Been thinking about Pslam 119:105 lately, after overhearing a conversation after church last week, and how the first half is 'your word is a lamp to my feet.' A lamp at your feet doesn't light up the way ahead, it just lights up your next step.
I'm very much going through a season of just looking at my feet, because that light sure isn't showing me what is ahead or even which way I should go. But God's word will light my way.

Oh I miss your readings so much Feral, they're lovely! If it's okay, can I ask for one? Might there be a deity who is looking for me to pay attention to them, and of so what do they need me to know? Thank you 🧡🌀 - Desoto
ahhh, thank you! i missed giving readings tbh. for you i selected three passages.
1. is there a deity who is looking for you to pay attention to them? Psalm 119: 171-173
171 May my lips proclaim your praise
because you teach me your decrees.
172 May my tongue sing of your word,
for all of your precepts are upright.
173 May your hand be ready to help me,
for I have chosen your commandments
2. who might this deity be? Psalm 63: 1-2
1 A psalm of David. When he was in the wilderness of Judah
2 O God, you are my God,
for whom I have been searching earnestly.
My soul yearns for you
and my body thirsts for you,
like the earth when it is parched,
arid and without water.
3. what do they need you to know? Psalm 119: 93-96
93 Never will I forget your commandments,
for through them you have given me life.
94 I am yours; save me,
for I seek your commandments.
95 The wicked lie in wait to destroy me,
but I continue to ponder your decrees.
96 I have seen that every perfection is limited,
but your precept is unlimited.
hooo boy this one is.... intense. to start, i would very much say there's a deity looking to grab your attention. in this case i get the sense that they're reaching out in response to a cry for help or one of desperation. this particular Psalm (119) is one prayed when life's problems are far from over, but you're hopeful that someone out there is listening. and it would seem that's true. as to who it may be, first and foremost they seems to be a wild god, in the sense that they dwell in the outer reaches. as such they also seem to be a god of outcasts, in every interpretation of the word. the time of day of this Psalm (63) is the very end of night, as dawn breaks. that could be a literal clue as to who it is, but also gives the impression of the end of hardships. it also seems to me that you might already know who this deity is, or at least may have already been thinking it might be them.
as for what they need you to know, we've circled back to Psalm 119. i would be remiss if i didn't point out that the context of this entire Pslam is that it is written from the perspective of someone who loves the sacred law, Torah. i am not well versed in the Torah and probably wouldn't give my thoughts on that particular bit even if i was, as im not Jewish. but i felt i should mention it anyways because it gives a lot of context to these verses. so! this deity wants to convey a sense of structure. maybe actual rules they want you to follow or maybe just to give your spiritual practice more structure or routine. they also want you to listen. they've been trying to convey something to you. whatever that is, they don't seem inclined to share with me, but you may already know what it is. there's an offer of protection, and also a warning to not take everything (including them) at face value.
whew! that was fun. im glad yours was the first one i did because it was very enjoyable, despite the somewhat sombre tone of the content. i hope this is helpful!!

Gifts
// Psalm 119:34 -- Give me understanding, that I may keep your law and observe it with my whole heart.
Psalm 119:88 -- In your steadfast love give me life, that I may keep the testimonies of your mouth.
Galatians 5:1 -- For freedom Christ has set us free...
Romans 6:22 -- But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the fruit you get leads to sanctification and its end, eternal life.
These verses show us that when God gives us something, we are expected to serve him in some way with that gift. In Psalm 119:34, the psalmist is not only pleading for understanding, he realizes that the end goal of getting understanding from the Lord is to serve and obey that Lord further. Christ has set us free, not to do whatever we please, which would mean immediately falling back into sin, but for the freedom of sanctification, the process of Christ making us perfect, which is finally completed when he returns again. Don’t get me wrong, this isn’t an argument for a legalistic, works - based salvation; its simply looking at scripture and seeing that God wants us to honor him with the gifts he grants us.
The inverse is also true.
Psalm 119:71 -- It was good for me that I was afflicted, that I might learn your statutes.
God also intends for our suffering to ultimately honor him as well. When we are “afflicted,” we should remember that “for those who love God, all things work together for good.” We need to ask ourselves, ‘What does God want me to learn from this? What kind of fruit may he be producing in me through these trials?’ It is good for us when bad things happen, and we are expected to praise God, not in spite of those things, but because of those things. //

12th February >> Daily Reflection on Today’s Mass Readings for Roman Catholics on Tuesday of the Fifth Week in Ordinary Time (Genesis 1:20--2:4a, Pslams 8:4-5, 6-7, 8-9 & Mark 7:1-13).
Lectionary: 330
Praying Ordinary Time
Weekly Guide for Daily Prayer
A Mardi Gras Prayer
The Invitation of Lent
The simple prayer of the Psalmist in Psalm 119 is the focus of my reflection today. “Incline my heart, O God, to your decrees.” After taking a course in Ignatian Spirituality here at Creighton, it seems to tie in well with Psalm 8 and its recognition that God has a place of honor for we humans in God’s divine creation. We are given great responsibility to care for the works of God’s hands. We should not take that responsibility lightly or be confused about what it requires of us. According to Ignatius, God gave us rule over the works of God’s hands out of God’s great love for us and for all that God had done in creation. We are so honored because God seeks to form an intimate partnership with us in the care of creation. We can’t effectively take on this great role if our hearts are not in tune with God.
The beauty of Ignatian Spirituality is in its patterns of responses to God’s love for us. But first we must fully acknowledge God’s love deeply in our hearts. When we can do that, we will want to respond with all our hearts. The next thing we must do then, is listen to God to gain insights into how we must work with God. We can’t do that either unless we give our whole hearts to the endeavor. That is not that easy to do.
Ignatius taught his followers spiritual exercises that helped them learn to listen to God by developing a conversational relationship with God in prayer. We can do that by developing a deeply personal relationship with Jesus as a constant companion. When we learn to speak with Jesus and listen to Jesus with our hearts, we can more easily discern what God requires of us. In the spirituality class we read a modern spiritual classic that was useful in learning how to interpret the key perspectives Ignatius developed 500 years ago. Dean Brackley, S.J.’s The Call to Discernment in Troubled Times also helps us better understand Pope Francis’ Laudato Si’. I am not going to write a long summary of Brackley’s book here. Instead, I invite you to read it for yourselves. In the class, I also learned to think of God’s call to us as an invitation to expand our souls. I pray Brackley’s book will expand your soul as it did mine.

Got negativity-driven people pushing against you, no matter what steps you are taking? Good. That means you are doing just enough to get noticed. Good people will notice you, and if you are doing the right thing, they will encourage you. Thank them and pay it forward. Encourage someone else who is doing right. Negative people will notice you, and even if you are doing the right thing, will spew negativity at you. Good. Keep going and PROVE THEM WRONG. But, do you know what hurts even more than the negativity spread by negative people? The good people who see other good people doing the right thing, and never give them an encouraging word. They notice the negative people throwing negativity at good people, and they don’t step in to give an encouraging word. We do it to our neighbors. We do it to strangers. We even do it to our loved ones. As a matter of fact, many of us parents ONLY take the time to reprimand, and rarely take the time to let them know we appreciate them when they do right. And many of us don’t take the time to call mom and dad to give them thanks and to encourage them for all the things they’ve done right. So today, please reach out to someone and encourage them. They may NOT be expecting the encouragement. They may think no one notices how hard they are trying. PROVE THEM WRONG. Call your friends. Call your neighbors. Call your parents. Call your kids. Call someone. Be a positive light in this dark, negativity-driven world we’re in. But wait, there’s more! We cannot fill another person’s tank if our own tank is empty. So take the time to look at yourself in a mirror and encourage yourself today. Listen for God’s voice inside of you. God encourages me to keep doing the right thing every single day, especially when good people don’t seem to notice how hard I am trying. Psalm 32:8 / Pslam 119:105 Talking about GOOD people who encourage you when you are doing the right thing; Thank you @thefeistycolombian for being such a good and encouraging friend, companion, partner, wife and Kingdom Queen. Your daily encouragement keeps me going strong. 🙏🏼 (at Delray Beach, Florida) https://www.instagram.com/p/CQgw0fmD75E/?utm_medium=tumblr

Minute Devotions: Walking in the light.
Minute Devotions: Walking in the light.
Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path – Psalm 119:105 (NRSV)
Have you ever walked in the woods in the dark? You walk slowly, arms outstretched touching the trees for guidance and balance. The danger isn’t what you can feel but what you can’t see; the weeds hidden beneath the leaves, tripping you up as you walk and bringing you to your knees. Life is like a walk in the woods at…

Do Only Good
God is good. Always. The Psalmist declares this and it is true. God is good, “and ready to forgive, and abundant in lovingkindness to all who call upon (Him)” (Psalm 86:5 NLT). “The LORD is good; His lovingkindness is everlasting and His faithfulness to all generations” (Psalm 100:5 NLT). Not only is God good, but He does only good. You may hear someone say otherwise or you may think otherwise at…
