Fanfiction Recommendation
Summary: Hua Xiangyi stood still for a moment, her hands tightly clutching onto her handkerchief as her eyes remained fixed on Qi Zhuyin. There were all kinds of different people in the marketplace such as old and young adults, children that ran around filling the air with their laughter or couples clinging to one another. But to her, Qi Zhuyin was the one that stood out the most, illuminating the whole place in a vast variety of colors, as if there had never been any space for anyone else in her eyes to begin with.

WIP Wednesday
A snippet from the next chapter of You Are Of Their Ilk, continuing on from the last bit I posted a while back where Lan Qiren is finally confronting Qingheng-jun about the elders and stuff.
-/-
“Were you intending on informing me, then, that you have seen fit to complicate the inheritance of the heirs I have provided?”
Lan Qiren blinks a little at the nonsequitur, but this is far from a new argument. There were many in those first months of Wei Ying’s living in Cloud Recesses who thought Lan Qiren planned to supplant his nephews as Heirs with the presence of his ‘own’ child. A ridiculous notion that he had very swiftly disabused the Sect of through both word and action, but an unsurprising conclusion for his brother to have come to after likely receiving the old news fresh from one of the elders he’d spoken with.
“It did not seem pertinent, when you were so unmoved and uncaring of your own sons’ births years ago. Why should I bother you for the introduction of one young orphan into the Sect, whose inheritance will be nothing save the education every other non-clan disciple receives?”
A muscle jumps in Lan Qihua’s jaw as he raises his cup to his lips to take a sip of his tea; Lan Qiren can’t help but feel that quite without his knowing it the conversation has become something like a sparring session, and he just landed a blow.
“What does it matter to you what I said to the elders when they came at my call? They retreated into seclusion, did they not? Your way is clear, you may do with the Sect as you wish.”
Lan Qiren tamps down another flash of irritation, hot and tight in his chest.
“None of this is what I wish,” he says in a fit of soul-weary honesty. “But I will do what I can to pass the Sect into better hands than mine, and hopefully leave it in a better state than you did for me. If you will not tell me what you said to the elders then I have nothing further to do here.”
Lan Qihua glares at him coldly enough that Lan Qiren’s feels the chill of it down his spine as if it were a curse, sure that later when he undresses to bathe he’ll find a mark on him somewhere, physical evidence of his brother’s hatred clinging to his skin. He stays silent, though, and so after a heavy pause Lan Qiren simply gets to his feet and turns to go without a proper farewell.
“Fengyi was right about you,” he says when he pauses at the door, hand resting carefully on the freshly-cut timber. He traces a fingertip along a whorl in the wood as his mind wanders to his Sworn Brother. His…partner, who had tried to tell him the truth of what he would find in an attempt to save him from continuing to be haunted by the ghost of the brother he’d really never had. “You’re nothing more than a shell of a man. If this is the greatest strength of the Lan Sect then it is no longer any wonder that those who once supported you discovered their cause is hopeless upon seeing what you’ve become. If I were to ever think to rely on you again in this life I would despair as well.”
Lan Qiren steps out of the house as porcelain shatters against the door beside him, razor sharp shards of what had moments ago been a teacup clattering harmlessly to the ground behind him as he steps out into the sunlight his brother has shunned to meditate on his own endless misery.

how would Angelo feel about Qihua?
she's very friendly, and just a tad bit clingy. she likes to sit on Wukong and Daiyu's shoulders and groom their hair.
Angelo is a monkey, originating from Italy, he does know how to speak English but Chinese is too far for his reach. He knows a few words, such as nihao, shi, yù and others but it's very limited.
so, unless Qihua knows how to speak English, he has no way to communicate with her. Unless even more! We bring up monkey language, which i imagine being an universal language between monkeys, the only thing that changes is a few words. Like in English (British-american, Australian-british, ect.)
But he feels pretty good about her, grooming is a good form of bonding so he wouldn't mind, he would actually appreciate.
He wouldn't mind the clinginess too, he just likes running around a lot because it's a new place, but also, you're new to him

the ONLY pairing i know named qihua is qi heng/hua wuxie which im 99.9999% sure ur not talking about so please elaborate 👀
i meant qi zhuyin and hua xiangyi!! they’re a side couple in qjj and idk how to talk about them without spoiling everything bc it takes so long for them to actually interact but they’re like. ur being married off as a pawn in ur family’s schemes except ur betrothed has a heart attack immediately upon seeing u bc ur too beautiful (top 5 iconic qjj moments) and his daughter’s really pretty and a skilled general (and also ur age) and she thinks ur brilliant and is willing to help u push ur own agenda. they’re just sooo <3333 they don’t get a lot of page time but they’re really important to the plot like, part of the mc’s scheme literally would’ve crumbled if it weren’t for some lesbian romance. which sounds like a joke but isn’t. i shan’t elaborate tho bc my agenda is to get everyone to read qjj :3

To promote and extol the cultural values and spirit of honesty, integrity, hard work, courage in pioneering, and devotion to one’s roots encapsulated in “Qiaopi,” and to significantly enhance the influence and appeal of overseas Chinese culture, a press conference was held on April 24 in Shenzhen to announce the “Qiaopi: Journey of Ten Thousand Miles” tour. This event was guided by the China Overseas Chinese Federation and the Guangdong Overseas Chinese Federation, organized by the Publicity Department of the Zhuhai Municipal Committee and the Zhuhai Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese, and executed by the Zhuhai Performing Arts Group.

“Qiaopi,” a key cultural project of Guangdong province and Zhuhai’s first original national opera, is produced under the guidance of the Guangdong Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism. It features a distinguished creative team including composer Meng Weidong, playwright Wang Yong, directors Liao Xianghong and Deng Yijiang, and conductors Zhu Man and Fan Jie, with performances by leading domestic artists such as singers Lü Wei, Li Yang, Li Bufan, and Dong Bin. Set against the backdrop of Tangjiawan in Zhuhai, the opera delves into the unique “Qiaopi” culture of the Lingnan region, weaving a profound historical narrative on stage that tells of the overseas Chinese renowned for their reliability and commitment.
Since its premiere at the 2nd Zhuhai Arts Festival in October 2022, the opera “Qiaopi” has been staged in cities such as Beijing, Chongqing, Macau, Hangzhou, Urumqi, Guangzhou, and Zhongshan, eliciting deep emotional responses from audiences. It has been selected for the National Culture and Tourism Ministry’s 2022–2023 “Chinese National Opera Heritage and Development Project” and has received various national and provincial awards, including the Outstanding Opera Award at the 5th China Opera Festival and the First Prize at the 15th Guangdong Arts Festival. The opera has also featured on significant cultural platforms such as the “Outstanding Stage Art Works Exhibition of the New Era” and Macau’s “Spring of Haojiang.”
At the press conference, Min Yuntong outlined the touring schedule, noting that from April 24 to May 15, the opera will visit key diaspora cities such as Shenzhen, Shantou, Xiamen, Ningbo, and Dongguan. Associated activities, tailored to each location, will include a concert version of “Qiaopi” at Ningbo University and visits to the Shantou Overseas Chinese Museum and Ningbo Commerce Museum, aimed at enhancing the cultural impact and resonance of overseas Chinese heritage.
Zou Jianhong, General Manager of Zhuhai Performing Arts Group, elaborated on the preparations for the tour and the opera’s creative process. The creative team, after extensive research and multiple revisions, has focused on authentically representing the protagonists’ inner worlds. With each performance, they carefully consider audience and expert feedback to refine the opera, aiming to create a lasting and influential work. I have read Qiang Jin Jiu and honestly think I'll never recover
(Spoilers ahead!)
Oh god, where to start this? Maybe I should start with the very begging: I didn't understood shit. I just saw a kid being tortured and lots of information. When I felt it was too much, I went after the translated map and OMG that was so helpful! Bless the translators for that. After looking carefully at the map, things started to make sense.
As the story went, before the end of book one I was not very familiar with all the characters. I kept mistaking Hai Liangyi for Hua Siqian lol. But during my reading I started to take some notes and was never confused again. The thing is, this book has A LOT of characters and some of them are introduced early but only become major players later (Yao Wenyu, Hua Xiangyi...)
Even though this huge ensemble would make characters easy to forget, this doesn't happen. The author managed to create likeable and rememberable characters pretty easily??? I fell in love with many of them at first read, even if they didn't show up a lot. And there were characters that got me completely off guard, I wasn't expecting them to be so cool and relevant, BUT THEY WERE (Fei Sheng, Kong Liu)! And the antagonists were also brilliant, I love a good story where everyone has a point and no one is actually evil: People from Biansha had their truths and in a war there are no right sides, Xue Xiuzhuo wanted the best for Dazhou (even though I can't forgive what the did to my baby Yuanzhuo), and Li Jianting??? WHAT A LEGEND! Also, Feng Quan plot twist left me speechless, what an interesting character. Every character was very human (in the good and bad way), everyone had their own goals and beliefs. I actually might do a second post screaming about every character because I have a lot to say about them. (hello hasen my love)
The Plot??? Perfectly done. AND WELL EXPLAINED! I was always a little afraid of reading novels with a lot of politics, but I really dug this one. The problems with grains, provisions, registry, army and BRO THERE WAS EVEN SOME AGRARIAN REFORM SHIT
The way this author write the MOST well written battles I have read, without using any magic... it's just... I never thought I would be so enthusiastic about cannons, rocks and GRAINS.
The conflicts in Zhongbo could be all repetitive, but they weren't at all. Each prefecture that Lanzhou took back had a interesting story.
The war with Biansha was also brilliantly written. The way Amu'er was attacking Dazhou from the inside out and the scorpions with those hammers??? My man was a genius. Sadly, he could never have predicted Bai Cha and her son.
Talking about that, the family relationships are a great point in this. Seeing flashbacks about Lanzhou, Ji Mu, Ji Gang and Hua Pinging made me CRY! They were so happy... And seeing Xiao Chiye with his brother and HIS DAD LIKE... Xiao Fangxu and Ji Gang best daddies. Fei Sheng and Yin Chang too, what a beautiful chapter the one that they talk after Fei Sheng has a fight with Qiao Tianya.
Talking about Qiao Tianya, it was refreshing to see a novel with more LGBT characters. The secondary pairings were great, they didn't steal the spotlight from cezhou, but were very enjoyable (even though THAT happened between Songyu). I just wished we could have seen more Qihua moments and OH GOD KONG LIU AND LUO MU??? That got me truly off guard, wasn't expecting at all. Also, I found really interesting how Lanzhou basically got a LGBT parade following him at the end, that was truly the gayest empire ever. I have so many headcanons here, let me scream them: Xue Xiuzhuo is AroAce, Li Jianting is a non-binary legend and Huo Lingyun a Bi King. Also, Fei Sheng is not straight. Said it.
The little animals in this??? I WAS TERRIFIED WHEN LANG TAO XUE JIN FELL IN THAT HOLE YALL I THOUGHT HE WAS GONNA DIE. But luckily he didn't. Meng, Hunu, Feng Shuang Ta Yi were all the cutest, I need more novels with cats.
THE CHILDREN - Ding Tao, Li Xiong, Xiao Xun and Jiran. They served chaos, humor and cuteness. I really liked whenever they showed up.
THE LADIESSS - If you have read my other posts you know I love some powerful women. This story did not disappoint me in that sense. Hua Hewei had some despicable acts, but she really got everyone on her hands despite never leaving the inner palace, good for her. Hua Xiangyi is a way better version of her aunt, my girl was smart and cared for the people, an amazing woman. QI ZHUYINNN owns my life, I really adored the fact that she was a badass and that she never hated the fact she was born a girl, slay. Bai Cha was really out there helping women that were sold and their children, that is some real sorority there. Lu Yizhi was so kind, loved seeing her interactions with Lanzhou. Li Jianting was everything, her story was one of the saddest and yet she was doing her best to become a ruler. Duo Er'lan was amazingly brave, even more than Hasen, mad respect for her.
And last, but definitely not least, there is cezhou. I have no words to explain how much I adored these two. The way both of them got their own development and had their own private goals and went after them, so good. They are so well written that I wanna scream. The chapters that are focused on Lanzhou's feelings are not big in number, even when he is the main character, his feelings are shown in discreet ways (the handkerchief!) and most of the time we don't know what he is plotting or thinking. But when we take a peek at what's going inside of his heart, it's... astonishing. And I love seeing how he actually cared for the side characters, even though he doesn't show a lot.
And Ce'an kind of caught me off guard, I thought he was going to be a totally different character but he went and delivered
Xiao Chiye was a perfect fit for Lanzhou and Lanzhou was a perfect fit for Xiao Chiye: they were both in similar situations where only them could understand each other's suffering, and after they leave Qudu we see how much of a match made in heaven they are (not just romantically, but strategically).
THE SEXUAL TENSION AT THE BEGINNING YALL... They were scheming/fighting and flirting at the same time. Iconic.
Read this, you won't regret it!
By the way, I started reading the story in December and finished by March, but I completely forgot to post this! College has been frying my brain these days.
Hopefully I will resume my Sha Po Lang reading and come back here to tell my opinions on the book. (Not sure when though.)
See ya!

OC ; HUA QIHUA 花期华
12.19.2023
Thinking alot about my chrysanthemum oc. yes. you heard that right, hes quite literally a flower! His name is Hua Qihua :D (Had the nickname Xiaoxue or Xiaobai because of his white hair!) Hua Qihua is a chrysanthemum that was exposed to too much yin energy and was stained by alot of human blood during his few days in bloom as a flower. Because of this, he gained a human form after absorbing their dna. Hua Qihua, despite being "human" now, would wither within a few days if he didnt gain enough nutrients to prevent his erosion.
Even with enough nutrients, he would still die every other week and come back to life. Much like a western phoenix.
Because of this, he began to secretly work under a apothecary using the guise of a personal secretary who would go on leaves every few days. With this, he basically experimented on himself in order to extend his lifespans. Eventually, he was successful.
He managed to life up to four years (haha) before withering again. But it was not as painful as it was and he eventually got used to this repeated cycle. Some of the methods he used would be to surround himself in yang centered areas, which is why he moved to a suburb village.
The village was located in a very rural peakside so it was full of abundant Yang and medicinal herbs. This is where he settled down and opened his own apothecary. He lives to age 48 as of now!
