List 5 topics you could talk about for an hour without preparing any material.

With Malice Toward None: a Musical of Abraham Lincoln and the Civil War. I’ve been developing this musical since summer 2020. With Malice Toward None focuses on exploring the mental health struggles that Lincoln experienced during his presidency. The musical is narrated by Robert Todd Lincoln, who recalls the storyline’s events with complete omniscience while at the 1922 Lincoln Memorial dedication. Relevant themes for the show include mental health, public history, teams that become brotherhoods, compassion, the stages of grief, leadership, and a bunch of other concepts that I’ll probably end up yapping about on here at some point. Orchestrally, the show can be described as “if Les Misérables, Hello Dolly, and Evita decided to have a threesome in my brain”.

all of my original characters. seriously. I have SO MANY OF THEM that I’ve developed over the years, mostly for historical fiction. 😭 the ones that are living rent free in my head the most right now are Anastasia Andrews-Ismay (the human personification of the Titanic), Lieutenant General Ethan Clay, and Dr. Constance Pierpont Morgan. the rms titanic. literally EVERYTHING about this ship and her sinking is my Roman Empire. I’m particularly fond of yapping about Captain Smith, Thomas Andrews, Wallace Hartley, William Pirrie, J.P. Morgan, or any of the officers — but if you get me talking about the vilification of Bruce Ismay by the sensationalist yellow press in the aftermath of the sinking, then I WILL NEVER SHUT UP.

star wars. my first exposure to the Star Wars franchise was when I was a sophomore in high school and I got to see a screening of A New Hope where the soundtrack was played by a live orchestra. suffice to say, this altered my brain chemistry and I’ve never been the same since. I’m a Prequels girlie and Jedi apologist to my CORE; my favorite characters are probably Yoda, Dooku, Mace Windu, and Bail Organa.

film and tv soundtracks. …the fact that I once did a TWENTY FIVE MINUTE LONG presentation on the film score for Titanic (1997) should tell you everything that you need to know about this silly fixation of mine.

currently reading: I gave in a few weeks ago and started rereading A Dangerous Fortune by Ken Follett. But I also picked up The Hellbound Heart by Clive Barker this weekend for funsies cuz I’m kinda on a Hellraiser kick... again.

Top 5 things you haven’t done yet but would love to do (like a bucket list I guess?? 😂)

Oh oh what a question!! Some of these were easy to come up with, there’s a lot I want to do with my life and I’ve got a lot of time ahead of me so!

1. Travel! There are some specific places I’d like to go to, including Ireland, Belgium, and Austria. Ireland and Belgium because I know I have family documents available to find in both places (Belgium especially because I still have family living there!!), and Austria just because I really want to go to Austria—the dream is to see the Spanish Riding School and then go to the Musikverein and see the Vienna Philharmonic. I once had a friend tell me I belonged in Vienna, which is probably also part of why I want to go, but as an equestrian and musician there is just. a lot I want to see there! Plus also travel is just cool in general. Other places I’d like to go include Scotland, Lithuania, and Israel, both for travel and family purposes. Amsterdam and Copenhagen are also on the list but I may have the chance to go to both while at university, so fingers crossed!!

2. Finish my novel. Does this count? I think it counts. I have so many little thoughts in my head but getting them down on the paper is hard! I’ve got my discord server for it though, really pleased folks are interested in it, and that helps keep me motivated. In eighth grade my advanced learning program teacher gave me the “Most Likely to Become a Published Author” award, which surprised me, but now I’m hoping she was right. Mostly I just like screaming about my characters to the world.

3. I have this…slightly odd goal to learn all the languages my ancestors spoke? Like, within what’s still possible to learn. I’m currently studying Yiddish, German, Gàidhlig, Hebrew, Italian, and French. Languages I’ve started studying previously but are sort of “on pause” are Russian, Irish, Dutch, and Latin. I want to add Romanian, Lithuanian, Latvian, Swedish, Norwegian, Danish, Finnish, and Flemish (specifically the dialects spoken in my family) to the list!

4. This one’s kind of simple, but I’d like to learn how to rope a steer! My mom knows how, and my family still keeps cattle, but I’ve always wanted to learn how to properly throw a lasso. Since this one’s simpler, I’ll also add in that I’d like to learn to drive with a (horse) trailer the way my mom can. There’s a lot of cool stuff my mom can do, including weld. Don’t know how I ended up with such a cool mom.

5. Okay this one was hard to pick but. It’s between getting my PhD and…eating a macaron. I cannot eat macarons because they use almond flour and I would like to remain alive. Conversely, I really want to get that doctorate. Hopefully I’ll do both!
