Hey same anon that was talking abt your speech👋

Im not saying its your fault that people pick on you, its definitely not your fault that they're assholes. However you said your tone was the main issue for this and I still think that that is something that's controllable. Again not saying this like it excuses them cuz it doesn't but im saying while adhd isn't something you can control, things like tone can be controlled.

And I wasn't saying all this so that you could accommodate for people, I was coming from the perspective that you could accommodate for yourself. Like this whole situation with the mean classmates, im a firm believer in saying something so they dont feel like they can continue to display their bad behaviors. (Side note: I understand masking is telling you to basically copy these people but the people you're copying are rude so im not blaming you)

But my advice wasn't that you mask. I have a husband who suffers the same as you and he used to mask with me and pretty much everyone in his life. I understand masking isn't ideal and I understand that you guys think about every little social interaction. My advice was to be comfortable with yourself but also look more inward and think that maybe you are rude during those interactions. Obviously I don't follow you around everywhere so idk how these things go. But from what I've seen from my husband is being comfortable with yourself and communicating things thru does wonders for both parties to understand each other and being comfortable with yourself id say limits the masking.

Also I figured id give you an explanation on why I thought you were rude since you were confused. I understand you were self hating in the moment but things that came off as rude and like you resent people were things like your tags when you said "so they should know by now that I cant fucking control it and thats how I talk" (which I totally understand this my husband was a jerk when we met too. The issue socially is probably youre too literal. Its not an easy fix but it is fixable from experience but saying things like "I can't control it" is very limiting towards yourself.) The reason this is rude is bc its rude to you obvi but also in your mind it seems like you kind of subconsciously expect people to just tolerate these things when they are not normal to "normal people" (you can educate me on the correct term btw cuz I honestly hate saying normal ppl I just can't think of what the correct term is called at the moment, im not hating)

You also made assumptions that people immediately get annoyed with you or think you're annoying and there was something you said abt people not feeling the same as you abt certain things you like. 1. Making assumptions abt how people feel abt you is always iffy cuz you just came up with that answer yourself you didn't ask them. It kinda shows how you view people or what you think they think which is most likely not the case. 2. For the not liking similar things, im not sure if these people don't have similar interests with you at all or what but a lot of times in life its not gonna be common to find someone with the same amount of interest in something as you do. Not saying its impossible tho I just wouldn't put that pressure on people. Them being fake however is a different thing but I wouldn't know if they were being fake with you or not. There's a lot of gaps with this because we don't know each other but im not trying to be mean or hateful and im not saying all this like its definite, you could take it or leave it. But I hope there's no hard feelings i just 1. Mainly wasnt okay with how you were talking to yourself but 2. I also did think you were being a bit rude to just people in general cuz ive been there myself. Obviously were different people and im not saying our situations are similar at all but how I took it was that while you hate these things abt yourself, you were also blaming people for things that are (whether we agree or not) in your control. But I could be totally wrong and thats okay.

I hope this didn't come off as rude tho cuz I dont intend for it to be but if it was im sorry. Its not often but sometimes I see things I have the full intention of just being helpful but I end up being the opposite. I do genuinely hope that these issues don't continue to bother you up mentally tho. (Also sorry that these have all been lengthy).

Please enlighten me on how that’s controlable. If you were talking nicely to other people, just trying to engage in conversation and be a good friend, and people constantly said that to you, what would you do? If you’re already consciously trying to sound nice. What else is there to do?

And I was comfortable with myself. My parents stopped saying I have an attitude when I was just talking a long time ago, none of my long term friends have ever made it seem like something that was a huge problem, even my ex understood that I literally just sound like that. But now I’m constantly reevaluating every interaction, trying to figure out if I actually sounded rude or if I just thought I did, or if maybe they reacted a certain way because my tone didn’t match what I was trying to say. And I’m fucking tired. I don’t know what else I should do when I’m already intentionally trying to not sound rude other than just not fucking talk at all lmao which I just realized that I’ve lowkey started doing.

And I am too literal… that’s why I don’t pick up on things like I mentioned in my original post. There’s nothing I can do to train myself to not be literal so I’m not exactly sure how I would fix that. The term is neurotypical and I’m not saying they should tolerate it but when I quite literally apologize and correct my tone immediately after saying something that could be seen as rude, I personally think it’s a dick move to continue to be mean about it rather than just say “thanks for the apology. Good to know.” And I appreciate when people tell me that something I said sounded off because then we can fix the miscommunication and also I don’t want anyone to think I don’t like them because of that one interaction. But after having this conversation (“wtf. You don’t have to be so mean about it.” “I’m sorry, I wasn’t trying to be mean. I meant it like this__.”) so many times, I don’t understand why they would continue to respond like that. Some people have started saying stuff along the lines of “lmao girl that did not sound how you wanted it to” and I apologize again every time.

As for the making assumptions part, clearly you don’t know what it’s like to just be able to tell that someone doesn’t like you lol. I’ve delt with that my whole life (as have most neurodivergent people), I’m rarely wrong about that stuff for myself personally. And I understand that people have different interests… that’s not what I was saying. What I was saying was I don’t like how I’ll get excited about something and start talking about it cause I get riled up and then I realize that I’m talking a lot and that they don’t care. I’m not good at stopping that before it starts and the only reason I put that in the original post is because I literally did it earlier that day lmao.

It did come off as rude and it actually really hurt my feelings. In the future, maybe ask if someone wants help rather than giving unsolicited advice about a situation you barely know anything about. Never in my original post did I ask for advice, I was literally just venting after having a really rough day. And while I appreciate that it was your intention to help, you should just be more thoughtful moving forward.

(Transguy here) Sorry your tags on that post saying "I would have put cis queer men higher on that list" really bothered me because and i disagree bc the post starts out talking about transmasc people who, from my personal expeirnce, are far more likely to expeirnce exclusion from queer spaces over cisgender queer men. So i think its fine that cis queer men was on the bottom of the list.

I just think when talking about ppl being shitty to men in general, the first thing talked about should be trans ppl and your "will someone please think of the cis queer men!" Tag just really got under my skin as a transguy bc ffs no one ever thinks about us and i was happy to see a post featuring transmasc issues. Like, i finally saw a transguy in a tv show yesterday and i literally cried bc we are super under-represented and an afterthought bc everyone focuses on transwomen & their problems and just for once i wish cisgender men, genderqueer or not, would just kindly let trans ppl take the forefront on the gender conversation.

Anyway, thats it, I think im gettin a little tired of genderqueer women/men mansplaining my gender to me in the IRL.

okay idk where you got all of that from my tag tbh?? you're putting words in my mouth, i didn't say anything that resembles "will someone please think about cis queer men", i just said that "cis men can be queer and therefore belong in queer spaces" is an easy way to debunk "cis men don't belong in queer spaces" because it directly contradicts the sentence itself, and therefore it was strange to me that it was only mentioned near the end of the list, and only in passing since it was just the very first part of that point.

I also never said that it should have been the first point, I just said I personally would have put it higher up. for example, I would put it before the point about people who are attracted to cis men and about excluding cis allies. and it's not even a matter of which point is more important, because they're all valid points, I just think that "don't exclude cis queer men from queer spaces" is easier to understand. but yeah I never even said it had to be before the point about transmasc people.

your struggles as a trans guy are real, trans men are underrepresented and often an afterthought and everything else you said. but you're projecting them on my tag that had nothing to do with what you're saying.

also I don't get if that last paragraph was referred to me or just people in general, because I'm neither a "genderqueer woman/man" nor I'm "mansplaining your gender to you" so idk what that part was about.

Stupid little ramble about pete/mikey etc read if you dare

The whole pete mikey summer of like thing has been taken way too far and while this isn't particularly new, i want to just talk about it.

Idk how controversial of a take this is but p/tekey (censor for search) should be kept in fan spaces. I remember when Chris had that insta live where he talked about his friendships with pete and mikey and tbh the chat was actually horrible. Maybe I simply had too high of expectations but I expected more people would've been respectful. So many people just filling the chat asking if pete and mikey were together. I remember Chris talked about how our (fans) idea of how the whole summer of like thing went is different to real life, and basically that the truth would probably be disappointing. And he's right. Our perception of sol is largely based on fan speculation. In truth, we don't really have solid proof. Pete never came out and said "ya me and mikey fucked in 05". Our view of sol is largely based on things like lj posts and them sharing clothes and other stuff.

I keep seeing people taking it all way too far. I rbed some posts about this earlier but ppl who think that a lot of fob songs are about Mikey need to realize that not only are they reducing the meaning of the lyrics to being about mikey, but also mikey is not in fact the only person important to pete. Because yes making silly posts about bang the doldrums is fun (genuinely such a good song can we all collectively acknowledge that) (also its even funnier that it was written for fucking shrek. There is another timeline where bang the doldrums was in shrek) but dude. Saying all of ioh and a bunch of other assorted song are actually about mikey is just untrue. Pete as a songwriter puts a lot of layers and different meanings in his songs, and with ioh specifically, the lyrics reflect some of the struggles pete was dealing with at the time. Others have brang this up as well, but id just like to add that petes songwriting isn't acknowledged for being really amazing and innovative. There are a lot of factors as to why and I've rbed other posts that talk more about this. But i want to say that people further minimizing petes songwriting by simply saying his songs are about mikey are just doing harm, whether or not they mean to or not. Being silly about bang the doldrums is one thing but saying songs like I've got all this ringing in my ears and none on my fingers are about mikey is :| dude (sorry first song that came to mind)

You may be thinking "well you post weird stuff about mikey you have no room to talk" and that's a whole other can of worms but doing things like commenting under pete or mikeys or ppl associated's posts asking about p/tekey or tweeting at them or tagging them or generally attempting to directly ask or bring it up to them. Yeah thats fucked up. Constantly bringing up something that happened 17 years ago to p or m is not gonna make them talk about it. Asking them or publicly speculating about their sexualities isn't gonna make them talk about it either. From what I know, Mikey is not comfortable publicly disclosing his sexuality and frankly it isn't our business. Just in general stuff like shipping etc needs to be kept in fan spaces. I'm not anti p/tekey or anything obviously. I think it is fun. I feel like generally how people characterize the relationship and m and p in general (ex. How they are written in fic) is more based on fan knowledge than real life. Like how ppl characterize mikey as either a sexmaster or shy nerd, but obviously irl I'm sure mikeys personality can't be put in a box like that. It's like the way a lot of fans see band dudes is more like a fictional character than a person. I know that personally, i see a divide between the fan interpretation of mikey (basically the way we as fans characterize him based on the info and speculation we do have) and irl mikey, who we (im guessing) do not know personally. We don't know about his private life.

Basically people go too far and take the whole gay pete mikey thing too seriously and i dont like it. But i am just some rando on the internet so others may see it differently. Idk. Just my thoughts

NOT trying to start anything or attack anyone with this post or make ppl feel bad for characterizing them this way i am just sharing my opinion on this and if you wanna characterize them this way i cant stop you and you should do what you want to yk, the only reason im putting this in the tag is for other people who might agree with me but im not trying to upset anyone with that and if this post does that than please just ignore me and continue doing your thing

that being said i just rly do not understand at all characterizing carulia as either of them being oblivious about each others feelings just because like. just with their dynamic in the show they rly arent ?? like while the show doesnt explicitly mention any romantic feelings the flirting implied in a lot of their interaction is mutual and like with the "arent you a quick study"/"now look whose a quick study" moment it really just feels like they *know* and are flirting back and forth with each other yk they really dont seem to have that oblivious dynamic (and like. cmon unless they specified while doing so tht it was platonic or the person doing so was someone i had completely established that we are friends with no romantic interest with each other if someone gave me A BOUQUET OF RED ROSES id at least be kinda suspicious of whether the reason was romantic feelings and i think most people would be yk)

also just like. i really hate in general how the oblivious characterization is usually done as like "lol theyre dumb for not getting the other has feelings for them" and i just really dont like that even if it is done "affectionately" towards the characters because carmen and julia are both incredible smart and its a big part of both of their characters so i think its a huge disservice to both of them to characterize either of them as dumb or stupid and takes away from both both of them as characters and their dynamic to do so and imo doesnt add anything interesting to theyre dynamic at all like. idk i think their dynamic is good and interesting enough w out adding the idea of them being oblivious about their feelings which imo actually takes a lot away from their dynamic

but also once again this is just my opinion i just wanted to share it bc i dont like the trend in characterizing the ship that way but again not trying to attack anyone and if u disagree than u can do whatever u want

hay, this is more me looking for advice, but how do i stop lying to my followers about being proship? there was one point where i drew fontcest (undretale), and i got an anti who harassed me in ask, and sent me a graphic description of their brother killing their hamster. ever since i've been very weary of saying anything, or confirming i ship something cuz i don't want to read something like that again. that, and in general, i don't ship things too hard/go all in with it, at least 1/?

2/? i don't think i do. granted, i draw a bunch of art and post it, but for me that's just general hyperfixation. i'm also ace, and while yes, most ships are romantic or sexual, mine tend to be platonic, or suggestive. and are not as clear cut as to if i ship the characters or not, because even for me, it's up in the air, and i don't know, i'm not good with knowing how i feel about things, i just express myself through art and hope it says all it needs to. i've come up with a sorta tagging

3/4 tagging system, with tags for platonic ships, joke ships, etc, but even then sometimes how i view the relationship changes. like right now, i'm drawing a child and adult character together, most of the time the dynamic i portray is paternal, but other times i want to make it romantic, either as a cope for my own truama, or just because it's been my brain rot for weeks and i want it out of my head to get back to the "clean stuff" and just not post for a while. idk, maybe this is

Buuut i mean... I can see why youre upset. I dont think you should have to come out and say you're proship. Being an anti shouldn't be seen as the default. You should also be able to make whatever kind of content you want as long as you tag it properly. If your fanbase is making you feel like you can't, then that fanbase isn't your demographic.

There are actually a lot of decent people out here who are pro ship, and if you choose to be openly pro ship, yes you will get some hate mail, death threats, suibait etc and lose followers, but you will also gain a lot of fans who want to see your interesting takes on different interpersonal dynamics. (Also, the former group weren't really your fans in the first place if they'll be so godawful to you over some pixels on a screen)

And yes it is impossible to police thousands of followers and that quite literally is not supposed to be up to you. Minors on the internet are supposed to be monitored by their guardians. If you put a disclaimer/tag for your content and some dumbass clicks it anyway and doesn't like what they see, that's their fault not yours.

I've also noticed that the majority of people who are pro ship are prone to actually filtering content they don't like, while antis seem entitled and want the creator to do it for them. Its just a better fanbase experience all around in my experience.

As someone who helps run multiple pro ship accs, i understand the visibility can be scary. But I promise at the end of the day you'll feel a lot better for it. Hope this is at least semi-helpful/reassuring idk ❤

but yeah re: afab/amab terms being used to create and reinforce the existing gender binary in language that imitates progress...

truly do not think we should use acronyms anymore, as catgirltoes said

but also i think these terms are bad precisely because, superficially, it seems they apply to more than one kind of discussion.

like for example healthcare is an offender because you try telling a guy who had a vaginectomy to get a pap smear because he's afab. using body parts is an obvious alternative

for social stuff, just because you're assigned something at birth doesn't mean you're raised as such, e.g. trans kids whose parents and doctors realize it young enough. and of course the assignment/raising thing is a fraught thing w/ intersex people too but im not intersex so im not gonna go into detail about it. just use raised as a (girl/boy) for (length of time) and for the love of transgender jesus do not make it an acronym

and the biggest thing on tumblr ive seen is for nsfw works, like "x afab reader" is such a huge thing on here that i blocked "afab" just to get the "x reader" shit out. this shit pisses me off because so often they dont even try to pretend its not meant for anyone who isnt a cis woman

and of course the afab-only and amab-only (rarer, but the post im responding to says it happens) event shit is just so.

The new "Email first, password on next screen" layout does not work with Firefox's password manager

I use FF Relay for my email, so I need the email to auto-fill, but it does not

Suggestions

Separate the log-in from the sign-up. Right now they are already two different buttons that lead to the same action.

Put the email and password fields on the same page, and make sure they work with password managers.

Sorry if that example of abuse sounds too cartoony? I have . many examples . from my family . but I didn't want to put specific/graphic details in the tags for OP/other ppl to have to see and/or be triggered by, so I decided to make it vague and gender neutral. For whatever its worth, the whole jealousy -> physical abuse -> apology with flowers sequence Is something that happened, and might come across as cartoony bc our society doesn't take abuse seriously & makes it a frequent punchline

My controversial AI opinion is

that I wasn't against it (and was always interested in machine learning getting better) just as long as its not being used for personal gain / to capitalize off it

Fandom project making a game from 2002 fully voice acted? That's cool! The project was obviously never going to be done officially and it helps more people get into it or just generally breath more life into someone's beloved franchise.

Generate random anime chicks? It'd be nice if it was trained on art that consented but honestly if no money is being made I kinda.... don't personally care. Ppl using free generators aren't gonna pay anyways, and I am a firm believer in one of the internets beauties being the way things are passed around. Also most of these are bust shots only, all kinds of artists like to do challenges where they draw the rest of the outfit

Make a chatbot DM so someone can play dungeons and dragons without a DM? That's dope, and helps people who want to try out character ideas, or people (if you're like me and everyone you know hates being the DM) play the game they otherwise wouldn't.

A chatbot that helps write fantasy stories? I've used these before for writing practice, it's really handy to have something to help when I'm really just at a brick wall.

A meme being dubbed? These are funny as all hell! I want to hear Emminem read text posts and spy from tf2 read memes with his face on it.

This is because mostly these things all help someone, a real person be creative who is still putting creative work and thought in.

I start having issues when things cost money. It can be argued in every one of the ones I've listed prior that "they wouldn't have paid a real person anyways" but the issue now, is people are willing to pay people who own machines, just so they don't have to pay artists.

Because the second you use other people's art for MONEY. You stole it IMO. The moment you train a machine off someone's art and sell that machine's time, you stole.

Running off donations is one thing, requiring funding, running off in app currency 'points', etc, that's stealing.

Am I frustrated with the amount of people who get more attention than actual artists for using machine learning, tagging their posts as things theyre not? Yes, to no end.

Does some people being scummy make it so I think nobody should do anything with machine learning ever? No, I don't think that.

IMO, I've always preferred machine learning to be... bad. I prefer messed up hands and blemish spots and bad checkerboards. I think "ai" is useful for inspiration but should never replace real work.

The fact is, people will be gross money hungry little shitbags. But that doesn't mean if I offered a machine a portfolio of my art and asked it to make something that makes sense, I'd be in the wrong.

I'm tired of the idea that inanimate machines are the one to blame. We need to blame thieves for thieving. Sweet and simple. A computer didn't steal your art. A person did, and he makes money giving server space to people.

if u were in the fandom at around 2019 you'll remember this video. really a grand hallmark of its time. this is probably the most unecessary thing ill ever do but i see alot of recent comments from a month ago agreeing with this and i think thats extremely sad. im mostly doing this as a fun nostalgia trip and also i really want to justify me wasting 14 minutes watching this

first of all i want to say this video is fucking awful. just dreadful. like girl what the fuck are you even saying. i'd only recommend watching in full if you want to hear about the fandom in 2019 with a condesending voice talking down to you the whole time and even then you could probably do better just scrolling through the discourse tag

2:51 | oh wow the "fixing art" thing. i dont think this is a thing anymore but it definitely was a big thing back in 2019! the thing is im quite neutral on it because a lot of artists dont like their work being edited but on the other hand if you dont like when people put the correct skintones on your art then maybe you should colour it right the first time

i will say though if you see cool art of like dark choco or espresso and its whitewashed and u wanna edit it so its not and u keep it to yourself then idc thats fine to me. the grey area is when it comes to characters like moonlight or alchemist, who's skintone is quite difficult to pull off in some artstyles. a lot of the examples in the video use people like cherry blossom or cotton candy who don't quite fit in the same category but are usually targets of this anyway

a very simple fix is to just use a different colour but to not make them significantly lighter from how they look in canon, which alot of the examples you showed don't do. they all look pale as shit compared to what they actually look like ingame and thats why people complained about them

devsisters really love showcasing whitewashed art of their characters (they used to do it on their forums rarely but thats now gone) and recently they've been quite excited to dabble in the whitewashing themselves (keep in mind the others except from twizzly gummy don't really count as whitewashing but they're all significantly lighter than their regular appearance). its like a hobby or sumn. everytime they host a fanart contest i brace for god damn impact. and this has been a thing since FOREVER

speaking of race and ethnicity, lilacs costume (and redesign in general) is just... bad but i dont think they were even introduced at the time of this video. milk and yam WERE though and its extremely baffling to me how this went through an entire team/company and got greenlit. its insane how shit they are (if it was just yam on his own i wouldn't hate him as much, i still wouldn't like him tbh, but they decided to pair him up with a white saviour). would i call them racist though? ...idk? they've been moving funny recently cant lie

another thing is the valentines day video which pisses me off to even think about. in that vid theres alot of.. ships that definitely arent legal. and whitewashing ^_^ they still haven't addressed it btw if ur curious. but it happened this year and honestly i wouldnt blame them for not thinking devsisters would do something like that bc i sure didnt!

anyway the last thing i want to go over is the "cookie run fandom is soo obsessed with debating on whitewashing, ages, gender and sexualities!" thing thats so prevelent with these arguments. 2019 had this fun period where with every new cookie that came out there was some sort of controversy with them (millennial tree and raspberry mousse being he/him, roll cake and sorbet shark being a child or not, ect.)

whitewashing is obvious why so i'll move on. some characters can be seen as lesbian coded (white choco and rose for having majority girl fans, sea fairy in general) and there are a few characters that explicitly aren't referred to by any pronouns (dark choco before the guild adventures, peppermint, ect.) which u dont see everyday in games. so yeah.. people care about these things because they like representation. who would've thought?

now im gonna be fucking real. the arguments over cookies ages were always annoying - the reason why the fandom has arguments about ages so much is because devsis REFUSES to tell us canon ages. think about it, majority of the "canonially confirmed" children in the game are from a child event that happened in LINE. thats a completely different company running the game. because of how character-heavy the game is, ships are a very big part of the fandom. i sincerely doubt theres anyone in the fandom who doesnt like any ship and at the time rarepairs were rly common. so when you've got a fandom who really likes to ship and developers that dont ever mention ages then you get a fucking mess. i dont know what sorbet shark or roll cakes age is and its pointless to even debate it because id rather just have the devs confirm it themselves (not like they ever will). and even for the one singular time they did specify that one of the characters was a child, they still showcased fanart of said kid being shipped with an adult anyway

but that concludes the video and thus this response! i have wasted so much time on this i honestly could've showed you them ranting about how "cookies dont have skin colours" in the video or the part in the marina video where they complain about how people "think whitewashing is bad but make non-black characters black" and moved on but what else would i do on a sunday night?

Sometimes I’ve wondered if the sexualization + hyper feminization of Neil exists because people figure if they write something sexualized about andreil as a duo they could be called gross or fetishizing for sexualizing a gay male CSA victim, so they lean on heteronormative roles to only do that with Neil so they feel less problematic (this is bc of something I found on Twitter that went like ‘objectifying Andrew bad :/ objectifying Neil good ;)’ I just think… you could find a middle ground

whoever that person is on twitter i would like to personally tell them how wrong they are, how does someone go about thinking like that??

(this got long so. i spend most of the time ranting) TLDR: while i think anons suggestion is partly true. the issues surrounding why neils character gets treated this way is a much deeper rooted issue as the evidence suggests and it's a problem that infects all fandom.

anyway, anons idea-

the thing is, even in fics where neil is a csa/sa victim ppl still seem to have little issue making him more feminine and always shove him in the role of the bottom. which is why i think its bs when someone points out how ppl rarely write andreil switching and instead keep the heteronormative top/bottom stereotyped dynamic and then someone defends that by saying ppl are uncomfortable writing an csa/sa victim bottoming. it might be true for some, but when ppl are still insisting neil bottom even when he himself is an csa/sa victim then clearly it goes deeper than discomfort. even when neils history is more extensive or sometimes is even ongoing at time of andreil sleeping together... ppl will go to insane lengths to keep neil as a bottom and i think that says something.

besides, when it comes to ppl being scared of getting called out.. it begs the question: if that's so, then why despite that ppl in this fandom are more frequently called out for making neil hyper feminine and sexualized do the ppl that do this never seem to rlly give a shit for longer than 5 minutes cause this attitude still prevails? these depictions of neil continue? ppl also have no issue sexualizing neils scars... i think it's disgusting really.. people seem to generally feel much more comfortable and unproblematic doing this than they would making andrew bottom or making him more feminine. and it's just... it's insane to me...

even in art where andrew is wearing skirts... they're black and often have chains or belts, andrew still has a apathetic face and still looks intimidating. hes still andrew. neil on the other hand... he's put in pastel coloured skirts and posed to look sexual in nature, and usually given a seductive or bitchy face to match. or he's posed in a cutesy way and is blushing...

if it's fem!art, neil has long hair and more obvious eyelashes. andrew has short hair and more stern looking eyes... if it's not fem!art, andrew has broader shoulders, bigger muscles... a six pack.. where neil has a flat stomach, a small waist, long legs, less broad shoulders and less obvious muscles..

when it comes to this in particular, ppl often say this depiction is due to andrew being a goalkeeper and therefore needing to work on weights more. which is all fine and dandy until you acknowledge that even though kevin and neil are both strikers, kevin is usually drawn much more closer to andrews physique... why? if it's all about the positions, why is this the case? furthermore, ppl usually aruge aaron is buff like andrew cause he's a backliner... NEILS SECONDARY POSITION IS BACKLINER. if people rlly based it all off of exy positions, then neil would be drawn more masculine than kevin. but he's not.

i have no issue with ppl drawing andrew this way, and i love ppl acknowledging that andrew is buff and big but for the love of god.. that doesn't mean neil is fucking fragile and dainty. HES A DUDE. AN ATHLETE. HES GONNA HAVE THE BODY OF ONE. it seems this has honestly turned into just another way to make neil look more feminine...

neils thoughts in the books of "andrew is someone i can lean on and depend on" has somehow turned into "neil likes to be manhandled by big strong hands on small limbs" and i just... i fucking.... i don't even know what to say...

THE MAIN ISSUE. is that there's a culture in fandoms- which are often dominated by women. to put male characters into these dyamics, the top and the bottom, the masculine and the feminine, the dominant and the submissive, the u-🤢 uke and the seme🤢. (i hated myself even as i typed that out). and i doubt this will go away anytime soon, particularly because we do have this idea of letting ppl create/consume and hc what they want- and i do agree!! but i just wish there wasn't such a demand for this type of content.

idk what a middle ground would look like so im not sure if i want that... if that means theres still this type of content but its even for neil and andrew... i don't think i want that. i just wish i could wave a magic wand and eliminate all heteronormativity- which should take the hyper feminization and sexualization along with it. (AND infantilization might i add- someone put this in the tags of my other post and they were so fucking right).

hello anon sorry for the lateness but here we go *deep breath*

sssooo, I had once ranted about it though not mentioning the thing I mentioned in those tags so lemme see if I can find the op and like... cp the main argument and amend it bc it was long, but okay so I found it, original anon asked me: why is Jon considered to be one of the most special characters grrm created? Why is he not the typical hero of fantasy books?, my original answer was here if anyone wants to go there but basically lemme just cp the first part making it shorter and then I'm adding:

first thing, the Typical Post-Tolkien Chosen One With A Shitty Life Before He Finds Out He Is Chosen™ character (I’m saying post-tolkien because every fantasy writer in existence who copies tolkien thinks that lotr went like that and instead it didn’t) usually goes through the following steps: his life sucks up until the beginning of the series, his family generally hates him/her or doesn’t appreciate them or abuses them or anyway doesn’t make their life easier and they’ve never known any different, but *something* never quite worked right and they always knew something was missing in their life, they just didn’t know why. suddenly someone who knows they were Chosen™ shows up and tells them that they’re actually Special because of this this and that and they have a quest to go on to save the world or something. our hero/heroine obviously is finally validated and while their quest is hard and full of hardships and maybe they lose a few friends along the way, finding out that they were Chosen gives their life meaning, they usually find love/friends/everything they didn’t have before until they fulfill the Prophecy™ and live more or less happily ever after, possibly after hooking up with the Person Of Their Dreams with whom they had UST up until the last twenty pages of the book. basically: being Chosen™ in regular fantasy novels is a good thing because suddenly you’re special and all the crap you suffered acquires a new meaning and in the end it made your life better.

jon snow is a complete overhaul of about everything in this sense because

instead of having a family who hates him he has a family who actually mostly loves him, and with ned it’s arguably so much that he risks royal treason by keeping him hidden from his *best friend* - sure, there’s cat and peripherally sansa, but his issues stem from the fact that he feels lesser because he’s a bastard (as far as he knows) and it’s a *class* issue, not a *my family hates me* issue not counting catelyn obv but that's what gives him freudian issues more on that in the emended part later

no one actually knows that he’s Chosen™ - like mel could get there and probably will and someone will put two and two together when his parentage comes out in the open, but he doesn’t have a gandalf or mentor who shows him The Way Towards His Quest

so instead of going from ‘my life sucks but I’m going on a quest which is gonna be a+’ he actively chooses to leave a fairly decent situation (a household he knows, siblings who love him - ned actually hoped he’d become robb’s counselor or right hand man or something from what we can gather) because he feels like he has to prove he’s better than his name and goes to the Crappiest Place In Westeros. like idk if people grasp it, but the wall is basically a prison and at the ripe age of fourteen he decides that it’s totally a good and honorable choice (his only choice actually) to go defend the realm in the freezing cold along with a bunch of criminals/derelicts/rejects of society

at which point he makes friends among said rejects and let’s remember that it’s the point where he actually has to do his first an only privilege when donal noye made him go like hey you were brought up with nobles these ppl are here because they stole bread, and that helps making him more into the person he is rn but like your tyopical fantasy hero who has had a shitty life doesn’t usually have to acknowledge that other people might have had it worse

then he goes on the Quest where he finds his first One True Love, and that’s where it turns even worse because usually the quest is where things start to go right for the Hero™, instead for jon they start to go wronger, because first he has to go undercover which pretty much tests most of his belief/code system, he falls in love with a girl he has to betray, half of his friends and his lord commander die along the way, while he’s off doing his thing winterfell gets taken/burned and robb dies when jon openly stated that he also was going to the wall to defend his family and keep them safe (yeaaah worked out real well), when he goes back to the wall he has to fight the people he lived with for months, the woman he loves dies in his arms and he can’t do anything about it and he’s aware it couldn’t have gone any other way, people put defending the wall on him and then put his loyalty in question, when stannis shows up with a legitimization (which is everything he ever wanted) he refuses because he doesn’t want to accidentally steal his siblings’s inheritance (which was what cat was so worried about hahaha) and actively chooses the crappy defending the realm life all over again. also in all this time his being Chosen™ hasn’t manifested or helped him in any way whatsoever - actually all his honor-moral code related baggage is what moral dilemmas come from that. like, your usual chosen hero™ would always take the right decision and it all turns out good eventually, jon takes the morally right decision and it all turns SOUR eventually

at this point he finally gets elected LC, thanks to his friends also pitching in, which is about the one fantasy hero™ thing that’s happened for now. should be good, yes?

lol no, because he ends up with THAT hellish responsibility at sixteen, since he thinks that he has absolutely to be even better than that now and he has very specific notions about how you should lead and he knows he has to take unpopular decisions/decisions that he doesn’t necessarily like, he ends up either having to send his friends away forreal (sam) or detaching from them (pyp/grenn/the likes) and when as far as he knows he learns that his sister is married to ramsay he can’t do anything about it

never mind that it’s the same situation as when he had to pick the watch or robb in book one - he went there to defend his family and now being there actually prevents him from helping them in person. ops. meanwhile he’s trying to implement a new vision of things which is modern and smart and actually makes sense because why fighting the wildlings when you have ZOMBIES coming. your usual Chosen One™ would get people to approve just because he’s the Chosen One

instead jon gets stabbed to death - okay, that was also because he wanted to go get arya but it was the last straw, people were pissed over the wildlings plan first and foremost

so basically he’s gone through all the Chosen One™ steps but in reverse - he loses his family which did love him instead of finding another one that makes the first pale in comparison, he does find a new one who loves him but has to alienate most of its members for responsibility reasons as a consequence of what should have been the crowning achievement of his life choices (which eventually is NOT one), he falls in love and they don’t drag the UST forever but they never get a chance to be together without small print in between, he chooses the admittedly most masochistic life he could for his family as well and half of them die and he can’t do a thing for the other half, every other mentor-like figure he runs into after ned dies, instead of finding validation he ends up having to isolate himself and on top of everything HE STILL DOESN’T FUCKING KNOW HE’S THE CHOSEN ONE™

so instead of his life going better the more he learns stuff and matures as a person, he gets murdered. by the people he trusts and who were supposed to be his new family. haha?

never mind that when he finds out he’s the Chosen One™ it won’t bring him closure because all he ever wanted was being full stark like his father/siblings and then bam he’s going to find out his father’s actually targaryen and what does that even mean to him?

on top of that being AA will just be a pain because I don’t believe for a second he’s not going to get leftover ptsd and who the hell is gonna help him deal with it? or how is he ever getting over his *brothers* murdering him? and people are going to ask stuff of him all over again and he’s gonna have to go slay a mythical monster and if I know grrm it’s not gonna be fun, pretty or cathartic FOR HIM

on top of that, Chosen Hero™ fulfills the prophecy and gets a realm to rule and everyone lives happily ever after. money is that if jon does get that realm (and I think he is because he has the best claim if he's legitimate and most likely it'll turn out he was on the targ side but ROBB also legitimized him so he has double the legitimization), he’s going to hate every second of it and he’ll take it because a) duty, b) literally no one else is available, and like this guy didn’t want to rule a realm or be a king or anything he just wanted to be a stark, and instead he’s going to have to after all that shit thanks to Magical And Noble Heritage he hadn’t even known he had and probably didn’t even want up to that point because since when jon wanted to be a targ? yeah since never

obviously I hope he manages to be somewhat happy regardless because the alternative is too miserable, but basically being a Chosen Hero™ is what makes jon’s life worse rather than better and the fact that hew went through all the regular self-discovery journey for the fantasy hero list doesn’t mean he’s not flipping that over in his sl. the fact that he stayed a decent person more or less throughout it and that he hasn’t turned into a bitter asshole also doesn’t change the main point XD

tldr: jon snow is not a typical fantasy hero because he deconstructs that trope into tiny little bits same as robb deconstructed the arthurian flawless king hero trope

okay so... there is a certain tendency to also make the chosen one™ special in the sense that he's kind of goals - good looking, rich or set to inherit, gallant, takes the initiative, he's like.. social or anyway immediately makes friends etc and all that jazz which jon... doesn't really fit

like jon is an introvert who immediately makes friends just with outcasts and his siblings also bc he feels like one but he's hardly a social butterfly and charms everyone wherever he walks by

I mean ffs says all that the only person he charmed in that sense is stannis who is the literal only person in charge in the books who is more introvert than him and has worse communication issues and appreciates ppl going straight to the point

on top of that in the book he looks like ned.... and arya looks like ned and ned isn't described as being particularly handsome that was brandon so he's not even like... I mean kit h. is v. pretty and I think he was a good choice for the role and I'll die on the hill that he was born to play that character and he did it well but book!jon doesn't have that kinda pretty face so the concept that he's the HOT alternative to anyone to me is kind of iffy bc he's not

he's shit at social interactions and at PR which is why robb and him would have been a key winning ticket like he has a better idea of the larger picture but robb would have actually made sure ppl didn't turn against them bc he actually was good at that but like he doesn't go around rallying armies in his name does he

the one time he's been with a girl it was ygritte and like he courted her without realizing it and then she had to pursue him and he barely knew wtf to do on top of the fact that they slept with ghost in the middle of them like a sword which..... is.... I mean sleeping with the sword in the middle was a thing to make sure the maiden stayed a maiden and he's the one who is like i CAN'T HAVE SEX WITH HER EVEN IF I WANT TO BECAUSE I'M TECHNICALLY SPYING ON THEM like... he's not... gallant-knight coded

never mind that the moment they do the do she basically does everything until he decides to try the oral which I mean... isn't exactly alphadominatingmale out of jon which is not a given with the trope he's supposed to represent like he's not smooth he's not suave he's like WHAT THE FUCK when ygritte tells him he has a pretty face bc most likely no one else told him that and he like... doesn't pursue people like that in general which is also not exactly 100% what that trope usually goes for

we can add that he has a lot of passive-aggressive little shit sarcasm in him that they didn't let him go for in the show but like... usually chosen heroes™ don't think what he thinks about selyse in general

we can also add that he's not automatically above being better than his position like... he doesn't take winterfell bc ygritte is dead but he did think he'd have taken the deal sansa or not if stannis had said he could marry her and not val and if she wasn't dead, he basically went off the rails at the dude he was fighting with thinking about robb telling him that he couldn't be lord of wf because he was a bastard and he's absolutely not in the frame of mind of 'well I was born a bastard who cares it doesn't define me'

he's obsessed to the point of unhealthy with actually being defined by it which is why he was better off with the wildlings aka the only idiots in the realm who don't gaf about that

and that's like... I mean usually if chosen ones™ have parental issues it's like 'you were an orphan and raised by asses who weren't your parents but your parents loved you and you'll find out at some point and you'll be happier for it and make your own family', jon is like... he has the mommy freudian issues of the century bc of how cat treated him, on the other side he's obsessed with living up to ned's/his father's name and he hates that it makes him not-belonging or that he feels like he doesn't even if he does with his siblings, and at the same time when the truth about it comes out he's going to get the cold shower of the century bc like - he's spent all that time thinking BUT DID MY MOTHER WANT ME WHO WAS MY MOTHER and he's going to find out of who it was and how he was born and honestly considering that lyanna most likely did regret running with rhaegar the moment he finds that out and that she died birthing him how is he going to feel? - also he spends his life wanting to live up to his 'father's' name aka ned aka someone known to be honorable to a fault and then it turns out his bio father is... the dude who started that entire rebellion not doing a very honorable thing? - also if jon*erys is a thing idt that he'd take 'I fell in love with my aunt' so nonchalantly as he did in the show tldr: he's never gonna get over his parental issues in a short time and when that particular brick hits him in the face it won't be pretty

like the entire point of jon is that he goes through all the chosenone™ cursus honorum as we'd call it in high school when studying latin but each step that means smth good for the usual chosenone™ to him is something bad, being one is not going to make his life better and throughout the entire thing he does not fit that stereotype when it comes to look, personality, basic traits and familial history and like hell he's going to have the happy ending tied up with the bow - like I think he gets a bittersweet one and eventually goes off with the wildlings bc he belongs there after being jon snow first of his name (bc like hell he's not reclaiming his bastard background at the end of this entire mess I'm eating my hat if he doesn't) after splitting the seven realms and fixing things but that's hardly the neat happy ending the chosenone™ usually gets so that's my two cents
