i just find the idea of nealan of queenscove experiencing the fact that Women Are Horny Sometimes so delightful. he would not know what to do with it it does not fit within the constraints of courtly love! the first time he and yuki are kissing and she puts her hand up his shirt hes like woah woah babe what about our honor or something and shes like well im not tortallan but if you need to wait thats fine with me. which is flabbergasting to him. that HE would need to wait. but he is 100% the delicate little princess in that particular relationship

Ok not to be insane but like I’ve been thinking about this a bunch and I’ve come to the conclusion that politically, Jonathan couldn’t have had Kel executed in Lady Knight if they didn’t manage to keep people from finding out she’d committed treason

1. Commoners: ok so Kel disobeyed orders so that she could rescue hundreds of commoner children, a group that historically aren’t normally high on most noble’s lists. The fact that she risked her life and reputation/position in order to bring them back would mean a lot to people. On top of that, she killed the man making and controlling killing machines which were probably killing 100 times as many lower class people as upper class. If she was executed, they’d have maybe revolted, or at least it would sow the seeds of discontent

2. Nobles: he would also have had to execute Neal, Duke Baird’s only remaining son after the others were killed in the Immortal Wars. Executing the heir to a dukedom as well as several other nobles for doing something similar -but with far more selfless intentions- to something Jonathan had done around the same age is a bad look. Plus all the progressive nobles like Alanna and George, Raoul, Miles, probably the rest of the royal family- esp bc Kel and Neal were Raoul and Alanna’s squires - would be very unhappy with that outcome.

3. Mages: duke Baird again, Daine and Numair like Kel a lot

4. The Yamani: on top of Kel being friends with Shinkokami, a yamani princess who’s engaged to the prince, and Neal being engaged or whatever to one of her handmaidens, also a high ranking noble, Kel’s mother saved the sacred swords with her in tow and is the reason there’s even a treaty and marriage between Roald and Shinko. I’m pretty sure the Yamani are very anti treason but I still don’t think it would be such a good idea to execute someone in Kel’s position

Happy Scale Saturday and Asexual Awareness Week!

Here is the first crossover piece that I did between Tamora Pierce's Tortall universe and The Untamed/MDZS. I can see Lan Sizhui and Keladry of Mindelan becoming good friends and visiting the bunnies while Kel's parents represent Tortall as diplomats and meet with Lan Qiren and Lan Xichen. Of course, I also wanted to include Princess Shinkokami.

I grew up on the Tortall books, and was thrilled when Kel was officially declared aspec in canon. Let her celebrate by petting bunnies with her friends.

These figures aren't as small as some others, but here are a few details at 45x magnification

Kel returns to the palace for the winter a couple years after the outbreak of war in Scanra. It's the first time she's been there for an extended period since earning her shield: previous winters she's spent either in refugee camps or at Mindelan.

She continues to practice before dawn each day. On mornings when there isn't too much snow, she's generally in the practice courts, either in glaive training with Princess Shinkokami, her ladies, and the queen; or else practicing staff fighting and archery with Tobe.

It's not long before she has an audience. A few days after her return, she notices two pages watching her and Tobe drill: Elspeth of Ketan, the older of the two current female pages and first girl to try for a shield since Kel, and Niles of Heathercove, the first-year Elspeth sponsers. Kel sets them up with staffs and helps them train.

The next day, they're back, as is Parnell of Theaham, the other female page, and two more boys. By the end of the week, Kel has a floating group of around eight pages that come for training and advice before breakfast.

It’s her status as one of the realm's two lady knights that brought the kids at first. To the girls, she is an inspiration; to the boys, she is something of a novelty. But soon, others are coming to hear about the war in the north, about Blayce and the killing machines. Others come who saw her joust on progress. They pester her for a tilting demonstration and advice until she agrees to a demonstration with Peachblossom after their classes one day. And many of the pages find themselves coming back, even those who had come merely out of curiosity, because after helping younger boys during her own page years and spending the last couple years training refugees, Kel is a skilled teacher.

The conservatives of the court don't like it, of course, but their protests are hard to justify. They can hardly claim that Kel is magicking the pages, or using some kind of divine influence in their favor. And they can't even claim that her work with the female pages is favoritism, not when there are three times as many boys in her regular group.

The current training master also becomes a lot more supportive after receiving a long letter from Lord Wyldon in the north.

In the end, Kel ends up teaching the kids a bit of everything: weapons training, Yamani hand to hand combat, tactics and strategy. One morning Tobe has all the pages show him how they groom, saddle, and ride their horses, coaching them on where they could do better and having a word with the more stubborn or lazy horses. Master Oakbridge asks Kel and Yuki to lead a class on Yamani etiquette ahead of a Yamani delegation's arrival. Kel even gets invited to an evening tactics-and-strategy lecture with the older pages to talk about fighting the killing machines, and how to adapt what you know when faced with something entirely new.

She keeps a particular eye on the girls, of course. When Parnell worries that she's going to stop growing at 5'1", Kel teaches her techniques for dealing with a larger opponent. ("I wasn't always this tall," she notes with a smile, "and in Scanra I fought someone a whole head taller than me. Still, you should talk to the Lioness when you get the chance, I'm sure she has much more experience.") When the boys tell Elspeth that she'll never be able to fight during her monthlies, Kel shares stories of fighting during her monthly bleeding, with the King's Own and as a knight. ("They always seem to come at the worst time," she says. "Even during my exams as a page, once.")  By the end of the winter, Kel has dozens of kids reluctant to see her go, and there are rumors around the court that she might not make such a bad training master, some day.

I’ll be real here, I’ve never requested art before; I don’t really know how best to prompt for it.  I like a lot of different styles, though, so—if you matched on art or want to make art, just, do your style?  I’m sure I’ll like it!  For the visual media, definitely don’t feel pressured to stick to the canonical art style if you don’t want to.  Seriously—digital, traditional, some combination—you do you.

As I, again, don’t really know how to prompt well for art, I haven’t given art prompts even where I’ve requested art.  Don’t feel pressured to try to work any of the proposed scenarios into your art, though if you feel inspired by them that’s great; just give me the characters together, however you think best—that will be enough.

My only podfic-specific comment is that I do generally appreciate not having very sudden volume shifts, especially from quiet to loud, as I like to listen on headphones.  Apart from that, again, go with your style :D

(For the medium/ghost, you don't need to keep it that small; just maybe don't draw too much attention to it and/or make her an older teenager lol).

fandom-specific dnw: predatory manipulation between characters in the relationship in service of the relationship--if, for example, the superheroes/villains are manipulating each other for non-relationship things and such that's okay, but i'd rather both parties in any of the ships be interested in the romance of their own accord.  Additionally—this isn’t in my signup—please don’t have characters react to any gender-disguised characters (or characters in general, but it’s most relevant to them) in transphobic or transphobic-adjacent ways (i.e. none of the characters are requested as trans, but I still wouldn’t want to see the kinds of comments people make about trans people aimed at them).

  Reforester/Dryad—I really like, idk, the vibe I get off this one—it’s got a very nice atmosphere?  I don’t really know how better to say it, I’m sorry.

 Student Mage/Student Warrior; Student Mage/Student Mage—obviously I love identity and disguise shenanigans; it always struck me as tragic when I was younger that there were all these stories about girls disguised as boys, but no one ever seemed to do the reverse?  Hence prompts such as these.  I’d love an identity/gender reveal, or maybe a post-reveal setting; I’d really rather not see them engage in any kind of serious romance without both of their genders being accurately known to the other, though flirting is definitely okay, as would be a date or two.  It’d be fun to go with some variety of mutual pining pre-reveal though, that could make the reveal all the sweeter.

 Runaway Princess/King of Thieves; Sheltered Prince/Roguish Thief—these seem to be mirrors of each other, somewhat at least; how does a royal meet a thief?  Does our princess find herself in the criminal underworld when she runs away?  Does our prince have a burglar appear on his balcony, or does he perhaps meet a girl at a masquerade who’s no noble and instead a thief?

 Medium/Ghost—lots of fun shenanigans you can go into here! What kind of case are they working on? How does a relationship work, when one of you is alive and the other isn’t?

 Supervillain(ess)/Superhero(ine)—love me some superhero identity shenanigans. Do they know each other in their normal lives?  Are their identities secret from each other, or only the world?  How do they first fall for each other—were they friends in their normal lives and enemies in masks?  Is this enemies-to-lovers, friends-to-lovers, or maybe something in-between?  How do they reconcile a romantic relationship with one being a hero and the other a villain?

    Rapunzel’s Tangled Adventure

 Eugene/Stalyan—I will admit that this certainly isn’t my endgame ship for this canon, but I’d really love something pre-canon, when they were engaged or dating—what was their relationship like?  How did they interact with each other and the world?  Maybe a heist fic; that could be fun.  My interpretation from what we get in canon is that their relationship wasn’t necessarily the healthiest (healthy relationships don’t usually lead to one getting left at the altar, after all) but it didn’t seem to me that it was necessarily abusive; I’d appreciate it if it was kept out of the actually abusive zone.

 Remus/Rispah—this is admittedly partly my inner Song of the Lioness fan coming out, but I’d love to see Remus learning more about the Lower Alleys and what goes on there, and conversely bringing Rispah more into his world too.

Happy WIP Wednesay!

This is a quick process gif of a prompt I received from @ober-affen-geil, who asked for Kel and the Gusu Lan bunnies... ‘cause mashups are a thing... even if the venn diagram where fans of The Untamed/MDZS and Tamora Pierce’s Tortall overlap may be very very small.

As you can see, I started with Keladry of Mindelan and Lan Sizhui as children sitting and playing with the bunnies, and then realized that Cricket (Princess Shinkokami) would definitely have been laughing at them behind her fan.  Started with a pencil sketch, inked it with pigma micron pens, and then added watercolor and gouache.

I’m still happily accepting prompts!! ❤️
