’s as good a sign as any. I don’t want to make him wait, because I don’t know how long he’ll have to visit today, so I have to plan my escape quite quickly.

I don’t imagine this holding too closely to the book/movie. I’m taking inspiration from parts I liked (and can remember 15 years later lol) but shaping this to be a Watford-era, canon divergent fic with some time traveling/soul mate/destiny elements. It feels very ambitious for me to try writing time travel because it hurts my brain to even consume time travel media sometimes 🤣 and I am much more of a pantser than a planner when I write. Then again, the prospect of pulling off this sort of challenge intrigues me. Wish me luck!

Baz lets out a little puff of air that could be a laugh if he wasn’t so tired. His head lolls back and forth in tiny motions against the wall, shaking no with the saddest whisper of a smile.

“Don’t say that.”

I knock my knee against his again. Like he’s a door and this repeated motion might open him up.

“Why not?”

He reopens his eyes but stares at the ceiling instead of me. It makes me freeze in place, afraid I’ll spook the honesty away. His voice comes out smaller than his rapidly disappearing smile.

“Because it’s cruel.”

Also thank yous to everyone else who's tagged me these past weeks! I'm sorry I haven't been super active lately. I've been spending lots of time with family, so I'm progressing slowly on my WIPs

But!! Rest assured I'm still working on them. Here's a snippet from the chapter 3 of The Naked Truth:

Simon’s mouth is hotter than his skin, somehow. It makes me wonder about the rest of his body. His neck is also warm, and tender. I don’t know how my fangs haven’t dropped yet. I can feel them itching to sink into him.  I don’t bite him, though. I won’t. I don’t really want to. I’d never hurt him.  But I do press my fingers against his neck, where his pulse is strongest. Then my hand wanders over the back of his head, where his hair is buzzed short and prickly. Then up—I grab a fistful of his curls. Simon gasps and climbs further on top of me.  I can feel him against me. All of him, from head to toe.  All of him.  I manage to pull my head back enough to look down, just in time to see Simon’s pants turning to mist.

(Little update on the posting schedule: I wanted to have chapter 2 out this week, but I'm a little sick rn so it might not happen.)

Six Sentence Sunday

Hey friends! Long time no post. I feel like time is absolutely slipping away from me recently, but I finally finished a big project I've been working on since last year and I'm both so excited to share it with you soon and also SO glad to just be done so I can focus a bit more on other projects.

Like this one! My fic Apres which I really can't share much about until it's posted. But here's some relatively spoiler free Niamh and Agatha.

I grab some pants from the floor and get them halfway up my legs before realizing they’re Niamh’s. When I turn to face her she’s giving me a quizzical look, and I just keep tugging them up. She raises an eyebrow. “You can have mine. If you like.” “You’re strange,” she says, and it sounds (and feels) more like, “You’re deeply attractive.” Which, well, I know. But she never lets me know it, so I’ll bask in it, thanks very much. I find my own lacy knickers and toss them into her lap. She doesn’t comment as she pulls them on. “Do you wear these all the time? [redacted]? They can’t be comfortable long term,” she grouses, snapping the waistband. “You’d be surprised.”

Hello, hi. I’ve spent… way too much time this week plotting backstory instead of writing so today I’m kicking off WIPs Day with a process post 🥰

From my darkest timeline fic, Blue Lace/Bad Wolf (neither of which will probably become the end title but whatever). So, no Watford truce, Simon cures the Humdrum but the Mage doesn’t die and, in the face of dwindling political power, uses Simon as an… incentive. Yeah, it’s dark.

Anyway! Coven backstory:

Most of the Coven’s actions (including Coven seat petitions) must be proposed through a committee, approved by a two-thirds majority of members, and signed into Record by the Mage. There are a few select actions which must be proposed by a group called the Round Table, but then only need to be approved by a simple majority of all Coven members before being signed into Record.

The Round Table is a group of 25 members, all Old Families. The composition of Round Table members has not changed since the creation of the Coven. And, of course, this is gonna be a Mage-heavy piece so let’s dive into him for a second:

It’s important to know Davy’s petition for a seat on the Coven was almost blocked by the Round Table, except for one member (Wellbelove; he liked Davy’s stance on dark creatures). Even if they weren’t just the Old Families who represent everything he thinks is wrong with the WoM, this was definitely his villain origin story.

And a short Simon POV excerpt:

“I’m sorry.” The word breaks halfway off my tongue the second I realise it's a mistake.

The Mage doesn’t need to say what’s plain on his face. Pathetic.

“How much did you give away?”

I MADE IT. ITS STILL SUNDAY.
